Haven't been practicing like I should, but still remember how to do them. Why don't I do one daily anymore? I don't know. 🙁😕 I guess cos I just feel less accomplished with them since gaining weight back, they are more of a struggle. I'm sure I'd be more comfortable with them if I did them more frequently. It's kind-of a self-fulfilling prophecy thing. 😟

Today I have been really tired but wanted to still take photos for the yoga challenge and do the headstand. It is quite funny to do the headstand whilst tired and then realize you are falling but kind of falling in slowmotion because you are kind of balanced still. So I opted for the tripod with a bit more support and with the wall behind as a safety.

How did you start doing headstands? I've tried but it hurts the top of my head. Is that normal?
Hey! Yeah, that’s very normal. I started by using folded up towels under my head and on a floor that was covered with those rubber ‘play room’ mats, but even so, it did hurt and I only stayed up a short time at first, even against the wall. Over time, my head got used to it ... or got harder (?? haha!) and my neck, shoulders, and core also gained strength.
Make sure you are on the TOP of your head. You don’t want to be too far forward or back or you risk injury to your neck, also, most of the weight needs to be in your ARMS, not on your head/neck. Think about lifting your head off the floor with your arms when you’re in a headstand to take the weight off your head.
We had a fill-in for our regular hot yoga teacher and he did headstands as part of his practice/class, so that was where I was first introduced to them (and I sucked so badly!), but I also watched many videos about them to try and gain any tricks. There really aren’t any tricks -- practice, practice, practice.

These are more ‘hurry up’ headstands using the 10 second flash thing, cos it’s after dark and my camera that takes the videos just can’t seem to focus properly in artificial light. It’s good practice tho ... getting up into them quickly. Good confidence builder. :)

What I learned from this today: Just because grass is kept mowed and looks nice, does NOT mean it is not full of sand-spurs. OUCH! OUCH! OUCH!

Tried super-hard to lift both legs up off the ball at once and into a headstand, like grunting with effort hard ... but it didn’t happen. Best I could get was up on tippy-toes on the ball. More core work to be done.

Although it doesn’t look like it, there were TONS of people at the beach tonight at sunset, so the first headstand I did was quite far back from the water, cos there just seemed to be so many people walking up close to the water ... not really sure how none of them managed to get in my shots, but trust me, they were there!
Then, when the sun went down a bit more, it thinned out and I moved right down quite near the water and did it again. (which are actually the FIRST pictures here) :)
I’ve had a great headstand day! I really need to just make sure I do at least a short one every single day, as I’ve gotten lax and sometimes skip some days. I think that’s when I start to get wobbly and unsure with them.
And, lastly, it kinda sucks that the camera that does the video doesn’t seem to pick up the colors in the sky as well as my phone does; they sort of ‘wash-out’. Of course, my phone does video, but it doesn’t mount on a tripod, so, kinda hard to video myself with it.

Okay, well this just looks like one of my normal headstands, but the thing was it’s at night and my camera that shoots video that I normally use for these just doesn’t work worth a fuck in artificial light -- it never focuses right.
So, I set up my ‘good’ camera to take 10 continuous shots with a flash ... which meant I needed to get my ass up in the air quickly -- no farting around. Hit the button, walk across the room, get into position and get my legs up in 10 seconds.
Well, I didn’t actually do all that in 10 seconds. The bottom sequence are the first 4 pictures that snapped -- but, hey! I usually take like 20-30 seconds to do that! So ... speed-headstanding tonight! It’s a new thing.
I was gonna skip doing this, since it was so late, but I felt so wobbly and just uncomfortable yesterday that I thought i needed to get this in, one way or another. I’m pleased to say that I felt great tonight. I wonder if going fast might be better -- less time to think and let my brain start doubting what my body can do.

Not a great practice. Didn’t feel strong or really comfortable. Not sure why. I was gonna try to do more with my legs, but just wasn’t feeling able this morning. Maybe I’ll give it another try later on.

Tried a tripod headstand today. I tried REALLY HARD to lift both legs up at once, but it just wouldn’t happen, so I settled for lifting one at a time. Not the smoothest in the world, but still, something I’ve never accomplished before at all, so, YAY! NSV. :)
I remember struggling so hard to just get my knees on my elbows the first time I did this and now it’s like nothing. One day I’ll get those legs to lift up as one.
