2020 SEMA Show Reveals...
The SEMA show always showcases vehicles that are our of this world, and to no surprise there are some pretty awesome Toyota concepts that just came out at this year’s show! Out of the four concepts, we’ll dive into a closer look at the 2021 GR Supra Sport Top and the TRD-Sport trailer for the 2021 Toyota Tacoma. Toyota of Orlando has all the details, check it out!
Toyota GR Supra Sport Top
Anyone ever notice that the latest model of the Orlando Toyota Supra isn’t a convertible like how it was back in the day? Well not anymore! This year’s SEMA show revealed a Toyota Supra Sport Top model, in other words, a convertible! Evidently, the structural integrity of the vehicle was a strong consideration with this whole redesign because of safety concerns. Thankfully, Toyota was able to pull it off, and along with the top being able to be brought down, the Supra offers rounded taillights, a canopy wit a piano-black finish, a sleek wing in the back, and more.
TRD-Sport Trailer
This Toyota concept was created to compliment the Orlando Toyota Tacoma. It’s a trailer that serves as a home away from home for those who like “getting off the grid”. This Toyota concept includes a Yakima four person tent, a hot water heater, slide out sink and stove, a trash can, lighting for the campsite, and more!
Honestly, we’re not sure if we’ll ever see these Toyota concepts come our way. Nevertheless, if we do see it, you’ll be the first to know! In the meantime, check out the 2021 Toyota Supra and Toyota Tacoma on our lot right now. We’re located at 3575 Vineland Rd just off I-4 near the Millenia Mall.

2021 Toyota Supra Concept, Specs, And Price
2021 Toyota Supra Concept, Specs, And Price– The leading no longer has the F1-aping nostrils and vented bonnet. However, it may seem like the vast carbon-fibers splitter with the base of the bumper might easily be incorporated. It’ll come with a more natural front end with additional standard searching front lights when, behind, there’ll be two loud exhaust piping and maybe a co2-fiber back end…

Ever go to an event where all the cars were the same color?
When cars and trucks are being produced, there is an early stage known as the “body in white.” The phrase applies to completed body shells as they head into the paint shop for color to be applied.
Perhaps taking the concept of “body in white” a giant step further,
Guglielmo Miani, who heads Italian fashion brand Larusmiani, thought it would be great fun to stage a road rally, but only for cars wearing white paint, and thus the inaugural Fuori Concorso was held in the California desert early in 2020, with a second was later in the year on the Italian island of Sardinia.
It’s not unusual for red cars to dominate at Ferrari events, or black cars at a Model T club gathering, but what would you think about staging a car show or driving event exclusively for cars of a certain color?
Or here’s an alternative: A car show where cars are parked neither at random nor by marque or model or model year, but by color?
British Motor Show launches robot competition
These robots are made from car parts
Did you miss World Recycling Day? It was held recently and the British Motor Show used the occasion to launch a Car Robot Competition as part of its “Crazee Creations” category.
So how does it work?
“The Car Robot Competition will see showgoers able to create their own battle-style robots using old car parts, ahead of the show, to fight head-to-head in an arena, which will form a central part of the Show’s Crazee Car Corner, where you will find the weird and the wonderful, from monster trucks to modified cars,” motor show organizers announced.
“Participants are invited to design their very own robot, static or mobile, using recycled car parts. The robots will then be judged for style and creativity before a winner is announced… Teams are invited from schools, colleges, companies, or just groups of friends and individuals.”
The show’s Crazee Car Corner will feature a display of “modified cars, mental motorbikes, oddball caravans, upcycled automotive art and extreme machines. If you like the unusual, you’ll love the Crazee area.”
“The British Motor Show is about cars of all ages, shapes and sizes – it’s a celebration of cars in all their forms and the Crazee Corner is where those are taken to the extreme” said Andy Entwistle, the motor show’s chief executive. “That makes it the perfect place for visitors to create their own car robot creations and let their automotive imaginations run wild – and there’ll be some cool prizes on offer, too.”
The show is scheduled for August 19-22. For more information, visit the show website.
Beaulieu’s ‘Simply’ shows launch May 23
The 2014 Volkswagen XL1 was a diesel-electric 2-seat hybrid vehicle. Only 250 of the $130,000 vehicles were scheduled to be produced
British home computer producer Clive Sinclair also produced 1-person electric-powered tricycles called the Sinclair C5 but sold only 5,000 of them
The British National Motor Museum at Beaulieu opens its series of “Simply” car shows on May 23 with Simply Electric, a showplace for electric and hybrid cars and motorcycles and bicycles.
Organizers are particularly interested in any vintage electric vehicles and in classics that have been converted to electric powertrains.
The event will be the first of 15 such one-marque or one-type of vehicle shows scheduled to be staged this year at the British museum.
For more information and a full schedule, visit the museum website.
2 Jet Z Hot Wheels car set for Carlisle Imports show
2Jet Z won the national Hot Wheels competition held at the 2018 SEMA Show in Las Vegas | Larry Edsall photo
2 Jet Z, a home-built creation that became a Hot Wheels toy, will be among the vehicles featured May 14-15 at the annual Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania.
Built by Luis Rodriguez and powered by 630-horsepower version of the 2JZ engine from the Toyota Supra, the car looks like a fighter-jet cockpit on wheels. In 2018, the car was selected as a grand national champion of such full-scale Hot Wheels cars and was shrunk to 1:64 scale to become a real Hot Wheels die-cast toy.
In addition to 2 Jet Z, Rodriguez will show his newest creation, Scorp*lon, a car inspired by one of Syd Mead’s vehicles in the movie Thon.
The Import & Performance showcase also will feature a Volvo celebration, 20 years of the Honda K-Series, 30 years of the Toyota 2JZ engine and 50 years of Opel Manta.

