Walk into a Hyundai showroom and it’s not a question of whether the Korean automaker has the right crossover SUV, it’s a matter of which size crossover is for you. Do you need small or smaller?
If the mid-size Hyundai Santa Fe is too large and the subcompact Venue is too small, then the 2020 Hyundai Tucson or 2020 Hyundai Kona should fit your needs. But which one is best?
The 2020 Tucson is in its final year before a complete overhaul, but its refined exterior and quiet interior warranted a TCC Rating of 6.5 out of 10. The smaller 2020 Hyundai Kona has great standard features and versatility that earns a TCC Rating of 6.0 out of 10.
The difference between the two might come down to how much the rear seat will be used.
Both the Kona and the Tucson seat five passengers with comfortable seats and plenty of space up front. The second row and cargo area are where things part ways.
The rear seats of the Kona have limited knee- and leg room, though head room is average thanks to its bubble roof design. Those seated in the back of the Tucson will thank you with nearly four inches more legroom than the backseat of the Kona, but shoulder space is a narrow proposition. We recommend reclining the seat back for a more comfortable experience.
When it comes to hauling, the Tucson was made with more cargo space in mind. The 30.1 cubic feet of space behind the second row doubles to 61.9 cubic feet of space with the rear seat folded flat. The shorter, smaller Kona has 19.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 45.8 cubic feet behind with the rear seats folded. Despite less cargo space, the Kona gets a nod and a wink for a low load floor and a wide, squarish rear opening that makes loading cargo a breeze. Dogs like getting in and out as much as their humans.
Both the Kona and Tucson put a priority on safety with standard automatic emergency braking. The larger Tucson takes the standard active safety tech a step further with active lane control, which is extra on the Kona. Oddly, theKona offers a head-up display but the Tucson does not. The Tucson can be had with a surround-view camera system but the Kona does not. Fortunately, both models can be had with blind-spot monitors and adaptive cruise control.
The Kona’s look is newer and edgier than the Tucson. Despite the Tucson’s age––it will be redesigned for 2021––the mid-sizer has a refined and adult-like design that won’t offend, or embarrass, anyone. The conservative but handsome exterior complements the simple if not boring interior. If the Tucson is the adult then that makes the Kona the teenager going through some awkward years with mismatched details, two-tier headlights, fake vents, and complicated body lines tacked onto a lifted hatchback. Inside, the Kona is like the Tucson with a logical cabin layout and easy-to-use controls, but there are flourishes like orange or green accents on top-trim models akin to a mohawk on a teenager.
The 2020 Kona and 2020 Tucson are powered by a 2.0-liter inline 4 with a 6-speed automatic powering the front wheels. The Kona’s version makes 147 horsepower while the Tucson in SE or Value trim gets 161 hp. Most Tucsons get a more powerful 181-hp 2.4-liter inline-4, while Limited and Ultimate Konas comes with a 175-hp 1.6-liter turbo-4. The base engine is a better fit in both of these people movers as the 2.4-L doesn’t add much power while the Kona’s turbo-4 comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that gets confused and feels hesitant at city speeds. All-wheel drive is an option on both the Kona and Tucson for $1,400.
Konas cost just over $20,000 while the Tucson is $4,000 more. Both are similarly equipped with standard cloth upholstery, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, air conditioning, and power features. Our pick of the lineups would be the Kona SEL for just over $23,000 as it nets keyless entry with keyless ignition, blind-spot monitors, and rear cross-traffic warnings. For the Tucson, we’d recommend the Value trim for just over $26,000, which adds heated front seats, satellite and HD radio, blind-spot monitors, and keyless ignition along with 8-way power seats.
Both of these crossover SUVs pack a lot of value, but the Tucson offers more space for not much more money and the ability to comfortably haul a family of four and all their gear for a weekend at the lake cottage.

Hyundai Kona: all the data and photos of the urban SUV
Starting in September, the sale of Hyundai's urban SUV begins, the Hyundai Kona, with a new platform, a great electric future and an image that will not leave you indifferent.
Simultaneous launch in Seoul and Milan, photo shoot next to the Prado and Almudena Cathedral, name of the most touristic city on the Big Island of Hawaii ... who doubts that they want the Hyundai Kona to be a global SUV ?
