Investigations 2 Introductory Description
This is the 36th post in the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection Countdown: 45 days left until release!
Today's topic: the Introductory Description of Investigations 2!
I ADORE the tagline they chose for this game aka the absolute best game in the series because yes, it absolutely is "a turnabout like no other"! Couldn't imagine something more fitting for this masterpiece! Nothing else in the series comes close, not only to how epic the story is but also to the level of deductions Miles operates on here. All of the cases are beyond amazing, cases 3, 4 and 5 would all be final cases in any other game, and the "mastermind" is the only character on par with Miles on pure wits alone. "A crisis like no other, a turnabout like no other." really encapsulates all of that.
Interestingly, the first part of the introduction is focused not on the story but on new mechanics and other new stuff that comes with the game. Of course, they have to mention this being Miles' 2nd solo game and then they mention new characters, a new gameplay mechanic in "Mind Chess" (or Logic Chess in the fan translation) and an expansion on the old gameplay mechanic "Little Thief" from Investigations 1. That's especially interesting since the introduction to Investigations 1 didn't mention that gameplay mechanic but rather focused on the change from courtroom to crime scene in general. It makes total sense to highlight these things, I just find it interesting. Maybe because the rest of the website doesn't talk about these so they thought they'd tease them in the description at least?
The latter half talks about Miles' character arc and his central decision over the course of the story. I love this as a focal point. It's a very natural question for his character to ponder considering he initially became a prosecutor because of the trauma from his father's death. Asking himself if and how he wants to continue this path or if he should rather switch back to following in his father's footsteps is a great conflict that feels absolutely necessary for him so that whatever Miles ends up choosing is solely his personal decision and not forced by circumstances. Him thinking about this possibility is forced by circumstances, as the introduction mentions, his right to investigate crimes has been taken away referring to how Justine (Verity) constantly prevents him from investigating the crimes he comes across, threatening him with taking his prosecutor's badge away and forcing him to find alternative methods to get access. This in combination with Ray's (Eddie's) appearance is a good incentive for Miles to start thinking about this but I like that by the end when he makes his final decision the framing makes it clear that this pressure is gone and he is free to decide, it wouldn't feel as genuine otherwise. What his decision ends up being might be comparatively obvious, though the introduction of course frames it as a great source of suspense and mystery, but that's not all that important. Way more important is how Miles gets there and imo they absolutely nailed it! I also love that the introduction frames the question completely neutral, pursuing the truth as a prosecutor VS as a defense attorney, as it should be because one is not inherently better than the other (unlike some other games in the series might end up implying). Since Ray is the one who mainly brings up the question in the game he frames it in a biased way, which makes sense for him. In the end though, Miles and the overall narrative positions it as a decision between two equally viable options and I love that the introduction follows suit.

36th Painting of Dear, United Kingdom
Six days after the painting of Julian Clifton from Postman Pat, I finally made the painting of Sergeant Rose Ravani from Fireman Sam today.
Sergeant Rose Ravani from Fireman Sam - 11th September 2023
I made her Pontypandy Police uniform that's consisting of dark blue jacket with silver buttons and police badge, white shirt with yellow necktie, a pair of dark blue trousers and black shoes.
I'm also making a dark blue and bright tannish-yellow checkered background that represented the Pontypandy Police Service.

So tired.
That's my first thought as I clock on. I mean, the pay is surprisingly high, but the hours are exhausting. If it weren't for the fact I'm been the one that's stuck around while everyone's quitting left, right, and centre.
"You look awful."
Ahhh, my first regular. I look up to see a buff man with tattoos of orange dragons on his arms, bulging muscles, and a teasing grin on his face.
"Morning Gary." I smile tiredly. "Let me guess, Soy Latte with Hazelnut syrup?"
"Of course. But are you alright, kiddo?" Gary asks me.
"Just-" A yawn interrupts me, making Gary chuckle. "Closed last night. Kat called in a Sickie, so... I'm here."
"You Australians are really strange with your words."
I scoff as I make his Latte, "Like you can talk, you Americans and your nicknames. Seriously! You call Macca's 'Mickey Dees'! Are you guys obsessed with a Mouse?!"
Gary laughs, "Well, you know, if you want, I could-"
"Not happening, Aro Dragon. I'll take the extra money. Need to get my parents their 36th anniversary gift." I chuckle.
"Ooh, 36? That's a milestone, kiddo." Gary smirks.
I hand him his coffee and smirk, "Especially in this day and age. Most couples are only together for a year before they go Kaput!"
Gary chuckles and takes his coffee, drinking it all in one gulp.
"That hits the spot. Seriously, you make 'em like no other." Gary smiles.
I just smile at the comment before I hear the ding of a customer walking through the door.
"Time to work." I whisper before I put on my game face. A large smile and bright eyes as I lock eyes with the large woman. Seriously, why are most of the customers so buff?
