How to Correct VW MQB RH850 R7F7014xx Mileage with CG100X?
Question:
Is it possible to correct mileage on VW MQB RH850 R7F7014xx dashboard by CG100X? Need cut wire or lift pin?
Eobdtool.co.uk engineer replied:
Yes. CG100X programmer has this function now. Need to update the software to V1.4.1.0.
Use capacitor removal way, and CG100X D1 Adapter is required. No Soldering! No Lift Pin!

Revue de la nouvelle Audi Q3 2019
Le sympathique petit VUS Q3 d'Audi a certainement gagné en popularité depuis son lancement en 2011. Le contingent de la classe s'est également accru au cours de cette période, avec les nouvelles Jaguar E-Pace, Lexus UX et Volvo XC40, toutes en compétition pour les honneurs, aux côtés des BMW X1 et Mercedes-Benz GLA existantes. C'est dans cet esprit qu'Audi a lancé une nouvelle deuxième génération de Q3 à temps pour la nouvelle saison automobile 2019. Le nouveau Q3 a évolué dans les domaines qui comptent le plus pour les acheteurs de VUS, avec un look plus tendance, une série de mises à jour du moteur et de la plate-forme et un habitacle plus spacieux et plus technologique. Nous nous sommes rendus dans les Alpes italiennes pour le lancement international du nouveau Q3, afin de voir comment il a changé et se compare à ses concurrents précités.
Qu'est-ce que c'est ?
Le Q3 a été redessiné à l'extérieur et il bénéficie également de nouvelles bases, bien qu'il ne soit pas très différent du modèle sortant en termes de style. Les dimensions du Q3 ont légèrement augmenté, il est donc un peu plus long et plus large qu'avant, mais il ne s'élève pas plus haut qu'avant. Lors du lancement international, l'ingénieur principal en design extérieur d'Audi nous a parlé de la nouvelle calandre et des plis du capot du Q3 de conception octogonale, ainsi que de ses nouvelles lignes latérales et de ses phares à DEL redessinés qui sont tous des mises à jour subtiles mais progressives. Des options telles qu'une calandre avant foncée et de grandes jantes en alliage S-Line de 19 pouces donnent au Q3 une silhouette plus sportive, tandis que les couleurs de lancement d'Audi telles que Pulse Orange et Turbo Blue (sur la photo) sont pour le moins frappantes.

