My criteria:
this list is ONLY pre-2000 films, and ONLY the Walt Disney Animation Studios line-up. So no Pixar, sequels, A Goofy Movie, Nightmare Before Christmas, etc
this is a list of Disney animated films that I now love EQUALLY as much (if not MORE so) as I did as a child. Basically, these are the films that I give the most passionate "commentary" for when watching with loved ones lmao (lots of "LOOK AT THAT SHOT LOOK AT THAT ANIMATION" and "MY BABIES" etc etc)
Y'all don't understand. Disney is embedded in my mind, heart, and soul, and ranking them is a herculean task because I LOVE SO MANY OF THEM YOU HAVE NO IDEA 😭😭😭 The vast majority of them fall into this nebulous middle region with me clutching them and crying DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE and constantly changing my mind on their rankings.
Case in point, the Top 3 are basically a three-way-tie lmao
Here are my honorable mentions that I seriously considered adding to the poll:
Hercules (1997): PLEASE DON'T @ ME, THIS HURT MORE THAN YOU KNOW 😭😭😭 It was this or The Lion King.... ultimately I chose TLK because it low-key feels wrong NOT to lmao, but also because while Hercules is a fun romp, TLK is a Cinematic Masterpiece that STILL makes me cry. That said, Hercules's songs motherfucking SLAP and Hercules/Megara are in my Top 10 Fave Disney Couples list for good reason.
Oliver & Company (1988): This one is a bit of wild card cuz I don't generally give it a knee-jerk "top 10" reaction. BUT GODS, I LOVE IT SO MUCH AND IT IS SO UNDERRATED KHBBJGHMBJJHK 😭😭😭
The Three Caballeros (1945): This is an absolute madhouse and I unironically adore every second of it lmao. My siblings and I would always quote it and act out scenes. It is as near and dear to my heart as any other title in the poll.
Alice in Wonderland (1951): To date, my fave adaptation of one of my fave books. It's solidly in my Top 15 Disney films of ALL TIME, regardless of date release.
Fantasia 2000 (1999/2000): This one toes the line due to the release date, but like COME ON. Epic flying whales?? Rhapsody in Blue??? FIREBIRD SUITE???? Idk what purists are talking about when they act like it's not good; it's fucking ART. The ONLY reason why it's not on the "same level" as the original Fantasia for me is cuz the OG is embedded in my brain lol

What goes on during movie night ?
Ooh okay so movie night:
It's just absurdly hard to decide what to watch. Movies are brutal for the family. No one likes the same things, but they somehow always have fun? They have to institute a family decision making process, and this is how it goes:
It's in order of age. Jake (1), Neytiri (2), Spider (3), Neteyam (4), Kiri (5), Lo'ak (6), and Tuk (7). (Mo'at is 8 when she is around, and when she is she somehow always wins).
Whenever a decision needs to be made, Jake has Neteyam have Siri (Jake does not understand how to use Siri) pick a number between 1 and 7 and whoever's number it lands on makes the decision. This ruling is absolutely final, and the only rules are that parents can overrule for safety and that the same number can't be picked back to back.
Neytiri wins a suspicious amount of time. It's simply Eywa's will. When Neytiri wins they watch a lot of documentaries and classic rom coms. Jake always complains the loudest to annoy her, but then him and Neyetam are on the ground on the floor up close fascinated by the horror of US prison system or by the absurdity of 27 Dresses.
Jake, in contrast, almost never wins. When he does it's always the worst comedy ever but like, the most fun night. It's Grown Ups 2 or The Naked Gun, and Neytiri is trying so hard not to laugh in the corner while covering Tuk's ears and glaring at Lo'ak when he laughs at the jokes.
Lo'ak only wants to watch terrible action movies. This is everyone's favorite night lowkey. No one would ever admit it, but the movies are such a brain break, and they love how much they can annoy Lo'ak during them. They're all munching on popcorn and lounging on the couch absolutely destroying the logistics of The Fast and The Furious.
Neteyam, through a mouthful of popcorn: How would one car cushion the fall of another car?
Spider, throwing m&ms into Kiri's mouth: Oh, it wouldn't, that's a double car pancake.
Lo'ak: IT'S JUST A MOVIE, MY GOD.
Jake, intercepting an m&m: As long as you don't think you can drive off of a helicopter, son.
Kiri: well, you could, right, you just wouldn't live.
Lo'ak: PLEASE.
Tuk wins and they watch a classic Disney/Pixar film. No one pretends to hate these nights. Everyone loves Encanto and Moana. Jake is a huge Olaf fan. Spider and Lo'ak's remote-microphone renditions of every song in Camp Rock are legendary. Everyone has joined in at some point, by the end of the movie the family are all exhausted and sweaty and the amount of blackmail on Jake's phone is wild.
Neteyam's picks are always extremely snobby Oscar level A24 films. Tuk always falls asleep. Lo'ak and Jake play games on their phones and miss things and then ask stupid questions and it drives Neteyam insane. He's never angrier than when Jake asks the dumbest question ever that was answered earlier during the peak moment of Three Billboards.
Kiri's picks are super pretty nature documentaries. These nights are instant nap time for Jake, Lo'ak, and Tuk, piled on top of each other on the couch. Spider, Kiri, Neytiri and Neteyam share a carton of ice cream right in front of the tv and marvel at the pretty animals. One time when they are all older teenagers, Lo'ak and Spider decide to take edibles before this endeavor and Jake catches them so they give him one as a bribe and the three of them cry when a lion kills a zebra. It is very obvious but also very funny to everyone else. Also Jake ratted them out to Neytiri right away but said "Babe, they included me! ☺️" so Neytiri let it happen.
Spider's picks are crazy. He's all over the place. For a long time post his adoption, when they were little, he picks whatever movie the person he's felt he most recently pissed off he thinks would like best. Lo'ak discovers this quickly and begins to start a fight with him right before movie night lol. Neytiri and Jake were very suspicious when Spider was like "no I actually want to watch Jackass and it's not because you grounded me yesterday, Jake." Eventually he does pick his own stuff (he likes Homeward Bound and Cheaper by the Dozen) but sometimes he does still pick what his siblings want.