"Good Morning, welcome to The Badjives Cafe! While I may be a snack, I am not on the menu. How may I help you on this beautiful, sunny day?"
The woman blinks at me in a very disbelieving look as the rain pours outside and from the woman's suit.
"It's raining."
"Well, it's sunny somewhere in the world!" I grin, making Gary chuckle as he watches me.
The woman sighs before walking to the counter.
"What do you recommend?" She asks, not bothering with a smile.
I study the woman, trying to figure out what she's like. You can tell a lot about a person just by what they're wearing. She's wearing a lot of dark purple, and the tattoos are of lone wolves.
"I'd recommend the Ace Cake for you!" I smile.
The woman raises her eyebrow, making me bite my lip.
"What's in it?"
"Grapes, Plum, and a lot of Purple food colouring. Also, it's in the shape of a Dragon, too." I smile.
She asks me, "Why do you recommend it?"
I reply, without even thinking, "I'm Ace."
"That's your name?" The woman asks.
I shake my head and gesture to my name badge, "Actually, I'm Fortuna. But everyone calls me Lucky."
"Then what's 'Ace'?" She asks.
Gary shakes his head, warning me not to tell her.
"It means... I have an ace up my sleeve a lot. Aces also love Dragons and Purple." I half-lie.
She stares at me, and I just smile. I mean, I did work in McDonalds before coming here. Not much can scare you after that. So I just wait for her to make her first move.
"What about drinks?"
I reply without missing a beat, "Iced Chai with 1 brown sugar and cold foam."
"... Why?"
I shrug, "Seems like your kind of drink. But if you have your own idea, I'll be happy to make it."
"Alright. Give me those, then."
I immediately get to work, making the drink for her when I hear Gary walk up to her.
"So... Who is this Fortuna?" The woman asks.
"She's protected." Gary replies.
Protected? What? From what?
"Does she know?"
"Not a clue. And she never will if we have anything to say about it."
Now that's Sus. I finish putting the foam on the Iced Chai and walk back towards the two people who tower above me.
"A Fortuna Special. Enjoy!"
The woman picks up the drink and sniffs it before taking a sip.
"Hmm... Not bad, Fortuna."
I smile before I hear another ding. Here we go again.
"Good Morning, welcome to the Badjives Cafe-"
"I'm looking for someone." This new woman demands.
"Well, you've come to the right place, Ma'am. I'm Fortuna, and here and the Badjives Cafe, all Bad Vibes just do a Jive out the door. Who are you looking for?" I ask.
"I'm looking for The Gold Jack." She frowns, her hand going towards her hip.
I frown, trying to figure out who she's talking about. Jackie James? Jackson Lab? Jackaraff?
"I don't know anyone with that name, sorry."
The woman then pulls a knife out and aims it at me.
"Try again, Kid."
I scoff, "I don't know a Golden Jackaroo, but even if I did, I ain't no snitch, mate. Also, why are you threatening me with a butterknife?"
Okay, technically, I think it's a Carving knife, but my Fear levels were always low. The woman runs towards me and I hold my hand up in a stop motion.
"Look, mate, do you know what's scarier than a McDonald's worker? A retired Australian McDonald's worker who works in an American Cafe."
I pull out my American gun and hold it up to the woman.
"And in America, Guns are legal. Didn't even need a licence to buy one. Now, if you value your continued existence, I suggest you get out of me store."
"It's not your store. And you wouldn't dare."
"I ate a Roo once. I come from the land Down Under. Where spiders grow to the size of a dog, where the snakes are so venomous that a single drop could kill an elephant, where our lizards are so huge that if one took up residence in your house, it's easier just to move. Where our pythons can eat saltwater crocodiles with ease, where the frogs eat the snakes, where even the hail can kill you! If I can deal with that, I can shoot you."
Okay, to be fair, Australia is that nuts. And the Gun doesn't have bullets. But this nutjob doesn't know that.
"You're bluffing."
"I work in fast food, C&%+. You really wanna test me? Maybe I know someone that will flay your skin to use as a jacket." I smirk before looking her up and down, "Or, at best, a clutch-sized purse."
"You can put the gun down, Lucky."
I raise my eyebrow slightly before turning to see most of the Cafe holding guns at the woman.
"Look here, Darling," the Chai woman states, "I've only known Fortuna for an hour at most, but you do anything to her, you're gonna have to answer to me."
I smile before a gunshot rings out, making my blood freeze. I look at the intruder's hand to see another weapon, this time a Gun. How did I miss that? Wait, it's smoking... Who got shot? I hear ringing and Gary's voice yelling my name. I narrow my eyes and throw the gun at the woman, making it hit her in the head, giving her a shiner.
"She'll feel that in the morning." I mutter.
"Lucky!" Gary yells, jumping over the counter and looks down at my stomach, making me look down to see my beautiful orange shirt stained with red. "How do you feel?"