Nous avons passé beaucoup de temps à conduire le TFSI 35 TFSI de 1,5 litre, et c'est d'ailleurs notre choix de la gamme. Il réagit à basse vitesse et prend rapidement de l'élan aux vitesses autoroutières, tandis qu'il y a aussi un choix de boîtes de vitesses manuelles à six rapports et automatiques S-Tronic à sept rapports.
Ceux qui recherchent une meilleure économie de carburant peuvent considérer le moteur diesel de 2,0 litres de 35 TDI avec 150 chevaux-vapeur. La 35 TDI offre une consommation de carburant supérieure grâce aux cols sinueux et vallonnés du Terol, mais nous avons trouvé que la 35 TFSI de 1,5 litre accompagnée de la boîte automatique à sept rapports d'Audi étaient plus satisfaisante à conduire. A Tiny Part’s Big Ripple: Global Chip Shortage Hobbles the Auto Industry Around the world, auto assembly lines are going quiet, workers are idle and dealership parking lots are looking bare. A shortage of semiconductors, the tiny but critical chips used to calibrate cars’ fuel injection, run infotainment systems or provide the brains for cruise control, has sent a shudder through the automaking world. A General Motors plant in Kansas City closed in February for lack of chips, and still hasn’t reopened. Mercedes-Benz has begun to hoard its chips for expensive models and is temporarily shutting down factories that produce lower-priced C-Class sedans. Porsche warned dealers in the United States this month that customers might have to wait an extra 12 weeks to get their cars, because they lack a chip used to monitor tire pressure. The French automaker Peugeot, part of the newly formed Stellantis automaking empire, has gone so far as to substitute old-fashioned analog speedometers for digital units in some models. The disruption could not come at a worse time. Demand for cars has bounced back strongly from the pandemic slump, with consumers ready to spend money they saved over the past year, eager to avoid airplanes by taking road trips. The supply of semiconductors is depriving carmakers of a chance to make up sales they lost. “We have already a robust demand situation being more held back by the semiconductor issue than anything else,” Ola Källenius, the chief executive of Daimler, said in an interview. Some automakers, such as Renault, have begun to triage their chips, reserving them for more costly models that bring more profit. “We’re trying to find an intelligent way to prioritize cars with the higher margins,” Clotilde Delbos, Renault’s deputy chief executive, told analysts on Thursday. Some buyers may be lucky enough to take home a new car, but it may lack options that use specialized chips. Porsche has told U.S. dealers that for several months it won’t be able to deliver high-end seats in the Macan S.U.V. that can be adjusted 18 different ways, a popular upgrade. The necessary chips are unavailable. One big reason automakers can’t find enough chips is that semiconductor manufacturers have given priority to manufacturers of smartphones, video game consoles and other consumer electronics, which tend to be more lucrative customers. A modern car can easily have more than 3,000 chips. But cars account for a tiny share of chip demand. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, is one of the few makers of a variety of chips vital to auto manufacturing, but in 2020 carmakers generated only 3 percent of the company’s sales, according to Roland Berger, a German consulting firm. TSMC’s most important customers are smartphone makers, which accounted for half of sales. Smartphones outnumber cars by a wide margin. In 2019, before the pandemic disrupted global economies, auto factories churned out 93 million vehicles compared with smartphone production of 1.4 billion units. Over all, the chip shortage and other supply chain snarls curtailed production by 1.3 million vehicles in the first three months of the year, according to IHS Markit, a consultancy. The problem has become a concern for political leaders in Washington and other capitals. Peter Altmaier, the German economics minister, recently appealed to his counterpart in Taiwan, a global center for semiconductor manufacturers, asking in so many words whether the Taiwanese minister couldn’t help shake loose a few chips urgently needed by German carmakers. The chip shortage “has become a serious problem for manufacturers, especially the auto industry,” a group of German economic research institutes warned in a joint report this month. Today in Business Updated April 23, 2021, 10:07 a.m. ET The crisis has exposed not only how dependent the car industry is on a few suppliers, but also how vulnerable it is to disruptions. Supply chain managers shuddered last month when an early-morning fire knocked out production at a factory owned by Renesas Electronics in Hitachinaka, Japan, north of Tokyo. Renesas is a crucial supplier of chips used to monitor brake functioning, control power steering, trigger airbags and in many other tasks. Weather has also played a role. Storms in Texas earlier in the year temporarily forced the shutdown of three semiconductor factories. And Taiwan is in the midst of a severe drought, analysts at IHS Markit warned in a recent report. Chip manufacturing requires large amounts of very pure water. Even without a pandemic and supply chain disruptions, the auto industry is in turmoil. In the United States, sales have been basically flat since the early 2000s. Profit margins are slim. Some big automakers may not survive the shift to electric cars. “If I were a chip manufacturer I wouldn’t start investing in a new plant unless I got free money from the government,” said ManMohan S. Sodhi, who teaches supply chain management at the business school at City, University of London. Free money may be on the way. The White House held a summit on the chip shortage this month, and has proposed allocating $50 billion in infrastructure funds to reverse a decline in the share of chip manufacturing that takes place on American shores. But new chip factories can’t be built fast enough to solve the immediate shortage. And unless government subsidies persuade them otherwise, semiconductor makers and other suppliers are likely to build any new factories in or near China, which is the biggest car market and, unlike the United States and Europe, is growing steadily. It’s not at all clear how long the chip famine could last. Mr. Sodhi said that he suspected chip makers were exaggerating the shortage to pry subsidies from governments, and that the crisis could be over in a month. Auto industry consultants at Roland Berger are more pessimistic, saying the shortage could last all year. On Thursday, Ms. Delbos of Renault said “the visibility is deteriorating” for determining an end to the chip crisis, “as news is changing by the day.” In the meantime, automakers are improvising to try to minimize the damage. Daimler’s Mercedes unit is allocating scarce chips to its priciest models, like the EQS electric luxury sedan the company unveiled this month, which is expected to start at around $100,000. The triage prompted Daimler to temporarily shut down factories in Germany that produce lower-priced C-Class sedans. Most of the 18,500 workers at the plants are furloughed until the end of April, though they will continue to receive government subsidized “short work” pay. Along the same lines, Volkswagen has cut production at plants in Germany that make sedans and other internal combustion models, and one in Mexico where the company makes Tiguan S.U.V.s for the American market. But a factory in Zwickau, Germany, that produces ID.3 sedans and ID.4 S.U.V.s, the vanguard of Volkswagen’s drive to dominate the emerging market for electric cars, has not been affected, according to the company. General Motors, which has had to halt production temporarily at a half-dozen plants since the beginning of the year, has in some cases been producing cars without electrical components and parking them until the parts are available. Ford Motor said Wednesday that it would keep several U.S. plants idle longer than expected because of the chip shortage. The auto industry has been paralyzed by supply chain disruptions before. Mr. Källenius recalled an episode when a hurricane struck Puerto Rico and shut down production at a factory that, to his surprise and pretty much everyone else’s, was the only source of a coating essential to some kinds of auto electronics. Automobiles have tens of thousands of parts and so many layers of suppliers and sub-suppliers and sub-sub-suppliers that even carmakers have trouble keeping track of every component’s provenance. The economics of the industry are such that only suppliers with the highest volume survive. Smaller suppliers tend to die out because they can’t produce parts or materials as cheaply as the big players, leaving the industry dependent on one or two manufacturers of high-pressure fuel lines, for example, or a certain specialized plastic. The current semiconductor shortage may not be the last. The auto industry’s need for semiconductors is expected to explode in coming years because of autonomous driving features and the increasing popularity of electric vehicles, which are more reliant on software than internal combustion engines. Cars For Sale: South Africa’s Best
A bit of a throwback, but herewith are the semi-finalists of the 2019/20 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards – powered by WesBank.
The awards programme recognises the best purchasing propositions in the respective categories of the new vehicle market.
“Vehicle purchases are amongst the biggest that consumers are likely to make in their lifetime,” said Ghana Msibi, executive head of sales and marketing at WesBank.
“Initiatives such as this offer credible opinions on the types of cars and features available in the market, and in so doing help consumers make informed decisions when choosing a new or used vehicle,” he said.
The 13 eventual category winners will be selected from the list of 65 vehicles, which includes model derivatives from 24 brands represented in the South African market.
All vehicles available on the South African market on September 1, 2019, were eligible, not only new products that were launched during the past 12 months.
Compared with the 2018/19 Cars Awards, the executive sedan category has been replaced with one that caters for premium-positioned crossovers.
The former Hot Hatch category (now named Fun Hatch) encompasses more affordable contenders and the price caps for the Premium SUV and Performance Car segments have been raised, it said.
“It is important to note that we analyse market changes proactively and adapt the categories to be better aligned with the South African consumer,” said Cars.co.za consumer experience manager Hannes Oosthuizen.
“With no new contenders in the Executive Sedan category, as well as very poor sales in that segment, we saw it fit to create a new category (to reflect growth and interest in upmarket crossovers) instead.
“Meanwhile there have been no new launches in the traditional hot hatch category, but there has been activity at a lower price point, so we’ve created a new category called Fun Hatch.”
And given the rapidly rising prices of cars for sale in Johannesburg, Oosthuisen said that sticking to a R1-million barrier for Premium SUV and Performance Car categories is no longer practical.
Volkswagen lead the charge in 2019/2020 again.
Even though 24 brands’ vehicles feature in the list of 65, five marques have more than three semi-finalists in the running for category honours.
Volkswagen has the most representatives (8), followed by BMW (6) and Audi, which has 5, although the A1 Sportback 40TFSI S Line is notably a semi-finalist in two separate categories.
Ford (5) and Toyota (4) round out the major manufacturers.

