January’s full Moon came to be known as the Wolf Moon because wolves were more likely to be heard howling at this time. Though it was traditionally believed that wolves howled due to hunger during winter, we know today that isn’t accurate.
Howling & other wolf vocalizations are heard in the wintertime to locate pack members, reinforce social bonds, define territory & coordinate hunting. One study recorded spontaneous howls and responses happen most often between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. .
• According to the Wolf Conversation Center, gray wolves “inhabited most of the available land in the Northern Hemisphere.” Habitat destruction & persecution by humans have reduced their range by about a third worldwide & 90% in the lower 48 states.
Other celebrations:
• Hogmanay: December 31st- January 1st-
Christmas was not celebrated as a festival and virtually banned in Scotland for around 400 years. So it was, right up until the 1950s that many Scots worked over Christmas & celebrated their winter solstice holiday at New Year, when family & friends would gather for a party and to exchange presents which came to be known as hogmanays.
Customs vary throughout Scotland & usually include gift-giving & visiting the homes of friends & neighbors. Another common Hogmanay tradition is to clean the house. Some believe that beginning the New Year with an unclean house may bring bad luck. Traditionally, this would include taking out the ashes from the coal fire.
• Particular attention is given to the first-foot(is the first person to enter the home of a household on New Year's Day and is seen as a bringer of good fortune for the coming year bearing coal to ensure the house remains warm in the coming months & should traditionally be a tall, dark-haired man.)
• Compitalia/ Feast of Lades: January 3-5-
Was an annual festival in honor of the Lares Compitales, household deities of the crossroads, to whom sacrifices were offered at the places where two or more ways met. Dionysius said that Servius Tullius founded the festival, which he describes as it was celebrated in his time. Dionysius relates that the sacrifices consisted of honey-cakes (Ancient Greek: πέλανοι) presented by the inhabitants of each house; & that the people who assisted as ministering servants at the festival were not free men, but slaves because the Lares took pleasure in the service of slaves. He further adds that the Compitalia were celebrated a few days after the Saturnalia with great splendor & that the slaves on this occasion had full liberty to do as they pleased.
During the celebration of the festival, each family placed the statue of the underworld goddess Mania at the door of their house. They also hung up at their doors figures of wool representing men & women, accompanying them with humble requests that the Lares & Mania would be contented with those figures, and spare the people of the house.
• Lunar New Year: January 29th-
The Lunar new year (Commonly referred as Chinese New Year) is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture marking the end of winter & the beginning of the spring season, observances traditionally take place from New Year's Eve, the evening preceding the first day of the year to the Lantern Festival, held on the 15th day of the year. The new year starts on the new moon nearest the midpoint between the winter solstice & the spring equinox, sometime between January 21 and February 20.
• This holiday has ancient roots in China as an agricultural society. It was the occasion to celebrate the harvest & worship the gods & ask for good harvests in times to come
Each culture celebrates the Lunar New Year differently with various foods and traditions that symbolize prosperity, abundance & togetherness. In preparation for the Lunar New Year, houses are thoroughly cleaned to rid them of inauspicious spirits, which might have collected during the old year. Cleaning is also meant to open space for good will and good luck.
Some households hold rituals to offer food & paper icons to ancestors. Others post red paper and banners inscribed with calligraphy messages of good health and fortune in front of & inside, homes. Elders give out red envelopes containing money to children. Foods made from glutinous rice are commonly eaten, as these foods represent togetherness. Other foods symbolize prosperity, abundance & good luck.
The origins of the Lunar New Year festival are thousands of years old & are steeped in legends. One legend is that of Nian, a hideous beast believed to feast on human flesh on New Year's day. Because Nian feared the color red, loud noises & fire, red paper decorations were pasted to doors, lanterns were burned all night, and firecrackers were lit to frighten the beast away.

Welcome To Lunestia
The date is 7600.
Humanity finds itself alive and well on the planet of Lunestia! With its gorgeous greens, purples, pinks, and white fields it is definitely different than Earth but almost eerily the same. After the legendary forum wars of 2025, aliens have fully become a part of society on Earth as well as Lunestia. Great advancements in not only technology but human evolution have improved life in the universe more than any being could imagine!
