London is a city that has always been deeply uneven, with plenty of cultural treasures to hide the poverty in the Tower Blocks and the underpasses. London is effectively the main of the UK economy, and everything is geared towards it. Hence it retains a degree of economic dynamism that allows a degree of optimism, after all there's always a new restaurant, new exhibition, new flagship store, new play. Sure most workers are dirt poor, living on mashed avocado, and hoping the landlord gets visited by 3 Ghosts at Christmas, but there's the dream of making it in the big city.
Outside the London bubble, large parts of the country are either in despair, or have totally given up. Roads, bridges, hospitals, and schools are crumbling. Police have almost disappeared outside traffic stops. Courts are backlogged, prisons overfilled & well past their designed lifespan. Companies face significant trade barriers with the EU. The water industry is essentially operating on leveraged debt and mostly owned by oversea's pension funds, whilst the infrastructure collapses and raw sewage is being pumped into the rivers/seas. Everyone is underpaid compared to the cost of living, but also compared to many comparable roles in other countries.
In the shires, the more well paid commuter class can still have a nice life, but they are feeling a sharp pinch. Holidays cut. Cars held on to much, much longer than before. Meals out being reduced. Optional extras like music or sports for the kids cancelled. Impulse purchases stopped. All of which sounds like "oh poor Emma can't get her daughter Lucinda piano lessons boo hoo" but think about the economic impact. That is money that would have gone to a piano teacher (usually self employed), to the coffee shop whilst Emma waits, to a music shop for music, perhaps a CD or concert tickets to something Lucinda played at a lesson. Then when Lucinda grows up instead of having a career in arts or entertainment, even at her local bar or church, she doesn't know how to play piano. So society as a whole has lost a musician, and Lucinda as a person flourishes slightly less. The UK arts sector is one of our biggest economic powerhouses, yet it is routinely ignored and hammered by the govt. Art & music are regarded as luxury items, despite contributing £1.6 billion to the annual economy (2021 at 5.6%). That's huge, bigger than the fishing industry which contributes £1.4 billion (2021 at 4%). Yet with rents sky rocketing, and school budgets in utter crisis, arts/music get dropped and creative talent has to switch to more routine jobs to survive. UK Musicians are dropped from EU events following the botched visa system, and international work is increasingly harder for them to get.
Outside the diminishing middle class, the real difficulty and poverty of the UK hits home. People are not sure whether the next rent payment or electricity will quite literally bankrupt them and leave them homeless. Wages are mostly static, with few rises outside a number of key sectors. Some areas have seen wage growth, but that has been concentrated in a small number of jobs (especially finance/management). The population is aging, and the care system is left almost entirely to private companies in a very disjointed, expensive manner. For most people the only credible hope of a financially better life is to inherit or to win the lottery or to commit crime. This is strikingly similar to the pattern seen in many developing world economies.
For example, I have worked in the public sector for 20 years. In that time I have trained, gained professional qualifications, led larger teams, upskilled on IT/project management and become more productive. Since my pay has been capped at a 0.5% rise, it is a real terms wage cut. So I've become more productive yet I'm paid less. Why should I 1) carry on trying to be more productive, & 2) stay in the job? Productivity increases from workers have to be linked to a personal reward, as well as a benefit to an employer or there's no point for the employee. Hence "quiet quitting".
So the UK is in the dire position of poor infrastructure, rampant poverty, and a population that no longer believes hard work or being productive will improve their own lives, only maintain their survival. This is not a recipe for a flourishing economy or nation. The worst thing is that the UK has started to lose hope that things can get better without a magical solution. Without at least some hope, we are doomed.

In the second in a series of personal perspectives, the John Snow Project talks to [a successful, active early-thirties professional] based in California, who developed Long COVID after his third SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Perspective: I Did Everything Right and Things Still Went Wrong - John Snow Project
NOTE: “did everything right” in this headline is not in terms of what COVID-informed people know and do, but rather the average person who follows CDC & govt. guidelines: the “vax and relax” approach.
Excerpts:
Salvatore was Covid cautious and followed public health advice from the outset, including with regard to the vaccines.
