4. "DO I MAKE YOU NERVOUS?" (0.8k)
you pad your way to your small living room, two mugs of hot chamomile tea in tow, diligently trying not to spill any on your pristine, tiled floor.
but not as much as you’re trying to steady your hammering heart.
the perpetrator of your impending cardiac arrest remains unaware of your plight, however, seemingly relaxed with his right arm resting on top of the backrest of your two-seater couch.
upon seeing you approaching, he sits up ever so minutely, but his arm stays put.
“thanks,” he mumbles as you carefully place the beverages on the tiny coffee table in front of you.
“sure,” you retort, voice pathetically wobbly, and for a second you just stand there awkwardly, not knowing what to do with yourself.
bakugou’s eyes drift up to look at you, questioning. “aren’t you going to sit?”
“r-right!”
gingerly, you plop yourself down beside the man, purposefully making sure there’s an appropriate enough distance between the two of you.
a few moments pass with neither of you saying anything, the air so unusually tense you could cut it with a meat cleaver. you find yourself toying with the hem of the boxer shorts you hastily threw on while bakugou did his business in your comfort room upon your arrival at your apartment unit.
the very unit he’s visiting for the first time.
with tonight being the first either of you has ever visited the other’s home.
alone.
so, yeah—maybe the looming heart attack is a bit warranted.
“
this is your place, right?”
your face contorts in a mix of offense and confusion before you can think better against it. “of course, it is!”
“then why do you look so fucking stiff?”
at the call out, it suddenly dawns on you how tense your body is, spine straight in a rare occurrence of you having good posture. you roll your shoulders back in an attempt to relax a little, still finding yourself unable to look the pro-hero in the eye.
beside you, bakugou huffs, before muttering: “and are you saving some space for the holy spirit, or something? fucking glued to the armrest
”
you can’t help it—you snort at his petulant comment. this grants you a light shove from the man, who doesn’t need to move much to do so what with his wingspan being abnormally wide.
“quit laughing at me, dumbass.”
it takes you a few more seconds to get the chuckles out, and you’re finally lulled into a comfortable silence soon after. mustering the courage, you chance a glance at bakugou, who’s apparently already been looking at you.
“what?” you ask, feeling overly self-conscious.
he studies you for a while longer. “are you really going to sit like that for the rest of the night?”
you’re really going to have that fucking stroke.
“why?” you manage to get out, “where do you want me to sit?”
again, bakugou lets out an exasperated sigh, as if this entire exchange is tiring him out. “do you need me to spell it out? get fucking closer.”
before you even get the chance to get flustered at his command, bakugou grabs you by the hip with one, strong hand, unceremoniously pulling you flush against his firm chest.
instantly, you feel yourself flame in embarrassment, mind barely registering the brazen display of confidence and strength. you find yourself trying not to focus too much on the comforting heat radiating off his frame, or how his toned torso feels so solid against your skin.
or, perhaps most importantly, the fact that he just doesn’t seem to get nervous around you as you do around him.
you don’t get to dig too deep into that, though, because bakugou reaches out and gently tugs your head down against his chest, effectively snapping you out of your trance.
but that’s when you hear—and feel—it.
stunned, you jolt away from the man, who startles ever so slightly you would’ve missed it if it weren’t for the way you’re staring at him in absolute shock.
“what the f—”
“do i make you nervous?” you blurt out before you can talk yourself out of it.
bakugou’s face scrunches up, “what?”
“your heart’s beating so fast,” you point out. “or at least i think it is.”
bakugou doesn’t say anything for what feels like an hour, before he throws his hands up and turns away from you, opting to face the TV instead. “so fucking what. sue me.”
you can’t help the grin that takes over your face at the sight, a tinge of pink now resting on the high planes of the pro-hero’s cheeks.
bakugou side-eyes you, face sullen, “the fuck are you grinning about?”
“nothing,” you sing-song, looping your arm around his in a burst of new-found confidence. “just found out i make pro-hero dynamight nervous.”
at that, he scoffs. “that’s hardly an achievement, dumbass. i’m your fucking boyfriend.”

December 2023 – Lake Como, Italy
The cozy little cafĂ© is nestled along the shore of Lake Como, a perfect hideaway from the cold December air that clings to the streets of the small Italian town. The soft chatter of locals and a few tourists fills the warm, inviting space, where the scent of fresh pastries and rich espresso mingles with the smell of pine from the nearby mountains. You had stumbled upon this cafĂ© earlier in the week, deciding it was the perfect place to take a break from the relentless pace of training and the pressures of preparing for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Today, you’re back, hoping to enjoy a quiet moment with a book and a hot chocolate, the perfect antidote to the chill outside.
As you settle into your seat by the window, you notice a boy, probably around your age, walk in. His curly black hair is a bit damp from the mist outside, and his sharp brown eyes scan the room before he approaches the counter. He’s dressed casually, in a way that suggests he’s not a local either—perhaps another tourist seeking respite in this quiet corner of Italy. You glance back at your book, trying not to think too much about the way your heart skipped a beat when you saw him.
A few minutes later, your peaceful solitude is interrupted when the waitress places a steaming cup of coffee in front of you, alongside a plate with a slice of cake. You frown, looking up at her in confusion.
“I’m sorry, but I didn’t order this,” you say politely, wondering if there’s been a mix-up.
The waitress looks puzzled for a moment and then checks her notepad. “Ah, my mistake. This was meant for that young gentleman over there,” she explains, glancing over at the boy from earlier, who’s just sat down at a table across the room.
You both share a brief moment of awkward eye contact as she moves to correct the error. However, instead of simply taking your original order, the boy stands up and walks over to your table.
“Sorry about that,” he says with a soft British accent, an embarrassed smile playing on his lips. “I think I accidentally took your drink.”
You can’t help but smile back at him. “No problem. I guess it happens.”
He hesitates for a moment, then gestures to the empty seat across from you. “Mind if I join you? Since we’ve already swapped drinks and all.”
You nod, slightly amused by the situation. “Sure, why not?”
As he sits down, he introduces himself. “I’m Arvid, by the way. Arvid Lindblad.”
His name rings a bell somewhere in the back of your mind, but you can’t quite place it.
The conversation starts off simple—how you both ended up in this quiet town in Italy, what you’re doing on your break. You learn that Arvid is a racing driver, fresh off his first season in single-seater racing. You find out he’s just completed his first year in Formula 4, a big leap from karting. He’s only 16, just like you, but already chasing his dreams with the kind of determination you can relate to.
When you tell him about your swimming career, his eyes light up with genuine interest. “So, you’re heading to the Paris Olympics next year? That’s amazing!”
You shrug, trying to downplay it even though you’re bursting with excitement inside. “Yeah, I’m just starting out in senior swimming. It’s a lot of hard work, but I’m looking forward to it.”
The more you talk, the more you realize how much you have in common—two young athletes on the brink of something big, both navigating the pressures of being at the start of your careers. You laugh over the shared struggles of maintaining strict diets and the endless hours of training, and you find yourself enjoying his company more than you expected.
Time flies by, and before you know it, the sky outside the cafĂ© is beginning to darken. The streets of the small town are illuminated by the soft glow of street lamps, casting reflections on the lake’s still surface. Arvid checks his phone, and you realize how long you’ve been talking.
“I should probably head back,” he says reluctantly, standing up and putting on his jacket. “But it was really nice meeting you. It’s not every day I meet someone who understands what it’s like, you know?”
“Yeah, I get that,” you agree, feeling a pang of disappointment that the conversation is ending.
He hesitates for a moment before reaching into his pocket and pulling out his phone. “How about we stay in touch? I mean, we’re both on a crazy journey, and it’d be cool to keep each other updated.”
You smile, feeling a warmth spread through you at the thought. “I’d like that.”
You exchange phone numbers, and he flashes you one last smile before stepping out into the cold evening. As you watch him walk away, you can’t help but feel that this chance encounter was something more than just a simple mix-up at a cafĂ©. There’s a spark of excitement in your chest as you think about the possibility of a new friendship, maybe even more, with someone who seems to understand your world.
As you leave the cafĂ©, the memory of Arvid’s smile stays with you, a pleasant reminder that sometimes, the most unexpected moments can lead to something special.
July 4, 2024 – Silverstone, England
The early morning mist hangs over the Silverstone Circuit, the cool summer air carrying the faint scent of rain-soaked asphalt. You’ve been awake for hours, the excitement of being at such an iconic racetrack bubbling inside you. It’s your 17th birthday, and you couldn’t imagine a better way to spend it than watching Arvid race in his first home event in Formula 3. You’ve flown in from your training base to be here, a rare weekend off just before the final push to the Paris Olympics. The significance of the day isn’t lost on Arvid, who’s already joked about how he should win both races because “his girlfriend is finally here to see him race.”
Sometime between December and April, after numerous face times, texts, flirtations, and long phone calls, Arvid had finally asked you out. You had of course said yes, and it might’ve been one of the wiser decisions you’ve made in your life.
