okay......anime. I'm sending a lot because I'm not entirely sure what you like? perhaps none of these? please ignore it as needed haha I am mainly getting it out of my system.

SERIOUS FARE - drama, action, adrenaline, feelings

Cowboy Bebop (1 Season, Complete) - slick, gritty, moody, jazzy, impeccably animated. neo-noir space-western about a crew of oddballs on a little spaceship just trying to get by. sometimes goofy, sometimes sad, always a favorite.

Chainsaw Man (1 Season So Far) - an impoverished, immature young man whose dreams include "eating some nice food" and "touching a girl" finds himself swept up in a career that allows him to do both those things and more, to varying degrees of satisfaction. also he can turn his body into chainsaws. it's coming-of-age it's horror it's action it's more found family it's good.

Violet Evergarden (1 Season, Complete) - some controversial choices were made for the adjacent movie, but the show is so good even standing alone. a traumatized child soldier slowly reconnects with her emotions by writing letters for other people. that's basically the whole story. made me cry a lot.

THE FUNNY PAGES - for when you need a laugh!

Spy x Family (1 Season, 2nd Incoming) - a delightful situational comedy set in Definitely Not Cold War Germany about a spy, his cover wife whom he does not know is an assassin, and his adopted daughter whom he does not know is a psychic. featuring moments of genuinely compelling found family connection.

Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun (1 Season, Complete) - a girl summons the courage to confess to her crush. a series of misunderstandings ensues and doesn't stop ensuing. more mistaken identity goofiness, a cast full of charming dumbasses, and some insights into life as a manga artist. also another bangin theme song.

TOASTY'S TOP 3 - my absolute favorites

Vinland Saga (2 Seasons, 3rd Seemingly Confirmed) - you follow me so you are probably at least aware of this and whether it looks like something you'd enjoy but I have to include it. a viking-era tale of trauma, war, revenge, redemption, masculinity, religion, politics, philosophy, and more! season one is the prologue, where the antagonist is (imo) the secret main character. season two answers the unmitigated violence of season one with the povs of normal working people who end up as collateral damage, and also pays off one of season one's earliest setups in a huge fantastic way imo. it's idealistic without ever failing to acknowledge the pain that comes when idealism meets reality. I love it.

Run With the Wind (2 Seasons, Complete) - there aren't a whole lot of sports anime for older audiences, but this is one of them and I rewatch it on a yearly basis. you have to kind of slow yourself down for it--most shonen sports anime are brisk, high-octane fun-times, but this one (a college-age series about the most Underdog of Underdog Track Teams) really takes its time building up the characters and environment, and chemistry between the dual opposites-attract leads is so heartwrenchingly beautiful. they complete each other! they love each other! what does it mean to run? why do we run even if we know we can't win?! the answers to these things are found within each other!!

Mob Psycho 100 (3 Seasons, Complete) -slapstick, drama, mindblowing action scenes--this is another one that needs a little time to start showing you what it is, but there's so much heart in this dang show. a hymn to all things mundane and ordinary, a rumination on the dangers of suppressing one's emotions, a story about a middle schooler who tries not to use his Unlimited Psychic Powers and a fraud exorcist who pretends to have powers but doesn't. absolutely worth the watch.

BONUS LIGHTNING ROUND

Shirobako (a stressfully/excellently accurate anime about the anime industry, the only cute-girls-doing-cute-things show I like), Keep Your Hands off Eizouken (weird girls making amateur anime in high school), Blue Period (for if you want to have an existential crisis about ART), Kaiji (Squid Game before Squid Game), The Great Pretenders (Robin Hood-ass confidence artists pulling off HEISTS), Haikyuu (my favorite younger-audiences sports anime, get hype for VOLLEYBALL), Beastars (the Furry One, gorgeous 3d animation, dark and weird and wild), and Neon Genesis Evangelion (surreal horror sci-fi/fantasy, "mechs" vs. apocalyptic "angels", I haven't seen it but it's a standard and also I've been told not to watch it while depressed)

my high school creative writing teacher? awesome, really encouraged me to play with the medium and experiment and get a little freaky with it. loved my 2nd person POV stuff or my assignments written on cocktail napkins

college creative writing professor? got scared when a character in my sf/f story used a neo pronoun, explained to me they my writing should be more palatable to the reader so that i dont upset them

Do you think Koichi Sakamoto have been ruining or destroying the Showa Universe since 2009 with his awful Galaxy movie?

