Tumblr media
Jason Todd x gn!Reader || Domestic Fluff || Word Count: 758
Warnings: not completely proofread. Gun mention.
Tumblr media
Jason’s pulled himself out of a bad dream. Not quite a nightmare, though something eerily close.
It was one of those rare nights that he had off of patrol. One he where the two of you got to eat dinner together, watch some TV, get ready for bed, then fall asleep in your shared bed. He enjoyed the chances when he got them.
He laid on his stomach under the comfortably heavy duvet. His left arm was bent beneath his pillow, his hand grazing the hidden .44 he had convinced you to let him keep there, the other arm laying in front of him. He kept his eyes closed, clinging to his last tendrils of sleep.
All he needed was you back in his arms and his dreams would turn good again, filled with the smell of your soap and hints of faded perfume.
Slowly, he stretches his right arm out across the sheets, sleepily searching for your form. It drags along the sheets, his entire body only half-asleep.
He’s aware that there’s this… itch in his skin. Not a physical itch. An itch that can only be satisfied by having your arms around him again.
Jason Todd doesn’t count sheep. He counts your heart beats or your breathing. Sometimes both.
He must be laying further to the edge of his side of the bed than he thought. Usually, he doesn’t have to reach this far to get to you when you two drift apart in your sleep.
His hand grazes the wall. His eyes shoot open.
You aren’t in bed.
He pushes himself up with his elbows. A tired, confused, and slightly panicked frown settled on his face, his hair mussed up and flat on one side of his head.
The bedroom window is closed. The door is cracked open.
Then he notices the sound of the tap running in the kitchen.
Jason gets up and out of bed, moving languidly. He pads his way out of the bedroom and into the hallway.
His eyes squint at the light you had turned on as he stands in the doorway. All foggy panic he felt before faded away at the sight of you, filling a glass with water, standing in one of his shirts.
He shuffles his feet. A purposeful noise that he wouldn’t otherwise make as he went about his day, one to get your attention.
You turn around, your glass of water in your hand. You take notice of your boyfriend’s large stature filling the entryway, a sleepy pout on his lips. You give him a smile. He can tell you're trying not to laugh at his fatigued state.
“Want a glass, too?”
Jason shakes his head. He makes his way across the kitchen, his brows still furrowed against the light.
He just wants you back in bed with him.
He reaches for your glass after you sip from it. You hand it to him. Jason takes the cold glass in his right hand, bends down a little, and wraps his left arm tight around the bottom of your bum. He stands back up, now with you draped over his shoulder.
You squeal out a fit of laughter, "Jay!"
He flicks off the light as he exits the kitchen, makes his way back into the hall, then kicks the door to your bedroom shut as he carries you in.
Gently, he sets you back down on the edge of the bed. Once you're properly seated, he hands your water back for you to finish. Seeing your bright smile makes his own lips tug into a small one.
Jason rakes his hands through his hair as you drink. He rubs his hands over his face, digging the heels of his palms into his eyes from a moment, trying to shake a bit of the sleep still clinging to him.
You hand him back the nearly finished glass of water. He watches you shuffled back under the covers, moving over to the wall-side. Your side. He finishes off the last two gulps of your water and sets the glass on the night stand.
He follows you under the covers, immediately pulling you close. He presses a kiss to your cheek and drops his head into the crook of your neck, an arm draped around your waist, the other tucked under his pillow. He kisses your shoulder and gently squeezes your waist once.
Your arms settle around him, "If you wanted cuddles you could’ve just asked, you know."
Jason only grumbles an incoherent response. He shuffles and presses closer to you, holding you tight.
You kiss his forehead and Jason starts to count.
Tumblr media
Ahh!! I hope you like! This is lowkey rushed.
Also you can catch my personal headcanon of how Jason WILL keep his bed, with or without you in it, as far away from the window and door as possible. And you best believe that when you two share, you're getting the wall side so he can act as a barrier for any possible danger that may come in.