Estes carros não serão mostrados ao mundo por culpa do coronavírus

O Salão de Genebra, na Suíça, deveria abrir as portas à imprensa na última segunda-feira (2).
Só que o país proibiu grandes eventos após casos de Coronavírus Covid-19. E, com isso, os carros que seriam mostrados pela primeira vez seguirão apenas nas fotos.
Os organizadores da mostra tentaram contornar o cancelamento com apresentações por vídeo em tempo real. Entretanto, os quase 700.000 visitantes previstos para os dez dias de público não poderão ver nenhum dos modelos de perto.
Veja os principais lançamentos que (quase) aconteceram em Genebra, mas ficaram restritos ao mundo virtual e não poderão ser contemplados ao vivo:
Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA
<span class="hidden">–</span>Divulgação/Alfa Romeo
Série especial será limitada a 500 unidades, mas ainda assim o Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio GTA (sigla para Gran Turismo Alleggerita) e sua derivação ainda mais invocada, a GTAm, tinha tudo para ser um dos maiores destaques do Salão de Genebra.
Não apenas pelo visual incrementado com aerofólio traseiro (em fibra de carbono no GTAm), caixas de roda mais largas, suspensões recalibradas (e rebaixadas) e interior retrabalhado com novos materiais e bancos tipo concha.
O Giulia GTA tem um motor 2.9 V6 biturbo de 532 cv e pesa 100 kg a menos do que um Giulia Quadrifoglio comum. E, segundo a fábrica, vai de 0 a 100 km/h em apenas 3,6 segundos, números capazes de deixar qualquer esportivo alemão com inveja.
Audi A3 Sportback

