suburban legends - in depth of a theory that the song is written about matthew gray gubler
this theory was made by me and rafa (@bendthwrules on twitter) cause we’re both delusional and have lots of free time apparently lol please take this lightly this is just to have fun. if you have any thoughts to share or add to our theory dont be shy !
first and foremost, we’ll start with a timeline then dive in to analyze the lyrics! it all starts with taylor’s infamous 4th of july parties, as most of you probably already know, matthew was in one of her parties in 2013, she threw the party at her house in rhode island.
on july 3rd, matthew tweeted that his next stop was new england, later that day, he took a photo with a fan during a flight to connecticut. the rumors that he was at her party started when he posted pictures with face paint and sparklers and people started to notice similarities between his and taylor’s pictures, he later deleted said pictures.
for reference, first are the pictures he posted and the pictures taylor took with other friends on the same occasion.

later on, we got this picture of the of them together, confirming that he was at her party indeed. (i can’t remember who posted this so if you remember please let me know)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fdb211cb97887f528e3db57d13be4d76/0a15e6ff58c1cf18-af/s540x810/732274b7b3425d26968f9ab85eecb93b85c70943.jpg)
his attendance on taylor’s independence party sparked rumors of a possible romance, although they didn’t officially date, it’s common knowledge that they did have a fling (also for the sake of the theory we’ll accept that as true lol).
let’s fast forward to 300 (and almost 65) days later, a new movie premieres at the fantasia international film festival on june of 2014, the movie is suburban gothic. and this was the starting point for me and rafa i mean suburban gothic… suburban legends…
taylor announced her first pop album ever, 1989, on a yahoo worldwide livestream on august 18th, 2014. by the time she announced it, of course, the album was already finished and the tracks it would have were already determined so anything taylor wrote after that, wouldn’t be in the original version of 1989.
our grand theory is that the premier of matthew’s new movie, suburban gothic, made taylor think back on her (very very) brief relationship with him, therefore, inspiring her to write suburban legends, a direct reference to the movie title.
without further ado, let’s get to the lyrics!!
taylor start the song by singing
“You had people who called you on unmarked numbers
In my peripheral vision”
which led us to associating it to mgg’s previous girlfriend and also his co-star in suburban gothic, kat dennings. since they were doing a movie together, they probably were in contact a lot and that’s possibly what taylor was referencing in this verse.
she then goes
“I let it slide like a hose on a slippery plastic summer
All was quickly forgiven”
keep in mind all the 4th of july parties are in the middle of summer, this verse could be a direct reference to that since the very first rumors started with a party in the middle of summer.
“And you kiss me in a way that's gonna screw me up forever”
do i even need to say anything else?
“I had the fantasy that maybe our mismatched star signs would surprise the whole school”
when sharing my thoughts on the lyrics with rafa, i reminded her of what taylor wrote in state of grace “just twin fire signs”, this could be about taylor and the person she’s singing about sharing star signs (of the elements fire) but also about them being twin flames (or at least she thought so). just like she purposefully mentioned matching signs in previous lyrics, i do believe she would mention mismatched signs, mind you that taylor is a sagittarius and matthew is a pisces.
that verse could also be a metaphor about how would people view their relationship, they are from different parts of the industry and didn’t share many mutual friends. “surprising the whole school” could be about how shocked the general public would be about them being together.
“When I ended up back at our class reunion walking in with you
You'd be more than a chapter in my old diaries with the pages ripped out”
here i want to highlight the expression “you’d be” and in the previous verse “i had a fantasy”, when using these expressions, taylor is taking a position of someone imagining something, someone wondering even daydreaming about what things would be like. all the other theories about who this song is about revolve around people who taylor actually had a relationship with like harry styles and it just doesn’t make sense to me why she’d be having a fantasy of how things would be like when she knew how things were. personally, this verses make much more sense when placed in a context of someone who taylor didn’t have a real relationship with, like matthew.
“I know that you still remember”
if we’re starting from the assumption that she wrote the song almost a year later looking back at what happened between them, this verse could be how she is directly talking to him, she is remembering what happened and she knows he still remember as well.
“When you told me we'd get back together”
this could possibly hint to him wanting to get back together with her, wanting to actually evolve into a true relationship.
“I broke my own heart 'cause you were too polite to do it”
although i think there’s something almost sarcastic to this verse (like you were sooo polite you couldn’t even break my heart 🥴), i still do think it makes a connection to the previous verse i mentioned, perhaps he wanted to have a real relationship with her and when she realized it wouldn’t work, she had to break her own heart so she could move on.
and some other verses that just scream matthew gray gubler (iykyk) but i can’t quite put into words like “You were so magnetic it was almost obnoxious” or “We were born to be national treasures”.
well, that was too much ! i think it’s pretty clear that i’m not the most skilled writer (😭) but this was just to share the thoughts that were making me go crazy. huuuuge thanks to rafa cause she was the one to make me stop and think about it also helped me with the writing process and also is big on timeline cause she’s been on both fandoms a long time, ty love 🩷.
please let me know your thoughts on this, love you pookies 🫶