round up // JUNE 24
This post is late 'cause I'm a writer, Though Austin Butler's cute in The Bikeriders, Who didn’t have time for post creation Before my big summer vacation. And it marks the 12th year Of this little blog now. With a 283rd post, I’ve know I got it down. Too bad anxiety don't do it for ya, John Wayne, he dream came trued it for ya, Bad Boys rebooted up for ya. Now I’m singin' Sabrina all night, oh, Is it that sweet? I guess so. Type it up, down, left, right, oh, Switch it up like Nintendo. Crowd vs. Critic, I know That's that me espresso
June Crowd-Pleasers
1. Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)
The fourth Bad Boys is functioning on three levels:
It reminds us just how fun buddy cop comedies can be.
It’s a soft reboot of the franchise.
It’s testing the waters for Will Smith’s future.
Read my full review for ZekeFilm. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 7/10
youtube
2. “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter (2024)
It may be technically too early to call the race for Song of the Summer, but it’s going to take a major earworm to dethrone Sabrina Carpenter’s caffeinated pop hit for me. I’ve started playing it on repeat and daydreaming dance routines while driving—is it that sweet? I guess so.
3. Inside Out 2 (2024)
This sequel works because t’s a logical next step for Riley’s growth, but also because of its precision in identifying the competing emotions of middle school. That’s a lovely subversion of the neat endings in most family entertainment, and like most every Pixar entry, it did make me cry. Read my full review for ZekeFilm. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 8.5/10
4. Anxious People by Fredrik Backman (2019)
The narrator—a cousin of Arrested Development's—informs us this is a story about a bank robbery gone wrong. It’s also a story about realtors, falling in love, rabbits, therapy sessions, bedroom closets, police work, bridges, and strange coincidences. It’s a laugh-out-loud ensemble (with some scenes so non sequitur I could imagine them in the best Adam McKay movies) and a sentimental rom-com (with some scenes reminiscent of Nora Ephron’s tone).
5. Behind Enemy Lines (2001)
This action movie based on a true story more than lives up to its title. When Owen Wilson’s cocky Navy pilot gets caught, yes, behind enemy lines, he then, yes, has to go through a Top Gun-inspired arc. But neither Wilson nor Gene Hackman are phoning in what could’ve been a paint-by-numbers war film, which makes it both thrilling and poignant. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 7.5/10
MORE JUNE CROWD-PLEASERS // House Rules by Myquillyn Smith (2023) isn’t the restricting guide the title suggests but a collection of 100 decorating inspirations // Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006) and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013) make me miss Adam McKay’s true comedy days, when his political views made his jokes more poignant instead of overwhelming the intent of his script // Poms (2019) is a fun entry in the recent trend of Older Screen Lady Legends Doing It For Themselves subgenre (See also: 80 for Brady) // I.S.S. (2023) is more thoughtful than a junkie space thriller needs to be // In the Land of Saint and Sinners (2023) is a classic Western that just happens to be set in Ireland // Snack Shack (2024) is more crass than I prefer, but what works has American Graffiti vibes
June Critic Picks
1. The Bikeriders (2024)
It’s like Austin Butler overheard Robert Redford say, “Paul Newman and I are the handsomest white men who have ever been on screen,” and he said, “Hold my comb.” Butler knows he’s beautiful, and so does writer/director Jeff Nichols, who based The Bikeriders on a book of photography. Nichols also knows how cool guys in leather jackets look while smoking and riding motorcycles (even if we consciously know all of those things are dangerous clichés) and that it takes someone as gorgeous as Butler to make us believe a skeptical woman like Jodie Comer’s Kathy would sell her soul to have him. It’s one of best films of the year so far, and you can hear more thoughts in my review on KTRS's Carney Show. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 9.5/10
2. Double Feature - ‘40s Rom-Coms With With Political Twists: Without Reservations (1946) + State of the Union (1948)
In Frank Capra’s State of the Union (Crowd: 7.5/10 // Critic: 8.5/10), Spencer Tracy is considering running for President of the United States with the help of lover Angela Lansbury and to the chagrin of wife Katharine Hepburn. In Mervyn LeRoy’s Without Reservations (8/10 // 8.5/10), famous author Claudette Colbert is road-tripping incognito (much like she did in It Happened One Night) after falling hard for returning soldier John Wayne. In both romances, politics are the force driving apart the couples we’re rooting for, and in Reservations, you also get a perfect rom-com BFF in Don DeFore.
3. The Cross of Lorraine (1943)
About the same time Casablanca came out, Peter Lorre played a supporting role in another World War II adventure filmed as people were escaping the Nazis in real life. This French POW drama (also co-starring Gene Kelly) walked so that Steve McQueen could jump that motorcycle in The Great Escape. Crowd: 7.5/10 // Critic: 8/10
4. Broadcast News (1987)
What’s a girl to do when she has no time to write a valedictorian speech? And what’s a girl to do when she has to choose between two terrible love interests while working in the world of TV journalism? In ep. 140 of SO IT’S A SHOW?, Kayla and I are digging into the ‘80s romantic dramedy Broadcast News and trying to figure out what the hey it has to do with Rory’s graduation in Gilmore Girls. Why is Lorelai comparing Rory to Holly Hunter? What ethical controversy (if you can even call it that) could make Holly Hunter break up with a dreamy news anchor? And how much do we love The Incredibles? Listen in for a special report on all of these stories.
5. Fancy Dance (2023)
Part mystery, part character drama, all Lily Gladstone star power. Fancy Dance overlaps in plot and theme with Killers of the Flower Moon, but Gladstone has created a completely different character stuck in a world of crime and custody battles. Watch my full review on KMOV. Crowd: 7/10 // Critic: 8.5/10
Also in June…
I reviewed Janet Planet for ZekeFilm, which was the opposite of Snack Shack: On paper it's a film I should've loved, but I didn't care for the execution.