Cause he is BIAS on his favorite Leo Bros where everytime they appear they seem to be pefect fighters that CAN'T NEVER LOSE only causa they are his favorite but everyone else who aren't his favorites such as (Ultra Bros, Powered, Neos, Max, Mebius etc) most be treated like Shit in comparision so let's take a look on his record:

Ultra Galaxy Legend Movie: EVERYONE GOT NERFED in favor of Zero who was the Weakest character at the time and Leo Bros got saved by the same fate cause they are Sakamoto's Favorites.

Ultra Fight Victory: Ace lost but the Leo Bros always keep badass and Never lost cause they are Sakamoto's Favorites.

Ultra Fight Orb: Jack and Zoffy combined forced only GRABED Tyrant for save time for ZERO and a new Orb form do the Job and then leaving Jack and Zoffy behind like if they are Useless.

Ultraman Geed: Father of Ultra got the same treatment as Jack and Zoffy cause he only Grabed Belial to make a fucking Shild then he is Useless again.

Ultra Galaxy Fight 2: Ultra Bros got beaten AGAIN By Belial but this time with Tregear together with Both in early stylies and Powered up by Tartarus.

Ultra Galaxy Fight 3: Zoffy, Man, Jack, Ace, Taro and Mebius can't never have the right to Fight Tartarus but Leo Bros have cause they are Sakamoto's favorites and only Let Seven fight Tartarus cause he is related to Leo and Zero which also lead to Bias treatment where Man, Jack, Ace and Mebius ONLY FIGHTS WEAKER MINIONS.

like Seriously what the Fuck this guy is even thinking?

He always seems to underestimate the Power of the Ultra Brothers or any other character that isn't his favorite just to make Leo Bros, Zero, Geed, Ribut shine which I find very unsatisfactory because it seems like M78's Ultraman since Galaxy Legend Movie looks more like a Sakamoto Fantasy rather than Ultraman that we used to know

Tbh Im actually fine with Sakamoto lol since there are explanations for the points you mentioned (at least copiums)

(Totally non-biased POV since Sakamoto is my fav director since hes the best at directing fight scenes)

But ya the first Zero movie was an issue cause in my headcanon (lol) King probably amped him up before he left to face Belial. And normal kaiju themselves are actually all fodder to the average ultra, much more the Ultra Brothers, and them being nerfed to not make fights short is already an accepted standard, so any members should have been able to dispose the kaiju the same way that Zero. Not to mention we can still say that they are still weakened from their first fight against Belial (we this very often that blue color timer dosent neccessary mean they are in peak fighting condition, see Arc's own explanation in ep 14 as the latest example)

Furthermore, Zero was amped by the Plasma Spark midway too

We also need to take into account the fact that Belial was also probably imprisoned for 30 000 years and was literally fighting absolutely everyone and made a nonstop journey to revive the 100+ kaiju

We can see his true strength even during Omega Armageddon, Base Belial was able to defeat Ultimate Zero (imo in the 2nd movie, Ultimate was either buffed due to first usage and/or Arch Belial was intrinsically nerfed becauss note that Kaiser had a scar that could not recover, which is weird for Ultras since we know that they can recover scars easily so we know he was incredibly weakened atm)

Secondly, for UFV, Leo Brothers were also having some difficulty facing the chojus no? Not to mention Ace was understandably caught off guard by Victory Killer which at the end they both ended off on a strong note by finish Super Grand King Spectre together

Thirdly, Jack did mention that Tyrant was amped by Reibatos at the time so Jack and Zoffy mightve fought Tyrant for quite a while to weaken it before Seven, Zero and Orb ES came to finish the job

Fourthly ah this I was pissed as well, but they mentioned that Ken and Belial Atrocious did fight within the barrier for 24hrs before it deactivated and Ken lost, they just didnt protray it well and it just seemed like he was just holding Belial within it lol

UGF2 I rmb I did address this tho that PI belial is still at least 130 000 years old, him even without PI Toregia and AT amp would be able to solo all the Ultra Brothers regardless, even if they werent weakened first from fusing into Super Taro, refer to this for more details:

UGF3 I think its cause the Zero vs AT was marketed as one of the 3 main matchups anyways, like with Ribut vs Titan and Regulus vs Diablo. Not to mention there are just so many characters (iirc Sakamoto said 100 ultra suits are used in UGF3) so they can really afford to only involve those related to Zero to take turns fighting AT

(Not to mention each Elite Absolutian is scaled to at least around 2 UBs, refer to powerscaling post for details)

Not to mention we need to probably get our head around the fact that Zero is indeed a prodigy, that is able to punch above his age class, not to mention he has received permanent amps from the Plasma Spark itself as well as the Ultimate Aegis, this puts him on par with an Ultra about 10 000 years older than him. This is something I have an easier time accepting since my favorite ultra himself, Taro was a stated prodigy that could also scale with ultras about 10 000 years older or even beyond as well. So while it would be a valid point to say that Zero has too much attention, but we cant really say that hes not intrinsically strong himself.

