In addition to a large number of cars that will be present, roughly 1.5 million spectators will join in on the fun.This year, Ford will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Woodward Dream Cruise with Mustang Alley, in addition to a wide range of special activities. On Thursday, August 15, Ford hosted the âPlaying to Win Breakfast â How Ford Icons Continues to Be a Competitive Strengthâ and the âTrack Talk â How Ford Racing Benefits the Rest of the Company Plus Reveal of a New NASCAR Mustang.â There were also live engine builds and discussions on the durability testing behind the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500.Today, Ford and JDRF announced a custom 2020 Mustang Shelby in a one-of-one paint color that will be raffled off as part of JDRFâs annual push to raise funds for Type 1 diabetes research. The build is deemed the âVenom Mustang.â There will also be a Power Lunch today with Ford performance team members, including Carl Widmann, Ford Performance chief engineer, and Tom Barnes, Mustang engineering manager. Mustangs in Cheeseland for Mustangers All Ford Car Show
The 37th Annual Wisconsin Early Mustangers All Ford Car Show will be on May 19, 2019. While the name says Early Mustangers, all models and years of Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles are welcome. It is Wisconsinâs largest All Ford Show and averages approximately 300 registered cars and over 2,000 spectators. The show fills four acres of available parking at the Ewaldâs Venus Ford Dealership. Cars from the earliest Model As to the newest Ford, Lincoln, and Mercuryâs cars, trucks, and SUVâs can be seen. The show is set up and run by Wisconsin Early Mustangers members.
Early registration (until May1) is $8 and day of show registration is $10. There are 26 show classes awards and Peopleâs Choice Award that will be presented based solely on participant voting, plus the host, Ewaldâs Venus Ford, presents an award for Dealerâs Choice. Classes range from stock and modified/customized vehicles to the Mustang Hi-Performance, Mach 1, Bullitt, Roush, Saleen, and Steeda. While most vehicles are driven to the show, they also have trailer queens and non-street legal vehicles registered. Over the years the Sprint cars, Cobras, street rods, and special interest vehicles are always something special to see.
This car show is a family friendly event, with local organizations and business providing food, beverages, and delicious treats. A DJ provides great rock and roll music and special announcements all day long. Inside the service bay you can learn more about the Wisconsin Early Mustangers, checkout the swap meet area or purchase raffle tickets.
Over the past few years we have been lucky enough to have the Ford Performance Trailer present. It provided a chance to learn about and see the new innovations Ford has to offer automotive enthusiasts. They also bring a couple of amazing new Mustangs to enjoy.
Show profits are used to award an Automotive Mechanic Apprenticeship Scholarship to an individual showing the interest and talent to become a professional mechanic. Applicants are chosen from Ewaldâs Venus Ford mechanics who apply. Recipients must maintain a set grade point average and meet the requirements for the scholarship.

First Drive: 2019 Shelby GT
Sometime during the spring of my junior year, I arrived early to my high school one Monday morning to find a Vista Blue Shelby GT sitting parallel to the front door. It was gala season, and event organizers had finagled a way to raffle the then-new 2008 Shelby GT, hood pins and all. It ended up going to the band teacher, who actually decided to opt for the $35,000 check on offer instead.
Even after the blue coupe was trailered back to the dealer, the Shelby GT persisted in my life. An acquaintance from my former school, located right down the street, muscled his way to class every morning in his Shelby. Iâve driven faster, louder, rarer, and sexier Mustangs, but Shelby GT SN197 endures in my memories.
Four states, two colleges, and more than a decade later, I get my chance at a Shelby GT. Only this time itâs a brand new model from the Las Vegas-located company, based on the 2019 Ford Mustang GT. Officially launched earlier this year at the Woodward Dream Cruise, I got a short stint in California before the public debut.
Same hero, different super suit. Given the brandâs long history, it feels odd to call the 2008 GT the âoriginal,â but there wasnât a prior Shelby package that fits in the same category. Instead of focusing on block-busting, head-warping power figures, the O.G. Shelby GT was more of a Mustang GT âPlusâ, incorporating usable performance upgrades without threatening the reign of Fordâs big-boy Mustang GT500. The 24-valve 4.6-liter V-8 breathed easier through a revised intake and louder exhaust that protruded out back beneath a modified rear bumper, pushing horsepower from 300 to 319. No gaudy, overcompensating ground-effect kit hereâthe upgraded bumper and clean front grille were improvements over stock, as was the hood and aforementioned hood pins. Shelby even tore off the rear spoiler in favor of a smooth decklid.