The title of “girlfriend” is something you both haven’t really discussed publicly. In fact, your relationship has been kept under wraps, a precious secret between the two of you. But here, among the roaring engines and the adrenaline of race day, it feels almost natural. The paddock is a world of its own, buzzing with energy as teams prepare for the weekend’s action. You’ve tucked yourself into the corner of the Prema Racing hospitality area, trying to keep a low profile while still catching glimpses of Arvid as he preps for the sprint race.
He started 11th in qualifying yesterday, which places him second on the grid for today’s sprint race due to the reverse grid rule. The sky is overcast, the threat of rain ever-present as you nervously watch the cars line up on the grid. Your heart races as the lights go out, and you see Arvid immediately dart towards the inside line, using his position to take the lead into the first corner.
The rain begins to fall steadily, making the track slippery and treacherous. You can barely breathe as Arvid expertly controls his car, keeping his lead even as the conditions worsen. You’ve seen him race before, but never like this. He’s confident, precise, and completely in control. Every lap he completes without incident brings a rush of relief, mixed with growing pride. He handles the wet conditions masterfully, pulling away from the rest of the field and maintaining a gap that seems insurmountable.
As the final lap approaches, the nerves in your stomach turn into a fluttering anticipation. The checkered flag waves, and Arvid crosses the line, taking his first victory in Formula 3. Your heart swells with pride as the crowd erupts in cheers for their home favorite. Arvid’s voice crackles through the team radio, barely containing his excitement as he thanks his team. You can’t help but smile, knowing how much this win means to him, especially with you here to witness it.
After the podium celebrations, you finally get a chance to see him. He’s still in his racing suit, his hair damp with sweat and rain, but there’s a wide grin on his face as he spots you. Without thinking, he pulls you into a hug, lifting you off the ground in his excitement.
“Happy birthday,” he whispers in your ear, still holding you close.
You laugh, feeling warmth spread through you. “I think this might be the best birthday present ever.”
He pulls back, his blue eyes shining with happiness. “I told you I’d win because you were here. But now the pressure’s on for tomorrow.”
“You’ve got this,” you say, your voice filled with confidence. “You’re racing at home, and you’ve already won once. Tomorrow will be just as good.”
His smile turns a bit softer as he looks at you, his hand still resting on your back. “I hope so.”
July 7, 2024 – Silverstone, England
The rain hasn’t let up. If anything, it’s heavier today, turning the track into a slick, treacherous challenge. Arvid starts from 11th on the grid for the feature race, and you can see the determination in his eyes as he gets ready. You’re back in the hospitality area, nervously watching the screen as the race begins.
From the start, it’s clear that the conditions are far worse than yesterday. Several drivers struggle to keep their cars on the track, with spins and incidents happening in the opening laps. But Arvid remains focused, making up positions with a combination of skill and calculated risks. The spray from the cars ahead makes visibility almost nonexistent, but he navigates through it with the same precision that won him the sprint race.
Lap after lap, he climbs up the order, each overtaking maneuver sending a thrill through you. He’s now up to third, and the tension is almost unbearable as he closes in on the leaders. The rain shows no sign of stopping, but Arvid seems undeterred, his car slicing through the standing water with incredible control.
With just a few laps to go, he makes his move for the lead. The two cars ahead of him are battling, their fight for position allowing him to close the gap. You hold your breath as he dives down the inside, taking the lead with a daring move that leaves you both exhilarated and terrified.
The final laps feel like an eternity. You’re on the edge of your seat, fingers crossed, praying that nothing goes wrong. And then, finally, the checkered flag waves again, and Arvid crosses the line in first place, completing an astonishing double victory at his home race.
The sheer emotion of the moment hits you like a wave. You’ve never felt this proud before. He’s made history, becoming the first driver to win both the sprint and feature races on the same weekend in Formula 3, and he did it in front of his home crowd. But more than that, he did it with you here, sharing the moment with him.
When you see him after the race, he’s practically glowing with happiness. You can’t help but throw your arms around him the moment you’re alone, the dampness of his racing suit and the rain on his hair forgotten in the rush of the moment.
“You were incredible,” you whisper, pulling back just enough to look at him.
His smile is soft, almost shy despite the incredible feat he’s just accomplished. “I couldn’t have done it without you here. I guess your birthday luck really works.”
You laugh, feeling a warmth spread through you that has nothing to do with the cold air around you. “I think it’s more than just luck. You were amazing out there.”
For a moment, the world around you fades away—the roar of the crowd, the celebrations, the rain. It’s just the two of you, standing in a corner of the paddock, holding onto each other like you never want to let go. This victory isn’t just his, it’s yours too, a shared moment that feels like the beginning of something even bigger.
As the rain continues to fall, you know that this weekend, this victory, is something neither of you will ever forget. And as you stand there, wrapped in each other’s arms, you realize that this is just the beginning of your journey together.
July 27, 2024 – Paris, France
The aquatic center is buzzing with excitement, but for you, the world has narrowed to the confines of the pool and the upcoming 400m freestyle final. Your heart is pounding in your chest as you wait behind the starting block. The hours of training, the sacrifices, the intense preparation—it's all come down to this single moment. The realization is both exhilarating and terrifying.
When the starting horn sounds, you dive into the water with a force born from months of relentless practice. The initial shock of the cold pool quickly fades as you find your rhythm. The water wraps around you, your body cutting through with each stroke in a precise, rhythmic dance. You can feel every muscle working, every breath timed perfectly. The world outside the pool seems to disappear, leaving only the relentless push towards the finish.
As the race progresses, the mental and physical strain begins to build. The 400m is a test of endurance and technique, a grueling battle that makes every second feel like an eternity. Each flip turn is a moment of calculated efficiency, your body moving with the practiced grace of a well-oiled machine. The pain and fatigue become almost secondary to the drive to finish strong.
In the final stretch, every stroke is a battle against exhaustion. Your lungs burn, your legs feel like lead, but the sight of the wall draws closer with each powerful stroke. You reach out, touch the wall, and the scoreboard flickers with your name at the top.
A wave of relief and triumph washes over you. You’ve won the gold medal in the 400m freestyle. You’re immediately enveloped in a thick towel, but the medal’s weight around your neck feels like a tangible reward for your hard work. The feeling of accomplishment is overwhelming, and as you look around, the realization that Arvid isn’t here with you is a bittersweet reminder of his absence.
Despite not being able to be there in person, Arvid’s support shines through. He’s reposting every update from the Olympics’ official Instagram and your national team’s account, his enthusiasm and pride evident in every story. It’s adorable, and since to the world you’re both single, talented kids, they just think of Arvid as a big fan of yours (even if he’s never shown any interest in swimming).
July 29, 2024 – Paris, France
The 200m freestyle final arrives, and with it, a different kind of pressure. This race is faster, shorter, and requires a different kind of intensity. As you prepare behind the blocks, the energy is electric. You remind yourself to stay focused and harness the explosive speed you’ve trained for.
When the race starts, you’re in the water in an instant. The 200m is a sprint, every stroke demanding maximum effort and precision. You push off the wall with every flip turn, your legs kicking furiously as you fight to maintain your speed. The water feels almost alive, a constant challenge that you meet with every ounce of your strength and determination.
As you approach the final stretch, the strain of the race is almost unbearable. Your body is screaming, but you push through, determined to finish strong. You touch the wall and look up at the scoreboard, the gold medal now yours once again. The joy is immediate and profound. You’ve done it—another gold medal, another dream achieved.
Even though Arvid can’t be there in person, his support is unwavering. He’s reposting your victories and celebrating with every update from the various social media accounts. There’s fourteen stories on his account, and only one of them is celebrating Prema’s team championship.
July 31, 2024 – Paris, France
The 100m freestyle final is the second last of the sprint events, and the intensity is palpable. You’ve come to expect the pressure, but each race is a new challenge. This event demands everything you have, like every other event, and the stakes are, like always, incredibly high.
When the horn sounds, you dive into the pool, every muscle straining with the effort. The race is a blur of speed and power, each stroke a calculated move to stay ahead. The competition is fierce, and every fraction of a second counts. You push through the pain, the finish line drawing closer with each powerful stroke.
You reach the wall and see the gold medal reflected in the scoreboard. It’s a moment of pure exhilaration, a culmination of all the hard work you’ve put in. As you stand on the podium, the national anthem plays, and the weight of the medal feels like the ultimate reward for your dedication and perseverance.
This is the first race Arvid’s there for, and in true Olympic champion fashion, the moment the podium ceremony’s over, you run over to hug him. He’s so happy for you, and your coach is standing a few steps away from the two of you, smiling and maybe, just maybe, a tear escaped his eyes, but he swears it was because you won the race, not because he was happy to see you so excited.
You wanted to spend more time with Arvid, but you still have one more race. The 50m freestyle, and so, you get back to your training, with detailed plans and elaborate dreams of celebrating together after your final race.
August 4, 2024 – Paris, France
The final race, the 50m freestyle, is the shortest but the most explosive. It’s the culmination of your Olympic journey, and every ounce of energy you have is channeled into this final sprint. The anticipation is high, and you’re ready to give it your all. It’s your chance to go four for four, win all your events and make so many people, but most importantly your loved ones proud.
You dive into the water, and the race is a flurry of speed and power. Every stroke is a test of your strength and technique, and the finish line is almost within reach before you know it. The wall comes up quickly, and you touch it with everything you’ve got.
