2020 BMW X1 🇩🇪 ______________________________________ [5/28/19] BMW is making a heavy push of its FWD platform lately with the new 1 series and now the updated 2020 X1. Now this is not a redesign but rather just a facelift to bring an updated exterior styling for the X1 to fit in better with its other X brethren.. (that sounded better in my head). The main new features upfront include a new bumper design that incorporates new LED headlights, a sharper kidney grill, new LED taillights, revised body cladding and accents, new tailpipes. 🔥@Allcarnews Spec Sheet: Besides the minor exterior updates, the 2020 X1 gets loads up new powertrain options. The new xDrive25e trim will get a Turbo gas engine making 123HP and 162 lb-ft of torque paired to a rear mounted electric motor making 94HP and 122 lb-ft of torque fueled by a 9.7 kWh battery pack and allows for 31miles on EV only driving. Then there is the xDrive 28i trim with a 2.0L Turbo four making 228HP and 258 lb-ft of torque and can do 0-60 in around 6.3sec. No word so far on a M35i trim which might only be reserved for the sportier X2🔥 Being just a facelift, the interior is not the new BMW layout but does get a new gear shifter, a new optional 10.25in iDrive system, updated leather colors and well.. that’s pretty much it. M Sport trims do Get a slightly sportier look but thats pretty much it. BMW also has included new colors like Storm Bay, Jucaro Beige and Misano Blue. Pricing and on sale dates should come soon. ________________________________________ ACN EXTRA: Am I the only one who completely forgot the X1 existed?? ________________________________________ - - #BMW #Inline4 #BMWM #German #Audi #Mercedes An #allcarnews post #Germany #X1 #1series #M135i #X2 #1M #Aclass #Q3 #GLA ||#powerful #performance #turbocharged #advanced #SupercarsRevamped #Supercar #HyperCar #ItsWhiteNoise #MadWhips #manual #Carstagram #BlackList #AmazingCars247 https://www.instagram.com/p/ByBlP7BhAjQ/?igshid=102zbmn43cdco

New 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA250 crossover grows in dimension and also cost
The greatly upgraded 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA250 is still the most inexpensive crossover with a three-pointed star in its nose, however not by a large margin.
Today, Mercedes-Benz revealed the 2021 GLA250 will certainly set you back $37,280 to start, consisting of destination charges. Adding all-wheel drive, which Mercedes-Benz calls "4Matic," adds $2,000 to the bottom line. That's a $2,035 rise over the 2020 GLA-Class, although both are connected by name as well as very little else. [toyota 4runner liftgate release switch]For 2021, Mercedes-Benz greatly modified practically every little thing in the cute 'ute: body, inside, technology, and also powertrain. The GLA-Class is still the smallest crossover provided by Mercedes in the U.S., but it's joined currently by the GLB250 that costs just $370 more. If the GLB-Class is a little bit nation with its heavyset body, upright styling, as well as available 3rd row seat, the GLA-Class is a little rock and roll with a curvier roofline as well as showy stance. Inside, the GLA250 sports a set of 7.0-inch screens for driver info and infotainment controls and also upgraded software application that includes natural-language commands. Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto compatibility are typical, as well as the pair of screens can be upgraded to twin 10.3-inch displays.
Mercedes hasn't yet clued us into all the alternatives offered for the GLA-Class, although we anticipate appearance packages, updated leather seats, bigger wheels, and a brightened star because why not. Every 2021 GLA250 will certainly include automated emergency stopping without investing a lot more, which is also a great concept[visit].
The new GLA250 will go on sale later this summer and compete against the BMW X2 and Audi Q3.

Refreshing or Revolting: BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe vs. Mercedes-Benz CLA
The 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe answers a question no one asked: What would a BMW competitor to the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class look like? Slotting below the 4 Series Gran Coupe, the 2020 2 Series Gran Coupe rides on a front-drive-based platform shared with the X1 and X2. For the U.S., the 2 Series Gran Coupe will only come with all-wheel drive.
Upon first glance, the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe borrows its front end design from the X2. The twin-kidney grille and headlight clusters are the same shape as in the crossover, giving it a familiar appearance. Compared to the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has a chunkier look thanks to its rounded appearance. More differences become apparent when you see the 2 Series Gran Coupe’s side profile. Its roofline doesn’t descend as quickly as the CLA’s, giving it more glass area and a shorter, liftback-like rear end. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, on the other hand, has a longer rear deck, making it more obvious that it’s a sedan.
Out back, the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe takes cues from recently revealed BMW vehicles including the thin taillight strips and faux air vents in the lower rear fascia. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class also has a similar taillight design but the air vents on the lower part are shorter. Its rear end is also rounded versus the 2 Series Gran Coupe’s squared off rear.
Step inside and you’ll immediately notice that the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe’s interior looks similar to the recently revealed 3 Series sedan. It features a large 10.25-inch touchscreen and the same horizontal dash as nearly every BMW model. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class has a less conventional design with two displays instead of a traditional layout. On the center console, the Mercedes has a touchpad and the electronic gear selector has been mounted on the steering column instead for a cleaner look. BMW’s center console retains the iDrive knob surrounded by buttons, an electronic shifter, and a row of buttons including the stop/start button to the left of it.
When it goes on sale, the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be available in 228i and M235i flavors. Both will come standard with all-wheel drive. A 2.0-liter turbo-four paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission will be the only powertrain available. In the 228i, it makes 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the M235i produces 301 hp and 332 lb-ft.
