Access For All. Period.
Free pads and tampons are now available throughout Manitoba as part of the Access for All Period program, led by the Manitoba government. This program is focused on ending period poverty by providing equal access to menstrual products for all.
What is period poverty?
Period poverty is the inability to access or afford menstrual products, preventing youth and adults who menstruate from participating in their everyday lives.
Why is this important?
Removing barriers to access menstrual products is crucial to the physical and mental health of all who menstruate. A lack of proper access can result in dangerous situations, leading to both short and long term physical harm, as well as mental health issues including anxiety, depression and self-isolation. For students, it can negatively impact attendance and participation, affecting long-term achievement and resulting in missed educational and employment opportunities.
How does the program work?
The Manitoba government, in partnership with Shoppers Drug Mart, is providing readily available pads and tampons free to those in need. Products are available to all Manitobans in schools and community organizations as listed below. Free menstrual products are also available at participating shelters throughout the province through the Access for All Period program.

Why Andheri Is An Emerging Luxury Residential Corridor in Mumbai
Tumblr media
Mumbai, the “City of Dreams,” pulsates with a vibrant energy that attracts countless individuals seeking success and a fulfilling life. As the city continues to evolve, so do the aspirations of its residents. Today, there’s a growing demand for not just a place to live, but a luxurious haven – an address that reflects one’s achievements and elevates their lifestyle. Traditionally, South Mumbai has been the go-to district for luxury living. However, a new wave is rising – Andheri, a dynamic microcosm within Mumbai, is rapidly transforming into a coveted address for luxury residential projects.
What Makes Andheri the New Frontier of Luxury Living?
Several factors contribute to Andheri’s emergence as a prime location for luxury residences:
Strategic Location and Seamless Connectivity:
Andheri boasts a central location, offering excellent connectivity to various parts of Mumbai. The upcoming Andheri-Dahisar Metro line further enhances accessibility. Projects like Lashkaria Indrasukh are strategically placed near key landmarks like Versova Metro Station (650 meters) and DN Nagar Metro Station (750 meters), making commuting a breeze. Additionally, residents enjoy easy access to essential services like Kokilaben Hospital (400 meters).
Booming Infrastructure and Flourishing Business Hubs:
Andheri is witnessing a significant infrastructural upgrade. With the expansion of the Mumbai Metro network and upcoming flyovers, the commute to key business districts like Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) is becoming increasingly convenient. This development attracts young professionals and entrepreneurs, further propelling the demand for luxury apartments.
A Flourishing Social Scene with Diverse Amenities:
Luxury goes beyond spacious living areas. It’s about having access to a vibrant social scene and a curated selection of amenities. Andheri offers a plethora of entertainment options, from high-end restaurants and shopping malls (Infinity Mall: 2.2 kilometers, Citi Mall: 2 kilometers) to recreational facilities like Andheri Sports Complex (1.4 kilometers), The Club Mumbai (1.3 kilometers), and the ever-popular Versova Beach (1.5 kilometers). Additionally, esteemed educational institutions like St Louis Convent High School (71 meters), Good Shephard Church (220 meters), Mithibai College (3.7 kilometers), and Bhavans College (2.3 kilometers) add to the area’s appeal for families.
Investment Potential and Lucrative Rental Income:
Luxury apartments in Andheri-Jogeshwari offer immense potential for capital appreciation. The area’s ongoing infrastructural development and flourishing business scene are expected to drive property prices upwards. Owning a luxury apartment, like those offered by Lashkaria Indrasukh (2 BHK – RERA Carpet Area: 780 sq. ft., 3 BHK – RERA Carpet Area: 1100 sq. ft.), presents not just a luxurious living space but also a lucrative investment opportunity. With its prime location, high-quality construction, and curated amenities, these apartments are highly sought-after by young professionals, generating a steady stream of rental income for investors.
A Thriving Community for Like-Minded Individuals:
Luxury apartments in Andheri foster a sense of community. Residents typically share similar aspirations and lifestyles, creating a network for collaboration and fostering lifelong friendships. Projects like Lashkaria Indrasukh’s limited number of residences contribute to this exclusivity, creating a sense of belonging and camaraderie.

