Move Us Forward: Insights from MIAS 2019
The Manila International Auto Show, held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, opened on a sunny Thursday morning last April 4. MIAS 2019, Manila’s hottest car show and automotive expo, featured dozens of automotive brands unveiling their new lineup of cars and products on it’s way into the Philippine Market. Brands like Ford, Subaru, Hyundai, Nissan, and Volkswagen, to name a few, showcased both old and new with a variety of vintage and next generation sedans, SUVs, vans, off-roaders, trucks, and hot-rods which decorated the entire expo.
Speaking of next generation vehicles, the highlight of the expo when it comes to the future of the automotive industry was Hyundai’s unveiling of not one, but two new fully electric cars: the Kona Electric and the Ioniq Electric. This is big news for the industry since this poses the question “Is the Philippines ready to go electric?”
So we went to MIAS 2019 to not only witness the unveiling of the Kona electric and the Ioniq electric but also to know more about them and to analyze the potential of the electric car market here in the country. Out team approached Hyundai for an interview about the new electric cars and we were queued to interview the President and CEO. We got in touch with Nissan to ask a few questions about the Leaf and their electric car initiative. Lastly we went to Petron in the expo to ask about the impact of electric cars to their business model. After waiting for a response from the representatives of each brands, we were met with a similar reaction. Put simply, they refused to answer any of our question saying that they were not allowed by their respective corporate departments to release any in-depth information or even talk about their electric cars or the future of electric vehicles in general. Obviously this was disappointing for us young investigative journalists who wanted answers to the simple yet pressing question. Although my team and I realized that the refusal of giving an answer was apparently an answer in itself.
The experience, though disheartening, was actually eye-opening to the subject of the prospect of electric cars in the Philippines and the relationship between the oil industry and the automotive industry. This may come off as a bold yet unsurprising statement but this would sum up my personal discovery that day in MIAS 2019.
The oil industry and automotive industry works similar to a syndicate or a cartel working hand-in-hand to maximize each other’s profits with the help of the government and unfortunately the media as well.
They work in conjunction with the government to ensure their sustained profits and share in the market through abusive laws and regulations towards gas-powered substitutes like electric cars and efficient public transport. Delaying the implementation of new government protocols for the conducive use of electric vehicles and heavy taxation of the manufacturing and distribution electric cars could possibly be proof of that.
As for the media, we personally got a first-hand look at how the media plays a role in this cartel. Brands and companies are told to refuse giving away any details and withhold information that could possibly help support the use of electric cars and alternative transportation technology. To keep the media hush hush from talking about electric vehicles while endlessly regurgitating the product benefits of their gas-fueled and smoke-belching vehicles, the public’s interest towards a sustainable future in transportation is next to none.
Given that the country has inadequate infrastructure and technology to support the widespread use of electric cars, the aforementioned industries take advantage of the country’s situation by making sure that electric cars and other substitutes to gas-powered vehicles which threaten their business are not given the conducive platform to thrive.
As scary and concerning as this analysis is [which admittedly needs further research to validate] there is still some truth to it. Unfortunately, I as a young journalist, future car owner, and citizen would still have limited power against the massive oil and automotive syndicate that runs the show. For now if our words mean little to the public and to the conglomerates that hold power, maybe our collective actions could bear better results towards a brighter, more transparent, and cleaner future.
For next year’s MIAS 2020, I personally hope that I’ll be proven wrong and see a surge in the release of many electric vehicles from multiple brand at the expo. I would definitely like to come back to MIAS to learn more, experience more, and unveil more insights about the automotive industry and the future of transportation in the country. The way I see it, the Philippines as a developing country is not a disadvantage but an opportunity for growth and the transportation industry has that power to [literally and figuratively] move us forward.

Hyundai and sister company Kia Motors announced on Tuesday that they are investing €80 million (about $90 million) in Croatian electric hypercar startup Rimac. In exchange for the investment, the Korean automakers will gain access to Rimac’s tech. They already have plans to build an electric prototype of one of Hyundai’s N brand performance cars as well as a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle by 2020. No further details about the cars were released, and it’s unclear how big a stake Hyundai and Kia received in the Croatian company. Rimac was founded in 2009, and it’s gained notoriety for developing two mind-bendingly fast hypercars called Concept_One and Concept_Two. The designs of those cars and the tech that underpins them have caught a lot of attention from the industry. British automakers Aston Martin and Jaguar have both used some of Rimac’s technology in their own limited-run EV projects (the Valkyrie and E-Type Zero, respectively), and Indian manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra is powering its Pininfarina Battista hypercar using a battery pack supplied by the Croatian company. Porsche, which has a number of its own electric vehicles in the works as part of parent company Volkswagen’s multibillion-dollar electrification push, liked Rimac’s technology so much that it purchased a 10 percent stake in the startup last year. Even fellow (and highly-regarded) European hypercar company Koenigsegg is using Rimac’s battery tech. Hyundai and Kia aren’t total laggards when it comes to electric cars. In fact, each company has put a new electric SUV on the road in recent months, and both are among the most capable — and most affordable — currently available. But those two EVs (Hyundai’s Kona and Kia’s Niro) share the underlying technology. Tapping Rimac’s tech could presumably help the two Korean automakers develop something more suitable for the high-performance demands of the cars in Hyundai’s N lineup.

Hyundai Kona SUV: Oh, Boy!
The Hyundai Kona is one of the newest contenders in the subcompact crossover SUV market.
Its rivals in the market include the Jeep Renegade, Honda HR-V, Toyota CH-R, Nissan Kicks, and Mazda CX-3.