Winning the 50m freestyle gold is the perfect end to a successful Olympic campaign. The joy and pride you feel are overwhelming, and the medal around your neck feels like the ultimate validation of all your hard work and sacrifice.
Arvid is there, cheering you on with all his heart, despite his own recent challenges. By now, the whole arena knows that you two know each other (they don’t know you’re dating, just that you’re REALLY good friends) and he’s probably hurt his throat with all the cheering.
August 8, 2024 – France
The sun has barely risen over the sleepy French town you and Arvid have chosen for a peaceful getaway. The Paris Olympics are now behind you, and both of you are savoring a rare moment of calm. After the whirlwind of events, the racing and swimming, the medals and the fame, today is all about celebrating Arvid's 17th birthday.
You wake up to find the early morning light filtering softly through the window, casting a warm glow across the room. The small, charming cottage you've rented for this special occasion feels like a perfect haven, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the Olympic Village and racetrack. Arvid is still asleep beside you, his face relaxed and serene, a stark contrast to the intensity of his recent races.
You quietly slip out of bed, wanting to prepare a small surprise for him. The kitchen is quaint and cozy, and you find yourself surrounded by fresh ingredients from the local market. With careful precision, you start making breakfast—fresh croissants, fruit, and a rich, creamy cafĂ© au lait. The simple act of cooking feels comforting, a gentle way to express your appreciation for the quiet moments together.
As the aroma of breakfast begins to fill the air, you hear a soft rustling behind you. Arvid stirs, blinking sleepily as he catches the scent of the food. He stretches, yawning, and when he sees you working in the kitchen, a wide smile spreads across his face.
“Morning,” he says, his voice husky with sleep but filled with affection.
“Good morning,” you reply, setting the table with a flourish. “Happy birthday, Arvid.”
He chuckles, pulling you into a gentle embrace before you can respond. The warmth of his body against yours is comforting, and you savor the closeness. “Thank you. This looks amazing.”
After breakfast, you both decide to explore the town, its picturesque streets and quaint shops providing a charming backdrop to your leisurely stroll. The pace is relaxed, and you find yourselves wandering through local markets, sampling fresh pastries and enjoying the leisurely rhythm of the day. It’s a welcome change from the high-octane world of competitive sports, allowing you both to recharge and enjoy each other’s company.
The afternoon is spent in a similar manner—casual and carefree. You find a small, secluded spot by a nearby river and spend hours simply talking, laughing, and watching the world go by. The conversation flows easily, touching on everything from race strategies and training regimens to your favorite movies and future dreams. It’s a precious time of connection, a perfect balance to the intensity of the past weeks.
As the evening approaches, you both return to the cottage, where a surprise party is waiting. Arvid’s parents and a few close friends have arrived, the surprise coordinated in secret while you and Arvid were out. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, filled with the comforting scent of a homemade meal and the soft glow of fairy lights strung around the garden.
The surprise is met with delighted gasps and cheerful greetings as Arvid’s family and friends gather around. His parents, who you’ve heard so much about, greet you with warmth and enthusiasm, clearly thrilled to be celebrating this special occasion with their son. The dinner is a feast of local French delicacies, and the evening is filled with laughter, heartfelt toasts, and the joyful noise of celebration.
As the night draws on, the cake is brought out—a beautifully decorated creation, adorned with candles. Arvid makes a wish, blows the candles out, and immediately gets his face smashed with cream. He stops himself from cursing in front of his parents, but a very discreet middle finger makes his friends laugh.
After dinner, you and Arvid step outside, taking a moment to enjoy the cool night air. The stars are bright overhead, and the quiet of the countryside provides a peaceful backdrop to your thoughts. Arvid takes your hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“Today was perfect,” he says, his voice filled with gratitude. “Thank you for everything.”
You smile, leaning against him. “I’m glad you enjoyed it. You deserve it after everything you’ve accomplished.”
As the night deepens, you both head back inside, the warmth of the cottage and the company of loved ones wrapping around you like a comforting embrace. The day has been a perfect blend of relaxation and celebration, a fitting end to a remarkable journey.
As you prepare for bed, you take a moment to reflect on the past few weeks—each race, each triumph, each shared moment. The memories are vivid and cherished, and as you look over at Arvid, who is already settling into bed with a contented sigh, you know that this quiet birthday celebration is a beautiful counterpoint to the intense and exhilarating experiences you’ve shared.
It’s been a good break, and while you’ll leave for your training tomorrow, this was something you had needed desperately, a welcome change from your gruesome training schedule.

Marked for Carnage Masterlist
FIC CONTENT WARNINGS CAN BE FOUND AT THE TOP OF THE FIC MASTERLIST
A/N: Hey there! Chapter 4 is finally live. As always, 18+ only, minors DNI. I hope you enjoy! I'm also thinking about opening up requests for imagines/one shots if anyone was interested? Let me know :)
Word Count: 3549 words
Ronnie sat on her couch, half watching old reruns of Kitchen Nightmares half zoning out thinking about the shit show that was her family. She was trying her hardest to repair the rift she knew she had caused between her and her brother but it felt like he and Donna wanted to do anything they could to prevent that from happening. It wasn't like she had no reason to leave like she did. Suddenly her phone rang from where she had it sat on the coffee table, pulling her from her thoughts. She pressed answer and held it to her ear. "Hello?" "Ronnie, hey! Wait this is Ronnie right?" Juice's voice travelled through the receiver. Ronnie laughed, pulling the phone to her other ear. "Hey Juicy," she smirked. "Finally making good on your promise, huh?" "Hey now," he complained. "It's only been a couple of days since I seen you. You miss me that bad huh?" she see feel his grin through the phone. "So what's up?" Ronnie asked. "I wanted to see if you were free this afternoon? Thought maybe we could hang out?"
Ronnie nodded before replying. "Yeah, I'm free. What did you wanna do?" There was a couple of seconds of silence from Juice's end. "Juice?" she asked, wondering if her had hung up or lost connection. "Yeah, shit sorry I'm here," he said. Ronnie laughed softly. "I, uh, kind of didn’t think further ahead than calling you, honestly," Juice admitted. Ronnie laughed harder, smiling at Juice's confession. "Ok, well do you just want to hang out at my place?" Ronnie asked, beginning to chew one of her nails as her heart rate picked up. She glanced around her living room quickly, making a note of things she needed to hastily tidy if he said yes. "Yeah, ok, sounds good," he replied, and her pulse doubled again. Standing and placing the phone between her ear and her should she began tidying up, pulling off her sweat pants as she made her way to her bedroom to change. "Ok, I'll text you the address."
-------------------------------------------------
Juice pulled his bike up in front of the address Ronnie had sent him. It was a quaint little house in a part of Charming he didn’t even know existed. He strolled up the footpath and knocked on her door. He heard footsteps and suddenly the door in front of him was yanked open. Ronnie greeted him with a breath taking smile, sending the butterflies already in his stomach into a complete frenzy. "Hey you," she said, her words sending his blood roaring. He almost liked it more than hearing her call him by his name. "Hey you," he replied, bending to take his boots off. "Oh don't bother," Ronnie huffed, waving him off. Juice shrugged and walked through the open door, stopping to take in the living room he had walked into. There was a two seater sofa, a bookshelf that was almost overflowing, the shelves bowing under the weight of all the books she had. A small tv was sat on a unit against the wall opposite the sofa and a little coffee table was in the middle of the room.
"Sit down, if you want," Ronnie motioned towards the couch. "Can I get you anything? Water or a beer?" Juice took a seat and nodded. "I'll take a beer thanks." It was only 3 o'clock, hours before he and Tig had to break into Unser's and steal the truck for the run to Nevada. One beer wouldn’t hurt. And judging by the way his nerves were tingling he could use a little liquid courage. Ronnie left the room, presumably to go to the kitchen, and Juice used the few moments to try to calm himself. How did this girl get him so wound up? He didn’t feel like this when interacting with sweetbutts. Taking deep breaths, he looked around the room once again. His eyes fell on a nearly empty bottle of tequila perched under the coffee table. He picked it up, studying it. Ronnie came back nursing two beers. She gave him his, and huffed a laugh, taking the tequila from him. "Sorry about that," she left the room before returning again, sans tequila. "It's my dads. Leave's that shit around here all the time."
Juice nodded, clinking his beer with hers as she sat down. He took her in. She was wearing a grey tshirt and matching cotton shorts. He had never seen her wearing anything but long pants and was surprised to find her ink didn’t stop at her arm. She had tattoos on the tops of her thick thighs, over her left knee and down onto her shin, looking like it wrapped around to her calf too. They looked like an assortment of old school traditional designs, including skulls, a bird and even a witches cauldron. He met her stare and smiled. She just kept getting sexier and sexier. "Can't say I've seen a lot of chicks with as much ink as you," he motioned towards her leg. She smiled and shrugged. "I grew up around people with a lot of ink. Always loved how it looked. Got my first the day I turned 18, much to my fathers dismay," she chucked at the memory. "And kind of haven't stopped getting them since," Ronnie smiled, taking a sip of beer.
