Old Land Cruiser Wins Against the New
Tumblr media
Toyota just unveiled the most recent iteration of their renowned Land Cruiser SUV, which is built on brand-new architecture and features a twin-turbo V-6 engine. Here, we'll remind you of the key distinctions between the current and previous versions.
The Motor:
A newly created 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 409 horsepower (305 kW) and 650 Nm of torque has replaced the 5.7-liter V8.
The turbo pair allows the V6 to generate almost 30 horsepower more than the V8 despite having fewer cylinders. Torque increases considerably by about 108 Nm, and the engine is also more efficient than the engine in the previous iteration.
Front Exterior:
The GR Yaris hot hatch and Supra's headlight design are somewhat evocative of the new front of the LC300, which adds a touch of modernity both inside and out.
The latest generation features two front grilles, albeit one of them is small in size and extends from the bottom of the huge grille to contact the headlamps as soon as we glance at the automobile. The Land Cruiser 2022 now has a more intimidating aspect than the 2021 model, which has a massive grille that separates the headlamps into two halves.
Rear Exterior:
The slimmer LED lights in the 2022 edition, combined with a thinner back glass, made the design seem smaller than the previous car, which led many fans to prefer the older version.
The Interior:
With the addition of an entertainment system compatible with a 9-inch screen as standard and a 12.3-inch screen as an option, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, the inside of the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser underwent clear and sophisticated improvements.
The potential for wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree camera, and a front screen on the windscreen are other distinguishing features.
The Land Cruiser 2021, on the other hand, has an integrated navigation system with a 9-inch touchscreen and wireless charging for gadgets. A 14-speaker JBL audio system and satellite radio are included as standard. The options menu may include a rear-seat entertainment system with two 11.6-inch screens and a pair of wireless headphones.
We appreciate everyone who voted, and please check back frequently for new Tazweed coverage.

10 Cheap JDM Cars That Will Skyrocket In Value | HotCars
Tumblr media
The Property of the Rising Sun has provided us some of the sickest performance cars on earth . There's the amazingly gorgeous Toyota 2000 GRAND TOURING from the 1960s, different decades of the Nissan GT-R plus Z-cars, Mazda's rotary-powered monsters, the list of automotive gemstones from Japan doesn't appear to end.
Updated April 2021: This particular list has been updated to be able to more accurate and better reveal the current Japanese classic vehicle market. In some cases, prices have got increased drastically, but you may still find plenty of bargains out there for drivers who are willing to spend some time searching the particular classifieds. There's certainly no much better time to buy one of these vehicles than right now as costs are expected to increase even more.
For whatever reason, Japan classics never fetched just as much as their European or United states counterparts, at least not till recently. Nowadays, JDM symbols such as the MKIV Toyota Supra are already traversing the auction block nicely into 6-figure price ranges , way out of reach for the standard car enthusiast.
RELATED: 10 Of The Best Nissan Vehicle Models On The Market
However , you may still find some diamonds in the tough, just waiting for their time for you to shine. That means it's time for you to go dig through the sofa for some pocket change plus hit up your local classified listings for one of these future JDM classics.
10 Ford Prelude 3rd Generation
Tumblr media
via Uniquecarsandparts
Honda’s sports activities coupe never really enjoyed especially strong sales during the 23 years on the market. It had been somewhat popular, but few-people realized what a gem it truly was. The reason might be right down to its increased price plus lower practicality, making it overshadowed by some of Honda’s various other offerings, such as the Accord Sports coupe. But Honda’s loss can be your gain.
The Prelude – especially the 3rd Generation Model – is almost like a baby NSX design-wise. A mere fistful associated with dollars will get you a smooth wedge design, popup car headlights, and body-hugging bucket chairs in a car with a nice looking overall personality – it also has the handling to match! The particular 4-wheel-steering equipped Si versions even outshone Ferraris plus Corvettes of the era within slalom tests.
nine Toyota Celica GT-S 7th Generation
Tumblr media
via Motortrend
After an entire 36 years on the market, Toyota said goodbye to the affordable sports coupe using this 7th and final era. The 7th-gen GT-S can rev up to 8, three hundred RPM and made one hundred and eighty horsepower straight off the display room floor. But it didn't finish there, Toyota Racing Advancement, or TRD for brief, offered a number of bolt-on improvements, including a performance exhaust, brief shifter, lowering springs, along with a more aerodynamic body package.
RELATED: fifteen Surprising Facts Toyota Executives Want Drivers To Disregard
TRD even designed the supercharger for the engine, yet you’ll have to do some function to make it fit under the Celica’s hood. Speaking of what's underneath the hood, this engine is a star, Lotus used it within cars such as the Elise plus Exige.
8 Acura RSX Type-S
Tumblr media
via Supercars
The particular Acura Integra was a good icon of the 90s plus proved front-wheel-drive cars can still hold their own – especially with the incredible Integra Type-R . Good luck finding one of those pertaining to sensible money these days even though. Honda tried to fill the particular Integra's big shoes using this – the Acura RSX. However , it never really achieved the same cult status since the Integra, but that doesn't imply the RSX Type-S was obviously a bad car.
