Chapter 3: Wondering Around

It was two fifty one, and Ponyboy was in his and Soda's room. Irene was sitting on the couch in the living room, flipping through the channels on her t.v, board.

She heard her friend's voices. The front door was open, and a screen door kept the bugs out, but let the heat in. She looked over the couch, turned off the t.v, jumped up, and walked out.

"Hey," she said, leaning against the pole. Jenny walked up, and gave her a hug. Johnny gave her a hug and a kiss. Dally nodded at the youngest Curtis.

"Hey, you ready? Is your brother in there?" Dally asked. Irene nodded.

"Yeah, one sec, let me go get him, an' I'll be right out." She said, and ran inside.

Dally sighed, and leaned against the post of the Curtis gate. He pulled out a 'cancer stick', a cigaret, and put it between his lips. 'Cancer sticks' are what Irene called the cigs, and it stuck. Dally lit the cig, and offered Johnny one. Johnny shook his head.

"Irene’ll come out any time. She don't like seen' me smokn'." Johnny said. Jenny nodded.

"Neither do I, Johnny." Jenny said. Dally chuckled as he took a long drawl of his cig, and blew out.

Johnny looked at his sister, and smiled slightly.

"Yeah." Johnny glanced at Dally, and put his hands in his Jean-jacket pockets. Dally glanced at his best friend.

"Say, Johnny," Dally said, throwing the cig on the ground, and snuffing it out. Johnny looked at the taller Greaser.

"Yeah?" Johnny asked. Dally looked down at the ground then smirked at Johnny.

"Have you ever thought about, ya know, proposin' to Irene?" Dally asked. Johnny’s eyes widened slightly, then he blushed looking down at the ground. Jenny frowned at her friend.

“What kinda question is that?” She asked. Dally chuckled

“It’s exactly what it sounds like. I’m askin’ Johnny if he had ever thought about proposin’ to Irene.” Dally said. Johnny blushed slightly. He looked at the sky.

"Yeah, actually I have. I-I know that we’re too young, but I’ve been thinkin’ bout gettin’ her a promise ring. We've been goin' on since she was fourteen. I know she and I are sixteen but, she's my life. She's the only thing that keep me sane, ya know." Johnny said, his eyes glazed over with love, and caring.

"Whose given a promise ring to who now?" The trio turned around, and saw Ponyboy and Irene. Irene was the one who asked. Johnny smiled, and walked up to her, hugging her.

"No one, babe." Johnny said. She nodded, and forced a smile, thinking that he was hiding something from her. Dally looked at them.

"So, y'all ready to go?" Dally asked. Ponyboy nodded.

"Yeah, let's go." Ponyboy said. They walked around town for a while, causing mischief, and casing little kids around, because Dally hates kids, then, it was finally time for the movie to start. And that is where all the trouble started. With her.

(didn’t have a problem or anything, it’s just a personal choice I made for a couple reasons. I quit it at the same time I quit dairy and eggs). I occasionally drink the alcohol-free version of one of the ciders I used to like, cuz the flavor is nice, and nostalgic.

during one of my “why go to therapy when u can just Realize things about urself while talking to ur roommate for 3 hours” talks yesterday i was thinkin bout how like i tend to want to do everything on my own all the time (also ironically the reason i havent gone to therapy since i was little lmao) 

like i think advising at school has never been helpful and get frustrated when its required 

i just had to go to an advising thing to get a form signed and the lady was super sweet and everything and was very willing to help me but she was like you dont have anything else? and im like nope thats it. i plan all my shit on my own and ive got it covered 

and in our lowkey therapy session its like. i realized its prob my Childhood and how like my dad was always travelling for work and my mom had cancer and couldnt leave her bed so like i guess i just became independent early on and never want to like ask for help even when i need it