Toyota GR Yaris: The Ultimate Pocket Rocket
Rally racing is one of the most intense and dangerous forms of motorsport out there. Breakneck speeds on cliff-side dirt roads, a co-driver yelling directions over the deafening roar of a straight pipe exhaust and unpredictable road and weather conditions are all potential walls to remaining focused and retaining control of the vehicle. Everything needs to be executed immaculately. All in what is essentially a modified street car. It is a true test of pure driver skill and driver/co-driver teamwork.
Official rally events have a strict set of rules and regulations to ensure a fair competition. One of the universal requirements is that the competing vehicle is based on a production street car in the real world with at least 25,000 built units. Frequently rally-converted cars include the Ford Focus/Fiesta, Subaru WRX and Volkswagen Golf/Polo. This is where the 2021 GR Yaris comes into the picture. It is a high-performance hot hatch, designed to be the perfect platform for rally racing. The end goal for Toyota is to have a new vehicle to compete with in the World Rally Championship, by converting a GR Yaris into WRC (world rally car) specification, thus replacing the current Yaris WRC. To do so, Toyota first needs to build and sell the GR Yaris to the public as a street car.
Current Yaris WRC used for competing in the World Rally Championship
2021 GR Yaris
Performance
GR, which stands for Gazoo Racing, is Toyota’s in-house performance division. While most offerings from Gazoo Racing are essentially modified versions of currently existing models, enhanced with various performance parts to improve the driving experience, the GR Yaris is a different car from a standard Yaris at the core. Its chassis is a hybrid between that of a regular Yaris (as sold in Europe, Japan and Australia- not the re-badged Mazda 2 “Yaris” sold in the US) and of a Corolla/C-HR. This new platform features more weld points and structural adhesive, rendering the GR Yaris as more than your average performance-enhanced hatchback.
GR Yaris racing through sand and gravel
Aside from a new chassis, the GR Yaris is longer, wider, lower and more lightweight than a standard Yaris. And then there’s the engine. Under the hood is now officially the world’s most powerful three cylinder engine: a turbo 1.6 liter that makes up to 257 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Linked to the engine is a standard six-speed manual transmission, and an advanced 4WD system that can modulate torque delivery between the front and rear half of the car. It can be front-wheel-biased, 50/50 balanced, or rear-wheel-biased. All depends on the type of thrill you are seeking in the moment. An optional Circuit Pack adds performance suspension, big brake rotors and calipers, lightweight wheels and high-grip tires to compliment the power and structural rigidity.
Test Drive Impressions
Test drivers at Top Gear took the GR Yaris out for a spin, and had nothing but praise for its driving dynamics: “It’s a short, broad, stiff car. The heavily strengthened bodyshell means zero creaks and rattles and gives the suspension a rigid central core to work from. The GR Yaris doesn’t feel anything like a standard Yaris when you get in. It feels robust... small and light. With punchy dynamics and a gutsy motor, it’s a deeply compelling machine... an addictive experience. The best Toyota we’ve ever driven.”
Motor Trend also had the chance to experience the GR Yaris, and the drivers there were left with a positive impression as well: “The GR Yaris feels like a car developed by race engineers. The brakes are superb, the steering is accurate and well weighted. But what’s most impressive is how smoothly the GR Yaris gets into corners… and how concisely it tracks through them. You can go to power much earlier than in any of its front- or even all-wheel-drive rivals and let the differentials do their thing. Just steer where you want to go, and the GR Yaris will go there. There isn't a hot hatch on the planet that gets out of corners as quickly and confidently as this Toyota.”
Design
The exterior design looks very aggressive. Inward slanted headlights and a big rectangular grille make for an angry face that would certainly catch attention on the road. The fenders are nicely pronounced, with the two door configuration helping make way for beautifully wide rear fenders, effectively giving it a widebody look. The hood has a bulge in the middle, further accentuating it as a performance car. Overall, the GR Yaris looks like a proper performance hatchback, shamelessly boasting its motorsport roots.