Pricing for the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe should start just below $40,000 for the base 228i, with the M235i coming in higher than that. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class starts at $37,645 for a base front-drive CLA 250 while all-wheel drive adds $2,000 more. Unlike the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class has two performance-oriented models a 302-hp AMG CLA 35 and a more potent 382-hp AMG CLA 45.

2020 BMW 1 Series 🇩🇪 ______________________________________ [5/25/19] THIS is the 2020 BMW 1 series and it has a major change. Being on a totally new platform, this next generation 1 series will now be FWD based with optional X-Drive AWD. The previous 1 series line was unique for its RWD layout in a 5 door hatch style, a model we only say in the form of the 1 series coupe in the US. This new hatch will directly compete with the new A-Class hatch & A3 (A35 & S3) and is everything you would expect of a modern BMW in terms of styling and tech, expect for the powertrain and proposed handling/dynamics. This is the UKL fwd based platform that only underpins the X1, X2 and all the MINI models. We probably won’t see the 1 series in the US BUT we will see the 2 series GranCoupe coupe styled sedan which is basically the same car as above but you know.. looking like a mini 8 series GranCoupe. 🔥@Allcarnews Spec Sheet: The top spec M135i should get a potent 2.0L Turbo 4 making around 302HP and 332 lb-ft of torque sent to all four wheels only. 🔥 The exterior looks like a X2 lowered down and refreshed and in this M Performance M135i model, it gets the new M performance line copper gold accents on the exterior trim. The M135i trim also should get an M sport differential, M brakes and so on... but NO FULL M mode is coming as the M division said they refuse to make a FWD based full M model! The interior is typical new BMW with that new full digital instrument cluster, fantastic iDrive system that is much more intuitive and easier to use than the new MBUX system BUT you unfortunately may have to pay a subscription to use AppleCarplay... come on BMW! ________________________________________ ACN EXTRA: At least BMW M Division agrees real performance cars deserve a RWD based chassis & platform! 🎉 ________________________________________ - - #BMW #Inline4 An #allcarnews post #Germany #M2 #1series #M135i #M1 #1M #Aclass #A35 #A45 ||#powerful #performance #turbocharged #advanced #SupercarsRevamped #Supercar #HyperCar #ItsWhiteNoise #MadWhips #manual #Carstagram #BlackList #AmazingCars247 https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx5q6rJBmvu/?igshid=1re3orhxalteg

BMW Announces i4 EV Concept, Sets 2021 Shipments
One of the highlights of the Geneva International Motor Show that didn’t happen this week (coronavirus fears) was the planned introduction of the BMW i4. As with many other planned GIMS rollouts, it took place virtually or at the automaker’s headquarters. BMW’s “Gran Coupe” is a stunning EV with a bit dashboard LCD, four doors, a really big grille, and a slightly different BMW logo.
What BMW showed is the i4 concept car, albeit a concept that hews closely to what the production car will look like. Nothing too far out at all. While some specs are in flux, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse said it will have a range of 600 kilometers (373 miles) and 0-100 kph (62 mph) acceleration of less than four seconds. BMW hasn’t talked price yet, but BMW is a premium car company, and EVs carry a premium price tag. Some of the EV cost delta will be recovered in lower maintenance costs.
The i4 powertrain will have an electric motor rated at 390 kW or 530 hp. The battery pack will be 80 kWh (the largest batteries on Tesla are 100 kWh). It can charge at up to 150 kW and return to 80 percent capacity in “around 35 minutes,” BMW says. “This results in a charging time of around six minutes for a range of 100 kilometers.” Top speed will be more than 200 km/h or about 125 mph. Some say the BMW claim of 373 miles of driving range may translate to 300 to 325 miles in real-world driving. Still, pretty good.
BMW says there will be three “experience modes,” which isn’t quite a driving mode where engine and suspension settings change. They are called Core, Sport, and Efficient. The Efficient mode “Assisted Driving View” replicates for the driver what the car’s sensors are sensing.
Here’s what else BMW has to say about its vehicle:
The interior of the BMW Concept i4 focuses on those times when the driver chooses to pilot the car themselves. To this end, every element in the front of the cabin is trained on the driver. The new BMW Curved Display teams up with the steering wheel to reveal a new take on driver orientation and offers a look ahead to the display in the production versions of the BMW iNEXT and BMW i4. Here, the presentation surfaces of the information display and Control Display merge into a single unit inclined toward the driver. This screen grouping optimizes presentation of information and makes the display’s touch operation more intuitive. Advanced display tech with non-reflective glass also removes the need for a shroud to shade the displays and therefore contributes to an extremely uncluttered and airy cockpit.
… The design of the BMW Concept i4 shows fantastic proportions, a powerfully expressive character and, of course, a lot of attention to detail. With the BMW Curved Display, we have redefined BMW’s signature driver focus in an extremely elegant way. At the same time, the BMW Concept i4 transports a feeling of sustainable driving pleasure.
This is BMW’s first new EV in seven years, since the i3, which continues and will get a second-generation delivered this year. The i4 will be built in the company’s Munich factory. (The US plant in Spartanburg, SC, is for SUVs only.)
While BMW doesn’t yet have the market clout of Tesla, it makes more models that are electrified – primarily plug-in hybrids – and in the US has six EV or PHEV models, more than any other automaker.