"What about you?" she asked, pointing her bottle towards his head. Juice absentmindedly ran a hand over his mohawk. "Yeah uh
kinda just got these because they look cool," he shrugged, laughing awkwardly. He didn’t like telling that story because so many people had the mind set that tattoos should mean something. Ronnie just smiled. "That's why I get mine," she said. Juice felt his awkwardness melt away. "So, is Juice your government name?" Ronnie asked, nearly making Juice spit out his drink. He coughed and began to laugh, while Ronnie just grinned at him. "Nah,' he said, clearing his throat still. "My mom called me Juan Carlos." Ronnie nodded. "Cool. Juan Carlos," she bumped her knee against his. He felt himself starting to lean closer to her, elated when he noticed she moved an inch too. Breaking their stare, she looked down at her beer and Juice began to miss the way she looked into his eyes.
"So you mentioned your dad. He live around here?" Juice asked. Ronnie sighed, shuffling uncomfortably in her seat. Maybe the truth was going to come out sooner, rather than later. "Yeah. My dad and my brother," she disclosed. Juice's eyebrows rose in surprise. "My mom doesn't live here. Her and my dad split up years ago," Ronnie wasn't sure why she was sharing that bit of information. She just felt at ease with Juice. She was worried this hang out was going to be awkward but, she was comfortable. There was no pressure. They were just
talking. She was anxious now, that telling Juice about Piney and Opie would push him away. And she didn't want him to go away. Not yet, anyways. "You grew up in Charming?" Juice asked, placing his empty bottle on the coffee table. Ronnie nodded, placing hers down too. Juice pulled a leg up onto the couch, leaning his arm against the back of it and turning towards Ronnie completely.
Ronnie mirrored him, and felt herself getting drawn towards him again. She nodded. "Yeah I did. I take it you didn't?" she asked. "I'm sure we would of met before if that was the case. Small town and all." Juice shook his head. "Nah, I'm from New York. Came to Charming a couple years ago. Prospected for the club. The rest is history," Juice explained. "Do you ever go back to New York?" Ronnie asked. "Nope," Juice's fingers tapped against his knee, slowly inching towards hers. "Nothing left there for me," he said on a shrug. He placed his warm, rough hand against her knee and she flushed when her skin immediately erupted with goosebumps. "Is this ok?" he asked, brushing his thumb back and forth. Ronnie only nodded, exhaling shakily as she felt herself moving towards him again, closer still. Any anxiety about her family ebbed away, Juice's eyes flickered between her lips and her eyes.
"Something about you, Ronnie," Juice admitted, nearly whispering as he raised his hand to her face. He grasped her cheek lightly, his fingers slipping around her ear and into her hair. His brain was begging him to shut up, but his traitorous dick was forcing him to speak. "Hardly know you, and I can't get enough." His pulse thundered as her eyes fluttered close. He leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss against the corner of her mouth, his pants beginning to feel tight at the soft sigh she let out. "Is this ok, too?" he asked. Ronnie opened her eyes, and Juice gulped at the lust he saw there. Suddenly, she grabbed the front of his cut and pulled his mouth to hers. Juice groaned as they kissed, grasping her hair a little tighter, his other hand moving to grip her thigh. She moaned and Juice slipped his tongue into her mouth, grabbing her waist and pulling her to straddle him on the couch. Her kiss was luxurious and addictive, the beer on her tongue mixed with her own taste driving him crazy. He roamed her hands from his cut up his neck, resting on his cheeks before she ran a hand over his head, tracing his mohawk. She continued to lick into his mouth and he welcomed it, meeting her stroke for stroke. He gripped her lush hips, starting to bunch the bottom of her shirt up when Ronnie suddenly pulled away, the sound of an approaching motorcycle sending her into a panic.
"Shit sorry, was that too much?" he asked, as she pulled herself off of his lap. Ronnie was shaking her head and standing up. It seemed he hadn’t heard the bike pull up out the front. "Listen, Juice, there's something I've been meaning to tell you," Ronnie panted, straightening her hair and her shirt.  "What?" he asked, walking over to grasp her hips and pull her towards him again. "We're just having fun aren't we, baby? Can't be that serious," he kissed along the column of her throat and she shivered against him. "I'm serious," she tried to push him off her, but him calling her baby had nearly sent her to the floor. How had it become so intense so quickly? Finally she managed to get him off her and she grasped his face in her hands. He smiled, his lips glistening. She groaned, and forced him back. "I'm really sorry about what's about to happen," she said, and suddenly Juice pulled away completely, an eyebrow arching in confusion. A knock came at the door.
"Ronnie? You in there?" Piney's voice came through the door. Juice's stomach bottomed out. "Piney?" he mouthed at her. "I'm so sorry," she mouthed back before she turned to the door and opened it. "Hey, dad," she said to the old man. Juice's blood ran cold, his heart seeming to stop completely. Dad? Piney looked down at his daughter with a smile before his eyes found Juice. "Saw a bike out the front," Piney jabbed a thumb over his shoulder. "I see you've met my daughter." Juice felt like a naughty child who had been caught doing something he shouldn’t be. His stomach soured as embarrassment trickled over him. He respected Piney immensely and Opie too, and now he felt like he had shit where he ate. He cleared his throat and tried to plaster on a calm smile, hoping that Piney wasn't making assumptions about what he and his daughter had been doing only minutes before. "I was just heading out actually," he straightened his cut and started out the door. "I'll see you later Ronnie," he said half-heartedly. "Wait, Juice," she followed him, grabbing his wrist. "Juice, I'm sorry. I was going to tell you I swear," she held him with a pleading stare. He just shook his head and stepped out of her grasp. "It's ok Ronnie, I'll call you later." Her brow furrowed, almost with sadness, but Juice just turned around, got on his bike, and rode away.
-------------------------------------------------
The next day, Ronnie stood in the elevator at St Thomas on her way up to the nurses office again. Another issue with paperwork. Her mind was still reeling after what had happened with Juice the day before. Piney was hardly phased by the situation. "He's an idiot, but you could do worse. Just don’t make shit messy for me and your brother," was all he had said to Ronnie before they had both happily changed the subject. She had tried to call Juice later that night, shaken by how the situation had seemed to upset him. But he hadn’t answered. She felt sad. She wasn't sure why. This thing with Juice was so new, but she was dejected that it could potentially be over already. Passing off the paperwork to the head nurse on duty she decided to take a walk around to the NICU. She had been passing through every so often when she got a chance to look in on Abel, sometimes running into Gemma there. She approached the room he was being kept in and saw Tara standing outside.
She hadn’t seen Tara since their last run in and was beginning to consider turning around and heading back the way she came, but it was too late. Tara heard her footsteps and turned her way. Ronnie gave an awkward smile and stepped closer. "Ronnie, hey," Tara breathed, looking at her shoes. "Hey Tara," Ronnie looked inside the window and saw Jax looking over his son, Gemma on the recliner behind him. He smiled at her. "Look Ronnie, I just wanted to apologise," Tara said, making Ronnie turn to her in surprise. "Oh
um, look you don’t have to," she said uncomfortably. She hadn’t expected this. Tara could be as stubborn and cold as her and Gemma at times, a reminder of just how close to their world she had been once upon a time. "I shouldn’t have said what I said to you. Gemma and I haven't had the smoothest relationship since I've been back and I guess seeing how close you are to her had me feeling a little
defensive," Tara admitted on a shrug. Ronnie shook her head. "Don't worry about it. But just so you know, whatever is happening between you and Gemma," she jerked her head towards the window. "I ain't touching that shit with a ten foot pole. That's your business. And she's aware of that too."
Tara only smiled and nodded before she opened the manila envelope in her hands, pulling something out. Ronnie could see from the other side that it looked like a photo of something, but she couldn’t tell what. Tara's face dropped. "What is it?" Ronnie asked. Tara jumped like she had forgotten Ronnie was there. Tara looked over at Jax, her face almost stricken. He just looked up and smiled at her. "Tara? Are you ok?" Ronnie asked again. Tara pulled a tight smile and nodded. "Yeah uh, just. Just work stuff. I'll see you later." She suddenly turned and walked away, leaving Ronnie with her head cocked in confusion. Shaking her head, she walked to the door and knocked lightly. Poking her head in she asked "can I come in?" Jax nodded and pulled her into a brief hug when she entered the room. "Hey darlin'," he said, looking back down at his son. "He is divine, Jackson," she said as she watched the tiny baby sleep. He bumped his shoulder with hers. "Yeah, takes after his old man," he laughed. "Heard you and Ope got some shit to sort out," he mumbled, not taking his eyes off the incubator.
Ronnie sighed. "Yep. Stubborn asshole. One of the worse Winston traits," she muttered. "There are good ones?" Jax teased, laughing when Ronnie backhanded his chest lightly. "Can you say something to him? Or give him a Valium or something?" she pleaded, landing him with her puppy dog eyes that she would use on him and Opie when she was little. He laughed and shook his head. "Nah I ain't going anywhere near that. He'll come around. Still getting used to being out, ya know." Ronnie nodded. "Alright, I gotta head out," Jax wrapped an arm around her shoulders and squeezed lightly before going to Gemma and kissing her cheek. He left the room and Ronnie walked over to Gemma, leaning against the side of the chair. "He should have ended up with you. Would have saved him a lot of shit," Gemma murmured, placing her hand in Ronnie's. "Both of your fathers would agree with me." Ronnie screwed her face up in disgust. "Gemma, Jax is like my brother. No way would that have ever happened," she pointed out.
