I'm starting late on this, but better late than never! @cinderys_art started an awesome #30daysofcosplay for the month of September, and it's honestly just what I needed to kick me back into posting some cosplay goodness! Swipe to see the prompts and join in using her tag! 1. Your First Cosplay. This was my Brandy from Liberty Meadows cosplaying as a Red shirt from Star Trek TOS. It's the first time I made a costume, and the first time I cut and styled a wig. I had no clue what I was doing, but was so excited and proud of the end results. Have you cosplayed before? If so, what was your first cosplay? #30daysofcosplay 15. Your least favorite thing about cosplay? Stress and the pressure to exceed. This is 100% internal. No one has told me my cosplays aren't good enough, but sometimes it feels that way.. I think this comes from me never being good at any sports or such. I was a fat and lonely child, but when I started to compete in cosplay - I was actually good at something! 2015 was "my year" in cosplay. I won dream hack, I represented Sweden in Eurcosplay and I qualified for Cosplay-SM.. Which was a lot of fun, but also I put a lot of stress and pressure on myself. Nothing was good enough.. Which really kills the fun in cosplay. Now I have learned and try to focus on having fun, and not stress so much. Focus on creating something, rather than worry about every detail being perfect. I mean, I still do my best, but I don't beat myself down over small mistakes the same way.. Also I do some casual and/or group cosplays in between "competition costumes". Mixing it up. How do you deal with cosplay stress? Pic is from #DreamHack in 2015 with my Spectre (DOTA2) cosplay. #spectre #dota2cosplay

Day 27 of #30daysofcosplay How many wigs do you own? Which is your favorite? Shido owns about 30 wigs, & I own about 80. We share wigs since most of the time our characters have different hair styles. We usually either repurpose or sell wigs for characters we no longer cosplay. My favorite collection of wigs currently is the @Arda fairy blonde. Which is no surprise because I mostly own different shaded of blonde wigs. I have 3 styles in Arda fairy blonde and LOVE them all so much♡ It's always hard to find a flatteting blonde wig, so this new shade is a dream come true. The Katinka I use for Shiemi (reaches my chin), the ponytail clip I use for Haninozuka (reaches my waist), & the Delilah I use for Chi (reaches my ankles I'm short af though). I'll be wearing these all for Ausa btw xD #selfie #blonde #wigs #arda #costest #cosplayersofinstagram #cosplay #cosplayer #geek #nerd #anime #manga #cosplaywip

30 Days of Cosplay! Day 9: I.... Am such trash. I am so sorry. I have tricked you all into thinking I was this super cool, super awesome, super talented cosplayer but alas! More Homestuck. So day 9 is a dream cosplay that might happen, and that title goes to Marquise Spinneret Mindfang, a badass pirate from Homestuck, and uh yeah she's kind of my big plan for SwampCon this year since the themes is totally pirates. So this outfit was honestly just a lot of fun. I was wearing 6" platform shoes that I made and my goggles and mask so no one could could see my expressions. I put myself in a corner at one point waiting for friends to meet up with me, and the number of people I freaked the fuck out made my day! But I did get to give out most of my kandi to other cosplayers and kids so that was nice ❤️ #cosplay #30daysofcosplay #cosplayersofinstagram #homestuckcosplay #homestuck #ravestuck #mindfang #terezi

30 Days Of Cosplay - Day Six
Shoes can often times be one of the hardest parts of a cosplay. For that reason they are often overlooked by even the most seasoned of cosplayers. Often times characters in shows, games, and movies are wearing shoes that are designed for their character specifically and are therefore not available to the public, or if they are actual shoes and are available, they are pricey and will ruin a cosplay budget. So, here are some tips from us here at SkinWalker on shoes.
1) Don’t be against buying shoes at thrift stores, and look at them when you are there to see if they have any shoes that could be used for a later project.
2) Try to find shoes that are fitting for your character, but generic enough to be used a second time for something else.
3) When you find a very unique pair of shoes that seem to be perfect for a character you don’t have imminent plans for, have an amount in mind before looking at them further. Having a dollar amount picked out, such as ‘anything below $5’ will allow you to decide if they are worth the purchase.
4) If you are thinking about more advanced DIY cosplay, you can alter shoes that you purchase (more on that later).
Those were just some quick tips and tricks for finding shoes, if all else fails wear something comfortable! You will be in them for several hours, and it is better to wear something that doesn’t quite match the character and not kill your feet than it is the other way around.
Keep on cosplaying!

