Sometimes I genuinely forget what a big mystery "the author of the journals" tm was to the gravity falls fandom. If I had a chance to tell my 9 y.o self that I know who the guy is, kin him, drew a bunch of fanart with him and also ship him with the goddamn bill cipher she would have had an aneurysm

Okay, I wanna talk about this song and the fear of growing up when it comes to both sets of Pines twins.
This makes me think of Mabel and Dipper, one who wants to grow up too fast and the other who's scared of getting older because it could mean separation from her best friend.
This makes me think of Stan and Ford, both who grew up too fast because of chasing ambitions over slowing down to enjoy life and because of the unfair circumstances the other finds himself in through no fault of his own due to almost no one believing in him.
This makes me think of Stan's fear of losing his best friend to growing up and leaving for college instead of sailing away together. This makes me think of Ford's intense desire to achieve great things to feel useful and worth something. This makes me think of Stan's need to make up for stuff he doesn't need to make up for because he feels like he HAS TO be useful to be loved. This makes me think of Ford's fear of not being enough, so he must be more than anyone else to make up for it.
This makes me think of Dipper wanting nothing more than to be older and be taken seriously. This makes me think of Mabel wanting to chase boys as a means to be older, but only because she felt like she'd still have Dipper by her side anyway. This reminds me of Dipper wanting to chase after ambitions offered by someone who grew up too fast. This reminds me of Mabel almost losing her best friend to someone who grew up too fast.
This reminds me of kids becoming 25 and adults becoming tall children. This reminds me of the scary parts of growing up in a world always changing. This reminds me of the nostalgia of childhood, the lingering and fading memories of warmth laughter and family bonding by a campfire.
This reminds me of both sets of the Pines twins.

like idk man it feels like im the only one unhappy with season 2 of gravity falls entirely. addressing the questions and curiosities introduced in season 1 head-on (made even worse by Ford's role as The Answer Machine™) was what took away a lot of its magic. idfk maybe i just prefer ambiguity over answers when it comes to mysteries. it's like if Over The Garden Wall got a sequel and they spent the whole time walking back every detail of What The Unknown Is, no room for interpretation, and introduced a character whose only role was to look directly into the camera and say "Kids, You Were In Purgatory The Whole Time!"

To the GF fandom: Which year do you think Gravity Falls happened?
As we know, Hirsch has not specified an exact date, although the writers did drop hints that favors either 2012 or 2013.
Points for 2012:
The show premiered in 2012
A calendar Stan showed in the Summerween episode is most likely June 2012
Tax forms in Bottomless Pit showed 2012
Unsubtle variations of other years mentioned (e.g. 3012 or 207~012)
Mabel mentions of a leap year in The Inconvenicing
Ford said he arrived in Gravity Falls in 1975, and mentions in Journal 3 it has been six years since he's arrived (1981). The Portal Incident happened in Jan 1982, the year after. It's said Ford spent 30 years in the multiverse, and Stan spent 30 years to get his brother back.
Points for 2013
The 30 years Stan and Ford mentioned could be approximate
The Great Flood happened in 1863, and the ghost returned 150 years later to unleash his curse (though it could be 150 years from when the mansion was constructed, not completed)
Sev'ral Timez members saying 2013 instead of 2012 (though it was due to the episode premiering in 2013).

I don’t know if people who don’t live in Ontario get this but this is the funniest thing ever. “The lord of Ottawa”. “The smaller towns in the GTA?”. This is so funny. I can’t stop giggling. Will he make reference to Ontario in-jokes? Will there be a “Lord of the Shawa” or a reference to “Scarberia”. It’s too good. I’m gonna fucking explode if we see Barrie or Hamilton.

Tumblr media
5. "Ford v Ferrari" (2019) - James Mangold directed this biopic about automobile designer Carroll Shelby and racer Ken Miles, who were hired by the Ford Motor Company to lead a team to build a race car that would defeat the perennially dominant Italian racing team Scuderia Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France. Matt Damon and Christian Bale.
Tumblr media
6. "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" (2006) - Adam McKay wrote and directed this sports comedy about an immature yet successful NASCAR driver. Will Farrell starred.
Tumblr media
7. "The Great Race" (1965) - Blake Edwards directed and co-wrote this comedic and fictionalized account of the 1908 New York to Paris Race. Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Natalie Wood starred.

8. "Grand Prix" (1966) - John Frankenheimer directed this story about the fate of four Formula One drivers through a fictionalized version of the 1966 Formula One season. James Garner, Eva Marie Saint and Yves Montand starred.
Tumblr media
9. "Viva Las Vegas" (1964) - Elvis Presley and Ann-Margaret starred in this musical comedy about a romance between a race car driver competing in Las Vegas' first annual Grand Prix race and a hotel swimming instructor. George Sidney directed.