“I completed my first vaccine series in May 2021 with two doses of Pfizer. Believing I was protected, I lived normally and was infected in September 2021. I had a known exposure and lost my sense of smell and taste. I was sick for about a day and went to bed early that night, but I didn’t even take time off work. I went back to my remote duties the next day and felt fine after a few days. I had my third Pfizer vaccine in March 2022, and was infected for a second time in September 2022 and for a third time in January 2023.”
Salvatore wasn’t initially concerned about his subsequent infections.
“I tested positive on a Cue at-home test for the second and third infections. Both infections were even milder than the first, maybe because I took Paxlovid. Within a week of the second infection, I developed heart palpitations, which were not initially linked to Long COVID. After the third infection, I began to develop many more Long COVID symptoms, and was diagnosed with the condition.”
Looking back, Salvatore had experienced persistent symptoms since his first infection, and developed new ones with each subsequent infection.
“I was aware of Long COVID since I had persistent loss of taste and smell going back to my first infection, but I never really considered it to be Long COVID, as it did not have a major effect on my life. The third infection is really what tipped me into Long COVID. Since then, I've had intermittent chest pain, heart palpitations, various neurological issues (face numbness, buzzing in the feet), joint pain, anxiety, issues with my vision, fatigue, complete alcohol and caffeine intolerance. I alternate between good weeks and bad weeks, with the bad weeks slowly becoming less severe. Some symptoms have totally resolved, while new ones occasionally emerge (the neurological symptoms did not arise until 3-4 months after my third infection). Although I have been able to keep my job and parent my daughter, this year has been one of the worst of my life. Where previously I was having fun on the weekends, for the last 8 months, I have basically spent my weekends laying on the couch and trying to recover. This year, I had two vacations planned, but cancelled them both because of how bad I've felt. My wife and I have delayed having another child because of my health. Even if I do recover fully, I have read so many stories of people relapsing back into Long COVID, that I am afraid I will never be fully healthy. For that reason, we may not have any more children because of Long COVID.”
Salvatore emailed Dr Bob Wachter, after the noted physician said booster vaccinations or infections will protect people from Long COVID. Dr Wachter posted on Twitter that boosters or infections “will protect you from severe infection & Long Covid – I give them 1 year of credit in this regard.”
Salvatore asked Dr Wachter to delete his erroneous tweet, saying, “Just reading it has caused me immense anguish knowing that someone might believe you and wind up in a similar situation [to me]. I hope you can appreciate how someone could reasonably hold you responsible for their Long COVID in the future.”
We asked Salvatore how the medical profession has responded to his Long COVID.
“Most doctors have believed me, but none have offered any substantive treatments. For example, my cardiologist at UCSF ended our last appointment by encouraging me to take CBD oil, telling me he hoped I would get better. The CBD oil seems to help a little bit, but I haven't gotten better despite his hopes. An ER doctor I saw after my face went numb was kind and caring, but described me and people like me as a "science experiment" that no one really knows how to help. Primary Care Providers have been hit or miss. Once I brought in a document with my list of symptoms to a new Primary Care Provider. He ignored it, then suggested the only explanation was that I was suffering from HIV. I have no risk factors for HIV. Once when I was feeling really bad, I visited urgent care. When I told the doctor that I had caught Covid three times, he implied that it was my fault, and told me not to catch Covid again, as if I hadn’t tried, or could somehow wave a magic wand to prevent it in the future.”
[ Comment: The PCP’s explanation is unsurprising. It’s been said repeatedly that Long COVID is similar to HIV and AIDS — the latter can also start as a “mild” or asymptomatic HIV infection and becomes much worse later on. LC affects the body / immune system and presents in some similar ways.
“If they are not treated, almost all people infected with HIV will develop AIDS (Stage 3). Some people develop AIDS within a few years of infection. Others remain completely healthy after 10 or even 20 years (called long-term nonprogressors).“ - Penn Medicine ]
CONTD.
Salvatore isn’t alone in his experiences of Long COVID but wishes more people would pay attention to the risks.