Day: 12 Okay I had to do a second post for today just to rep my fellow Canadians. God, I’m maybe a little obsessed with this group of cosplayers. Theyre so pretty!!! And they did Mystic Messenger characters and I’m trash so I was a super fan girl of theirs after that. And they’re in Canada so I’ll be damned if I don’t meet them at a con some day. All their post just make me happy. They’re so rad! I’ll probably be super nervous if I ever meant them. Their friendship and their cosplays are #goals! . . . . . @philmizuno @wil01d2 @kitsurie @yumecos @__hikarin #30daysofcosplay #cosplay #costume #coshalfnaked #noticemesenpai https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo1sOAsFKz2/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1s2ulbw4kdeho

Day 2. Your last cosplay. Pinup Rogue. This was also at my last con of 2020 @c2e2 . While many cosplayers found the motivation and drive to create through the pandemic, I fell into that grouping of humans that struggled, like many. My anxiety and depression definitely showed through in my posts and stories, as it became increasingly difficult to bottle it in as our state of being and quarantine loneliness became increasingly crippling. My drive was to just make it through to 2021 in one piece. And thats ok. So my creativity died, for a time. And now its back and brighter than ever. Funny how that works. I tend to be very private when it comes to my life, but sometimes I open up about certain things because I feel that if it can helps someone out there and if it can be relatable to just one person, and reach them, and help them, then that's all that matters. We are all human and we all struggle. All I can say is this: don't feel bad if all you did last year was survive. Don't feel bad if all you did last year was sleep. Don't feel bad if all you did last year was work out. Don't feel bad if all you did last year was create or work or meet your goals. Our journey is ours and ours alone and it looks different for each and every one of us. Stop looking at the person next to you and comparing your progress to theirs. Instead, focus on your path and endeavor to be better than the person you were yesterday. You have your setbacks and thats ok. Allow yourself to rest. Just remember to get back up again. Fight. #30daysofcosplay 1. Your first cosplay? My first cosplay was Riza Hawkeye from Fullmetal Alchemist, back in 2006. I made the uniform myself, which was a victory as I had never sewn anything. Just seeing the sleeves on the jacket took two days of struggle. In 2016 I made Olivier Mira Armstrong from Fullmetal Alchemist as my "ten years of cosplay"-celebration cosplay :) For this I won the Craftsmanship award at the Närcon summer masters cosplay contest, which I am so proud of! Really proved how much I've improved over the years <3 #fma #fullmetalalchemist #cosplay #sewing

Day 25 of #30daysofcosplay The cosplay you put the most effort into Shido took the most effort into making Muffet. It was her first time making poseable arms & it was a huge trail & error. The mask was also a challenge since the snout was so short. Muffet is one of the cosplays Shido made by herself. The cape was especially challenging for her, since it was her first time making a cape, adding a linning, & doing trim. Finding the right shade of color for Muffet's skin was a huge challenge & we ended up ordering from online since the store discontinued the color. *📸: Onion cosplay and photography #fursuit #Undertale #Muffet #Muffetcosplay #Muffetundertale #cosplayersofinstagram #cosplay #costume #crossplayer #cosplayer #crossplay #photo #joannfabrics #cosplayphotography #throwback #geek #nerd #anime #manga #throwbackcosplay #katsu #katsucon (at Katsucon)

