They kept the journal bearing CHRA from the IS38 turbocharger and increased the thrust bearings and thrust collars by 2 mm, to match the larger wheels and the performance-oriented nature of this upgrade.
They also increased the turbo’s oil passages by 0.72mm and put the turbo through extensive in-house tests to make sure that it delivers the highest performance at different altitudes and climates. Their main goals were to manufacture a turbocharger with fast spool times, massive torque gains, and reliable solid mid-range performance, so its safe to say that the CTS Turbo JB-600 Journal Bearing Hybrid Turbocharger MQB Platform 2015-2020 delivers that and more.
Designed for street use, this turbocharger delivers approximately 600 crank hp, around 520-530whp on E85 and 430-460whp on pump 93 octane**. Always follow the proper procedure for checking/adjusting the wastegate actuator when installing the turbo! Recommended wastegate actuator voltage: 3.4V-3.6V
We recommend keeping the boost within 25-28psi, less if you’re limited by fueling or a stock engine. Do not exceed the recommended boost range, as it will reduce efficiency.
Installation must be performed by a qualified technician. Always pre-fill the turbocharger, replace engine oil and filter, and follow proper break-in procedures.

Volks GTI 2020 et nouvelles intéressantes

Je n’ai jamais pensé qu’un jour, je devrais écrire ce qui suit. Selon toute vraisemblance, il n’y aurait plus de Volkswagen Golf sur le marché canadien avant un petit bout de temps. En fait, selon Thomas Tetzlaff de chez Volkswagen Canada, nous devrions avoir droit à la nouvelle version de la Golf GTI et de la R dès 2022 mais sa réponse reste énigmatique quant au reste de la gamme.
Un instant! La Golf qui ne serait plus offerte aux nord-américain ? Déjà que nous n’avons plus la version R et AllTrack (nommée Voiture de l’année il n’y a pas si longtemps par l’AJAC) et que la Sportwagen serait sur le point de nous quitter (si ce n’est déjà fait) suivant la destinée de la Beetle…
Bon. Semble-t-il que, pour le moment, il y a au moins la GTI qui est toujours au catalogue Volkswagen de 2020 et 2021. Heureusement! La GTI fait partie des véhicules à caractère vraiment sportif qui restent (en si petit nombre) sur notre marché (ironiquement, il n’y aura plus de Honda Civic coupé à deux portes au Canada non plus). Je me souviens des premières GTI du milieu des années soixante-dix qui faisaient le sujet de conversation préféré des amateurs de «petites autos» de l’époque, les «pocket rocket» comme on les appelait. La GTI était une vraie vedette et elle a engendré toute une génération de petites autos de performance qui pouvaient faire un pied-de-nez aux trop lourdes (et peu impressionnantes) Américaines de l’époque.
Les temps ont changé et, avec la dite «évolution», les soi-disant «petites autos» ont pris du coffre et du galon et sont devenues des autos plus imposantes qui, malgré leur économie de carburant toujours aussi convaincante, sont devenues presque des «mini-luxueuses». Toutefois, de nos jours, les automobilistes semblent leur préférer les petits VUS encore plus imposants et surtout disponibles avec la traction intégrale. De plus, il faut dire que la vitesse et les prouesses sur les routes de la Belle Province attirent désormais des réprimandes tellement élevées que plus personne ou presque n’ose chercher des émotions sur la route. Seuls quelques irréductibles tenteront leur chance.

Côté commercial, les VUS deviennent plus abordables et surtout plus «profitables» pour les concessionnaires qui les livrent comme de petits pains chauds contrairement aux petites autos, coupés ou berlines. D’autre part, les Golf ont-elles vraiment toujours de la concurrence? Parties sont les Fiesta, les Focus, les Fiat 500, les Cruze, les coupés Civic et plus encore… Les constructeurs ont compris l’importance des petits VUS en Amérique et ils ont, soit éliminé, soit renvoyé la construction des petites autos en Europe (où elles sont aussi de plus en plus la victime du succès des petits VUS!) et ailleurs dans des pays où elles ont encore une certaine cote.

La GTI sera toujours avec nous en 2021. Ce que je vous propose dans le blogue de cette semaine, c’est un «petit coucou», comme on le dit en langage populaire, de la GTI actuelle, surtout si elle vous intéresse dans cet intéressant format.