"Yeah well
a mother can dream," Gemma mused. Ronnie didn’t reply, just watched tiny Abel breathing slowly. "You ok, sweetheart?" Gemma asked, squeezing her hand gently. Ronnie sighed and closed her eyes. "I think I have a crush, Gemma," she admitted. Gemma hummed in contemplation. "What's wrong with that baby?" she asked. "I think I've fucked it up already. My last name scared him away," Ronnie said. "Well, if he's the real deal he won’t give a shit that you're a Winston. If he's a little bitch who can’t handle who you are well then," she scoffed. "You don't want him, do ya?" Ronnie smiled sadly. "I gotta get back to work. See you later, Gem," she bent and kissed the older womans cheek. Gemma patted her arm. "Come around for dinner sometime, baby. Don’t be a stranger."
-------------------------------------------------
Ronnie walked out of the entrance doors of St Thomas stifling a yawn. She pulled her phone out of her bag, hoping there would be a text or missed call from Juice. Her heart sank when there wasn't. She put her phone back in her bag, and began walking down the stairs, her steps faltering when she spotted a familiar bronze chevvy parked right next to her SUV. Doing a double take, her heart skipped a beat when she spotted him in the front seat. His windows were down and he was staring straight at her. He waved mockingly, chewing his gum. Tearing her eyes from him she made a beeline for her car, pretending he didn’t exist and that she definitely hadn’t seen him. "Ronnieeeeee," he sang tauntingly from the drivers side. She continued to ignore him. "You're lookin' real good, Ronnie," he hummed, laughing softly. Her skin began to crawl as she finally pulled her door open and got in the car. Her heart was pounding as she pulled out of the parking lot, frantically checking her mirror as she saw him pull out and begin to follow her.
She had turned to take the drive to her house but now pulled a sharp right turn, heading towards the TM garage. He continued to follow her and then about two blocks from the clubhouse he pulled off, waving at her out his window as he did so. Ronnie didn’t change course. Who knew if he would pop up again and follow her home. She was too scared to be alone now anyway. Pulling into the parking lot in a frenzy she stopped the car and threw open the door, immediately sprinting into the clubhouse. There seemed to be a small gathering happening, a number of members were milling around the tables with beers and spirits in their hands, sweetbutts and hang arounds socialising among them. Opie spotted his sister and stood up, grabbing her as she ran into the room. "Ronnie? What's wrong?" Ronnie's lungs burned as she began to shake, panic completely setting in. "Sit down, Ronnie, come here," Opie led his sister over to a vacant chair. Ronnie's breathing began to shallow out, her head spinning. Opie crouched in front of his little sister, running his hands up and down her arms, trying to get her to focus on him.
Piney stood and moved to stand behind his daughter, placing a heavy hand on her shoulder. "Breathe, Veronica," Opie said, following her breaths as she began to calm herself a little. "Everyone out," she heard a voice, who she recognised as Tig, call out. The sweetbutts and hang arounds moved to the exit, griping about their party being cut short. The club members stayed back, watching the scene unfold in front of them. Ronnie slowed her breathing, but suddenly the tears came. She turned her face into her shoulder, embarrassed to be crying in front of the club. "What happened?" Opie ground out, his face furious. Ronnie shook her head, wiping quickly at her eyes. "Don’t want you to do anything stupid, Ope," she trembled. "You just got out. You do something dumb, and you'll be back inside again. Don’t do that to Donna and the kids," she agonized. Opie clenched his jaw, stopping just short of shaking his sister. "Tell. Me. What. Happened," he demanded. Ronnie sighed and hung her head. "It's Mark," she said, nearly in a whisper. "He knows I'm back."

Jane ‘Mute’ Hall and John ‘Ramble’ De Luca otherwise known as ‘The Does’. They had known each other since the academy. Becoming a quick team on land and even quickier becoming a team in the skies. The two had been paired together since they graduated from the academy. They had gone through Top Gun together graduating at the top of their class. The pair had been on quite a handful of successful missions since then.
The two of them had been called in to their superiors office back in Virginia two weeks ago. They had been told that they would be moving out to Fightertown, California to join The Dagger Squad permanently.
John had been talking Jane's ear off about how excited he was to be in the infamous Dagger Squad. There had been whispers and rumors of the uranium mission they had gone on. Most of the details were classified so no one truly knew what happened. Everyone just knew that they were the best of the best and it had been proven on that mission.
Jane had been nervous knowing the squad had been together for a few months. They were all older than the duo, they had all made a name for themselves amongst the Navy. Jane wasn’t sure how her and her back seater John would fit in.
John hadn’t been nervous at all; he had known the two were meant to be there. Had known there was no way they would’ve been sent there if they weren’t also the best of the best. He had tried to talk some sense into Jane but knew the attempts were futile. She had been the most stubborn person he had ever met.
đŸ â˜€ïžđŸ â˜€ïžđŸ â˜€ïžđŸ â˜€ïž
The move had been easy. They had already lived together in a small apartment in Virginia with a month to month lease. It had been a breeze to find a home in California near base. It had 3 floors. 3 bedrooms with bathrooms attached to all on the top floor. A half bath, living room, kitchen and dining room were all on the main floor. The bottom floor was a finished basement with a bar, half bath and big open space. They sold what they couldn’t fit in the tiny U-Haul trailer and John’s newer Ford Bronco.
It took them a day and a half to make it cross country. Leaving Friday night after work. Continued swapping of drivers made it a quick trip. Only stopping for bathroom breaks, occasional meals and gas. They had gotten to Fightertown early Sunday.
They made a trip to the grocery store and IKEA after unpacking everything from the trailer and the bronco. They got 2 bed frames, 2 bed side tables, a coffee table and a small kitchen table with 4 chairs. They ordered a couch, tv and tv stand for the living room that was estimated to be in within the next week. They were still debating on what to get for the basement and decided they would figure it out over the next couple of weeks or months.
It was easy for them to get everything put together and unpacked as they worked well together in the skies and on land. Jane had made quick work of getting the bedroom furniture together. John had worked on the coffee table, kitchen table and chairs. They worked together to get the mattresses on the bed frames and then decided to eat dinner and make some cookies for the squad they were meeting the next day. Together they made chocolate chip, snickerdoodles, oatmeal raisin and peanut butter. They had hoped everyone would at least have something that they would like if they made so many.
After cleaning up the mess which involved John flinging flour all over Jane and her doing the same to him until they were both on the floor a giggling mess. Once they actually cleaned up and showered they made their way to their rooms. Jane shouted out a good night to John and he did the same.
John had laid in bed for a while staring up at the ceiling thinking about the early morning they had tomorrow. He thought about his best friend in the room across the hall from him.
He knew she was struggling with the idea of them being in the best aviator team the navy had. She didn’t think that they deserved the spot and was worried about fitting in. He hoped and begged whatever force out there that they would find a home here. Jane needed a family beyond him. His thoughts slowly drifted until he fell asleep.
Jane tossed and turned in bed that night. The nerves finally took over her body in a tight uncomfortable hug. She knew that they would be meeting the team tomorrow and she wasn’t sure she was prepared. She hoped and begged that they would settle in nicely. Knowing John would be there every step of the way eased enough tension she finally felt she could breathe and she slowly fell into a soft slumber.
A/N:This chapter is super super short. But I’m to excited for this series to hold back any longer. This isn’t much but I wanted everyone to get to know Jane and John a little bit before starting the series. If anyone would like tagged in this series please feel free to let me know!

Namibia - On the Move
May 19, 2024
Seb got up at 5:00 AM to visit Bruce again at the solar observatory. He was perched on a bench (asleep?) but seemingly happy to have company. His most powerful telescope was misbehaving, so we first looked through the other two. He tried to convince Sarah that she could simply look at his insta site, but it’s not the same, so he kept at it until the good one found Saturn and focused. Pretty dang cool to see the ring(s), and also a glimpse of an unfocused red Mars. Bruce muttered on about galaxies and nebulas and a bunch of stuff that Sarah frankly didn’t understand, but without the moon, she enjoyed the spectacular sky, complete with two shooting stars, the Milky Way, Sagittarius and a few other things she could marginally appreciate! Back at the room, Jill’s alarm had just gone off, so Sarah convinced her to turn off all the lights and look at the sky out by the pool. The Milky Way visible to the naked eye.
