The increasing importance of sponsorship with regards to the business of sport and the sponsorship framework.

There is absolutely no doubt that sponsorship in sport is of vital importance to the industry. It provides much needed financial backing for clubs and organisations from the grassroots level, all the way up to the top of the professional sporting tree. It also provides a bridge for the sporting and business worlds to connect and foster relationships with each other. 

It is only natural that sponsorship in sport has increased and become just as much a part of the sports product as the sport itself. 

According to former United Nations Director of Communication, Eric Falt, It is an industry with unparalleled global reach and power. Globally, sport-related turn-over amounts to three per cent of world total economic activity. In the United Kingdom, for example, sport-related turn-over equals that of the automotive and food industries. Major events such as the soccer World Cup or Formula One Grand Prix are watched around the world. … At the same time, the corporate practices of this worldwide industry can and do have widespread impact, socially and environmentally (Dolles and Sodermann 2011). 

The above quote was mentioned in 2004, with the principles behind it still applicable today. In fact, the sports sponsorship world has exploded since then with many new innovations such as social media making it into a big money industry. 

With sport being such a global platform that creates unrivalled passion amongst spectators, it makes completely perfect sense for companies to take advantage of this sentiment and utilise it to their advantage. If they can get their logo in the stadium of a major sporting event such as the FIFA World Cup Final, then they will be receiving a global advertisement as well as the positive association between themselves and the event.

The first such event to truly embrace sponsorship, in my opinion, was the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The organisers struggled to gain public money to pay for the event, so they turned to the private sector and utilised broadcast rights and corporate sponsors. They promised corporate sponsors unrivalled exclusivity and global exposure, and in return, they would end up receiving a $225 million (USD) surplus from the games, which is now placed in a fund (LA84 Foundation) and used as a means to support the endeavours of American Olympic athletes, as well as providing support for grassroots sport in Los Angeles (Elliot 2014). 

The surplus generated by the 1984 Games shows the impact that good sport sponsorship can have on sporting bodies and the general population. The sponsorship of sport also gives companies an extremely good platform for which to promote and advertise their brand, not to mention the positive brand association that comes out of certain types of sponsorship such as the Olympic Games. This all goes to show just how important sponsorship in sport has become, given the shift from sport as competition to sport as business.

It harmed me because after seeing that, I’ve basically could never see that episode in the same light again. You turned a innocent, beautiful KIDSSS!!! show into something terrifying and disgusting.

Are you proud of that? Making CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OF A GODDARN FOUR YEAR OLD AND HER BROTHER??? WHAT KIND OF SICK FUCK THINKS THAT’S OKAY??!?

And, if you wanna say, “Oh lmao dumbass troll!!! You must really be jealous of me haha!! I bet YOU could draw so good like me!! Then you’d be able to draw all the CHILD PORNOGRAPHY you could!! Types of Depictions

Moreover, altering an image or video so that it appears to depict a minor may also be child pornography (for example, editing the face of a minor onto the nude body of an adult in an image or video).

Defined Terms for Child Pornography

A "minor” is any person under the age of eighteen years.

“Sexually explicit conduct” means actual, graphic or simulated sexual intercourse, including anal and oral; bestiality; masturbation; sadistic or masochistic abuse; or lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of the minor.

Prohibited Acts

Obviously, producing child pornography is illegal. However, it is also illegal to knowingly possess, distribute, receive, or possess with intent to distribute, any form of child pornography. Each act may receive a different criminal penalty. Inadvertent access is usually not illegal, such as accidentally clicking on a link that directs one’s web browser to such a depiction. However, repeated visits may demonstrate a pattern of behavior sufficient for a conviction.

Exceptions

There is an exception to typical definitions of child pornography. If it can be proven that the depiction has serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value, it may be exempted from child pornography laws. The definition of a pornographic image can be subjective and many courts refer to the case of U.S. v. Dost to determine whether an image meets the criteria for pornography. That case created the “Dost Test” in order to better determine whether a visual depiction of a minor constitutes a “lascivious exhibition of the genitals or pubic area.” The Dost Test has six criteria, not all of which must be present, nor are other criteria necessarily excluded from the test. Those criteria are:

1. Whether the focal point of the visual depiction is on the child’s genitalia or pubic area.

2. Whether the setting of the visual depiction is sexually suggestive, (i.e., in a place or pose generally associated with sexual activity).

3. Whether the child is depicted in an unnatural pose or inappropriate attire given the age of the child.

4. Whether the child is fully or partially clothed/nude.

5. Whether the visual depiction suggests sexual coyness or a willingness to engage in sexual activity.

6. Whether the visual depiction is intended or designed to elicit a sexual response in the viewer.

Sources of Law

It is both a federal and a state crime to knowingly possess, manufacture, distribute, or “access with intent to view” child pornography. The federal law prohibiting child pornography is 18 U.S.C. Chapter 110, Sexual Exploitation and Other Abuse of Children. In addition, the Child Online Protection Act and the Children’s Internet Protection Act also outlaw child pornography and cover media such as websites and other online forms of child pornography. Additionally, every state has its own laws regarding both child pornography and statutory rape (i.e., sexual activities with a minor).“