Get to know us!
Hey everybody! IJustLiveHere and I decided it might be kinda nice to share some info about us, so we can all be a little more personal with each other. We each made a little list of stuff we thought might be kinda fun to share :D
ImagineThat 🦜:
21 years old, pronouns she/her
Lives in the USA
Loves to sing, and enjoys pretty much all genres of music (from the Oh Hellos to the All-American Rejects, from cinematic instrumental to rap :D)
I’m an ENFJ and an Enneagram 9. My top love languages are Quality Time and Words of Affirmation.
Likes: Chocolate, coffee, sunshine, animals (especially cats and birds!), talking with people, having long, complex conversations, encouraging others, drawing (mostly digital art), all types of food (Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Greek, Halal, Indian, American, Mexican…. It goes on and on), Christmas (THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR), sharing my interests with other people, and watching movies (All the movies, all the movie quotes, lets goooo.)
Dislikes: Sweet potatoes, most types of squash, mushrooms, disrespect towards others (HUGE pet peeve, especially when it’s directed towards parents or elders), bugs (unless in a documentary), rudeness, hypocrites, cold temperatures, unnecessary/over-the-top gore or crass language (unless I’m writing Bakugo or a character for which swearing is normal for them), horror films (they give me nightmares. I like a good psychological thriller, though) being ignored or otherwise deemed unimportant *sad face*, upsetting others.
Fav Fandoms: My Hero Academia, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Stranger Things, How to Train Your Dragon (films), Lord of the Rings (films and books), Owl House, Avatar the Last Airbender, Star Trek TNG and DS9, Disney (especially pixar, but like the older movies cause the most recent ones are sorta meh), Marvel (not as much any more, gotta admit, although Guardians of the Galaxy 3 SLAPPED) and Hermitcraft
Other fun stuff: I have a fairly big family, two dogs, and I’ve moved seven times in my life. I’ve traveled to nearly every US state and several other countries. I know how to passibly juggle, was once on a swim team (my record for breath holding about 4-5 years ago was 2 minutes!), and I rode horses for a while. My personal mission statement for life is to fight cynicism and negative views, always try to be open-minded and wise, and to always keep improving myself.
IJustLiveHere 🍓:
20, she/they
Based in the USA
I’m a theater person, and love both acting and working behind the scenes. (Like ImagineThat, I also appreciate all music genres)
INFP and Enneagram type 2. My top love languages are Physical Touch and Quality Time, although I appreciate all of them in my own way
Likes: Video games, dnd (playing and streams), sweet things, watermelon (my favorite fruit -despite what my sona may tell you- and I can eat entire melons in one sitting), snow, pretty much all animals, baking, platonic displays of affection, getting clear directions about something, talking about things I love, and listening to people rant about things they’re passionate about
Dislikes: Horror films (I’m really squeamish unless it’s animated or drawn, and spook super easily), pork and things that sneak food dye into it (allergic and makes me sick), the sun (also makes me sick), hot temperatures (haha makes me sick too), making on the spot decisions, and watching things that give me second-hand embarrassment
Fav Fandoms - Anime/Manga: One Piece, My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Haikyuu, Dr. Stone, Fire Force, Hunter X Hunter, Chainsaw Man, Dorohedoro, Assasination Classroom, Mob Psycho 100, Hell’s Paradise, Kaiju no.8… (a whole lot more but the list would be waaaayyy too long if I added them all. Name it and I most likely will be into it)
Fav Fandoms - Cartoons/Shows: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (but I like the other iterations too), Lego Monkie Kid, Avatar the last Airbender, OG Teen Titans, Marvel (more of a casual fan), Dimension 20 (most definitely not a casual fan… it’s a problem), Critical Role, and Firefly
Other Fun Stuff: Ok some fun facts about me. [1] I tend to get injured in weird ways. For instance: I once cut myself on the round orange part of a pumpkin, and I've accidentally cut myself on a box cutter… by falling onto it face first. (She also somehow managed to stab herself in the hand with a knife while cutting a bagel, then drop the knife on her foot blade-first -ImagineThat). [2] I also rode horses! It was very fun. Unfortunately I had to stop when COVID rolled around 🙁. [3] My favorite number is 13, mostly because I just think it’s neat but also I was 13 years old when I moved out of my home state. [4] I love to bake, but I honestly know nothing about cooking lol. [5] I am a dice gremlin and have more dnd dice sets than any one person probably should, and the same goes for earrings! I love funky dangly earrings and probably have somewhere in the hundreds of pairs. [6] I want to go to Ren Fair or a Cosplay Convention one day but I don’t have the stylish outfits to do so *sigh*. [7] I honestly had never heard of Hermitcraft or Empires until I started beta-ing for Imagine. I’m hooked on those silly little guys now and even though I don’t actually watch the streams Imagine keeps me updated on everything that goes on with them (which I look forward to hearing every time)

The Best Films of 2015
Originally posted January 5th, 2016
All of these films are genuinely excellent.
This past year was a great year for film, and more so than most, it was a year wherein the best films were critical as well as commercial successes. Without further ado, let's delve into my top films of 2015.
6. "Inside Out"
"Sadness. They came to help because of Sadness."
With "Inside Out," Pixar proved themselves capable of turning anything into emotionally resonant characters, and their story of a young girl's personified emotions helping her come to terms with a cross-country move is one of their finest films to date. Amy Poehler's turn as Joy is particularly compelling, as Joy travels through the depths of Riley's mind with Sadness in an attempt to return to the control room, where all of Riley's emotions reside. What would just be an ordinary children's adventure film is made greater when Pixar caps it off with a message for children and parents alike: it's okay to be sad, and you need to embrace that sadness in order to experience true happiness.
5. "Creed"
"One step, one punch, one round at a time."
To say that the original Rocky is timeless is simultaneously cliché and obvious, and as such, a modernization was hardly necessary. But "Creed," like its namesake character, wants to prove itself on its own merits, and it does so by using every tool at its disposal to capture the spirit of the original while telling a brand new story on its own. Ryan Coogler brings us into the boxing ring like was not possible in the original, and he leads Michael B. Jordan into the greatest performance of his career yet as the fiery Adonis Creed. What's more, Coogler encodes the history of the franchise into the story to give it the weight that would not have been present otherwise, leaving us with a film that uses its legacy to blaze a path into the future.
4. "Anomalisa"
"Did you change? Did I? Did something?"
In this stop-motion animated film, the surrealist director Charlie Kaufman takes a step back and brings us a simple, down-to-earth story about a man whose history of mental illness prevents him from forming meaningful connections with the world around him. Kaufman revels in the mundane here, and even when he teases at the possibility of using animation to take us on a surreal adventure, he quickly returns to reality and posits that this type of surreal fantasy is one of the many things that prevents people from truly connecting with one another.
3. "Spotlight"
"If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to abuse one too."
Tom McCarthy's dramatization of the Boston Globe's investigation of the Catholic Church's epidemic of child molestation is an excellent entry the oft-forgotten genre of journalism films, and like its predecessors, it revels in the slow, meticulous, and rewarding grind toward a completed story. In addition, its depiction of the survivors subtly reveals the long-term consequences of this childhood abuse, and McCarthy also shows us how the small compromises made by many people led to the invisibility of this epidemic, compromises that the Boston Globe itself is not innocent of. It is rare indeed to see a film concerned with this type of real-life heroism show such a moral failing on its heroes' parts, and its inclusion makes Spotlight a compelling story about imperfect people trying to do good for the world.
2. "Mad Max: Fury Road"
"We are not things! Our sons will not be warlords."
Before "Mad Max: Fury Road" was released, it had all of the qualifications to become an incredible success; it was franchise reboot helmed by the director of the original franchise, and that director, George Miller, made clear that he would be using practical effects for the majority of the film's mayhem. That alone would set it apart from the rest of the summer blockbuster crowd, but Miller took it a step further by turning a film about death cars in the desert into a feminist manifesto and critique of toxic masculinity. "Fury Road" soars thanks to this subtext, and the picture Miller paints of a colorful dystopia wherein a disabled woman rescues sex slaves from their patriarchal captor is the most unique of the year.
1. "The Hateful Eight"
"You only need to hang mean bastards, but mean bastards you need to hang."
"The Hateful Eight," Quentin Tarantino's eighth film, is the least "Tarantino-esque" film he's ever directed, and after setting aside most of his grindhouse and pulp influences, he weaves a near three-hour long tale devoted to exploring the complexity of human immorality. The film's titular "eight" are among the most despicable characters put to screen, all brought to life by a stellar cast, with Samuel L. Jackson's Major Warren and Jennifer Jason Leigh's Daisy Domergue being particularly exceptional. Tarantino puts these characters through the grinder as they're trapped by a blizzard, and he slowly reveals just what makes each of these characters revolting, culminating in a sanguine baptism that marks the characters for their sins, rather than washing them away.
Honorable Mentions
1. "Straight Outta Compton"
"Fuck the police, they have the authority to kill a minority.”
F. Gary Gray's biopic deserves mention here not because it is one of the best films of the year, but because of its necessity. "Straight Outta Compton" allows us to look back at our recent history and see the influence of N.W.A. on the popular culture of the last two decades. And even though it loses thematic consistency in the second and third acts, the mythic greatness with which it presents N.W.A.'s tour and their legendary Detroit concert is genuinely breathtaking.
2. "Hamilton"
"Who lives? Who dies? Who tells your story?”
This is technically a Broadway musical, and I have technically only listened to the soundtrack and seen no more than the clips scattered across the internet. Those facts are only technicalities, however, as "Hamilton," in overcoming the limitations of the theatre stage, is an incredibly visual musical, with the songs "Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)," "Say No to This," and "The World Was Wide Enough" using descriptive imagery to sell their scenes as effectively as a master cinematographer (if not more so). It also has one of the most gripping stories I have ever encountered, and while it's not the only story to ever have me invested in complex fiscal issues, it's certainly the one that's gotten me the most excited about it.
#inside out#creed#anomalisa#spotlight#mad max fury road#fury road#the hateful eight#straight outta compton#hamilton#okay so#i think most of what i say in this list holds up#i don't think that all my picks do though#inside out was fine at the time#but pixar fatigue is a motherfucker and i am real tired of the shtick they dove headfirst into with inside out#the hateful eight would probably not top my list?#though honestly i am not sure how well that one holds up any longer#need to rewatch it#hamilton is the most cringe inclusion here for sure though#this was right at the start of my hamilton phase#and it is easily the most cringe phase i ever went through#last thought#i think it is very neat that i included straight outta compton as an honorable mention#entirely for the excellent detroit concert scene#that movie does not hold up at all for a wide variety of reasons#but that sequence is phenomenal