The interior is simple, to-the-point, and driver-focused. A well-bolstered leather steering wheel, round leather gear-shift knob, physical e-brake, aluminum pedals, suede bucket seats and a simple, distraction-free dashboard all make for an interior that looks ready to provide for the hooning needs of a car enthusiast.

Conclusion
From the experiences of the test drivers at Top Gear and Motor Trend, one thing is clear: The GR Yaris is a genuine thrill machine. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 143 mph, which are decent performance numbers, but the numbers don’t matter so much with a car like this. What matters most is the feeling of the driving experience. With a small, compact performance hatchback, you usually get a well-controlled, agile and responsive ride that feels faster than it actually is. The GR Yaris, with it being a proper hot hatch, is built to induce a total adrenaline rush, and according to the drivers at Motor Trend, it “feels quicker” than its actual acceleration and top speed. They explain this as “a function of size… you simply don't expect a car smaller than a Corolla to deliver the neck-snapping launch and determined acceleration of the GR Yaris.”
Unfortunately, the GR Yaris will not be sold in the US, but the 86 and Supra are both available, and are heart-pounding enthusiast’s cars as well. When converted from British Pounds, the starting price is around $40,000 and the Circuit Pack model is around $45,000.
With its rally roots, the GR Yaris has a robust structure that is capable of traversing at speed both on and off-road. The world is for the taking in Toyota’s new hot hatch.

2020 Morgan Plus Six First Look: Wooden Ya Know
On the occasion of its 110th anniversary, the tiny manufacturer of timeless exposed-fendered, ash-framed sports cars and three-wheelers from Malvern Link, England, had big news to share in Geneva. Timed to coincide with the end (last year) of its naturally aspirated BMW V-8 engine supply, the company has tooled up a completely new chassis built around its replacement engine—the venerable BMW B58 TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine. The Plus Eight is dead, long live the Morgan Plus Six!
Yes, the same engine that powers the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra two-seaters will also motivate this one, producing 335 hp and 369 lb-ft and mated to the familiar eight-speed automatic found in the BMW applications. It is both the first inline six-cylinder and the first turbo employed in a Morgan, and it’s said to propel the roughly 2,500-pound roadster to 62 mph in just 4.2 seconds en route to a top speed of 165 mph. That’s a 0.3-second, 10-mph improvement over the 367-hp/370-lb-ft Plus Eight’s quoted performance. Better still, the official CO2 rating improves by an impressive 40 percent, eliminating onerous taxation in some markets that rendered the Plus Eight all but unsalable.
!function(e,n,t){var o,c=e.getElementsByTagName(n)[0];e.getElementById(t)||(o=e.createElement(n),o.id=t,o.src="//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.2",c.parentNode.insertBefore(o,c))}(document,"script","facebook-jssdk");
As for the chassis, the good thing about waiting 19 years between redesigns is that engineering technology and best practices march so much further on that you can make impressive pronouncements like this one: “Torsional rigidity has been increased by 100 percent over the previous-generation chassis [with] no extra weight penalty.” Wow, what a noodle the old one musta been!
Dubbed the CX-generation (Roman numerals for 110, get it?), this bonded aluminum chassis, developed in house, features a 20mm wheelbase stretch that, along with a new, thinner seat design and other savvy packaging results in 200mm more legroom and 31 percent more stowage space. I didn’t immediately convert those figures (0.8 and 7.9 inches) as a segue to this other notable press-release quote from John Beech, the chief engineer: “The Plus Six is the first metric Morgan, which may sound strange, but this is the first time we’ve captured the whole vehicle architecture, chassis, [body-in-white structure], suspension, electronics, and interior trim.” More wow.
Less than 1 percent of the bill of materials is shared with other Morgan models, though the cars are crafted in very much the same way. Hand-formed aluminum body panels are affixed to English ash framing (which is now thicker for greater strength), and the suspension is via coil-over shocks and control arms all around, augmented by toe-control links in the rear. The geometry and tuning of the suspension and bushings take full advantage of the vastly more rigid CX platform.
Other bold upgrades in technology include the first fitment of automatic headlights and the first puddle lamps offered on a Morgan. A small LCD information screen is integrated into the instrument cluster, but care has been taken not to present distracting information on it. The doors provide added side-impact protection and feature speakers secreted behind the leather covering. Before you know it, Morgans will offer voice commands and radar cruise control …
Inspired by 1960’s ‘road racers’, a lightweight composite hard top transforms the Plus Six. Discover more at https://t.co/m4I0GwpgbP #Morgan #GIMS2019 pic.twitter.com/W6dM2bX8Sv
— Morgan Motor Company (@morganmotor) March 7, 2019
Four Plus Six variants are available at launch, known as the Morgan Plus Six, Plus Six Touring, and two Plus Six First Editions, in Moonstone or Emerald livery. The initial production of First Edition models will sell for $117,848 with later base models opening at $102,135 (prices are in England, and include value-added tax). Morgan is quite keen to sell its flagship product in the U.S., and the CX architecture is completely package-protected to meet our regulations. Final approval of the United States Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015 would certainly speed things up, but Congress gonna congress, so don’t hold your breath. Marketing chief Toby Blythe says he expects to be in our market within two years. For now, Morgan is importing 3 Wheelers, and you can get the “narrow body” Plus Four model; it just has to be imported as a “rolling coach” sans engine, and the dealer completes assembly in the U.S. Not sure where your nearest dealer is? Contact one of the largest, which is within a mile of MotorTrend’s Detroit office: Auto Europe.
Oh, and the other big news: Morgan just got a big cash infusion from a new majority stakeholder, Investindustrial, a European firm that has also invested in Aston Martin. This is either sad news of yet another British automaker succumbing to European ownership, or it’s just the lifeline that was needed to keep the lights on at one of England’s oldest automakers. We think the world is more interesting with Morgan in it.

