If I'm Of No Use, Then Why Am I Still Here?

Leo couldn't be happier that his brothers are really growing into themselves and expanding their social circles.

He's excited for them in finding new hobbies and interests that take up their time... a lot of their time... pretty much all of it.

It's fine that they're not as interested in training anymore, or running patrols because Karai's Foot Clan is doing very well to keep the streets of New York safe.

Leo didn't give to much thought to his Halloween costume, figuring the trench coat he'd worn years ago during his vampire hunter phase was good enough. When Casey pouts over it however he decides to try another, equally last minute costume, but one he think his secret boyfriend will enjoy much more. Casey on the other hand very much knows his costumes going to be a big hit. At least, for Leo it will be.

You lost a bet to Mikey?” Deciding that Casey had been with them long enough it wasn’t surprising that he managed to figure it out that fast, Leo met his smirk with a flat stare. “No. I just thought I’d try out a new wardrobe.” Casey snickered at his sass, putting the hand towel back before joining his side at the island. “You should stick with it. It’s a good look for ya Blue.”

Or, Leo loses a bet which leaves him to be the one on cooking duty for the night, in the girlest apron Mikey could find. Casey's not complaining on the new look and is quick to insert himself in the role of helping out to make sure he doesn't burn the whole lair down.

I'm just sitting and wondering whose Casey Junior's sensei for the Mutant Mashup Au (created by me and @possumsarenice).

Tbh Future DaVinci would be the obvious choice, being the oldest and having really good ninja skills makes him good mentor material. In 2012 canon Leo is shown being good with kids all things considered so that would extend to DaVinci. Omg I just remembered Chloe. What if he trained the two and they grew up as siblings?

It'll be way more heart wrenching once Junior has to leave them behind and jump through the time portal. Chloe most likely died minuets before he did too, Junior probably didn't even realize and most likely never will. (Sorry Junior, but the turtle curse decrees that I must bestow the trauma)

Moving on before I ramble about that idea. Future Blue is obviously also a sensei, though in this au he'd probably teach Casey Junior how to be evasive compared to DaVinci, who'd focus more on attacks and techniques. Blue and DaVinci probably taught him together and thus, would both be called sensei. To avoid confusion, I think Junior would call DaVinci, Master, and Blue, Sensei.

We didn't get much info on future Splinter in the Rise movie so he most likely passed away. However, in the Au, both Yoshi and Lou would've been alive long enough to have met Casey Junior as a baby. They both died before Junior could remember them properly, but the turtles, O'Neil's, and Casey made sure to tell him stories about them. Junior calls them Grand Master's Yoshi and Lou.

Of course there's another way of looking at things. Maybe DaVinci died before ever even meeting Junior and is either called Master or Uncle as a sign of respect.

Future Sanzio's also a sensei candidate, like it or not he's a softie for little ones, and would totally want to teach and take care of Casey Junior. (Honestly though, Zio and Future Red act as Junior's dad's more than sensei's). I think Sanzio also wants to protect Junior because Casey was his best friend, right next to Cassandra, so the attachment was unreal.

Speaking of Future Casey, I wanna say he died midway through the invasion and spent a good portion of time being the world's best uncle. He'd definitely encourage Junior to commit as much chaos as possible. He was the one to take care of Junior most often because Junior was all he had left of Cass after she died. Even if the kid wasn't actually her's, Cass saved him for a reason and Casey'll be damned if he didn't make sure Junior lived through the apocalypse like she wanted. Casey probably died sacrificing himself to save a bunch of people, maybe alongside DaVinci.

Future Niccolo and Purple are terrifying, especially when making weapons. They always made weapons. It was a necessity honestly, but those two had a blast making things that blew up, consider it a coping mechanism for both of them. That never stopped, even after Nico transferred his soul into a robot he designed. (The fact that 2012 Donnie became a robot as an adult is canon has me very concerned. Especially since Red did the same in this Au).

As a (rather painful) note: Nico always knew he would become a robot in the end. Even if he was the second to last Hamato standing, Nico would've done everything in his power to stay alive. This is because he knows he needs his family and couldn't bear leaving them even if it meant he could live on and watch over them as a spirit alongside his father.

Of course, Future Simoni is up there reigning as best uncle, not the favorite because that honor goes to Casey. He did a lot of crazy stuff and gave the Kraang the most grief in fights. Simon wasn't the most powerful but he was the most slippery and pissed off the Kraang the most. The Kraang hated that Simon fought like it was nothing and took that as an insult to their power.