Kona comes standard with a 147 horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. A 175 hp turbocharged engine is available as an option.
We were impressed by the Kona's peppy turbocharged engine, sporty driving dynamics, and its solid array of standard tech features.
From the armada of Cadillac Escalades invading mall parking lots across America to the millions of the car-based crossovers dotting the nation's driveways, SUVs are everywhere these days
While the idea of the SUV within the collective conscious may be that of a rugged off-roader, the vast majority of SUVs sold in the US are actually car-based crossovers. In many cases, they are nothing more than economy hatchbacks with some extra ride height.
This is especially the case for entry-level subcompact crossovers SUVs.
But, these "cute utes" have become increasingly popular thanks to the recent tidal wave of demand for SUVs.
According to data from Kelley Blue Book, the segment accounts for 3.6% of the American auto market. While it doesn't have the sheer sales volume of the compact SUVs and full-size pickup trucks, it is still a rapidly growing segment.
In 2018, automakers sold nearly 620,000 sub-compact crossover SUVs in the US that's up more than 30% over the previous year.
One of the newest additions to the segment is the Hyundai Kona SUV.
The base 2019 Hyundai Kona SE starts at R293,000 while the top-spec Kona Ultimate starts at R403,000. The mid-grade SEL and Limited trims start at R319,000 and R374,000 respectively. All-wheel-drive is available as an R20,500 option.
Here's a closer look at the 2018 Hyundai Kona.
It's the entry-level crossover SUV in Group 1 Hyundai's lineup and slots in just below the Tucson compact crossover.
Let's start with the most controversial part of the Kona. Its styling. It's quirky and unconventional. I have to admit the modern looks fit the upbeat personality of the car.
The front end is the least conventional part of the design. Even though the hexagonal Hyundai corporate grille takes up the most real estate, it's the headlight setup that receives the most attention.
The LED running lights are up top and the fog lamps are at the bottom. The actual headlamps are actually located midway between the two.
The Kona is 4.18 m long and 1.55 m tall. The Kona's side profile is highlighted by its pronounced wheel haunches and short rear overhang and it’s spiffy alloy wheels.
The rear end is also modern and a bit unconventional.
Inside, the Kona is far more conventional.
The car's interior feels well-put-together with quality materials. The 8-way power leather seats are remarkably supportive. The cabin is well designed and easy to use.
In front of the driver is a pair of clear and concise analogue gauges that flank a 4.2-inch colour information display. Lower-spec Konas come standard with a 3.5-inch display. Ultimate trim Konas come standard with this flip-up colour head-up display and is equipped with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment display. All other Kona trim levels come standard with a seven-inch unit. The infotainment system is remarkably easy and straightforward to use. The on-screen prompts mesh well with the physical buttons located around the screen.
All Kona's come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The backup camera also lives in the touchscreen.
The Kona is also available with wireless charging.
The Kona's second-row boasts ample room for two adults. There are 87.88 cm of legroom and 96 cm of headroom.
You'll find 543,68 litres of space in the back. Fold down the rear seats and capacity goes up to 1296.91 litres. Under the cargo floor is a storage tray which covers up the spare tire.
Lower trim Konas come with a 2.0 litre, 147 horsepower, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that's paired with a traditional six-speed automatic.
EPA fuel economy estimates for the AWD Turbo Kona are 11.05 kpl city, 12.33 kpl highway, and 11.48 kpl combined.
For those who want to take the Kona off-road, there is 17 cm of ground clearance.
The all-wheel-drive system comes with a locking centre differential. An uncommon sight in crossovers of its type.
The Hyundai Kona is one of the most impressive small crossovers we've driven. The turbocharged engine and dual-clutch transmission work well together, delivering its bountiful power with aplomb.
The chassis feels tight and well sorted. The torque vectoring system makes the already nimble little crossover even more capable around the twisty bits.
To say we were surprised would be an understatement. The Hyundai Kona is a seriously good little crossover.
What stood out to us was all the features one wouldn't normally find in a subcompact crossover. Features such as torque vectoring, a locking centre differential, a head-up display, and dual-clutch transmission. Hyundai certainly didn't cut corners with the Kona.
So, if you're in the market for a fun little crossover SUV, don't worry about the funky styling, the Hyundai Kona is well worth it.

2020 Nissan Rogue Sport First Test: A Redefinition of Sporty?
As I write this, we’re in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. With every browser refresh, there’s more breaking news, and the commentary online ranges from doomsday prognostications to hoax conspiracies. For many of us, sports provide an escape from the serious news of the day, but as every hour brings news of sporting event cancellations, that escape is drying up fast, leading some in the sarcastic corners of the internet to wonder if e-sports will be the only sports left. And that leads others to ask: What even counts as a sport in the first place? The 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport raises similar questions.
(Is this really the most important question of the day? No, of course not. But cars, like sports, provide a mental escape for many of us. Below, you’ll find a pandemic-free analysis of the name Nissan gave its subcompact SUV.)
Is the Nissan Rogue Sport actually sporty?
To get right to the point, no, it’s not sporty by any contemporary definition. It’s sluggish off the line (0–60 in 9.8 seconds), slow through the quarter mile (17.4 seconds at 79.4 mph), and only quick in the figure eight relative to heavy-duty pickups and off-roading Jeeps (28.6 seconds at 0.56 average g). In fact, it scores among the bottom five of all 2020 models we’ve tested in each category. Would we expect a budget-friendly compact SUV with a 141-hp I-4 and a CVT to put up blistering times? No. But we might fairly expect a vehicle with “Sport” emblazoned on the back to offer a little more athleticism than this. “Sport,” by definition, implies some level of fun, right? And cars that move quickly are fun. The Rogue Sport, at least in this respect, falls well short.