You - Schlatt song fic
* ˚ ✦ Song: You - dodie
Summary: A summer fling. Or was it?
Warnings: Alcohol (minor mention)
Word Count: ~1200 words
Author’s Note: This is very much a vomit on a page moment, I missed the old school 2014 ukulele music I would listen to as a teenager and this came to mind as I was listening. It’s quite choppy and maybe a bit confusing. I’m not really happy with it but enjoy it regardless if you’d like :)
I told you I was looking for some empathy
Well you fooled me
Just, a touch and a thought and I was gone
May 4th 2024, 22:46
Parties weren’t your thing. But alas, if you were going to live in LA, if only temporarily, you had to live the LA lifestyle. At least that’s what your friends said in an attempt to sell you the idea of attending. Funny how as soon as you got there, none of them were anywhere to be seen.
Working on a long-term project that had shifted your life trajectory had seemed worth it at the time, but standing on your own in the corner of some sort of ass-kissing festival seemed like hell on earth. You hadn’t even noticed a figure standing beside you until he spoke.
“You don’t look like you’re having a good time.” He murmurs, nursing a plastic cup of some mysterious liquid.
Your head turned, spinning to greet the smug smirk of JSchlatt himself. You leant back against the wall, gripping your drink a little tighter. “I’m not.” You responded, nonchalantly.
He paused, as though thinking of the exact right thing to say. “Anything I can do to change that?”
“You can answer a question.” You turned to face him, one shoulder against the wall. You two were way closer than you’d expect two people to stand and why did no one tell you that this man is so much more attractive in person? “Why does this place just feel like a massive dick measuring contest? Does anyone here have just an ounce of empathy?”
He laughed, a large belly laugh. The sound was like music to your ears, much to your dismay.
And now someone’s gonna get to know the better you
When I was supposed to
Why did it have to be you?
September 8th 2024, 15:22
It had hurt much more to leave than you ever had expected it to. Staring out the window of the long-haul flight, your mind was preoccupied. It was hard to even look back at what happened.
How could he just say nothing? How could he pretend that nothing had happened between you? Was it really all just a bit of fun?
I guess
Now the next time there’s an opportunity
I’ll tread more carefully
My heart’s running out of cellotape
October 13th 2024, 19:24
You tried dating, you tried every single app that suggested being able to build any sort of connection. Anything to fill the void inside you that he had left there.
Even if you got on with them, it just wasn’t right. You couldn’t let yourself open up, many of them fizzled away after dry texts. The ones that you had a date with, you can’t remember a single one that called you again afterwards. But you didn’t care.
After him, no one ever made you feel the same.
You know
How is it I’ve never felt that way before?
I was so sure
It wasn’t going to be you
July 2nd 2024, 10:41am
There had been no apprehension. You two slotted in together like you had known each other for years. You spent almost all your time together. Schlatt postponed his flight, telling Ted that it was to work on the podcast, or he wanted to host a couple meeting in person. But Ted knew it was to spend more time with you.
“Hey man, where’ve you been?” Ted asked, looking up from the couch when Schlatt walked into his apartment. Schlatt waves him off, grumbling something about needing to sleep.
“It’s the middle of the day, the fuck you been doing?” Ted continued his questioning to no avail as Schlatt ignored him and walked into the spare room.
Days of hanging out, cooking you dinner and absolutely thrashing your ass at Mariokart turned into late nights, whispering about your goals and dreams. And then those whispers became sweet nothings, heavy breathing, gasps for more.
Neither of you intended it to be this way, you had insisted that you were just friends. But, that’s not the way it was, was it?
Why do all the red flags,
Just look like so much fun?
I have a habit of
Searching for the damage
To share my love
August 19th 2024, 21:59
You had started to feel more. You couldn’t help it. How could you not?
You knew it was a bad idea, confessing. You’d be gone in a couple of weeks. You had been psyching yourself up for the past few hours whilst curled up on the couch with him, limbs tangled together and a throw blanket draped over you both.
“Jay, can we talk?” You asked, pulling yourself up from his grip to sit opposite him.
He frowned, arms reached out as if you were still in them. “Uh, yeah. What’s going on?”
“I wanted to know where we stand.”
“Oh.”
“Oh?”
“I just thought we were kinda just messin’ around.” He said, scratching the back of his head. His eyes were darting around, avoiding yours. “Nothing serious.”
“Yeah, cool.” You shook your head, a weak laugh escaping your lips.
“You sure? You seemed pretty serious for a sec there.” He said, looking you up and down.
You laughed again, a nervous habit you had as you shook your head again. “Nah, I’m okay. I just wanted to check that we were on the same page.”
I promised to be numb
But somehow you were the one
Now to unwind
Months of a good time
September 8th 2024, 14:41
You noticed the distance immediately. Schlatt went from being at your AirBnB everyday to every other day. Then it was once a week. For a couple hours a time, you would do your business and he would be out, sometimes before you had even made it out of the bed.
He didn’t even say goodbye in person when you had to fly home.
When that flight took off, you knew that this was the end. A single summer in your life that meant everything turned into a couple months that you just wish you could forget. But he was always in the background of your mind.
People will tell me that I messed up
And it wasn’t love
And I’m secretly hoping they are right
September 16th 2024, 17:22
Confessing to your friends from home seemed like a good idea at the time but they immediately were sceptical.
Of course, it was just a classic case of a fuck-boy. It was a fling. It should have meant nothing. The next best thing will come along soon.
But something in your mind told you that it couldn’t have been. There was something more there, there had to be. You had been checking your phone almost obsessively.
Just one text. But there’s just radio silence.
Because
Whatever it was, it was wonderful
But non functional
November 22nd 2024, 02:37
Your phone was buzzing. Who the fuck would be calling you at this hour?
The screen read ‘unknown’, making you frown. It could be anyone. But you knew who you were hoping it would be. You reached over your bed, picking up the phone and clicking that little green button.
“Hello?” Your voice was raspy, throat dry.
“Did I wake you up?” Oh fuck. Oh shit fuck shit. It was him.
“Yeah.”
“Sorry.” There was silence for a moment, like he was unsure of what to say. “Could I just talk to you for a few minutes?”
I really hope I don’t love you

How did you get where you are now? Job wise I mean? Were you a college student before doing this or did you go looking for jobs in the art industry straight away?
Oh, well it's been quite a journey for me in terms of how I got to where I am right now but here's the full timeline (?):
August 1996 - BIRTH
April 2007 - I watch Brave Story at Tribeca Film Festival, life is changed and I decide to purse animation

July 2019 - Fly to California for the first time, made the decision to move in order to further pursue a career in animation, at this time the Nickelodeon Artist Program were accepting submissions so I busted out boards for a personal project in 3 days and submitted it (please do not be like me, take your time haha)
September 2019 - I receive a call from Nickelodeon and I go through a series of interviews for 2 months straight
Thanksgiving 2019 - I receive news I was selected as a trainee for the Nickelodeon Artist Program
January 2020 - Move to California and begin work as a trainee at Nickelodeon (specifically for Rugrats reboot)

