2022 Summary of art

Pretty pleased with this year's art! I felt like I didnt do enough at first, but looking back, I'm happy with what I drew. I love how my techniques are developing as I better understand what works for me and my style. I'm slowly but surely lowering the amount of over-thinking and perfectionism I put into my drawings without loosing quality, and the process feels smoother and more satisfying!! Now onto 2023 and hopefully even more progress :D

for the Roswell New Mexico Big Bang 2022

Summary: Alex & Michael’s honeymoon is interrupted when Anatsa follows Liz out into the desert, discovering the portal and putting the aliens in harm's way when the location becomes public knowledge. The gang must work together to avoid dangerous government intervention, and ensure that Max & Dallas can safely return home from Oasis.

Excerpt from Chapter One: 

Isobel laughs on the other end. “So what are we going to do? How do I deal with this?”

Before he can answer, he hears the glass door slide open behind him, and turns to look, watching as Michael steps outside wearing only his boxers. For a moment, Alex focuses on the ring on his left hand, the afternoon sunlight reflecting off it as he crosses over to him. His hair is a mess, sticking up in all directions and Alex has a moment to wonder what Michael would look like with it all pulled back, filing the idea away for later. 

“Isobel texted,” he says as Michael falls into the empty chair next to him.

“Put her on speaker.”

Pulling the phone away from his ear, Alex presses the screen for speakerphone, and holds it out between the two of them.

“What’s up, Isobel?”

“There’s my dear brother, finally,” she exclaims, and Alex swears he can hear the eyeroll in the tone of her voice. “Did you make your husband call me so you didn’t have to?”

Michael rolls his eyes. “I was sleeping.”

“Anatsa knows about the portal and the console, Michael. And now she’s here in my studio and she’s asking questions about what she saw, and I’m freaking out about how to handle it.”

“She’s at your place?”

“Yes, Michael, she’s here.”

He watches as Michael leans his head back, and realizes this isn’t going to be something they can solve from three states away. 

“I haven’t even seen the ocean yet, Isobel. You couldn’t wait until then to have your crisis interrupt us?”

And that’s one of the reasons Alex had been so excited for them to travel together to California. He knew Michael had never left the state, except for a trip to Texas a couple years ago, and there was something that made their entire honeymoon feel even more special that he’d get to be there to see Michael experience it.

Summary:

Hamartia:    noun        a fatal flaw leading to the downfall of a tragic hero or heroine.

Tragedy keeps striking Peter and his loved ones even when he tries his best to keep everyone safe. His best friends, girlfriend, his aunt, everyone he cares about seems to always be getting hurt because of him, because of Spider-Man. After he’s injured, it only gets worse and maybe it’s time for him to hang up the hero mask. It’s like they say, you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

STONES AT THE STARS || A CASTIEL/DEAN WINCHESTER REGENCY FIC Posting Sunday, 2nd of October 2022

SUMMARY: 

A lost bet, settled. During a visit to his cousin Gabriel’s English country estate in the spring of 1812, the reserved and society-shunning gentleman Castiel Novak is forced to model for the painters at Gabriel’s social gathering — in full Grecian attire, no less.

A hidden talent, revealed. Dean Winchester, Gabriel Novak’s newly hired head chef, is coerced into attending his employer’s art class where his skill with paint and brush becomes known.

Model and painter catch each other’s eye, and the two strike up a deal: Dean sates Castiel’s culinary appetites, and Castiel becomes his artistic muse. As an attachment forms between them, their future together is tested by their differences in station and the societal pressures that seek to divide them.

Dean gets to work outlining Castiel’s shape, the way the toga hangs loosely from the shoulder, down his waist, and off his thighs. He draws a different backdrop, with a vase in the background, and he centers his subject in front of a large window with the curtains roped off to the side. He thinks about having the sun shine through, silhouetting Castiel.

He can occasionally feel eyes on him but whenever he looks up, Castiel’s are still stubbornly aimed off to the side, his jaw clenched. It’s obvious how uncomfortable the man is but it seems he’s determined to pose there until they're finished.

The paint has barely started coming to life on the canvas before Gabriel’s voice cuts through Dean’s concentration. He looks up to see that the room is already half empty and a drunk Gabriel is inquiring at the top of his lungs if anyone has any tomatoes to throw. Acting quickly while his cousin is distracted, Castiel descends from the platform, swiftly passes Gabriel and exits the room, leaving Dean feeling inexplicably distraught.