The 210 horsepower, guide 6-speed transmission-only coupe has been bathed in sporty additions, like bigger brakes, sport-tuned managing, a re-worked engine, plus an optional body package reminiscent of the Type-R, enormous wing and all. You'll want to get your own sooner rather than later.
7 Infiniti G35
Tumblr media
via Pinterest
This might perfectly be the cheapest way directly into Skyline ownership. That’s due to the fact, in The japanese, the G35 was advertised as a Skyline .
ASSOCIATED: 15 Surprising Information about The Nissan Skyline
It provides rear-wheel drive, a 6-speed manual transmission, and it's really fun to drive. Plus, that it is available in both coupe plus sedan configurations. Find yourself an example, and you might just have an upcoming classic on your hands. As well as, you can tell people a person drive a Skyline, and you also can't put a price label on that!
six Mazda Miata NB
Tumblr media
through Auto123
This little Mazda is usually virtually guaranteed to be a good appreciating asset at this point. The first gen ‘NA’ Miatas were climbing in price for a few years currently, but the NB can still become picked up for reasonable cash.
RELATED: 3 decades Of The Mazda MX-5 Miata In 15 Pictures
The particular NB Miata featured numerous updates over its forerunner, most notably the deletion from the popup headlights, which is indeed a shame. However , the Miata is all about providing its proprietor with the maximum amount of traveling fun with little extras at a low cost. The NORTH CAROLINA and ND variants appear to have forgotten about the cheap part. But not this small guy.
5 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart
Tumblr media
via Carsinvasion
Consider it a baby Lancer Evolution. The particular Ralliart bridged the distance between the standard Lancer as well as the iconic top of the line Evo . It showcased the same engine as present in the Evo, albeit within slightly detuned form since it was paired with a smaller sized turbocharger.
Additionally, it had some Evo-style the rules of aerodynamics going on, including a new front side and rear bumper as well as the all-important rear spoiler. They have an understated car with a lot of potential, and it should be acquired before other enthusiasts begin recognizing it for what.
4 Subaru Legacy 2 . 5GT Spec. B
Tumblr media
via Netcarshow
Subaru has high end and sporty covered perfectly with the WRX STI and the BRZ sports coupe . Their flagship vehicle, the Legacy, is significantly softer, more luxurious, and much more comfortable. But that does not mean there’s no space for some zoom.
RELATED: 10 Things Everyone Did not remember About The Subaru Impreza
There is indeed a run associated with high-performance Legacy models. Referred to as Spec. B, it showcased bigger wheels, stiffer shock absorbers, a 6-speed manual transmission – all packed in the subtle, almost nondescript package deal, unlike its STI brother.
3 Lexus SC 300
Tumblr media
via Bestcarmag
Rear-wheel generate, 6-speed manual, 2JZ motor. But it isn’t really a Supra . The particular Lexus SC model was obviously a luxury grand touring vehicle that the company finally murdered off in 2010. We're the majority of interested in that first-generation base design though. Usually, with luxurious cars, people tend to get a bigger engine and opt for more features. But with the SOUTH CAROLINA, the entry-level ‘300’ design featured the same iconic inline-6 that made the MKIV Supra so special.
Granted, the Lexus lacked the twin-turbo set up. But just imagine the substantial aftermarket support available for this particular thing. The problem as a purchaser these days is that some proprietors are starting to become very conscious of the fact that there's a special motor hiding under the hood of the old Lexus, but discount hunters can still find good examples under $7, 000, occasionally even cheaper if you're ready to put in some work to be able to roadworthy.
2 Datsun/Nissan 300ZX
Tumblr media
via Chromjewelen
The notice Z has quite a status to uphold in the Nissan family. You’d be hard-pressed to find a cheap, good condition 240/260/280z these days. But the Z31 plus Z32 300ZX might be the following best thing. By all steps, they drive better, manage better, and are more sleek than the famous Z-cars . But they never ever garnered the same degree of commitment the old Z’s enjoy – until now, anyway.
RELATED: Custom 1985 Nissan 300ZX Packs Supercharged OF V8 Power
The Z32 is certainly arguably one of Nissan’s most well-known vehicles, but it’s simple to find examples for well below $10, 000, as long as you're pleased with the naturally aspirated edition rather than the twin-turbo model. In the mean time, the Z31 still has not gotten more popular and can simply be had for less than $5, 000.
1 Honda Civic
Tumblr media
via Wheelsage
Given that a low mileage Ford Civic Si sold for fifty dollars, 000 at auction , it might not be a bad idea to acquire a pristine classic instance yourself. You can still discover affordable examples of Honda’s bestselling compact around and if this particular trend continues, you could be sitting down on a fuel-efficient goldmine – if it’s not been mistreated or rusted through however.