May 2021 - My Adventures of Superman is announced, I draw a piece of fanart that goes viral
July 2021 - Vox Machina season 2 wraps, I receive an offer to return to Lower Decks season 3 as well to work on X-Men 97 (I said yes to Lower Decks)
August 2021 - Spiderman Freshmen Year (now known as Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman) asks if I be interested to do boards, I decline not knowing what it was for
September 2021 - Showrunner for Spiderman contacts me personally for interview, my Superman fanart from May 2021 finds it way in front of the eyes of one of the creators for MAWS, still currently doing revisions for Lower Decks S3
October 2021 - Accept job offer as board artist for Spiderman, freelancing on MAWS as a character designer (first time doing this job), turn down SkyDance job offer
December 2021 - Wrapped on Lower Decks S3
January 2022 - Launch as board artist for Spiderman at Marvel Studios, still been developing my own personal projects at this point
February 2022 - Studio Shaft offers layout and genga work for Madoka Magia Record after seeing animation work of my personal projects, I accept
April 2022 - My episode of Madoka Magia Record airs, Studio Pierrot sends offer for work on Boruto
May 2022 - After my first episode on Boruto I am offered to work on Bleach Thousand Year Blood War, I accept and continue to on Bleach as of this post (3 seasons in total), Studio Mir offers me animation work for XMen 97 (I accept but only work on the first episode)
Summer of 2022 - Working on Spiderman, animating on animes, I think at some point this is when I was offered to do animation work for Castlevania Nocturne
November 2022 - Complete season 1 of Spiderman, Marvel/Disney lays me off for *reasons*, I receive an email about potential work on an unannounced show at Nickelodeon, I'm unemployed at this point
January 2023 - Collecting unemployment, freelancing on animes, trying to survive in general, also approached by Colosso to create my own course
February 2023 - Land a short gig on Big City Greens movie over at Disney TVA, Studio Mir once again offer me work but this time for second animated Witcher film
March 2023 - Land an interview as a character designer for that unannounced Nick show, didn't get the job
May 2023 - Wrap up on Big City Greens and Witcher, fly to Japan to relax (I failed)
July 2023 - Land a layout artist position at A24 (no it's not for Hazbin Hotel), Studio Mappa offer me work on Jujutsu Kaisen Shibuya Arc
September 2023 - Land another interview with Nickelodeon (this time for storyboard artist), freelancing on layouts and animation for Castlevania Nocturne S2, A24 job is stressing me out way too much so I decide to leave, MAWS hits me up for retakes on season 2
October 2023 - Wrap up at A24, I land the board artist job at Nick, I am also drowning in Jujutsu Kaisen production meltdown, complete my online course for Colosso, wrap up on MAWS S2
November 2023 - I start at Nick as a board artist, Colosso course release, I am still dying by the hands of Studio Mappa
January 2024 till now - Still boarding over at Nick and still animating on animes (I am VERY selective now about it though after JJK), I am also in therapy now Yeah so that's like, a real rough timeline over everything from school till now (and even then I am missing a lot of work details like video games and development projects due to NDAs). But pretty much what carried me was putting myself and my art out there on social media along with building relationships with people in the studios (outside of just my production) and that's how I've been able to maintain a steady work flow even when I was unemployed. Also not being afraid to develop my own ideas and share them since most of the times that gives the leadership a pretty good idea what sensibilities I have (and they just happen to match). I hope that answered your question!

[ENG TRANSLATION] Joker Out, or the return of faith in the power of music:
Original article written by Žikica Milošević for EXIT 13.07.2024. English translation by IG irenalemajic, proofread by IG gboleyn123
The second night of Exit Festival 2024 on the Tesla Universe stage was literally and thematically dedicated to pop music, specifically 'classic', 'old school' pop music. The most significant stage of the festival was marked by performers from Slovenia and Vojvodina, so the north of former Yugoslavia demonstrated how to create an atmosphere and memorable songs.
And it began powerfully, while the sun above Petrovaradin Fortress, after another day of being merciless, was still blinding the performers, because Astrid & The Scandals got on the stage at 7:30 p.m. restoring our faith in alter-pop, as well as in Slovenian talent to produce hitmakers. In the old Yugoslavia, Slovenians were always at the forefront of musical breakthroughs, dictating trends along the Ljubljana-Zagreb-Belgrade axis. Independent Slovenia no longer had a lead role and for many decades we did not hear performers similar to Laibach, Pankrti, Lačni Franz or Buldožer, but the situation has abruptly changed in the past few years.
Instead of avant-garde and peculiar performers, hitmakers and creators of great pop music are now coming from Slovenia. The bouncy Astrid energetically announced the 'new era', adding oriental elements to her music, dancing seductively and delivering vocal virtuosity. Undoubtedly, she is 'the next big thing' in pop music in the region, and with a bit of luck, in Europe as well.
It has not happened for a long time, that the atmosphere becomes so 'heated' already at 8 p.m, but Astrid had already raised the temperature and the girls in Joker Out T-shirts were in the front rows even during the performance of Ljubičice, which perfectly continued the series of performances this evening. Their concert is a kind of poetic justice - they were supposed to lead the Main Stage at Exit in 2019 at 8 p.m. but unfortunately, the storm cut the program short and 'plucked' them from the lineup.
In the meantime, the band from Pančevo, which is composed of the two Stevanović brothers, who got a classical music education, has grown into a trio, since Olga Petrović has recently joined them as the 'third flower' in their little bouquet. There's an old saying that 'Vojvodina is Britain and Belgrade is America' in music, and pop bands from Vojvodina are widely known for their fresh melodies and hit potential and Ljubičice who, with their 'brotherly and neighbourly' band Buč Kesidi, began to conquer the region even before the pandemic, gaining fame with the song 'Jedva čekamo rat ljudi protiv mašina'. Ljubičice are the kind of pop band we've needed for a long time, and if their songs reminded me of anything, it is the sunset in summer...of 1983. A mixture of funk, synthwave and nostalgia, combined with guitar and bass skilfulness, gave us an excellent overture for what will happen later. Vuk reminded the audience that they performed at Exit back in 2014 on the Jack Daniels Stage, when they were young and relatively unestablished – and now they command the stage as if they were born to it.
And then - Joker Out, heartbreakers from Ljubljana, form with substance, the best of both worlds. It was clear to us what to expect when, at the mere hint of their entrance, the screams of the girls began, which I remember from the documentaries about The Beatles. Love messages on cardboard signs, choral singing, fantastic communication between the band and the audience were evident right from the opening song, 'Katrina'.
Joker Out are much more raw and more guitar-driven during their live performances than on their 'polished' recordings and the influences of bands such as Arctic Monkeys or The Strokes are evident.
On the other hand, the fascination of the female part of the audience is completely understandable, because besides the fact that they really know how to play, all five members have a 'superstar vibe', in the way Duran Duran or Spandau Ballet once had the same vibe. I believe that the last time such a reception was registered was during the era of boy bands 20+ years ago, but the Jokers are anything but a boy band. Singer Bojan Cvjetićanin probably 'reaped' the biggest 'harvest' of love from the audience, but the other members are not that far behind.
Slovenian is 75% understandable when read or spoken, which drops to 50% when sung (and when thousands of girls are singing along with Bojan), but it's clear that the lyrics are engaged in a way similar to Buč Kesidi – precisely dissecting the everyday life of young people in a big city, their disappointments, dates, breakups, loves and sorrows...
Bojan won the hearts of the local audience from the very beginning by addressing them in Serbian and he also managed to make a 'population census' among the attenders. We saw that (incredibly loyal fan base) quite a number of spectators came from Slovenia, but that there were even more people from the other parts of the former Yugoslavia and even those who understand none of our languages - simply driven by their love for the band that gained wider popularity at Eurovision in 2023.
The Jokers did not hide their exitement to perform on this already legendary stage.
The concert continued with a series of songs that are 'friendly' for parties, bedrooms, the beach and the radio - 'Plastika, znanstvena fantastika' and Bojan's sharp analysis of the 'culture' of plastic beauty made me look around and conclude that none of the girls in the audience were 'plastic' - which is a breath of normality and freshness we've been lacking now that we are wrapping up the first quarter of the 21st century. A better future is still possible, even though a worse present is dominant.
Joker Out jokingly call their style 'shagadelic rock' (translate it by yourself, but watch Austin Powers first), but there is nothing funny about their music. All of their songs are in Slovenian, except for two they performed in Serbian¹ (Bojan’s background allows him to play with languages and easily switch from one to another) and one in English.
In the song 'Tokio', they took us to Japan and sang part of it in Japanese too, previously teaching a 'little course on love expressions in Japanese.'
'The song that brought us here – 'Carpe Diem'!' – Bojan shouted and the audience received an infusion of energy and joy. Indeed, it was almost unimaginable 20 years ago that a 'schlager festival' would produce new stars and headliners, but Eurovision has become just that – a springboard. And it doesn't matter that they were 21st in the competition. Who cares about numbers – some performers are there to win points during the competition and some are there to conquer the world after the competition. The last song, 'Šta bih ja', was perfectly timed to be released on Friday, on the day of the concert – and it tells us, somewhat in the manner of 'Arctic Monkeys listening to Sarajevo pop', about the experience of life in London.
Joker Out brought 'sexy' back to pop music. We didn't lack cheap sex appeal all these years, but we did miss sophisticated and rock sex appeal. They brought the classic pop formation back big time – and we've missed it. They brought the energy back to the stage, female fans who travel to see them, scream their names and know all the songs by heart.
I can imagine the 'good old' days of girls' bedrooms decorated with their posters. Even if they hadn't recorded a single good song, all of this would have been enough and refreshing. But they recorded plenty of good ones. And somehow I believe we witnessed history and the beginning of a 'stellar' story with five guys from Ljubljana in the lead role.
¹In this case, the author of this article is referring to two songs that have already been released in Serbian, 'Ona' and 'Demoni'.
The band now has three songs in Serbian, including 'Šta bih ja'.