It looks like BMW M has big ambitions for its division, with plans to expand its line-up with more M Performance and M models that span the entire BMW product range. According to an Autocar report, everything from the M135i xDrive to a hot 600-hp version of the upcoming X8 SUV will get the magic M touch. Also in the pipeline is a bespoke, electrified mid-engine coupe based on the Vision M Next, so there’s really no shortage of muscle-flexing here.
The report adds that significant restructuring measures have been put in place to ensure the long-term competitiveness of popular M models, especially considering the growing number of rivals, notably from Mercedes-AMG, Audi Sport, Jaguar SVO, and Porsche. The move is said to be a quick ramp-up of a plan that was originally laid out by former M boss Frank van Meel, but is now under the watchful eye of his successor, Markus Flasch.
It’s not a future plan. In fact, it’s already set in motion – the recently launched X3 M, X4 M, M8 Coupe and M8 Convertible are part of the expansion programme, and so are the M135i xDrive and X2 M35i. BMW M also plans to introduce more hardcore CS models, starting with the M2 CS next year.
Could the BMW Vision M Next concept be the direct successor of the iconic M1?
At this point, you must be wondering how BMW plans to take on the Audi RS3 and Mercedes-AMG A 45. Autocar reported that plans for an even hotter 1 Series, one that could potentially make 400 hp from a four-cylinder petrol engine, have been approved. At launch, the range-topping model will be positioned above the existing M135i (302 hp, 420 Nm), and goes head to head against the upcoming Volkswagen Golf R Plus.
Other than that, the Vision M Next, which is tipped to be the reborn M1 coupe, could also be had as a convertible. The folks at BMW M are also looking at proposals for unique limited-edition M models inspired by the Vision M Next. “We are investigating M variants that may also be standalone, that don’t have a predecessor,” Flasch told the press at the X3 M and X4 M launch.
At the other end of the spectrum, a new range-topping X8 M model has been conceived, and will take on the likes of the Audi RS Q8, Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 and Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo. On the other hand, M Performance models will continue to be powered by retuned versions of standard BMW engines, of which will include petrol, diesel, and petrol plug-in hybrid guises.
Meanwhile, full-blown M cars will either get a 2.0 litre four banger, an updated 3.0 litre straight six, or a new 4.0 litre V8. These engines are said to form a modular base for all dedicated M models, much like Mercedes-AMG’s strategy, except maybe minus the one man, one engine philosophy. This allows greater economies of scale and speeds up the development process.
The G80 BMW M3 and M4 – set to be released in 2020 – will continue to be powered by a 3.0 litre inline-six, albeit with revisions to facilitate a decent bump in output. Apparently, the engine will be able to produce over 500 hp. Both models may be offered with a manual transmission, and xDrive all-wheel drive could be an option as well, insiders say.
Besides that, selected M Performance and M cars could benefit from BMW’s petrol-hybrid powertrains. Although not confirmed, engineering sources reveal that there are plans to establish a two-tier line-up of hybrid powertrains. Anyone excited about this? Well, you’ve got BMW’s R&D boss, Klaus Fröhlich to thank.
BMW M model range set to grow exponentially – report It looks like BMW M has big ambitions for its division, with plans to expand its line-up with more M Performance and M models that span the entire BMW product range.

2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB: Compact SUV, Redesign, Powertrain, Price. The all-new Mercedes GLB has been caught during the testing and from the spy shots, we can conclude that the brand’s latest SUV will be a combination of familiar boxy design and some modern new details. In terms of dimensions, the GLB will stand between the small GLA and the larger C-Class, GLC. When it comes to the styling, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB will be inspired by the G-Class model.
The newest Mercedes GLB will use the same platform which is used in the A-Class and B-Class. Like the A-Class, the brand-new GLB will most likely offer similar engine options. The GLB’s main competitors will include BMW X2, Jeep Renegade, Volvo XC40, and Audi Q2.
Engines and performances of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB will most likely use the same engines which power the newest A-Class model. And there will be several-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The base unit will be a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine which is able to deliver 163 horses and 184 pound-feet of torque.
For the European market, there will be a diesel option. It is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine which will have the output of 116 horses and the torque of 192 pound-feet. This powertrain will work with a 7-speed automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the newest GLB also available with a plug-in hybrid engine, but we still not get information about the exact specifications.
Exterior and interior
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB will ride on the updated version of the MFA2 platform which underpins the A-Class and B-Class models too. Looking its exterior, the new GLB will feature a typical boxy, SUV shape which is inspired by the G-Class model.
The cabin of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB will look very similar to the one of the A-Class model. The dashboard will be covered with black fabric; it will feature a large, most likely 10.25-inch touchscreen with latest MBUX infotainment system. The upcoming Mercedes should arrive with a 64-color lighting system, wood trim, all-digital instrument cluster, navigation, voice control, and so on.
Release date and price
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB should enter the market sometime during 2020. Its starting price should be in a range from $38,000-41,000.

2016 updates:
F97 X3M (G01 based) and F98 X4M (G02 based) are coming.
Just like Scott promised, no more wagons for this side of the pond. You want a Touring – grab an F31 while you still can. I have.
The next M5, X5M, and X6M will all get the same engine, S63B44T4. Note that the latest production iteration of this engine is T2. My best guess for the reasons for skipping T3 is that T3 did exist, but the engineers went further and made a still better version.
Production codes for the next 1 and 2: F40, F41, G42, G43, F44. I wonder why the coupe and the convertible are G while the rest are F…
Despite recent rumors, there will be an 8 GC. For starters, there will be the same 840i, 850i, and non-US 830d and 840d as with G14 and G15.