How do I feel? I'm not sure. It's so numb, but I can feel the blood running my legs. He lowers me to the ground, and my legs stop working.
"I don't."
"We need an ambulance-"
I immediately grab his hand and announce, "In THIS COUNTRY?! Let me bleed out. It's cheaper."
"I know a guy." James states as I feel my sanity slipping. "He'll help her."
"Tie me kangaroo down, Sport
Tie me kangaroo down.
Tie me kangaroo down, Sport
Tie me kangaroo down." I recite, trying to keep myself calm.
"She's reciting that Australian anthem." James states making me snort. Not exactly a lie, but it's not the truth either.
"Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred.
Tan me hide when I'm dead.
So we tanned his Hyde when he died, Clyde
And that's it hanging in the shed!"
"That's their anthem?"
"I think she was pulling our leg."
"Fortuna? Stay with us."
I can feel myself starting to drift off.

5/8/2023 DAB Chronological Transcriptions
Psalm 25, Psalm 29, Psalm 33, Psalm 36, Psalm 39
It's. Welcome to Daily Audio Bible Chronological, I'm Jill. Today is the 8th day of May, and boy, are we just cruising right along in this year and this month, which ultimately means we're just cruising right along in reading the Word of God in chronological order. And what a joy, what a complete honor it is to be here with you this week. So it's so good to be back with you and commit this week, consecrate this week to the Lord and to invite him to do what it is that he desires to say to us, to speak to us, to speak through us and to really just tweak and change in our hearts and our minds and our lives so that we would be representatives of the love of Jesus Christ. So just take a second here today. It's the front end of the week and that can be really stressful. Just take a deep breath. We're going to just take a second here and let go of all of the things that would compete for our attention in these next few minutes or so in this space. Just take a minute to breathe. Take a deep breath in and hold it and exhale. And we just let go of the appointments that may be on the schedule for today, for thinking about what dinner we have to make for today, for today, maybe just releasing the tension that you're holding for the person that just cut you off on your commute. We release them to God. The fight that you had this morning, maybe with your child on the way to school, exhale that away. And we invite the peace of Christ into these minutes as His Word washes over us. And really there's nothing that needs our attention that we cannot get to at the end of this, unless of course, there's a medical emergency of some sort. And even that we invite the peace of Jesus that surpasses all understanding into this time. So, Father, we recognize that you are here. Your Spirit is present among us. We open ourselves to receive all that you want to say to us, speak to our hearts and change us from the inside out we pray. Today we are reading the Psalms. We're gonna jump around, just a little bit. We're gonna begin with Psalm 25, jump to Psalm 29, and move, gonna move to Psalm 33, Psalm 36, and then we will end with Psalm 39 today. This week we are reading the New English Translation, Psalm 25. Commentary
So if we just want to take a look at Psalm 36 today, it might be a difficult look. By the way, just a little disclaimer, quite an opening line. Are you ready for this? An evil man is rebellious to the core. We could just do a full stop right there. An evil man is rebellious to the core. What's interesting to me is the Wording is not a rebellious man is evil, but rather in this context, David declares the heart of evil in man. And there's a whole lot more to say based on this verse. But if we're just stopping right there. I am so convicted with just that right there, because I look back at the decisions I made in my life, I look back at my own rebelliousness, almost wearing it as a badge of honor at times in my life. And if you've been here since the beginning of the year, we laid some ground rules, if you remember. And one way to not read the Bible is to read it and think about how these verses apply to all these other people in your lives. It does bring clarity sometimes. Maybe if you are dealing with a toxic relationship or a toxic person or an abusive person. But the Bible should be read as a mirror, as a reflection of our own hearts, our own lives. And so we have to read this and say, okay, how is this applicable to me, the reader? And maybe we start with the really hard verse in the 36th chapter. An evil man is rebellious to the core. We can so easily define evil for God, and it's usually on the outside of this Christian barricade. We have surrounded ourselves within, and it then becomes us versus them and them. They are the evil ones on the outskirts, trying to inflict evil upon us. What we fail to realize is that we are all capable of evil. We are all capable of sin falling short. And so I hear this verse and I just it makes me a little nauseous if I'm just being honest. I have many times in my life felt like I was going to exercise my rights and my freedoms. And what I realized is you can do that and still be in complete rebellion to God. You can still live outside of the fear of God. I can still live in the freedom of Christ and not care about doing what is wise and right. I have not rejected what is evil. So let's move ahead to Psalm 39 and let's talk about that for a quick second. I decided I will watch what I say and make sure I do not sin with my tongue. I will put a muzzle over my mouth while in the presence of an evil person. If David clues us in on evil in verse 36, that evil is rebellious to the core, then let's apply that. I decided I will watch what I say and make sure I do not sin with my tongue. I will put a muzzle over my mouth while in the presence of a rebellious person. Have you ever tried to stay silent in the presence of a rebellious person? Have you ever tried to silence yourself in the heart of your rebellion? This cuts so deep if I'm just being honest. How much have we felt the need to defend our choices? How much have we