1) what year is Hanako set in?
2) How long has it been since Yashiro summoned Hanako?
Perguntas que eu não consigo parar pra responder! 😃
Hmm… I think it takes place in 2014
Follow my logic, Nene once went back in time, to the festival where Hanako is a child.
There's a poster there that says it's 1964, and Nene says she went back fifty years.
1964 + 50 = 2014
As for how long it's been since they met, I have a guess
Nene and the other students are wearing summer/spring clothes. Considering that Nene picked some vegetables to give to Teru, and that the flowers were in bloom, it means that they were in spring.
In Japan, spring happens between March, April and May, considering that the Japanese school year starts in April and Nene said that she had confessed to a boy a month ago, it is possible that she invoked Hanako in May.
When Nene meets Hanako in festival with Kou, they are in the month of July, because tanabata festivals take place in July (summer in Japan).
Further on, we enter the school festival arc (the current arc).
Known as bunkasai, school festivals take place in autumn (in Japan autumn occurs in the months September, October, November) Nene confirms that she is in the second semester of school.
We have to remember that Nene will die next year, we don't know when.
So, she probably met him in May and currently they could be between the end of October and beginning of November
If we consider October, they have known each other for six months, if we consider November then seven months.
I'm going to consider end of October because they still seem a bit far from winter, so they've known each other for six months.
That's my guess, I don't know if it's correct but it makes sense to me haha
"Perguntas que eu não consigo parar pra responder! 😃"
Hahaha eu não tinha nem pensado nisso antes, sobre datas atuais, você me fez fazer cálculos a essa hora da noite XD preciso de um belo copo de chocolate quente depois disso.