“My friends and family have been broadly supportive. It might be because I have several family members and friends who also have Long COVID, or who had it in the past and recovered. I don't think my experience has actually influenced anyone else's behavior, except my wife, who masks diligently because of me. When I talk about Long COVID, people who were already behaving in a COVID-cautious manner see it as validating, while those who weren't react with a sort of hopeless indifference. Long COVID isn’t rare. It affects many people who catch Covid even if they caught Covid before. Even if they are young and healthy. Even if they are vaccinated or not vaccinated.”
Salvatore has a message for people who don’t think about the risks of Long COVID.
“You probably won't develop Long COVID after your Covid infection, but there's a good chance that you might. The only way to avoid Long COVID is to avoid catching Covid. The vaccines and Paxlovid seem to help but aren't a panacea. If you get Long COVID, it will probably be somewhat mild, but it also could be so severe that it will derail your life entirely. Doctors will not be able to help you -- there are no cures or even approved treatments.”
Salvatore is concerned about the failure of governments to respond to the danger of Long COVID.
“Government officials that downplay or ignore the risk of Long COVID are directly responsible for the suffering of millions of people. Even if there's nothing to be done about it, at least telling people the truth would give them a chance to make a decision about the amount of risk they're willing to take. Be honest with the public about Long COVID: stop downplaying it.”
He is also concerned about the systemic risk Long COVID poses to social and economic wellbeing.
“Long COVID is the biggest, most mispriced risk facing the United States. Based on the latest studies, it's entirely possible that as many as one-third of Americans could be struggling with Long COVID in just a few years. Many of these people may be too sick to work, which poses a huge risk for the economy, and may already be manifesting in the form of the persistent labor shortage. As the number of people with Long COVID grows, health care and disability systems will come under even more strain. Long COVID should be treated as seriously as the initial COVID outbreak.”

The Kosovo government announced on Wednesday that the new minimum wage will be 2 euros per hour, which amounts to 350 euros gross a month for a full-time job.
“This will be enforced from October 1, giving businesses and organisations the opportunity to make the necessary adjustments,” Hekuran Murati, Minister of Finance, announced at the government’s Wednesday meeting. He explained that around 150,000 employees, mainly in the private sector, will benefit from the decision.
The minimum wage in Kosovo currently is 130 euros a month for those under 35 and 170 for those up to 65.
In 2022, the government aimed to increase the minimum wage to 250 euros net and 265 euros gross.
But Prime Minister Albin Kurti claimed that, “since that proposal, the law first was blocked for more than one year by the opposition and then it was sent to the Constitutional Court, where it was delayed for 11 months. Considering this time distance, the level of 264 euros today looks outdated and not enough. Therefore, today we will approve another level (of the minimum wage) which reflects the developments of these two years and the reality of society”.
The Constitutional Court has meanwhile ruled that the amended law did not violate the constitution, paving the way for the increase of the minimum wage.
The amended Law on the Minimum Wage had received much criticism, and was notably opposed by the Kosovo Liberation Army, KLA, Veterans Organisation because it did not include veterans whose pensions, based on the law on KLA War Veterans, cannot be lower than the minimum wage.
The new law regulates that, “until the final categorization of the list of KLA war veterans, the government … on the proposal of the responsible Ministry for Finance, shall decide the amount of pensions determined by this law, depending on budgetary possibilities, the cost of living and eventual inflation”.
Tax rates have also been changed. There will now be no tax imposed on monthly salaries up to 250 euros. The previous law taxed monthly income from 80 euros. For salaries ranging from 251 euros to 450 euros, the tax will be 8 per cent. For salaries over 450 euros it will be 10 percent.
The decision comes five days after the much disputed amended Law on Minimum Wage was enforced, and days before the deadline expires on August 30 for parties to notify the Central Election Commission, CEC, about their participation in the next elections.
President Vjosa Osmani has set February 9, 2025 as the date of the next parliamentary election. Kurti’s Vetevendosje Movement won the February 14, 2020, elections by a landslide. The government has become the only one since the 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia to remain in office for the entirety of its four-year mandate.