decided the louder the better. How much have we defended our faith, our God, our freedoms? And maybe what we were declaring out of our mouth is our rebelliousness. How many times have we chosen words when what we needed was silence? Never underestimate the power of silence. Never let someone tell you that silence is weakness. The other times we have stayed silent when we could have should have spoken against blatant evil, blatant wrongdoing, blatant abuse. But the difference is living in the fear of the Lord and asking for wisdom and guidance of knowing when words are needed and when our silence can speak more profoundly than anything we could say. And I challenge us all, myself included. I am never not included in what I am speaking. It starts here first. But I do challenge us all today to take a few minutes and take some deep, necessary inventory at the rebelliousness inside of each of us. It might not be major, major things that we're saying no to, but it could be little things that we're just not willing to do. We are just going to go against what God has asked of us in these little decisions that we have just gotten so accustomed to that we don't even realize how we're operating. We don't even realize that it's in direct opposition to what God has asked of us according to his word, according to his voice in our lives. And as we ask, I pray that we would make space, make room for the Holy Spirit to show us those things. And please note the voice of God, the voice of the Spirit of God is never to condemn. If you hear condemnation, that is not the voice of God, but the voice of God does come to convict our heart, say, here's where we went wrong. But there is not a voice of shame. There's no name calling. There's no belittlement or dehumanization. It's a gentle voice. We can do better here. This is where we went wrong and this is how we will change this. Prayer
And so my prayer today for us is one of ancient prayers from the Book of Common Prayer that I love and that I have made a regular rhythm in my life. And it says this most merciful God, I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what I have done and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart. I have not loved my neighbor as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent for the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Have mercy on me and forgive me that I may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your name. And I pray this in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen. Outro
We end here today. I would encourage you to spend a few more minutes taking that internal inventory of those little decisions that we make every day that lead us into every choice, every action, everything we say and do. And what is God speaking that we need to surrender to Him under His Lordship, under his authority to say, I'm done doing this on my own and not recognizing the fear of the Lord and how this affects my relationship with God and how this affects people around me as a representative of Jesus Christ. Stay in it and know that there is grace at the end of that inventory list. So if you're journaling and taking note, make sure you write grace. Grace and mercy for all of it. I'm Jill. We'll turn the page together tomorrow. Until then, love one another. Community Prayer Line
Grace and peace. Everyone. This is Brother Lenny, the truth seeker, calling out of Maryland, and certainly pray that this day finds you well. Been trying to record this message for a bit, and there is a DABber who just popped into my mind maybe a couple of days ago. I am new to DABC. This is my second year. And last year there was a dear sister, Sister Whitney, who would call in quite frequently requesting prayers. And literally as I was brushing my teeth, her name popped up in my spirit. And Sister Whitney, I certainly just wanted to pray for you on today. Father God, we thank you so much for who you are. We thank you for your grace, your mercy. And today I just want to lift up my sister, want to ask that you continue to watch over her. We know that last year was a year full of challenges, a year full of grief and sadness. But, God, I'm just asking that you remind her that you have promised that you would never be far off from us. I ask that whatever her needs are, whether it be emotional, spiritual, physical, financial, that, God, that you are the God who sees us where we are and meets our needs. So, God, I just want to lift up a prayer of solidarity for my beloved sister. That you would continue to just embrace her, that you would continue to keep your arms around her, continue to whisper to her, and to let her know that she is loved, that you are with her, that you will never leave her, that you will never forsake her. And, God, I just thank you for what you are yet to do in her life, in the life of all of those who are called according to your purpose. All right, Deborah. May the Lord God bless and keep you. May he cause his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. May he lift up his countenance upon you, and may he give you his peace. Good morning, DABC. This is Deborah from Michigan. I heard a prayer request on April 15 from a daughter whose 81 year old mother was having pain in her jaw, and no one could figure out what it was from. My background is I have a degree in dental hygiene, and it sounds to me as if your mother may be suffering from something that's called trigeminal neurogia. I would have that checked out. My grandmother suffered from that. It's severe, intense pain of the jaw caused by the nerve flaring up in that area of the mouth and jaw. It's worth looking at. It can be treated, and I hope this helps and you've been heavy on my mind. God bless and thank you, Dab, for all you do. Good morning, DABC family. This is Roxanne from Greenville, North Carolina. I'm calling to request prayer for a friend of mine. I would say he's a coworker as well. He works where I work at another state in Pennsylvania, and his name is Joel. I would ask that you would pray for him. He just found out that he has stage four