Happy 60th Birthday Scottish actress Blythe Duff, born 25th November 1962 in East Kilbride.
Her love of acting started with youth theatre. On leaving Hunter High School she joined The Company, a youth opportunities theatre company, based at the Glasgow Arts Centre in Washington Street and spent her summers with the Scottish Youth Theatre. She entered the profession in 1983 with her first job at the Young Playwrights Festival, I’m sure she would have known my old school friend, who won The Young Scottish Playwright of the year award back then, may he rest in peace.
Blythe worked in theatre for seven years, appearing with Scottish Opera in Street Scene as Shirley Kaplan in 1989, and at the Coliseum Theatre in London with the English National Opera. She also performed on the soundtrack album which was released on Decca Records in 1989. She was working for Scottish Opera when she landed the role of Jackie Reid in the sixth series of Taggart in 1990. Her first appearance was a community police officer in the second episode of the sixth series, “Death Comes Softly”, on 3rd December 1990, in which she is credited as playing WPC Reid. In the third episode, which first aired on 31st December 1990, she was credited as playing Jackie Reid and her character was seconded to CID as DC Reid. By series eight in 1993 her character was promoted to Detective Sergeant. She became the longest-serving member of the Taggart cast after James Macpherson left the show in 2002. The last Taggart was shown in 2011, seeing Jackie Reid finally reach Detective Inspector.
Apart from Taggart, and a couple of short films Blythe has only really appeared as herself, voice overs and quiz shows etc as well as crime shows and documentaries. She has however performed on stage regularly and was a double winner, in 2013 and 2014, of the Critics Award for Theatre in Scotland, for her role as Fay Black in Iron, Rona Munro’s psychological drama set within a women’s prison.
Duff is married to former police officer Tom Forrest and became stepmother to his two daughters Sarah and Katie. She was made a patron of Scottish Youth Theatre in the year 2000. Blythe was Chieftain of Bute Highland Games in 2009 and Chieftain of the Cowal Games in 2011.
She was given an Honorary Doctorate in June 2011 from Glasgow Caledonian University for her outstanding contribution to the performing arts.
In 2020 Duff and singer Cameron Barnes teamed up to re-imagine the classic Christmas song Fairytale of New York to raise funds for freelance creatives and their families.
Blythe said about growing up in Calderwood, East Kilbride, surrounded by references to Shakespeare due to the new town’s habit of clustering local street names around a certain theme. “The streets all had brilliant names” she says. “You live next to Edmond Kean and Hamlet and MacBeth, all these theatre references on street signs. I wonder whether or not that was soaking into my subconscious from an early age. I only thought about that when I was older but I like the idea.”
Duff has recently joined Joinsed the cast of the World Premiere of New Musical Wild Rose, she recently commented, “I really can’t wait to start rehearsals for Nicole Taylor’s brilliant Wild Rose. The film really landed with so many people and I have a feeling the musical will live up to all expectations. It was late 80s when I last played on the Lyceum stage so I can’t wait to be in that beautiful theatre again.
The production begins its life in Scotland where the piece is set, opening The Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh in 2025 as part of the company’s Spring season. Based on the excellent, critically acclaimed award-winning film of the same name written by Taylor, directed by Tom Harper and produced by Faye Ward (Fable Pictures), the production opens on 14th March, with previews from 6 March, and runs until 5th April.

249 - Love is Strange
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c968ae6c7d6a584b1055b048ccab9aa3/421b736ae7289d34-c8/s540x810/e6da66234ce9b829baa6319871b4b0ee468fc56d.jpg)
Ahead of this week's release of Ira Sachs' Passages, we're discussing perhaps Sachs' most lauded film, 2014's Love is Strange. The film stars John Lithgow and Alfred Molina as a newly married couple forced to live apart in New York City when one of them is fired from his Catholic school job for being gay. Charting the frustrating nuances of cohabitation and the unexamined financial hardships of city life, the film is a quiet wonder filled with humane performances, including Marisa Tomei as part of the couple's social circle. Praised at Sundance and in its late summer release, the film managed to stay in conversation due to several Independent Spirit nominations, but was shut out by Oscar.
This episode, we discuss Sachs' underappreciated filmography and Molina's career rise as a trustworthy supporting player. We also discuss Lithgow's consecutive Supporting Actor nominations in the 1980s, the film's release in the year before the Obergefell ruling, and Sony Pictures Classics' busy 2014.
Topics also include Best Grownup Love Story, the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, and Asteroid City.

2014 VoicePlay fall travels — school tour, and festivals, and cruising, oh my!
VoicePlay didn't have an extended tour scheduled for the autumn months, but that doesn't mean they were just sitting at home. (They did get some time at home, though, which is a good thing.) Their adventures were simply shorter and more varied.
.
RPI homecoming show
As part of Resselaer Polytechnic Institute's homecoming weekend in upstate New York, VoicePlay and pal Emoni Wilkins headlined "An Evening of A Cappella" with the university's student a cappella groups, Duly Noted, Partial Credit, The Rusty Pipes, and the Rensselyrics. Before the show, they were the guests of honor at a meet-and-greet for alumni of the student groups and the RPI glee club.

.
Pennsylvania school tour
When VoicePlay performed at APAP in January 2014, they caught a number of eyes, including those of executive director Rob Steele from the Williamsport Community Arts Center in Pennsylvania. He sought out their booth at the convention, and was impressed by their commitment to educational outreach.
So when mid-October rolled around, VoicePlay and Emoni set off for a whirlwind week of workshops at all eight school districts in Lycoming County. They visited two schools per day, culminating with a Friday student matinee and an evening concert at the Williamsport CAC. Since filming the fourth season of The Sing-Off the previous summer and the ensuing tour in the spring had greatly reduced the guys' ability to schedule time with students for nearly a year, they were excited to have some concentrated kid time.

Bridgeport show
After bidding farewell to Emoni, the guys made a quick jaunt to Bridgeport, CT for one more show — complete with a theater pooch and tiled dressing room — before heading home.

.
Home time
After eight days of shows and workshops, flights and van rides, the guys got to enjoy two weeks at home with minimal interruptions. They did pop down to Miami for a charity event (with some very cool decor) that happened to coincide with Earl's birthday. In a belated anniversary celebration, Earl and Nick got tattoos of each other's voice waveforms. And, of course, they had to celebrate Halloween.

.
Cruising
At the beginning of November, VoicePlay hit the road — and the skies and the seas — once more. They fit in a quick Caribbean cruise gig before heading back north.

.
Kettering National A Cappella Festival
When they got off the ship, the boys jetted up to Dayton, Ohio for one of the biggest student a cappella festivals in the country. After headlining the Friday night concert, they spent Saturday running master class sessions with various high school groups. The Saturday night concert was headlined by Street Corner Symphony, who the guys would soon get to know better on the upcoming 2015 Sing-Off tour.

A member of Marlington High School's Dukes of Harmony documented the weekend in video, including a couple clips and photos of VoicePlay.
.
Back and forth
The boys popped home for a few days to do a couple corporate gigs — one of which will get its own post — before returning to Ohio for another weekend of shows and workshops. (Though Geoff did get a little concerned when a TSA officer at the Orlando airport recognized him after so many frequent trips.)
.
Wittenberg University show
VoicePlay performed a concert as part of the Wittenberg Series, with collegiate groups Just Eve and Wittmen Crew opening for them. The next day, they held a master class workshop for the students, who then followed them down the road to the next festival.

.
Ohio Wesleyan A Cappellooza
The second annual A Cappellooza brought together collegiate vocal groups from across the state. Participants included Denison University, Oberlin College, Wittenberg University, and the University of Akron, in addition to OWU itself. Given that year's theme of Disney music, VoicePlay were a natural fit as professional headliners for the night.