But just not yet stronger than UBs, as we've seen that even at the Wild Burst - US Zero wasnt able to do as well against AT as Seven did

Ngl this all seems like copium but I was able to rely on these so as to not ruin the experience for me and it has worked over the past decade or so at least lol

"Chris?" Leon asks, lowering his gun. "Chris Redfield?"

Chris is staring, can't help it. Neo-Umbrella must have shot him up with their fountain of youth bullshit that they've been experimenting with, rendering him back a decade and a half. Jesus, but he'd forgotten how *young* Leon had been back then. No, he hadn't forgotten-- he just hadn't known. As much as it feels like he's always been this worn down, Chris was young once, too. They both were. Facing the proof of it just makes him feel that much more tired.

beginning to end: act ii (Doc Jameson POV):

He's not a good person. He knows that. People with stronger morals faced with this situation wouldn't cave like he has, wouldn't then try to convince themselves that they were doing it to *help* Leon, wouldn't argue that at least they wouldn't make him hurt unnecessarily. Horseshit, all of it. If Nile ever finds out that he put her life above an innocent person's, she'll do a lot more than kill him.

What makes it even worse is that Leon isn't even mad, has seemed almost relieved to see him. And now, with Freddie taking up an ornamental role and perfunctorily holding Leon's head still, all the other man has done is try to get his help with his after-death plans. Get his body to Chris Redfield. Have Hunnigan give him the ring. God.

That, he thinks, is what does it, what finally shakes him out of this panic-induced fugue state that he's been existing in for the last little while. He loves Nile, loves her past death, but he isn't the man she fell in love with right now. He can be that man again, though, can be the person that she believes in.

He's trying not to cry when the decision clicks into place in his mind, just says tightly, "Yeah, man. I can do that."

broken machine (Hunnigan POV):

When Leon goes, he takes a part of her with him. She's spent so long with her hand in his, hiding their linked fingers from sight and trying her best to keep him together, to bring him back to himself. Half the time, he doesn't remember anything important about who he used to be, though, and he's clearly disregarded some of her attempts. Fine and functional have been the most commonly used words in his lexicon.

She wants him to be better than 'fine,' though. She wants him happy, angry, anything so long as he's safe and still alive. He has a sun for a heart, she knows, and it's burning inside him without anywhere to go. She's heard things about the BSAA, though. Hopefully they'll have better luck than she did. Hopefully someone there will love him more than she was able to.

She wants to say 'Thank you.' She wants to say 'I'll miss you.' She wants to say a million things that she's never put into words because she thought that if nothing else they had time. There was always supposed to be more time.

"Dismissed, Kennedy," is what she ends up saying, and only because Agent Brand is standing at her shoulder.

"Ma'am," Leon says. "Sir."

Then he turns on his heel and walks into the airport, headed for a commercial flight to another country and an organization full of strangers. Brand checks his watch and gets into the backseat of the car. Ingrid watches Leon go, wishing desperately that he would turn around, would *see* her waiting for him one last time, but he doesn't. She gets into the backseat with Brand and slams the door shut, wondering if she'll ever see Leon Scott Kennedy again.

Look Behind You (Hunnigan POV):

Leon has never been afraid of her. He's been intimidated, maybe, when he knows that he's been an idiot and that she's walking toward him to slap him upside the head to temper the urge to throttle him, but he's never been really, truly afraid. He kicks out at her approach and goes scrambling backwards over the hospital bed; despite his reaction she still lunges forward to catch him, but--

Chris gets there first. He collects Leon into a bundle of limbs and holds him close, rocking him, murmuring to him lowly as Leon's wild eyes flash around the room. The skim past Ingrid's face but don't stop, not even to be afraid, calming under Chris's hands, drooping into the heat of the embrace. Watching it makes her feel completely and utterly useless, like she serves no purpose at all if she can't even calm down the man she's closest to in all the world.