I fell in love with Risa's Lunestia and Meroze maps as soon as I saw them! It was really hard to choose between those two to use for this space world save but Lunestia's beautiful terrain painting and blend won me over! I highly recommend both of these worlds, absolutely gorgeous and incredible work!
INTERESTING CHARACTERS
Mae, Malie, and Una Verse keep watch over the renovated remains of the First Contact ship that brought all beings to beautiful Lunestia! Although thankful for the great honor bestowed upon them from their ancestors, these young beings just want to have some fun, sometimes!
The Goth family and Bachelor family fell into a wormhole in Sunset Valley and have found themselves farther in the future than they could even imagine!
Candy is a plantsim who is trying her very best to recreate all of the lovely plants from Earth! She lives in her underground lab and you can find her there or above ground tending to all of her lovely friends…uh plants!
Skyla Martial is a genius who has filled her home with bots that she treats like family but never stopped to wonder if she wants an actual family. Either way, the bots fill that void…for now.
Finally, you will find lots of beings from Oasis Landing and Lunar Lakes here: Amelia Loveland, Kel Gwyn, Harkin Shire, Fawn Lacey, Felix Finn, The Planesons, The James family, The Mosqueda family, The Su family, the Sekemoto Family, Eleanor Alto, the Castle family, the Star family, the Orey family, and the Landgraab Clones.
Around Town
29 Community Lots 62 Residential Lots
There's lots to do in Lunestia! Along with all EA rabbitholes, you can visit:
The Millennium Falcon Bot Emporium - A recreation of the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars by soocoolsim! It includes the bot emporium register, comics register, and a food register.
The Future Fashion Salon - - I have been experimenting with combining rabbitholes, registers, and lots on one lot and am loving the results! It saves so much room in town and I love how some of these rabbitholes/registers/lots work together! This is a salon and tattoo shop that includes the Elixir Consignment register, nectary register, consignment store register, and the Spa rabbithole.
Purple Flourite Museum - Art Gallery by Satureja13 that includes another nectary register.
Monsters Inc Stadium - a fun recreational park built by Hidehi for the Disney Magic Kingdom collaboration. The school and stadium rabbitholes are also located here.
Sapphire Ice Gym - by Satureja13 A small gym with all machines and martial arts stuff
Zephyr 47 - An old starship repurposed into Lunestia's favorite spot to watch the game, get some wings, and drink some juice with the old team! (shell by geminiagre, interior redone and converted to sportsbar by me)
Natatorium Pool - pool from Lunar Lakes
Laser Waves - A poolside club with lots of secret places to find!
Cosmic Ray's Bowling Lanes by Sandraelle is the place to be in Lunestia! A huge arcade with every game and numerous bowling lanes open at all times, all beings come here for fun and prizes, to grab some groceries, catch a movie, or have a quick meal at the diner!
Lunestia Library And Bookstore - a huge library with fun for the kids, snacks, the bookstore, and the Vault of Antiquity
Full Spectrum Fire Safety - by Waterheart197 - Even in the future, fire will still get you. Luckily, the fire safety beings here at Full Spectrum can help!
Bridgeport Acres Festival Grounds
Astro Orbiter - by soocoolsim is a fun hangout with a roller coaster, games, and snacks
Lunar Hub Casino - this is Lunestia's Live Show Venue that includes all casino games, giant performer's stage, nectary, and food register. You can find HOLODEK by Livvy1049 - a bright future lounge right next door!
Science Tech Center - bot emporium I built that includes the bot competition arena and observatory rabbitholes
Cube by Snowmoon - this dive bar is for surly beings only!
The MotherShip by Snowmoon is a little more inviting for the locals in Lunestia. The Darts Competition is weekly, see you there!
It wasn't long after Lunestia was discovered that the Space Buzz Studio by Hidehi was built! You can always see some of the actors rehearsing on stages upstairs if you stop by to tour the studio rabbithole (in the basement).
Crater Lagoon is the town fishing spot stocked with all fish and not too far from there you will find Oasis Shoreline Beach!
Don't forget to visit the crash scene wreckage! It might look like a junkyard but very important research is being done here. You can see the renovated First Contact ship from here as well!