On Wednesday, the CEC approved a preliminary voting list of 2,047,148 voters, which is 161,700 more voters than in the October 17, 2021 local elections. Members of the Kosovo diaspora regularly participate in elections.

Please:
You won't be pleased by everything you ll read here, the reason is simple, " I am not a politician" that is why:
If you can't accept facts stop reading.
If you can't respond to logic or be convinced by it stop reading.
If you can't accept putting reasons behind a Strategy's failure, Idealogy, Governing System, Institution or Doctrine under logic analysis stop reading.
If you can't understand the difference between " One knows how to use Logic" and " One learnt how to adopt Logic as nature or one is logical by nature" stop reading.
"""
Under analysis of sixty years of
( Testimonies.
Records of political and economic's failure.
Records of the results of fights against poverty, crimes and social disasters)
documented by nations claimed to be nations of Successful Institutions, Academics, Efficients Officials, Credentials and "competencies" :
In case of the failure reported in Tunisia, It's logical to find flaws in govt's Institutions, its (Academics) or its Products ( Competencies). Plus the possibility of finding that a nations as Tunisia ,for example, has it's own concept of Competency, Intelligence and Potential References and Evaluation System.
Unfortunately Here Intelligence, Potential or Competence means high grades, high score, graduations, experience, credentials and probably a recommendation.
These references decide qualification, assessment, priority and advantage during selection of Studies, University, Major, Employment, Title and Salary.
I believe it became a systematic and a grave mistake, very bias also inefficient and inaccurate as proven by sixty years of records. I also believe it became very selective and as a result it deprived the nation out of certain criterias and characters capable of making a difference.
Based on what I have read in history books without Ben Algebr " if is a real personality " or Alguarezmi there won't be Algebra and same applies on Euclides, Ben Sina، Plato, Copernicus, Galileo ....exct.
All of these Doctrines aren't of "competencies" based on Tunisia's definition of Intelligence, Competency and Potential.
In fact there weren't institutions to evaluate their creds and without them education wldn't have been as known today.
Ben Algebr if in a fact a real person as I read or Alguarizmi and the others are a minority, unluckily they were exterminated in many nations in particular in Arabic nations including Tunisia as result of ignorance, ego and pride.
It's obvious that this minority's product isn't a product of Intelligence, Government Institutions or a culture.
I believe their product is of the "plus" contributed by individual effort out of a "search for knowledge" instinct and a life long devotion, commitment, deducation, consistency and persistency.
Such instinct rises to the level of a Sharea, a way of life.It constituted a way of life not a job because clearly Copernicus , as most of that minority , wasn't paid for any accomplishment nor during research at least based on the history I read.
Generally, their accomplishments reflect a high level of consciousness and civility, also a commitment to a quest for knowledge motivated by the love of knowledge similar to the value of "live to learn".
The most interesting is : such commitment didn't end by an education level, a degree, an accomplishment, a work schedule, an experience, an age or even a compensation as shown in Archimedes's story.
It's the reason why I believe:
First, drop outs and average students can be trained to do the most complicated degree as MD, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and " even more complicated".
Second, if average grades's students and below possess certain criterias I believe they can succeed where many of today's competencies have failed.
Third, this minority's Qualification and Evaluation System cldnt have depended on "Education Level, Grades, Degree, Experience or even the question of what can you do?".
I believe it must have depended on the " why" and the " what can you add to knowledge?".
I personally believe if you can't contribute, the "plus", into knowledge you want be able to help People nor Country neither Humanity.
I don't believe that one can find many of this minority's type in a nation like Tunisia but there is a possibility of finding a case and I think one case is more than enough.
The truth is without that "plus", that contribution, there wnt be a difference between a human and a robot except the fact that a robot is incapable of taking a bribe, making a mistake, violating the Law or Rights and can't be corrupted officially and conscience wize.
Part I

July 15 Part 2
Tunisia's Evaluation System of Potential, Intelligence and Efficiency is similar to any set of rules if practiced long enough it ll become systemized.