pancreatic cancer and also pray for his wife too. She broke her back. So they're moving back to be closer to their family in Lancaster, PA. He'll still be working and everything. The doctors have given him some good news. He has a specific gene. I can't remember what it is, but it's supposedly this gene does something to cancer to give them more time. But we also know that God is the ultimate physician, so imperia is powerful. And I mentioned to him that I was going to be praying for him and so was my small group and the people in DABC. And I told him a little bit about the daily audio Bible. I don't know if he's saved or not, but he believes in prayer. And I told him about how we all around the world, brothers and sisters, a family, are praying for people and that people all over the world will be praying for him. So I just ask that you would continue to lift him up. I pray for healing, ask that you pray for healing, for peace, and just if there's an opportunity for me to talk to him about Christ, please pray that I find that as well. I love you guys. I thank you so much for this podcast. Talk to you later. Bye. One thing I just wanted to also say to Emmy from Illinois, and I don't know if you guys will add this. It's just that I love you and we love you and we will be praying for you. And you have just shown such great strength and faith in trying. And you should definitely not feel bad about that because I did ask my husband to go to counseling as well, and mine would not go. You got yours to actually go and you tried. And I think that's what God really wanted us to try to choose, to try to stay together and to try to work things out. And I just want you to know that you are so loved by Him and you are his daughter, and to just draw close to him. And that's something that took me a while. I needed to draw closer to the Lord because he never leaves. He will never leave. He always loves you. He will always be there for you. And I wanted to add that in Emmy. The Lord is close to the broken hearted we love you so much I just pray that you go.

NDA Saga~ Fabulous Fourth Term
The Spring Term commenced in Jan 1969. We felt elated to grow in seniority while three of us were appointed as Corporals. I was really happy with this recognition of my achievements. As Corporals we had to take the responsibilities as Vice Captains for various competitions. As Fourth Termors, we looked forward to certain privileges such as visit Pune on liberty twice a month, learning individual sports such as Tennis & Squash and playing indoor Games in the squadron Ante- room.
We always remember Maj Darshan Singh ( fondly called Dhaka Singh) who was the Physical Training Officer. His presence at the PT & Gymnasium complex, Swimming Pool & various Sports Grounds was always inspiring. He was assisted by a team of highly qualified NCO instructors referred as PT ‘Saabs’. They ensured that the cadets passed the mandatory tests in each Term & motivated them to attain higher standards from good to excellent. The best of the best performers were awarded PT Blue~ an embroidered Badge which had to be displayed on the NDA blazer.
Jumping from the 10m board in the Swimming Pool was a compulsory test. There were few instances of cadets who feared doing this test. As usual, Dhaka Singh would chase such cadets right up to the diving board & push them down till they qualified this test voluntarily. In Athletics competition, he made us participate compulsorily in all events of the Decathlon, irrespective of the level of proficiency. The dedication of PT ‘Saabs’ for progressively improving our Physical Fitness was indeed remarkable!!
Greater stress was led on Weapon Training during the Fourth Term. WT ‘Ustaads’ taught us skills for handling various weapons such as Rifles, Carbines and Light Machine Guns. Firing practices were conducted at the long range to achieve the target.... “Ek Goli, Ek Dushman”. The Ustaads introduced us to basic battle drills & field craft as well. Map Reading & Navigation exercises were conducted in close proximity of the campus by the Divisional Officers. The stage was set for Camp Rover which was held on a hilly feature approximately 40 kms away for a duration of five days. We had to set up the camp by pitching bivouacs & dug trenches around the camp site.
On each night, patrolling and navigation exercises were practised while day time was devoted to battle drills. On an average, we could barely rest for 4 hrs every night. On the last night, we had the Josh Run Competition which involved a cross country race of 40 kms wearing FSMO. It was a test of endurance, physical & mental toughness & Squadron spirit. The race terminated early morning at the Bombay Stadium where we received refreshing Nimbu Pani & Cold Coffee. Echo Squadron bagged the Third Position even after physically lifting one of our course mates who got injured in the last stretch. We felt satisfied that we applied the concept of "Never leave a Comrade behind”.
Equitation Training continued under the coaching of professional riding Ustaads during the Third & Fourth Term. By now, I had gained enough confidence to control any horse regardless of its peculiar behaviour. Consequently, I found it easier to qualify in the mandatory tests of Lane Jumping & Obstacle Course. The expert riders were trained further for Tent Pegging & Show Jumping events. They represented the NDA Team in various competitions & won various laurels. The Ustaads really deserve all the credit for these achievements.
Academic Sessions were conducted as per the well laid out curriculum which had stood the test of time. We always looked forward to foreign language classes since we were learning a new language allotted in the Third Term. I certainly faced initial difficulty in learning Arabic since the script had to be read & written backwards. Professor Ali had a novel approach in teaching us step by step, the basic reading, writing & speaking skills. He initiated the concept of foreign language dinner on a monthly basis in the Cadets Mess. It gave the students an opportunity to communicate in Arabic.