January 2017 The following comes from a new unverified source, so please don’t give it as much trust as to my previous reports. Still, to me it seems plausible, so worth posting.
EU 530i and 520d EffDyn will have a shorter production run than other G30s – up to 06/18. The assumption is they will be re-engined (this matches with the rumors of B48 TU coming out at G20 introduction).
Under the same assumption, 540i, M550i, and US 530i will be re-engined in 07/19. I find it interesting that US is again going to be one year behind EU with 4-cyl replacement.
530e will continue with the same engine/motor until at least 06/20.
G11/G12 LCI starts production in March 2019.
The next four items are repeated from previous leaks, but this is an independent source, and when two sources say the same thing, it can hardly be called a rumor anymore
F30 EOP is 10/18:
F31 EOP is 06/19 (if you want a new custom order BMW wagon, don’t delay past April 2019!)
F32 EOP is 06/20
F33 EOP is 10/20
F34 and F36 EOP now seems to be 07/20 (that is, F34 will have a longer than expected run, while F36 production will be cut short). This date is actually very unusual: BMW EOPs all its Germany-made models in February, June, or October. The best explanation I have is that their production will be moved from Dingolfing to Mexico.
F16 EOP is confirmed 07/19 (G06 SOP 08/19)
F48 EOP is 06/22
G30 EOP is 10/23, so it will have the customary 7 year run.
F60 EOP is 10/23
March 2017
M8: F91 Cab, F92 Coupe, F93 GC. Coming in 2019-2020.
F97 X3M will start production as a MY2020 vehicle (expect early 2019 intro) and will debut the S58 making 450hp+.
April 2017
It’s now confirmed that the US 30d models (G01 X3 30d and G20 330d) will in fact have the same engine as the European 20d models.
In future models, M Sport package will include a different exhaust system.
July 2017
Current EOP for G01 is November 2023, which means a shorter than usual 6 years and 4 months run. Both gas models will get TU engines in August 2019.
In a year or so the electric range of the i3 will be bumped to approximately double of the original version.
August 2017
Like X3M, F98 X4M is scheduled for MY2020, with market launch either simultaneous with F97, or a very short period of time apart.
M4 CS production will end no later than 06/19 (a full year before the scheduled EOP for the standard M4).
Now, something new to this series: future engine lineup. This is likely not comprehensive, but should still cover a lot of ground and give you a good idea of what to expect in the future. I believe the timeframe covered by this information is 3 years, maybe 4, so each statement below that says “will happen” or “won’t happen” should be read as “will/won’t happen in the next three years”. Also note the absence of any mention of hybrid or electric engines – I don’t have a good enough picture to talk about those.
B37 will not get any major updates in RWD models anytime soon. The transverse (FWD) version has a TU planned. No new versions are planned.
B38 will get TU for all existing versions (starting with the recently updated F48 sDrive18i), with the exception of the 1.2L one and the one that goes into i8. No new versions are planned.
B47 is simple: TU for all versions with the exception of longitudinal 16d (will be dropped?)
B48 is starting to get its first TU (now available in Europe in F48 sDrive20i). The TU version will soon find its way into more UKL models, and then we’ll see it in the CLAR cars, either with 07/18 “model upgrade measures” in G30, or at G20 intro. The only new version of this engine currently planned is the one that will go into UKL M35i, B48A20T1. The longitudinal versions will remain limited to 20i (B48B20M1) and 30i (B48B20O1).
B57 – TU for 30d and 40d, but not 50d.
B58 will get a TU (probably mid-2019), and with the TU will come a new version, B58B30O1. Note that up until now, all models, even the highest output X3 M40i, have been using the M0 version of this engine. O1 will probably take us even closer to 400hp.
N63 is currently in its third iteration (TU2), and there will be the fourth one (TU3) that will add two new versions, one below (M3) and one above (T3) of the current O2 (to be succeeded by O3). This actually looks somewhat illogical to me, since the future top version of B58 and the future bottom version of N63 should end up really close to each other in output. I suspect one of them may not actually happen.
N74 used in the brand new Phantom is actually one iteration ahead of the one in M760i (TU2 vs TU1) in addition to being bigger (6.8L vs 6.6L). M760i will catch up with its own TU2 soon, but there will also be something new, probably RR specific (Cullinan Black Badge?): N74B68M2.
S55 will not get a TU, but will be replaced by S58 (full name S58B30T0), as we already know.
S63 just got its newest upgrade in F90. It’s going to stick around for a while.
September 2017
B48TU in 30i vehicles will get a small power increase to 255hp. This is the engine G20 330i will come with.
Speaking of G20, it’s getting all the cool toys we’ve seen or only heard about. The same new instrument panel as the 8, special diff included with ZMP, ambient light, laser lights (even US cars), significantly improved autonomous driving capabilities, etc. A totally unexpected addition is remote engine start. But overall, interior quality and equipment are going to match or exceed the new X3.
S63 may get a small power bump in F95/F96 compared to F90. Really small.
F95 X5 M is confirmed as MY2020. 2019 is going to be very busy for M cars.
i3 with the 120Ah battery will be available in 2018 as a MY2019.
F44 2GC (2 Series Gran Coupe) is confirmed for the U.S.