Another small SUV to fight to conquer the city, this time from the hand of Hyundai, first cousin of the also debutant Kia Stonic . The Hyundai Kona arrives to fight directly with Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka X, Renault Captur, Nissan Juke and the rest of the unstoppable small SUVs or urban SUVs. vidalista
With its 4.16 meters only the Opel Mokka surpasses it (in length), but this list of sales in Spain means that size does not really matter. In fact, the big Opel already has a little brother ready, the Opel Crossland X and this week the Citroën C3 Aircross with the same platform as the Opel was unveiled, with a length similar to that of the new Hyundai Kona.
The prices of the Hyundai Kona will not be known until itscommercialization, which in Spain will be in September . Korea is the starting market, in July, to continue with Europe and America.
According to its managers, the Hyundai Kona, the younger brother of the Hyundai Tucson, Santa Fe and Grand Santa Fe, will stand out from the competition for its refined interior and its large space and comfort . The Kona also aims to set new references in connectivity and security measures . These include the frontal collision assistant based on camera data and the frontal radar, capable of automatically braking in the event of a collision risk. The front camera is based on three other systems, lane assistant , the one beam and detector alertness of the driver .
Through rear radars the Hyundai Kona will offer a warningBlind spot and in reverse maneuvers, it will alert you to the risk of collision with passing traffic. Inside stand out the screen, floating on the dashboard, which according to equipment and markets will be 5, 7 or 8 inches , plus the presence of a head-up display -prime in Hyundai- in which speed information will be projected, navigation, audio and lane departure warnings. It will have an infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple Carplay , with an optional DAB digital radio, rear view through a camera.
They aim for a clean style inside, but functional, and with enough space behind despite the descending line of the body. The rear seats have folding backrests (1 / 3-2 / 3) to form a flat platform if necessary. The boot has two load levels.
HYUNDAI KONA ENGINES
The mechanics for each market have not been specified, but the engines shown at the launch of the Hyundai Kona show a "big car" ambition. In Europe the basic gasoline version will be the 1.0 T-GDI that we know from other Hyundai models, such as the i30, a three-cylinder with turbo, direct injection, 120 horsepower and a maximum torque of 172 Nm between 1,500 rpm and 4,000 rpm. It will go with a six-speed manual gearbox and offer acceleration 0-100 km / h in 12 seconds. The maximum speed of the Hyundai Kona 1.0 T-GDI will be 181 km / h.
Above will be the also known 1.6 T-GDI of the Gamma family of engines, with 177 horsepower and 265 Nm of maximum torque, offered between 1,500 rpm and 4,500 rpm. This engine will be linked to the 7DCT seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and will allow 0-100 acceleration in 7.7 seconds, with a top speed of 210 km / h.
Without specifying more details on the power (in September the new Euro 6c standards come into force and the figures must still be in the confirmation phase), they have communicated that the Hyundai Kona will offer the well-known 1.6 CRDi Diesel , which in the Hyundai i30 will offers with 95 and 110 horses, and consumption (homologated) around 4 liters.
A 149 HP 2.0 Atkinson engine will also be offered in gasoline , whose operating cycle (neither Diesel nor Otto) boasts low consumption and low emissions. Coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, it promises to accelerate the Hyundai Kona from O to 100 km / h in 10 seconds and a top speed of 194 km / h. The maximum torque is not very high, typical of Atkinson engines, with a value of 179 Nm at 4,500 rpm.
Mechanically the Hyundai Kona will be available with 4x2 drive and will also offer 4x4 all-wheel drive . The rear suspensions change in each case (they rely on the usual McPherson front), with a torsional axle for the front-wheel drive versions and a more sophisticated multi-link for the all-wheel drive Hyundai Kona. They say that the new Kona platform is optimized to allow an SUV's own ground clearance, without specifying the data.
THE AESTHETICS OF THE HYUNDAI KONA
The safety of the Kona does not only refer to the multiple electronic accessories that it will offer, also in structural rigidity. For this they do not hesitate to boast that Hyundai is the only manufacturer capable of producing their own steel . Half of the Hyundai Kona's structure (51.8 percent) will be made of very high-strength steels , hot-stamped, to achieve rigidity and lightness.
The rigidity of the bodywork is essential in the face of shocks, also for the absence of noise and for the correct work of the suspensions. With this they trust to combine in the Kona good comfort of patching and great road behavior, also relying on a great wheelbase for a small car, 260 cm, just 5 centimeters less than the Hyundai i30 .