O novo A3 Sportback mudou completamente – ainda que você já não reconheça tão bem as novidades visuais dos carros da marca. Com a plataforma MQB Evo, o hatch terá opções híbrida parcial e híbrida plug-in, mas nenhuma elétrica.
Também eram esperadas para Genebra as versões esportivas S3 e RS3, enquanto o A3 Sedan continua sem data oficial para lançamento. Em relação às mudanças, o A3 Sportback terá desenho inspirado, dentro e fora, no irmão menor A1.
BMW Série 4
Concept 4 serve de base para os futuros M3 e M4divulgação/BMW
A próxima geração do BMW Série 4 deverá receber novidades importantes vindas do Série 3 – modelo que serve de base ao cupê –, como lista de equipamentos mais recheada, além de itens de segurança e tecnologias melhorados em relação ao atual.
Entretanto, é possível que o modelo receba a polêmica grade vertical antecipada no Concept 4. E, para desespero de alguns puristas da marca, é provável que a versão final mantenha o desenho do protótipo. Inclusive na parte dianteira.
Ferrari Roma

Mais recente lançamento da Ferrari, a nova Roma já havia sido revelada antes, mas faria a primeira aparição pública no Salão de Genebra. O fabricante diz que o visual é inspirado em esportivos de 1950 e 1960 – e parece um Aston Martin.

O modelo terá à disposição um motor V8 3.9 biturbo com 620 cv, sempre acoplado ao câmbio automatizado de dupla embreagem com oito marchas, capaz de chegar aos 100 km/h em 3,4 segundos e à velocidade máxima de 320 km/h.
Fiat 500e

O Fiat 500 está aposentado no Brasil, mas já retornará ao nosso mercado em 2020. E virá em grande estilo: apenas na configuração elétrica, que seria levada à Suíça nesta semana. Além do novo conjunto mecânico, todo o desenho foi atualizado.

Se ainda dá para reconhecer as proporções do modelo anterior, a empresa garante que houve muitas mudanças estruturais para permitir a instalação das baterias de 40 kWh capazes de oferecer autonomia de até 240 km ao compacto.
A boa notícia é que o 500 elétrico já teve suas vendas confirmadas no Brasil ainda em 2020.
Hyundai i20 e i30

O Hyundai i20 é o equivalente europeu ao nosso HB20. E, talvez por isso, a empresa repetiu o visual polêmico no hatch que seria apresentado em Genebra. Mas eles têm vantagem na mecânica: por lá, haverá opção híbrida parcial de 48V.

Os sul-coreanos também levariam à mostra o i30 reestilizado. Se essa geração nunca chegou às lojas brasileiras, na Europa, teve a primeira atualização. E, além do visual, o hatch ganhou novos itens de tecnologia e versão híbrida parcial.
Kia Sorento

O SUV mudou completamente e herda a identidade visual já incorporado a outros modelos da marca – como o Seltos, por exemplo. Por fora, além da já tradicional grade “Nariz de Tigre”, chama atenção o desenho das molduras das janelas laterais.

Na cabine, o Sorento oferece central multimídia com tela de 12,12 polegadas, assim como quadro de instrumentos digital com 12,3 polegadas. E ainda não há detalhes da motorização, mas é esperado o mesmo conjunto do Optima Hybrid.
Mercedes-Benz Classe E

O sedã reestilizado estrearia durante o Salão de Genebra com novidades no visual que distanciarão o modelo dos irmãos Classe C e Classe C. Na dianteira, o conjunto será inspirado no novo GLA, enquanto a traseira terá lanternas divididas.
Ainda não há detalhes do pacote de equipamentos – desde antes, o modelo já tinha sistema de condução semiautônoma – ou de motorizações. Mas é provável que haja novidades nas opções já existentes e novas versões híbridas parciais.
Porsche 911 Turbo
A geração 992 do Porsche está à venda desde 2019, mas, até agora, as configurações Turbo e Turbo S não haviam sido mostradas. E a estreia das opções mais poderosas estava marcado somente para essa semana, durante o Salão de Genebra.
De acordo com as especulações da imprensa internacional, ambas as versões terão como base o motor seis cilindros opostos 3.8 biturbo do 911 Carrera S. Entretanto, a potência deverá saltar dos 450 cv para cerca de 580 cv e até 650 cv.
Toyota SUV híbrido do Yaris