We finished packing and headed to breakfast in the lounge. Yum - a seemingly wholesome bowl, kombucha concoction (for gut health, as if that’s a priority here), cappuccino, coffee, and other treats. As usual, different light on the horizon for a new and wonderful look at the same view. We saw Ty and Idea one last time, said farewell to our hosts and jumped into a vehicle with Lance and Rebecca. The airports in Namibia are basically a few tents for shelter while waiting, a loo, and an area to keep fuel for the planes - not fancy! Our ginormous plane (ha - seats twelve, plus pilot and co-pilot, which is not part of the team) was there; we waited for a few other passengers and headed northwest. The views were amazing. First, the red dunes as far as one could see. Then a river bed that delineated where the dunes changed from red sand to white (well, tan). The textures and subtle color changes were only outdone by the change from dunes to flat(ish) sand to rough, sandy areas to mountains that were almost black. Our first pilot had made a comment that Namibia has many “table mountains” and true to her word, we passed over an area that was all about flat-topped mountains.
Our first flight had a stopover in Swalopmund where we swapped out a few passengers and refueled, then onto Doro Nawas. It was totally fun, when we landed to see our first Namibia pilot who remembered our names. (Ah, it’s the little things that make an impression). Most passengers boarded vehicles, but we had our third flight of the day to the camp’s airstrip. This flight was on a miniature (4-6 seater) Cessna. Max, our guide for the three days we’re at the Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, met us as we got off the flight, collected our bags, and drove us the 25 min or so to our new home. The terrain here is still desert, but oh so different from Soussusvlei. It’s scruffier, rougher, with small, rocky hills dotting the landscape.
We arrived at camp to the staff singing a welcome song. They greeted us with the traditional cold, wet towels and fresh drink (lemonade in this case). We went in, met a bunch of staff, and got the overview of the lodge. It’s seriously hot here, reportedly 97 degrees today. But in WDC, it would be unbearable, here it’s simply hot. It’s a tented camp, not even close to the opulence of the &Beyond lodge, but really charming. We are admittedly a bit concerned that there’s no A/C - will see how that works out. We’re told that the winds usually come from the west (Atlantic) but for the last five days and at least the next few, they’re from the east, bringing hot air. Oh well, Mother Nature (and maybe climate change?) at work. We opted for lunch before going to our room. Yummy.
Our room/tent here is the closest one on one side of the lodge. It’s super nice, albeit more simple than the last place. But it’s well designed, with a nice view toward the watering hole for local creatures, good storage for two, plugs and WiFi (again only in the room, not in the common areas), a patio with lounge chairs and table, and a good bathroom with double sinks. Can’t really ask for more! We settled in quickly and then each took naps, it having been a short night. Tea at 4:30 PM (or “sweet and savory” as they dubbed it) was nice with more lemonade and we met our vehicle companions for the next few days, Robert and Jo. They’re super nice, which bodes well for a good time with Max. Off we went for our first game ride. Driving out of camp each of us admitted later that we had the lowest expectations ever for a game drive. We’re in the desert, with almost nothing green, loads of sand and rock, and not a creature in sight (except the flies and moths at lunch). Hurrah for being wrong!! Our first sighting was a baby giraffe. Sooooooooooo adorable. He was alone, very much blended into the background with very pale markings, and well, we all swooned. On we went and saw oryxes and springboks (hanging together), a few interesting birds, another large giraffe, and some baboons. The highlight was when we found Charlie leading Obi back toward camp. There are four lions on this private concession,3 sisters (Alpha, Beta and Charlie) and Obi, a male who was causing trouble in another area and re-located before locals took matters into their own hands, which would not be a good outcome for Obi. Now, he now has the choice of three girls. Not bad. Charlie is his favorite - for now. Charlie in the lead, we tracked them for a while. Stunning creatures, both; they’re hungry and on the hunt (watch out baby giraffe!). Such majestic presence. Max was great tracking, explaining, finding us good photo and viewing opportunities, and generally making sure our experience was fab. Indeed it was.
Back at camp, we were greated with our drink of choice (called in by Max as we approached camp) and enjoyed it at the firepit. There are only eight guests in camp today, and the staff moved the tables to the lounge area patio. It had cooled just enough to make dining al fresco very comfortable. Dinner, of course, was delicious: broccoli tempura as appetizer and a pork dish for the main course. The staff is quite attentive to Jill’s dairy limitation, and offered alternatives as needed. Mango sorbet was a perfect replacement on this warm night.

Day 4: "You haven't told her yet? A!"
Well damn that was quick, I broke the whole one fic a day rule but honestly? Not mad about it. Shit happens, I'm just going to post a fic on New Year's Day instead of pushing myself to do two fics for today. I'm also working tonight so I don't have a ton of time?
This fic was requested, but I kind of played with the request a little. You'll see what I mean.
Warnings: Rooster being unable to practise self control in regards to dairy (no emeto scenes)
“Rooster, you live up to your callsign yet again.”
“Mav, I’m not late; everyone else is just early.”
Maverick pulled away from their hug, raising an eyebrow. “Where did you get that from?”
“Hangman says it all the time-“
“It’s Princess Diaries.”
The two men whirled around to find Amelia standing behind Maverick in the hallway, arms crossed over her chest. She stepped around her stepfather to sock Rooster in the arm, and then hugged him.
“Missed you,” she whispered into his shirt. He awkwardly patted her back, glancing up at Maverick in confusion.
“I was only gone a couple months.”
“Six, Roos,” Maverick reminded him gently, “six months is a long time for us at home.”
Considering he’d been deployed to buttfuck, nowhere, USA for that time, he did have a great sunglasses tan and a couple new freckles. Maverick hadn’t been allowed to know where he was but Rooster didn’t look particularly bothered. He shrugged, hugging Amelia right back.
“No deaths and the only injury I got was a leg cramp from sitting at a desk all day.”
She rolled her eyes, going back inside.
“Daggers! Rooster’s back!”
Rooster and Maverick heard them barrelling into the entryway of Penny and Maverick’s house. Phoenix got to him first, smaller than the others and she held out her hand.
“Five bucks, please. Hangman has been insufferable the whole time you were gone.”
He groaned while Hangman complained in the background, the others laughing.
“Just in time for lunch, Bradley. How are you?”
Penny emerged from the group, extending her arms out to him. He’d been without a mother figure for almost twenty years and Penny continued to insist she wasn’t ever going to be able to replace Carole, but he found himself calling her for maternal advice where he least expected it.
Penny ran a hand over his arm, stepping back to let him in.
“I’m good, Penny, thanks for having me.”
“Bradley you’re a part of this family as much as Pete is. You’ll always be welcome.”
Amelia, usually a disinterested seventeen year old, tugged at Rooster’s arm.
“We were just about to start presents but mom said she wanted to wait another twenty minutes.”
“She’s psychic,” Bob smiled, nudging Phoenix’s arm. She was quick to jab him in the ribs in retaliation, everyone heading into the living room.
-
The group gathered at the dining table, easily taking up Penny’s small 4-seater and the additional table that had been pulled in from outside. Rooster reached for the mac and cheese, only to have his hand smacked away by Penny.
“I’ve been informed about your intolerance for milk. Try the broccoli.”
“How- Mav, I told you, it’s not serious.”
“Bradley, you eat that mac and I am not responsible for the consequences,” Maverick replied, already reaching for the mac and cheese himself. It got passed over to Fanboy after, at the other end of the table to Rooster. He and Payback made quick work of dispensing most of it between the two of them. Bob got the last little bit then handed the spoon to Hangman to lick it clean. Amelia watched the whole thing, brows furrowing together as she looked between Maverick and Rooster.
“You’re lactose intolerant?”
“No, I can have a little milk and cheese-“
“-you have milk in your coffee right now, dude,” Phoenix reminded him. Rooster shrugged.
“So?”
“For the sake of my bathroom, Bradley, no,” Maverick sighed. Rooster’s hands clenched on the table as he swallowed a frustrated noise, Hangman putting a hand on his shoulder.
“Down boy, we’re just making sure you don’t spend the rest of Christmas in the bathroom on your knees- wait, not like that-“
Amelia stifled a laugh into her napkin and Maverick smacked a hand over Hangman’s mouth, sighing.
“You had one job, Seresin. You’re officially uninvited next year.”
“Sucks,” Hangman deadpanned. Rooster huffed, holding out his hand for the last of the mac and cheese.
“Give it here.”
Finally, Coyote caved.
“What? A little cheese never hurt anybody.”
“Yeah, it did. It clearly hurt Mav,” Bob commented. Phoenix buried her face in her palms.
“Happy holidays, you idiots,” she huffed. Amelia burst out laughing and Maverick rolled his eyes.
“Go get dessert, Amelia, and stop encouraging Bradley.”
-
Sure enough, it might have only been the scrapings of the mac and cheese and a couple cups of coffee, but Rooster was deep down reconsidering his choices by the time 5pm rolled around. Phoenix was in the kitchen wrapping a gift that had just been dropped off by Amazon at the last second; Rooster was laid out on the couch, feet tossed over Hangman’s lap and head on one of Penny’s throw pillows. She was watching on in amusement, glancing over at her husband.
“You weren’t wrong; he’s really lactose intolerant.”
“Comes from years of dairy substitutes. Do you know how expensive they were when he was a kid? I had to go to three different stores to find them!”
“In the, what, 1800’s? Were they even available back then?”
Penny nudged Amelia with the look only a parent can master, the Daggers stifling laughter amongst themselves. Phoenix trotted back into the room, dropping the wrapped gift on Rooster’s (admittedly sensitive) stomach. He began unwrapping it and paused.