As any system, it ll become very inconsiderate and soon or later it ll reject facts, logic and human consciousness.
It will be stripped out of that Human's Care, Responsibility, Duty and Reasoning then it ll become very Bias System. It ll become very selective and restricted to only certain profiles, it ll lose its purpose and eventually it will fail if not lead to disasters.
The issue is similar to the result of the phenomenon of Random Recruitment and Enlistment of School and University's drop outs into Law Enforcement Agencies and govt's Institutions without (Psych, Personality, Responsibility, Conscience, Logic, Consciousness) Evaluation.
That result shld be very embarrassing and insulting to any civilized citizen as shown in United Nation Tunisia's Human Rights Report and Tunisia history of dissidents disappearing, torture, corruption, conspiracy, negligence, rape, bribe, justice system corruption and violation of liberties.
Clearly those are only the tentacles of tyranny and failure,so where are the brain and nervous system?..
Unfortunately again, I am not surprised to know that Tunisia's Intelligence Evaluation System and Tunisia's concept of Competency, during the last decades, allowed a particular group made only out of "elites/ particular profile" of their standard to take control over most of Tunisia's top offices, to run most of Institutions during Bourguiba and Ben Ali's eras and to push most of its laws. In fact, such group is still running Tunisia eleven years after the revolution, to date, at least based on what top officials claimed.
Unfortunately for the third time, I emphasize on the fact: such group ran most of Ministries of Interior, Justice, Economy, Human Rights and Health for decades.
Unfortunately for the fourth time, I am not surprised to hear about :
The failure or delay of Tunisia's Defense, Development and Technology Ministries in producing an oxygen machine, a generator or any equipment and offering them under an affordable cost.
The failure of Health Ministry and Pharmaceutical/Scientific/Medical research centers in discovering a cure for a virus or a vaccine.
For the record a nation like Tunisia is not failing against a particular illness only which proves that the failure isn't of financial nor scientific neither time shortage related. It's clear that a Ministry's budget is much higher than Louis Pastor which also means that it's not related to grades, intelligence, graduation rates, potential, Competency, illiteracy, education or even liberties.
Unfortunately for the fifth time, I am not surprised to see five thousands jobless doctors graduated out of Tunisia's Institutions protesting and demanding employment and benefits as any jobless illiterate, without mentioning the real number of all jobless graduates.
For the same reason I won't be surprised if I can't find a " plus" or even a new idea or model of an oxygen machine or a new generation of generators among five thousands memoirs or more.
The truth is : if an illiterate or an ignorant stands next to someone who spent twenty years in education in the front of the same institution demanding employment then know for sure that there is a grave mistake within the government, institutions, national system and of course within the academics behind them.
The question here is: where is the plus that shld have been contributed by education which shld differentiated a doctor from an illiterate?.
Where is the result of government's strategies, spending and investment in education?...
Do credentials stop at memorizing school program and graduation?...
Is education ruminating information as in" shewing cud"?.
Is such phenomenon different from others as in where radical institutions force their religious and political leaders's books/codes and enforce its practice regardless of how ignorant/ evil/bloody it can be and without any chance to logical doubt, correct flaws, discuss, innovate or contribute.
What is the difference between a well qualified academic who sentenced someone to prison or exile for criticizing national flag and an extremist who beheaded someone for disrespecting a black banner?.
Part II
Najeh Benlahmadi Naoui.
.
.
.
July 15 Part 3
It's obvious that the right question here shld be: Who ran the offices of Foreign Affairs, Education, Religious Affairs and Finance Ministries?.
Plus shld I be surprised by Tunisia's enslavement by foreign policies?, by Islamic illiteracy rates in a Muslim nation? or by civil/religious rights restrictions, obstruction of justice and destruction of evidence concerning such matters during Bourguiba and Ben Ali's eras and probably today.
For the record the problem isn't in Ben Ali's cruelty and tyranny themselves, the catastrophy is in how ninety five percent of those on top of Ben Ali's offices kept silence and held testimonies? and why the majority of them haven't saw the needs and responsibilities to expose such crimes early?.