ROTTMNT Headcanons!

All the turtles are neurodivergent. All of them.

Casey didn't let Casey Jr steal her name, so now everyone calls him Junior or CJ. He doesn't mind, he's just glad to have his mom back.

April and Sunita actually knew eachother from when they were younger. There was a time where Sunita stole a cloacking broach? (I forgot its name), ran away for a while and went to kindergarten for a day. Her and April got along immediately. They can't remember meeting before now, but it did happen.

When he was younger, Raph was more... angry. A bit more like the 2012 version. He felt horrible when he accidentally hurt one of his brothers, so Splinter taught him how to channel his anger in a healthy way. He still snaps sometimes.

When he was younger, Leo decided that he didn't like himself. Like, at all. So he changed everything he was until he became what he is now, the face man (and later on the leader).

He still hates how he turned out to be sometimes though.

Mikey not only paints, but also makes sculptures! He uses Leo as a model because he loves making cool poses. A while after they met April, he started using her as a model too because he never saw a human up close and he wants to learn how their anatomy is so he can draw her in the family portraits he makes.

All the siblings have their own way of making art. Donnie's good a blueprints, Raph makes plushies, Leo designs clothes, Mikey draws and April reaaally good at music. Mostly singing.

Donnie made Raph a special knitting thingy because he can't hold the normal ones. His hands are too big.

Leo was bored, scrolling through the internet and saw a video about clothes and thought “huh. I could do something better than that” and it turned out that he could, in fact, design something better than what he saw.

April sings a lot. While baking (she sucks at cooking), when she's playing videogames, in home when there's no one around, etc.

April's mom isn't around much because she has a fulltime job, so April invites the turtles to hang out almost every week.

Casey is really good at strategizing. She's more of a blunt force person but she makes a plan, and a backup plan, as she rushes into battle. She's similar to Leo in that way, so they always play strategy games thing to beat eachother. Their matches last hours.

Leo once was really upset. He didn't know what was the exact reason, but he felt like he was just a liability. So, since most people complained about him always talking all the time, he decided to shut up. It didn't last even an hour, because when he went to get breakfast he realized that when his brothers say that he's annoying they don't mean it seriously. Really, they were so worried about him.

Leo, April and Sunita go to April's house to gossip. They also invite Mikey sometimes.

Leo's actually really good at cooking. He just adds whatever he wants whenever he wants, so sometimes what he makes tastes like a god made it, and sometimes they're so horrible Donnie faints at the sight of it (once. That happened once, and Donnie will never let it go).

Mikey cooks when he's upset. After the Shredder, and also after the movie, he started cooking a lot more. He disguised it as him wanting to let Casey Jr try as many stuff as he can (which is true), but no one really believes that that's the only reason. They don't talk about it though, and Mikey's grateful about it.

The boys have no healthy coping mechanisms. Only like two each one.

It took them a while (years. It took them years) to warm up to Draxum, but once they did, they started to think of him as Dad too. Mikey called him that from the start, but the others didn't. Leo almost cried when he found out.

Leo jokes about disowning Draxum because of the roof incident. Donnie jokes (kind of) about disowning Leo because of everything in his life.

We all know that Raph has separation anxiety, but it got a lot worse after the movie, to the point where he had to know where the others were going or else he'd worry himself sick. It took months for him to relax a bit, but it was still a huge issue.

Mind Raph is actually a manifestation of the boys mystic powers and they never realized it. It's a branch of the mind meld thing (we need more of that. Like the creators told us the boys can link their thoughts and they never talked about it ever again?? The potential it had was huge).

Tmnt 2012: The Next Gen. Au headcanons + OCs

(Mostly putting this here so I don’t loose my ideas)

General:

The turtles are 20+ for context

Raph (he/they)and Mona (she/they) are married and live close by in another part of the sewers with their kids (I will get to that soon).

Leia/Leo/Lee (Leonardo)(she/her) is still leader but it’s more of a relaxed role, enjoys gardening (like idw Leo) and occasionally space travels. She came out as trans a few months after Rigel visited earth for the first time.

Donnie (biologically female, prefers he/him pronouns) pretty much takes care of the layer while Leia is away, has a side job as a tech support agent (like 2007), takes care of Leia’s garden when she’s off world.