Chrome five-spoke Torq-Thrust style wheels filled the wells, complementing the lowered profile that was dropped 1.5-inches thanks to Ford Racing dampers and springs. Inside, a cue-ball shifter managed the five-speed transmission, sending power to an upgraded ratio in the rear, now with a 3.55 gearset.
I only go into such excruciating detail on the bygone Shelby GT to best frame the new one. I have a sneaking suspicion without the proper introduction, itâs easy to miss the point of the 2019 package, especially if youâre caught up in the crossfire of the ongoing horsepower war.
Just like the old one was built on the bones of the contemporary Mustang GT, this package is available for the present generation. Not much is done to the 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 aside from a less-restrictive Borla cat-back exhaust, but thatâs enough to boost power by 20, to 480 hp. The stock exhaust already possessed a caramel-smooth rumble, so you can imagine the Borla opens things up a little more.
Aesthetically, changes are subtle, restricted to an upgraded front fascia, new wheels, side skirts, and requisite stripes running the length of the car. In person, this is a marked improvement on the downward scowl of the regular GT, especially with the GT350-esque lower portion. Inside, each Shelby GT is outfitted with a full branding kit, extending to the dash and the headrests.
Most of my seat time was in a gold-over-white drop-top, equipped with the 10-speed automatic transmission, trickling through less-colorful traffic to meet up with Shelbyâs photo crew in Malibu, which was hard at work capturing the gold-over-black GT-H coupe for the carâs impending debut.
Even playing the role of rumbly, easy coastline cruiser, thereâs an appreciable separation from the bog-standard GT platform. Itâs a hefty car, both in size and on the scale, but it features neutral handling, even in the spandex-tight canyon roads overlooking Malibu. The wide 20-inch wheels and tires help scrub any wandering from the rear end, while Ford Performance springs and sway bars reduce roll.
Hereâs the clinch point: youâll pay $61,345 to park this car in your garage. In an age where $65,000 nets you a wrapper-fresh 707-hp Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, thatâs a tall order. However, consider Fordâs newly minted Bullitt Mustang. Like the Shelby GT, that Highland Green coupe serves as a semi-reserved aesthetic package for the Mustang, incorporating only minor changes to create a noticeably different experience. While Ford stickers the Bullitt at $47,590, youâd have to have the detective skills of Frank Bullitt himself to track down one for MSRPâthink a minimum figure closer to $55,000.
The same goes for the mighty GT350, and while thatâs on a different performance level, the Shelby GT is much more usable day-to-day. If you do have a hankering for more guts, Shelby promises us an optional supercharger kit is on its way, boosting horsepower up to 700. Look at it this way: the Shelby GT might not have the cache of the forthcoming GT500, but you can enjoy it now, and get really wild down the road.

Ford Mustang Bullitt buyers can only pick between Highland Green and Shadow Black exterior colors for their new pony car, but the Blue Oval is offering a unique Kona Blue example for an upcoming charity raffle to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The special Bullitt will be on display at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, and raffle tickets will be available there, too. The Blue Oval and the research group will sell up to 60,000 tickets for $10 each ahead of the prize drawing on November 13. In addition to being the only 2019 Mustang Bullitt in Kona Blue, this coupe will also have unique gray wheels instead of the usual black pieces. First Drive: 2019 Shelby GT
Sometime during the spring of my junior year, I arrived early to my high school one Monday morning to find a Vista Blue Shelby GT sitting parallel to the front door. It was gala season, and event organizers had finagled a way to raffle the then-new 2008 Shelby GT, hood pins and all. It ended up going to the band teacher, who actually decided to opt for the $35,000 check on offer instead.
Even after the blue coupe was trailered back to the dealer, the Shelby GT persisted in my life. An acquaintance from my former school, located right down the street, muscled his way to class every morning in his Shelby. Iâve driven faster, louder, rarer, and sexier Mustangs, but Shelby GT SN197 endures in my memories.
Four states, two colleges, and more than a decade later, I get my chance at a Shelby GT. Only this time itâs a brand new model from the Las Vegas-located company, based on the 2019 Ford Mustang GT. Officially launched earlier this year at the Woodward Dream Cruise, I got a short stint in California before the public debut.
Same hero, different super suit. Given the brandâs long history, it feels odd to call the 2008 GT the âoriginal,â but there wasnât a prior Shelby package that fits in the same category. Instead of focusing on block-busting, head-warping power figures, the O.G. Shelby GT was more of a Mustang GT âPlusâ, incorporating usable performance upgrades without threatening the reign of Fordâs big-boy Mustang GT500. The 24-valve 4.6-liter V-8 breathed easier through a revised intake and louder exhaust that protruded out back beneath a modified rear bumper, pushing horsepower from 300 to 319. No gaudy, overcompensating ground-effect kit hereâthe upgraded bumper and clean front grille were improvements over stock, as was the hood and aforementioned hood pins. Shelby even tore off the rear spoiler in favor of a smooth decklid.