The sixth-generation and older Civics are getting more expensive as we speak, specifically the performance versions. Civics from 2001 and more recent are still bargains, and perhaps better cars than their particular older siblings, if not since iconic.

Toyota GR Yaris: The Ultimate Pocket Rocket
Tumblr media
Rally racing is one of the most intense and dangerous forms of motorsport out there. Breakneck speeds on cliff-side dirt roads, a co-driver yelling directions over the deafening roar of a straight pipe exhaust and unpredictable road and weather conditions are all potential walls to remaining focused and retaining control of the vehicle. Everything needs to be executed immaculately. All in what is essentially a modified street car. It is a true test of pure driver skill and driver/co-driver teamwork.
Official rally events have a strict set of rules and regulations to ensure a fair competition. One of the universal requirements is that the competing vehicle is based on a production street car in the real world with at least 25,000 built units. Frequently rally-converted cars include the Ford Focus/Fiesta, Subaru WRX and Volkswagen Golf/Polo. This is where the 2021 GR Yaris comes into the picture. It is a high-performance hot hatch, designed to be the perfect platform for rally racing. The end goal for Toyota is to have a new vehicle to compete with in the World Rally Championship, by converting a GR Yaris into WRC (world rally car) specification, thus replacing the current Yaris WRC. To do so, Toyota first needs to build and sell the GR Yaris to the public as a street car.
Tumblr media
Current Yaris WRC used for competing in the World Rally Championship
2021 GR Yaris
Performance
GR, which stands for Gazoo Racing, is Toyota’s in-house performance division. While most offerings from Gazoo Racing are essentially modified versions of currently existing models, enhanced with various performance parts to improve the driving experience, the GR Yaris is a different car from a standard Yaris at the core. Its chassis is a hybrid between that of a regular Yaris (as sold in Europe, Japan and Australia- not the re-badged Mazda 2 “Yaris” sold in the US) and of a Corolla/C-HR. This new platform features more weld points and structural adhesive, rendering the GR Yaris as more than your average performance-enhanced hatchback.
Tumblr media
GR Yaris racing through sand and gravel
Aside from a new chassis, the GR Yaris is longer, wider, lower and more lightweight than a standard Yaris. And then there’s the engine. Under the hood is now officially the world’s most powerful three cylinder engine: a turbo 1.6 liter that makes up to 257 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Linked to the engine is a standard six-speed manual transmission, and an advanced 4WD system that can modulate torque delivery between the front and rear half of the car. It can be front-wheel-biased, 50/50 balanced, or rear-wheel-biased. All depends on the type of thrill you are seeking in the moment. An optional Circuit Pack adds performance suspension, big brake rotors and calipers, lightweight wheels and high-grip tires to compliment the power and structural rigidity.
Test Drive Impressions
Test drivers at Top Gear took the GR Yaris out for a spin, and had nothing but praise for its driving dynamics: “It’s a short, broad, stiff car. The heavily strengthened bodyshell means zero creaks and rattles and gives the suspension a rigid central core to work from. The GR Yaris doesn’t feel anything like a standard Yaris when you get in. It feels robust... small and light. With punchy dynamics and a gutsy motor, it’s a deeply compelling machine... an addictive experience. The best Toyota we’ve ever driven.”
Motor Trend also had the chance to experience the GR Yaris, and the drivers there were left with a positive impression as well: “The GR Yaris feels like a car developed by race engineers. The brakes are superb, the steering is accurate and well weighted. But what’s most impressive is how smoothly the GR Yaris gets into corners… and how concisely it tracks through them. You can go to power much earlier than in any of its front- or even all-wheel-drive rivals and let the differentials do their thing. Just steer where you want to go, and the GR Yaris will go there. There isn't a hot hatch on the planet that gets out of corners as quickly and confidently as this Toyota.”
Design
The exterior design looks very aggressive. Inward slanted headlights and a big rectangular grille make for an angry face that would certainly catch attention on the road. The fenders are nicely pronounced, with the two door configuration helping make way for beautifully wide rear fenders, effectively giving it a widebody look. The hood has a bulge in the middle, further accentuating it as a performance car. Overall, the GR Yaris looks like a proper performance hatchback, shamelessly boasting its motorsport roots.

The interior is simple, to-the-point, and driver-focused. A well-bolstered leather steering wheel, round leather gear-shift knob, physical e-brake, aluminum pedals, suede bucket seats and a simple, distraction-free dashboard all make for an interior that looks ready to provide for the hooning needs of a car enthusiast.

Conclusion
From the experiences of the test drivers at Top Gear and Motor Trend, one thing is clear: The GR Yaris is a genuine thrill machine. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 143 mph, which are decent performance numbers, but the numbers don’t matter so much with a car like this. What matters most is the feeling of the driving experience. With a small, compact performance hatchback, you usually get a well-controlled, agile and responsive ride that feels faster than it actually is. The GR Yaris, with it being a proper hot hatch, is built to induce a total adrenaline rush, and according to the drivers at Motor Trend, it “feels quicker” than its actual acceleration and top speed. They explain this as “a function of size… you simply don't expect a car smaller than a Corolla to deliver the neck-snapping launch and determined acceleration of the GR Yaris.”