The key point of small SUVs is the style and the Hyundai Kona has a lot of that. Those responsible for the design of the Hyundai Kona are the Belgian Luc Donckerwolke (who you know well enough for being the father of a best seller like the Seat Ibiza that you have seen for nine years and who is now leaving us) and one of the current stars of the car design, the Korean SangYup Lee (if it doesn't sound right to you, the person in charge of the Camaro you saw in Transformers, among others).
Seen from behind, the Hyundai Kona has the air of a Hyundai i30 wagon that would have gone through a bodybuilding room, and the same muscle-on-muscle feel is seen on the wheel arches. Come on, you will like it . Better to see the photos of the Kona, than to explain the peculiar interpretation of the plastic protections on the wheel arches.
Ahead is more of the above, with an evolution of the Hyundai grill , which will take Hyundai away from those criticisms that it looked like an Audi (reproaches that they surely did not dislike). You will not be short of comparisons again, with the thin led daytime running lights on the top, next to the hood, separated from the main optics: yes, they are reminiscent of the latest Citroën designs. The Hyundia Kona offers two-tone paint, with a black roof, as is becoming the norm in the small SUV segment.
Black marks it all, contrasting each of the five double spoke spokes, the front grille, but also the engine air intake at the top of the bumper. If it aesthetically transmits robustness, it will better supply air to the engine compartment. To make matters worse, for the launch they have teamed up with Marvel to present a special edition Ironman , which seems to provide armor to the Hyundai Kona. On 19-inch wheels and 40 mm wider, it will be possible in the window of the Hyundai Motorstudio in Seoul, for a month.
Starting in 2018, an electric version of the Hyundai Kona will also be offered , whose autonomy will not be less than 390 km with a recharge. It is part of the intention to launch 31 electrified models in Hyundai (between hybrids, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell), before 2020. In the first half of 2018 Hyundai will launch a hydrogen fuel cell SUV on the occasion of the celebration of the winter olympics.

2020 Hyundai Santa Fe
2020 Hyundai Santa FE

The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe has made many significant improvements that cover almost every segment of the world. vehicle. Therefore, the fourth generation of Santa Fe is now on the new platform and, as a result, is now larger than its predecessor. With the growth of size, comes the larger interior space that offers more space and better comfort for all passengers. The exterior style becomes more daring and daring. In addition, it is now offered with the new diesel engine in the XL finish and is more fuel efficient.
However, in line with the brand new reports, the new edition of this model is also underneath development and could appear because of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. This version will probably be a report because the manufacturer has just given a full update. Instead, they are working on the newest SUV that will represent one of the largest SUVs in the lineup and will feature a three-row seat configuration.
2020 Hyundai Santa Fe Exterior and Interior

The grille has a more aggressive design and the headlights have also been revised.

Car Design Trend: Squinting “Eyes”
Every decade sees new car design trends that come to define that generation of vehicles. In the early 2010’s, over-sized grilles became highly popular as a showcase of brand identity. Lexus and Audi were some of the first pioneers of the now-expected gigantic maw of modern cars. Today, even regular commuter cars that once looked tame, such as the Toyota Avalon, now feature grilles that dominate the vast majority of the front fascia. Looking at various recently redesigned cars, it seems that a new design trend has begun that could potentially define the cars of the ‘20s: a front fascia that leaves the impression of squinting eyes. The front of an automobile generally follows the convention of two sets of lights: primary upper (typically the headlights) and secondary lower (typically the fog lights). This new design direction involves slim upper lights that create a face of intense glare, like a predator stalking its prey.
Cadillac Escalade
2021 Cadillac Escalade
2021 Escalade (left) and 2020 Escalade (right)
The Escalade is truly giant, measuring over seventeen and a half feet long and over six feet wide and tall. Considering the hulking proportions, a wide and presentable grille makes sense. So do large and pronounced headlights. The previous model featured both. The new 2021 Escalade retains a large grille but now has slim horizontal headlights, arguably too small for such a sizable vehicle. However, thanks to enlarged daytime running/turn signal lights that extend vertically underneath the headlights, the space left behind is appropriately filled-in. With these new lights, the face of the Escalade has changed. It now has a distinct “squint” that creates a more dramatic expression than before.
Chevy Bolt
2022 Chevy Bolt
2022 Bolt (left) and 2021 Bolt (right)
In comparing the new to the outgoing Chevy Bolt, the first immediate change is the “facial” expression, transitioning from a cheerful grin to a fierce glare, thanks to slender upper lights and a downturned grille. Interestingly, the upper lights are only daytime running lights and turn signals, with the larger light assembly below being the headlights themselves. We frequently associate the headlights as a car’s “eyes,” although in the case of the new Bolt, that role is fulfilled by decorative daytime lights.