Cat HRT, -3 months
I decided to check my social medias before bed, and came across something… unexpected. A recommended tag of humanity removal therapy timelines. I decided to check them out, largely because of a tiger woman I saw in the tag header.
I clicked onto her profile and was surprised by the pang of longing I felt… realization that it was an option, to become an animal. I mulled over that fact as I read some of the others, but kept coming back to the tiger woman I saw. Seeing her felt like some chord was struck in my chest. Felt almost right, and that I wanted to be like her, but not quite.
I went to bed, thinking about the stories, and dreamed of being a cat, running through a forest. My own cats, Sprinkles, Buffy, Dipstick, Biscuits, and Ash ran beside me. In the dream, we ran for miles and miles, across fields, forest, and roads alike...
--------------------------
I woke up and got ready for work, and my mind drifted to what I’d read last night. I kept thinking about it all day, even as I was working. This distraction, this buzzing in my mind, persisted. That I should give it a try, to become what I want so badly but didn’t even realize what the swelling of feeling that had been growing in the back of my mind for years actually was. It felt similar to my realization that I was a man, but something else entirely.
After nearly a month of this back and forth and letting the feelings rest (or ignoring them), I decided on what to do. What I needed to do. After another week, I actually got the guts together to call and make an appointment with the same doctor as most of the others I’d seen.
I nearly put the phone down as it rang and I navigated the listed the menu options, but before I could chicken out entirely the receptionist answered.
“Hello, are you calling to schedule an appointment with Dr. Erian for humanity removal therapy?”
I tried not to sound too nervous, but my voice still cracked as I answered. “Yes, yes I am. I’d like to start as soon as I can.”
“We have an opening on December 16th for 2pm, would that work for you?”
“Yes, thank you.”
“Birthdate of the patient?”
“06 06, 2002.”
“Name?”
“James. Last name is…”
“Thank you, you’re all set. See you this December.”

we’re nearing the end of day three of the Team Dark Fest! here’s the number breakdown across the Twitter and Tumblr polls so far:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SHADOW: ~3,128 votes ROUGE: ~3,499 votes OMEGA: ~2,537 votes
ROUGE is now in the lead! great work so far, Rouge Warriors! however, let’s mix it up a bit with this brand new rule we’re adding:
Tumblr media
from now on, every piece of propaganda a character receives will add 30 votes to that character’s total vote count. the stuff YOU make to promote your favorite character now has a direct impact on the tournament’s outcome!
HERE'S THE DETAILS:
“propaganda” means anything you CREATE to root for your favorite character. this can be art of the character, photos, shitposts, anything as long as you made it!
you can also submit a short written argument/essay - however, it MUST have at least one source cited in MLA format. this is not a joke. and if you write an ENTIRE paper (at least 2ish pages double spaced) in MLA format WITH citations, we'll straight up give your character 100 votes. this is also not a joke, and the paper does not need to be well written. format your header like this:
Tumblr media
follow basic internet etiquette here: no reposting someone else’s art or work, and don’t be a jerk on anyone else’s propaganda. this is all in good fun!
any propaganda that has been made before this announcement WILL be counted! currently Omega is the character with the most propaganda.
every individual piece of propaganda will only be worth 30 votes, but if you make multiple DIFFERENT pieces of propaganda they will all be counted separately!
tag me in your propaganda so i can count it! however, if you tag me in a bunch of stuff that is very clearly low effort spam, i’m not counting it lol
make sure to post your propaganda before the polls end at 2pm EST on September 16th!
thank you all again for participating! we have 4 days left to go - keep fighting, team dark nation!