Mikey (uses any pronouns) spends most of his time at Casey’s flat. Casey and them kind of became a thing one day and it just made sense. Mikey does a lot of art like sculpting and painting.

Casey (he/she) got a job working at a tattoo parlor, after a while he was taken on as an apprentice after the shop owner saw his drawings. Casey took to it like a natural.

April (she/her) got into NYU and studied journalism, she’s still friends with the turtles and Casey, but she has to travel a bit to see them now a days with her job on the other side of the city.

My Oc’s:

Avery (later Hamato Avery) (she/her)

Avery was a normal wildlife biologist until after returning from a research trip, was accidentally hit with mutagen and transformed into a mutant pine martin. Donnie finds her huddled in an alley by one of the entrances to the layer. Donnie allows her to make refuge in the layer until he can make up a batch of mutagen to turn her back. After living with Donnie and meeting his family she starts having second thoughts about turning back to human. After the mutagen is finished, she decides to stay as a mutant and continues to stay with Donnie and they become a couple.

Hamato ‘Rose’ Roseline (she/her)

Daughter of Donatello and Avery, she’s a hybrid of her parents, pine martin and turtle. She was created in Donnie’s lab. She’s the third oldest of the next gen. group. Her weapon of choice is a naginata and throwing stars. She’s incredibly gifted at stealth and climbing high buildings (which gives Donnie a heart attack most days). She’s a nerd like her parents and loves playing with her baby cousins and is really close with Elisa (Mikey’s daughter).

Captain Rigel (he/him)

He’s an alien, of a species called the Basali. They look like tall basilisk lizards (kind of like the Salamandrians). Met him on a planet known to be a vacation destination, while on shore leave. Leia was an absolute disaster trying to flirt with him, but luckily Rigel thought Leia’s bad flirting was cute. Writes Leia often and they spend time together when Rigel is on shore leave.

Hamato Yoshi jr. (He/him)

Sometimes called Junior. Son of Rigel and Leia. He’s a Basali-turtle hybrid, made with Donnie’s help in his lab. The youngest of the next gen. group but is the tallest (taking after captn dad). He uses double katanas like Leia. Is still learning a lot of ninjitsu and gets frustrated when he messes up, he doesn’t want to let his cousins down.

Hamato Elisa (she/they)

Mikey and Casey’s daughter. Adopted after she was rescued from a research lab. Is a eastern box turtle mutant. Second oldest of the next gen. group. Uses modified yo-yos as her weapons. Took her a long time to come out of her shell (literally) around her new family. Is incredibly close to Rose.

Hamato ‘Gio’ Giovanni (he/him)

Is a turtle-salamandrian hybrid. Is the eldest of the next gen. group, by at least two years; four years older than Yoshi. Is the leader and very protective of his cousins. Hot headed like his papa Raph but can keep control when need be. Uses a range of different weapons from Sais to a Kanabo, throwing stars to kunai. Versed in many fighting styles. Admires his grandpa Splinter although never got to meet him.

Kids ages:

Gio- 17, Elisa- 15, Rose- 15 (a couple of months younger than Elisa), Yoshi jr.- 13.

Other cousins:

Luna (Yoshi’s baby sister) 5yo, Frida (Gio’s sister) 15 yo., Enzo (Elisa’s baby brother) 4 yo, Mei (Enzo’s twin and Eliza’s baby sister) 4yo.

I would greatly appreciate requests or suggestions for Kiera and Nicola

I wanna write but I have zero ideas. I wrote more about them below so prompters have more to work from.

Here's a brief timeline:

They met when Kiera was at Nicola's Uni for an exchange program in spring of '07

Nicola transferred to Kiera's Uni to start his second year, fall of '07.

Kiera graduated in Spring of '09

Nicola (barely) graduated the spring of '10

They got married in 2012

They had their first son, Callum, in 2013

They had their second son, Leo in 2016

Nicola has been in inpatient mental health care since late 2016

Why is he in inpatient, you ask? He’s schizophrenic. Here’s some details on that:

It didn't really start to manifest until they'd been together a few years.

A lot of it is influenced by his overall terrible experiences in the church when he was younger, and the two main voices in his head are a manifestation/amalgamation of all the corrupt/hypocritical/etc religious figures he grew up around.

He worries a lot about the end of the world and is plagued with that classic Catholic Guilt™.