(To be fair, we haven’t tested a 2020 Honda HR-V, one of the key competitors Nissan is targeting in this segment, but a 2019 HR-V AWD Sport just barely eked out a 0.2-second edge in 0–60 and tied the Rogue Sport in the quarter mile. The 2020 Rogue Sport, meanwhile, bettered that HR-V on our figure eight.)
What does “sporty” actually mean, anyway?
“Sport,” however, is difficult to define. No, Nissan won’t beat Zion Williamson in a dunk contest any time soon. (He has the time to compete.) But on the rare occasion that I join a pickup game at the gym after work, I still like to tell myself I’m engaging in a sporting activity, even if I’ve never even touched the rim. You don’t have to reach the pinnacle to claim participation. It’s all relative. So rather than just write off the subcompact Nissan as an exercise in false advertising, I wanted to give it a chance with a shifted frame of reference.
In my real-world test driving, I found the Rogue Sport’s manual shift mode on its CVT all but pointless. Some other compact SUVs offer legitimate entertainment when shifting manually, such as the Hyundai Kona and its seven-speed dual-clutch. With the Nissan, though, it really just felt jerky and unresponsive, which is the exact opposite of what people shifting their own gears want. Acceleration for freeway entry and passing also felt sluggish, giving anecdotal support to our test team’s findings (5.4 seconds to get from 45 to 65 mph). Things weren’t looking good, no matter how far I was willing to stretch definitions. Not a bit of this is sporty. And then I hit a few twisty roads.
I don’t want to give the impression that the Rogue Sport excelled there, either. Testing director Kim Reynolds noted “a strong understeer” during his figure-eight testing, and he called it an “easy and predictable (and forgettable) car to drive.” I didn’t exactly get a chance to test the Rogue Sport right up to its limits—that’s not something I’ll ever do on public roads—but I did push it to the point where any more probably would have felt like too much, and that threshold was higher than I’d likely ever drive a car like this. I took a few sharp turns quick enough to send my phone flying into the passenger-side footwell, yet I felt pretty secure the entire time in the driver’s seat.
Was it fun? Or more to the point, was it sporty? We’re still not dunking, but if you lower the rim a few feet and suspend disbelief, you could, just maybe, convince yourself it is. I pushed the subcompact SUV as far as I felt safe going, and it remained easy to drive. It handled itself predictably. Forgettable? If not for the notes I took down immediately afterward, I probably wouldn’t remember a thing. But in the moment, with the appropriate context, and giving it every benefit of the doubt, I actually did have a little bit of fun.
And really, that’s what sports are about, isn’t it? There are competitors who reach the top of their game, those athletes we pretend to be as kids. We can’t do the things they do, and we know we never will. But sometimes, for just a moment, when we’re alone in the driveway, we can pretend. What’s the harm in that?

Data and Graphs
Data Sheets and Details
Tata Nexon EV Compact SUV
Tata Motors has shocked us. They launched a reasonably underwhelming Tigor EV in 2018. So we at PluginIndia have been questioning if they’ll take 4-5 years to develop the excessive voltage tech wanted to launch a correct EV. Meanwhile, all this time, Tata Motors fed the Mainstream media to maintain throwing gossip stories on how Tata are going to launch EVision, Tata Altroz EV and plenty of extra Electric Cars, whereas they have been secretly engaged on the Nexon EV. So it’s a shock to see the unveil of Nexon this week. Well executed, Tata! We can’t wait to check drive this and share our experiences to PluginIndia followers!
So after assembly their RnD staff, advertising and marketing staff and others we now know that Tata Motors certainly have an EV Vision for India. Tata have a separate division throughout the firm for EV’s. This EV push is coming from senior administration and we will count on a number of fashions from the Ziptron platform within the coming years.
Looking on the Specs, what stands out immediately is the vary of 300 km. Atlast the business has moved on from low vary electrical automobiles and we’re seeing very sensible EV’s now available in the market. But we nonetheless really feel that the true world vary within the metropolis can be round 250 km and on the freeway can be round 210 km. Lets see.
Liquid cooling in an EV battery is excellent information, which is sweet for Hot Indian climate situations. Our Mahindra e2o Batteries have carried out fantastically with out liquid cooling. There are e2o’s which have executed 1 Lakh km and plenty of automobiles are reaching 7 years! Although the chemistry used is LFP, which is extra tolerant to excessive temperatures.
NMC chemistry based mostly battery packs, just like the one we have now in Nexon, liquid cooling is a should. If the battery temperature is consistently maintained at say 24 levels C, then the battery will final for a very long time.
Another factor that pops out to us is the Eight years or 1,60,000 km battery guarantee, which is unbelievable! If Hyundai would haven’t supplied Eight yr guarantee on the Kona’s battery, would Tata have supplied Eight years? We do not suppose so! So, thanks Hyundai!
Also seems like with all the electrical automobiles utilizing excessive voltage programs, CCS goes to be the defacto commonplace for DC quick charging with Tata utilizing the CCS connector for AC and DC charging, similar to MG Motors and Hyundai
The car shall be obtainable for test-drive nearer to the date of launch. Delivery shall be put up launch. Launch date is but to be introduced. It is anticipated within the first few weeks of January.