The Prince of Egypt (1998)
When Jeffrey Katzenberg left Disney in 1994 to form DreamWorks with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen, it was essentially seen as a declaration of war against his former compatriots in the company. The first volleys in that war, however, would not come until 4 years later in 1998 with Antz and The Prince of Egypt. Both were bold statements, the former a CGI comedy directly designed to compete with Disney's new comrades at Pixar, the latter a big-budget traditionally animated musical taking aim at the prestige and box office returns of the Disney Renaissance that Katzenberg had helped shepherd at Feature Animation. Both made a strong impression at the time, and while Antz is somewhat forgotten today (especially thanks to the increasing controversy of Woody Allen as a filmmaker/performer and public figure), The Prince of Egypt has held on as a genuine classic. Does it deserve to be? Absolutely.
The plot is certainly familiar in its outlines to anyone who ever attended Sunday school. Hebrew slave Yocheved (the late singer Ofra Haza, absolutely haunting in only a few sung lines) places her baby Moses (Val Kilmer) in a basket and sets him down the River Nile in Egypt to rescue him from a purge commanded by Pharaoh Seti (Patrick Stewart). Moses eventually drifts towards the palace and is adopted by the Queen (Helen Mirren) and raised in the palace alongside his brother Ramses (Ralph Fiennes). They grow up as troublemakers, much to the consternation of Seti and the high priests Hotep and Huy (Steve Martin and Martin Short). When Moses helps free a captured Midian woman, Tzipporah (Michelle Pfeiffer), he learns a shocking revelation from the slaves Miriam and Aaron (Sandra Bullock and Jeff Goldblum): he is their brother. Disturbed by this and the full reality of the purge, he accidentally kills a slave-driver in a struggle, then leaves Egypt. After reuniting with Tzipporah in Midian, he begins to make a new life for himself. One day, when trying to retrieve a sheep, he comes across the fabled burning bush and speaks to God, learning that his task is to free His people from the Egyptians. But it will not be easy, God warns, and you DEFINITELY know the holy ass-kicking coming up next if you've read your Scripture.
First things first: this is in the top 5 of the most beautiful animated features ever made, regardless of country or studio. This is as grand, no, grander than many live-action films in the scope of its vast settings-deserts, palaces, chariot races, plagues of frogs and fire, the Red Sea-yet the tiniest gesture from its characters can have just as much impact. Spielberg brought much of the staff and talent from his short-lived Amblimation studio in London to work on this, and the talent is well in evidence. Animators like Rodolphe Guenoden, William Salazar, and Kristof Serrand give stellar, realistic renderings that avoid much of the scenery-chewing instincts of Western animation. (Katzenberg did some poaching of his own, bringing in James Baxter to do some truly stellar scenes of Moses' acting that anticipate his great realism on films like Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron) The CGI is used brilliantly too, even if, like Hunchback, the crowds look a little obvious nowadays if you look too closely. I also want to shout out the direction by Brenda Chapman (another Disney vet), Simon Wells, and Steve Hickner. They guide the story brilliantly in terms of shot choices, such as in a famous scene where Moses goes on his journey across the desert and becomes smaller and smaller in the frame.
Like Hunchback, this is a story that demands a certain seriousness, and it avoids the pitfalls of that film by eschewing goofy sidekicks for more natural character-based comedy amidst all the sturm and drang. Even Hotep and Huy, while they get some funny moments, undergo a darker, hypocritical turn when their power is threatened. While there are changes made to the Biblical story (addressed upfront in my favorite "please don't kill us" disclaimer of all time), they all pretty much work for the story this tries to tell. Moses is reframed as a man desperately in need of a purpose, and God certainly gives him one, but also someone who truly loves his adopted brother and wishes things didn't have to be this way. Ramses, too, is seen with remarkable complexity as a figure who adores Moses, but is simultaneously all too aware of and completely blind to the privileges he holds, which costs him everything. The supporting cast gets some nice moments too; I especially like Tzipporah's subtle shift as she grows to love Moses, even if she never loses her spirit.
(A quick word on the voice cast before we get into the aural end. You would probably not cast the film the way they did today, with predominantly white or non-Jewish actors as Hebrews and Egyptians, and I think that's certainly worth considering even if visually, the characters obviously look much closer than previous Biblical films using very white casts. The main observation I will put forth is that the film WAS shepherded by two of the most powerful Jewish men in Hollywood, Spielberg and Katzenberg. And given that the story was important enough for them to consult an army of religious experts from various cultures to get things like clothing and traditions correct, they presumably could have gotten any cast they wanted. They ultimately landed on this one, and I think that was their right. I do not object to anyone who feels differently, especially as a non-Jewish white guy myself.)
In terms of the soundtrack, Stephen Schwartz possibly outdoes his collaborations on Hunchback with the songs here, aided by an equally great score and arrangements by Hans Zimmer. "Deliver Us" is a powerful opening number that visualizes the plight of the slaves with heartbreaking cruelty. And as said, Haza's vocals cast a spell that will hang over the entire film. "All I Ever Wanted" is the shortest, probably weakest song in the film, but I like how it plays almost as an inversion of the typical "I Want" song in terms of Moses trying to convince himself that this is what he actually wants. "Through Heaven's Eyes" boasts a robust performance from Broadway vet Brian Stokes Mitchell as Tzipporah's father Jethro that is genuinely uplifting in the new spirituality offered to Moses. (Mitchell is so good, in fact, that I wondered why they even brought in Danny Glover for the character's few spoken lines, even if those are well-delivered). "Playing With The Big Boys" is easily the most sinister I've ever heard Steve Martin and MARTIN SHORT, of all people, sound, though I suppose it helps when you back them up with badass chanting. "The Plagues" too is ominous and rumbling, with a heartbreaking counterpoint duet between Moses and Ramses right in the middle. And "When You Believe" genuinely soars as the newly freed slaves embrace life.
The voice cast is star-heavy, as mentioned, but all are well-chosen rather than distracting, and it certainly doesn't sound like anyone's phoning it in to my ears. In particular, I think this is one of the best performances of Val Kilmer's career, equal to his Doc Holliday in Tombstone, as he goes to the mat emotionally in scene after scene. (He also plays God, doing a wonderful job of making him seem mysterious, unknowable, and sympathetic all at once). Fiennes is his match, tragic and vile in equal measure, though perhaps his cruelest delivery is his most offhanded, a casual "Slaves" when Moses observes their father murdered children. (This echoes Stewart, who goes from sternly warm patriarchy to a truly chilling moment where he tries to comfort Moses by saying "They were only slaves", much to his adopted son's horror). Bullock doesn't get a ton of screentime, but she paints an effective portrait of a woman trying to hold onto hope and faith because that's all she has left. Goldblum gets some proper Goldblum-y comic relief moments as Aaron, but also a crucial cynical beat where he questions why Moses cares so much about them now. And as said, I really like how Pfeiffer gives Tzipporah a lived-in toughness rather than seeming fake (she also gets a priceless reaction when she helps save Moses from a well).
I come to this film from a number of different angles: as an animation fan first, and as someone for whom it was a fixture in a mixed secular-Christian household growing up. I grew away from God as time went on, but stories like this can still take hold in my imagination because of the pictures they paint. There is a genuine sense of wonder here, beautiful and terrible by turns, and I feel it every time I watch. The faith that a true miracle is occurring.