Though he'd been symptomatic for a while, Nicola didn't get bad until later, after Callum was born. He had a few really bad episodes followed by short psych holds, but for a while there were more calms than storms.

Leo was conceived during one of the calms, but after he was born, Nicola got a lot worse.

He actually committed himself voluntarily during a lucid moment because he realized he was a danger to his family (and himself, but he didn't really care about that part).

He's gone through a lot of experimenting with antipsychotics, but medicating mental health is fucking difficult. There was one that seemed to be working for a while, but the side effects got too severe to continue taking it.

At the moment he's spending his time talking to a shrink he low-key wants to strangle and trying new drug cocktails in hopes they eventually find one that steadies his brain without melting his other organs.

Kiera tries to visit fairly often, but the institution isn't super close to home and she either has to bring the kids or find someone to watch them

They write each other a lot, though sometimes Nicola's letters are a bit of a mess, especially if the meds of the day are messing with him. Kiera's just happy to hear from him, and she tries to have the boys draw a picture or something to go in the envelope.

And here's some more general info about them:

Kiera works at a small antique jewelry shop. She also makes and sells her own jewelry online.

Nicola has worked a lot of random retail jobs, and is currently unemployed. 

Kiera likes to garden in her free time. She grows both food and flowers, and loves to make jams, preserves, pickles, etc.

Nicola likes to write music and poetry, but he doesn’t plan or want to make either a career.  He doesn't really have a career goal.

Kiera likes to bake, and she especially likes making things with her fresh fruit.

Nicola likes cooking (which is good cause he’s much better at it than Kiera). He’s the type who will put on music in the kitchen and just live there all afternoon.

Kiera is more introverted, while Nicola is more outgoing and social. In uni, he was definitely the one who wanted to go to parties, and he's the one who likes hosting parties now that they're adults with a home. He respects that she isn't big on huge crowds, though, so parties aren't huge or frequent.

They both love coffee. Kiera drinks machiattos or lattes, iced in the summer. Nicola prefers cappuccino no matter the temperature.

Kiera can't hold her alcohol well at all, and rarely drinks as a result.

Nicola can handle his liquor, but he'd rather just have a glass of wine with dinner.

Kiera gets carsick, and motion in general did her in badly when she was pregnant.

Nicola is generally the hardier of the two. He has a good immune system and doesn't really get motion sick either.

Despite his bad history with the church, Nicola is still religious. He definitely believes in God, just maybe not God exactly as his parents and priests put it.

Kiera grew up in a more positive but still very Catholic household, and she's always had a very strong faith. But she's struggling because she feels like despite doing everything right and practically turning her house into a shrine for the patron saint of mental health, Nicola hasn't gotten any better.

Nicola has both his parents, all his grandparents, two brothers, and a sister, as well as many aunts and uncles and cousins. He’s not close with any of them, though, except his baby sister, Carmelita (I say baby cause she’s fifteen years younger). She writes and calls all the time.

Kiera has both her parents, but only her maternal grandparents. She two younger siblings - sister Erin and brother Casey. Erin is only a year younger, so they’re very close. She also has like a dozen cousins, and is on good terms with nearly all of them. She’s especially close to Siofra, as Sheef, Kiera, and Erin are the only girl cousins on that side of the family (besides one who’s twenty years their junior)

Callum looks just like Nicola, except he has Kiera's green eyes. He has a good relationship with his dad because he's old enough to remember a time when Nicola was more stable. He really idolizes his dad, though he may be taking after Nicola in some less fortunate ways as well. He's very rambunctious and a bit of a troublemaker, but not malicious.

Leo looks like Kiera, but he got his father's blue eyes. He doesn’t remember Nicola being home at all, but he still likes to visit his dad. He's not as fiesty as his brother, but he's very curious. He's sweet and sensitive - shy like his mum, but creative like his dad.