Le véhicule qui me fut confié était une GTI à quatre portes avec boîte automatique à sept rapports (en fait une boîte à double embrayage) mue par le vénérable moteur Volkswagen à quatre cylindres de 2,0 litres qui développe 228 chevaux et 258 li-pi de couple. Pourquoi automatique? Tout simplement parce qu’il semble que ce soit le choix de prédilection des acheteurs de la marque. Évidemment, contrairement à la R à traction intégrale, la GTI est à traction avant. C’était donc une version Autobahn vu qu’elle m’avait été livrée avec des roues de 18 pouces (et des pneus Continental 225/40 R-18).
Comme à l’habitude, je fus impressionné par la présentation intérieure de Volkswagen, cette GTI présentant un tableau de bord élégant et pratique avec une instrumentation facile à consulter. La sellerie de cuir et tissu était non seulement plaisante à l’œil mais aussi confortable alors que les sièges d’avant se caractérisaient par un support latéral supérieur à bien d’autres véhicules. Par contre, alors que le coffre suffirait à bien des utilisateurs urbains, plusieurs autres automobilistes préféreraient un coffre plus grand et plus utile comme celui de la Jetta GLI ! On comprendra alors pourquoi tant de consommateurs aiment mieux la Jetta que la Golf! Deux voitures tellement semblables sauf que la première a un coffre qui non seulement loge plus mais aussi garde les objets à l’abri des yeux plus «curieux»!

Volkswagen nous promet la huitième génération de la GTI pour le quatrième trimestre de 2021 (donc pour l’année modèle 2022). Au lieu des 228 chevaux et 258 li-pi de couple du quatre cylindres turbocompressé actuel, la huitième génération de  GTI devrait profiter de 241 chevaux et de 273 li.-pi. Déjà que la GTI actuelle est capable d’accélérations et de reprises exceptionnelles (même en version automatique surtout si l’on sait bien manipuler le levier ou, bien entendu, les palettes au volant), on se doute que la nouvelle génération à venir sera encore plus impressionnante. Et Volkswagen devrait nous ramener la principale caractéristique qui fait que la GTI soit aussi populaire, une tenue de route supérieure à ce que presque tout qui se fait dans ce créneau (ce qui a inspiré les autres constructeurs à nous offrir des Honda Civic Si, des Subaru Impreza WRX et autres) et un plaisir de conduite indéniable. La suspension de la GTI peut paraître un peu sèche par moments (surtout au Québec où les routes sont «si belles») mais le comportement routier compense énormément pour ce petit défaut. En ce qui concerne la qualité de la construction, il faut vraiment essayer cette petite Allemande pour s’en assurer.

La Volkswagen GTI arrivait en 2020 (les prix de 2021 n’ont pas encore été publiés au moment d’écrire ces lignes) avec un prix de base de 30 845 $ mais mon véhicule d’essai affichait un prix de 38 145 $ plus les 1750 $ d’aide à la conduite (quoi? aide à la conduite avec une GTI ? Il s’agit surtout d’avertisseurs de sécurité pour les obstacles), les 1685 $ pour le transport et la préparation et les toujours aussi ridicules 100$ de taxe d’accise pour la climatisation.  Ce qui est intéressant, c’est que VW inclut une garantie de 4 ans ou 80 000 km pour le véhicule mais de 5 ans ou 100 000 km pour les éléments mécaniques.
En ce qui a trait à la consommation, j’ai obtenu une moyenne de 10,2 l./100 km en conduite uniquement urbaine…et sportive par bout, ce qui n’est pas loin des 9,8 indiqués par le constructeur.  Ne pas recommander cette petite auto sportive serait une erreur. En plus d’être agréable à conduire, elle nous arrive avec une année de garantie de plus que les véhicules de la concurrence. Puis, elle est vraiment agréable à regarder !
Les surprises de la semaine
L’industrie automobile n’arrête pas de nous causer des surprises depuis le retour de ses travailleurs en usine après la pandémie. Après le dévoilement de la surprenante Bronco de Ford, voici celui du prototype du Grand Wagoneer de Jeep, un VUS de grand format (à sept passagers) qui devrait être produit au cours des prochains moins sous une forme presque identique aux images que le constructeur nous a dévoilées cette semaine. On ne connaît pas la mécanique qui se cache sous cette superbe automobile mais on se doute qu’il y aura des V8 HEMI en quelque part dans le catalogue, probablement avec des versions hybrides ou enfichables! Évidemment, Jeep compte concurrencer les Lincoln Navigator et Cadillac Escalade de ce monde avec ce Grand Wagoneer.

Autre nouvelle de FCA (ou Chrysler, si vous préférez), sa division Dodge débutera sous peu (début 2021) la production d’une quantité limitée de Challenger Mopar Drag Pak destinée qu’à la compétition automobile (accélération ou «drag» si vous préférez) mue par une HEMI suralimenté (compresseur mécanique) de 354 pouces spécialement préparé pour la course. Il y aura une cinquantaine d’unités destinées pour le Canada au prix de…209 665 $! Si vous êtes intéressés, parlez-en à votre concessionnaire Dodge!

