PHOTO of the day | January 22, 2018 | acidentallywesanderson | City Hall | Charleston, South Carolina | 1804 • The City Hall building in Charleston, South Carolina was constructed between 1800 and 1804 in the Adamesque style • 1800 the City Council conveyed this parcel to the Federal government for the purpose of erecting "an elegant building" that would serve as a branch of The First Bank of the United States and Charleston's branch was one of eight in the country, serving as the Office of Discount and Deposit • In 1811, the bank's charter was revoked by Congress, after which the property was conveyed back to the City of Charleston and became City Hall in 1818 • The design is attributed to Charlestonian Gabriel Manigault, an architect credited with introducing the Adamesque style to the city after studying in Europe • The white marble trim is believed to have originated in Italy before it was cut in Philadelphia, and the original red brick walls offered a striking contrast to this marble trim before the walls were covered with stucco in 1882 • The site was originally set aside as a public market within the Civic Square of the Grand Modell, the 17th-century plan of the city. A beef market stood here from 1739 until it was destroyed by fire in 1796 • This central intersection is now called "Four Corners of the Law," as the four buildings surrounding it reflect four arms of law-ecclesiastical, state, federal and City Hall's municipal law • The council chamber on the second floor remains the center of city government and City Hall is one of more than 1400 historically significant buildings within the Charleston Old and Historic District

Just Enough no more
I will try to put up a daily two things I am thankful for. Either that, or my own musing on my life. I really fucked up this time.
All my life, I was a master of the “Do JUST enough.” I did barely enough to enter a good highschool, I did barely enough to scrap into an alright junior college. All the schools I scored for were never my first choice- they were an arbitrarily judged MINIMUM of my parents. They find so-and-so score minimally alright and so I do just enough to score for that.
That was how I hopped, skipped and jumped my way into the schools of my parents’ minimal choice.
I did the same for university and scrapped into university into Electrical Engineering.
Semesters after semesters, I barely passed or just failed the course. I skipped lectures, tutorials, quizes and finals.
I think something in me just gave up. I escaped into the world of computer games. The funny thing was I never had that much fun in games. I never truly enjoyed myself. Games were my way of escaping from this reality in which nothing has a purpose. Games were something like a puzzle, a puzzle as devious as higher mathematics but better designed to retain attention.
I actually got academically terminated.
I will probably get back in through my appeal, where it will finally be my last chance to show I deserve my degree.
No more. I shall prove to myself, if no one else, that I am capable of hard work, capable of straight As.
I have fucking enough of me being the lacklustre student I was. Please, if there is a higher power up there, bless me with the most important talent of all- hard work.