2019 New and Future Cars: BMW
Could this be the electric replacement for the 3 Series? BMW’s i4 will be a version of the i Vision Dynamics concept shown at the 2017 Frankfurt auto show. Although the production model hasn’t broken cover, we expect it to closely follow the concept’s 4 Series Gran Coupe lines, perhaps with a modern take on BMW’s trademark kidney grille. A source inside BMW indicates three powertrains in a good-better-best approach, possibly labeled Standard, Sport, and Supersport.
We expect the Standard powertrain to employ a 134-hp motor for the front wheels and a 214-hp motor for the rear, while the Supersport will feature one motor for each of the rear wheels. Range is rumored to be well in excess of 300 miles, but that remains to be seen. If the future does turn out to be electric, this 3 Series-sized EV could become BMW’s volume seller.
We’ve waited long enough for the arrival of a new 8 Series, and we liked what we saw and what we felt during our recent drive of an M850i prototype.
Although it won’t be a volume car, BMW has big plans for the return of the 8 Series, with the first version set to make its debut later this year. BMW will lead with the big guns, launching the M850i with a 523-hp version of its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8. A less powerful 840i might follow, along with an M8 variant at some point. The new 8 will premiere as a two-door coupe; convertible and four-door Gran Coupe versions come later. We recently drove an M850i prototype and came away impressed—not just by the driving dynamics, which are notably better than the latest crop of BMWs, but also by the way the car’s electronic systems mimic the mechanical feel of the original E31 8 Series. Pricing should start at around $100,000 and go up, up, up from there.
Refilling a niche is the next-generation Z4, which makes its debut early next year as a softtop roadster. Although it’s being developed in conjunction with Toyota, which will offer a hardtop coupe as the new Supra, the Z4 bears the stamp of its Bavarian origin, and our drive of a prototype M40i showed more sporting character than the previous-gen boulevard cruiser. The top-spec M40i will get a 382-hp straight-six, and we expect lower trims to get BMW’s venerable 2.0-liter turbo-four. Pricing will start around $50,000, rising into the high 60s for the M40i.
Speaking of convertibles and niches, BMW has done a little roof hacking to give us the i8 Roadster. The powertrain is largely unchanged from the i8 Coupe, but the flying-buttress styling gives it a unique look. The convertible has a cloth roof with a vestigial rear window that can be lowered independently of the top. The whole mechanism adds a mere 132 pounds to the i8 Coupe’s curb weight.
On sale: i4: 2021 8 Series: Late 2018 Z4: Spring 2019 i8 Roadster: Late 2018
Base price: i4: $75,000 (est) 8 Series: $100,000 (est) Z4: $50,000 (est) i8 Roadster: $164,295