The pricing will not be revealed but. Tata are accepting bookings with out revealing the value. On the opposite hand, the value of the bottom Petrol model of the Mahindra XUV300 begins at ₹ 9.27 Lakh and goes as much as Rs. ₹ 14.07 Lakh for vary topping Petrol mannequin. We consider you may pay a premium of 5-6 Lakhs for the Nexon EV in comparison with the Deisel variants. If you have a look at the wonderful savings guide on the PluginIndia website, due to ridiculously low operating prices, it can save you round 5 Lakh rupees in 5 years in the event you drive for round 15000 km per yr. So in our estimation, Rs 15 Lakhs can be a super pricing by Tata Motors. This will actually get extra folks to suppose aboiut getting an electrical car. It would present that Tata Motors needs to guide within the EV revolution and never play video games.
PluginIndia Team Opinions & Scores Kamlesh – 4.1/5
Wow Tata Motors have shocked me with the smoke screens they’ve been throwing within the media, whereas engaged on the true deal all this time. Now, after I purchased the e2o in 2013, the choice was simple. The Reva electrical car firm had a pedigree of making electrical automobiles for 10+ years, so i may belief them utterly. With the Nexon being the primary car beneath the Ziptron platform. Can Tata motors present fast service and switch round instances, in case of points within the drive prepare, cells, digital elements and so forth Having met the R&d staff, i feel they will supply good service. Rest relies on coaching offered to native groups. I’m impressed by the connectivity options. I’m nonetheless undecided if the car shall be really related – Will Tata enhance the drive prepare with updates and can the Ziptron platform get higher because the car ages? I must learn about this. All in all a promising, providing by Tata Motors that could be a recreation changer for Indian electrical car market if priced at 15 Lakhs.
Raphae – 4.0/5
The car has wonderful vary, I don’t want to purchase a second car or one other lengthy vary car, that is it. With fast charging on the freeway I’m set. It lot of house, can have 5 folks comfortably, I’ve a household of 5. Lot of boot house, can put lot of issues inside like baggages, wheel chairs, no matter we wish. That’s an excellent factor. The design aesthetic. I like the truth that they’ve built-in the design characteristic, the tri-star factor, the trip-star design all over the place. Its useful, its not simply lovely it serves a function. These are the issues that attraction to me in regards to the TATA Nexon, and the value instinctively as a result of I’m used to listening to the value of petrol autos being excessive however the second I give it some thought I do know its an excellent worth. its actually price it and I might go for it, I imply I’m wanting ahead to going for it.
Abhishek – 3.5/5
What I like in regards to the car is the Eight yr guarantee and likewise the vary. Both of them are very good. What I don’t like in regards to the car: right here is the factor, I’m a small car man and I don’t suppose we’d like extra SUV’s cluttering our congesting our already horribly polluted roads in unhealthy situation so I would favor a smaller car with the identical vary or nearly the identical vary. Also clearly the excessive worth that comes with an SUV, I might have preferred a 10 L car that can also be that’s its for me.
MG Motors ZS EV Electric SUV
MG Motors revealed their Electric SUV just lately. If you might be questioning about MG Motors or have by no means heard of them, then it’s good to learn about a Chinese state-owned automotive design and manufacturing firm headquartered in Shanghai referred to as SAIC Motor Corporation Limited. They personal the historic British car model referred to as MG.
And MG Motors India is a completely owned arm of China’s SAIC Motor, took over the manufacturing facility from General Motors at Halol, Gujarat in India in 2017. The firm has made an funding of ₹22 billion to refurbish the Halol manufacturing facility and roll out its first product, Hector, from the ability
The MG ZS EV is being introduced as a CKD unit (utterly knocked down) and shall be launched in early 2020. We once more really feel there shall be restricted numbers imported to India and the pricing shall be revealed in January. What’s placing to us, is the vary. We have info from European company – WLTP, who’ve vary examined the MG ZS EV and have achieved a 263 km freeway vary and greater than 320 km when pushed within the metropolis. That is greater than first rate vary. People who’ve been telling us that electrical automobiles haven’t got good vary, right here is an choice for you. Regarding efficiency, the facility is staggering! The MG ZS EV affords 353 Nm of torque which is corresponding to the torque supplied by Kona. Also the motor delivers peak energy of 104 kW. Compare that to our traditional e2o, which had a 19 kW rated motor – The MG ZS EV will completely have all the facility you want for these freeway journeys.
Another factor, we at PluginIndia will use kW when speaking about energy and never use the antiquated ‘horsepower’ crap utilized by ICE car web sites. Its disgusting that ICE terminologies are getting used throughout. What the hell is Horsepower? It’s kilo watts folks!
Regarding quick charging. We bear in mind Mahindra providing DC quick charging ports solely in premium variants of the e2o Plus and solely providing AC cost ports in entry degree variants. It’s simply ridiculous what Mahindra did, providing DC quick cost ports as some kind of premium characteristic in greater variants. Nowhere on the earth we have now that kind of factor. All electrical automobiles have AC and DC cost ports. And MG ZS EV helps each AC and DC charging. But they’re utilizing CCS connector for charging. For those that do not know – The Combined Charging System (CCS) is a Type 2 connector, with two further direct present (DC) contacts to permit high-power DC quick charging. For dwelling charging, you have to to put in a 7.2 kW AC line similar to within the Kona.
What has impressed us probably the most is the connectivity options. The car is a really related car. MG is providing – Battery & Range Status, Vehicle Charging Status, OTA Software Updates, Driver Analytics and extra. One touch upon the OTA software program replace we might need to know if MG will ship software program updates that have an effect on the drivetrain or will they ship OTA software program updates that have an effect on cosmetics, just like the infotainment system. Here are some examples of OTA software program replace that truly have an effect on the drivetrain
Tesla launched a brand new OTA (Over The Air) software program replace to Model S, Model X, and Model Three electrical automobiles that included a brand new software program choice referred to as “Chill Mode”. Designed to tame the throttle response on high-performance electrical automobiles for larger effectivity.