My Top 5 Worst Movies of 2022
What's going on everyone, it's Dan here and today I'll be going over my Top 5 worst movies of 2022. I didn't want to go with easy one's like secrets of Dumbledore or Jurassic world: Dominion, I wanted to dig deeper and find movies that slipped under the radar or people haven't heard much about and review those.
I've said it twice and I'll say it again, these are my opinions and all of this is subjective. You may agree or disagree with me and that's fine. With that said, lets begin
Number 5 is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever from Marvel/Disney (6/10)
Right off the bat, I'm making a lot of enemies with putting this movie at number 5. Now keep in mind, this movie had to be rewritten due to the passing of Chadwick Boseman so what we got wasn't the original vision but rather salvaging what they could. I already gave my complicated feelings on a review for it last month and while I gave it a 6/10, I personally did not like this movie. It's okay for what we ended up getting, but I still felt they could have pushed this back and taken more time with it rather than salvaging what they could to make a movie. The first half almost put me to sleep and the second half is where it started picking up the slack. The end credit scene was nice but unlike the old post credit scenes from previous Marvel movies before Endgame, it won't lead to the next film but rather give us a hint at what's to come. Who knows when that plan or if it will ever happen. Overall, I'm glad they gave homage to the late Chadwick Boseman, but as a movie itself, its nothing too special. Shuri is a great Black Panther and I loved her personal journey, but other than that the movie is just lackluster.
Number 4 goes to Lightyear from Pixar/Disney (5.5/10)
Now this was a movie that had plenty of potential to be a great movie based on a beloved character from Toy Story, but it was a mess to infinity and beyond anything I could have imagined. The tone is off, its different from the happy go star commander were all use to seeing. Here it's a more serious and dark tone where Buzz normally gives off this upbeat and somewhat campy space ranger tone like with Duck Dodgers or the Jetsons or even Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, I was hoping that's what this movie would be like. The tone just doesn't fit, in fact this doesn't seem like a Buzz Lightyear movie. It feels more like a generic space commander movie with Buzz slapped on it for marketing. I also wanna address the "controversial" same sex kiss scene...it was a literal peck, not like they full on frenched each other so I don't see how that could have ruined the movie. The movie suffered due to its time travel plot being ridiculous and its tone being more serious than it should have. Feels like this was meant to be a sci-fi horror film rather than a Disney film with a Toy Story character. I admire that they're trying something new, but this is not the way to go about it. Plus the twist with Zurg? Like why? As I said, this movie had potential, but it was just not steered in the proper direction and it suffered for not staying faithful to the character of Buzz Lightyear.
Number 3 will be going to THE....MOVIE OF ALL TIME! Morbius from Marvel/Sony (5/10)
It's Morbin' Time! I know I complained about Lightyears plot but at least that had a plot. The plot for this movie was near nonexistent! This movie is something else, Jared Leto once again showing that superhero movies are not his best attribute less we remember his....memorable role as the Joker from Suicide Squad (2016) and the Snyder Cut of Justice League (he did way better there than in Suicide Squad). I already gave my thoughts on the movie back in April and while I did give it a 5/10 initially, I feel that the score needs to be brought down to like a 4 or a 3.5 because this movie is just a complete MEME! So much so that Sony saw the meme attention it was getting and had the Megamind idea to rerelease the film again thinking it would do better this time around....but it actually flopped AGAIN! This is the first film to have a box office flop twice! That is an accomplishment in it of itself! While I don't think its a great superhero movie, it's definitely a so bad its good superhero movie, to me this is more of a guilty pleasure movie that you just watch to have a good laugh with some mindless action thrown in. This definitely holds a special place in my catalog of memorable movies and superhero movies, This is a rare distinction on this list so Morbius I tip my hat to you for being everyones....movie of all time!
Number 2 goes to the direct to streaming Halloween movie Hocus Pocus 2 from Disney/Disney Plus (3/10)
Now this is one of those movies I felt did not need to happen, but since it's Halloween it's time to see what beloved Halloween classics need to be given a sequel for next generation. A sequel that adds nothing but just trying to be hip and with it. I tried to avoid watching this movie but I just couldn't get away from it. My sisters house, My job, even my own house I was doomed to watch and finish this movie. I watched it on several occasions to finish and it was worse than I thought. First off, the original Hocus Pocus was dark, there is no denying that these witches were unapologetically evil draining the youth from children (killing them in the process), turning kids into cats, bringing back the dead and trying to kill more children. The opening even shows them witches being hung, they even showed that in this sequel. Speaking of the sequel, it's just generic Halloween kids movie with the Hocus Pocus named slapped on. This movie tries to give us backstory on the Sanderson sisters which I'll admit is nice but it also tries to make them more sympathetic and seem like they're the real victims. I understand they grew up in Salem during a time when Women had no say in anything and witch hunts happened on the daily, but it doesn't work when we've established that they're ruthless in the original. But here, they act like grandma's where technology is foreign to them and they've become sillier rather than major threats and how in the end, they rest in peace thanks to the power of friendship. It doesn't make any sense, especially when they were destroyed in the previous film, they get brought back again from a candle almost thirty years later? It doesn't make sense and it just seems lazy. I don't think they needed to be made sympathetic, they should have been just as ruthless and threatening as they were in the original movie. I enjoy villain's who are unapologetically evil just as much as I enjoy the one's you can sympathize with. They should have been kept Unapologetically evil from the start. Also the main heroes (if you can call them that even though they brought back the Sanderson sisters to begin with) are generic as can be, I don't remember any of their names. The only part I enjoyed from this movie was when Mary Sanderson used Roombas as broom sticks to fly, that actually got a laugh out of me and that Hannah Waddingham makes a hot witch lady ngl. Other than that, this movie had no reason to exist. It was nice seeing the OG actresses reprise their roles, but this was still shameless nostalgic bait to gain more subscribers for Disney Plus.
After all I said, I'm sure you're asking yourself "what could possibly be worse than Hocus Pocus 2?! I thought for sure this would be the worst movie!" but you be wrong my friends, the worst movie of 2022 is....
Number 1 goes to The Munsters (2022) from Rob Zombie (1/10)
With everything I've said about these films, I can at least watch them in their entirety even If I gotta do it in short bursts, but this film was so bad I had to stop it halfway through and leave my own room just to reflect on the decisions I've made leading up to that. I was not able to finish this movie and I don't plan to finish watching this abomination. This movie has been distributed to DVD, Amazon Prime and Netflix (which is where I watched it). My god, I respect Rob Zombies work not only in film but his music as well I actually enjoy his music especially Dragula, that's a personal favorite of mine. I've enjoyed his other films like the Zombie Horror Picture Show, 3 from Hell and Lords of Salem, but something went wrong here. I also want to point out I am a fan of The Munsters, I watched the classic tv show as a kid and even now I still enjoy that along with other 60's classics such as The Addams Family and the 1960's Batman TV show. But this film is far from its source material. It get's almost nothing right except the bare minimum. It doesn't feel like The Munsters it feels like a parody of The Munsters if that. It's just impressions and costumes mixed with cheesy rock and roll elements slapped on it. The jokes and Puns feel so forced and the setting is just horror meets old time rock and roll. I guess it's an origin story on how Herman and Lily met but their characters in the film don't match up who they are, it doesn't seem like The Munsters at all. It's set to be in the 1400's but treats it like the 1970's or 1980's and it doesn't really seem funny at all it just looks bizarre. I have no idea what they were thinking taking this 1960's classic and turning it into this cheesy origin love story. The origin story could possibly work, but I think Rob Zombie was the worst choice to do it considering his main works. When I first heard The Munsters were getting a movie this year and that it would be done up by Rob Zombie, I was excited. Unfortunately, the movie did not deliver on anything. It was clever, it wasn't funny and I don't even think cringe is the best way to describe this, it's just unbearable and I will never go back to finishing that film unless I was obligated to or if I get lucky with a lady if I watch it, that's it. It's a shame this happened to a beloved property I grew up watching, this makes The Munster's movies from the 90's look better by comparison and that's why I believe The Munsters (2022) is the worst movie of 2022.
Let's see how many enemies I make today, I'll post my Top 5 best movies tomorrow and should wrap up the year for me.
See ya!

