• A lot of people were jealous of the things I have , but I found myself to be quite possessive with things that I like as well (i.e accessories, clothes, brands. I didn't like when other people were copying me lol)

• I felt like an "IT" girl fashion wise, everyone started to do what I did

• I felt the need to stand out in terms of beauty & fashion. I wanted to look different.

•It was definitely a lesson I had to learn this year. Unconsciously I believed that the things I own defined me (explains the possessiveness).I don't think so anymore though! I feel flattered now lol. Lesson learnt.

Thinking about the scenario where secret agent reader (so like CIA or MI6 and things like that) meets Gaz at a bar and scores. Drinks and talking and dancing, until Gaz suggests you go back to his place. Once there, before things get steamy, you excuse yourself to the bathroom to freshen up and get ready, but it's actually to stash away your hidden weapons you carry with yourself all the time. Two men by the door, performing a sweep across the dance floor in opposing schedules. They're standing in front of the primary exit with another guard standing at the emergency exit. The solo guard appears 5'10-5'11, weighing around 200lbs and the bruised knuckles means he's accustomed to rowdy customers and bar fights. Based on his wide stance, I could probably sweep at his leg befor- "Hey, want to take this back to mine?" Kyle's voice whispered in your ear, interrupting your covert surveillance. You blinked a few times as you took in his offering. It was difficult for you to shut off your years of CIA training and actually relax for once. Even now, you were slightly suspicious of this unemployed and handsome 20-something who was holding you by the waist at the bar. Yet since he locked eyes with you in the crowded room, it was clear the tension was palpable. Before he could ask again, you put a hand on his.

"Is it close or do you plan on carrying me, Kyle?" you winked, and even under the dim lights, you could see his cheeks slightly heat up. As he tried to stifle down the remainder of his drink, you decided to interrogate him a bit more before he took you to his. "Your silence is telling me, you haven't been to the gym in a while," you teased as you eyed his fit figure, "you look like you're more of a cardio man anyways." He shook his head at your not-so-subtle observations, having an endearing chuckle at the comment. "Well you did say my dancing looked like some silly American MMA thing," you giggled as he said that. It was just a sarcastic comment you made as you saw him methodically make his way across the dance floor, dodging the various drinks and drunken moves of the other patrons. "Anyways," he continued, downing his drink, "you might have just revealed my love for some combat training." With that, he gave you a wink and you melted in your seat. You found yourself endeared by his subtle jokes and shining smile. It made you push aside all the stress of work and effortlessly lie through your teeth about your hidden life.

After you closed your tab, Kyle held the door for you and ushered you politely out of the loud club. He walked beside you, hand in pockets and a relaxed smile on his face, as he navigated through the streets. You made small talk about some of the wild moments from the club and the fact you had both spent a fortune on drinks and shots. "Glad I saved up for this vacation," you lied, continuing with your story of an American tourist in London, "the 9-5 was all worth it for some strong drinks and a pretty face." In the cold night air, you could see his face become illuminated with the street light and the way his cheeks curved up in a hearty laugh. "You Americans and your toxic work culture," he chided as he bumped you with his elbow, "hopefully I can show you how to take it slow tonight." You blushed profusely at the comment and bit your lip as Kyle took a turn to a row of flats. 

"This one's mine," he whispered and fumbled to find his keys. You stood there idly as you looked down at the street. It seemed quiet, nothing, particularly of notice. In fact, if you were looking for a safe house this would be ideal as it was perfectly tucked in between mundane families. "Home sweet home," he presented and you walked into the furnished flat. You peeked around and noticed the lack of personality within the home besides some paintings and postcards. A thin layer of dust lay amongst everything and the house smelled distinctly of a wall plug-in, probably bought this morning. He noticed your gaze and shrugged slightly. "I haven't had time to make this place nice," he sheepishly confessed, "been helping out with my family for the last few weeks." You nodded before you walked closer to him. "So what do you want to do now that I'm here?" you flirted before you closed the gap with a soft placement of your lips on his.

You felt a mix of happiness and uncertainty in your stomach. To the special agent inside you, it was the sign things were going a bit too well. But to the normal person, it was the presence of butterflies in your stomach. He tasted of a mix of alcohols and smelled vaguely of wood and santal. He wrapped his strong arms around you as you shuffled backward to the bedroom. You could feel him lower you softly onto the bed before you pulled him a bit closer with your arms around his neck. As he pulled up to look at you in this vulnerable state, you realized you were being poked by an object. Your mind went to a certain place for a moment until you realized it was actually the knife strapped to your thigh that was poking you. Your face dropped when you realized where things were going. You hastily pushed Kyle off of you before running off unceremoniously to the bathroom. "Sorry just have to pee! Those drinks are running through me," you joked through the door as you navigated to the master bathroom across the room.

