The Internet has changed the rules. Once upon a time, you could hire a team who could orchestrate your image. Get a nice photograph spread in People! Do something that would get you a 3-minute spot on Entertainment Tonight! Have a nice article in a woman's magazine about your cooking skills, fashion, or parenting -- and you controlled your narrative. The world would love you because everything they could access about you made you seem lovable. The dirty side was flipped over, and only the shiny clean side was viewed. But now, you can't control your image as easily. Too many voices can speak out. Rich people, poor people, even ostrich-skin boot-wearers can get on the Internet and give their opinions. This is where Harry and Meghan's great fail is. Neither of them are willing to respect the power of the common voice. They are trying to keep a pool full of corks from bobbing up, and it's impossible. You might sink one temporarily, but hundreds will still pop up, no matter how many puff pieces, lies, and fake photos you disseminate. Your past can no longer be erased, and if you were too stupid or corrupted to be a person with an honorable history, then your only recourse is to face it head-on and show remorse, grow, and improve. That's another fatal flaw that H & M possess. They're so arrogant and short-sighted that the best they'll ever do is flail helplessly in their own swamp, forever batting down corks that just pop back up.