G07 X7 is confirmed for (near-)simultaneous introduction with G05 in 2018. One interesting bit is that the top diesel model (non-US with the same old B57S) currently carries the M50d designation, with a bunch of M pieces as standard, while the top gas model is still xDrive50i, and the same M pieces are options. As widely reported, G07 will be very similar mechanically to G05, with the main differentiation in creature comforts and the 3rd row specific configuration: there will be 6- and 7-seat versions and climate control will have 5 independent zones (because having only four zones is so plebeian).
October 2017
Good news/bad news about G29. Good news: M40i will have power output at the upper end of our expectations (not very far from M2/S55). Bad news: I haven’t seen any G29s with a manual. sDrive30i will not surprise – same engine as G20 330i. Interesting colors are Misano Blue, San Francisco Red, and Frozen Grey II. And you’ll be able to build a Superman Z4 too. Mid-2018 market intro as previously established.
November 2017
Confirmed engine upgrades (B48TU, B58TU, N63TU3):
7/18 – non-US B48 G3x
11/18 – G20 intro with new B48 and B58
3/19 – G11/G12 LCI with all upgraded engines (BTW, 750i becomes xDrive only at that point)
7/19 – US B48 G3x and all B58 and N63 G3x
8/19 – all G01/G02
EOP for G32 is 6/24.
M2 CSL is a real thing.
Confirmed 300hp for B48A20T1 engine (X2 M35i, future M235i GC).
A more powerful hybrid powertrain is coming in 745e and X5 xDrive45e models.
G08 (X3 long base) is being considered for other countries besides China, including US/Canada.
F39 X2 M35i will be introduced in mid-2018 as a 2019 model. It will be the first model to use the new iteration of B48 engine producing approximately 300hp. Only automatic transmission will be available. The car will have the same bits offered on the already introduced X2 models equipped with M Sport package, adding LED lights as standard and special M Sport seats (not clear yet, if they’ll be standard or optional).
M340i details: same power as Z4 M40i (380hp or more), automatic only, M features: M Sport brakes, M diff, variable steering, M suspension (option 704 standard even with xDrive, adaptive suspension optional), M steering wheel, M exterior, rear spoiler, 19″ wheels. The rumored carbon roof was just a rumor. Interesting colors: Portimao Blue, Blue Ridge Mountain. And some bad news: it will be a delayed intro, so we won’t see it until Spring 2019 or later.
Regular readers will remember that I first reported about a weird 1.6L version of B48 a couple of years ago and couldn’t figure out what or why or when. Now we have the answer: it will be used in some models with 20i designation and will produce only 170hp. It will go into G20, G01, and later other models. Right now it seems that this engine is targeted primarily or exclusively at 3rd world markets.
December 2017
The target power output for S58, the engine to be used in M3/M4/X3M/X4M, is 475hp.
Comp pack will be available as an option on X3M/X4M, possibly right at SOP.
F91 (Conv) and F92 (Coupe) M8 begins production in 2019 as MY2020. The F90 drivetrain will carry over without changes, though there’s the possibility of a very slight power output increase on the US models. Comp pack will also be an available option at SOP.
There are now five different M cars that will come to market in 2019. This is madness.
G11/G12 LCI scheduled for early 2019 is mostly about putting together all the pieces I wrote about earlier: 750i goes up to 530hp with the new revision of N63, 740i goes up to 335hp with the new revision of B58, and the new 745e (replacing 740e) will make 390hp. Live Cockpit (all-digital instrument panel) will be standard and laser lights will be optional. The most interesting bit is that G11 could return to North America.
February 2018
Supra details: three engines (EU-only 195hp 20i, 255hp 30i, and 335hp 40i – and this means the 380hp Z4 M40i will be offered only by BMW and only in North America and a few other non-EU markets). Intro later this year, common sense suggests it will be simultaneous with Z4. It will be Toyota in name and body design only – everything inside the car is the same familiar BMW stuff: same options, same colors, same interior materials. Speaking of colors, it feels almost like a throwback to the 00s: Glacier Silver, Atacama Yellow, and Crimson Red are coming back, though there’ll also be a new matte gray. For the interior, you’ll be able to choose between fabric, alcantara, and leather, and (the gods have heard us!) all of these choices will be available in the U.S. Wheels: 17″ standard with 18″ and 19″ optional on 20i and 30i, 18″ standard and 19″ optional on 40i. 40i gets standard M sport diff, while on 30i it will be optional in something that BMW would call “ZMP”. Market positioning for the car seems to be distinctly lower than BMW, for example, the barebones 30i will have manual seat adjustments and no nav system. And, finally (cue the sad trombone): all models are automatic only.
April 2018
F40 M135i xDrive: I don’t usually write about non-US models, but I feel I should make an exception here since the US M235i GC will be virtually the same car in a different body. So, here’s what to expect: same engine as X2 M35i (300hp version of transverse B48), sport automatic only, xDrive only, M Sport configuration includes as standard: bodywork, suspension (non-adaptive), brakes, steering rack, 18″ wheels. Regular sport seats will be standard, with upgraded M Sport seats optional. As far as other options, pretty much anything you can add to a G20 will be available on F40 too (well, not rear wheel drive, of course). Still on track for 07/19 SOP.
May 2018
G15 840i RWD and xDrive (B58T, 335hp) will arrive in 2019 as MY2020.
G16 8GC will be introduced at the same time in 2019 with full model range: 840i RWD and xDrive, M850i, and non-US 840d.
G20 is confirmed to use a 48V electrical system.
G20 model list as it stands now (other models are possible, but no earlier than late 2019):
318d: non-US, B47, 148hp, manual and automatic, RWD.
320d: non-US, B47, 188hp, manual RWD, automatic RWD and xDrive.