"Take your time," you could hear him echo through the door as you put down the toilet seat. You looked around the small bathroom and tried to figure out where to hide the knife. More like knives, you thought when you realized you had another two strapped to your boot. "Oh fuck me," you whispered as you tried to look around. Within the bathroom, there was a small medicine cabinet with a mirror and a few drawers underneath the sink. You flushed the toilet hurriedly and ran the sink as you opened up the bottom drawer ever so carefully. When you opened it, you were not expecting to see another collection of tactical knives and a gun facing back at you. You tried to stifle your surprise as you gently picked up the firearm. You turned it to see it was inscribed with PROPERTY OF THE ROYAL ARMY etched into the side. You placed it down gently as underneath it lay an official-looking ID. You read the details quickly as you focused on the serious face of one Sergeant Kyle Garrick. You looked at the picture resembling the man in the next room, verifying all of the signature markings of an official government ID. "You alright in there?" you could hear his question as you quickly shut the drawer. You hastily turned off the tap before returning to the bedroom.

Kyle was lying casually on the bed and you could tell he had generously sprayed some vanilla room spray to cover up the mustiness of the unattended flat. Explains the dust and lack of furnishings, you thought as you stood leaning against the doorway. "Find anything interesting?" he flatly asked and you couldn't help but be caught off guard for the first time this evening. "What do you mean?" you bluffed but he stopped you with a flick of his hand. "The sink was running for a bit too long," he joked, "plus I know what those drawers sound like when they slam." You let out a dry laugh before sitting back next to him. "Well, I guess I should say I did find something," you said as you looked at his eyes, mixed with uncertainty, "you really should keep your weapons in a better location." As he tried to come up with a myriad of excuses, you put a hand on your chest. "As long as you don't mind if I put mine away, I won't question it, Sergeant," with that, Kyle tried to hide his surprise as you unsheathed your weapons from your person. "Do I want to know?" he joked hesitantly before you made your way on top of him. "You can ask in the morning, Garrick."

The next morning, you raced over to your hotel and barely made it to your 9 am meeting in the office suite. "Wonder who Laswell has me working with now," you mumbled as you nodded to the agents guarding the secured room. You should have seen the look on your face when you locked eyes with Kyle, who sat equally as shocked and secretly sporting a hickey underneath his uniform collar.

Tiger Sharks - S.R x gn! reader

Okay, hi! This is one of I think two spencer fics to come out on this specific date. This is the first one and I am posting bc it's my birthday and to celebrate the turn of a decade in my life I am writing a lot of stuff instead of being existential about turning 20.

Also, on a different note, my requests are open to pretty much any of the agents on Criminal Minds but I am especially partial to hotch, reid, alvez, and morgan. I am unemployed at the time of writing this and I have nothing to do but write, knit, and re-caffeinate so I will take literally anything you throw at me, I am that desperate, and things will come out pretty quickly unless I get a job miraculously.

Fic type - this is like if fluff and another nonspecific genre of fluff had a weird baby and it came out to be the fluffiest fluff ever.

Warnings - technically not a warning so to speak but I adore glasses reid so this is an early seasons fic. Not set between any episodes but indeed set after Elles departure because while I love her, I also love prentiss. On a more serious note, though, sharks are mentioned and yapped about a lot (I love sharks, I projected by accident and I am not editing it out bc I adore sharks) and booze + being drunk are mentioned and depicted.

"People!" Penelope starts as she rushes out into the bullpen. You have just settled at your desk for the day, resigned to writing case reports while you listen to whichever music you have most recently loaded onto your iPod. "I am so dreadfully bored on this overcast morning, please tell me if one of you has plans that you wouldn't mind me butting in on?"

She walks over to you, sets a mug of tea on your desk and smiles back giddily when you smile at her.

"What about you? Birthday plans?"

With Spencer, to order pizza, watch a documentary that you locate on whichever channel has one playing at the time, and then eat a four dollar Walmart cake without cutting it into slices.

"No," you shake your head. "I don't really like birthdays, so I don't make too much of a point in celebrating my own."

You and Spencer are, as a unit, not new to anybody. He'd joined under Gideons wing at the age of 21, you'd been recruited to join by Hotch only a couple months later, just after your twenty-first birthday.

He's only four months older than you, in the grand scheme of things, and the age difference being that small means that you, him, JJ and Garcia are like four peas in a pod.