I watched it at Midnight, and It was so Awesome! from the style to the cast, to the animation to the references of the early 2000s, I love the story so much, and the place in Canada, How Awesome is THAT!, I give it a 10 out of 10! I highly recommend this film for anyone wanting nostalgia of the early 2000s or anyone who is a Disney or Pixar fan.

The media’s portrayal of Jon Stewart criticism of the Harry Potter goblins honestly explains a lot about fandom puritanism and social media mobs.
The tl;dr for anyone who is out of the loop is that on a podcast in December, Jon Stewart criticized the goblins in Harry Potter as being antisemitic in their depiction/origin - which is true, and people have been saying that for years.
As far as I know, though, he only called the tropes and goblins themselves antisemitic, not JKR herself. Yet now multiple media outlets are claiming that Jon Stewart accused her of antisemtism - and now, claiming Stewart is trying to walk back or deny his criticism when he rightfully says he did not.
And honestly, this explains a lot about the telephone game the media has become in the age of social-media and Internet dominated news.

Pixar’s full letter, obtained by Variety, follows:
A Statement to Leadership from the LGBTQIA+ Employees of Pixar & Their Allies
We are writing because we are disappointed, hurt, afraid, and angry. In regards to Disney’s financial involvement with legislators behind the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, we hoped that our company would show up for us. But it didn’t.
Monday’s email, “Our Unwavering Commitment to the LGBTQ+ Community”, rang hollow. It began with the claim that Disney has a long history of supporting the LGBT community, but Disney Parks did not officially host Pride until 2019, in Paris alone. Disney has a history of shutting down fan-created Pride events in the parks, even removing same-sex couples for dancing together in the 1980’s. Additionally, Disney began capitalizing on Pride in 2018 with The Rainbow Mickey Collection, (while de-emphasizing the terms like LGBTQ+ and not even featuring explicitly LGBTQIA+ pieces such as Pride flag pins until 2021). To this end, it feels terrible to be a part of a company that makes money from Pride merch when it chooses to “step back” in times of our greatest need, when our rights are at risk.
The second claim stated that “corporate statements do very little to change outcomes or minds”. However, the very email making this claim opened with a corporate statement regarding the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Eight days after Russia invaded Ukraine, Disney paused the release of theatrical films in Russia and announced “We will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation.” Following the siege on the capital in 2021, Disney stopped all political donations to members of Congress who had objected to the presidential election results. In 2016, Disney told the state of Georgia: “We will plan to take our business elsewhere should any legislation allowing discriminatory practices be signed into state law” in response to the controversial Religious Liberty bill. By taking a stand, Disney directly affected the legislative outcome in Georgia. It has been proven that Disney’s corporate statements can and do make a difference.
Finally, we come to the push for Content as the answer. We at Pixar have personally witnessed beautiful stories, full of diverse characters, come back from Disney corporate reviews shaved down to crumbs of what they once were. Nearly every moment of overtly gay affection is cut at Disney’s behest, regardless of when there is protest from both the creative teams and executive leadership at Pixar. Even if creating LGBTQIA+ content was the answer to fixing the discriminatory legislation in the world, we are being barred from creating it. Beyond the “inspiring content” that we aren’t even allowed to create, we require action.
We are calling on Disney leadership to immediately withdraw all financial support from the legislators behind the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, to fully denounce this legislation publicly, and to make amends for their financial involvement. While signing on to donate to the HRC is a step in the correct direction, the shareholder meeting on Wednesday made it clear that this is not enough. Throughout the shareholder meeting, Disney did not take a hard stance in support of the LGBTQIA+ community, they instead attempted to placate “both sides” – and did not condemn hateful messages shared during the question and answer portion of the meeting. This is not what it means to “unequivocally stand in support of our LGBTQ+ employees, their families, and their communities.”
Disney taking a stand by honoring their company values has changed the course of legislation in the past. If Disney is true in its values, it will take a decisive public stand against the discriminatory legislation occurring in Florida and offer tangible support for the LGBTQIA+ communities affected by bigoted legislation sweeping the country. Stand against this bill in Florida and against the similar bills in South Carolina, Arizona, Virginia, and Tennessee. Stand against the transphobic legislation in Texas, Iowa, Utah, Kansas, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, and Alabama. Many hateful groups are attempting to eradicate us through legislation – we need you to stand with us entirely, not in empty words.
This matter is not something that can wait until Reimagine Tomorrow in April, or Pride Month in June. This matter needs to be addressed now. This is urgent. 42% of LGBTQIA+ youth seriously considered suicide in 2021, including more than half of transgender and nonbinary youth, with a large factor being the lack of support that these discriminatory legislations enable. Disney claims to care for the welfare of children, but supporting politicians like this directly hurts one of their most vulnerable audiences. There are lives at stake and Disney’s support could save those lives. “We still have more work to do,” your email said. This is that work.
Signed with Pride, The LGBTQIA+ employees of Pixar, and their allies
Disney has not publicly responded to Pixar’s claims, but after criticism over its belated response to the just-passed “Don’t Say Gay” bill, the $148.5-billion-dollar company pledged an astonishingly meager $5 million to “nonprofit organizations that advance social justice. The Human Rights Campaign advocacy group has refused to take the money—which is, for the record, 0.00003367 percent of Disney’s net worth—until the company takes more substantive action to combat the bill.