“Wow, Phoenix, thanks,” he said dryly. When everyone frowned, he held up the little container of tums and everyone laughed, Maverick reaching over to ruffle Rooster’s hair.
“And to think you weren’t going to make it home for Christmas,” Amelia grinned. Maverick fixed Penny with a look.
“You haven’t told her yet? Penny!”
“Rooster was always going to be home for Christmas, Amelia. Beau Simpson might think Maverick is an asshole but he still has a soft spot for me. A couple quiet words, a little blackmail and Bradley Bradshaw was on the last flight home before Christmas.”
Amelia blinked.
“He was... always going to be...”
“Oh, man, I’ll be back.”
Rooster hauled ass off Hangman’s lap toward the bathroom and Penny scrunched her nose while Maverick facepalmed.
“Merry Christmas! Shitter’s full!” Fanboy grinned.
A pregnant silence.
“National Lampoon’s?”
Even Bob slowly shook his head in confusion. Fanboy huffed.
“You’re all uncultured.”

4 November 1917, Sunday morning
Good morning, my dear heart! Yesterday was a happy day for me: the first letter from my Annamarie that says "Du". But I've been thinking of you for a long time with "Du", actually from the beginning. So now you have the difficult mission with your parents behind you. May they have accepted everything with a loving heart! I have every confidence that your mother will help us in everything. Tomorrow I reckon I'll probably get a greeting from you at HubertusmĂŒhle. It's an awfully long time, having to wait four days before I find out what you've experienced! Good thing the war isn't in Africa! We had to wait three weeks from one post to the next. When the black messenger, who ran the 30 kilometers from Wilhelmsthal in three hours, dumped his mailbag, he was the focus of all the white ghosts at that moment, and five minutes later everyone was sitting in a corner reading. One more thing, my dear! If you really don't receive a greeting from me for a few days, you know that all sorts of coincidences and obstacles can occur at the field post. Yesterday, for example, our motorcyclist, who takes the post to the next field post office, fell over halfway - that's a whole day's delay. Don't be surprised if my letters are often a bit choppy - I can only rarely write in one piece. Your friends at work are real rascals for teasing you so much about the mysterious lieutenant's visit. But their congratulations for me are well and nice - so say hello to them for me and I wouldn't miss a next opportunity to introduce myself. Yesterday I got a very appreciable addition to my squadron: the Bavarian Lieutenant Max MĂŒller, who with 31 victories is now in second place (after Richthofen) among the living aviators. He was part of our squadron a year ago, but then spent the summer with another one. Now I have to tell you about my twenty-first. I had been at the front with my squadron without any particular events and I changed way on the flight home to visit Richthofen, whom I had not spoken to for several weeks. After a little coffee and chat, I flew home, but before I landed I saw that my comrades were already on the move again, so I flew back to the front, where I soon found them. High above us was a whole wing of English single-seater fighters. We tried to climb as fast as we could. Since I'd used up most of the fuel on the first flight, my plane felt pretty light and climbed like Charlemagne. After a short time I was far ahead of my companions and always drew the same line with the Englishmen who were flying even higher, so I kept an eye on them all the time. Until finally one of them came up with the insipid idea of attacking me from above. I made the first attack ineffective by flying quickly towards him, so he quickly pulled his machine up again and was immediately about 200 meters above me - he was flying the latest type with a very powerful motor. From then on he made four or five more shy attempts to attack, but each time I was right under him and he couldn't get a shot. He had gradually lost height, and at a favorable moment I was able to turn the tables - now he's resting in the ground, the stupid fellow! The whole affair lasted around five minutes. Of course, it couldn't have lasted any longer, because I came home without any petrol at all. In the meantime they had thrown bombs here, but only made holes in the surrounding fields. This morning it's dense fog, so I'll get to work on my writing business - lately everything rhymes with Annamarie for me. How I long for you!

New Home Furniture - Select Cautiously
Perhaps of the best thing in life is picking new furniture. The type of furniture you pick says a ton regarding you personally. You can change a plain home into one that is inviting and warm. Your preferences will impact the type of furniture you buy. Some of you will need to every now and again change your furniture. Others are glad to live with similar furniture for quite a long time. Your financial plan will for the most part figure out what you can buy yet today there is an abundance of styles, colors, woods and fabrics to suit all spending plans. When in doubt, the click here more costly the furniture the more it will endure yet this doesn't always apply.
Assuming you have small kids you will probably require hearty furniture that will stand up to mileage. Then again, retirees are many times in a situation to enjoy their love of fine, gently developed furniture. Assuming that you loathe classical or traditional furniture you might well prefer modern, contemporary styles or settle on the moderate look. The people who despise propagation furniture frequently have a love for the genuine article, that is to say, old fashioned furniture which accompanies an exorbitant cost tag.
Anything your preference, whether it's mahogany, limed oak, yew, pine, cherry wood, teak or glass, your decision will frequently mirror your singularity. It demonstrates that you are making an assertion about yourself.
Anything that you choose to buy can make your home look smaller or bigger which is in many cases worth remembering. This doesn't exactly make any difference except if you have small rooms, in which case the lighter the color of furniture and furnishings the better, as these assistance to make the room look bigger.
Buying furniture gives me a buzz especially while buying sofas as well as armchairs. There are such countless styles, fabrics and colors it can some of the time feel somewhat overpowering. Do you need plain, designed, striped, blossomed, velvet, silk, tweed, cotton, leather or chintz fabric? On the other hand do you need a 2, 3, 4 seater or corner sofa? Maybe you'd prefer two sofas and no armchairs or a mix of both. When those choices have been created you can then think about the style you need - ie traditional, modern, ranch style home style and so forth. Right now you're nearly there ! This is my main thing - really getting to pick the furniture in the wake of really thinking about it so !
You'll then, at that point, need to focus on other furniture, for example, coffee tables, intermittent tables, light tables and perhaps reflects.
Your initial selection of sofas or potentially armchairs will impressively affect the rest of the furniture you decide for the parlor. You'll most likely maintain that these different pieces should complete one another which can be fun and entrancing to orchestrate. On the off chance that your parlor is small, glass beat coffee, periodic and light tables will give a sensation of space and light to the room however can look similarly dazzling in a lot bigger rooms. Specifically, glass finished off incidental tables with metal legs normally look very great with most furniture.
Next might need to think about furniture for your dining room. Once more, the style of your home will impact your choice. In the event that you believe your dining room should look exquisite you'll probably consider a classic, profoundly cleaned dining table and matching chairs. For a more 'homely' look pine might be your decision. Assuming your dining room is enormous you'll need matching dressers or corner tables to finish the image.
Your following concern will probably be the kitchen. Most are totally fitted nowadays so you may just have to buy a kitchen table and chairs. The current units and ledges are for the most part a decent sign of the type of kitchen table you want which helps impressively while making a decision. You'll find the reach is tremendous !
Presently it's on to the bedrooms where you can allow your creative mind to roam free ! Your most memorable undertaking will comprise of choosing the beds assuming you're furnishing throughout. I'm sure you know the bedding is the main buy while making up your brain. This is one thing which truly merits spending however much you can bear for clear reasons. The better the sleeping cushion the more comfortable it will be and the more it will endure. The style of bed you pick will be private which shouldn't present an issue as this limits the decision enormously.

From Concept to Comfort: The Journey of Designing a Perfect Living Room
Designing the perfect living room is more than just about selecting furniture—it’s about creating a space that reflects your personality, serves your daily needs, and provides comfort and style. At Mayankot Furniture, we believe the journey to the ideal living room is both exciting and rewarding, and we’re here to guide you through each step of the process.
Step 1: Define Your Vision
Before you even start shopping for furniture, take some time to envision the overall mood and purpose of your living room. Ask yourself these questions:
What atmosphere do I want to create? Are you looking for a cozy, relaxing space or a vibrant, dynamic area for entertaining?
How do I plan to use the space? Will it be a family gathering spot, a place to watch movies, or a serene reading nook?
What styles appeal to me? Do you gravitate toward modern minimalism, classic elegance, rustic charm, or eclectic blends?
Understanding your vision is the first step to making thoughtful choices about furniture, colors, and accessories. At Mayankot Furniture, we offer a wide variety of styles—from timeless designs to contemporary pieces—so you can find what best suits your tastes.
Step 2: Focus on Layout and Functionality
Once you have a sense of your style, it's time to consider the layout. The right furniture arrangement can make all the difference in how your living room feels and functions. Here are a few tips:
Create Zones: If your living room is spacious, consider creating zones for different activities. A seating area for conversation, a media area for the TV, and perhaps a reading corner can help define the space.
Flow and Movement: Ensure that there is enough space for movement. Avoid overcrowding the room with too many large pieces. Leave room for people to move around comfortably.
Focal Point: Every living room should have a focal point—be it a fireplace, a large window with a great view, or an entertainment system. Arrange furniture to complement this feature.
At Mayankot Furniture, we provide detailed product dimensions and expert recommendations to help you optimize your living room layout.