In fact I will not be surprised by their silence today as if they have their own definition of castration, exile, sexual abuse, torture, stalking, conspiracy, eavesdropping and deprivation of freedom of speech.
Unfortunately for the sixth time, I am not surprised by seeing illiterates and five thousands doctors demanding employment without knowing that :
Employment is political party deaf promise to reach power.
It is not a govt's responsibility, and a party actually pushed it into laws only to please out of ignorance.
If the govt has a duty it shld be National Indiscriminate Economic Development.
If a party/govt increased employment number it mostly will be waste of resources, out for popularity, budget draining and gainless ((((((( throwing crumbs to silence dogs ))))))).
Unfortunately for the seventh time, I am not surprised by the fact that such Institutions and Academics produced and approved supposedly-well-qualified :
Officials found later guilty of abuse, crimes against humanity, "stripping" a minor naked in public, smuggling, trafficking, stalking, torturing, conspiring against Innocents, taking bribe, extorting, treason, castrating, persecuting, killing, punishing and jailing without any due process.
Officials violated and assaulted Innocents or one another physically and verbally.
Officials without any respect for Human Rights and Freedoms, who ll deny facts and hide evidence like mafias and gangs.
Officials won't care about a report of violation of national laws, negligence or treason as much as do care about how clean and sharp the paper on which the report was filed on.
Unfortunately this is a taste of the product of the majority of the elite of Tunisia's competencies and the results of Tunisia's Potential, Intelligence, Efficiency and Competency Evaluation System.
Here I do not intend to insult or disrespect or even blame anyone only because blaming won't change reality and I mean every word I wrote but I must mention that Evaluation of Potential/Competency and Priority References System practiced for six decades failed, catastrophically, in rescuing Tunisia politically, economically and socially and its result is reflected by Tunisia's political, health care and economic reality plus by Tunisia's Human Rights history and its Justice System's corruption.
Such Evaluation System had failed, the reason why and based on logic such System must be changed.
Unfortunately for the eighth time, I am not surprised by finding out that the Tunisia's society is sterile ,productivity speaking, stuck between ignorance, poverty, failure, insufficiency and self praised ignorants only because of the pride and ego of their leaders, and unfortunately vice versa.
Honestly and out of wisdom one shld not blame somebody( with an idea) for failure nor shld one blame somebody ( who admitted not having a plan) for failure but if one must blame somebody only those who reject facts and logics or refused to respond to logics and reason shld be blamed.
Unfortunately for the nineth time, I won't be surprised if this document is misunderstood, if Tunisia's potential profiled it as insulting negative provocative criticism or saw it as threat to it's ignorance, pride's policies and poverty's institutions or disrespectful to the delusional-conscienceless- justice obstructing- evidence denying- authority.
To the most important and what matters most and unfortunately for the tenth time ,
" DO NOT BE SURPRISED "
if you discover that this document is supported by evidence and testimony of a victim who was jailed, abused, tortured, starved, threatened, disfigured, robbed, targeted, insulted, isolated from public, and exiled after falling into a conspiracy, in Two thousands and twenty one.
Sadly , the Co-conspirators are sworn officials considered highly qualified and recommended academically and officially as claimed by the Tunisia's current also well qualified government of Competencies and Potentials.
Unfortunately no criminal was charged despite the fact that the victim did prove the conspiracy to the govt through hard non negotiable evidence....
For that reason and safety reasons the victim's identity and details are held.

How was your exam bhay
hi. so uhm, Im gonna rant. Well first of all to answer your question, the exam got cancelled because server sucked ass but I still did what i could incase it doesn't. It was super easy- and if the nta decides not to retake, i'm still getting in college.
furthermore- I really, really hate my, the people who live w me. I don't like calling them "family" or "p*rents" anymore. I only like my brother but that fucker is doing mba in bihar. Now, tell me, what were your dreams when you were 15? Small girl, thinking what job she would get. what college she should go. maybe a celebrity crush, right?