Unfortunately, the GR Yaris will not be sold in the US, but the 86 and Supra are both available, and are heart-pounding enthusiast’s cars as well. When converted from British Pounds, the starting price is around $40,000 and the Circuit Pack model is around $45,000.
With its rally roots, the GR Yaris has a robust structure that is capable of traversing at speed both on and off-road. The world is for the taking in Toyota’s new hot hatch.

10 MODELS FROM TORONTO AUTO SHOW 2019
The Queen City is starting today and for the next 10 days, the host of the Toronto International Auto Show. Here are 10 attractions that are worth seeing.
1- Bugatti Chiron lego
Unless we have a real Bugatti Chiron as we saw in Montreal, Toronto presents a full-size model made entirely of Lego TECHNIC elements. This vehicle, inaugurated at the Italian Grand Prix of Monza last summer, is composed of more than a million pieces and required 13,000 hours of work and did not require any adhesive, only Lego pieces.
This Chiron has the real tires of the original car and also has the rear spoiler, functional front and rear lights, a speedometer, a brake pedal and also has a removable steering wheel. It can also move thanks to its small electric batteries and reach a maximum speed of ... 28 km / h.

2- Sport Pesa Racing Point F1
Tumblr media
10 MODELS FROM TORONTO AUTO SHOW 2019
An out-of-the-ordinary presentation took place the day before the press day at the Toronto Auto Show. The new Formula 1 Sport Pesa Racing Point team (which replaces Force India), largely funded by Canadian interests and led by Laurence Stroll, officially introduced its team and drivers to members of the press.
This is the first time in history that a F1 team presents a vehicle outside of England where all presentations take place. It is also a team composed solely of North American pilots with Quebec's Lance Stroll and Mexican Sergio Perez.
Equipped with the Mercedes engine, the team is already aiming to be among the top four teams in the next season and is aiming for the top three in 2020. We can only wish them good luck. And for those who wonder why this car was not presented in Montreal where the Grand Prix du Canada takes place, Laurence Stroll explained that the car was not ready.
3- BMW Z4
Tumblr media
10 MODELS FROM TORONTO AUTO SHOW 2019
She was not in Detroit, mainly because BMW was not there at all, and she was not in Montreal either. It was finally Toronto who had the privilege of unveiling the news and waiting for Z4.
With sales starting in March, this Z4 will turn many heads. It shares its chassis with the new Toyota Supra and both models are built on the same assembly line in Austria.
The model on display at the Toronto Auto Show is a Z4 M40i version that will arrive a little later and is equipped with a turbocharged 382-horsepower 3.0-liter six-cylinder. There will also be a 2.0-liter 2.0-liter turbo version of 255 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be the only option available. No, no manual gearbox.
4- Volkswagen GLI and ID CROZZ
Tumblr media
10 MODELS FROM TORONTO AUTO SHOW 2019
Volkswagen put the package in Toronto by first introducing the Volkswagen Jetta GLI. With its 2.0-liter GTI engine, this Jetta offers 231 horsepower and plenty of fun in sight. To handle this power, a 7-speed automatic DSG dual clutch transmission. But also, for purists there will be a six-speed manual gearbox.
Another interesting point, the rear suspension torsion beam of the regular Jetta disappears in favor of an independent multi-link suspension, while the struts at the front enjoy a more sporty calibration. It promises and it will be in concession in two weeks.
Volks also presented a concept ID CROZZ presented in Canadian premiere. Built on the new SEM platform specific to future electric models, the CROZZ will be marketed in 2021 as a 2022 model and according to Volkswagen, this concept is very visually close to the production model.
5- Mercedes Benz EQC
Tumblr media
10 MODELS FROM TORONTO AUTO SHOW 2019
Mercedes promises a fleet of 10 fully electric vehicles by 2022. After a first presentation at the Paris Motor Show in 2018, Toronto in turn presented the EQC, the first 100% electric model that will be marketed by Mercedes. We should see it arrive on the Canadian market in early 2020.
Its 80 kWh engine offers a power of 402 horsepower, acceleration 0-110 km / h announced at about 5 seconds and a range exceeding 400 km. In addition, this EQC looks like a SUV and does not show in a particular way its green side.
6- Porsche Panamera GTS
Tumblr media
10 MODELS FROM TORONTO AUTO SHOW 2019
The three most interesting letters of the Porsche family are GTS. Porsche presented the latest version of the Panamera GTS in Toronto. With an eight-cylinder, 4.0-liter, 453 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque, this big family sedan promises amazing performance. A 0-100 km / h shot in 4.1 seconds and if you find a deserted road it will take you to 292 km / h with its eight-speed PDK gearbox.