Ather Energy had an OTA replace that lowered the motor sounds
PluginIndia Team Opinions & Scores Kamlesh – 3.9/5
First of all, i do not like massive SUVs. Can’t stand them. I desire small automobiles. So this isn’t for me. I’m impressed by the connectivity options. They have above and past to supply an incredible related car. Also, I just like the totally different, regen modes of the KERS system – When i am going on highways i can scale back the regen degree and improve it within the metropolis. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration is ideal, IMO. My one huge subject, as of now, is that MG will solely promote a restricted variety of these in India.
Raphae – 3.0/5
Its a such, its a giant car. its not for me however its good for individuals who need these type of huge automobiles. Its obtained wonderful quantity of energy, I’m tremendous pleased with the truth that it’s got high at school energy and acceleration, the value nonetheless is a bit excessive for the quantity of vary I get. I might count on it to be a bit decrease. It’s obtained sufficient space for storing, it’s obtained good design options and the connectivity is superior
Abhishek – 3.5/5
Very shortly, I just like the seems fo the car, I’m not a really huge fan of huge automobiles however I do suppose this car seems very good and likewise the vary,I journey an incredible deal between Bombay and Mangalore, so I want to, if there’s any car that I might journey then it will be this car and What I don’t like is the dearth of group outreach. Not a whole lot of info has come out about this car so that’s one thing I might undoubtedly wish to see sooner or later – telematics, connectivity options, all of these issues.
Hyundai Kona Electric SUV
Hyundai made the primary transfer to promote electrical automobiles in India among the many conventional car makers after they launch the Hyundai Kona in India in mid 2019. They have offered 375 items in 2019 and have a goal of round 600 just for 2020. Initially Hyundai weren’t assured that they’ll promote the complete quota of 300 items reserved for India. But the response was unbelievable and folks throughout India have booked the Kona in good numbers and we got here to know from the staff at Hyundai that they didn’t anticipate the demand. We need to know if Hyundai are critical on EV’s for India. But given how conservative Hyundai are with promoting the Kona globally – People in USA , Europe have a 6 month to 1 yr ready time for deliveries. And then they solely obtained restricted items offered in India. We really feel that that could be a deliberate ploy to promote much less Electric Cars.
Hyundai must act. They cannot go complete 2020 and never launch even a single EV. They must get an beneath 10 Lakh small car out available in the market. The i10 electrical car can be good.
But we’re not assured. They are a traditional BIG ICE producer who has the traditional ICE Baggage. Selling EV’s shall be a battle for them as they should promote their ICE automobiles to become profitable on service. Common Hyundai, Prove us incorrect in 2020!
Coming again to the Kona – what impresses us, probably the most is the vary, we spoke to some prospects of the Kona and they’re getting 320-340 km within the metropolis per cost – with AC and ventilated seats. On the freeway, its lesser – 280-300 km. Another factor that we actually like is the Eight yr guarantee on the battery pack. This is now the business benchmark. Revolt electrical bike, Tata Nexon all supply Eight years guarantee. So what Hyundai did is sweet for the business as a complete. What is disappointing is the dearth of connectivity options in such a premium car. We spoke to Hyundai they usually stated that Telematics unit may be supplied later.
PluginIndia Team Opinions & Scores Kamlesh – 3.8/5
We obtained a chance to drive the Kona on the Buddh worldwide circuit and it was unimaginable to drive. We have by no means skilled Regen like the best way Hyundai carried out it. I really like the button gear shifters and the match and end. Lack of connectivity is a purple flag for me personally and restricted availability additionally will not be an excellent factor.
Raphae – 3.2/5
The Hyundai Kona is an aspirational car. I might like to have it however I wouldn’t purchase it as a result of that’s not my requirement. However what I really like about it it has selective regenerative breaking Three totally different modes permits me to drive in a different way throughout the metropolis, in a different way outdoors town. It’s obtained car to car charging, you may jumpier one other Hyundai Kona and cost it up and save one other Hyundai Kona if its in bother. It’s obtained very spacious comfy seats. I’ve been pushed. I’ve not pushed the car myself, however have been pushed round. its obtained unbelievable vary and for the value that type of vary and luxurious I get is unquestionably price it however it isn’t related that’s what pulls it down a bit in any other case an exquisite car.
Abhishek – 3.0/5
What I preferred in regards to the car- its an excellent wanting car, If I had to choose I might undoubtedly purchase this car and likewise the vary, it has good vary within the metropolis, good vary on the freeway. What I don’t like in regards to the car – its the value I really feel that for the value they’re charging they don’t seem to be providing sufficient options specifically contemplating that they’ve a excessive finish variant obtainable overseas and likewise what I don’t like is the dearth of connectivity options.
Mahindra 2019 eVerito Sedan
The eVerito was proven manner again in 2014, when Chetan Maini was nonetheless on the helm! And to see that the eVerito is promoting very nicely within the fleet phase and has progressed to a reliable fleet car. That is a superb factor. It is the one huge success story for Mahindra Electric since they bought the Reva Electric Car firm. Having met Mr Maini, his staff and all of the fantastic folks from that firm, we really feel Mahindra simply misplaced all that they had. They may have been leaders in Electric Mobility by 2020. They had a 10 yr headstart over different ICE car makers after they acquired Reva. But inner politics, letting go of REVA administration, not focussing on Chetan Maini’s imaginative and prescient and completely no EV imaginative and prescient has led to this case. If Chetan Maini was on the helm, we might have seen expertise facilities with at the least 5 electrical car choices by now. Just think about. What a misplaced alternative.
