Its been a busy few weeks preparing for the show City Storeys and Folk Tails!
In the process I experienced my first ceramic disappointment, opening the kiln to find two of my large sculptures in pieces. Understandably I was quite upset and embarrassed! but I am more than happy to say they have been transformed in to something I'm very excited to share with you all.
The work will be on display at Morley Gallery from 11th September to 1st October.

A big stack of books, the most I’ve ever owned, purchased and delivered through The Zsuzsi Roboz and Alfred Teddy Smith scholarship. Since secondary school I’ve never been one for reading, if im honest I’ve never quite enjoyed the process. Reading sentences over and over again, trying to understand what they meant or trying to retain the information, let alone verbalise it, became an embarrassment and something I would try to avoid at all costs. I found inspiration 3 years ago and decided to pick up a book, it started with Matt Haig: Reasons to Stay Alive(because there are never enough). He said that reading should be something you enjoy, you don’t rush to finish, or jump to the last page. You take you time, take it all in, and enjoy every word, sentence and page. This book gave me the confidence to start reading for fun - for me, two things that didn’t go hand it hand. Fast forward 2 years, I’ve had some brilliant help from a friend, who inspired me to write. And now I’m on writing course at Morley College. There are lots of things I wouldn’t have expected of my creative future. But this was definitely not one. I feel so lucky to be at Morley pushing my creativity in to a completely new direction and enjoying reading. BOOKS BOOKS BOOKs

This week I've been in the Digital Arts department filming footage for a video. With the help of Eva Roelofs and Umai Srithayalan I was able to complete film and get the right lighting this project  Here is a little snippet, but maybe when you see it in the show it might change a lot.

Waiting at bus stop P, Camberwell Green. Killing some time but looking around, up, down, and all around. I wonder who made you and where you came from. The fumes have flown high to reach you little big, kind of forgotten looking, beautiful butterfly.
Spotting wonderful things around London,

A fantastic source of inspiration. The Welsh country side in all its glory. Look at these prominent rocks, perched up, placed and completely comfy at 1874 ft. And my home made glazed type rock

A world of miniatures.
This weekend I had some time to experiment with ideas to create a world. In these images I have used a 20cm wooden box /stage to create a setting for potential ideas. These will help me to form ideas for the show in September.
In the last who images you can see one of my characters The Queen, who lives in Candyland and has a hankering for the sweet things in life. Previously she has followed a tasty apple trail to find an apple tree. Eventually her hunger and desires consumes the health of the tree. It the end it withers away and dies.
My collection of characters represents ideas and or forms of life, things and people I find fascinating. During the show in September I will explore how they interact each other.

Experimenting in ceramics, using a natural materials. Here is a stone that I was hoping would melt in the kiln, the second image shows the discolouration of the stone. By the last firing the stone fell in to chunks.

Sitting in the crowd of this show, watching all of the talented artists, absorbing the varied visual languages. I sat in awe and complete appreciation of what i was witnessing, things I never thought i would have the privilege of seeing with my very own eyes.
The lighting, script and costumes were very inspiring, not to mention the theatrical skills, strength and complexity of their performances.
I imagine that the hundreds of people it takes to build and perform in the show is something I would one day, like to create.

A collection of experiments 1. A tree of life covered in iron(spangles) before going in the kiln 2. A test piece of a Cara made rock, I love the colours on this one, it looks as though a bug has been squishes on it or there is a fungi growing. 3. Glaze before the firing. It never comes out of the kiln how you would expect it to, I'm sure those sweet little dots won't be there when I collect it today. 4. My favourite. This was a porcelain brooch, it looks as though the metal pin reacted with the porcelain. The last reminding flower looks so beautiful. I wish I would have put this on a smaller drip tray to keep it.

"She had those eyes, the ones that had seen a thousand and one things" Last week I was in the Digital Media and Photography area at Morley College, working on my image for the show in September. This edit was an accident but it's got me thinking of a few story's.