You will have guessed that each horsepower at its price. The Panamera GTS arrives in mid-2019 with a price that will start at $ 146,200 for the sedan and 153,900 for the Sport Turismo model.
7- Audi e-tron
Tumblr media
10 MODELS FROM TORONTO AUTO SHOW 2019
The new e-tron will arrive in Canada in the second quarter of 2019 and will cost about $ 90,000, that is for the most part. Audi, like the other German manufacturers, decided to go green after being seriously baited by Tesla. We intend to hand over the coin to the Californian manufacturer.
The 95 kWh engine is announced at around 400 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque passing through the 4-wheel drive as it should be at Audi which promises a range of more than 400 km in a format that is close to that of a car. Q7. Other SUVs to consider for those with deep enough pockets.
8- Lexus LF-1 Limitless
Tumblr media
10 MODELS FROM TORONTO AUTO SHOW 2019
The Lexus LF-1 Limitless is the interpretation of Lexus' sedan of the future. This concept has been designed to be powered by a multitude of electrified powertrains: fuel cell, self-charging gasoline-electric hybrid, gas-electric pluggable and battery powered. This is for the moment only an exercise in style.
Lexus has already announced the adoption of a "Chauffeur mode". This technology allows full hands-free driving, thanks to the vehicle's electronic control devices that control steering, braking, acceleration, as well as headlights, lights and turn signals.
9- RAM Warlock
Tumblr media
10 MODELS FROM TORONTO AUTO SHOW 2019
In 1976, the first Dodge Warlock vehicle was introduced as a result of the public's positive reaction to a truck designed as a concept vehicle for a motor show. Dodge produced the truck for three years until 1979.
RAM comes back with a similar concept, the Warlock 2019. The RAM 1500 Classic Warlock 2019 features a black grille with large RAM lettering, 20 "black aluminum semi-gloss wheels, side bumpers front and rear pulverized shells, a 2.5 cm (1 in.) taller factory body, black fender flares, LED fog lights, headlamps with dark color hubcaps, LED taillights, black emblem, towing hooks, unique bonnet stickers, Warlock stickers on storage bins, reinforced shock absorbers.
This model arrives at the end of the first quarter of 2019 from $ 51,715
10- Nissan LEAF Nismo RC
Tumblr media
10 MODELS FROM TORONTO AUTO SHOW 2019
Nissan unveiled for the first time in a motor show its brand new LEAF NISMO RC. East Asian Carmakers are building luxury cars to rival BMW and Mercedes Benz
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage Europe and the United States, leading to the shut downs of BMW’s factories around Europe accounting for slightly more than 1.2 million cars for the group and Daimler maker of Mercedes-Benz stopping all production in Europe for at least two weeks with interrupted global supply chains, East Asian carmakers from China, South Korea and Japan are putting out luxury cars to rival their continental luxury car counterparts.
For a long time, Asian automotive manufacturers competed on pricing as continental carmakers out-designed and out-innovated their East-Asian counterparts on superior design, driver comfort and sheer luxuriousness but with declines in global car sales likely to be worse than expected and coupled with rising concerns that the greatest recession ever seen since the Great Depression is on the horizon, three Asian carmakers in particular, are putting out ultra-competitive luxury cars in terms of both pricing and aesthetics.

Allegorically speaking, this development is hardly surprising. Apple iPhones began as the dominant smartphone during the early days of touchscreen devices, but as Korean makers of android smartphones like Samsung and China’s Huawei caught up in terms of design (and today, even pricing), Samsung became the leader of the global smartphone market with 21.8% share and 298.1 million units; followed by Huawei with 17.6%, and Apple with 14.5%. It stands to reason that as these East Asian carmakers continue to improve and refine their offerings, it is just a matter of time before they’re competing with the likes of BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi on equal footing.
Introducing: 2021 Genesis G80 from South Korea
Featuring a massive, aesthetically regal, crest-shaped grille, the Genesis G80 with its long, seamless sloping roofline and sleek styling would easily look like anything the flagship car models from Bentley, BMW or Benz marques but instead, it hails from South Korea.  The 2021 Genesis G80 is the third generation of that range.
Originally badged Hyundai Genesis in 2008 until Genesis was spun off as a separate luxury carmaking entity in 2017. Genesis Motor LLC counts the talents of Luc Donckerwolke, former design director of Volkswagen subsidiaries Bentley, Lamborghini and Audi; Filippo Perini, former Lamborghini head of design; and Peter Schreyer, formerly principal designer of the VW Golf, New Beetle, and the Audi TT among their designers which counts for why this Asian luxury sedan looks like a competitive counterpart to its continental brethren.
It’s not just the exterior of the 2021 Genesis G80 which screams European sophistication, its interior is a match as well.  Sumptuous wood accents, a gorgeous if barely perceptible air-conditioning vent around the cabin, and an expansive high definition 14.5-inch infotainment screen. Innovative acoustic glass, all improved door seals, and special engine-compartment muffling also make a ride in the new Genesis G80 comparable to its upscale European competitors.