Ainda não há nenhum nome para o SUV que terá como base o Toyota Yaris europeu – e que não tem nada a ver com o nosso. Mas o fabricante já confirmou que o modelo terá motorização híbrida e sistema de tração integral sob demanda.
Pelo porte, a novidade deverá ficar abaixo do C-HR. E, por enquanto, a única imagem divulgada revelou alguns detalhes do visual. Na traseira, por exemplo, há lanternas horizontais, placa na tampa e vidro traseiro com caimento suave.
VW Golf GTI/GTE/GTD e Tiguan reestilizado

As versões esportivas do Golf foram reveladas todas ao mesmo tempo – e elas terão quase o mesmo visual, com exceção de detalhes. A versão GTI terá o mesmo motor de antes – a potência saltou a 245 cv, contra os 230 cv do antecessor.

O Tiguan também seguirá o estilo do hatch médio, com faróis espichados. Só que, diferentemente do Golf, o SUV terá grade maior e semelhante à atual. Entretanto, não há informações de mudanças mecânicas ou nos equipamentos.

10 Electric Vehicles to Watch
This was the year that Tesla’s lock on high-end all-electric vehicles began to break, with Audi and Jaguar sending electric S.U.V.s out into the world. They joined more workaday E.V.s from Chevrolet, Honda, Hyundai, Kia and Nissan.So 2019 was, finally, the year of the electric vehicle. Right?Sales of electric autos were double those from the year before, but they were still dwarfed by their fossil-fuel-powered brethren. With a slew of new models promised for next year and beyond, and with charging station infrastructure still being built out, the tipping point for electric autos is still in the future. But automakers are betting big on that future, and how quickly the industry takes off depends not just on choice but on a shift in customer expectations. Hurdles to a breakout include higher prices, the end of federal tax subsidies for some models and a paucity of charging stations — even though the industry argues that most charging will be done at home at night. That, especially, can be a deterrent given electric cars’ shorter range. Even so, as Mark Reuss, the General Motors president, recently wrote, “just as demand for gas mileage doesn’t go down when there are more gas stations, demand for better range won’t ease even as charging infrastructure improves.”That infrastructure is growing, nonetheless. More than 21,000 locations in the United States, with some 57,000 hookups, offer Level 2 charging, which can add maybe 20 miles of range per hour. These are fine for parking at the office or overnight, but useless on a road trip. For charging to roughly 80 percent of a battery’s capacity in about a half-hour, there are 3,300 DC Fast Charging locations with 12,000 charge points. Many of these are proprietary Tesla chargers, however.A traditional car, of course, can fill up at 168,000 gas stations across the country in the time it takes to buy a Slim Jim and a Coke.The evolution toward electrics has given carmakers freedom to play with design — picture Tesla’s jagged-edge pickup — while others are sticking with tried-and-true sedans and crossovers, simply swapping out the drivetrain. Here’s a look at some of the electric vehicles that are just reaching the market, will soon be available or are expected to arrive in 2021.Audi e-Tron Sportback: A four-door coupe version of the full-size Audi e-Tron sport utility vehicle, introduced last spring, the Sportback is expected to be available this spring. Designed to look and handle like traditional Audis, the e-Tron models will feel familiar to anyone who knows the brand.The all-wheel-drive e-Tron S.U.V. charges to 80 percent of its 204-mile range in 30 minutes with a commercial fast-DC charger. Improvements in aerodynamics and battery efficiency should modestly increase the Sportback’s range.BMW iX3: BMW will start production of its electric S.U.V. next year at its plant in China. The rear-wheel-drive vehicle is expected to provide 286 horsepower and a 273-mile range, according to the European test cycle, which is more optimistic than its American equivalent.Ford Mustang Mach-E: Ford enlisted its Shelby designers to create a traditional-looking electric S.U.V. that would echo its iconic Mustang sedan. Its first version, a 332-horsepower all-wheel-drive model, will be available late 2020, with a 459-horsepower GT version expected 18 months from now.The biggest changes, beyond fuel, are inside. A new version of the much-criticized Ford Sync connect service will feature over-the-air updates. Artificial intelligence will monitor a user’s habits and suggest appropriate actions. For example, it may ask if you want to call your mother at a certain time if it notices you typically do that each day.Natural language comprehension will allow users to state commands in various ways, such as “Take me to Santa Monica” or “I want to go to Santa Monica.”Mileage will range from an expected 210 to 300 miles, depending on the model. In the “frunk,” or front trunk, the space usually occupied by an engine will offer space designed to hold ice for tailgating; a drain plug will be included.Mercedes EQC 400 4Matic: Originally expected to arrive in the States next year, the first purpose-built all-electric Mercedes will be delayed until 2021, the company recently announced. It blamed demand in Europe.The all-wheel-drive vehicle, starting around $70,000, will feature its screen-based MBUX infotainment system now used in a number of new Mercedes models. To optimize the vehicle’s range, the MBUX system can calculate the most power-efficient routes and direct drivers to high-speed charging stations. Time to charge to 80 percent will be about 40 minutes with the fastest chargers.Porsche Taycan 4S, Turbo and Turbo S: The “entry level” version of Porsche’s first electric vehicle, the 4S will be available this spring, starting at about $104,000. (The imminently shipping Turbo costs about $151,000, and the Turbo S is $185,000.)The two current models — available with 522 or 562 horsepower — will accelerate from zero to 60 miles an hour in 3.8 seconds. The Taycan has a range of just over 200 miles, and it is one of the fastest-charging E.V.s