Keeping Up Appearances. I love this show, it's hilarious. Soon there's gonna be Allo Allo, and I love it equally much.
3- Are your earlobes attached or unattached?
Unattached and I hate it. Attached are much more aesthetically pleasing.
4- Is there any food you eliminated from your diet but miss eating?\what is it?
Coffee. My brain reacts badly to sudden caffeine shots and it stops my meds from working. This means no coffee, unless I opt for decaf.
5- Are you outgoing, introverted or somewhere in between?
Between, and I like it.
6- If you look to the right of you, what's one thing you see?
Dining table.

13- What is your favorite hair style on a guy?
Whatever suits him.
14- What is your favorite hair style on a girl?
Whatever suits her.
15- At what age do YOU consider someone to finally be an adult?
Adulthood has no age, apparently. Someone might be in their 40s and still act like a kid, and someone may be 16 and more mature for their age.
16- What's your ring size?
6. My wedding ring is so small that my husband can't even put it on the very tip of his pinky. I have really thin fingers, though.
17- Who is better - Spiderman or Batman?
Both are lame, thanks.
18- Do you\did you study enough in school?

Kind of.
35- Did you ever see the film Hook?
No, and I'm not interested.

Follow up to cringe culture essay: animated film edition
My post about cringe culture, fandoms, and kids media, which you can read here, briefly mentioned how outsiders mock animation fans for using animated kids shows to say that animation is for everyone. I want to follow up on that point.
I had the displeasure of seeing an awful post on my Twitter timeline that went “the ‘animation IS cinema’ people always pick the dweebiest movies to make their argument. Just post Beavis and Butt-Head Do America guys, nobody would disagree” Wow okay mr edgelord. You sound like a stereotypical Disney Channel bully.
The ‘animation is cinema’ image comes from The Mitchells vs the Machines, which is a family-friendly movie that many hold up as a good example of an animated movie, and how animation is for everyone. This gets mocked by outsiders (usually snooty Letterboxd types) who think that this movie uses the “Grubhub art style” or some BS like that. As you can see, people who act like that think animation is only for children, and plug their ears and go LALALA when you bring up good animated kids’ films with mass appeal. Whether you like it or not, animation always has and always will be cinema.
This brings us to another problem: a lack of mainstream adult animated films. Thanks to the stigma that animation is only for children, we never get mass-marketed animated movies for adults these days, and any movies that ARE for adults are only shown at art house theaters. Sausage Party was a mass-marketed adult movie, but it alienated its audience with its crass humor and kiddie appearance (Silly Rabbit, CGI animation is for kids! /s)
I feel like if adult animated films were marketed more, they would reach a wider audience. As much as I love Mitchells and most of Pixar’s output, animation fans should definitely check out movies specifically aimed at adults. Expand your palate a bit. It’s okay to watch kids stuff, and it’s okay if you only like kids stuff, but adult animation needs to be appreciated more, since it suffers a stigma that it’s all low-brow, poorly animated, offensive comedy.
ADULT ANIMATED FILMS TO CHECK OUT:
Beavis and Butthead Do America (as well as Beavis and Butthead Do the Universe) - These are more teen movies then adult movies, and they are low brow, but they do it (badumtsh) in the best possible way
Heavy Metal (1981)
Watership Down*
Fantastic Planet
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Perfect Blue
Paprika
The End of Evangelion
Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer
Princess Mononoke*
Princess (2006 danish movie)
The Plague Dogs
Entergalactic
The works of Ralph Bakshi
I Lost My Body
The Spine of Night
Pink Floyd - The Wall
The Prince of Egypt*
*these are technically aimed at kids, but I mean it when I say that they deserve higher ratings and feel more adult than family-friendly
Feel free to add more suggestions

