Five years ago, on this very date, about a hundred and fifty students went to school. Young souls, with their futures ahead of them, with not a care in the world, save for their studies.
No one knew, no one could have guessed that these 150 children would never get to go home.
That they would never see their families again.
That their lives would come to an end so abruptly.
On the 16th of December, 2014, terrorists stormed the school. Army Public School, Peshawar, Pakistan, wasn't a hub of learning that day.
It was the site of a massacre which was to shake the whole world.
These terrorists, they wanted revenge for the operation being carried against them by the country. So they took it out on the kids. The students were congregated in a hall.
These vile animals, they forced their way in.
And opened fire at the audience.
Oh, but they didn't stop there.
Around 150 children died that day. Around 115 were injured. Teachers were also killed. The principal of the school was said to have been martyred trying to save her pupils.
The entire world was watching this on their TV screens; the sirens blaring, the parents crying, the children wailing, the reporters struggling to contain their tears.
And even after 5 years, my heart still burns with rage. I'm still just as heartbroken, and I still cry. This happened hundreds of miles away, yet I feel as if I was there, witnessing it all.
Please remember these innocent souls in your prayers

A post on facebook just reminded me about this wonderful fact about Kane Williamson:
After the New Zealand vs Pakistan 2014 ODI series, Williamson donated his entire match fee for all five ODIs to the victims of the December 2014 Peshawar APS school massacre that took the lives of over 150 children.
This picture shows a Pakistani cricket legend, Younis Khan, presenting a survivor of the APS attack with a signed jersey from Williamson.

APS massacre case: Supreme Court summons PM Imran Khan
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has summoned Prime Minister Imran Khan today (Wednesday) in the Army Public School (APS) massacre case.A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed is hearing the case.
On December 16, 2014, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants stormed the Army Public School in Peshawar and gunned down over 140 people, mostly schoolchildren, in cold blood.
A hearing of the case took place today during which the apex court summoned the prime minister to appear before the bench at 11:30am, in his personal capacity.
During the previous hearing of the case, parents of the children martyred in the 2014 terrorist attack had complained to the court that they had lost their children in the incident hence the top civil and military leadership of the country should be summoned by the Supreme Court and cases registered against them.
The victims' parents had also demanded of the apex court to hold a transparent inquiry into the incident. The court had asked the attorney general to review the situation and take necessary steps--whether it be an investigation or filing cases against those responsible-- and inform the court.
When the hearing resumed today, the court asked the attorney general for an update, who responded by saying that FIRs cannot be registered against the top leadership.
At this, the bench angrily told the government's lawyer that the incident had taken place as a result of a "security lapse" which the government should accept, adding that the top civil and military leaders of the time should have known about the attack.
The chief justice then remarked that Pakistan's agencies and institutions have access to all sorts of information but when it comes to the security of the people "our security agencies fail".
Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan said the APS massacre had taken place in response to Operation Zarb-e-Azb, adding that state institutions should have taken effective steps against it.
During the hearing, the attorney general sought time from the court to seek directives from the prime minister and other officials so he can respond to the court.
However, the bench said this was a very serious case and that it would summon the prime minister and seek answers from him.
The attorney general had sought further time for the prime minister to appear before the court. However, the bench expressed anger at his request and said the parents of the victims of the APS massacre are also in court.
The hearing of the case has been adjourned for the time being and will resume by 11:30am.