She knows why he reacted the way he did. She does. It doesn't make it any easier.

Since it's been on my mind and you have requests open still- (I think if not I'm sorry)

Any headcanons for the AU that people mentioned, that was Kris with a player that basically just treats them respectfully, shares the control, and just tries to help them as much as they can-? If this is too little, maybe stuff about how others react to Kris possibly acting weird while they're just trying to talk to the player/the Player had taken control at the time and failed to act like Kris well enough?

Oh absolutely!! Since the Player's technically us I'll refer to them in 2nd person pov (and I'll base these hcs off of my experiences guiding Kris in the game)

"I won't rush you through these obstacles, you take your time."

"...really?"

"Really. I trust you'll get past them easier. I suck at timing."

Kris is honestly surprised you're letting them have this much control over themselves. Trying to get past those damn Scissor Dancers was always a pain, but without your input they can safely find their own way around.

"Damn, another Virovirokun circling around this area. I almost bumped into them last time."

"Lemme navigate around them for you."

In turn you control them in a way that helps them safely pass enemies they don't feel like encountering.

Sharing this control is..nice. They can act like themselves and not feel like they can only listen to you.

Kris talks to you mentally, sometimes muttering to themselves so their friends don't get worried. They're unable to say who they're talking to, but it's no fault of your own. They just can't.

Of course though, they still despise the idea that they'll never truly be free of your control no matter how kind you are to them.

When you go through with holding up Spamton's deal and cut his NEO form's strings, the realization hits Kris in the face harder than any Pipis attack:

The battle was difficult and grueling, and without your guidance they simply couldn't survive all of that. And it makes them feel like such a helpless puppet who can't function without you. It didn't help that Spamton still couldn't be free in the end, either.

It makes them cry and shout "NO" at the top of their lungs when asked if they're okay, and it hurts your heart. But you wanted them to be honest with their friends.

After the adventures, back in Hometown and alone in their room, Kris talks to you openly. And they're usually very moody about their situation, so much so that they'll rip out their own SOUL to prove a point.

You understand their anger, though (plus teens like them can be moody about being told what to do and how to ACT).

But no matter what, you'll help them do the right thing and give them as much freedom as possible, only intervening if need be.

It's not a perfect puppet-master relationship. But it's a good start.

Puppet Waltz - Some Random Thoughts

It is now currently Oct. 2nd at 4:09 AM and I am writing this out because I have the energy. This is mostly going to be a post sharing the random thoughts stewing around in my head. And I will now be sharing as many as I can. The New Addisons: I mentioned in the previous post I had that I made some Addison OCs and, yeah. They exist. They're present and I think they're very cool. So lemme list them off. Red - Red, with the name of Adrian, is the first of the new Addisons and uses She/Her Pronouns. What she advertises is stuff mainly focused around weapons. Things like halberds, boxing gloves, swords, a lot of things. She's very proud of this stuff but she doesn't like hanging around the other Addisons. Not because she dislikes their whole dynamic, but because she's just so focused on making sure everything about her craft is right. Purple - Purple, with the name Adonis, is the second of the new Addisons and uses They/Them pronouns. Further, they're also the second tallest Addison with the third one that I will mention shortly, being the tallest. Adonis very much advertises for various gardening supplies as well as a main flower shop. But they also partially advertise for different horror movies. It's certainly very interesting finding them sometimes. They're completely cool with the main Addisons and their found family dynamic but wanted to make a new group. Adonis and Adrian are actually pretty good friends. Lime - Lime, with the name of Adio, is the third and one of the last new Addisons I've made and uses He/Him pronouns. Of all the Addisons, he is by far the tallest, even taller than the ones that already existed. Adio's advertisements are for an organization that involves research into helping Monsters that have "Fallen Down" and Humans that difficult to treat/presently incurable illnesses residing in their SOULs. He became a close member of the main Addison dynamic while also being good friends with Adonis and a friendly rival with Adrian. He's generally very nice and patient because he understands how hard things can be sometimes. Though...everyone wishes his ads didn't get discontinued. Even if it was for a "rework", they miss him every day. Okay! So those are the three Addisons that I created and wanted to share. But I felt bad that I didn't do it last post. So there's that and I'm glad I've done it. Now onto the next stuff! What is Spamton and Kris' deal in this AU? Well. To put it simply, they become good friends as the story progresses in this AU. To be more detailed about it(and I'm not sure if I've already mentioned this so please forgive me).... Kris encounters Spamton NEO but, before any fight can occur, Spamton's dialogue changes. He says completely new things. KRIS. I NOTICED THAT YOU SEEMED TO [Shake] AND [Tremble] WHILE WAITING FOR ME TO [Transfer] INTO MY [Workout-Ready Body]! Kris says nothing. Spamton NEO then turns and raises both his arms up grabbing and pull on one of his strings. THESE STRINGS. WHY? WHY DO I HAVE THESE [Strings Attached] TO ME? SHOULDN'T I FINALLY HAVE IT, KRIS? MY [Freedom]? WHY AM I STILL JUST A [Puppet] ON THESE [!?$!]ING STRINGS?! WHY IS IT SO DARK? SO....SO DARK....? There's a pause in Spamton NEO's words as his head moves up and down and his arms spin rapidly. Kris begins to tremble more but they seem to be trying to repress their emotions. Eventually, Spamton NEO speaks again. KRIS. THERE IS SOMETHING I NEED TO KNOW. BUT I CAN'T FORCE YOU TO ANSWER. I CAN'T. I WON'T TRY TO FORCE YOU. BUT. He turns around, now facing Kris. He notices their trembling and his head tilts. YOU'RE [Shaking in your boots] KRIS. THEN THAT MAKES MY QUESTION MORE [Important]. His body sways closer to Kris. Kris doesn't move. KRIS. He moves closer. Kris doesn't move, but their trembling worsens. THAT [[SOUL]] YOU HAVE. CALL IT A [Hunch] BUT. HAVE YOU [Lost control of your life]] BECAUSE OF IT? Kris' mouth noticeably moves and they collapse onto the tracks. Then, suddenly, a black box appears with two different choices and The SOUL in the center. And, although faint, Spamton