NEW MEXICO
2023 Jan 24 (Tue) – We woke to snow this morning!  It rained during the night and it got cold enough to turn white.  It was mostly a dusting but still cold.  We discovered we don’t have an ice scraper.
Tumblr media
We packed up in a light snowfall and left Van Horn, TX,  at 9:15 a.m.  It was a very long drive today (220 miles).  We stopped for lunch at McDonald’s and had burgers and coffee.  Sheba is having a hard time with the new truck.  We’re not sure what is bothering her but we’ll keep fooling around with her place and see if we can’t make her happy.  We passed from Central Time into the Mountain Time Zone.
We arrived at Dream Catchers RV Park in Deming around 1 p.m.  We stayed here on the way to Comanche and now we are back here on our return trip to Arizona.  It was very cold all day with a strong wind blowing.  We had snow, then sleet, then rain during our drive.  Our gas mileage really dropped.  We were only getting 9 mpg.  And Paul is still trying work out the bugs.
After set up, we drove into town to get fuel for tomorrow’s trip.  Then we stopped at WalMart to pick up a license plate holder.  The snow and rain made our temporary paper plate warp.
We called the Ford dealer to find out where the paperwork is.  They were supposed to send it to Your Best Address in South Dakota so we can register the truck in South Dakota.  The taxes are more than half what New York taxes are.  The dealer told me it was sent to the Minnehaha County Office instead.  This is starting to look like a real screw up.  We only have 30 days on the temp plates.  I advised the agent at Your Best Address and he will go to the DMV tomorrow to see if he can find the paperwork.
I got a letter form the VA today awarding me 100% disability rating because of my lymphoma. They say it is service-connected.  That’s good.  It turns out that there is a set amount that is awarded for each degree of disability rating.  If you are getting retired pay, they will subtract that from the disability payment and send you the difference.  It’s still a welcome addition to our income.  It will also be retroactive back to August 10 when the PACT Act was passed.
We figured out an interesting thing with the truck today.  The truck has a button where you can pre-set your seat.  Paul arranged his seat and mirrors the way he likes them and set that on the #1 button.  Each time he gets out of the truck, the steering wheel lifts up and the seat moves back to allow him to get out.  When he gets back in the truck, the seat, steering wheel and mirrors should all go back to the #1 position.  They don’t.  Paul has to push the button to have everything move back to where he wants it.  The dealer suggested that we had both keys too close together and that we should separate them.  I left my key in the trailer and Paul went out to see if the setting would hold.  It did not.  Then I said maybe I had the master key and he had the copy.  So he took my key out to the truck while we kept his key in the RV.  That worked!  His setting now stays in place.

The Other Snowbird: The water is warm and tranquil, perfect for the manatees wintering in Blue Springs Park in Central Florida. During these colder months, visitors can only view manatees from afar—no one is allowed to swim or boat—and the efforts are paying off. National Geographic Explorer Erika Larsen photographed one of the some 800 manatees (shown above) that now congregate in the springs—a dramatic increase from the 36 in 1980.

The sculptures of the Terracotta Army in China's Shaanxi Province. ©AFP. Major archeological discovery made in China 🇨🇳! Hundreds of terracotta warriors, as well as chariots and horses, have been excavated, scientists say. Chinese archaeologists say that they’ve unearthed some 220 more terracotta warriors near Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s Mausoleum in Shaanxi Province in the northwestern part of the country. Some 16 terracotta horses, four chariots, weapons, and production tools have also been dug up, the Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday, citing the province’s Relics Management Bureau. The findings were made during an excavation at the largest burial pit outside the mausoleum, Pit No.1, which spans 14,260 square meters. Archeologists have made several other major breakthroughs recently, Shen Maosheng, a researcher at the Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, told Xinhua. The scientists have been able to determine the formation in which the figures were placed into the ground, he said. He added that researchers have also managed to ascertain how the terracotta sculptures were made, according to Shen. The carvings on the bodies of the warriors were done first, while the arms were attached afterwards. The Terracotta Army is a massive collection of full-sized clay-based sculptures depicting the armies of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. They were buried in the ground around his mausoleum in 210–209 BCE with the aim of protecting the ruler in the afterlife. The discovery of the figures became a sensation in 1974. Excavation at the site has been ongoing since then. The underground army is estimated to number over 8,000 soldiers.