Hyundai Kona & Santa Fe
2022 Hyundai Kona
2021 Hyundai Santa Fe
Hyundai has been designing cars with narrow lights for some years now. The Kona has featured this design approach since it first debuted in 2017, and the Santa Fe since its fourth generation launched in 2018. Both models have been pushed further into that direction with new facelifts. Now even slimmer and sharper, the updated upper lights create a focused gaze that is especially perceptible in the Santa Fe, with its two sharp daytime running bars. As with the Chevy Bolt, both Hyundais have their headlights below the daytime running lights.
Mitsubishi Outlander
2022 Mitsubishi Outlander
2022 Outlander (left) and 2020 Outlander (right)
The recently redesigned Mitsubishi Outlander now has a girthier front fascia that leaves a stronger initial impression than the outgoing model, appearing much more resilient and confident. This is thanks to sleek upper lights that produce an angry squint, large lower headlights, and a thick decorative chrome line, altogether generating a tougher look than before.
Nissan Qashqai
2022 Nissan Qashqai
2022 Qashqai (left) and 2020 Qashqai (right)
The Nissan Qashqai, known as Rogue Sport in the US, now features a fresh design for 2022. Looking at the front, the “V-Motion” grille has grown, the air vents on the sides are much sharper, and the lights have been put on a diet. Super slender boomerang lights create a sharp face with a determined expression that compliments the Qashqai’s newfound angularity.
Conclusion
The brain is quite efficient in differentiating one human face from another, but sometimes we see faces in objects or patterns that otherwise don’t have any. This phenomenon is known as Pareidolia, and is the explanation for why we tend to perceive faces in cars. While the overall shape and proportions of a car make up the majority of its design, the headlights and grille are perhaps the most important in their ability to set the overall tone and expression of the design. Looking at cars from this century, and a general evolution one can notice is the move from neutral to angry front fascia expressions. This can be attributed to over-sized grilles that are frequently downturned and inward-slanted headlights, together mimicking an angry human grin. And now, a new face of automotive design has arrived. One that is not only angry, but also stares intensely with squinting “eyes” that create an observant expression. This could become the defining characteristic of front fascia car design of the current decade. Only time will tell.

THE KIA SORENTO 2020: 10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
The incredible success of the big Telluride at Kia has pushed the smaller Sorento back into the shadows. Add to this mischievous fate the fact that Kia’s “old” utility vehicle, born in 2002, is in its third generation, itself already out of phase despite the usual annual alterations. In short, the Sorento is due to the image of its first cousin, the Hyundai Santa Fe, renewed last year. So here are 10 things you should know about a mid-size SUV that straddles the present and the future…
1 Partie remise
Kia had nevertheless planned to introduce the 4th generation Sorento in great style at the Geneva Motor Show after having given a preview of it on February 17th in South Korea. But you-know-what caused the cancellation of the event. The manufacturer partially made up for it by letting pictures of the new exterior and interior flow.
2 Oh the beautiful look!
The revamped Sorento, which according to our crystal ball will be on sale by the end of the year as the 2021 vintage, abandons the ovoid and, let’s be frank, rather anonymous hull in favour of a much more athletic build where the angles and reliefs give themselves over to the heart’s content.
3 Easy as pie
The current Sorento features a dashboard that is overflowing with user-friendliness. In fact, we’re immediately pleased with two features. First, the fact that a few good old-fashioned buttons are right where you’d expect them; two, the electronic UVO interface displayed on the 7-inch centre screen (and even 8-inch when you check off the navigation) is very pleasant to use, the speed with which a techno-analphabetic like me manages to connect his phone being the best proof.
4 Avant-garde design
In the future Sorento, while the modernisation of the interior is obvious, it is hoped that the ease of use has remained intact. The conventional transmission lever has been replaced by a rotary selector. The two generous side-by-side displays (12.3″ for the dials, 10.3″ for the infotainment) are sumptuous, while the air vents, in the centre and near the doors, feature a novel shape (a sort of vertical diamond) that projects the cabin’s look far into the 21st century.
5 A 4 or a 6?
So far in North America, the Sorento has had three gasoline engines. In 2018, Kia has abandoned the 2.0L Turbo, which in the end proved to be as gluttonous as the V6. The 3.3L is still in the catalogue, as is the 2.4L 4-cylinder.