Military History was introduced as a subject in Fourth Term. It was interesting to learn about the history of First World War, Second World War, Indo~ Pak War of 1947-48, Sino~Indian War of 1962 & Indo~ Pak war of 1965. Simultaneously, we were allotted team projects for personality study of military leaders of these campaigns. We had to devote our spare time for carrying out research for these projects in the Vyas Library. Team presentations were carried out centrally thereby further refining our communication skills.
Club activities were conducted on every Wed & Sat. I chose to be a member of Sailing & Rowing Club at the picturesque Peacock Bay. It was indeed a challenge to learn the basic technique of Sailing. There were several occasions where we toppled over into the Khadakwasla Lake. However, Rowing was much simpler & enjoyable. The cycle ride up to the Peacock Bay & back was very enthralling. It was very pleasing to observe the presence of beautiful deer, notorious monkeys & graceful peacocks astride the entire road up to the Bay.
In the last week, we had the Squadron Social to bid farewell to the Sixth Term Eagles. The responsibility for planning & organising this function was assigned to my Course. Then followed the Commandant’s Dinner Night in the Cadets Mess. I was awarded several Book Prizes & the coveted Academic Torch which had to be displayed on the uniform as a symbol of academic excellence. Variety Entertainment Program was memorable specially due to a musical mime set to the tune of “Yaadein” which summarised the journey of the three year journey of the 36th course.
Ever since the foundation of NDA, it has been established that a Cadet during his soujourn at the NDA, holds many impressions close to his heart. By merging his identity with his course mates & senior/ junior cadets of his Squadron, he gains the solace of a Herd, the power of a Team & the leverage of a Group. This special attribute is based on the foundation of the NDA Honor Code. To quote....”I believe that a Cadet must be loyal, trustful, trustworthy, honest and forthright under all circumstances. I will not lie, cheat or steal nor will I mislead or deceive anyone. I undertake to faithfully live up to this Code and to continuously encourage my comrades to do so.” Unquote.

Birthday Blog
Today was my birthday. Right between Christmas and New Year’s. People always ask me what that was like growing up. “Was it a bummer to get all your presents at the same time?” “Did you feel like you got overlooked?” I usually just say I don’t know any different. I actually felt like it made my birthday more special, if anything. But none of that has ever really mattered much to me. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of my birthday is that it was the same as my grandpa’s.
I’ve talked about it before a little bit on Facebook, so you might have already heard some of this. My grandpa, Lowell Kline, had 2 daughters. His oldest daughter, my aunt, also had 2 daughters. My mom only had one child, which meant I was the first male in the family. So it was a pretty cool thing that the only 2 guys in the family had the extra bond of sharing a birthday.
Unfortunately, we never got to share any of that. Less than 5 months later, on May 14, he was playing a round of golf and had a massive heart attack that proved fatal. That picture up there is the only picture of him with me. So all I know about him is what I was told over the years by my mom, aunt and grandma.
I know he was 6′4″, the same height I grew to be. He liked to goof around and have a good time. He played sports growing up. (He always played basketball, but his mother only let him play football his senior year and he was named captain.) He also joined the Navy after high school and served during WWII. He took part in the D-Day invasion in Normandy. He was the pilot of one of the amphibious landing boats that you see all the soldiers running out of in all the videos and movies, which meant that he stayed with the boat and luckily didn’t have to storm the beach. Later in life, he was a volunteer member of the fire department. I still have his fire helmet and recently acquired his badge, along with several other belongings. I keep anything of his I can get my hands on.
I was told his funeral was one of those with the line that stretched all the way out the building and onto the sidewalk. He was apparently well-respected by a lot of people.
I didn’t think a lot about it growing up, although he was a pretty frequent topic of conversation at family gatherings. I understood the concept of death, but I always had this weird feeling that I would eventually get to meet him. I guess I still kind of have this feeling deep down that there will be another chance for things in life to turn out differently. It’s hard to explain, and it’s not rational. Maybe that’s just one of the things we have to try to understand and come to terms with in life. Denial, I guess.
But I remember one random night when I was still fairly young, probably no older than 10, that it hit me that there are no second chances at some things. I think I had asked my mom something about my grandpa as we were saying goodnight. That led to her telling me, as she often did, that he was a pretty special guy; that he would have loved having me around and going to all my games and other activities; that I really got a raw deal not getting to know him. And I remember I just started crying about it for the first time. There are times I still have trouble grasping the concept that things that have happened never “unhappen.” But in that moment, I truly understood for the first time the finality of it all.
Today would have been his 94th birthday and our 36th together. I can’t realistically expect him to have lived this long, but he was only 58 when he died, and he should have had maybe a couple more decades. I wonder how things would have been different if he had lived longer. It’s impossible to know.