30 Days of Cosplay! Day 11: Something that I generally will never do in a cosplay is crossplay. I can bend the heck out of something and make a femme version, but because of my hips (as seen below) I don't make very convincing boys even though my face can be very andro at times. However I am planning on cosplaying Kurapika from HunterxHunter if I have the funds because I can easily hide my hips under his tunic and big pants! So doing Motoko was a really interesting journey for me, both costume-wise and activity-wise. I was cast as her in RCC at MetroCon 2016 and had a solo/duo during the robot battle, so I had to learn how to do isolations and aerials! On top of that, I had to make a costume that held up to the strain of being danced in, and I had never made a body suit before! My leg armour bits were a tad too tight because that fabric didn't stretch as much as the grey fabric did, so the belt had much more strain on it to keep them from falling down, so it literally fell apart right after our Sunday show! The wig was a lot of fun though, as it started out as a long, curly wig. I chopped off so much hair! I then straightened the remaining hair and started angling the cuts to get the really weird hair style that Motoko has in Stand Along Complex. #motoko #motokokusanagi #majorkusanagi #cosplay #30daysofcosplay #cosplayersofinstagram #ghostintheshell #standalonecomplex #hunterxhunter #kurapika

30 Days of Cosplay - Day Four
Patterns are a cosplayer’s best friend!
And worst enemy.
It is very rare to find a pattern that will 100% suit your cosplay idea perfectly. Even with the new lines of patterns that are designed to meet the needs of cosplayers, they will still need to be altered, freestyled, or Frankensteined with other patterns to get to be what it is you need. There are loads of video tutorials out there on how to alter sewing patterns that already exist and how to add detailing and other things to a pattern to suit your desired outcome. Don’t be afraid to explore uncharted territory either!
If you can’t find something that will help you figure out what you are wanting to get done, try to think of ways you can alter what you already have on your own. Don’t be afraid of mishaps and mess-ups, these are how you improve your skills as a DIY cosplayer! You will rip A LOT of seams, but you will grow in leaps and bounds in your understanding of fabric, patterns, clothes, and notions (sewing speak for all those other little bits – buttons, zippers, etc.).
Try something new, and give yourself plenty of time to take a few steps forward, then turn around, rip it all out, and try again. You will eventually find a way to accomplish your goal and the reward will be a cosplay unique to you!
So, while patterns can be a cosplayer’s worst enemy.
They can also be your first step towards a wonderful DIY cosplay!
Pattern Tips
1) Patterns usually come with set sizes on the package, so don’t forget to check the sizes vs what you need when buying a pattern.
2) Look for easy places to join two different patterns together. Places where there are natural seams work best, sleeves, collars, front vs back, or even sometimes side panels.
3) Photo boxes sold at craft stores are perfect for storing patterns in! They stand up nicely and can be flipped through to find the ones you need.
4) Old patterns that have been used too big to fit back into the original package? Fold them as nicely as you can and put all the pieces into a gallon baggie with the pattern picture on the front. This keeps all the parts together with an easy way to identify the pattern.
5) There are many patterns that have tutorial videos you can find online if you get stuck putting a pattern together.
6) When you are cutting out pattern pieces and putting them together, one of the best things to help keep your work station clean is the clear, plastic storage for scrap-booking. It allows an easy way to see what you have inside, while keeping all like parts together.
BONUS TIP: Most places that sell patterns will have sales where you can get them for about $1. This is an amazing deal as most patterns run from $10, all the way up to $25! Stock up on patterns that you think might come in handy in the future when you can!

Figured I’d jump on this band wagon to give my account a little activity. I’ll try to post a picture every day with my responses. . Day 1: My first official cosplay was the 11th Doctor from Doctor Who. I found most of it at the thrift shop but made the hat and bow tie myself. Wanted to meet Matt Smith in it but couldn’t afford to. Still really enjoyed the con though and it encouraged me to pursue cosplay further. . . . . . . . #30DaysOfCosplayChallenge #30DaysOfCosplay #FirstCosplayEver #cosplay #DoctorWho #11thDoctor #MattSmith #Throwback #costumer #costume #fezzesarecool #bowtiesarecool #cosplaygirl https://www.instagram.com/p/BoagkvAFfGG/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=id4ivxagp4mb