Whats your advice for other wip ifs on tumblr? Ive got my intro post and everything but it seems like no one is seeing it :(
🥹😭 I'm flattered you think I'm qualified to answer this, especially as I don't consider myself wildly popular or anything! I wouldn't call myself an expert on this, but I'll tell you what I know:
Tumblr's tagging system / Discoverability
Make sure you're searchable! If your blog is too young, or if you have links in your post, or too many pictures, etc. etc. anything can trigger Tumblr's alarm bells. What this means is that your post won't show up in the tags, aka won't be shown when people search it up. Here is a post about actions you can take to prevent it and another one here. Generally you want your blog to be older than 2 weeks, and to be posting a few times on it before it gets any searchability. (This sideblog used to be an old fanfic blog that I've repurposed for the IF for this exact reason!). If you'd like, copy and paste your intro post, and re-post it (if you don't mind losing too many notes on it), or you can just experiment with another post. Tag it with the appropriate tags, and then wait 2-3 minutes before searching Recent posts on the tag (like #interactive fiction). If you don't see it, your posts aren't showing up!
Make sure you're tagging your post. Bigger one of them, I think, is #interactive fiction (since that unifies CS, Twine and visual novels together). You can, however, add things like #twine/#choicescript, #twine fiction, etc... Any tags you personally might use to search posts up. Just make sure people can see your post in the first place with the first bullet above!
Timing. For whatever reason, I get a good amount of traffic around 9PM Pacific time/5-7AM in Europe (UK to Greece)/12-2PM Eastern Asia (Philippines to Sydney, Australia). I have friends from those places, so I memorized the time difference. For reference, this is 4PM UTC time. My guess is that Europeans are waking up a couple of hours around that time, and some Americans and Asians/Australians are active around that time as well. You should experiment with timing with your posts!
Submit your post to Interact-IF. I got more notes when I submitted mine through their blog! They have a page called, "Are you an IF author looking to promote your project?" and they'll put yours through the queue. Here's the link!
Formatting
Make sure your post is eye-catching, and a pleasure to read. I think what catches the eye is
A header and a title. Find a header that conveys your IF's atmosphere/mood/vibes/aesthetic. Then as far as making it a pleasure, make sure the text guides the eye smoothly. This means:
Organizing your post logically. Synopsis->features->characters makes the most sense to me, as these are the top things people look for besides the characters, which you have to contextualize before you introduce them! You can also...
Mix up formatting--synopsis can be a wall of text, then features can be a list format, and then characters can be a list in prose format, etc.
You may also include breaks, like using a header or line with a title to signal a new section, e.g. the start of the Synopsis, the start of Characters, etc.
Just don't make it hard to read for whatever reason! Your goal is to make the process of learning about your IF digestible and smooth.
In fact, I made a point to make this post itself as a teaching lesson! It could have all been a wall of text, in paragraph/prose form, but it isn't. I organized the sections in a logical sequence, titled them and grouped them, and used a generous amount of formatting available to me (but not too much to hurt the eye).
Intro Writing
Just to discuss certain sections you should pay particular attention to, and what you may want to include in them!
Check for errors. Minimize any typos, grammatical errors, etc. It's totally fine if you're a beginner writer! Just make sure it's polished, lest it may disrupt the flow of reading.
Write an interesting synopsis. Your idea could be the best, but you need to put real thought into how you introduce it to other people! For me, I read other people's synopses for inspiration. You generally want to a) describe who your MC is, b) describe the setting, c) "Everything used to be..." d) "... Until the fire nation attacked!" -- meaning, describe how life used to be for the MC, and what threw all that off-balance, hence revealing the conflict of the plot or the disruption in the story. You can make this section show your writing abilities, but I constrained myself to shortening mine as much as possible (digestibility).
Features. Again, look at other intro posts! Outline what can be customized about your MC (appearance, personality, sexuality, etc.), a brief mention of the ROs (without names) that can be romanced if there are any, cool features your IF may have (a codex, a dice rolling system), a sneak peek into what readers may expect to do in the story, and more!