Chrome five-spoke Torq-Thrust style wheels filled the wells, complementing the lowered profile that was dropped 1.5-inches thanks to Ford Racing dampers and springs. Inside, a cue-ball shifter managed the five-speed transmission, sending power to an upgraded ratio in the rear, now with a 3.55 gearset.
I only go into such excruciating detail on the bygone Shelby GT to best frame the new one. I have a sneaking suspicion without the proper introduction, itâs easy to miss the point of the 2019 package, especially if youâre caught up in the crossfire of the ongoing horsepower war.
Just like the old one was built on the bones of the contemporary Mustang GT, this package is available for the present generation. Not much is done to the 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 aside from a less-restrictive Borla cat-back exhaust, but thatâs enough to boost power by 20, to 480 hp. The stock exhaust already possessed a caramel-smooth rumble, so you can imagine the Borla opens things up a little more.
Aesthetically, changes are subtle, restricted to an upgraded front fascia, new wheels, side skirts, and requisite stripes running the length of the car. In person, this is a marked improvement on the downward scowl of the regular GT, especially with the GT350-esque lower portion. Inside, each Shelby GT is outfitted with a full branding kit, extending to the dash and the headrests.
Most of my seat time was in a gold-over-white drop-top, equipped with the 10-speed automatic transmission, trickling through less-colorful traffic to meet up with Shelbyâs photo crew in Malibu, which was hard at work capturing the gold-over-black GT-H coupe for the carâs impending debut.
Even playing the role of rumbly, easy coastline cruiser, thereâs an appreciable separation from the bog-standard GT platform. Itâs a hefty car, both in size and on the scale, but it features neutral handling, even in the spandex-tight canyon roads overlooking Malibu. The wide 20-inch wheels and tires help scrub any wandering from the rear end, while Ford Performance springs and sway bars reduce roll.
Hereâs the clinch point: youâll pay $61,345 to park this car in your garage. In an age where $65,000 nets you a wrapper-fresh 707-hp Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, thatâs a tall order. However, consider Fordâs newly minted Bullitt Mustang. Like the Shelby GT, that Highland Green coupe serves as a semi-reserved aesthetic package for the Mustang, incorporating only minor changes to create a noticeably different experience. While Ford stickers the Bullitt at $47,590, youâd have to have the detective skills of Frank Bullitt himself to track down one for MSRPâthink a minimum figure closer to $55,000.
The same goes for the mighty GT350, and while thatâs on a different performance level, the Shelby GT is much more usable day-to-day. If you do have a hankering for more guts, Shelby promises us an optional supercharger kit is on its way, boosting horsepower up to 700. Look at it this way: the Shelby GT might not have the cache of the forthcoming GT500, but you can enjoy it now, and get really wild down the road.

Mustang Memories at HQ
The Mustang Owners Association of Southeastern Michigan (MOCSM) is a huge Mustang club (duh) best known during the month of August as putting on one of the better all-Mustang shows of the year anywhere. The show is in the parking lot of Fordâs World Headquarters building in Dearborn, MI, and always happens the Sunday after the enormous Woodward Dream Cruise, which weâve also covered on this site.
At Mustang Memories youâll see an example of every year of Mustang, as well as a sprinkling of other Ford Motor Company vehicles like Mercurys, trucks, Lincolns, and everything else that came from Henryâs company, right in the shadow of his home, Deerfield Village. This yearâs show was especially memorable because of the cars and people present. Youâve no doubt already read our story about âLittle Red,â the Shelby development car that led to the California Special Mustang and was Carrollâs only Shelby hardtop, thought lost to the crusher decades ago. That car was recently found and is owned by Craig Jackson (of Barrett-Jackson) and was parked directly behind the other presumed-lost-but-just-surfaced 1968 Highland Green fastback that Steve McQueen drove in the movie Bullitt. Ford also brought out a few 2019 Bullitt Mustangs and parked them next to the original one and in the middle of a gang of roughly 60 Bullitts of every generation.
Mustang Memories also has a large vendor midway, several raffles with legit stuff provided by the club and sponsors, and a decent swap meet with parts and cars for sale. After the day-long cruise that is Woodward, Mustang Memories is a great way to unwind and relax and not worry about your Mustang overheating in traffic, and get a chance to maybe buy some parts.