Trapped in a cycle of Violence
Trigger Warnings: A character death, violence, emotional angst. Bullets released aiming at the long distance of the mountains of North Waziristan. Men clothed in their brown army suits ran whilst clutching their guns tightly as their eyes scanned repeatedly, for any remaining targets. Weeks of planning and preparation, their efforts finally bore fruit and manifested itself as they successfully shot down another terrorist with a bullet deeply imprinted within his head. The one next to him was shot in the chest and immediately went crashing down on the defile, dead. The shooter was a man yet not a man. He wore a regular army uniform as he saluted to his fellow comrades for the hard work they had shown today. They returned the salute back to him full of honour. Pakistan was deeply grateful for his army, his admiration can't be described by mere words. "Go and check for any secret weapons and the bodies left behind, we cannot afford any more escapes." Pakistan or Umer Qazi as was his civilian name, heard the commanders' orders booming towards soldiers as they left. Pakistan stayed on the arid land near the defile, monitoring the bodies to see if they pretended to play dead or not. Pakistan can make sure they stayed dead because after all, terrorists had lost a right to live after slaughtering all of those innocent people. Slaughtering children so small, they could barely grasp the concept of ‘harming others’. All they ever wanted was to have a normal life. HE wanted a normal life. Wouldn’t it be great to venture outside and explore without fear nor to be forced to stay hidden in the night’s presence? While waiting for the post-mortem people to come and take the bodies away, Pakistan carefully held his gun hovering above the dead terrorists' heads. It was all over. The innocents’ souls have been liberated and they have finally gained the justice that they so rightly deserved. These lowlife bastards took everything precious to them, these monsters destroyed everything that they held dear. They made the families cry for their lost loved ones. And they still cry on. They took his futures away. The little ones who were supposed to make him great. "My job was to send them to face God. Now their punishment is a matter between them and God." Pakistan dropped his gun before kneeling on the ground, crying. Why is it that peace is so hard to achieve? Lifting his head up from his dirty hands, gazing at the clear blue sky, the truth was so clear to him. He was trapped in a vicious cycle of violence and he has to struggle to get out of it. Author Note: ‘North Waziristan’ - This is a reference of a location where a military operation called Zarb E Azb had first started, the main phase lasted from 15 June 2014 – 3 April 2016, was conducted by the Pakistan Armed Forces against various militant groups in those troubled regions (such as the TTP or the Taliban in Pakistan, Haqqani Network etc.,) in effort against militancy after the 2014 Jinnah International Airport attack. ‘Slaughtering children, so small’ - A reference to the 2014 Peshawar School Massacre where 149 people including 132 school children were tragically slaughtered in a terrorist attack conducted by the TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan) a militant group. This fanfiction was made by Mun Sehrish along with Mun Zuhra. The picture above created and belongs to Mun Zuhra.

Brutal tragedy in Pakistan's history: 5th anniversary of APS attack being observed today
Five years have passed since the terrorist attack at Army Public School (APS) in Peshawar, but the grief and sorrow are still fresh today.
On December 16, 2014, terrorists brutally killed 149 people, including 132 innocent children, of the Army Public School in Peshawar.
The teachers who spread the light of knowledge also sacrificed their lives in the incident.
The terrorists came in with an evil intention of burning the candle of knowledge but could not succeed, lights of education are still bright today.
Following the massacre, on December 16, 2014, the sun rose as usual, dreamy Army Public School Students reached school during this, at 10:40am, six terrorists attacked the school.
Peshawar’s atmosphere was echoed by blasts and bullets, as peace enemies full of modern weapons targeted children and teachers.
People, who unfamiliar with the word of humanity martyred 149 people, including 132 children.
Many stories of bravery and courage were also added to the tragedy.
Principal Army Public School Tahira Qazi’s duty will be remembered for years, the brave woman sacrificed her life but stood between the terrorists and the children.
The wounds of the tragedy may have been refreshing on December 16, but the nation’s determination, courage gave a new definition to those words.
Cowardly terrorists should attack the school and turn off a candle to knowledge, targeted future builders but could not diminish the morale of the nation.
Their dreams were snatched away but did not succeed in undermining their parents’ courage.
The courages are still high of those who have lost their loved ones.
After the tragedy of APS, the nation and security agencies fought the terrorists with renewed vigor and narrowed the Holy Land to them.
Terrorists attacking innocent children were torched by the Pakistan Army at the same time and their facilitators reached their end.