ROs!! You'll want to tap into what personally inclines you to liking an RO right away, and include that. You can make this section as detailed as you want to be or as brief but effective. Some include character appearances, some don't. All of them mention who they are in the story, and a description of what they are like. Maybe you can hint at their deeper, individual character subplot! Hitting upon keywords of certain archetypes as well may make it easier for the reader to go, "Ah, so this is the X character," in the story. Leaning on tropes a little isn't bad, especially to play it up for the audience to know "this is the cold one, this is the flirty one, etc." so long as your characters aren't merely their trope.
Your Story
Did you notice this is the last thing I'm discussing? Before you change your actual story, you want to make sure you've considered every reason why your intro post isn't very public, which may have NOTHING to do with how interesting or appealing your story is. Think of it like chess--the last thing you want to do is move your king. It's also just simply harder and disheartening to change the vision of your story.
In fact, the vast majority of things covered here are only points to consider, rather than things to actually change.
Do you have a demo? People want demos before investing into a story! a) They want to know if they will like your writing at all, b) demos give a good look into what they may expect from the story overall, and c) it's more promising for an IF to have one, as far as actually finishing the story!
And if you do have a demo, is it polished? Is it short? Does it actually introduce the conflict or any of the characters people are interested in? Does it look good?
Who really is your target audience? Your story is probably written for yourself, but you may want to understand what generally appeals to people. You can't please everyone, hence mainly appealing to a certain audience. If your story is high-fantasy, people want you to mention all the fantastical things your MC can do, see or experience in your story! If your IF is a revenge story, make the MC feel dangerous, and capable of exacting their plans. Mention everything people would WANT to know about your brand of story.
What's the gender ratio of your ROs? The fact that your story may be exclusively/vastly heterosexual, or your story may specifically be a wlw or nlw/mlm or nlm story may influence how much reach it has. I hate to say it, but IFs with mainly male characters are in abundance compared to female interests. However, this doesn't mean you should change your ROs, especially if you intend the story to be heterosexual/lesbian/gay--this is just a factor to consider.
Consider other factors. Does your story have any actual romance? (People really like romance.) Is it only going to be short? (People like long stories generally.) Are you using Twine or CS? (Most people like both, some may have a preference. I almost exclusively read Twine.) Will it feature very disturbing content? (If it does, it may appeal only to certain people).
Closing Thoughts
I am flattered you asked for advice, so I took the time to exhaust everything I know! Of course, again, I am no authority or expert on the subject, so do with this as you will. Either way, I'm happy you asked ! 🥹💕 Thanks for asking!
P.S. If you want, my messages are open on my personal blog! You can send me a DM if you want feedback or an opinion :)

June 2023 MacGyver Flashfic Writealong FAQ
Tumblr media
FAQ last updated: May 31, 2023
What is this thing?
It’s a writing “challenge” where you write a flash fic, ideally for MacGyver fandom. By “flash fic” I mean something <1000 words, but like most other “rules” of the writealong, it’s not set in stone. Make of it what you will!
Why are we doing this?
Look, I want to try my hand at writing some flash-sized fanfics (a big change from my 10k+ normal fic size). So I’m inviting all the MacGyver writers to play along with me. It’s like peer pressure, except everybody wins because everybody gets new fics to read. Yay!
How will it work?
There will be a prompt for every day from June 8-June 19 2023, with a “catch up” day on June 14. That’s 11 days of prompts. The prompts will be posted about a day in advance of the target posting date.
What if I miss the target date? Can I post it later?
Heck yeah!
Is this a whump challenge thing?
No, write whatever you want. Variety is the spice of life and one of my favorite things about this fandom. ❤️ I’ll probably write h/c but everybody is welcome to play along. Ship all your ships. Smut it up if you wanna. Just tag your stuff appropriately.
What about AI-generated or assisted fic?
This challenge has ONE hard and fast rule: absolutely NO AI generated or AI assisted fic. Write it yourself or don’t participate.
I wrote a thing! When do I post it?
Any time on or after the day the prompts were for. For example, if you wrote a story using the June 10 prompts, post it on June 10 (your local time) or whenever you have it ready after that.