Never Say Goodbye

Although the series is over it's never the end for our favorite turtle brothers. As long as we, the fans, keep them in our hearts then this beautiful series will live on. It's certainly been a fun five years. I remember seeing previews for these guys on tv in the summer of 2012. I was a junior in high school --HOLY SHELL-- when the new Nick cartoon of Turtles aired, and I've been following along ever since. I had a real difficult time my last two years in high school, and I fondly recall Friday nights spent watching the new episodes. It gave me something to look forward to. It provided me a 30 minute escape. For a half hour every week (excluding those famous hiatus periods we all groaned over) I was able to lose myself in the incredible world of Ninja Turtles. And for that I am extremely grateful. The best thing I got out of this show were the friends I've made. In 2013 I came across a Raphael roleplay account on another website, which inspired me to create one for my favorite turtle: Leonardo. That Raphael roleplayer turned out to be one of my closest and dearest friends. Ever. @hazy-reverie Feb 19, 2013- Raphael: "Leo!" Raph called, walking over. "Well it's about time.. where've you been anyway?" Thanks for making a Leo account. Been waiting for ya! Leonardo: Heh, thanks. This is going to be so fun roleplaying with you guys! Book Review: Andy Lee and Niall Kelly’s Fighter

Boxing has been around since at least 688 BC, when the ancient Greeks made it into an Olympic game, but its modern history has often been controversial. To quote Joe Frazier, the first boxer to beat Muhammad Ali, “Boxing is the only sport you can get your brain shook, your money took and your name in the undertaker book.” Many deem the sport barbaric, but it is not for this blog post to decry or defend boxing, especially having read the extraordinary story of Andy Lee.

Far from an expert on Boxing, I came across this book completely by accident, and I’m glad I did. The book was shortlisted for the An Post Irish Book Awards Bord Gáis Energy Sports Book of the Year Award upon its publication in 2018, and it also made the long list for the William Hill sports book prize. The idiom “Don’t judge a book by its cover” doesn’t apply here. Almost everything you need to know about Fighter, and about Andy Lee, can be discerned from the cover of this book. Lee is, by all accounts, victorious, as the photo clearly shows. However, there is no triumphant swagger, no showy display of supremacy. Moreover, looking closely at the cover, we see that the face of the opponent has been obscured, as Lee himself states,

 “I went out of my way to have the face changed because I didn’t want him to have to see it,” he says. “He doesn’t deserve that, it wouldn’t be right. It could easily be me lying on the floor. And this could be him writing a book about the career he went on to have. And if somebody did that to me, if someone put me on the cover like that, I’d be going mad.”

So the idea is that it’s a boxer, just a fighter who took a punch. It’s not him. That’s not that point of it. We went over the cover a lot of times. It’s a great photograph and it tells the story.

Regarding Lee’s personality, nothing could be more revealing: “If you look at me walking away, I’m not celebrating wildly or anything. I’ve been in a battle and that one punch could have finished me for the night just as it finished him. I’m just as hurt as he is – the difference is that he is on the ground.” You would be hard-pressed to find a negative description of Andy Lee. From the press to the public, he has consistently been described as a gentleman, a true role model, with the Irish sports website Pundit Arena summing him up best, 'Lee was a good fighter but he’s an even better human being.' In a business where showmen and blowhards prevail, Lee, as one critic has noted, was always the most decent guy in the room. In his case, he disproves Nietzsche who said, “He who fights too long against dragons becomes a dragon himself.”

A former Irish Olympian boxer, former world champion, freshly retired in early 2018 with a record of 35 wins from 39 pro fights, Andy Lee’s Fighter is the quintessential story of a young boy on the margins of society who made it to the top. Lee competed from 2006 to 2017, held the WBO middleweight title from 2014 to 2015, and in doing so became the first member of the travelling community to win a major world title. Lee was born in London to Irish Traveller parents in 1984 who returned to Limerick in 1998. The book shows how he had to deal with bullying when he was in school, where the other kids would sing at him, “We all live in a yellow caravan, a yellow caravan, a yellow caravan...” He left school at 13, even though he was bright enough to get into the top class when he started secondary school. His determination to stay true to himself, despite the suffocating “rules” of the Travelling Community which, among them, forbids relationships between people from the settled and travelling communities, saw him bring a settled girl home to meet his father, who had forbidden Lee to do so. Lee, however, was a formidable judge of character, and knew that his father and the settled girl, now his wife, the musician, writer and actor Maud Lee, would hit it off, and he was right.  Fighter is not just an account of a boxer’s career. It is also a love story. Lee spends much time on his relationship with Maud in the book, and it is obvious that the two share an incredibly close bond. He recalls the early days of meeting Maud,

“I know we’re from different worlds, that this isn’t how it works. I know that bright, brilliant, educated young women from South County Dublin who have the world at their feet don’t end up with a gypsy boxer from Limerick via London who left school at 13. She must know it too, but she doesn’t care. I tell her everything honestly, about my life, my heritage, my family, anything that she would want to know.”