If your little family already costs you enough as it is, select this less expensive powertrain. Its 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission, will be enough to transport your tribe members without worry. The only downside is its towing capacity of only 907 kg.
If that doesn’t seem like enough because your cousin, to whom you often give lifts, really likes Vachon’s little cakes, then you’d better turn to the V6’s 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque, which brings the vehicle’s towing capacity to 2,268 kg, exactly the same as GM’s rival trio, the Acadia, Traverse and Enclave.
As a bonus, your wallet won’t suffer so much during the inevitable stops at the gas pump since the fuel consumption ratings between the 4 and 6 only indicate a small difference of one litre: 11.3L per 100 km for the most fuel-hungry versus 10.2L for the most frugal. Thanks to the 8-speed automatic transmission that has been powering the V6 since 2019.
6 Promise, promise…
In Europe, the manufacturer has rather foamed the 2.4L and a 2.2L turbo-diesel. Since 2017, Kia Canada has been suggesting that we could also benefit from a diesel-powered vehicle, but we’re still waiting for it, and as long as the fumes from Volkswagen’s Dieselgate haven’t completely dissipated, we’ll wait for it…
7 Long live the electrons!
That said, there are better things on the horizon. For the fourth-generation model, North Americans would receive a hybrid engine where a 180-hp, 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder with 180 horsepower would be paired with a 60-stallion electric motor. The combined power of 227 horsepower would be available as a regular and rechargeable hybrid.
The jump to hybridity for the Sorento seems normal given that Kia is already electrifying the Niro and Soul. So what will happen to the 2.4L and 3.3L gasoline-powered models? Rumours suggest a 277-horsepower, 2.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged 2.5L as a replacement.
8 Well thought out
Instead of the usual five seats, you can get seven if you choose the V6. To access the back seats, the Sorento uses an ingenious system: press one of the buttons located near the headrests of the middle seat and the targeted section (60/40) instantly obeys, the backrest folds down and the seat moves forward. The result: a passage that makes it much easier to access both folding seats.
9 Various variants
The South Korean manufacturer has made a wise decision by ceasing to send us a low-end version equipped only with front-wheel drive. From now on, Dynamax all-wheel drive is standard on all versions. And don’t look any further for the SXL model that used to occupy the top of the pyramid. Since it was priced over $50,000, marketing gurus avoided cannibalism between the most expensive Sorento and the most affordable Telluride. In short, right now, you can choose from no less than seven versions of the Sorento with base prices ranging from $32,905 to $48,255.
10 Let’s talk about capacity
If you leave all the backrests of the vehicle at attention, there’s only 320 litres of cargo left in the rear. So, if the Sorento already holds seven healthy adults and you’re all off to the cottage together, you’ll have to choose between going without clothes or food.
But if you fold down all the seatbacks, you’ll be able to rob a flea market of its finest antiques thanks to the 2,082 litres of cargo space. Since the wheelbase of the new Sorento will be a bit longer (1.4″), it will be slightly more spacious.
In my own way, I tested the Sorento’s volume differently. I started by wanting to buy myself a paddle board. My shopping turned into an uncertain expedition when I discovered that Quebecers, failing to go on holiday in Europe this summer, were gargling like hungry ogres on all the summer toys. Finding a personal watercraft, a swimming pool or a paddle board in June had become mission impossible.
Finally, the god of the heat wave blessed me and I found one. Since it was exactly 10 feet 6 inches tall (it says so right on it), I got a little fright: how do I get it home?
But, ladies and gentlemen, my purchase went into the Sorento the whole way through as if the engineers had planned the vehicle’s size according to the board! Seeing how lucky I was, I naturally did what the TV recommends we do in such cases: I bought a 6/49 ticket.

