26er Carbon Hardtail Fat Bike SN02
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fat bikes are awesome. If anyone says to you that they aren’t you need to remove that person from your life. Jumping on a fat bike and going for a ride will make your day better regardless of what has happened. Fat bikes just want you to get out and enjoy riding. They also make everyone around you happy and isn’t that something we all want at the end of that day?
The other thing people will inform you is that fat bikes are heavy. You’ll then want to show them our fat bikes. As we use Toray carbon fiber to construct the frame, fork, and wheels from our fat bikes are light. You’ll have no issue getting our fat bikes up hills, and thanks to the legendary fat bike grip you’ll get them up hills that other bikes will falter trying to get up. Yeah, fat bikes are great to go climbing on.
Our fat bikes are also only available as full suspension bikes. That means there is no terrain that you can’t cross on our fat bikes. You’ll sail across snow, bogs, swamps, and sand, following this you’ll be able to sail down drops and through rock gardens with ease. Nothing will be able to get in your path. You’ll literally just roll over any obstacles that get in your way.
Come and try our fat bike and before you know it all your other bikes will be sitting in the garage gathering dust as you realize how much fun 4” of rubber can be.

Half term, so I just kept my head down and left it to the breeders and their feral kids this week. Easy enough to do guilt-free when it's cold and grey...but a quick ride yesterday morning spurred me to replace my front mudguard when I got home. The trails are drying out....a bit, but there's still too much kack making it past the old 26er mudguard that's migrated from bike to bike over the last few years. The replacement, an RRP Max, is certainly bigger but it's made of softer plastic. Less prone to breakage in a crash? Possibly, but lacking the sus fork brace attachment it's designed for, it's also floppier. In addition to the supplied zipties, I've stuck the side flaps to the inside of my fork legs with small squares of cushioned draught excluder. I suspect longer term I'll be drilling holes higher up the flaps to use additional zipties.

My wheels
Tumblr media
Wheels on my bike, are hummin as they roll,
Out early in the am, just going for a stroll,
Bags are packed, bottles are full, and Lycra on,
It’s crisp in the morning, kiss the wife and I am gone,
First few revolutions are quite stiff,
Give your head a shake and get a grip,
Shifting gears to help warm up legs,
Rolling quicker now, you can feel the air moving in your chest,
Turning the crank, it’s what makes him go,
When on a bike you can be fast or you can go slow,
Hummin tires as you roll, must take a sip,
Legs are loving the circles, they don’t ever wanna quit,
Roads, trails, parkways, they are there to ride,
When going thru the forest, look carefully, deer like to hide,
Mine is a Norco Storm 26er, been thru hell,
This year will be more then 5000 kms, I can tell,
Cars whiz by paying no never mind,
Riding is a passion, sure does beat the grind,
Riding long distances, like the Tour de France,
Who would like to meet along the road, maybe good ol Lance,
Burnin rubber and jammin gears,
Be riding my bike for many more years,
All season I will be riding my Norco 26er,
If the storm breaks down, I’ll just fixer,
Bike and white is the bike, Lycra is what I wear,
Miles pedaled hard( mph), is the way to get there,
Sun rising in the east, moon setting in the west,
This riding season is here, and it’s gonna be the best,
Thru the valley’s and meadows, ride beside streams and rivers,
Ridin long distance is a discipline, not always do you giver,
Lobster gloves in winter, fingerless gloves in summer,
Most days I ride quick, 25 kms or so,but some days I just like to lumber.

Yeah, I'm still alive. I've had worse colds, to be quite honest - but I've heard enough anecdotes about fit people suffering a mild dose of Covid, going back to their usual level of exercise then suffering a big relapse/collapse. I don't want to be one of them.
So, aside from work, I've taken it easy this week. For the next few days I'm cat sitting at my sister's place, taking advantage of her garage to build up the 'new' mountain bike, i.e swapping over bits onto a 29er Scandal frame, Ridefarr bikepacking forks (AC 483mm) and Mavic wheels that I've accumulated in sales over the last couple of years.
I thought it might be instructive to compare this new 'long, low and slack' rolling chassis with the 26er setup I've been riding for the last three years, based on a 2011 XL Rockhopper frame (bought for £25) plugged into a set of P2 forks with an AC of 470mm. The results have surprised me...
I positioned the two bikes with the bottom bracket shells side by side. There are parallax issues with these pictures but you'll get the drift. In these two pics you can see the headset and forks, while not much slacker in angle, sit further forward on the Scandal than they do on the Rockhopper - but then so does the seat tube, due to its curvature as it exits the BB.
So, maybe not that long after all, just with a different centre of gravity. I'd boshed on a cheap, fashionably short 45mm stem just to hold the forks in place, but suspect I may be going significantly longer than that on the final build.
