Batteriet kan gi inntil 24 Nm med ekstra dreiemoment til motoren. Dette reduserer bensinmotorens behov for å jobbe og reduserer drivstofforbruket – og dermed også utslippet. Målt etter den nye og langt strengere WLTP-målemetoden er forbruket på 0,53 l/mil og CO2-utslippet på 117 g/km. Dreiemomentet fra batteriet kan også brukes til å øke det totale dreiemomentet fra både motor og batteri med opptil 20 Nm. På lavere turtall bidrar systemet til at dreiemomentet økes med inntil 50%. Det gir en langt mer responsiv og underholdende kjøreopplevelse.

BISG fører også til at Auto Start-Stopp-teknologien kan brukes i langt flere situasjoner enn i biler uten EcoBoost hybridsystemet. Motoren kan skrus av også når bilen er i fart ved at du trykker inn klutsjpedalen. Systemet kan du selv velge når det skal slå inn, fra 15 km/t, 20 km/t eller 25 km/t.

Den prisbelønte 1-liters 3-sylindrede EcoBoost-bensinmotoren kutter også den ene sylinderen når det ikke er behov for full kapasitet fra motoren. Systemet kobler sylinderen ut og inn i løpet av 14 millisekunder og det merkes verken på ytelse eller kjørekomforten.

Nytt instrumentpanel og nytt system for lokale fareadvarsler

Et nytt 12,3 tommers 24 bit «true color» LCD-instrumentpanel, kommer også nå på nye Focus EcoBoost hybrid. Det er utviklet for å gi detaljert og høyoppløselig informasjon til sjåføren ved bruk av hele fargespekteret, uten at det blir slitsomt for øynene å bruke det. Det gir sjåføren mulighet til selv å prioritere hva de ønsker å se av informasjon.

Nye Focus EcoBoost hybrid kommer også med Fords modemteknologi FordPass Connect som standard og – senere i år – et helt nytt system for fareadvarsler som kan gi informasjon om viktige situasjoner før de blir synlige for sjåføren eller bilens sensorer. Systemet mottar informasjon direkte via bilens modem fra andre kjøretøy koblet opp mot den samme «skyen». Den kan varsle om alt fra mennesker eller dyr i veibanen til ulykker eller spesielt vanskelige kjøreforhold.

Mer standardutstyr og mange avanserte førerassistanseteknologier

Focus ST-Line og Focus Active fås nå også med mer standardutstyr enn tidligere. De kommer både med 2-soners klimaanlegg, elektronisk automatisk temperaturkontroll, automatisk dimming i bakspeilet, regnsensor for vindusviskere og Fords nøkkelløse system. Utvendig kommer også ST-Line med en større standard takspoiler.

Ford Focus i oppdatert versjon kommer med en rekke førerassistanseteknologier som adaptiv cruisekontroll med køassistent og skiltgjenkjenning for en mest mulig komfortabel og trygg kjøretur. Med parkeringsassistenten, som styrer både gass, brems og automatgir, går også parkeringen unna med ett trykk på en knapp. Med unnamanøverassistent får du hjelp med unnamanøvrering hvis et kjøretøy beveger seg svært sakte eller står stille foran deg. Et aktivt bremsesystem bidrar også til at bilen automatisk bremser etter et eventuelt sammenstøt for å redusere muligheten for påfølgende skader.

TPMS is expected to be the largest segment in the ADAS Market

A tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) uses sensors to detect tire pressure levels and alert the driver when the tire pressure is low. Two TPMS implementations are available: direct and indirect. Indirect TPMS uses ABS sensors to detect low tire pressure. If the pressure in a tire is dangerously low, its wheel speed will be different than the others. The ECU analyzes the rotation information and informs the driver about the low tire pressure. Direct TPMS uses different pressure monitoring sensors for individual tires. These sensors transmit the data to the ECU for analysis, and every sensor has a unique serial number. Post analysis, the system can easily identify the tire with low pressure using the serial number and display a visual warning on the dashboard.

The inclusion of TPMS is standard in all leading automobile markets such as the US, European countries, and some Asia Pacific countries. While TPMS was earlier mandated only for passenger cars in Europe, it is now to be mandatorily installed in vans, trucks, and buses by 2022. China announced that all new vehicles from 2019 would have standard TPMS, while Japan, Russia, South Korea, and Turkey have already mandated TPMS as a standard in new vehicles. Ford to Abandon Sedan Production in Favor of Trucks and SUVs

Focus, Fiesta, and Fusion: by the year 2020, these and all current Ford sedans will no longer be on the market. The decision to stop production of sedans is due to declining sales, as seen in Ford’s latest earnings report.

The announcement follows low earnings for Ford’s sedans in comparison to Ford’s more successful line of trucks and SUVs. Although sedans other than Ford’s models have also taken a hit in the sales department, comparable vehicles like Toyota Camry and Honda Civic hold strong with steadily increasing sales. Essentially, foreign auto makers are dominating the sedan market over U.S. models.

Because of Ford’s century-old standing as the world’s first automobile maker, it’s understandable that a drastic change like this would come about. As millennials shift gears in the economy, the surviving auto-maker is attempting to move with the times and focus on its better-selling and more profitable line of trucks and SUVs.

U.S. sales for trucks and SUVs have increased in recent years, largely attributed to the fact that gas prices are fairly low when compared to its price point 10 years ago. The average price of gas in the summer of 2008 was $4.10. As summer 2018 approaches, the national average is a significant 25% less per gallon. This (coupled with the fact that gas prices haven’t increased as high as they were in 2008) is leading many Americans to purchase larger SUVs and trucks, without considering economic factors such as gas costs.

So what else is new with the announcement of sedans being eliminated from Ford’s vehicle market? Ford will continue making new-year models of its sporty and classic Ford Mustang. Alongside the only car to be kept in the vehicle sweep will be the added Focus Active, a new crossover vehicle expecting release in 2019. Ford is also working on adding new SUV and truck models with hybrid and electric features that will become available around the time same time its sedans will be phased out.

By removing most of its cars, Ford will essentially be removing its declining numbers and figures, something to be desired after a less-than-favorable earnings report. Ford hopes newer reports sans sedans will make for a “winning portfolio,” especially as it relates to its North American market.