that was the first time i thought about k*lling my father. and no he didn't do anything bad to me, but all of it was mental abuse. My mom, in mid 2021, was extremely sick. It was the peak of covid and sooner or later she caught it too. Of course bhaiya and papa did all they could- and thankfully we did get hospital and she was admitted. 2 days later my brother caught covid. they are better now, mom and i are going out tomorrow to buy her some hair colour if anyone's wondering.
but imagine so much tension on a teen 17 yo. well my father always thinks that we did nothing and only he suffered through it. He wants all of us have to same passwords so he can access any of our- mail or any account on his wish. He yelled at me in a fucking moving metro in delhi on 7 pm because i was texting a guy from school. He has confiscated my phone thrice now for no fucking reason. like. in his eyes texting a friend Is a reason, apparently. Hell, he told me to "sit in sunlight in school" because my doctor said i am extremely sick and need vitamin d. you know why? because the fucking house he bought has no ventilation. and dude, lack of sunlight cause some real shit to brain. my mom got migraine in 2016 because of it.
i just want to talk my girlfriend tani and i had to make a whole plan w her that whom she can call so that we can pretend talking about college and i get to talk to her. last time he took my phone and when i got it back, i was texting a friend of mine. He said "why do u have to talk to anyone". My first dream was to move out of this fucking house. and no, my mom doesn't defend me. Instead her only god and world is her dear husband who has never done anything wrong. and let me tell you- they both will rot alone when old because they haven't done any less shit to my bhaiya. i wish they will rot alone. im crying so much i hate them alot. This one time i got hurt and i was crying because it just hurt so fkn much- my thumb got trapped somewhere and it was bleeding and he had the audacity to say "you just pretend so that you dont have to ever work" and when i said that to my mom she denied accepting it.
everytime he goes out i wish he gets in an accident. or i do. like, fr. Anyways i think let's see when will the govt release new dates or smth- also i still have second slot to attend for business studied- so yeah i think it's cool if i get to attend and its still cool if i dont :)

(cw: images depicting funerals/ mass graves)
I want to just emphasize this before woke tumblr decides that Indians living through one of the worst experiences of our lives are being oppressed because of these images. If you’re reading that western media is in some kind of “conspiracy” to undermine the Hindu nationalist BJP govt, the use of the word “Hinduphobia”-  that’s just Hindu right wing propaganda. If you’re reading commentary from well meaning liberals and leftists who are talking about the display of dead brown bodies splashed across western media as racist, please understand that’s NOT what is going on here.
We’re in the struggle of our lives fighting against a government that has refused, at every point, to speak the truth.
We’re not being oppressed by images of the truth, we’re being oppressed by an incompetent, callous government that has unprecedented power over media, judiciary, not to mention the police, and is refusing to be held accountable.  Deaths and infections are being undercounted, often deliberately, and sometimes just because we don’t have the infrastructure in place to capture all that information. Reporters are going to cremation grounds to cross check figures published by government authorities. They’re talking to people who supply wood for cremations to understand the scale of our loss. They’re talking to families experiencing trauma and grief.  People are out on twitter begging for help as their loved ones oxygen levels drop, even as chief ministers say there is no oxygen shortage. We had one guy who said arguing about the death count was useless because dead people won’t come back to life.   Our central govt and several state governments are harassing and intimidating people who are trying to report the facts, or even just trying to help source critical supplies of oxygen or ventilators, whether that’s on twitter or on the ground.
And while all of this is going on, right wing propaganda spread on social media is along the lines of “keep calm and carry on” and “don’t spread negativity” and quite literally, “don’t read too much news” and “all of this is fake news”, and now, “Hinduphobia”.  I want to emphasize this again and again: they want you to look away so they can get away with it.
Finally: the images and reports coming out from India are not just from “foreign” media, but also from independent media houses and journalists on the ground in India who are doing their goddamn jobs in the face of personal and collective tragedy. They deserve your respect and support.