As regards his Gypsy heritage, Lee neither defines himself by it, nor does he eschew it. As he says, “It’s not something I’ve ever really shouted about but it’s not something I ever shied away from either. I am who I am – I don’t have to be singing from the rooftops. I’m not a campaigner in any sense. I could be. But I only represent myself. Maybe I could have some impact.” Generally, Traveller kids leave education after primary school in order to learn ‘traditional skills’ at home. For boys, this means trades such as bricklaying or tree-cutting, as well as learning to do odd jobs. Meanwhile, the girls must learn how to clean to impeccable standards, as well as how to cook and to care for younger siblings. Once the eldest daughter has left school, Traveller mums take a step back and leave her in charge. Lee’s journey shows that an alternate route is possible, and this is something he did hope his book might be able to achieve, as he states in an interview,

 “And maybe it’ll be some way for a young Traveller or Gypsy to change how they think as well if they read it. Maybe they will get a sense that they have more options than they think they do in life. Because it is a very restricted life. I say it in the book – you are brought up in a world where you have two choices, you have a world of crime or a world of work from a young age. That’s basically it when you’re a kid in that world. You don’t know much beyond it.”

 Although things are changing, with more children in the Travelling community staying in school, and going on to earn degrees at University, the customs and traditions of the Travelling community are difficult to overcome, and many stay within the rigid confines of these customs.

For Lee, boxing was the route to a different life, and his family stayed firmly by his side throughout. The book describes his first workout in the Kronk Gym in Detroit, when he steps into the ring to the call of “fresh meat, fresh meat” and, respect earned, steps out to the comment that “This white boy can box”. Under the tutelage of Emanuel Steward, who trained 41 world champions throughout his career, in 2014, following 18 straight unanswered punches, Lee defeated Korobov to claim the world title, the first time since 1934 that an Irish fighter earned such a victor on US soil. The book chronicles the relationship between Lee and Steward, the years that Lee lived in the Steward family house, how the two drifted apart and then, finally, the poignant deathbed reconciliation as Steward passed away in 2012. The book gives captivating insights into the relationship between the two men. Lee learned a great deal from Steward; as Lee recounts, it seems that Steward’s mastery was in the little details. He instructed Lee how to put sellotape on his laces and protective cup so they didn’t come loose or fall down during a fight. Instead of putting Vaseline on his face, Steward told Lee to apply cocoa butter, “Everyone laughs at me when they hear that,” says Lee, “but I don’t get cut anymore.”

The book contains a host of fascinating anecdotes, glimpses into Lee’s private world, as he describes the Christmas Eve in Dublin after just signing his pro contract, with himself and Maud on George’s Street where they “stop at the ATM as the crowds rush on around us. I enter my pin code and the two of us stand, staring at the balance on the screen.” Also, when preparing for that redemptive night in Las Vegas in the ring with Korobov, Lee tells us how he constantly wrote in his notebook – law of attraction style - “I will become world champion.” His descriptions of his time in the ring are also captivating. As Lee acknowledges himself, in boxing, defeats are often much more interesting than victories. Unsurprisingly, the story of his first two defeats and the shattering impact they have on his career progression are fascinating. He showcases his resilience as he twice rebuilt his career, losing his 15th pro-fight and then the title fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Junior in El Paso. It is his win over John Jackson that forced me onto YouTube, amazed at how Lee, seemingly on course for defeat, at the mercy of Jackson, up against the ropes, comes back to deliver one of the greatest knockouts in boxing history.

Lee’s story is a compelling insight into the thoughts of a boxer who made it to the top without the need to exude brash arrogance. On 20 February 2018, Lee confirmed his retirement from boxing on Irish radio station Newstalk, on the Off The Ball sports programme, citing responsibilities as a father for why he had chosen to retire, “I got out having achieved what I wanted and having secured my future to a certain extent – not that I’m set for life or anything but I can go out for a Chinese on a Saturday and not worry about it.”

Ultimately, Fighter is intense, emotional and funny, and Lee’s humility and honesty make the book an engrossing and inspirational read. The universally acknowledged “lovely guy” most definitely refutes the common aphorism, based on a quote from 1946 by another famous sportsman, American baseball player, manager and coach Leo Durocher, “Nice guys finish last”.