NEO can see this. He sees The SOUL flickering between these two options. And he also sees Kris' trembling becoming worse. And so he does the first thing that comes to mind. He destroys the box with a single [BIG SHOT]. And as though it were on autopilot....he speaks something that feels natural to him. I WAS TALKING TO KRIS. I DON'T THINK I ASKED [[YOU]] FOR INPUT. BUT. THIS GIVES ME ALL THE ANSWERS I COULD EVER NEED. YOU'RE A [HEART] ON A [CHAIN]. A [PUPPET]. JUST....like....[Me]. Fun fact! Most of this dialogue is based off a dream I had where I was watching from an outsider's perspective. Not from Spamton's POV, not from Kris' not even from The SOUL's. I could see every angle, like I was a camera circling the scene itself. It was incredible. Even the way his voice seemed to echo in the long hall of tracks. Every rustle of clothing from Kris' side of things, to Spamton's occasional creak and groan, to the whooshing his arms made whenever they made a full circle. Even the sounds the wires made sounded so....real. It felt like I was really there. Funny how that works out. There's a lot more to this that I wanna share but I don't want to write a post that takes two days to complete so I'll leave this here.

POV: 3rd person since this is part of my recent writing before coronavirus made us its prisoners.

Word count: 1,200 + words

Warning: This is fluffy as hell, and this is a Johnny/Essie piece before they got together.

Recommended listening: Do I even need to say it? Stream Love Song, you guys! I repeated it over and over until I finished writing this.

Who would’ve thought that sharing an umbrella would spark something between two friends?

It was already the rainy season, and Johnny hated it. He didn’t like lugging around an umbrella, which he thought added unnecessary weight to his bag. He’d rather wear a cap instead, but knew that wouldn’t do anything to protect him from even the lightest of rains.

Essie, on the other hand, was alright with it. She was used to constant rains since it was the only other season she had in her home country. She was always equipped with a small umbrella inside her bag, and if the weather forecast reported that there would be heavy rains, she stuffed her parka into it as well.

The two were about to meet for their usual Starbucks hangout, but then it suddenly rained hard. Johnny groaned at how unfortunate this was, frowning at the large droplets that decorated his window.

Oh man, it’s raining. I hate it, he texted Essie, leaning against the wall and looking at the dreary landscape outside his apartment with disdain.

Aw, it’s fine. Just wear your raincoat and bring an umbrella. And don’t forget to waterproof your stuff too, just in case, was her reply a few seconds later, making him groan louder.

This woke up his roommate Mark, who was sleeping on the sofa. “Hey, what’s up, hyung?”

“Hey Mark, it’s raining. Essie and I are supposed to meet at Starbucks today,” Johnny replied, pointing to the window with his thumb.