US Declares Pakistani Taliban Chief as Global Terrorist
The United States has designated a top Pakistani militant commander as a global terrorist for directing deadly attacks against Pakistan.
The U.S. State Department announced the decision Tuesday, identifying the man as Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud, the head of the outlawed extremist Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commonly known as the Pakistani Taliban.
It noted that under Mehsud’s leadership, TTP has claimed responsibility “for numerous deadly terrorist attacks across Pakistan.” The militant leader is also believed to have fought against U.S. and local forces in neighbouring Afghanistan.
Mehsud was named the leader of TTP in June 2018 following the killing of his predecessor, Mullah Fazlullah, in an American drone strike against his hideout in an eastern Afghan province bordering Pakistan.
For years, TTP has waged a deadly insurgency against the Pakistani state, killing thousands of people.
Tuesday’s State Department announcement also designated as global terrorists 11 other leaders of previously outlawed groups, including Hizballah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, ISIS, ISIS-Philippines and ISIS-West Africa .
The designations deny these terrorists the resources to plan and carry out attacks blocking access to all their property and interests in property subject to U.S. jurisdiction. Americans are generally prohibited from engaging in any transactions with them, the statement explained.
Fazlullah had claimed responsibility for ordering major attacks in Pakistan, including a 2014 school massacre in Peshawar that killed 132 children and the 2012 shooting in the scenic Swat Valley of schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai, who was later awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The United States had also offered a $5 million reward for information on Fazlullah.
Pakistani military officials say sustained counter militancy operations in recent years have eliminated TTP’s bases on their side of the border and most of its militants fled to Afghanistan where they have established sanctuaries.
Islamabad’s often strained ties with Washington has seen improvement in recent months mainly because of Pakistan’s cooperation in U.S.-led Afghan peace efforts.
In July, the U.S. also designated Pakistan’s separatist Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) as a foreign terrorist organization for carrying out deadly attacks against local and Chinese nationals working in Pakistan.

Pakistan: 10 dead after blast near Sufi shrine in Lahore
Suicide bomb attack reportedly targeted security guards at 11th-century site
A suicide bomber has killed at least 10 people and injured 24 outside Lahores Data Darbar, the largest Sufi shrine in south Asia, police in the Pakistani city said.
The attack, which has been claimed by the Pakistani Taliban, took place at about 8.45am local time (4.15am GMT) on Wednesday outside the female entrance to the 11th-century shrine, which has been under heavy guard since it was attacked by terrorists in 2010.
The shells of burnt-out vehicles were scattered near the scene of the explosion. The area was quickly flooded with first responders and armed security personnel.
Muhammad Ashfaq, a senior police official, told a press conference that security personnel at the shrine were targeted.
Three police officials, two security guards and five civilians including a child were among the dead, Usman Buzdar, the chief minister of Punjab province, said.
Hundreds of pilgrims were in and around the shrine when the explosion took place, early in the holy Islamic month of Ramadan. At least 24 people were injured, Ashfaq said.
Pakistans prime minister, Imran Khan, condemned the attack.
A Pakistani Taliban faction claimed responsibility. This attack was carried out at a time when there were no civilians near the police, said Abdul Aziz Yousafzai, spokesman for the Hizbul Ahrar militant group.
The accident and emergency ward at the Mayo hospital in Lahore was crowded after the blast, with the wounded and other people searching for loved ones.
Among them was Azra Bibi, whose son Muhammad Shahid cares for visitors shoes which must be removed before entering the shrine. He has been missing since the blast, she said.
They are not Muslims, she said, referring to the attackers. They even targeted worshippers.
Suicide bombers blew themselves up at the shrine in 2010, killing 50 people and injuring at least 200. Some Islamic extremists regard minority schools of Islam such as Sufism to be heretical.
Pakistan has cracked down on domestic extremist groups since the 2014 Peshawar school massacre, in which more than 150 people, mostly children, were killed.
Security has since improved but militants can still carry out dramatic attacks. An attack in Lahore in March last year left nine people dead, while a blast targeting Christians celebrating Easter in a park in 2016 killed more than 70 people.
Some analysts have argued that periodic crackdowns on violent extremist groups are inadequate unless the government is also willing to confront Islamic fundamentalists who target religious minorities, and whose support is courted by many political parties.

Above is a list of mass shootings that have been the largest in history. various locations have taken place with such horrific acts. It saddened me to know the children who were victims in Sandy Hook. Children who were complete innocent from the world and had their lives taken so early do to the decision of someone to act out on them. We ca only do so much to protect ourselves considering that we never know when an act like that may occur. As we are able to see from the list above that there are no specific place and time. We need to love each other and pass kindness.