In Manhattan, where multimillion-dollar real estate sales are downright routine, a hedge fund tycoon has managed to set a new standard for conspicuous consumption by paying a fortune for an unfinished piece of property in the sky. The billionaire, Kenneth C. Griffin, spent $238 million for a penthouse at 220 Central Park South that is still under construction, making it the most expensive residential sale in United States history. What’s more, in a New York tale that is not entirely uncommon, the 79-story building where Mr. Griffin’s penthouse will soon exist was built after the landlord evicted dozens of middle class tenants from their rent-stabilized apartments in what was a fairly modest, white-brick building with 20 floors.

Billionaire hedge-fund manager Ken Griffin just paid $238 million for a New York City penthouse, breaking the record for the most expensive home ever sold in the US, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The transaction smashed the previous record, set in in 2014 when another hedge-fund manager, Barry Rosenstein, bought a Hamptons home for $137 million, by more than $100 million.

New York has always attracted the wealthy and predatory, dating back at least to our most famous pirate, Captain Kidd. Coming here was seen as a sort of arrival, for individuals and businesses alike. Long a “headquarters town,” as early as 1901 New York was home to sixty-nine of the nation’s two hundred largest corporations. Their owners lined Fifth Avenue with their fairy-tale mansions—some of them later converted into museums or elegant stores—or filled luxury apartment houses such as the Dakota. They hired the most renowned architects to erect gigantic advertisements for their transformative, world-conquering enterprises, including many of the most memorable structures ever built in the city: Grand Central Terminal; the Chrysler, Woolworth, Empire State, and Seagram buildings, among others. Noxious as the old robber barons could be, they at least dropped vast amounts of money into the local economy in the form of property taxes and purchases in elite shops. They employed people in droves—small armies of domestics, vendors, and workers at all levels—to service their needs and businesses. They contributed to the city through their building and philanthropy—Rockefeller Center, Carnegie Hall, the Morgan Library, and the Frick Collection, to name just a few examples. The new rich infesting the city, by contrast, are barely here. They keep a low profile, often for good reason, and rarely stick around. They manufacture nothing and run nothing, for the most part, but live off fortunes either made by or purloined from other people—sometimes from entire nations. The New Yorker noted in 2016 that there is now a huge swath of Midtown Manhattan, from Fifth Avenue to Park Avenue, from 49th Street to 70th Street, where almost one apartment in three sits empty for at least ten months a year. New York today is not at home. Instead, it has joined London and Hong Kong as one of the most desirable cities in the world for “land banking,” where wealthy individuals from all over the planet scoop up prime real estate to hold as an investment, a pied-à-terre, a bolt-hole, a strongbox. For most of a decade now, like lava flowing inexorably from some deadly volcano, the residences of the superrich have moved east from the Time Warner Center to create Billionaires’ Row, the array of buildings on 57th Street and several adjoining streets and avenues that is already dominating much of the Manhattan skyline. These “supertall” skyscrapers are defined as buildings taller than 984 feet: One57, at 157 West 57th Street (1,004 feet); 432 Park Avenue (1,396 feet). Well on their way to being built: 53 West 53rd Street (1,050 feet), 111 West 57th Street (1,428 feet), and 217 West 57th Street (1,550 feet). Finished or not, many of the apartments were—at first—snapped up as soon as they went on the market. The Times used to tick off their record-setting sales in its Sunday real estate section, down to the absurdly exact dollar and cent: one recent lower-end example, $47,782,186.53! Nor are the records these sales set likely to remain for long. A triplex at the forthcoming 220 Central Park South will reportedly be sold for $200 million, and a four-story apartment at the same address is priced to move at $250 million. These would be the largest home sales ever recorded anywhere in the United States. Who spends this sort of money for an apartment? The buyers are listed as hedge fund managers, foreign and domestic; Russian oligarchs; Chinese apparel and airline magnates. And increasingly, to use a repeated Times term, a “mystery buyer,” often shielded by a limited liability company. This is not the benevolent “gentrification” that Michael Bloomberg seemed to have had in mind but something more in the tradition of the king’s hunting preserves, from which local peasants were banned even if they were starving and the king was far away. Or, to use a more urgent analogy, these areas are now the dead zones of New York, much like the growing oxygen-depleted dead zones of our oceans and lakes, polluted with pesticide runoff and deadly algae blooms.