“No wonder I feel like sleeping some more,” the younger guy mumbled, lying down on the couch again and wrapping himself in the thick blanket by his foot.

“Ugh, this sucks. I can’t stand the rain,” the older guy whispered to no one in particular, staring at his window until the rain started to calm down.

After a few more text exchanges, Essie decided to pick up Johnny at his apartment. You’re a big guy yet you can’t handle the rain, she messaged him, her annoyance evident in her tone.

Hey, what’s it to you? I really don’t like it, babe. I’m sorry I have to make you do this, but I promise, I’ll return the favor tenfold, he replied, rolling his eyes at how irate she sounded in her message.

Well, have you experienced getting your home flooded? I would get it if you have trauma because of that, but never mind. I’m already on my way, was her last message which he didn’t have anything to say back.

He has read the news that it is common for her home country to get flash floods during the monsoon season, which made him wonder if her house there has indeed been flooded before.

Essie arrived a few minutes past 2 p.m. and was completely dry (and cozy) in her olive green parka. She gave Johnny a silent wave once he opened the door.

“Hey, baby,” he pulled her a bit closer to him and kissed the top of her head. “Thanks for doing this. I’ll make it up to you,” he hooked one arm around her waist and closed the small gap between them.

“Uh, thanks,” she mumbled, leaning her cheek against his shoulder. “But we better get a move on. The rain might get stronger soon..” She pried herself off him and took out the umbrella that she stuffed on the exterior pocket of her jacket.

When she opened it, Johnny laughed. “Essie, how will we fit in that?” The girl’s umbrella was good for one person, cramming two would result in one’s shoulders getting drenched.

“That’s why I said you should wear your parka,” she sighed, stepping away from his doorway. “Let’s go, Mr. Suh.”

Usually, it took them 10 to 15 minutes to walk to the nearest Starbucks. However, since it was raining, it felt like forever.

Essie insisted to be the one to hold the umbrella, despite hitting Johnny’s head numerous times with it. “Baby, please,” he grumbled, “let me hold the freaking umbrella. You know I can definitely cover both our heads with it without injuring the other.”

“This is part of my service to you, sir,” she replied, accidentally hitting his head again with the umbrella. “Sorry about that!” She giggled at the sight of her companion rubbing his head and making faces on how it hurt.

If he was being honest with himself, he wasn’t hurt by the times she hit his head repeatedly. He was enjoying every time their shoulders bumped into each other as they walked. He pretended to be hurt initially, but when he didn’t get a reaction from her, he let it slide and watched her intently as she held the umbrella as high as she could without losing her focus on the road.

If one of his shoulders kept hitting hers, the other was soaked. He was glad that he followed her advice and wore his parka. Although he felt cold on the outside because of his damp shoulder, his insides felt warm because of their proximity.

He wanted to slip his free hand into hers and give it a gentle squeeze as a way to show his appreciation. He was able to do so when Essie walked a bit too early for the pedestrian light to go green and was about to be hit by a motorcycle. He pulled her toward him before something bad happened, and both looked at each other in shock.

“Essie, be careful please,” he said softly while squeezing her hand.

“I’m sorry, John,” she replied in the same manner, her hand still in his.

As the pedestrian light went green, the two never let go of the other’s hand. Once they reached the other side, Johnny plucked the umbrella from Essie’s grip and held it. “Now let me, please,” he said, earning the nod of his friend.

They walked in silence toward Starbucks, which was only a few meters away. Both processed what just happened, and to an outsider’s perspective, their cheeks (and ears) were flushed.

Johnny thought that he was starting to like the rain better, minus the part that his best friend and secret crush was about to be hit by a motorcycle. Essie was convinced that sharing umbrellas can be a sweet (and cute) way for people to get together. Not that she’s expecting Johnny to court her soon, but she felt something in the way he held her hand when he pulled her toward him.

She took a glance at him, and he caught her. “Yes, baby?” He asked, flashing him a smile that made her cold heart warm.

“Thanks for, you know, saving me,” she said in a small voice before looking away. She felt her ears were burning at how flustered she was.

“Aw, no problem. You know I’ve always got your back,” his hand that held hers now moved around her waist and pulled her close to him. “And now we’re here.”

Both looked up at the logo of Starbucks above the door, and Essie got the umbrella from his other hand to close it. Johnny opened the door once that was done, and they took refuge in the warmth that their favorite coffee shop had to offer.