67-Year-Old Street Vendor Beaten in Robbery for $80, 2 Men Sought Police are looking for two men who beat a 67-year-old street vendor while robbing him of $80 earlier this week in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The attack and robbery took place on Tuesday at Second Avenue and 36th Street, victim Arcadio Bernardino told KTLA.
Two men approached in a car and asked to buy snow cones, he said. But then they grabbed the vendor in a headlock and punched him repeatedly before stealing his money.
Bernardino lost a tooth in the attack but is recovering well.
He normally works in the Arlington Heights neighborhood, and the attack occurred on his first venture into selling in the Jefferson Park area.
Police said the attackers are between 17 and 20 years old and may have been in a gray 2017 Nissan Altima.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.

From the Hawaii Writers Guild website:
Our HWG is gaining more exposure. Several of our Guild members were at the Jo Ann Williams Christmas Craft Fair over the two day event on November 23 and 24 to sell and sign books while promoting the Guild. We passed out flyers and business cards and talked to a lot of people who otherwise would have not known that there is a writers guild in Hawaii.
Our first day, Cece Johansen, Louise Riofrio, Virginia Fortner, Duncan Dempster, and Jada Tan Rufo were all there meeting people and signing books. On day two it was Cece, Jada, Louise, and Jim Gibbons. We had a lot of people who were interested in native Alaskan and Polynesian cultures. Since Louise’s book Discovery is about that, she did very well at the fair. Her books SOLD OUT!
I had encounters with a fellow ESL teacher who had also taught in China, as well as with a young man who has a podcast about Asian Americans and the issues we face. Perhaps you will hear me on a future podcast.
Jim also had an encounter with another fair vendor, a retired police officer who had written a book on his experiences, Behind the Badge. Jim told him about the existence of our writer’s guild and gave him our information. Jim also was able to barter with this man book-for-book. Virginia also was also able to barter with other vendors to get more exposure.
There were fun moments as well. They had door prizes and lucky number draws. Jim and I made out like bandits in that category. He got a prize for having a Santa-like beard, while I had to show pictures of bugs and a selfie with a hotel employee. I also pulled a muscle while trying to walk like a turkey. After all that effort I should get something!
Next up for me is our Writers’ Voices event December 5th, at the Thelma Parker Memorial Library at 6 pm. I’ll be reading from my historical novel The Zone, a story that takes place in 1937, China during the infamous “Rape of Nanking”. The passage I’ll be reading from is a true event taken from the diary of Minnie Vautrin, dean of Ginling Women’s College, who was one of a handful of westerners who stayed behind in the besieged city of Nanking, now Nanjing. Although Iris Chang wrote about the Nanjing Massacre in her book Rape of Nanking, I still find that many Americans know nothing about this atrocity. This book is my attempt to tell people using fiction about what happened in those dark days of December 1937.

Boy Scout seeks advice
I just completed the coin collecting merit badge for the Boy Scouts of America and I wanted to learn more.
First, how do you find really old coins? How do you find the find really valuable coins?
I’m working on the state quarters, and I was wondering if you had any tips on how to find them.
Carter Sisam Address withheld
First 2019 coins in Mich.
I just received my first 2019 coins in change. They came from a fast food restaurant in Ann Arbor, Mich. – two 2019-D Lincoln cents.

Indian Head cent finds
Today I found my second Indian Head cent of the year. This one is an 1890. It is a very nice sample with just nice wear. My first was an 1881 and that one is very nice also. I feel great about having two Indians in two months.
Bob Atwater Conway, S.C.
To slab or not to slab?
Remember what it was like to actually hold coins in your hand? To be able to look at them from every possible angle and not have your view obstructed by a thick chunk of plastic? Remember when coins were so beautiful they were a sight to behold?
Remember when you knew your coin was the best of the best, until CSI, NCIS, ATV, ACDC, DPS, DPl, DMPL, RSS, DMV, PFRVPF, SP,SPL, SDNY, FBI, CIA, NBC, CBS, TBS, IRS, and a gazillion other attributions made your once best-of-the-best coin relegated to 26th in line?
Ah, yes, to feel the weight of an old Morgan, or a brand new Silver Eagle, in the palm of your hand, those were the days when collectors were collectors and hobbyists, not “oldmismatists,” investors, enthusiasts, and flippers. And don’t get me started on graders!
How about getting a slabbed and perfect 70 coin, supposedly gone over by three humans to achieve that number, only to look at it from a foot away and see a clear flaw at 2 o’clock next to JFK’s head? This has happened to me more than I care to mention.
Yes, I have within my collection over 100 coins slabbed and graded perfect 70s, but I prefer my loose and ungraded coins to have and to hold, til inflation ruins everything.

‘Hot Lips’ dime in change
I checked my dimes that I got in change from the store today and got a 1976-D “Hot Lips” dime!