330d: non-US, B57, 262hp, automatic RWD and xDrive (xDrive possibly delayed intro).
320i: non-US, B48 168hp 1.6L or 181hp 2.0L depending on the market, automatic RWD and xDrive (xDrive possibly delayed intro).
330i: all markets, B48, 255hp, automatic RWD and xDrive (non-US xDrive possibly delayed intro).
M340i: all markets, B58, 385hp, automatic RWD (US only) and xDrive, delayed intro.
330e: all markets, B48+electic motor, 248hp, automatic RWD and xDrive (xDrive US only), delayed intro, with US possibly having to wait longer than Europe.
F48 X1 LCI will arrive for MY2020. It will have the upgraded version of B48 (though same power output as before), some cosmetic changes, new wheels, infotainment update, and that’s about it – nothing major. M35i is not confirmed yet.
Regarding the rumors of M760i going away at LCI: not true, it will continue in all markets.
G01/G02 are confirmed for engine upgrades for MY2020. 30i remains at 248hp, M40i gets a bump to 385hp.
G05 X5 xDrive45e iPerformance (same 390hp powertrain that will be seen first in 745e LCI) will be available in 2019 for MY2020.
G06 will be released in mid-2019 for MY2020 with sDrive40i, xDrive40i, M50i. M50i will use the same version of N63 as just announced for M850i, producing 530hp. One interesting option that seems specific to G06 at the moment: “Iconic Glow Kidneys”. Because the poor owners of the previous X6 models have been suffering from not being visible enough on the road.
Both G05 X5 and G07 X7 xDrive50i will replace their launch version of N63 (456hp) with the same new 530hp engine and become X5/X7 M50i. Here’s finally your explanation why they were sticking with “xDrive50i”: “M50i” was reserved for the more powerful engine.
July 2018
It would be reasonable to expect the US-only M2 Racing (new Spec class?) to appear in early 2020 and the worldwide M2 CSL – in mid-2020 as MY2021, for a one year run.
MY2020 G30 530i and 540i and G32 640i will get the updated B46 (no change in output) and B58 (bumped to 335hp) engines as predicted previously, along with the new instrument panel as standard. M550i will move to the new 530hp N63.
F44 2GC will arrive in late 2019 as MY2020. The engines are the 228hp familiar from X1 and X2 and the 300hp we’ll soon see in X2.
July 2018 part deux
Funny enough, F94 X7M was (is?) under consideration.
G24 (next 3GT) has been canceled. Good riddance.
G26 will keep the hatchback. There are hints that it’s been delayed until 07/21.
At this time the only engine planned for G42 2er Coupe is B48.
I20 iNext will have at least two performance levels.
August 2018
G01 X3 and G02 X4 will be getting the new dash next year for MY2020. That’s also when we’ll see the hybrid X3 xDrive30e with the same motor as the upcoming G20 330e, uprated to 275hp.
US G05 X5 xDrive40d (aka 30d in all other countries) is somehow still alive for the release next year.
EOP for F34 and F36 has been moved to 06/21. The former is likely to compensate for the cancellation of G24 and the latter should be seen as evidence of the next 4GC needing extra development time so it can become a more interesting (unusual?) car than its predecessor.

Wheelspinning Our Way Through 2017
If 2017 was the year of President Trump everywhere else, in the automotive world, it seemed to be the year of Elon Musk. Again. Musk’s Tesla began 2017 with some 440,000 intenders each holding $1,000 deposit receipts for a new $35,000+ Model 3 with hopes they would start to get their cars by midyear.
Tesla ended 2017 with Musk now building anticipation for a new semi truck, apparently named “Semi,” which he says will have a 500-mile range and will begin deliveries in 2019, with a new Roadster model—actually a 2+2 targa grand touring car capable of 250 mph+ and 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds—arriving at dealers a year later.
Musk said Tesla delivered just 233 Model 3s by the end of the third quarter. When I asked Tesla public relations for an update on deliveries through, at least, mid-December, the response was to refer to Musk’s third-quarter analysts’ call held November 1. Tesla PR said the number of deliveries will be updated in the first quarter 2018 analysts’ call. So it goes.
In reality, 2017 was the year that traditional automakers ramped up their counter-assault on Tesla’s electric vehicles, with plans for everything from fuel cells and solid-state batteries to new ways to make the internal combustion engine cleaner and more efficient. Here’s how I saw the year in automobiles …
Fords with a future: CEO Mark Fields announces a $700-million investment in its Flat Rock, Michigan, plant to build a hybrid Mustang, a 300-plus mile EV SUV by 2020, and a hybrid-powered fully autonomous vehicle by 2021. Ford also will build hybrid versions of its F-150 pickup, and its Explorer-based Interceptor Police Utility vehicle and Taurus-based Police Interceptor sedan. At the same time, Fields attempts to assuage President-elect Trump’s anti-North American Free Trade Agreement position by cancelling plans for a new Mexican assembly plant.
Mary Barra adds “chairman” to her title: General Motors’ board elects its first female CEO to become its first female chairman, as well. Through much of its 109-year history, GM has assigned those titles to separate executives.
U.S. auto sales hits another record: Automakers report January 5 that they sold 17.54 million cars and light trucks in 2016, topping 2015, the previous record year, by 56,211 units. While car sales clearly have peaked, we’ll finish off calendar year ’17 at a still-healthy 17.1 million, according to AutoTrader’s mid-December estimate.