Celebrating love at home
The guys escaped the frozen north, and capped off November by playing local weddings on the last two weekends before finally taking some time off to spend the holidays with their families.

KOKIA in flashback - 2015
The year of 2015 sees KOKIA go on tour in Japan again for the first time in a while, to 'sow the seeds of her music' across the country. She has a lot of radio appearances to promote the tour, which runs from March to April.
She also has a big spring venue performance to promote her new album: I Found You. She does mention how her plans for next year mean there won't be a big spring performance in 2016, so this will be the last one for the forseeable future.
And then, at the KOKIA salon event for fan club members, KOKIA reveals she's pregnant! She's expecting her baby in January 2016, meaning that her final performance of the year in Kawaguchiko in October is starting to cut it close, especially since it's half-open air. Yet despite the cold, she really enjoys this concert, feeling very connected to nature, especially with Mount Fuji showing up in the backdrop.

just for some context: my experience with fandoms pre-st were... fine? i never really made strong connections with anyone in them or interacted with mutuals as much. i was always kinda lurking in the shadows and reading fic and rbing fandom posts but never really participating like i am now. this is definitely the most fun and most comfortable i have ever felt in a fandom space <3
One Direction (2013 - 2017 (some may argue it never leaves you)) - oh. my boys. it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. i lied, i totally still have a friend/mutual that i still keep in touch with from these days that my sister met on twitter in 2013. ANYWAY not much to say other than the brainrot was semi-cured by the breakup but i will be a louis girl till the day i die.
The 100 (late 2014 - late 2017) - LOVED the fics. GREAT fics that came from this fandom. left/fell off when the show just became unwatchable TO ME. no hate to anyone who stayed longer, it just crossed my Bullshit Threshold (which is pretty low considerign i am a st fan LOL). Also Minty was MY ship for the longest time and will ALWAYS be bitter that they made Miller gay and Minty NOT canon *throwing tomatoes throwing tomatoes*.
Star Wars (little kid sen - old lady sen) - THIS ONE. This is my ride or die. I will love star wars until i am in the ground. BUT i was sent death threats on twitter in 2017 for defending tlj and after that pulled back from participating in fandom as much. still read fics and cheered ppl on from the sidelines on here. *blows a kiss to the sky for poe dameron*
Honorable mentions:
Timeless (2016-2018) - the NBC show that lasted 2 seasons but had the most UNNECESSARILY good fics and the BEST fandom bloggers holy shit. i am still shook by a fic i read back in those days. it was sadly cancelled before it's time, no matter how many petitions i signed or letters i wrote to execs that summer of 2018 :/
Revolution (2012 - 2014) - ANOTHER 2 season NBC show that was cancelled before it should have been!!! i was a freshman in high school when i found this fandom, the show was airing on tv at the time, and it was the fandom that i think introduced me to the Basics of Fan Spaces which is really special to me. i also remember reading fic on ff.net for this show which is awesome lolol.
#thank you for the ask zoey!!!!#sorry this is long as hellll#kissing you!!#sen talks#there are more fandoms that i participated in but dont claim#will NOT be talking about my stint in the em see you fandom#that was a.. dark time