Where should it be posted?
Tumblr or AO3 ideally. But do whatever you want with your fic! This is supposed to be fun. And maybe less stressful than other challenges? Or more, you decide.
Is there an AO3 collection?
The collection is June 2023 MacGyver Flashfic Writealong. Please add your story! :)
What about Tumblr tags?
Event tag: #MacGyver Flashfic Writealong
Day tag: #june 10  (for the day the prompts were “for”, regardless of when you post ‘em)
What are the prompts?
The prompts are set to post at 2pm PT (UTC-7) 2 days before the day they’re for. For example, the prompts for June 8 were posted at 4pm PDT on June 6 in that timezone. There are also a few alternate prompts in case the day’s prompts aren’t inspiring you.
Prompts so far: June 8 | June 9 | June 10 | June 11 | June 12 | June 13 | June 14 | June 15 | June 16 | June 17 | Alternates
How do I participate?
Write a thing related to the prompts and post it. :) Tag this blog if you want it reblogged.
Who’s running this thing?
It’s meeee, @rosieblogstuff. 👋 With big thanks to @authorangelita for the header image idea.

Thoughts at 3pm...
Oof what a day...
It really started last night when the rains came hard. Fun fact: when the rains move in, my headache changes! The pressure behind my left eye which is normally above and to the inside becomes a heavy pressure on the outside of my eye. I also feel the pain in my joints, my back, my ... everything!
So I finished my book last night and started a new one... and... it's good and not good. I'm 17% in and I think I just need to get through the opening chapters.
Here's the pro's - he's a good story teller and has good pacing. He's a totally weird/interesting dude with experiences I want to know more about.
Here's the con's - Oof... there are issues with punctuation and typos in a big way. Not completely unreadable, but it's.. a thing. The major issue is that books need to either be a collection of stories, or a linear story. There has to be structure!!!! This book has none! Like the first chapter starts with him joining the navy and wildly veers off to his PTSD after the war, and what he's doing now. Like... wait... that's cool and all but... you were just talking about your first days and now we're at your last days, with no middle or connection or explanation?
Reading the chapter headers it seems the later chapters are better.
So I got 17% in, while also watching youtube vids and all of a sudden it was 4am! And then... after a bathroom break it was 530am... Sigh.
I do want to mention that my previous book was really good but also irksome! It was a collection of essays supposed to be about a specific topic that I really wanted to read about. Instead of the like 10 essays, 2 were on the topic, the rest were of.... wow... just anything tangentially related in the smallest way! Like it was supposed to be about the brown water navy in vietnam conducting riverine warfare. One long essay was about a guy who basically rode on a river patrol boat a couple of times to get from point a to point b, but most of the essay was about him teaching the vietnamese to play volleyball. Yeah... you read that right. His entire "war experience" was going from village to village and base to base and setting up volleyball courts and teaching people to play.
So... yeah... there was that.
There was one incredibly excellent essay by someone whose book I own but have not read, and it was about the Chinese involvement in the war which I have to admit, I know incredibly very little about. So this was a big eye opening essay that I really enjoyed. But... still not related to the topic at all. lol
So that was overnight. I probably got to sleep off and on around 530 and then was up at 8 and again at 9 where I ended up in the bathroom for over an hour as my stomach decided to be a total bitch. I tried to stay up, watch football and racing, get my day started, but I just couldn't. My headache and everything was just too bad.
I don't know when I actually got up... it was probably closer to 2pm. I slept a bit, but mostly just rested which was needed.
The problem is - my brain isn't working at all today. I keep losing stuff, misplacing stuff. We tore the house apart looking for my camera sd cards. We can't find the mushrooms I know we got. If it's not one thing, it's another. I don't feel any more fuzzy/foggy than usual, I just feel slightly off centered and I can't recall anything like where things are. I keep putting stuff down and 0 short term memory.
It's just... all off. I'm tired, i'm hungry, and I hurt.