North American International Auto Show highlights: The 2017 Detroit Auto Show featured the new Kia Stinger, Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe, Toyota Camry, Nissan Vmotion 2.0 concept (the next Altima), Honda Odyssey, Infiniti QX50 concept, Chevrolet Traverse, Lexus LS, and Volkswagen I.D. Buzz concept (a modern EV Microbus). Sergio Marchionne reveals in his annual Detroit show press conference that the next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee will share the new longitudinal engine platform that underpins the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Ford shows nothing of significance.
EPA says Fiat Chrysler’s diesel Jeeps and Rams violate the Clean Air Act with defeat devices: Just prior to President Trump taking office, the Environmental Protection Agency announces it’s investigating Fiat Chrysler for alleged fuel economy/emissions test cheating devices on its Jeep and Ram EcoDiesel engines. Fiat Chrysler in May announces it has a software fix to solve the problem.
GM and Honda announce a fuel cell deal: In late January, General Motors and Honda announce a joint venture to design and develop a next-generation, compact fuel cell stack. They plan to build these fuel cell stacks together at a GM plant in Brownstown Township, Michigan, that assembles battery packs for the Chevrolet Bolt and Volt by 2021.
Geneva International Motor Show Highlights: The new McLaren 720S was the show’s runaway hit, though Robert Cumberford also singles out the Fittipaldi EF7 by Pininfarina. Automobile staff also like the Aston Martin Valkyrie, Mercedes-AMG Concept GT, Volkswagen Arteon, Range Rover Velar, Alpine A110, Volvo XC60, and Bentley EXP12 Speed 6e.
GM sells Opel/Vauxhall to PSA Peugeot Citroen for $2.3 billion: The world’s third-largest automaker runs from one of the world’s largest markets¬—the European Union, collectively, is about as large as the U.S. market in millions of annual sales. It’s also a very tough market, with strict regulations, loose enforcement (see, German-brand diesels), and relatively strong unions that make it hard to move assembly plants to former Soviet satellite countries with lower labor costs. In the end, though, it may have been Brexit that pushed the sale over the line. GM’s Vauxhall was stronger in the United Kingdom than was Opel on the Continent.
Trump rescinds the Obama administration 2025 CAFE standard: Automakers selling cars and trucks in the U.S. were required to reach a 54.5-mpg Corporate Average Fuel Economy standard under an agreement reached with the Obama administration in 2010, shortly after the GM and Chrysler loan guarantee bailouts. But the standard always was subject to a “mid-term review” that could pull back the standards. The new Trump administration jumps ahead of that review with an executive order. For automakers, it will offer relief from having to reach the 54.5-mpg CAFE number. However, automakers already were well on their way in engineering new powertrains and lighter, more aerodynamic (and CAFE standard “footprint” measurements) bodies. We’re not likely to see much pullback from those plans, so most automakers will probably be close to meeting the ’25 standard, if a few years late, anyway. What’s more, Trump’s executive order does nothing to the California Mandate requiring a certain percentage of zero-emissions vehicles sold there and in 16 other, mostly coastal states. The California Zero Emissions Mandate already is responsible for cars like the Chevy Bolt and Nissan Leaf, as well as Tesla’s relative success.
Trump wants to tear up NAFTA and place a tariff on Mexican-built autos: After the U.S. auto sales peaks of 2015 and 2016, there’s no shortage of auto manufacturing capacity. As I reported in late March, Trump’s plan to tear up the North American Free Trade Agreement would not push automakers to build new, $1-billion+ factories in the United States (although Volvo, for one, already plans its first assembly plant here). The president specifically attacks Ford for moving Focus production from Michigan to Mexico in 2018, though it’s adding more profitable Ranger pickup and Bronco sport/utility production in its place in Michigan. Ford has since rescinded its plans for a new Mexican plant, and instead will move Focus production to China. President Trump has yet to act on rescinding U.S. participation in NAFTA.
Tesla’s market cap exceeds GM’s and Ford’s: Tesla’s market capitalization first passes Ford Motor Company’s, then in April, General Motors’. Tesla stock has since settled into the low $300s-per-share range, while GM stock has rallied to top the disruptive EV automaker’s cap, again. As of December 21, Tesla was worth about $55.1 billion to GM’s $60.1 billion. Wall Street bulls have defended Tesla’s stock value as a sign of an all-electric future. Tesla will be well positioned to lead that future, the bulls say, though as it continues to lose money and have problems getting Model 3 production up to speed, more and more bears are popping up in the analysts’ community.
Tesla loses $397 million in the first quarter: The losses are worse than analysts’ expectations, but by early June, stock values start to rise again.
Ford fires Fields: Ford Motor Company CEO Mark Fields, a corporate veteran credited for turning around Mazda (which Ford formerly controlled) in the late 1990s, is fired allegedly for lagging on electric car development. The real reason is Ford’s lagging stock value, a bigger concern for William Clay Ford and his relatives, who control the company with 40 percent of its stock. Fields’ replacement is Jim Hackett, hired away from the office furniture company, Steelcase.
GM shareholders reject a dual-class stock proposal: Greenlight Capital wants to split GM stock into two classes [not unlike Ford’s Class B stock] in order to cash in some value out of the automaker. To those of us far from Wall Street it seems the sort of action that would put GM in the same position it was in 12 years ago, when an economic downturn or a change in automotive tastes due to something like a spike in oil prices could lead to serious cash shortage. At GM’s annual meeting in June, shareholders roundly reject Greenlight’s proposal.