A 3.5-litre turbo V6 rated at 375 horsepower accompanied with driver assistance software like blind-spot collision avoidance assist, forward-collision avoidance assist and automated remote parking render any potential selling arguments for looking at a European marque (other than for reasons of brand prestige pointless).
Introducing: 2020 Hongqi H9 from China
“It is the meanest, baddest-looking son of a bitch the world has seen.” – Jeremy Clarkson, referring to the Honqi L5 for The Times.
红旗 or Hongqi, meaning “red flag”, was launched in 1958, making it the oldest Chinese passenger car marque. Owned by the automaker FAW Car Company, Hongqi was designated as the premier car available only to high-ranking government officials. Since its revival in the mid 1990s, Hongqi has gone from strength to strength, used by then Chinese President Hu Jintao, predecessor of Xi Jinping during the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and then later on its high profile appearance on Jeremy Clarkson’s Grand Tour in 2019 where he called it “China’s answer to the Bentley” and in a review for the UK’s The Times, he compared it to a Rolls-Royce.
Designed to compete with the Mercedes S-class and the BMW seven series, the 2020 Hongqi H9 was the combined work of  Rolls-Royce ex-designer Giles Taylor and veteran stylist Dinh Yanfeng. Unlike the G80 from South Korea, the design cues of the new Hongqi H9 is recognisable: China is the biggest market for the Mercedes-Mayback and the H9 is a direct, if literal, competitor to that model.
As with current luxury car trends, an intimidating radiator grille with a contiguous stream of the headlights creates a magnificent countenance with immense swagger for the Hongqi H9. They went all out with this, featuring retractable door handles, the stance and body shape of the H9 looks like the designers cross-bred a Rolls-Royce Dawn with a Bentley Mulsanne.
Luxurious refinement abounds throughout the vehicle. Inside, splendid leather and wood cabin provides a framed backdrop to the inset instrument panel while the display in the center console controls the functions of the car. On the wheel are touch keys and the start button of the motor arms is between the climate control.
Introducing: 2020 GR Supra from Japan
For a while, Japanese sports cars appeared to lag behind their Euro-counterparts n terms of styling. Possessed of 1990s aesthetics, the new 2020 GR Supra developed by Toyota Gazoo Racingget gets a 21st Century rebirth. Unlike the Nissan GT-R: a four-wheel drive masterpiece, and aluminium-bodied, mid-engined V6 Honda NSX before it, the Toyota GR Supra might be a phoenix rising but it still remains faithful to its 40-year formula with supercharged specs and aesthetics.
Featuring a straight-6 turbocharged engine, the Supra pumps out an incredible 500Nm of torque and has a staggering 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds. And with its perfectly balanced 50:50 front and rear weight distribution and a lightweight yet highly rigid chassis, it can be considered an engineering marvel. That said, critics decried the Japanese automaker for its BMW-sourced platform and drivetrain but I’m going to say it – a good sportscar shouldn’t just drive like one – what separated Japanese sports cars from their Porsche and Aston Martin euro-counterparts is epic styling and the 2020 GR Supra looks every inch the part.
While the Cayman is a mid-engined, flat-four from an obviously more premium marque, their technical specifications on paper put them head to head: the GR Supra puts out 335 horses to the Porsche 718 Cayman’s 345 for a fraction of the cost of it’s European competition. Aesthetically, it’s attractive, distinct and doesn’t look like a typical Japanese sportscar thanks to design cues from Formula 1 racers. With perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a low center of gravity for sharp handling, Supra completes its 100 kmh sprint in 4.1 seconds with explosive torque as you hit the accelerator, accompanied by an exhaust “soundtrack” comparable to continental supercars and its signature crackles and pops.

2020 Morgan Plus Six First Look: Wooden Ya Know
On the occasion of its 110th anniversary, the tiny manufacturer of timeless exposed-fendered, ash-framed sports cars and three-wheelers from Malvern Link, England, had big news to share in Geneva. Timed to coincide with the end (last year) of its naturally aspirated BMW V-8 engine supply, the company has tooled up a completely new chassis built around its replacement engine—the venerable BMW B58 TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine. The Plus Eight is dead, long live the Morgan Plus Six!
Yes, the same engine that powers the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra two-seaters will also motivate this one, producing 335 hp and 369 lb-ft and mated to the familiar eight-speed automatic found in the BMW applications. It is both the first inline six-cylinder and the first turbo employed in a Morgan, and it’s said to propel the roughly 2,500-pound roadster to 62 mph in just 4.2 seconds en route to a top speed of 165 mph. That’s a 0.3-second, 10-mph improvement over the 367-hp/370-lb-ft Plus Eight’s quoted performance. Better still, the official CO2 rating improves by an impressive 40 percent, eliminating onerous taxation in some markets that rendered the Plus Eight all but unsalable.