Ocala put on quite a show
The Ocala Coin Club (www.ocalacoinclub.com) held their 36th Annual Coin Show on Feb. 7-9 at the Motel 6 Conference Center in Ocala, Fla. A special thanks to Chairman Rich Selvar, Club President Mark Trout, and the officers and members for providing a table for the American Numismatic Association (www.money.org).
Our location was right next to one of the registration tables. This helped us sign up or renew 12 members for the Association. Thanks to Dealer Harry Eck, from Crystal River, Fla., for making a $25 501© (3) donation to ANA for the shipment of the coin show kit. For visitors who stopped by our table, we answered questions regarding numismatics and also gave out some free stock certificates and other items.
Through excellent advertising locally and nationally, the three-day event brought in 832 visitors. Besides the advertising, 500 or more post cards are also sent out to the previous year’s attendees.
The sold-out bourse featured 60 dealers at 50 tables. We talked to several dealers who had a table, and they said they were kept busy throughout the show and sales were very good. Security for the show was excellent, and no problems were reported.
Everyone who attends has free admission, and they also receive a special elongate and wooden money especially made for this event. Hourly silver door prizes were also given out (everyone received a ticket when they registered). Any young collector who entered received a free bag of coins. A literature table was also set up, and coin publications (along with other information) was passed out for free. An all-gold raffle was also held.
The food vendor had free coffee for the workers up until 10:00 a.m. The food they serve is always great and reasonably priced. The club had over 30 members assisting at registration and raffle sales. Many of them helped with set up and breakdown. The club is a 50+ year member of the ANA and is a member of the Florida United Numismatists (www.funtopics.com).
We look forward to next year’s Ocala Coin Club show, which is already sold out, and will be held in this same location on Feb. 6-8, 2020.

Holder obscures curved coin
Received 2019-P Apollo 11 50th Anniversary $1, NGC-PF-70, today. The NGC “FOOTPRINT” White Core Holder is quite disappointing.
The reverse of the coin is partially obscured. Turning the coin every which way, trying to read “E. Pluribus Unum” and “United States of America” is nearly impossible. Unlike the PF-70 half that has a gap around the coin, the dollar is flush to the edge of the core.
NGC should’ve kept the same holder as utilized on the 2014 curved Baseball coins. I expect better from NGC.
Steve McGowan Algonac, Mich.
Delaware Innovation date
Is the Delaware Innovation coin supposed to be released this spring?
Josh Address withheld
Editor’s Note: The U.S. Mint has not yet announced a release date for the 2019 American Innovation dollar for Delaware.
Innovation dollar unwanted
I have been a subscriber of Numismatic News for a number of years. May I put in my “two cents” worth of input on the very truthful letter of Mr. Bill Tuttle of Cleveland, Ohio? He hit the nail on the head!
The United States is the greatest country in this world with the largest mint, the best talented engravers and designers, yet we fail to realize that many, many people and a load of collectors do not want another small “junk dollar” coin that will again fill our vaults for many years to come, unused. The latest looks like an unfinished design, very poor!
Where is the Citizens Commission on Coinage with their input to the Treasury? If there was competition in the world, it would certainly win two awards: pure ugly in design and a useless coin of the realm that the majority of us will never circulate. Stop the Innovation dollar now, and save us taxpayers a ton of dollars!
Dominic J. Valentino Philadelphia, Pa.

Rosario Dawson confirms she’s dating U.S. presidential hopeful Cory Booker
Rosario Dawson confirms she’s dating U.S. presidential hopeful Cory Booker Rosario Dawson confirms she’s dating U.S. presidential hopeful Cory Booker https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Rosario Dawson has confirmed reports she’s dating U.S. presidential wannabe Cory Booker.
The first African-American U.S. Senator from New Jersey and Newark’s 36th Mayor recently announced his intention of running as a Democrat in the 2020 election, and it appears he has a running mate in the Sin City star.
The actress was caught by TMZ cameras arriving at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, and when she was asked if the rumours about a romance with Booker were true, she chuckled and said, “Yes, very much so.”
Rosario added, “He’s a wonderful human being and it’s good to spend some time together when we can. We’re very busy… I am just grateful to be with someone that I respect and love and admire so much, who is so brilliant and kind and caring and loving.”
Booker recently confirmed he was all loved-up during an appearance on radio show The Breakfast Club, but stopped short of naming his “boo.”
Dawson, who is a celebrity political activist, also showed off a Cory Booker campaign badge pinned to her handbag as she walked through the airport, telling TMZ she feels sure her boyfriend would make a great President.
She first sparked rumours she was dating the U.S. Senator after they were spotted out and about together in New York City in January.
Dawson previously dated director Danny Boyle and comedian Eric Andre, while Booker was linked to U.S. newswoman Gayle King, poet Cleo Wade, and Chanda Gibson, the executive director of the Council of Urban Professionals.