All-new Hyundai Santa Fe revealed The 2020 Santa Fe uses a new platform and comes with a 7-seat layout It will also get a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the international markets The interiors have been thoroughly updated with a new design and more tech Hyundai has released the first details of its new Santa Fe SUV for international markets. The new-gen Santa Fe comes with bold styling, hybrid powertrain options and an all-new platform in a bid to enhance the model’s premium appeal. What’s new under the skin of the 2020 Santa Fe? The 7-seater uses Hyundai’s ‘third-generation’ architecture, which already underpins the Sonata sedan on sale in the US market. The brand claims the new platform will offer “improved performance, efficiency and safety”. Headline features include a new ventilation system that improves air movement through the engine bay, allowing heat to dissipate and improving the Santa Fe’s stability. Heavy components are also located lower in the chassis for a lower centre of gravity. The SUV’s dynamic performance is also claimed to have been improved by relocating the steering arms. Reinforced sound and vibration absorption material throughout the chassis should aid refinement. What’s new on the powertrain front? The 2020 Santa Fe will be available with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains for the first time. Although technical information is yet to be released, the SUV is likely to be offered with the same 265hp PHEV powertrain as its recently refreshed Kia Sorento sibling. A hybridised petrol motor and conventional diesel will also be on offer. What’s the 2020 Santa Fe look like? The new Santa Fe has been completely overhauled visually as well, bearing a bold new design. The front grille, which has been significantly enlarged to span the entire width of the car, features a new 3D mesh pattern and is flanked by a pair of distinctive T-shaped daytime running lights. The lower air intake sits within a new skid plate, while side vents are now vertically orientated. At the back, the Santa Fe has gained a new reflector bar that stretches between redesigned brake light clusters and a new lower bumper in the same style as the front end. https://www.instagram.com/p/CA95W97h1rh/?igshid=i1dmsm4d3dlp

La Cadillac CT5 V selon Car and Driver
(photo Car and Driver)
(Photo Tesla)
(Photo FCA)

The 2020 Hyundai Tucson does all the things a swell-selling crossover SUV should do. Its great value, strong safety record, and impressive standard features stand out for buyers.
Available from value-oriented to fully-loaded models—SE, SEL, Ultimate, and Limited–the 2020 Tucson features recently-updated styling that echoes the rest of the Hyundai lineup, and while the angular LED running lights and new grille do work on this crossover body. The interior material quality is good and standard features are impressive.
A 2.0-liter inline-4 is the base engine while a more powerful 2.4-liter version is available, and the Tucson can be had with all-wheel drive across the range, while front-wheel drive comes standard. The Tucson sports a comfortable ride quality that stands out among competitors.
Slightly smaller than its competition, the 2020 Tucson seats four adults comfortably, and features 30 cubic feet of storage space in the rear.
With the 2020 Tucson, Hyundai includes standard features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Tucson also offers a full suite of active safety tech right out of the box. With great crash test scores and a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS last year, the Tucson is a safe bet for a family SUV, available at Group 1 Hyundai.
2020 Hyundai Tucson Styling
The 2020 Hyundai Tucson is handsome by any account. The interior design wears updated styling to match the rest of the Hyundai lineup, the Santa Fe wears somewhat angular LED running lights and an upright grille. The overall design is generically handsome. Subtle plastic body cladding is adventure-aspiring, but it’s also not as elegant as the likes of the Mazda CX-5.
Inside, the cabin is simple, but we’ve got no qualms with the material quality or functionality. A standard touchscreen infotainment system is front and centre, flanked by useful buttons and knobs and featuring clear displays throughout. Finished in a sea of black and grey trim.
2020 Hyundai Tucson Performance
Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available on the Tucson, as is the case with almost all compact crossovers. A 2.0-liter inline-4 is standard, as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission, but with just 161 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, acceleration and fuel economy are both thoroughly average.
A 2.4-liter inline-4 is available on the top trim and includes 181 hp and 175 lb-ft.
The Tucson boasts impressive ride quality even in base trim, and this small SUV excels at long road trips over some rivals. A drive mode selector allows for sport mode that stiffens the steering and increases the timing of downshifts, which would be our choice for the way the Tucson should be set up as default.
2020 Hyundai Tucson Comfort & Quality
The 2020 Hyundai Tucson is smaller than rivals but includes decent passenger and cargo space regardless. With good material quality and a quiet cabin, we give it 7 out of 10 here.
The Tucson sits almost directly in between the smaller Kona and the larger Santa Fe. Six-way adjustable front seats are comfortable and supportive, while 8-way power adjustment for both front chairs is available.
In the rear, two adults will fit comfortably once they’ve reclined the back cushion slightly. Knee and headroom are better than expected.
Behind the rear seats, the Tucson features 30.1 cubic feet of cargo space, which grows to 61.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat.
Fit and finish are impressive as is the case with all Hyundais these days, featuring plenty of buttons and switches with clear displays. Hard plastics can be found throughout but are inoffensive, and the top-tier Limited model features leather upholstery and upgraded trim pieces.
