Telematics: emergency backup battery renewal
The manufacturer recommends a planned renewal of the telematics battery, and has included this in the maintenance schedules. For this renewal you will need to know where the battery is located. The technician will need a manual for the procedure.
Where disconnecting the battery (working on a vehicle) also requires disconnection of the Telematics unit, this information will be added to our ‘Battery: procedures for disconnection/reconnection’ manuals.
Comfort Wiring Diagrams update
The wires within the comfort wiring diagrams are now shown in their actual colours by default (Monochrome is still available if preferred for printing)
Jacking and Lifting points
Recent European research has focused on reducing injuries associated with lifting vehicles. For electronically complex vehicles, with battery packs located in the vehicle floor, detailed information is required to prevent injury or damage. An overview of the jacking and lifting points, now displayed within our product, will make it easier for the technician to identify any special requirements for the location of the jack and/or the lifting points.

Lexus LS+ Concept revealed at Tokyo
Dan Smith 2017-10-25 09:20 The flagship luxury Lexus LS+ Concept saloon features more autonomous technology and AI input ahead of a potential production 2020 debut Lexus has presented a concept variant of its LS luxury saloon called the LS+ Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. The LS+ Concept showcases the Japanese marque's AI-derived autonomous driving technology. One of the AI’s autonomous features is Highway Teammate that has the ability to drive on the motorway from slip road to exit in fully autonomous mode without any input from the driver.  Image 6 of 11 Image 6 of 11 This feature is an addition to the already autonomous-filled production LS set to go on sale in 2018, which will gain from features such as automated merging, lane changing and lane keeping on motorways. • All the latest from the Tokyo Motor Show 2017 Thanks to the AI technology featured on the LS+ Concept, software updates can be downloaded directly to the car so the driver can benefit from all-new features such as information on surrounding areas. This helps grow the car’s brain so to speak and makes driving become less of a chore. Image 2 of 11 Image 2 of 11 Style-wise, the LS+ boasts Tron-style lighting on either side of the front grille underneath the headlights to distinguish it from the standard LS saloon, as well as bigger and more dramatic wheels. One bar LED taillights is another unique design feature.  The LS+ Concept was announced alongside a range of Lexus ‘F’ models to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Lexus’ performance offshoot with the launch of the IS F back in 2007. The RC coupe and GS saloon will get a limited edition F overhaul with only 50 examples of each to be made for the Japanese market only. What do you think of the Lexus LS+ Concept? 2021 Lexus LS Lands in Japan, Portends U.S.-Market Changes
Lexus has updated its flagship LS sedan for the Japanese home market—so while it’s not exactly the model we’re sure to be sent soon, it offers a good preview of the forthcoming refreshed U.S.-market LS luxury four-door. Of note, the LS is not an all-new model, but rather the sort of honing of an existing product typical of a mid-cycle update.
The LS’s changes may be minor, but Lexus’s focus on details, particularly the interior materials (and the techniques used to create those materials) is so specific that you’d think the automaker was honing a traditionally-made katana. Speaking of, we sure hope Lexus is using a (rhetorical) katana to slice some of the rough edges off of the LS, which has given us mixed messages of late. Is it a luxury car or a large, luxurious sport sedan? The last time we drove it, it seemed like its engineers weren’t quite sure which way to go, and put out a product that accomplished neither task particularly well. Let’s take a closer look at the refreshed LS and see if Lexus has cracked the code on what its big, sleek sedan should be.
2021 Lexus LS: Handling and Suspension Changes
Much of our ire has been directed at the F Sport suspension, which we last experienced on our 2019 Car of the Year–contending 2018 Lexus LS test car. The setup makes the big sedan impressively agile but “ruins the magic-carpet ride of past Lexuses, allowing impacts to harshly penetrate the cabin,” as we put it previously. We also felt the F Sport trim was more performative than performance-oriented, attempting to impress the driver with a very palpable switch between suspension modes rather than optimal suspension tuning in every mode.
It seems possible that Lexus engineers heard these complaints because the refreshed Japanese model features revised Adaptive Variable Suspension. The refined system reduces damping forces but increases the stiffness and roll bar rigidity, which should provide similar handling with less harshness from big bump impacts. It’s likely the U.S. model will adopt this overall change, but with a unique specific calibration tailored to our (largely messed-up) roads.
2021 Lexus LS: Engine and Drivetrain
Japan will still get two powertrain options, denoted by the LS 500 and LS 500h badges, and they’re largely the same as before. The 500h hybrid’s electric motors get slightly more battery assistance during acceleration, while at the same time reducing its gas engine’s revs when setting off from a stop. The overall effect should reduce noise and vibration from the 3.5-liter V-6.