If, of course, two of those peas had been dating for the better part of three and a half years, and had cleared that with Hotch and Gideon after you'd been dating three months, and then had simply forgotten to tell anyone else.

Garcia gives you a pout, and you glance at Spencer. The two of you have gotten pretty good at tuning Garcia out over the last three-ish years since she'd joined up, and he's wrapped up in a conversation with JJ and Emily anyway.

"Nothing?" She asks. "Not celebrating a birthday is a crime! You've gotta have something planned."

You shake your head. "No," you murmur. "I hate birthdays. I turned twenty-five. Big whoop. I'll have a big birthday thing in five more years, when I hit thirty. That's a milestone, so it matters."

Garcia laughs, sits down in the chair next to your desk, sets her chin in the palm of her hand, and sighs.

"You're so cynical," she says. "Makes sense that you and Gideon get along as well as you do."

You laugh a little bit. "Yeah," you nod. "He and Hotch also like that I am efficient, so it all works out. I'm sorry, Penny."

"Don't apologize," her grin is gentle. "I know you'll see the light and celebrate your birthday eventually, and I'm sure that Reid or Jayge have plans that could use an extra body."

"Nope!" Reid calls, attention turning to you and Garcia. "The only plans I have tonight are a date with a documentary about tiger sharks, an entire pizza from Antonios, and maybe a little bit to drink. Such a date is an individual thing, however. Pity party for one."

You grin because of course Spencer had added the booze into your plans--he knows you and your affinity for sweet wine a little too well, which is not something you have the energy to hate at the current moment. Sweet wine, a documentary about tiger sharks, cake and pizza from Antonios actually sounds perfect.

"Aw," you pout playfully, tilting your head as you look at him. "You sure there's not room for one more? I love a good documentary about tiger sharks--they're so cute!"

"Sharks are freaky," Morgan butts in. "They eat people."

"That is actually a very common misconception, likely started up from the dozens of movies where the shark is depicted as the monster, most notably in my head currently being that of the movie Jaws," Spencer starts. You stop pouting and go back to grinning like an idiot. "There are currently 540 types of sharks as discovered by scientists and most of them don't have teeth that can be used to bite into human flesh. If you've ever gone for a swim in the ocean it's very likely that you've swam around with a small shark species that has simply minded it's business instead of swimming up to try to take a chunk out of your leg."

You love him. You love him so much.

"According to the Florida museums International Shark Attack File, only about a dozen species of sharks have ever been recorded to attack humans," Spencer continues. "The top three most dangerous species of shark are the white shark, the tiger shark, and the bull shark, but even then many divers swim with tiger sharks every year without incident."

"Still a risk," JJ says. "I wouldn't chance it."

"I would," you respond. "Tiger sharks are beautiful--I've debated getting a divers certification just on the off chance I might see one, and tiger sharks are only responsible for 131 unprovoked attacks since they started keeping records of attacks and even then, only 34 were fatal."

"How long ago did they start keeping record?" Derek asks.

"More than four hundred years ago," Spencer says. "Great whites have had a total of 333 unprovoked attacks, both fatal and nonfatal since they started keeping record. Tiger sharks have had a total of 131 and bull sharks have had a total of 117."

You bite your lip to ensure your grin doesn't get any wider, take a sip of the tea Garcia had brought you.

"You, Spencer Walter Reid, are my favorite person in this office right now," you respond. Garcia snorts.

"Of course an in depth knowledge of sharks would make you swoon," she retorts. "And--he's Reid, Y/N. He has an in depth knowledge about everything."

You love him so much. "Yes, but whether or not his favorite shark aligns with mine is a dealbreaker."

"Obviously," Emily murmurs, grinning just slightly.

"I like whale sharks the most," Spencer says. "I've been meaning to go to the Georgia aquarium since they got them, but we've been so busy with cases since that I haven't had the chance."

"They have whale sharks at the Georgia aquarium?" You ask.

"Yeah," Spencer nods. "I like them the most because they're really fascinating, and gentle seeming giants. Them, tiger, and lemon sharks are my top three."

"Those are your top three, Y/N," Emily says. "You two are like the match made in the BAU office heaven."

"Well, I know who I am taking with me and where we're going the next time we get more than a day off," you respond. "I am taking Reid, and I will be nerding out about sharks the entire fucking time."

Spencer grins at you, and you let your grin widen.

Things in the office go back to normal after Prentiss invites Garcia for a night of wine, gossip, and telenovela rewatches. The rest of the day is largely quiet, you and Spencer sneaking each other glances throughout the day, spending your breaks talking to each other while sipping tea or coffee, like usual.