Anyway the previous prior to now what impressed me most in regards to the 2019 eVerito is the improved vary of 150-180 km. We visited BluSmart in Delhi and their operators there have been pleased with the efficiency of the car. What will not be cool is the dearth of connectivity supplied with the eVerito. If you’re a fleet, you get Fleet administration options together with connectivity are offered individually. If you might be a person – good luck. And what’s disastrous is that 2013 e2o was extra tech savvy than the 2019 eVerito.
At greater than 13 lakhs for a person purchaser, we really feel this car is overpriced as ####! We know the price of a 20 kWh battery pack, and different digital elements. This is the problem with legacy car makers. ICE automobiles generates income for sellers and car makers each time the car is serviced. EV’s do not generate income for them, so including few lakhs to the sticker worth will give them that income. That is what we have now been observing and its terrible 😐
PluginIndia Team Opinions & Scores Kamlesh – 3.3/5
The 2019 Mahindra eVerito is an honest electrical car. The fleet firms are getting dependable numbers when it comes to vary and efficiency. But that’s what this car is supposed to be a fleet car or a chauffeur pushed car. For a person, which this score is for, the car is simply too expensive at 13 Lakhs and with no connectivity options, i’d not advocate it.
Raphae – 2.9/5
Mahindra 2019 Edition I drove within the earlier model of this car and it was actually comfy. I discover that it is a nice household car, an excellent chauffeur pushed car, its an excellent car for fleets. Personally would I purchase it? If I didn’t have an choice I might. Personally I might go in for just a little bit extra sportier nonetheless having stated that this car doesn’t have that a lot of a variety and for the value its actually costly it doesn’t supply as a lot consolation both. It has nice boot house however for that I wouldn’t pay a lot cash for. So I want to mark down just a little bit. Great for fleets, however not so good for people proudly owning to the dearth of connectivity the dearth of options, the dearth of every thing.
Abhishek – 2.5/5
What I preferred in regards to the car- its an excellent wanting car, If I had to choose I might undoubtedly purchase this car and likewise the vary, it has good vary within the metropolis, good vary on the freeway. What I don’t like in regards to the car – its the value I really feel that for the value they’re charging they don’t seem to be providing sufficient options specifically contemplating that they’ve a excessive finish variant obtainable overseas and likewise what I don’t like is the dearth of connectivity options.
Tata Tigor ER Sedan
The Tigor Electric Sedan was launched for fleets in 2018 and likewise made obtainable for Individuals in mid 2019. Unfortunately the vary was severely missing and many shoppers gave damaging suggestions that they might solely get 95 km per cost. This resulted in Tata Motors appearing and have upgraded the mannequin which now affords 140-160 km actual world vary. Again fleet firms like this and the brand new Tigor is doing nicely. Amit, Kamlesh and Farah drove the 2019 Tigor they usually actually may really feel the improve. This car shall be unbelievable for fleet homeowners and shall be an incredible chauffeur car. We really feel the Tigor is the prettiest electrical car within the record we have now right here. The Coup design actually stands out good amongst all the electrical automobiles obtainable within the Indian market.
Again just like the Mahindra eVerito, at greater than 13 lakhs for a person purchaser, we really feel this car is overpriced as #### What Mahindra does with the eVerito, Tata does with the Tigor! Same pinch no double pinch!
PluginIndia Team Opinions & Scores Kamlesh – 3.2/5
Same factor, as what i stated for the eVerito applies right here. Great for fleets, common expertise and horrible pricing for Individual.
Raphae – 3.0/5
My opinion in regards to the Tata Tigor is that its simply the identical because the Mahindra e-verito. It has DC quick Charging, its obtained no app connectivity, its a chauffeurs car, it seems fairly I might admit that.
Abhishek – 3.0/5
What I like about it – its an honest EV sedan. It seems good and it has first rate quantity of vary. What I don’t like is after all the value and lack of connectivity options. Same factor, as what i stated for the eVerito applies right here. Great for fleets, common expertise and horrible pricing for Individuals
Indian Electric Car Industry – So what must occur in 2020? The greatest downside is lack of alternative, in relation to Electric Cars. Indian public are prepared to simply accept charged commuting. But BIG ICE are slowing the EV push. To resolve that, this has to occur.
Indian BIG ICE car makers must develop a pair and begin having EV’s of their portfolio. The lack of any kind of EV push from these firms is hurting our cities as increasingly more persons are shopping for dangerous petrol automatics and diesel SUV’s that trigger extra hurt than good.
The authorities must implement to all producers to have atleast 1 EV in thier portfolio, else pack your baggage. This will get the likes of Maruti to get onnboard.
EV conversions must be inspired. Its unhappy that FAME 2 subsidy will not be obtainable for EV conversion kits. We hope they’ll get on this record throughout our summer season Electric Car Buyers Guide.
CCS based mostly DC quick charging stations must be carried out in our highways as most automobiles will go CCS and our GB/T based mostly connectors wont work.
The ball is within the business’s court docket. If BIG ICE simply launch a token EV to realize PR with the intention of promoting solely air pollution inflicting ICE automobiles, these firms shall be discovered. They mustn’t see EV’s as a risk however a chance.

The Kona is Hyundai’s first small SUV. Released in 2017, with a focus on a youth audience, it makes sense that the Kona is available in an array of vibrant colours.
The Kona (which, by the way, is named after a region of Hawaiian coast) has had a meteoric rise since its launch in late 2017, and is now the sixth most popular small SUV, commanding almost 10 per cent of all sales in the segment.