Meanwhile, the twin-turbo V-6 found in the LS 500 gets similarly incremental tweaks. Lexus says it increased torque slightly at speeds seen in normal driving for better throttle response and tweaked shift timing on the transmission to reduce the incidence of downshifts.
Engineers also redoubled efforts to tune the Active Noise Control and Engine Sound Enhancement (Lexus terms for noise-canceling and artificial engine noises sent into the cabin, respectively) to make each better. We’d complained in the past about the LS 500’s artificial noise enhancement, in particular. Sounds like Lexus took our feedback to heart.
All of these revisions seem common-sense and easily implemented, and we have no reason to think they won’t percolate over to the U.S.-market LS.
2021 Lexus LS: Interior and Exterior Design
Here’s where things get a little trickier. The exterior design should carry over from Japan to the U.S. with only minor changes—and more to the point, the exterior design changes are slight. A character line in the front bumper has been changed, and some chrome trim in the taillamps switches to piano black. Nothing groundbreaking there.
Inside, accent panels get a new look called “Nishijin & Haku,” which delivers the visual effect of moonlight on ocean waves. Turning a poetic image into a uniquely patterned material is just about as Japanese as things get in the car world. And outside, there’s a new paint color called Gin-ei Luster, a metallic silver finish that Lexus claims is smooth and mirror-like, to accentuate the curves of the LS’s sheet metal. There’s no word as to whether either element will make it Stateside.
2021 Lexus LS: Technology and Safety
Without specific information about the U.S.-market LS, there’s little guarantee that any of the LS’s new safety tech will make it here. For one, the LS gets the adaptive high-beam headlight system first seen on the 2020 Lexus RX. We already know this system isn’t yet available in the U.S., so consider it unlikely, for now. More importantly, the LS welcomes a touchscreen infotainment system to its cabin. No longer must users resort to fiddling with the brand’s finicky touchpad controller when interacting with the car’s 12.3-inch center screen.
The same goes for the car’s so-called Teammate system, a driver assistance suite that includes automatic lane-keeping and allows the vehicle to follow others and complete lane changes, and overtake slower traffic on roads supported by the system. Teammate also includes an automated parking system. We don’t expect to see this system here, but we’re interested to learn how it operates in regions where it’s supported—first in Japan, and later in unspecified other markets.
2021 Lexus LS: On-Sale Date and Pricing
Since Lexus’ latest communication doesn’t cover our market, we’re not sure exactly what to expect for the next LS we can buy here. But a company representative tells us that U.S.-specific information will drop later this summer, including feature content and an on-sale date, at which point we’ll know how much of the JDM LS trickles over to our model.

2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class spy shots and video
https://bestcaritems.com/?p=6533&utm_source=SocialAutoPoster&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Tumblr Prototypes for Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation S-Class have been spotted again. The car is expected to debut at the 2019 Frankfurt auto show and should be in showrooms in 2020 as a 2021 model. From earlier test mules, we know the general size and proportions will match up with the current model but there will be a slightly wider track and it also looks like the hood will be lower and longer. This should give the car an impressive stance. The current Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the W222, was introduced for 2014 and immediately rocketed to the top of the sales chart. The six-figure sedan racked up more than 100,000 sales in its first year and that was before the arrival of additional body styles such as the two-door cars and extra-long Maybach and Pullman. It’s clear the new S-Class has some big shoes to fill. Luckily for it, it will adopt a new platform, in this case Mercedes’ MRA design for rear-wheel-drive cars. The current S-Class rides on an updated version of its predecessor’s architecture. It’s hard to gauge what Mercedes has in store for the new S-Class this early out. The current model just received its mid-cycle update for 2018 so understandably Mercedes is shy to talk about the next one. We already know a few things, however. 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class spy shots – Image via S. Baldauf/SB-Medien Every powertrain will be electrified, either with mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid technology, and most engines will either be a 3.0-liter inline-6 or 4.0-liter V-8. It’s not clear if there will be an electric version as Mercedes is working on a large electric sedan under the EQ sub-brand. But getting back to the new S-Class, there will also be much more advanced self-driving systems, including perhaps a Level 3 system. This is where the car can handle its own in certain situations, leaving the driver free to do other things. However, the driver will need to be ready to take back control at a moment’s notice. Audi has already introduced such a system in its latest A8, though it isn’t available in the U.S. due to a lack of regulations. A shot of the interior also suggests that Mercedes may ditch the current dual-screen digital dash of the current S-Class in favor of a single-screen unit for the new model. 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class spy shots – Image via S. Baldauf/SB-Medien We also expect Mercedes to offer the next S-Class in multiple body lengths, from a short wheelbase right up to the extra-long Pullman. However, there’s a good chance the current S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet will be phased out. A roomier next-generation SL-Class with 2+2 seating is expected to fill the void. S-Class rivals include the Audi A8, Bentley Flying Spur, BMW 7-Series, Genesis G90, Jaguar XJ and Lexus LS. Stay tuned for updates as development continues. Via MotorAuthority

2019 Cadillac CT6 2.0 First Test: Plain Luxury
The 2019 Cadillac CT6 is living on borrowed time. But before General Motors discontinues it along with five other cars, we wanted to see what the updated luxury sedan has to offer with its new turbo-four base engine. Mostly unchanged since its introduction, the big Caddy is an alternative to the usual full-size luxury suspects such as the Lexus LS, but it’s priced like a midsize sedan. However, there’s more to an aspirational premium vehicle than value; it must distinguish itself, appealing to the heart as much as it does to the mind, especially in today’s crossover-obsessed world.