!function(e,n,t){var o,c=e.getElementsByTagName(n)[0];e.getElementById(t)||(o=e.createElement(n),o.id=t,o.src="//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.2",c.parentNode.insertBefore(o,c))}(document,"script","facebook-jssdk");
As for the chassis, the good thing about waiting 19 years between redesigns is that engineering technology and best practices march so much further on that you can make impressive pronouncements like this one: “Torsional rigidity has been increased by 100 percent over the previous-generation chassis [with] no extra weight penalty.” Wow, what a noodle the old one musta been!
Dubbed the CX-generation (Roman numerals for 110, get it?), this bonded aluminum chassis, developed in house, features a 20mm wheelbase stretch that, along with a new, thinner seat design and other savvy packaging results in 200mm more legroom and 31 percent more stowage space. I didn’t immediately convert those figures (0.8 and 7.9 inches) as a segue to this other notable press-release quote from John Beech, the chief engineer: “The Plus Six is the first metric Morgan, which may sound strange, but this is the first time we’ve captured the whole vehicle architecture, chassis, [body-in-white structure], suspension, electronics, and interior trim.” More wow.
Less than 1 percent of the bill of materials is shared with other Morgan models, though the cars are crafted in very much the same way. Hand-formed aluminum body panels are affixed to English ash framing (which is now thicker for greater strength), and the suspension is via coil-over shocks and control arms all around, augmented by toe-control links in the rear. The geometry and tuning of the suspension and bushings take full advantage of the vastly more rigid CX platform.
Other bold upgrades in technology include the first fitment of automatic headlights and the first puddle lamps offered on a Morgan. A small LCD information screen is integrated into the instrument cluster, but care has been taken not to present distracting information on it. The doors provide added side-impact protection and feature speakers secreted behind the leather covering. Before you know it, Morgans will offer voice commands and radar cruise control …
Inspired by 1960’s ‘road racers’, a lightweight composite hard top transforms the Plus Six. Discover more at https://t.co/m4I0GwpgbP #Morgan #GIMS2019 pic.twitter.com/W6dM2bX8Sv
— Morgan Motor Company (@morganmotor) March 7, 2019
Four Plus Six variants are available at launch, known as the Morgan Plus Six, Plus Six Touring, and two Plus Six First Editions, in Moonstone or Emerald livery. The initial production of First Edition models will sell for $117,848 with later base models opening at $102,135 (prices are in England, and include value-added tax). Morgan is quite keen to sell its flagship product in the U.S., and the CX architecture is completely package-protected to meet our regulations. Final approval of the United States Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015 would certainly speed things up, but Congress gonna congress, so don’t hold your breath. Marketing chief Toby Blythe says he expects to be in our market within two years. For now, Morgan is importing 3 Wheelers, and you can get the “narrow body” Plus Four model; it just has to be imported as a “rolling coach” sans engine, and the dealer completes assembly in the U.S. Not sure where your nearest dealer is? Contact one of the largest, which is within a mile of MotorTrend’s Detroit office: Auto Europe.
Oh, and the other big news: Morgan just got a big cash infusion from a new majority stakeholder, Investindustrial, a European firm that has also invested in Aston Martin. This is either sad news of yet another British automaker succumbing to European ownership, or it’s just the lifeline that was needed to keep the lights on at one of England’s oldest automakers. We think the world is more interesting with Morgan in it.
2020 Morgan Plus 6 BASE PRICE $102,135-$117,848 (UK-market prices) VEHICLE LAYOUT Front-engine, RWD, 2-pass, 2-door convertible ENGINE 3.0L/335-hp/369-lb-ft turbocharged DOHC 24-valve I-6 TRANSMISSION 8-speed automatic CURB WEIGHT 2,500 lb (est) WHEELBASE 98.8 in LENGTH X WIDTH X HEIGHT 153.1 x 69.1 x 48.0 in 0-62 MPH 4.2 sec (mfr est) EPA CITY/HWY/COMB FUEL ECON Not yet tested ON SALE IN U.S. 2021 (estimated)

2021 Toyota Sienna: Hybrid Power to the People Mover
The 2021 Toyota Sienna minivan is many things: technologically advanced, fuel-efficient, and well equipped. Beautiful? Not so much.
Marking the model’s first redesign since the 2011 model year, the fourth-generation Sienna trades its forebear’s boxy and upright looks for more modern wares. Despite its more contemporary design, Toyota’s new minivan is not attractive in the conventional sense. Blame a mishmash of styling details that lack any sense of cohesion.
Penned by its California and Michigan design teams, Toyota’s latest Sienna boasts a front end inspired by the mug of Japan’s Shinkansen bullet trains. High-mounted, swept-back headlights pair with a large lower grille to give the Toyota people mover a distinct if hard to love face.
The same goes for the van’s side surfacing details, which include overstyled rear haunches that blend into a set of Supra-esque taillights. Those rear lamps, meanwhile, frame a busy-looking tailgate, replete with an integrated spoiler that protrudes beneath the rear glass. (Toyota credits a molded resin production process for the feature.)