around: A DC fast charger will juice it to 80 percent capacity in 22 minutes. The company expects that by 2025, half of its sales will be either fully electric or hybrid models.Volvo XC40 Recharge: To cut costs and time to market, Volvo is equipping its existing XC40 S.U.V. with an electric drivetrain. Expected at the end of 2020, for “under $48,000” after incentives, this is the start of a Volvo product road map that will bring out one new E.V. model each year.Over-the-air updates will be available for all vehicle features. The “completely rethought” infotainment system is based on the Android operating system, with Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play app store embedded within the vehicle so they work without a phone. The 408-horsepower engine is expected to provide 240 miles of range. A high-speed commercial charger will fill the XC40 to 80 percent capacity in 40 minutes.Byton: Distinguished by many enormous wraparound screens, this Chinese-built S.U.V. will be sold in the United States, at a starting price of $45,000, beginning in the second half of 2021. Sales in its home country will start at the end of next year. Drivers can alter the screen display to account for whether the vehicle is moving or not, and whether the driver or passenger is watching. Artificial intelligence is combined with subscriptions to popular music and video services, and linked via facial recognition, so it will know your favorite artists. If the driver allows, the vehicle will have access to calendar events; knowing that you’re finishing up your spin class, the system could cool the car before you arrive.Available as a 225- or 300-mile range version, the Byton will be sold directly and through dealers, with its first company store to open in Los Angeles by the middle of next year.Canoo: One of several hopeful start-ups, Canoo plans to sell its namesake model at the end of 2021. Unlike several established marques, Canoo has taken advantage of the lack of an internal combustion engine to rethink the look of a vehicle.The symmetrical Canoo is positioned as “an urban loft on wheels,” the company says, with the rear seats arranged more like a sofa. To increase interior space, Canoo eliminates the traditional engine compartment and its protective firewall. The use of “steer by wire,” an electronic rather than a mechanical system, eliminates the need for various mechanical components, also allowing for more freedom in the placement of the steering wheel.Infotainment will be provided through a smartphone connection.The Canoo, with an anticipated 250-mile range, will be available only through subscription, the price of which (undisclosed as of yet) will cover the vehicle, registration, license and insurance. The subscription can be canceled or rolled over into another model when available, at any time.Faraday Future: Once left for dead after a splashy premiere three years ago, a planned Las Vegas factory that never got built, and a Chinese founder and funder who went bankrupt, the company is back with a new leader, the former head of Byton; new funding; and a rethought vehicle.Where once Faraday Future advocated the “bring your own device” approach to infotainment now promoted by Canoo, the current version of the large S.U.V. will sport 11 screens in its ultra-high-end FF91.The company claims that the FF91 will accelerate from zero to 60 in an astonishing 2.2 seconds (although it’s not clear why anyone would need to), and cost $150,000 to $200,000 when it comes out by September. If there’s demand, the company can build up to 15,000 units annually in a Hanford, Calif., plant that’s smaller than the ambitious one it abandoned in Las Vegas.The company says it will make money at that volume by selling its hardware and software to competitors. Plans for a smaller, more affordable FF81 exist, and the company hopes to enter “preproduction” by the end of 2020.Volkswagen ID4 Crozz: VW’s first purpose-built E.V., this compact S.U.V. is due in the States by the end of 2020, priced in the mid-$30,000s after tax credits. Subaru Forester Competitors: How Other Small SUVs Stack Up
What’s the best small SUV on the market right now? We have our opinion, but there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. Consumers have differing priorities when it comes to fuel economy, cargo space, design, and other buying factors. Although not a sales leader, the Subaru Forester is a solid contender in this space, especially after its recent redesign. Find out how this underdog SUV stacks up to the segment leaders in this Subaru Forester competitor comparison.
The Competition
First of all, who are the Subaru Forester’s competitors? In this comparison, we’ll look at a diverse range of rivals, including the Jeep Cherokee, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Ford Escape, Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota RAV4, and Nissan Rogue. Along with the Forester, these models are the best-selling compact SUVs on the market. Other rivals include the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Mitsubishi Outlander, and Volkswagen Tiguan.
Performance
We’ll address this right away—the Forester is not the most thrilling SUV when it comes to performance. Although it packs a sufficient 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque from its 2.5-liter flat-four engine, it’s a little slow to accelerate off the line. In the 0-60-mph run, the quickest Forester we’ve tested came in at 8.3 seconds, which is on par with a Toyota RAV4 (8.2 seconds) and Ford Escape (8.4 seconds). It’s behind the zippy Honda CR-V (7.6 seconds), but ahead of the Chevrolet Equinox (8.7 seconds).
Some rivals offer engines that are more powerful, making them much quicker. The Cherokee, for instance, offers a 270-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine that propels the SUV to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds, and the CX-5’s optional turbo engine delivers 227 hp to hit the mark in 6.4 seconds. But to keep things even, let’s look at how the Forester stacks up with similarly powered rivals we’ve tested:

Handling and ride quality are just as important to many buyers as acceleration. In past reviews, we’ve noted the Forester is easy to maneuver, and as you can see from the numbers below, it performs well in our figure eight handling test. But subjectively, the steering feels a little disconnected. If you’re looking for a canyon carver, the Mazda CX-5 is often considered the most agile crossover in the segment, with satisfying steering. The CR-V also impresses.

Expect a smooth, pleasant ride inside the Forester. In our 2019 SUV of the Year testing, in which the Forester was a finalist, we noted, “Subaru did an excellent job keeping road and wind noise out of the cabin and providing a relatively magic-carpet ride for its class.” The crossover earned similar praise in our First Test, where we noted, “Its ride quality rivals that of more expensive vehicles wearing premium badges.” That said, the CR-V exhibits an exceptional ride quality, and we think it offers the best combination of ride, handling, and power in its segment.
Design
Functional. That may be the best way to describe the design of the Forester. It’s not a bad-looking SUV, but it doesn’t feature the soft, fluid lines of competitors like the CX-5, Equinox, and Escape. Instead, the Forester looks like a big box, a design that reaps plenty of benefits. Its upright greenhouse makes for exceptional visibility out the front windshield, and there’s gobs of headroom, too. The Forester’s shape helps it maximize interior space, but more on that later.
Even the RAV4 looks flashier, with angular headlights and a wide grille. Meanwhile, the Cherokee adopts iconic Jeep design cues that make it immediately recognizable on the road. The Forester blends in the background with few creases or interesting shapes on the sheetmetal. LED headlights come standard, adding a bit of modernity to the Subaru crossover.
The Forester won’t turn any heads, but there is a way to jazz it up. Opt for the Forester Sport, which features orange accents and badging.
Safety
The Forester comes with plenty of standard safety features. Every model features EyeSight, which bundles together adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warning, and lane keep assist. Blind spot detection with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert is optional.
Automatic emergency braking is standard on most entries in the segment, including the Forester, CR-V, CX-5, Equinox, Escape, RAV4, and Rogue. However, it’s an optional feature on the Cherokee; you can get it on higher-trim models.
The 2019 Forester was named a Top Safety Pick+, the highest award available from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2019 CX-5 and RAV4 also earned the distinction. The 2020 Escape, 2019 CR-V, and 2019 Cherokee won the lesser Top Safety Pick designation, missing out on the top award because of their headlight ratings. The 2019-20 Rogue also lost out due to its headlight rating and “Acceptable” score in the passenger-side small overlap test.
Chevrolet’s Equinox received no award from IIHS. Although it earns top scores in all crash tests, its headlights earned a “Marginal” rating, below the “Acceptable” level required for the Top Safety Pick award.
Passenger Space
The Subaru Forester offers plenty of legroom for three adults to sit comfortably in the back row, and it’s easy to get in and out because the rear doors open wider than you might expect. But if you look at the numbers, many other competitors offer more rear legroom.
However, the Forester offers a greater amount of total passenger space than most rivals. The base model is particularly spacious with 111.9 cubic feet, while other trims offer 107.8 cubic feet. Either way, it beats all its competitors in this metric, except for the Cherokee, which offers 128 cubic feet.

