Oh, Oliver you little psycho.
Also that bathwater scene was the most 'what the fuck' moment I've had so far in my entire life watching movies. I don't know why I had that visceral reaction to it when I've seen much more fucked up scenes before.

365films2024 | #8 - Whisper of the Heart
It's been a while since I've watched a Studio Ghibli film (or any animated film) and this was a pleasant surprise.
As I watch it, I can't help but feel endeared to the characters, because they're so innocent and full of life. My favorite scene was actually when Seiji went to Tsukishima's classroom and asked for her. Her classmate's teasing was just so cute!
This movie reminded me of the joy of everyday life, of finding and working towards your dream. Also those two are cute together--oh, young love!

What a movie! Wonder performance and sound editing
The way Riz Ahmed portrayed the character dealing with the loss of hearing was so gut wrenching--I myself felt suffocated just seeing him deal with it (no doubt also aided by the amazing sound editing).

365films2024 | #6 - Loving Vincent
I've been meaning to watch this film for quite some time now. Needless to say, this is such a beautifully made movie.
In terms of plot, the way it mostly revolved around the question of 'did Vincent really kill himself' felt like I was watching BuzzFeed Unsolved (they did have an episode on it so maybe that's why). It did have its moments, but I would've like for it to have explored Vincent's life in general.

#2 - Steel Magnolias
That scene at the cemetery was glorious--I was crying so hard but they still managed to make me laugh out loud.

#1 - A Very Good Girl
I had high hopes for this and I don't know why. Maybe because of all the mothering they did for the movie promotions (but really I only saw Dolly and Kathryn's joint slay in one promo video).
A Very Good Girl is a dark comedy movie about a girl who seeks revenge against an owner of a mall chain after she got fired which led to [redacted].
Aside from that one video of Dolly and Kathryn walking towards the camera, I really went in blind. But by the end of it, I felt very frustrated. Because it did had marks of a good movie. The cinematography was good. Some of the acting was good. The wardrobe team was on fire with those outfits. The execution of the plot, however, just wasn't it. It felt choppy--especially with the placement of those flashbacks--that the emotional moments are not sticking because we're already thrust back to the present day. It felt to me that they want to have that 'Knives Out' vibe but can't just seem to do it. It felt to busy because they want to show how good a schemer Mercy was.
Halfway through the movie, I was given hope. Dolly's careful balance of the absurdity and evilness got me. I felt we were finally getting somewhere. Mercy and Mother Molly's dynamic is finally getting weird, something is up! Mercy is finally going to have her years of plotting finally come to fruition. Then, THEN WE GET THAT ENDING!
What a stupid way to end a movie centered on getting revenge. There was no payoff at all! Two hours of thinking in what absurd way is Mother Molly going to die? How will Mercy weasel her way out of this? But then we get that ending, aptly described by a reviewer as "鈥t ended the way I think a Star Cinema movie would end."