Whether the new Sienna’s disparate design is worthy of carrying on its predecessor’s self-proclaimed title of “swagger wagon” is a matter of personal taste. (Or is that marketing persistence?)
Swagger Wagon! Part Deux
Look, Honda went weird with the Odyssey in 2018, and the brand’s minivan did not seem to suffer for it. That’s because most minivan buyers don’t shop for looks, but practicality. The Sienna’s real sense of swagger comes not from its design but from its powertrain, which forgoes segment norms by ditching the prior model’s V-6 engine for a gasoline-electric hybrid setup. With a total of 243 horsepower, the van’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors are down 53 horses compared to the old 3.5-liter V-6.
In this case, less power leads to greater fuel efficiency, and Toyota estimates the 2021 Sienna sips a gallon of fuel every 33 miles in combined city and highway driving. That’s 12 miles per gallon better than the most efficient 2020 Sienna and 3 mpg ahead of the 260-hp Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid in its gasoline-electric drive mode.
Unlike the six-cylinder Pacifica Hybrid and its 16.0-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, though, the Sienna’s smaller battery pack lacks plug-in capability. Although the Sienna offers an EV mode that allows it to travel short distances at low speeds on electricity alone (there are also Normal, Eco, and Sport driving modes), the Toyota van’s EV driving capabilities fall far short of the Chrysler’s EPA-rated 32 miles of electric-only range.
What the Sienna lacks in emissions-free driving capabilities, it makes up for with its 3,500-pound maximum towing capacity. That sum matches the figures put up by V-6 competitors such as the Honda Odyssey and Kia Sedona. It also handily trumps the Pacifica Hybrid, which is “not recommended” to tow. That said, the standard gas-swilling Pacifica’s 3,600-pound towing capacity remains the segment’s best.
Furthermore, an available motor mounted on the rear axle allows Toyota to once again offer the Sienna with all-wheel drive. In certain situations, such as accelerating from a standstill, as much as 80 percent of the powertrain’s available grunt comes courtesy of the rear motor. The addition of all-wheel drive to the 2021 Pacifica, however, means the Sienna no longer serves as the lone minivan option that pushes power to all four of its wheels.
Comfort King
Like its Avalon, Camry, RAV4, and Highlander stablemates, the Sienna uses a variant of the Toyota New Global Architecture platform (TNGA-K). The rigid structure promises noticeable improvements to the minivan’s handling and ride quality while also allegedly reducing interior noise levels.
A quieter cabin is far from the only enhancement to the Sienna’s innards, and the van welcomes a new-look dashboard that includes a standard 7.0-inch gauge cluster display and 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Additionally, the dash now formally connects to the van’s center console, which houses the shift lever and myriad storage cubbies, as well as an open area below for holding larger personal items.
“People driving minivans feel like they are driving a bus,” Kevin Hunter, president of Toyota’s Calty Design Research, Hunter said. “We wanted something more personal. So we redid the interior, dash, and center console.” Middle-row passengers benefit from additional stretch-out space courtesy of the Sienna’s available and appropriately named “Super Long Slide” bucket seats, which provide up to 25 inches of fore and aft adjustability. The second row also includes integrated footrests on higher-spec Sienna models. Notably missing from the van’s middle row, however: fold-into-the-floor seats like those of the (non-hybrid) Chrysler Pacifica. Lower-spec Siennas, meanwhile, trade the extra sliding ability of the Super Long Slide buckets for a second-row bench that raises overall seating capacity from seven to eight and includes a middle section that folds into the floor when not in use.
Safe and Sound
Available in LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum trims, all 2021 Sienna models come standard with advanced safety and convenience features such as automatic front braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beam headlights, lane departure warning, lane centering, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and power sliding doors.
Of course, Toyota still incentivizes buyers to move up the trim level ladder by reserving options like kick-activated power sliding doors, a power liftgate, front and rear parking sensors, and an in-dash navigation system.
Likewise, Toyota reserves the coolest and kitschiest features for the high-end Limited and Platinum trims, which offer heated/ventilated front seats, a power tilting and telescoping steering column, and a built-in vacuum. The flagship Platinum model also adds a refrigerator, a 10.0-inch head-up display, and a 360-degree camera to the mix.
Although Toyota remains mum on pricing details for the 2021 Sienna, the company’s decisions to fit a gasoline-electric powertrain as standard equipment and add to the model’s roster of safety and convenience features are sure to raise the van’s base price. Given that the new Sienna does away with the outgoing van’s $32,760 L trim, it’s likely the redesigned model’s starting sum will match—or come close to—the $35,580 Toyota charges for the 2020 Sienna LE. In other words, expect the 2021 Toyota Sienna’s cost of entry to straddle the line between those of its V-6 counterparts from Chrysler, Honda, and Kia, and the gasoline-electric Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.