2020 Hyundai Tucson Safety
The 2020 Hyundai Tucson features some standard active safety features and great crash test scores.
The 2020 Hyundai Tucson gets good crash test scores and standard active safety equipment, making it one of the safest compact crossovers.
For 2020, the Tucson’s five-star safety rating is renewed from the NHTSA, and while updated figures aren’t available from the IIHS, the new model hasn’t changed, so we expect it to receive the Top Safety Pick+ award yet again.
Starting with last year’s model, the Tucson offers standard automatic emergency braking and active lane control. Sport and Ultimate models get pedestrian detection, while the Limited model comes with adaptive cruise control with stop and go. All Tucsons but the base SE feature standard blind-spot monitors as well, and a surround-view camera is available on the Limited and Ultimate models at a higher cost. Outward vision isn’t great to the rear, but the Tucson’s not alone in that regard.
2020 Hyundai Tucson Features
The 2020 Hyundai Tucson has no shortage of trim levels in lieu of multiple options packages.
All Tucsons come with Hyundai’s excellent 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty as well as 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage
In base SE form, the Tucson includes the less powerful 2.0-liter inline-4, cloth upholstery, air conditioning, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, and automatic emergency braking as well as active lane control. We recommend starting with the Tucson Value trim, which adds heated front seats, satellite and HD radio, blind-spot monitors, keyless ignition, and an 8-way power driver’s seat. It’s our pick in the lineup.
The Tucson SEL model includes the larger and more powerful 2.4-litre engine, as well as automatic climate control and extra USB charging ports among other features. The Sport model has 8-speaker Infinity audio system, LED headlights, wireless phone charging, and styling flourishes. It’s a similar story with the Limited model, which includes power front seats, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and classier styling elements.
If you do decide to go all-in on a Tucson, the Ultimate model gets cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and an upgraded 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation. Adaptive cruise control is also standard, and a surround-view camera system is optional.
All-wheel drive is optional across the range, while front-wheel drive is standard.
2020 Hyundai Tucson Fuel Economy
The 2020 Hyundai Tucson makes use of less powerful 4-cylinder engines.
The base 2.0-liter inline-4 manages figures of 23 mpg city, 28 highway, 25 combined with front-wheel drive and 22/25/23 mpg with all-wheel drive.
The more powerful 2.4-liter inline-4 that’s standard on the SEL trim and above makes very similar numbers, managing 22/28/25 mpg in front-wheel-drive form, while all-wheel-drive models get 21/26/23 mpg.

Hyundai Santa Cruz’s Naked Body Revealed in Leaked Image
Hyundai has been taunting us with the promise of a production-bound Santa Cruz pickup for nearly a half-decade. In 2016, the truck was reportedly greenlit to enter production in 2018 as a 2019 model. That timeline has come and gone, but we’re still anxiously awaiting the arrival of Hyundai’s unibody hauler. This week, a photo of the Santa Cruz’s body may have leaked online, and if it’s legitimate, the truck looks a lot more conventional than the concept the South Korean brand debuted at the 2015 Detroit auto show.

Posted to Instagram by user cars_secrets, the photo shows what appears to be the Santa Cruz’s fully uncovered body in production or near-production form. Unlike the concept, which featured suicide doors, the truck in this photo has four conventional doors. It doesn’t have the same dramatic body lines as the concept, and the truck’s bed looks a little longer now. We’re not surprised by the new look, as Hyundai design boss SangYup Lee told us last year that the truck’s design had changed. Lee commented the new truck has “a lot more character.” We’ll reserve our judgment until we see the final product with cladding and wheels, though.
Like the Honda Ridgeline, the Hyundai Santa Cruz will have a unibody structure. In fact, it’s expected to ride on the same platform as the next-generation Hyundai Tucson. Powertrain options remain unclear at this point, but we’re likely to get a four-cylinder gas engine rather than the original concept’s turbo-diesel 2.0-liter four-cylinder. It’s possible the truck even receives the 2.5-liter inline-four and eight-speed automatic transmission of the 2020 Sonata. Expect power to go to the front wheels, although all-wheel-drive is sure to be optionally available. The price? We suspect the truck will start somewhere around $25,000.
As of November 2019, the Hyundai Santa Cruz was set to enter production in 2021. Hyundai said it will make the truck at its plant in Montgomery, Alabama, which currently builds the brand’s Santa Fe, Sonata, and Elantra models.
