The Batman fandom infantilizing a near 30 years old white man taking in a child, saying he was a brother more than a father as if he wasn't a full grown adult taking in a child he could have birthed, but parentifying a brown young adult taking in his brother pre-teen for less than a year, saying he was a father more than a brother (only a year is barely enough but ok), or saying he was more a father to his other brothers than Bruce, when he met them when he was 18 and 21 is making me uncomfortable, ngl.
Like, Bruce is a "kid" when he became Dick's guardian when he canonically was over 25 (he started being Batman at 25), and a brother to him when he raised him for 10 years (and Dick probably has not many memories from before Bruce now), but Dick is a "father" to Damian he only had as his charge for less than a year, half of which they were fighting each others??? Make it make sense???

Based on Tim and Jason's ages, Dick was prob mid-twenties. Like 25/26. He was probably the same age during both events since they happened near each other.

#alia talks#turning 25 this month and I was having some semi existential crises this month#but I was thinking#when I was 18 I dropped out of [prestigious uni] half way thru first sem bc I couldn’t hack it#stayed T home and did community college for 3 years before transferring to [comparatively mid tier ranked] uni#I used to feel so much shame over it#And fear over whether or not I’d get a job move out etc#But now that I’m halfway thru my 20s I’ve been looking back#and as of right now I’m the only person in my family with health insurance#One of the things my parents used to warn me about was that by age 26 you cannot be in your parents insurance in the USA#So by that point I needed to have a full time job#And I used to be scared ghat I’d never make it#And now I’m a year away from 26#And I’m employed full time w health insurance coverage#Meanwhile both my parents are currently unemployed/self-employed#And most likely cannot ever get a full time job for [reasons]#And my younger sibs don’t have health insurance due to being uni students#(I mean they do through their college maybe)#Just that currently in my family I’m the only one with health insurance through my job#Something I was afraid I wouldn’t have at this age or something that I’d lose#And after nearly 7 years of having ShameTM over it

Of all the injustices in this chapter, the false mourning and the way the town decided how they'd treated Cissy in life didn't matter, out of all of it the detail that upsets me most is that Cissy doesn't get to be burried with her baby.

The last family reunion of my mom’s family was wild, not because of the reunion itself, but because afterwards my brothers and i were like “is that how normal extended families act? Unironically where was the gaslighting and gatekeeping?” And that’s how my world view was shaken about how a big family reunion doesn’t always have to have a few “gaslight gatekeep” people who make things around them more complicated and awkward
#emma posts#it’s been what? one. two years?#still think about this occasionally and am shaken#at the age of like 25 or 26 I realized you can have dozens of family members in one building and not have to keep up with some weird#gossip and borderline bullying people#you can just. sit around and talk without certain people making you walk on eggshells when they join in#especially if you married into the family. especially as a wife#no idea why the aunt and my mom drauma was so tense#most of us were literally just there#and at least one uncle was like that too. he just didn’t form an almost clique#some aunts were chill. but at least two could be borderline mean girls but in a way that you would look weird for pointing out#my grandparents were so chill too so I have no idea what went on to create that#my grandma was the sweetest lady istg although she could sometimes be a bit of a pushover :(#I’m probably oversharing again