OTHER INFO
In this download, you will find the world and 3 save files:
LunestiaCommunityLots - this save has the community lots only, no residential houses or other lots
LunestiaUnpopulated - the is the final version of the save without sims
LunestiaPopulated - this is the final version of the save with all households
This save uses Into The Future, Lunar Lakes, and all sci fi store content extensively but there is zero custom content. I have all expansions, all stuff packs, and all store content but if you do not have some of the items, the game will generate a similar item for you (but you may have to edit). The only expansion not used is PETS so I am unsure how the save will perform with Pets, but there is definitely plenty of room for them!
Because this world was just roads and trees, I ran into the same problem I had with Simarellen, which was sometimes the lots do not line up perfectly with the roads. Some of the lots may look diagonal or incorrectly placed because of that but I have playtested everything and have not found any routing issues. This world save does use the Into The Future elevators profusely so there might be an issue with some of the elevators not working as intended. To fix this, simply go into build mode on the lot, go to the ground floor of the lot, use the hand tool to pick up the elevator and then drop it, this will reset the elevators to go to the correct floors. I tried not to fill the world up with lots too much, but it was hard to choose with so many excellent options out there! You can always add more, if you like!
This took me longer than I expected, my apologies for the delay! Please tag me @zergula or #lunestia if you share any photos, etc I would love to see them. You can find my other world saves here: River Falls here: Simarellen and here: Kaodina
Happy simming and green plumbobs for all <3

Visiting Copenhagen? 10 things to know about Denmark
(CNN)Copenhagen: not only the capital of the happiest country on Earth — officially — but also probably the center of the designer goods universe.
Even the Christmas decorations are tasteful.
The festive season is also when the air is especially thick with “hygge” — Denmark’s wooly, candle-lit version of coziness. No wonder Hans Christian Andersen called the city wonderful — twice.
Yes — sorry — that reference was impossible to avoid.
1. The Danes are the happiest people on the planet
It’s official.
According to the UN’s 2013 World Happiness Report, Denmark, with a score of 7.6, beats every other country on a global happiness scale from zero to 10.
The United States, by contrast, isn’t especially happy. It came in in 17th place, between Mexico and Ireland.
But don’t despair if you think Danish despair has been lost. There’s always Hamlet — and Kierkegaard (see below).
Love oysters? The Limfjorden are rated among the best in the world
2. A lot of Copenhageners cycle — fast
Ever tried commuting to work by bike in a frenetic city such as London, New York or Beijing?
Do it and you realize cyclists are still second-class citizens in many cities.
The situation is reversed in Copenhagen, where half of the people pedal to work.
Just as cyclists compete with cars in terms of numbers, so too they seem to try to beat them on speed.
In other words, pedestrians should take care crossing a cycle lane.
Or you could join the two-wheeled masses. Cycling is one of the best ways to explore the city, and you can take bikes on trains.
Public transport is efficient. It takes 15 minutes to travel from the airport to the city center by metro, and trains run 24 hours a day.
Copenhageners are also law-abiding.
Even at 3 a.m. on an icy cold night, with no traffic in sight, they’ll wait for the green light at pedestrian crossings.
3. Copenhagen is glittering with Michelin stars
It’s still hard to get a table at Noma, the “new Nordic” restaurant that’s been named the World’s Best Restaurant three times.
There are, however, options.
This small city boasts 15 Michelin stars, and several Noma chefs have gone on to set up their own outfits with equally stimulating menus.
A flourishing example of the latter is Rel (Jgersborggade 41; +45 3696 6609), an experimental, basement restaurant on a street packed with food shops and eateries.
Another (without a Michelin star) is Kdbyens Fiskebar (Flsketorvet 100; +45 3215 5656), a stripped-back industrial space that specializes in fish and seafood.
Other top Copenhagen culinary stops include Aamanns Deli & Take Away (ster Farimagsgade 10; +45 3555 3344) where smrrebrd, the classic Danish open sandwich, is turned into a delicious work of art, and the Royal Smushi Cafe (Amagertorv 6; +45 3312 1122), which serves “smushi,” a fusion of sushi and smrrebrd.
Make dining reservations early — most restaurants open for online bookings at least two months in advance.
