Last week I was in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention, which happens to be within an hour of Galloping Ghost – the world's largest arcade and one of those two locations with a working cabinet. Thanks to the practice I had on the emulator over the past few weeks, I was able to set a certified world record in the game on my second attempt. And on my fourth attempt, I set it again.I know that to most, having the highest score on a game that barely exists anymore and for which just 7 people registered certified attempts since 2020 doesn’t seem like much of a “world record” to brag about. And given the previous recordholder seems to be a local with over a hundred high scores to his name, I’m sure I’ll lose even this modest title eventually. But for at least this brief moment in time, I am officially recognized as the best player on the planet at THE arcade game from my childhood. I know some folks here will understand how meaningful an accomplishment like that feels. And since Reddit made it all possible, I just wanted to express my appreciation.