Cargo Space
The Forester compares favorably to other small SUVs when it comes to cargo space. By the numbers, it has the most available total cargo space of its competitors. If you keep the second row up, however, it doesn’t offer quite as much cargo room as competitors like the CR-V, RAV4, and Rogue. Unsurprisingly, Subaru designed the cargo bay with practicality in mind. The Forester’s liftgate opens wide for easy loading and unloading.

Off-Road Capability
Equipped with standard AWD, the Forester easily tackles gravel, sand, and unpaved surfaces. It has a generous 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and its approach, departure, and breakover angles are better than many of its competitors. However, we’ve found that the overly gentle engine can hinder its off-road abilities. In our SUV of the Year testing, we got stuck following a hard stop on a slushy-silt slope.
The RAV4 performs better off the beaten path than many crossovers, especially in beefier trims like the Adventure and TRD Off-Road. But the Jeep Cherokee is the true king of tough terrain. Although the Toyota performed impressively in our off-road comparison test, the Cherokee tackled a massive rock staircase, boggy waterways, and other tasks with particular aplomb. The Cherokee should top your list if you’re looking for an off-road small SUV.
Towing
If you want to maximize towing on your compact crossover, the Forester will not be your top choice. Neither will the CR-V or Rogue. The Cherokee wins this category, offering a max towing capacity of 4,500 pounds with the 3.2-liter V-6. Toyota is offering an impressive 3,500 pounds of towing on the RAV4 Adventure and TRD Off-Road, while the Equinox offers the same capability with the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine.

Reliability
J.D. Power issues an Initial Quality Study every year. Not only does it measures a vehicle’s quality at 90 days of ownership, it is also considered an indicator of long-term reliability. For 2019, the Chevrolet Equinox took the cake by recording the fewest problems per 100 vehicles. The Escape also earned high marks, along with the CR-V and Rogue. MPG
Keep in mind the Forester comes standard with all-wheel drive unlike its competitors. When you compare the Forester with AWD versions of the competition, it does very well. Delivering 29 mpg in combined city and highway driving, it’s on par with the AWD CR-V. However, the RAV4 nets 30 mpg on the AWD LE trim. If you’d rather maximize fuel economy with a front-drive crossover, take a look at the CR-V, Escape, and RAV4.

Interior Comfort
In addition to boasting plenty of headroom, the Forester greets occupants with a pleasant mix of high-quality materials. Likewise, the RAV4 benefits from an uncluttered interior design, but its cabin feels narrower than that of the Forester and CR-V, and it has less headroom than we’d like. We’ve also lamented the space inside the Cherokee, including its lack of storage cubbies near the driver. Look for generous storage space in the center console area on the extremely well-packaged CR-V.
The Equinox and Rogue are also spacious, although lower trims have a rental car feel with cheaper plastics. The CX-5 goes for a premium feel inside the cabin, particularly with the Signature model that gets real wood trim. The Escape has a simplistic design, unfortunately accompanied by some cheap-feeling materials on recent pre-production models we tested.
Infotainment and Cabin Technology
Don’t forget to play around with the infotainment system when you’re checking out a new vehicle at the dealership. Because this is an area not all small SUVs have mastered. Fortunately, the Forester’s central touchscreen features large, easy-to-read icons and responds quickly to touch commands. A 6.5-inch screen is standard, and an 8-inch unit is available. The Forester has one of the sharpest infotainment systems in its class; it may even be the best.
Another responsive infotainment system can be found on the Cherokee, which has an optional 8.4-inch screen. The Equinox gets an easy-to-use 7-inch screen, or optional 8 inch screen, with a logical arrangement of buttons underneath. The Rogue, however, has an awkward array of buttons positioned by the driver’s left knee. The RAV4’s infotainment system feels a bit underwhelming compared to others, featuring less impressive graphics and taking a while to respond.
The CR-V’s touchscreen is pretty easy to use, too, although we’ve found the gear shift kind of clunky to operate. The Escape features a rotary shifter, but the feature that really makes it stand out in its class is the available 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Price
The 2020 Subaru Forester starts at $25,505. The starting price is lower than most competitors, despite offering AWD as standard equipment. Even top-trim testers are a good value.