Lily-Rose DeppWith her slender figure, prominent cheekbones and cute pout, Lily-Rose Depp has won over both Chanel – she has been the face of the house since she was 16 – and film directors, who are fighting over the young star. Sensual in the series The Idol, femme fatale in 070 Shake’s latest music video, gothic beauty for the premiere of Nosferatu, out in cinemas on December 25th, 2024, stepping on the Cannes’ red carpet with her timeless charm or wandering the street of Paris as the incarnation of the French woman, here are 13 looks that have shaped Lily-Rose Depp’s aesthetics.Lily-Rose Depp at the Chanel Spring/Summer 2016 show on October 6, 2015 in Paris © Getty Images, Photo by Dominique Charriau/WireImage.Lily-Rose Depp at the Chanel Spring/Summer 2016 show on October 6, 2015 in Paris © Getty Images, Photo by Dominique Charriau/WireImage.1. Her first Chanel fashion show: Lily-Rose Depp is following in the footsteps of Vanessa ParadisIn 2015, Lily-Rose Depp had barely turned sixteen and while most teenagers her age are forging their style in high school, her famous parents and growing success are naturally pushing her to the front rows of the most prestigious Parisian fashion shows, like Chanel, which invited her for its Spring/Summer 2016 collection. For this first event, which Lewis Hamilton and Marine Vacth, among others, attended, the future actress opted for a pair of skinny jeans at the cutting edge of fashion at the time, along with a multicoloured tube top and elegant matching red scarf that perfectly highlighted her graceful neck.An additional tousled bun, natural make-up and platform heels and there she goes – Lily-Rose Depp does not overdo or underdo it, while embracing the codes of her teenage years. Her entry into the big league was a resounding success and probably stemmed from the simple, ingenuous charm that made her mother Vanessa Paradis such an icon in the early 90s. The two shared the catwalk together.Lily Rose Depp at the 2017 © César Revelations Dinner Photo by Stephane Cardinale – Corbis/Corbis via Getty Images.2. Lily-Rose Depp: muse of Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel since she was 16Whether she finds herself walking on the steps of the MET Gala or simply around the city, Lily-Rose Depp is always dressed in Chanel. So it’s only logical that she should call on the house to dress her for the prestigious “Révélations” dinner in 2017. Noticed for her role in Planetarium a year earlier, then nominated for a César in the ‘Best New Actress’ category with The Dancer the following year, the young actress, who was 18 at the time, saw her career take off.Since 2015, she has also been the face of Chanel. In the same way that he fell for the lolita charm of Vanessa Paradis in 1991, Karl Lagerfeld, artistic director of Chanel, was also starstruck by Lily-Rose, who resembled her mother perfectly. The latter shot her first Chanel campaign with Jean-Paul Goude, walked the catwalk for fashion shows and posed hand in hand with the illustrious designer during photoshoots, but also in real life. This specific photo seems to be her tribute to him, appearing all dressed up in a two-piece suit with a black and white tie. Chic and oh-so-French in this androgynous ensemble, Lily-Rose Depp is using that night celebrating her acting talents as a way to confirm her status as a fashion muse.Lily-Rose Depp at the 76th Venice Film Festival in 2019, on the red carpet of the film “The King” on September 2, 2019 © photo by Marilla Sicilia/Archivio Marilla Sicilia/Mondadori Portfolio via Getty Images.3. Lily-Rose Depp as an ultra-glamorous Chanel heroine at the 2019 Venice Film FestivalLike her parents, Lily-Rose Depp chose to become an actress at a very early age. At just 15, she made her mark on the big screen in Kevin Smith’s film Tusk (2014), starring alongside her father. From then on, she had a series of carefully chosen experiences, with a preference for French cinema, such as Planetarium (2016) directed by Rebecca Zlotowski, in which she co-starred with actress Natalie Portman.Another highlight of her career was walking the steps of the Venice Film Festival for the film The King in 2019. On the red carpet of this high-profile festival, she made a splash alongside Franco-American actor Timothée Chalamet, in her sumptuous, evanescent strapless gown by Chanel. Cut from dark purple chiffon, the light fabric would twirl with every step she took. This glamorous piece was enhanced by a delicate scarf wrapped around her neck, illuminating her hair pulled back in a bun to emphasise her doll-like face.Lily Rose Depp at the Met Gala “Camp: Notes on Fashion” on May 6, 2019 in New York Getty © Images, Photo by Karwai Tang.4. Lily-Rose Depp making a fashion statement dressed in a Chanel archive gown at the MET Gala in 2019Already targeted by the paparazzi when she was knee-high to a grasshopper, Lily-Rose Depp has always kept her public appearances limited. So when she steps onto a red carpet, the young actress thinks carefully about her outfit. The famous MET Gala evening was the event that helped her claim her status as a fashion icon, drawing the attention of the press and fans alike for her style. In sync with her generation, she knew how to choose pieces that would be a hit and, above all, that would perfectly fit her body.Ahead of what would later become a widespread trend – that is, wearing archive dresses from major fashion houses – Lily-Rose Depp decided to make her own one of the most iconic dresses designed by couturier Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. Not only does this black ensemble adorned with large chains and gold camellias from the Spring/Summer 1992 couture collection suit her beautifully, it also fits in perfectly with the theme “Camp: Notes on Fashion” of the 2019 MET Gala. You only have to delve into the archives to understand the importance of this dress, first sported on a catwalk by supermodel Christy Turlington in 1992, and more importantly by Penélope Cruz in a now cult scene from Pedro Almodóvar’s 2009 film Broken Embraces…Screenshot from @i_dfrance account5. Lily-Rose Depp in a Kate Moss-inspired dressNothing scares Lily-Rose Depp. As the angelic face of Chanel since 2016, the actress dares to be extravagant by being photographed in the simplest of outfits. For the February 2023 issue of i-D Magazine, she paid tribute to a look sported by Kate Moss in the 1990s, immortalised in a now iconic photograph of the 19-year-old British supermodel. That shot portrayed Kate Moss in a simple iridescent sheer dress and black knickers, holding a cigarette in one hand and a beer in the other, while attending the Elite Model Agency party at the Hilton Hotel in London.Twenty years later, Lily-Rose Depp has been captured by the powerful black and white lens of French photographer Karim Sadli. With her frozen pout, in a simple sheer dress by New York label Martin Keehn and black knickers, the illusion was perfect. Very comfortable in front of the cameras, the actress flirts with the controversial heroin chic aesthetic in this photo series. That aesthetic, which gained momentum in the 2000s, was controversial since some saw in it a glorification of drugs and encouragement of the cult of thinness and eating disorders. Embodied by the supermodels of the time and very much on trend in the fashion world, this former heroin chic trend opened up a debate on the beauty ideals conveyed by the catwalks. Since then, it has given way to a better inclusion of all bodies in fashion, for the greater good.Lily-Rose Depp at the Chanel Cruise 2022-2023 show on November 4, 2022 in Miami Beach, Florida. © Getty Images, Photo by Alexander Tamargo/WireImage. 