Step 3: Select Key Furniture Pieces
Now comes the fun part—choosing the furniture! Your living room will need several key pieces, including a sofa, coffee table, and seating options like chairs or ottomans. Here's how to make smart choices:
Sofa: The sofa is often the centerpiece of the living room. Look for a piece that combines comfort and style. Whether you prefer a sectional, a classic three-seater, or a modern loveseat, ensure it provides ample seating for your needs.
Coffee Table: A coffee table can tie the room together. Choose one that suits your style—wooden, glass, or metal—and complements the colors and materials of the sofa.
Storage Solutions: Consider furniture that doubles as storage. Storage ottomans, sideboards, and bookshelves not only enhance the design but also keep the space clutter-free.
At Mayankot, we offer a range of versatile furniture that blends form and function. Whether you're looking for an elegant leather sofa or a sturdy wooden coffee table, our curated selection is designed to meet your needs.
Step 4: Play with Colors and Textures
The right color palette sets the tone for your living room. While neutral shades like beige, gray, and white create a calm, timeless foundation, pops of color can infuse energy into the space. Consider these color combinations:
Neutral tones with bold accents: For a balanced look, use neutral shades for the large furniture pieces and add colorful throw pillows, rugs, or artwork to introduce personality.
Monochromatic palettes: If you prefer a modern aesthetic, try shades of the same color to create a clean, streamlined feel.
Warm vs. Cool: Warm tones like deep reds, oranges, and browns create a cozy atmosphere, while cool blues and greens bring a sense of calm and tranquility.
Textures also play a key role in elevating the space. Combine different materials—soft velvet cushions, sleek leather chairs, and woven wicker baskets—to create visual interest and tactile comfort.
Step 5: Personalize with Accessories
Once your core furniture pieces are in place, it's time to add the finishing touches that make the room truly yours. Personalizing your space with accessories gives it warmth and character. Here are some ideas:
Artwork and Wall Decor: Choose art that resonates with your style—whether it's modern prints, vintage pieces, or family photographs.
Rugs: A rug can anchor the room, define zones, and add softness underfoot. Go for a design that complements your furniture and color scheme.
Lighting: Layer your lighting with a mix of ambient, task, and accent lights. Statement lamps, floor lamps, and pendant lights can transform the space and highlight your furniture.
Throw Blankets & Pillows: Add cozy textures and pops of color with throws and cushions. They’re easy to change out with the seasons.
Step 6: Comfort is Key
No matter how stylish the room looks, your living room needs to be a comfortable place to relax. Look for furniture with ergonomic designs that support you throughout the day, from the perfect sofa for lounging to chairs that encourage relaxation.
Quality materials and craftsmanship are essential for long-lasting comfort. At Mayankot Furniture, we prioritize comfort as much as aesthetics. Our furniture is built with durable materials and carefully selected upholstery options to ensure that your living room remains both stylish and cozy for years to come.
Final Thoughts: Your Perfect Living Room Awaits
Designing your living room is a journey—a process of discovering what works best for your space, style, and lifestyle. At Mayankot Furniture, we’re here to help you every step of the way, from the initial concept to the final touches. Whether you're upgrading your furniture or starting from scratch, our curated collection offers the perfect pieces to bring your vision to life.

Your Dream Garden: Top Lawn Furniture Options for Delhi Homes
Creating a functional and inviting outdoor area begins with selecting the right lawn furniture. In cities like Delhi, having outdoor furniture transforms balconies, gardens, and terraces into welcoming spots to relax. High-quality pieces make it easy to unwind in your yard, away from the city’s busy pace.
Tumblr media
This guide will cover some of the most popular types of lawn furniture, from sturdy lawn benches to luxurious sofa sets, to help you set up a perfect outdoor area at home. Let’s look at the types of lawn furniture best suited for Delhi’s unique conditions.
1. Lawn Benches
Lawn benches offer classic seating for any garden or lawn. They are versatile, suitable for small nooks or larger gardens, and sturdy enough for two or more people to sit. Many lawn benches come in weather-resistant materials like wood, metal, or synthetic wood. For Delhi’s climate, coated metal or treated wood is a good choice because it resists both heat and rain.
Benches vary widely in design, from traditional wooden styles to modern, minimalist looks. Adding comfortable cushions can make them cozier for longer periods of lounging. Placing a bench in a shaded area with a view of greenery can create a peaceful outdoor retreat, perfect for reading or relaxing.
2. Chairs
Lawn chairs are a must-have for any lawn or patio. Lightweight yet durable, these chairs are easy to rearrange depending on your layout and needs. Options include recliners for lounging in the sun or upright chairs that work well for social gatherings or dining setups.
In Delhi, materials like aluminum and synthetic rattan are practical choices for outdoor chairs. These materials handle sun and rain well, and chairs with removable cushions are especially useful since they’re easy to clean and store when not in use. By adding a few stylish chairs around a table or in a cozy corner, you can create a simple, comfortable space to enjoy your outdoor area.
3. Swings
Swings are a favorite in many gardens, adding a playful and cozy touch. A swing can turn a lawn into a more inviting space, and it can be the perfect place to relax on a breezy evening. Available in styles ranging from simple, single-seater designs to three-seaters with cushioned seats and sun canopies, swings come in various options to match different tastes.
Materials like metal and sturdy synthetic rattan are great choices for Delhi’s climate. A metal frame with weather-resistant fabric will last longer through the city’s weather changes, keeping your swing in good shape for years. Placing a swing in a shaded area or near flowerbeds can add to the charm, creating a calm spot to sit back and unwind.
4. Sofa Sets
Lawn sofa sets bring the feel of indoor comfort to the garden. These sets often include a sofa, armchairs, and a coffee table, allowing for a relaxed social setup. Lawn sofa sets make an ideal gathering place for family and friends, providing a comfortable seating arrangement with plenty of space.
For Delhi homes, where the weather varies widely, choosing materials like synthetic rattan or coated aluminum can be practical. These materials resist both rain and heat, so the sofa set won’t quickly wear out. Look for models with removable or washable cushion covers to keep maintenance simple. By arranging a Lawn sofa set with a few side tables, you create a space that’s perfect for morning tea, afternoon chats, or evening gatherings.
5. Dining Sets
Lawn dining sets make it easy to enjoy meals in the fresh air. They’re ideal for everything from family breakfasts to weekend barbecues. Dining sets come in various sizes, from compact two-seater setups for small patios to larger sets that can accommodate six or more people.
In Delhi, where summers can be hot and dusty, an aluminum dining set is a practical choice. Aluminum resists rust and is lightweight, so it’s easy to move around as needed. For extra comfort, you can add weatherproof cushions to the chairs and place a large umbrella nearby for shade. By setting up a dining set on your lawn or terrace, you create a spot for outdoor meals and gatherings, letting you make the most of pleasant days.
6. Lawn Aluminum Furniture
Lawn Aluminum furniture stands out as a low-maintenance, durable choice for outdoor areas. Lightweight yet sturdy, aluminum doesn’t rust, making it ideal for Delhi’s fluctuating weather. Aluminum furniture comes in a variety of pieces, from single chairs and tables to complete sofa and dining sets.
This type of furniture is easy to rearrange, perfect for those who like to switch up their outdoor layout from time to time. With its sleek and modern appearance, aluminum furniture matches well with various styles and is resistant to both Delhi’s heat and seasonal rains. It’s an excellent option for anyone looking for a practical, attractive addition to their outdoor setup.
Tips for Selecting the Right Lawn Furniture in Delhi
When choosing lawn furniture in Delhi, a few important factors can help you make the right decision:
Weather Resistance: Delhi’s climate can be challenging, with hot summers and wet monsoons. Opt for materials like aluminum, treated wood, or synthetic rattan, which hold up well under different weather conditions.
Use and Purpose: Think about how you plan to use your outdoor space. If you’re aiming to create a quiet spot to read or relax, a swing or bench might be perfect. For social gatherings, consider a sofa set or a dining table with chairs.
Style and Decor: Select furniture that fits the overall look you want. If you prefer a modern vibe, aluminum or minimalist designs will work well. For a more rustic or classic look, wooden benches or wicker swings can add warmth to your space.
Ease of Maintenance: Delhi’s dust and seasonal rains mean it’s smart to go for furniture that’s easy to clean. Removable cushions or weather-resistant fabrics help maintain outdoor furniture, keeping it fresh even after exposure to harsh weather.
Where to Find Quality Lawn Furniture in Delhi
Delhi offers a wide range of stores that specialize in lawn furniture and outdoor furniture. From well-known retail stores to smaller specialty shops, you can find everything from simple garden benches to complete patio sets. Some stores even provide customization options, so you can pick out colors, materials, and designs that best fit your space.
Whether you’re buying in-store or ordering online, check out several options to compare styles, prices, and materials. Many stores in Delhi now offer delivery, so finding the right furniture for your garden, lawn, or balcony is more convenient than ever.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right lawn furniture lets you create an outdoor area that’s both comfortable and stylish. From swings to dining sets, each piece adds to your space’s appeal, allowing you to enjoy a bit of nature right at home. In a city like Delhi, where green spaces are precious, making the most of your lawn or terrace with quality outdoor furniture can create a calm and enjoyable retreat.