It received a mild update for the 2019 model year, which introduced a new base-model Go variant.
While many colour options are available, the choices are limited by the grade of Kona chosen.
In total, the Kona is offered in nine shades: ‘Acid yellow’, ‘Blue Lagoon’, ‘Ceramic blue’, ‘Chalk white’, ‘Dark knight’ (grey), ‘Lake silver’, ‘Phantom black’, ‘Pulse red’ and ‘Tangerine comet’ (orange).
‘Tangerine comet’, ‘Dark knight’, ‘Pulse red’ and ‘Acid yellow’ are only available on the top two grades, the Elite and Highlander.
Meanwhile, ‘Lake silver’ replaces ‘Dark knight’ on the lower Active and Go grades. All colours except for ‘Chalk white’ are optional across the range.
Only the Highlander can be optioned with a ‘Phantom black’ contrasting roof with every colour except for ‘Dark knight’. Optioning the two-tone roof comes at no cost but removes the Kona’s sunroof. This means the Highlander is available in a total of 22 colour schemes.
Common colours not available on the Kona are brown, green, pink or purple. Unusually, there is also no light silver shade.
Hyundai tells us the most popular colour for the Hyundai Kona so far is ‘Chalk white’ which this year makes up almost 30 per cent of new Kona sales. As the Kona is a relatively new model, there are no discontinued colours yet.

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe Nails the Crossover Game and Looks Good Doing It
Hyundai's popular midsize crossover is striding into its 19th year and firing on all cylinders.
The Hyundai Santa Fe is now 19 years old, if you can believe it. It was new in 2019 for a fourth-generation with a better-looking and now corporate face. Hyundai’s plan was to make it feel more like an SUV, and I think they’ve succeeded. The Santa Fe XL is still on sale at Group 1 Hyundai, according to the consumer website, but this car is really bordered, sizewise, by the bigger Palisade and the smaller Tucson in the company stable.
2020 Hyundai Santa Fe Specs
Drivetrain: 2.4-liter I4, eight-speed automatic, AWD
Output: 185 hp @ 6,000 rpm; 178 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm
Curb Weight: 3,735 lb
Fuel Economy (EPA City/Highway/Combined): 21/27/24 mpg
For 2020, the Hyundai Santa Fe moved a few features around. Limited trims get standard blind-spot monitors and premium door plates; blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and safe exit assists moved from standard equipment to SEL trim and above; wireless charging is standard on SEL with the convenience package, and dark chrome trim is standard on all but the Limited trim.
The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe gets either a 2.4-liter I-4 making 185 hp and 175 lb-ft and the 2.0-liter turbo I-4 making 235 hp and 260 lb-ft.
The Hyundai Santa Fe is the right size for my current, four-person family. The big sellers in the category are the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback and Ford Edge, but this might be the best looking of the bunch. I like the new face of the brand that’s now also on the Kona, Venue and Palisade though I can see it being polarizing.
As for ride and handling, the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe was fine. Bumps were well muted and control was relatively direct. I do remember driving it into some DEEP water on the first drive, like 20-some inches, and made it out.
The 2020 Santa Fe's HTRAC all-wheel-drive system, available on all trims, defaults to front-wheel drive until slip is detected. Then it can send up to 50 percent of the power rearward. In sport mode, it starts at 65 percent front, 35 percent rear and varies from there.
Hyundai Tucson too small? Palisade too big? The 2020 Santa Fe sits right in the middle.
The 2020 Santa Fe interior is as ergonomic as you can get with knobs for climate and volume and tuning, cupholders that are next to the gear shift, and not behind it, and, well there’s a tacked-on looking screen on top of the dash that I don’t love, but it is easy to sneak a look at while driving without taking your eyes too far off the road.
Our 2020 Santa Fe Limited comes standard with leather seats, dual climate control with four-way lumbar adjustment, ventilated seats along with heat and memory, the 8-inch nav screen, surround view monitor and a few other things.

2019 Mazda CX-3
The 2019 Mazda CX-3 ranks near the top of the subcompact SUV class because it offers arguably the sportiest performance in the class. However, many rivals offer more space for passengers and cargo. Read More by #franciscocortescars at http://franciscocortes.info
Is the Mazda CX-3 a Good SUV?
The 2019 Mazda CX-3 is a good small crossover. In fact, its solid combination of quality and value made it a finalist for our 2019 Best Subcompact SUV for the Money award. Subcompact SUVs are not generally known for their engaging driving dynamics, but the CX-3 is an exception. It’s one of the strongest performers in its class. Its strong brakes, agile maneuvering, responsive steering, and thrifty fuel economy make it a joy to drive. Additionally, the CX-3’s handsome cabin is made with quality materials, and this little SUV offers a long list of features. However, the rear seats and cargo hold are tiny.
Should I Buy the Mazda CX-3
The CX-3 should be on your shortlist if you’re interested in a subcompact SUV. It’s priced competitively and offers one of the most dynamic driving experiences in the class. However, shoppers seeking more room for passengers or cargo would be better off with the Honda HR-V, while those wanting more features, such as standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto or available wireless charging, might like the Hyundai Kona.
Should I Buy a New or Used Mazda CX-3?
The 2019 CX-3 belongs to a generation that debuted for the 2016 model year. There were no major updates to the 2017 CX-3, but the 2018 model received an updated suspension and low-speed automatic emergency braking, as well as available features such as a heated steering wheel and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. For 2019, Mazda lightly refreshed the CX-3, giving it a little more horsepower, a lightly restyled exterior, and front and rear center armrests. Additionally, safety features were spread through the lineup – including newly standard blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert – so shoppers interested in a suite of driver assistance technologies are no longer limited to the uplevel Grand Touring trim.