6. Lily-Rose Depp: a Chanel silhouette from California to Paris“American? Californian? Parisian? New Yorker? […] I’m never completely one or the other,” Lily-Rose Depp told Numéro in December 2022. With an American father and a French mother, Depp has forged her identity between the Californian, sunny beaches and the Parisian, chic streets. From her full lips, reminiscent of the greatest Hollywood stars, to her mad, natural charisma inherited from French icons, the actress uses her dual nationality as her major asset. The proof was in her appearance in November 2022 at the Chanel cruise fashion show, where she wore a sky-blue tweed ensemble composed of a mini-skirt and a crop-top. Waving her hair in the wind, she posed on a Californian beach, with the ocean and sky in the background. She had for only accessories a chain belt emblazoned with the two C’s, a tiny, black handbag and a pair of black and white pumps. Simple and effective, her outfit seemed to draw both on her mother’s elegant, effortless wardrobe, and on the pastel colour palette and short, summer cuts that are so characteristic of Los Angeles, where she grew up until her 16th birthday.Screenshot of an Instagram post from the @lilysredrose account.7. Lily-Rose Depp embraces the Y2K trendA few years ago, Lily-Rose Depp used to share her intimate, uncompromising confessions on her blog ‘Kalilyfornia’, post crop-top photos, but twerk on a TV set without a care in the world. Yet, her growing success has now given way to a complicated relationship between her and one of the leading social networks of her generation: Instagram. Some 7.5 million followers are looking at her photos, which are now more controlled than ever, but she never forgets to be natural, snapping a few intimate shots of her friends and family between two Chanel runway shows.Beyond the media hype, the paparazzi’s stolen pictures and the glossy campaigns, the actress is taking part in the fashion trends that are invading social media, such as the devastating Y2K aesthetic, reminiscent of the 2000s. This major trend in today’s fashion landscape has finally been brilliantly adopted by Lily-Rose Depp.Captured by American rapper 070 Shake, she appears in this photograph with her futuristic sunglasses hiding her eyes on and her signature heart-shaped mouth, wearing an ultra-tight outfit – a crop-top and skirt ensemble with a baroque print drawn from the Jean Paul Gaultier archives. These pieces from the Spring/Summer 1998 collection, inspired by the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, emphasised the star’s slim figure as she looked more in tune with her image than ever.Screenshot of an Instagram post from the @lilyrose_depp account.8. Lily-Rose Depp as a pop star in the series The IdolOne thing is for sure, the scandalous series The Idol (2023) has already been widely discussed by the media, as it portrays the worst part of the entertainment industry. The American media Rolling Stone describes it as “cruel, violent and way worse than you’ve heard”. The HBO series was directed by Sam Levinson (Euphoria) and Canadian singer Abel Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd, and boasted a five-star cast with a host of cutting-edge looks. As lead actress in The Idol, Lily-Rose Depp appeared on screen in ultra-light, erotic outfits. Indeed, a few weeks before the premiere of the first episodes, a picture of the French actress posted on her Instagram account went viral and quickly reached 1 million likes. The reason? The photo shows the star in a sultry, sheer, candy-pink bodysuit revealing her body, along with the enigmatic name ‘Jocelyn’. This sexy preview of the fashion pieces worn on set confirms the reckless, sensual attitude of the artist, who is not strip down.Lily-Rose Depp at the Cannes © Film Festival Virgile Guinard, courtesy of Chanel.9. Lily-Rose Depp in a Chanel little black dress and pumpsAlthough the Cannes Film Festival is famous for its grand red carpet, Lily-Rose Depp decided to keep things simple this year. For the photocall for her new series The Idol, she opted for a tweed, little black dress designed by Chanel, of course. At night, she stepped on the red carpet in a black sequin Chanel archive dress adorned with a camellia on the chest from the Fall/Winter 1994-1995 collection.Seemingly simple, this sophisticated look was a testament to the young actress’s cutting-edge style, as she coupled a tube dress with long, black chiffon gloves, tights and a pair of tiny heels – more often worn in the very elegant streets of the 16th arrondissement in Paris than for official events. A surprising choice of course, but one that reflects her taste for timeless, feminine fashion, which embodies the legacy of both her mother Vanessa Paradis and the prestigious fashion house located Rue Cambon.Lily-Rose Depp at the Chanel cruise 2024-2025 show in Marseille in May 2024. © Photo by Stephane Cardinale – Corbis/Corbis via Getty Images.10. A crop top and a mini skirt: Lily-Rose Depp’s fashion essentialsTrue to her status as the face of Chanel, Lily-Rose Depp rarely misses the company’s runway shows. For each event, she sports the latest creations from the ateliers Rue Cambon, and adapts them to her fresh, contemporary style. This includes the mini, and even micro skirts trend, which has been on for several seasons, as well as crop tops, brought back to life thanks to the return of Y2K fashion that the actress particularly likes.Last May, for instance, she walked the catwalk of the Chanel croisière 2024-2025 show in Marseille, wearing a black mini-skirt embroidered with pink and silver flowers and paired with a tiny black cardigan revealing her sculpted silhouette, in spite of the windy, grey sky threatening South-East France that day. A daring outfit that simply revamps the essentials of her everyday wardrobe in a couture version.Screenshot from @lilyrose_depp account.11. Lace and knee-high socks: Lily-Rose Depp’s sultry, sexy styleIt is in her more personal projects and social networks that Lily-Rose Depp fully expresses her interest for fashion and style. On her Instagram account, the actress collects shots of herself wearing her most recent looks – most of them are very sexy ones.A see-through dress, a little jumper worn with nothing but tights… or a grey cardigan – the ultimate trend of the Fall/Winter 2024-2025 – and lace knickers, paired with white knee-high socks and gold Chanel pumps that are a tad outdated.Striking the pose in her flat, Lily-Rose Depp asserts herself as a modern-day femme fatale, just like in the latest music video of her girlfriend 070 Shake. In a subdued bar, she strolls and dances sensually, sublimated by an ultra-tight iridescent pink dress, leaving the rapper (and viewers of the video) speechless.Lily-Rose Depp at the Governor Awards on November 17, 2024. © Chanel. 12. Vintage and glamorous, the essence of Lily-Rose Depp’s styleMid-November, the Governor Awards were an opportunity for Hollywood to show the best gala outfits off. Lily-Rose Depp didn’t stray from her style, appearing in an ultra-glamorous and elegant Chanel gown as usual. With its Empire cut and long train, the dress takes on late 19th-century accents and recalls the actress’s passion for vintage fashion, as she digs up archive pieces for every public appearance. An old-fashioned look, reminiscent of the time period in which Lily-Rose Depp’s upcoming film is set…Lily-Rose Depp at the premiere of Nosferatu on December 4, 2024 in London. © Chanel. Photo by Samir Hussein/WireImage. 13. Nosferatu introduces Lily-Rose Depp to method actingA year after the series The Idol and the numerous debates that came with its release, Lily-Rose Depp is making her comeback to the silver screen with Nosferatu, in cinemas on December 25th. The film is a good opportunity for the actress and model to try her hand at the famous trend of method dressing on red carpets, already mastered by Zendaya and Anya Taylor-Joy…The theme of the film? A horror story featuring a vampire-like aesthetic and a terrifying narrative that offers Lily-Rose Depp a host of gothic, vintage fashion possibilities, just like this grey satin Chanel look she wore earlier this month to the film’s premiere in London. With its ruffled petticoat, corset top, choir collar and large necklace adorned with many precious stones, it looked like a late 19th-century crinoline. For any questions/feedback regarding the above mentioned products/brands, please do contact us anytime by clicking here Source link

© Chanel. 12. Happy Birthday Scottish actress Blythe Duff, born 25th November 1962 in East Kilbride.
In the past month Blythe has bee touring some Scottish theatres in James IV: Queen of the Fight, by the acclaimed playwright Rona Munro.
Last year Blythe said about growing up in Calderwood, East Kilbride, surrounded by references to Shakespeare due to the new town’s habit of clustering local street names around a certain theme. “The streets all had brilliant names” she says. “You live next to Edmond Kean and Hamlet and MacBeth, all these theatre references on street signs. I wonder whether or not that was soaking into my subconscious from an early age. I only thought about that when I was older but I like the idea.”
On acting Blythe said
'I'll never retire but don't tell my husband that'
In September Blythe returned to the No Mean City streets in a new music video based on the role which made her a household name for 21 years. Described as ‘an homage to Taggart, and a love letter to Glasgow’, the film echoes the opening credits and gritty underworld scenes of the long-running cop show which made her a household name longside Mark McManus, Colin McCredie and Alex Norton until its demise in 2011.
It sees the actor crouched over a dead body behind police lines in a back alley, surrounded by rubberneckers and the dead boy’s devastated mother.
Have a wee look and listen to the video, Blythe has a fine voice and it is a powerful emotional video.