GM et Honda ensemble?
Ce ne sera pas la première fois que Honda et GM s’uniront pour produire d’intéressants véhicules. On n’a qu’à se souvenir des VUS Saturn Red Line V6 à moteur Honda et autres produits semblables du passé.
Mais cette fois, ce sera plus sérieux car les deux constructeurs uniront leur destinée en vue de produire des véhicules électriques conjoints. Surpris? Pas vraiment. Souvenez-vous qu’il n’y a pas si longtemps que Ford et Volkswagen ont fait une annonce semblable…
La Morgan de mon ami Gilles  
Comme me le disait mon frère : «T’en as donc bien des amis!». C’est vrai! Quand tu es un mordu de l’automobile, surtout des plus anciens modèles, tu ne peux que te faire des amis qui partagent avec toi cette passion! Gilles Boucher, de Laval, en est un. En plus de ses autos Toyota «ordinaires» de tous les jours, il possède également quelques bijoux du passé incluant une MGB et surtout cette superbe Morgan anglaise de 1960, une auto qu’il a restaurée avec minutie pendant plus de cinq ans.
Ce «sports car» typique des British est mû par un moteur à quatre cylindres de Triumph TR3 (vous ne connaissez pas? Consultez l’Internet…). Gilles l’a découvert en état piteux sous une galerie de chalet. La carrosserie en aluminium a été débosselée alors que sa finition et sa peinture ont été confiées à l’artisan Jacques Briand de Laval. Il faut spécifier que la structure de cette carrosserie est faite de bois ce que Gilles, aidé de son frère Marcel et de quelques amis dont Michel Hamel, lui-même propriétaire de deux Morgan (dont une à moteur V8 Buick-Rover), a dû réviser.
C’est avec une pointe de fierté qu’il est venu me la montrer en compagnie de sa compagne l’ayant tout récemment terminée et fait enregistrer. Combien vaut-elle? Aussi bien ne pas en parler surtout que les Morgan ne sont plus commercialisées au Canada depuis 1994 (à cause de lois trop sévères qui exigent des «crash tests» d’un petit constructeur ce qui coûterait beaucoup trop cher). D’ailleurs, la compagnie vient d’être vendue à un entrepreneur italien ce qui enlève une des dernières marques vraiment «British» aux Anglais. Il ne leur reste plus que McLaren…

Volkswagen’s SUV lineup receives some significant changes for the 2020 model year, particularly the Tiguan. All 2020 Tiguans now come with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring as standard. The new SE R-Line Black trim gets black 20-inch alloy wheels, black R-Line badges, foglights, a panoramic sunroof, parking sensors, and a black headliner. SEL models now come standard with a heated steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rain-sensing wipers.
The three-row Atlas gets minor updates for 2020, with the SE with Technology R-Line trim adding parking sensors and a power liftgate. Atlas SE with Technology and higher trims now come with 20-inch alloy wheels while the range-topping SEL Premium gets 21-inch wheels as standard.
The 2020 Volkswagen Golf may be the last of the seventh generation until its replacement arrives on an upgraded version of the MQB architecture. For 2020, Volkswagen has shrunk the Golf’s options down significantly. Consumers wanting a standard Golf hatchback only have a single trim option: the Value Edition. Adaptive dampers and wireless charging now come standard on the Jetta GLI Autobahn.
Both the 2020 Volkswagen Arteon and Passat are all-new. The 2020 Passat loses the V-6 option and will launch solely with an upgraded 2.0-liter turbo-four and an updated multimedia system.

Say it ain’t so. The base Volkswagen Golf is reportedly exiting the U.S. market after the current generation calls it quits next year. According to a report by Motor 1, the standard version of the upcoming eighth-generation Golf—as well as the SportWagen variant—will not be available here. However, there is some good news, as the GTI and the Golf R will still need their passports when the new models finally roll out. Speaking to Motor Authority, VW spokesman Mark Gillies added, “The Golf R and GTI are confirmed, but other Golf models are under consideration for the North American region.”

The Mk 8  Golf was originally scheduled to make its debut in September at the Frankfurt motor show, but VW confirmed to us in March that it will be revealed later at the end of the year. The E-Golf also isn’t likely to return in any market, as VW’s ID models will pick up where that electric hatch left off. The first U.S.-market EV from VW will arrive in the U.S. in 2020.