I did not think this level of happiness was attainable for me but something really changed after I had Ellie. I feel so content with life where I'm at. I don't feel this intense need to chase the next big thing because I'm not good enough, because I am. I deserve a break and peace and I can afford to give that to myself now. Also, I made $135,000 last year by myself which maybe isn't a lot for some people but it is for me and now that Zed is done with his two degrees in grad school and he's working in his cush govt job we can finally take a break and live life after the timultuous 2018/2019/2020/2021 we had 😩
Quick life updates
-ellie was a micropreemie because my dad died suddenly of a morphine overdose that his hospice doctor gave him on purpose
-she spent four months in the nicu but is healthy now
-I left my day job to do Events full time but then I got an offer from the state for fully remote work I couldn't pass up so I'm doing it all all over again
-I'm religious now because I don't think you can go through what I went through and not think God exists.
-we refinanced at the perfect time cuz now we have all this money as a cushion for this crazy inflation
-everything in life is good for the first time in a long time.

A year ago today, I had a panic attack. I had never had one before, and I didn't recognize what it was at first. The entire week leading up to new year's eve (and I guess the months leading up to the end of the year really), my mental health spiraled. I had to make the tough choice of leaving my job in 2020 because I just didn't feel safe where I was. I was working and living away from my family at a place that didn't enforce its own or the state's covid policies. I kept feeling stressed, wondering what would happen if I got sick or if my family members far away got sick but I wouldn't be able to help them. But not having a job meant I wouldn't have healthcare in a country that wouldn't provide it since I was leaving my job voluntarily. And so many conservative-leaning family members of mine truly didn't know that or understand. They really thought I could just sign up and get free healthcare since I was unemployed. But that's not how even the expanded unemployment insurance worked at the time-you had to be let go or fired, and you did not qualify if you left voluntarily. And since I moved back to Mississippi, which has some of the stricted and narrowest eligibility requirements for things like food stamps and medicaid, even living off just my husband's grad student salary was just high enough to disqualify us for any govt assistance.
So with 2021 looming, having no job, no healthcare, having to deal with anti-mask conservative family, and being in Mississippi, who had at that time just lifted it's state-wide mask mandate, I truly couldn't see what there was to celebrate. Sure, vaccines were promising, but the pandemic was still raging and getting worse and it suddenly being 2021 wouldn't change that.
I couldn't have imagined a year later that I'd not only be vaxxed but triple vaxxed. I couldn't see myself employed and us having moved to live in a new state. Things did get better in 2021 for me personally, and I truly can say I'm in a better place mentally.
The scar of that 2020 new year's eve still hurts though. I could feel myself slipping this whole past week into that same existential dread I felt a year ago. Just the thought that we're about to be in a new year again but still in a pandemic with, again, no new public health policies to help mitigate the spread other than "well do what you personally can, cause we ain't gonna make any big and hard decisions. It's *recommended* to wear a mask and getting vaccinated but we can't tell you what to do."
Talking with friends and having a day job (well sort of afternoon job actually heh heh) has helped me stay sane, so I signed up to work new year's eve so I can stay distracted while the day can fly by. I hate that what the pandemic has stolen from me is the ability to optimistic and hopeful for the future. All I've ever wanted in my life is to live on my own terms, where I feel safe and have the space and grace to be myself and have a "normal" life after the traumatic childhood I had. Maybe one day, I can dare to dream again, but for now, I'm just tired. I'm tired of having to endure one hardship after another and to live another year in an "uncontrollable" pandemic. That's why I just want today to be a normal work day, where I get up and go through my now familiar routine of getting ready for work.
The only difference today is I'm making semi-traditional comfort food for nye: my family's recipe for beef veggie soup made with beef, canned veggies, kale, and most importantly black eyed peas to satisfy all the southern nye food requirements of (not) corned beef, (not) cabbage, and black eyed peas. Wth a side of savory and buttery cornbread, just how I like it.
I am thankful for the little things like being able to make these comfort foods, and for having a job that actually has policies in place and actually enforces them to keep me safe. For pushing myself to start therapy this year to deal with my childhood demons that keep haunting me as well as bad coping habits that helped when I was a kid but aren't healthy for me now as an adult. I know, objectively, things will get better and that I will get better and feel better, too. It's hard to feel that way right now, but I'm gonna try to just keep telling myself that.