The first thing you’ll notice about the 2019 Cadillac CT6 is its massive footprint. Thankfully, the exterior dimensions translate well once you get inside. The cabin is airy with large windows, excellent visibility, and enough room for you to cross your legs in the rear seat, perfect for long stints on the road. Although there are many soft, squishy surfaces, there’s an equal number of components right out of the GM parts bin, such as the turn signal and wiper stalks, putting the CT6’s fit and finish a notch below cars like the Lexus LS and BMW 7 Series. Additionally, the dash layout is dated, and the gloss black plastic trim is a magnet for dust and fingerprints.
Cadillac’s CUE interface is better than its earlier iterations, but to operate the haptic feedback buttons, you’ll have to take your eyes off the road. Features you interact with frequently such as media, navigation, climate controls, and radio are integrated within the 10.2-inch touchscreen but require you to go into multiple submenus and lack redundancy. Thankfully, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are well integrated, and it only takes a step or two to change what’s playing via voice commands. An optional 34-speaker Bose Panaray audio system rounds out the multimedia experience, but like many Bose units, it’s bass-heavy and muddled at lower volumes.
At the track, the 2019 CT6 sprinted to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds and finished the quarter mile in 15.7 seconds at 89.2 mph. That’s 1.1 seconds slower than a 2017 model we tested to 60 mph and a second slower in the quarter mile. The culprit is GM’s new 2.0-liter turbo I-4, which is down 28 hp and 37 lb-ft of torque versus the outgoing unit. Power delivery is smooth, and turbo lag is minimal; however, the new engine is barely adequate for a 3,930-pound car like the CT6. The 10-speed automatic is also poorly calibrated; in typical GM fashion, it shifts quickly but immediately goes to the highest gear, preventing you from taking advantage of the engine’s midrange torque. Road test editor Chris Walton noted that the engine likes to short shift well below the engine’s 7,000-rpm redline and sounds labored when pushed hard. There is a fuel economy payoff, though; our friends at EQUA Real MPG achieved 23.5/38.5 mpg city/highway during their tests. That’s a smidge lower in the city but significantly higher on the highway versus the EPA’s official 24/34 mpg rating.
Like many of its competitors, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 prioritizes comfort. The ride is compliant even over broken pavement, and the cabin is well-isolated from exterior noise. Body control and handling are commendable for its size, and floatiness is minimal over road imperfections; steering, on the other hand, feels disconnected. The CT6 finished the figure-eight course in 26.6 seconds with a 0.67 g average and generated 0.86 g on the skidpad. Testing director Kim Reynolds noted that the car is balanced but defaults to understeer when pushed hard. Stopping from 60 mph took 120 feet with minimal fade resistance. However, Walton noted that the pedal felt “wooden then springy.” Both Reynolds and Walton also observed that the CT6 nose-dives excessively during hard braking.
A suite of active driver assists, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert, comes standard on the Premium Luxury trim and higher. Most of those systems work discreetly in the background with the exception of lane keeping assist, which ping-pongs you in your lane, and an oversensitive rear cross-traffic alert system. Super Cruise, a semi-autonomous driving feature, is available only on all-wheel-drive-equipped CT6s on the Premium Luxury and higher grades.
The Cadillac CT6 has all the virtues you expect out of a big, luxurious sedan: comfortable, quiet, and spacious. However, when you put the sum of its parts together, it feels generic. The Audi A8 oozes cutting-edge technology and the Kia K900 punches way above its sticker price. Those looking for a luxury sedan with American style can consider the Lincoln Continental, and the Jaguar XJ remains eye-catching despite its age, driving with the agility of a smaller vehicle. With the exception of Super Cruise and the CT6’s angular exterior design, it’s hard to distinguish the Cadillac from its competitive set.