That said, you can potentially save a lot of money by shopping for a used CX-3. If you're interested in an older CX-3, be sure to visit our overviews of the 2017 and 2018 models. Also, check out our Used Car Deals page to learn about savings and discounts on used vehicles.

The Pros and Cons of Moving With the Hyundai Kona
Hyundai says the Kona SUV is “smart on space.” In prior updates, we’ve confirmed it has a surprising amount of versatility for its size. Recently, though, my wife and I put it through its toughest test: moving an entire apartment.
When we signed a lease on a new home only 1.5 miles away from our current apartment, we thought it would be a good idea to just move all our stuff ourselves and not rent a moving van. The Kona should be able to handle almost everything we have except the mattress, right? The back seats fold flat, creating an impressive 45.8 cubic feet of cargo space.
At first, I thought that initial assumption would prove correct. We had a few larger pieces of furniture that would require a truck—our long-term Ram 1500 handled that, though an actual moving van would’ve been more convenient—but for smaller furniture and boxes, the Kona seemed sufficient. But as we transported load after load, we realized the stacks of stuff in the old apartment didn’t seem to be getting much smaller.
After a few days of watching the pile dwindle slower than desired, we realized the Kona’s limitations. Sure, it’s smart on space—for single trips. But when you have a lot to move, it doesn’t matter how smartly 45.8 cubic feet are packaged. Sometimes you simply need more space, and in this respect, my wife’s 2008 Honda CR-V outclassed my 2019 Hyundai Kona. No surprise there; it has almost 60 percent more total cargo volume, albeit without a flat load floor. Sometimes small, smart packaging is better than simply big. But when you just have to get things moved as quickly as possible, size does matter. Not that I would expect anyone to buy a Kona for regular use as a moving vehicle, but if, say, you need a vehicle that can pull double duty as personal city transportation and a delivery vehicle for your furniture repair small business, you’d be wise to also look at options a step up in size.
One more point in the Kona’s favor, against both the old CR-V and the new Ram 1500 (a competitive set no one will ever shop): its backup camera. When you’re packing boxes to the roof, you’re going to have quite a few blind spots. All new cars sold in the U.S. are required to have backup cameras now, but not all cameras are created equal. When creeping out of a driveway and hoping no cars are coming, a camera with a wide view is better; it gives you a bit more time to hit the brakes if a car is coming up in your box-filled blind spot. Personally, I found the Kona’s camera worked better in this regard than the Ram’s, though that likely depends on the exact nature of your load and the specific blind spots you’re navigating. My wife’s CR-V, on the other hand, predates mandatory cameras by a decade. We have an aftermarket unit from Pioneer that generally gets the job done, but it pales in comparison to the OEM offerings from Hyundai and Ram.

New Post has been published on https://www.rkcars.my/2020-hyundai-venue-a-new-entry-level-crossover-suv/
2020 Hyundai Venue: A New Entry-Level Crossover SUV
Hyundai has been hustling to expand both the breadth and quality of its SUV lineup, and it’s now introduced the 2020 Venue, an all-new entry-level crossover at the 2019 New York Auto Show. It’s even smaller than the brand’s subcompact Kona but shares its chunky and chiseled good looks, including—at least in upper trims—having a similar grille, LED lights, and cuboid headlights. The Venue is the seventh model to join Hyundai’s SUV lineup, which was recently topped off by the eight-passenger Palisade.
Under the hood, a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine works with a six-speed manual or a CVT automatic. Hyundai predicts as high as 33 mpg on the highway—we’re assuming that’s with the CVT—but no other fuel-economy details have yet been released. Nor, for that matter, has Hyundai stated the engine’s output, but figure it’s not going to be a powerhouse. Similarly, there’s no mention of all-wheel drive; the Venue is front-drive only, with Hyundai touting a Snow powertrain mode to help in inclement weather.
The little ute is fitted with standard (and presumably steel) 15-inch wheels, while optional 17s aluminum wheels are available. It’s available in eight shades: Black Noir, Ceramic White, Steller Silver, Galactic Gray, Scarlet Red, Intense Blue, Green Apple, and Denim. While interior choices are for the most part limited to gray or black cloth, the Denim paint can be paired with a denim-colored cloth and leatherette interior and a white roof. Other options include two-tone color options for the roof, mirrors, and various trim.
The Venue measures 158.9 long, 69.7 wide, and 61.6 inches tall, and has a wheelbase of 99.2 inches. For reference, it’s 5.1 inches shorter in length and 1.2 inches narrower than the Kona. Even so, according to Hyundai, total interior space is 111 cubic feet, only 3 shy of the Kona. With the rear seats up, cargo space is nearly the same at 18.7 versus 19.2 cubic feet, although space is more pinched with the 60/40-split seats folded, at 31.9 cubes against the Kona’s 45.8. A dual-level cargo floor allows for larger items when in the lower position or provides a handy out-of-sight stowage space when placed higher.
The driver grips a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the Venue offers heated front seats and side mirrors, two USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, and an 8.0-inch color screen audio system that’s Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible. Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant functionality is part of Hyundai’s Blue Link system, through which app you can now remote start the car including activating the rear-window and side-mirror defrosters, if equipped. Standard safety goodies include forward collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, driver-attention warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.
The Hyundai Kona starts a hair under $20,000, and the company says the Venue will be its most affordable. Pencil in $18,000 or so to start for the Venue, which arrives at dealerships in the fourth quarter of this year.