Copenhageners tend not to dine late, meaning not a lot of places keep late hours.
4. “Hygge” is highly desirable
This Danish word (pronounced “hooga”) loosely translates as “coziness.”
It’s a warm, sociable feeling that comes to the fore in autumn and winter and that, for Danes, is one of the highest states to which humans can aspire.
Wool sweaters (preferably organic), hats with earflaps, blazing log fires, strong ales in old wood-paneled bars and candles galore, even at breakfast, all conjure “hygge.”
5. Home is where the Danish designer goods are
Copenhagen is rich with design-led stores selling trendy lights, ingenious kitchenware, cheerful home furnishings and exquisite glass and ceramics.
These five shops are worth a visit:
Hay (Nytorv 9)
Now in its 11th year, this purveyor of simple but good-looking furniture and accessories epitomizes the Danish dream to be “solid, straightforward, joyful and functional.”
Royal Copenhagen (Amagertorv 6)
Founded in 1775, this august company is best known for its classic blue and white hand-painted dinnerware.
Close by are Georg Jensen (Amagertorv 4), renowned for silver cutlery and jewelry, and Ilums Bolighus (Amagertorv 10), a department store devoted to Danish-designed home items.
Normann Copenhagen (sterbrogade 70)
This cinema-turned-interiors-emporium in the affluent sterbro neighborhood is youthful and light — anyone fancy a bright blue bowl in bendable rubber?
6. Copenhagen is extra-green
The Danish capital has electric buses, recycling-crazy citizens, clean harbors and shops selling clothes made from organic bamboo.
A full 64% of the city’s hotel rooms are certified as eco-friendly.
Three-quarters of the food served in public institutions is organic.
Next year, Copenhagen will be the 2014 European Green Capital, an award that recognizes cities with consistently high environmental standards.
This is only the beginning: By 2025, Copenhagen plans to be the world’s first carbon-neutral capital.
7. Tivoli will suck you in
Opened in 1843, Tivoli is the world’s second-oldest amusement park and a much-loved attraction in this family-friendly city.
Set inside mature gardens with a lake and playgrounds, it’s a schmaltzy but happy place with roller coaster rides, pantomime shows, treat stalls, amusement arcades and more than 40 places to eat and drink.
Tivoli is open in summer from April 10 until September 21, then again for Halloween (October 11-27) and Christmas (November 15-December 31), when it sparkles with 2 million fairy lights.
Children under 8 get in free; for those over 8, it’s DKK95 ($16) a head.
8. The Danes are clever clogs
The Danes invented lots of things we didn’t know needed inventing.
Like the pedal bin, created by Holger Nielsen in 1939 for his wife’s hairdressing salon.
You can pick one up at the family’s Vipp flagship store (Ny stergade 34) — your trash will thank you.
They also largely invented existentialist angst — the flip side of all that happiness.
Professionally gloomy philosopher Sren Kierkegaard was born here in 1813 and the city is busy celebrating with a host of bicentennial exhibitions and events.
Finally, of course, Lego. A marvelous Danish idea — until you step on one with your bare feet.
9. Denmark doesn’t have the euro
It’s a surprise to many, but Denmark isn’t on the euro, but the krone (crown).
Bank notes bear more pictures of bridges and historic finds than famous people — typical of a nation that values construction and craftsmanship over ego.
Tipping is minimal. Restaurant bills normally include a service charge and taxi drivers don’t expect a tip, although it’s customary to round up the amount.
10. Christmas and New Year’s is a great time to go
The holidays are when Copenhagen is in full festive mood — and of course it’s all done very tastefully.
The Danes prefer white lights on their Christmas trees, rather than gaudy colors, and the Christmas markets, which start in mid-November, aren’t as tacky or commercial as elsewhere.
Alongside the expected designer candle holders and licorice candies (a national obsession), you’ll find stalls selling wholesome gifts such as Inuit jewelry, high-tech kitchen utensils and sensible wooden toys.
A white Christmas isn’t guaranteed, but snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures are a winter staple.
Good boots, a warm hat, “glgg” (mulled wine) and “julebryg” (specially brewed Yuletide beer) — these are the seasonal staples. This article was originally published in October 2013.