On Cringe Culture, Kids' Shows, and Elitism
i'M nOt rEaDiNg aLl tHaT" Ok, scroll down for the TL:DR. (Also on SpaceHey and Blogspot)
The now ex-CEO of Disney, Bob Chapek, has stated the animation is only for children. Never mind that this is the same company that owns The Simpsons, and was founded by a guy who said, and I quote "You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway."
Naturally, this has caused universal backlash within the animation community, with many people defending animation as a medium for everyone, not just kids. However, the animation community was also mocked by outsiders for using kids' shows, such as Gravity Falls, to prove that animation is for everyone. In fact, the animation community (more specifically the western animation community) has always been cruelly harassed by outsiders for watching cartoons, especially ones aimed at children.
There is nothing wrong with watching children's shows AT ALL. Watching kids' shows doesn't make you immature, a pedophile, or whatever bullshit that outsiders want to spew. Remember the Walt Disney quote above; many kids' shows are designed to be appealing to multiple audiences, including adults. Kids' shows with adult appeal (or ones that don't annoy the living daylights out of parents, or are legitimately good for kids) are more likely to be praised and recommended by said parents than, say, Cocomelon.
However, because of the stigma attached to kids' shows, many animation fans feel the need to hate on/ignore slice-of-life or comedy cartoons, while only praising plot-driven or "dark" ones like Gravity Falls, The Owl House, and Avatar, and say that they are "not for kids." Again, there is NOTHING wrong with liking kids' shows (these shows do feel more YA-ish though, but that's another subject for another blog). All three of these shows are very high quality, and you don't need to justify your enjoyment of them to outsiders. The constant prioritization of dramatic cartoons over lighthearted ones in the cartoon fandom creates a sense of snobby elitism, and leads to...
...fans of lighthearted shows like Big City Greens and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic being bullied for liking said shows because they are "childish." Which, in turn, leads to fans of lighthearted kids' shows trying to make their shows seem dark in order to make the elitists like them. Back in the day, many bronies made dark fan works based on MLP such as "Cupcakes," "Smile HD," and "Rainbow Factory" and put them out in public with no age restriction, resulting in a bunch of traumatized children. The bronies also acted like they were the target audience and not children.
Apart from the bronies' fan works, MLP also suffered from exaggerated darkness on TV Tropes subpages. Speaking of TV Tropes, there was a very infamous incident regarding the kids' show "Ready Jet Go!" Aside from the stigma surrounding general kids' programs, you also have the stigma attached to preschool shows that they are dumb and for babies (never mind that babies/infants are too young to watch TV, and if they watch it before they turn 2, it would really hurt their brain. Look up the Baby Einstein controversy for more info), especially with GoAnimate users making it hip to hate on Dora and Barney. Not every preschool/elementary show is the same as Cocomelon. There are many high-quality programs for the little ones such as Arthur, Cyberchase, Sesame Street, Bluey, Mister Rogers, VeggieTales, Oswald, Blue's Clues, LazyTown, Bear in the Big Blue House, and WordGirl. Can you really blame fans for liking them when they’re just so good?
With all this in mind, someone once made a Nightmare Fuel page for Ready Jet Go on TV Tropes in order to make it more popular, because the user felt alone in liking the show and it was a big comfort for them. They also cited the snobbery of the cartoon community as a reason for their making the page on the Nightmare Fuel cleanup thread. The page was eventually deleted because it was mocked cruelly by 4chan. It didn't make the show more popular, it gave it a bad reputation.
The user shouldn't have to had made that stupid page with examples exaggerating the show's supposed scariness. If it weren't for the cartoon community being a bunch of elitists, as well as the kids/preschool show stigma, this wouldn't have happened. The sad part is, even though the page is long gone, the page STILL gets brought up by RJG haters to mock the show, its' fans, and TV Tropes for "pissing their pants over Ready Jet Go" which is beating a dead horse at this point. Seriously, make like Elsa and LET IT GO. Please stop bringing it up, and if you’re reading this blog, please don’t look it up. Please have sympathy for Ready Jet Go fans. We’re actually a very nice fandom.
The 4chan bullying also ties into cringe culture. On sites such as DeviantArt, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, and 4chan, many people are considered "cringe" and cyberbullied for "crimes" like making a colorful character or watching cartoons. The cyberbullies in question are just a bunch of pathetic lowlives who bully people for being happy, because they think that bullying happy people will make them feel better about their disgusting selves.
As noted here, cringe culture affects autistic people the most. Autistic people tend to get really passionate about their favorite things, or "special interests," and like to talk about them all the time and make their own characters. But according to some unwritten rule of society, your OCs have to be as deep as Shakespeare, and you're not allowed to like 'childish' things even a little bit. (I think it's worth mentioning that the Nightmare Fuel person was autistic themselves). Many proponents of cringe culture participate in concern trolling, acting like they don't want so-called "cringe" people to be bullied and want them to be good artists/writers. Cringe culture doesn't make people become better creators, it makes them become boring creators and repressing their true passions.
Every autistic person is different, which is why it's called the autism spectrum. However, it is true that a lot of autistic people enjoy children's media, likely because of how calming and simple they tend to be. For example, Thomas the Tank Engine is very popular with autistics because the engines' emotions are easy to tell, and the show has a chill atmosphere (by the way, the Thomas fandom is a frequent victim of cringe culture). Plus, it legitimately has Tolkien-level lore dating back to the 1940s. I'm not even kidding, look up "The Island of Sodor: Its People, History and Railways." It always pisses me off when outsiders act surprised that "tHOmAs tHe tRaIn hAs A fAnDoM?!?1!" It's based on a book series that's existed since 1945, of fucking course it has a fandom, dumbass.
TL;DR - 'Animation is for everyone' and 'it's okay to like kids' cartoons/lighthearted cartoons' are statements that can and should co-exist. Also, autistic people can like whatever they want and those who harass them are the scum of the earth.

I said 15+ years, and I was thinking of the movies that came out when I was a kid, not you prev. so i'm talking about like 2005-2010. The 90s are not in my wheelhouse, and are not what I was talking about.
so fuck you guys i looked at some lists.
Note that if I didn't know if something was an adaptation, I called it New, so this may be overestimating the number of new films.
2005 - 2 sequels, 2 adaptations, 2 remakes, 4 new
2006 - 5 sequels, 1 adaptation, 4 new
2007 - 5 sequels, 3 adaptations, 1 new, 1 new story that is an adaptation of a major franchise (Transformers)
2008 - 4 sequels, 3 new, 2 adaptations, 1 new story that is an adaptation of a major franchise (Iron Man)
2009 - 4 sequels, 4 new (!), 2 adaptations (I guess Star Trek is kind of a sequel/adaptation/remake)
2010 - 5 sequels, 4 new, 1 remake/adaptation
Let's look at 2020-2024 again. 2020 is REALLY interesting because it's Pandemic Time, so a lot of movies that would not normally be on a list like this, with markedly lower budgets, made it.
2020- 4 sequels, 1 new/historical movie, 1 remake, and 3-4 adaptations depending on how you categorize Sonic. It is interesting though that the three adaptations that aren't Sonic are adaptations of rather old books.
2021 - 4 sequels, 1 remake/sequel, 3 MCU adaptations/sequels, 1 new
2022 - 9 sequels, 1 remake (!!!!)
2023 - 4 sequels, 2 new stories that are adaptations of major franchises, 1 new/adaptation/historical, 1 remake, one LMAO that's fucked up huh
2024 (so far, note that because the year is not over this one is I think calculated a little differently) - You could argue it's 10 sequels, but I think Twisters and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice are that weird concept of sequel/remake. Either way it's at least 8 sequels, which is also high!
So in this sense, it kind of does seem like things have gotten worse since 2005-2010? Sure, I'd buy that. But hey, look at the years in between:
2011 - 8 sequels, 2 new that are also adaptations that are MCU (!!!)
2012 - 5 sequels, 3 adaptations/remakes (ignore the N on Hunger Games, I was being dumb), 2 new
2013 - 6 sequels, 2 sort of sequels/remakes/prequels, 2 new
2014 - 6 sequels, 2 new, 2 sequels/remakes
2015 - 6 sequels, 1 new, 2 adaptations, 1 remake
2016 - 5 sequels, 2 new, 1 remake, 2 adaptations (one of which is suicide squad which is kind of a sequel)
2017 - 6 sequels, 1 remake, 2 adaptations, and whatever you want to call spider man homecoming
2018 - 8 sequels, 1 remake, 1 new MCU adaptation
2019 - 5 sequels, 2 remakes, 2 adaptations, 1 new MCU adaptation
So honestly? Yeah, I was almost right. I guess I should have said 10+ instead of 15+. This is not a new trend. We've been seeing the number of sequels/remakes/etc. in the top ten movies increase since I was a kid (meaning ~2010). I think there's some more interesting stuff here about the decline in popularity of rom coms, the rise of comic book movies, and the more recent absence of Pixar from the top films list, but ultimately my main point remains completely valid: the list of top grossing movies per year is a stupid way to see if movies are 'getting worse.' all it measures is what is most popular, which for the at least the last 10-15 years has been dominated by sequels, remakes, and adaptations.
That said, 2022 and 2024 so far do have an outsize number of sequels in the top ten, but they are in line with 2011 and 2018, and depending on your point of view, 2007 was similar.
And, for what it's worth, a sequel, adaptation, or remake is not inherently worse than an original movie. I've seen plenty of shitty original movies and plenty of shitty sequels.
is it me or like, have movies been getting worse?????