BMW 2 Series to lose manual option?: In June, a BMW executive in Germany was quoted indicating that the company would stop importing manual transmission 2 Series models to the U.S. The uproar that caused in the purist-enthusiasts’ community resulted in a clarification. If BMW stops selling stick shift 2 Series models here, it won’t be until the car’s next generation, expected to be the 2020 model year (now less than two years away). Automobile magazine’s Four Seasons ‘17 M2 came with just one option; the dual-clutch seven-speed automatic, because, BMW said, customer demand for the manual created a shortage. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next 2 Series came only with a DCT, which is handy for Level III or IV autonomous features. And the upcoming X2 “sport/activity vehicle” almost certainly will not be offered with a three-pedal layout.
Volvo goes all-electrified by 2019: The misleading headline at Volvo’s own website reads, “Volvo goes all-electric,” but the copy underneath says that by ’19, all Volvos will have an electric motor. While the hyperbole led The Cult of Elon to believe they had won their revolution, at Volvo, this entails everything from pure battery-EV to plug-in hybrid to 48-volt. For sure, the 48-volt revolution is coming, with that technology aiding stop/start systems and in some cases limited EV driving while accommodating the expansion of elaborate infotainment systems. In any event, Volvo’s announcement spurred similar claims later in the year from rival premium automakers.
Nissan launches ProPilot Assist in its all-new, 2018 Leaf: The automated cruise control will start and stop in rush hour traffic, but you still have to keep your hands on the steering wheel, which gently helps you around curves. The new Nissan Leaf’s range is now 150 miles on a full charge, still 78 miles short of the Chevy Bolt’s stated range.
Cadillac launches Super Cruise: Is Cadillac in the autonomy lead? Yes, I think it is, even if Mercedes-Benz and Volvo have slightly more capable systems in the works. As part of Super Cruise’s safety redundancy, GM mapped 180,000 miles of U.S. roads. You must take the wheel of the Cadillac CT6 to change lanes, but otherwise it’s even easier than two-fingertip steering on long, boring Interstates.
Toyota and Mazda announce joint-venture U.S. assembly plant: Likely to be built somewhere in the UAW-bereft Southeast, the joint venture also will help struggling Mazda get into electrified powertrains. Let’s hope it leads to a future for the Mazda MX-5 Miata and Toyota 86, as their Fiat and Subaru deals are not likely to have sequels.
Mazda announces Skyactive X engine technology: Mazda will equip its next 3, coming in 2019, with a compression ignition gasoline powered engine said to nearly equal a similar-sized four-cylinder turbodiesel, and match it for CO2 emissions.
Fiat Chrysler ‘confirms’ it has not been approached by Great Wall Motors: The late-summer denial that a Chinese automaker was looking to buy Fiat Chrysler comes in the middle of a year in which CEO Sergio Marchionne is pretty transparent about his desire to find a dance partner. In my Motor City Blogman column, I note that Jeep and Ram are the two brands that would attract such a partner, and that if Marchionne expected value to be paid for the rest of the brands, the company might have to go it alone for a while longer.
IAA Frankfurt motor show highlights: The Honda Urban EV concept, Mercedes-AMG Project One, a roadgoing F1 car driven onto the stage by Lewis Hamilton (who would soon win his fourth World Driver’s Championship), Renault Symbioz concept, a modern rolling living room, Ferrari Portofino, Hyundai Kona, Kia Proceed concept, and according to Robert Cumberford, the new Borgward Isabella and something called the Aspark Owl.
Delphi splits in two: We don’t often cover Tier One suppliers, but it’s worth noting that this former GM parts division this year split into two companies. Delphi Technology continues to work on updating and improving powertrains, mostly the internal combustion engine, while Aptiv covers autonomy and connectivity. While I often write about automakers’ latest autonomous technology breakthroughs, much of the advances are coming from companies like Aptiv, Continental, Bosch, etc.
GM will launch ‘at least’ 20 new battery-electric or fuel cell vehicles by 2023: While no one has figured out how to make money on BEVs or fuel cells yet, this announcement spurs on GM’s already soaring share prices. The first two new EVs will arrive by mid-2019 and will be based on the current Chevy Bolt, while the new models after that will be off a new electric/fuel cell platform, including what looks to be the C8 Corvette E-ray.
Tokyo Motor Show highlights: The Honda EV Coupe concept, Mazda Vision Coupe concept, Mazda Kai concept (next Mazda3), Subaru Viviz Performance concept (next WRX/STI), Daihatsu DN Compagno concept, and the Toyota TJ Cruiser. In time for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Toyota also displays a new Century limousine and a Tokyo cab, replacing models first designed for the 1964 Olympics that raised the city out of its postwar doldrums.
Tesla loses record $619 million in the third quarter: The cost of developing the much-awaited Tesla Model 3 and its production facility no doubt contributed to all this red ink. CEO Elon Musk says Tesla delivered just 233 of its mass-market EVs as of the end of the quarter, and says ramp-up of production to 5,000 per month now is delayed to the end of the first quarter of 2018—originally, this was the goal for the end of the year.
Peugeot-Citroen launches car-sharing service ahead of return to the U.S.: Free2Move is launched as an aggregation app for Car2Go and Zipcar in Seattle. The app will help PSA relearn the U.S. market ahead of its planned return selling cars here, says North American chief Larry Dominique. PSA will sell one of it from Performance Junk WP Feed 4 http://ift.tt/2BXQdmE via IFTTT