You leave work at the same time as Spencer--five o'clock on the dot, and it's a rarer day wherein Hotch and Gideon are leaving at the same as the two of you are. Hotch and you take the elevator where Gideon and Reid decide to do the nuts thing and take the stairs.

"You know that both you and Reid have two weeks of off time, yes?" He asks, breaking the silence. "All that you need to do is book it."

"If we book off time at the same time, the team might--" It's not that you would be against them knowing, it's just that they know so much of your life already, and if they were to find out that you and Reid were a couple, you'd both face relentless teasing.

"Most of the team already knows," Hotch says. "Or at least has their suspicions, and I don't think they care all that much. Book the time off, go to the aquarium, and forget about the team for two weeks. Gideon will advise you to do the same if you ask."

You grin softly. Hotch lets you witness a smile in return, and you bite back the remark about how rare it is out of courtesy.

"Did you know what his favorite sharks were?" Hotch asks. "I couldn't help but overhear, of course."

"We've been dating three and a half years, and I've loved sharks since before I even thought about becoming an FBI agent, and somehow, it just never occurred to me to ask," you respond. "So no. That came as a very delightful surprise."

The elevator dings signalling it's arrival on bottom floor, and the two of you step out.

"Happy birthday, Y/N," Hotch calls as you go your separate ways. You call your thanks, and meet Spencer at your car.

The drive home is full of animated talk about all sorts of things on Spencers end while you listen happily because so many of his rambles are interrupted with some version of "shut up" while the two of you are at work.

You arrive at your apartment, and while Spencer calls Antonios and places the order, you change out of your work clothes and into a pair of drawstring sleep shorts and one of Spencers few shirts that is not a button up.

The two of you are half living together--Spencers got a good chunk of his wardrobe at your place, a toothbrush and some of his favorite books there now, too. He's waiting until the lease on his apartment expires to move in with you fully because his lease expires the day before yours is due to renew, and you can co-sign the lease when that time comes.

When you step back out into your kitchen, Spencer tells you that food has been ordered and you make yourself tea while he changes into his usual outside of work attire--a pair of sweatpants and a neutrally toned shirt.

You've drank your tea entirely and have been talking to Spencer about nothing in particular by the time that food comes. He pours out the wine, sets up a documentary and the two of you eat while sitting on your couch.

At the end of the night, after an entire pizza has been eaten and you've drank your way through most of a bottle of wine, Spencer and you drunkenly waddle-walk to your bedroom, slipping under the sheets and curling up together in a way that is almost routine at this point.

"I love you," you find yourself whispering as your cheek rests against his outstretched arm. You're half asleep and it's barely ten o'clock. if the likes of Garcia or Morgan knew about this, you and Spencer would be akinned to the elderly. "I love you much, Dr. Spencer Walter Reid."

"I love you too," Spencer chuckles. "But you're so drunk right now, Y/N. You definitely had a bit too much."

"Mhm," you hum, nodding slightly. "I did. I'm gonna feel it in the morning, but it's fine."

You close your eyes, try to drift into a drunken sleep for a long while, to no avail. Spencer, still mostly sober and likely still at least a little jittery from all the sugar he takes in his coffee, can't sleep either. You can tell from the rapidness of his breathing, from the way that his thumb rubs idly against your cheek as he holds you close to him.

You're pretending to be asleep, though, making a good show of it while simultaneously trying to spite the chronic insomnia you've dealt with in bouts since you were eighteen. The logic is pure drunken thought--look at me, insomnia. My eyes are closed, my breathing is slow. Go fuck yourself and let me sleep for a few hours--and that is why you feel like it works. Every drunken idea feels like a genius one to the drunk having the thought.

"You're asleep," Spencer whispers, his voice even and gentle. "So I don't have to worry about you freaking out when I say this next bit."

You want to say something, want to react in some way, but how can you do that when you know that the moment you move, he'll stop in his tracks?

"I think you might just be the love of my life," Spencer whispers. "I know it's only been three and a half years at this point, but--every single time I look at you, I catch myself thinking "wow, I really just can't imagine my life without them in it" and it's klnd of--a little bit jarring, honestly? We're only twenty-five. We've got an entire lifetime ahead of us still."

The admission makes your heart clench, and in your drunken state, all you want to do is kiss him stupid, but again you refrain.

"I've also realized that the thought of my life absent of you is a thought I cannot stand," he continues. "You make my day just by existing within my periphery. Sometimes I look at you and it just hits me--the fact that I am occasionally a little overwhelmed with wondering what on earth I might've done to deserve someone as amazing as you are."

You, for a second, wonder how much wine he'd actually had--you had been so focused on your own drinking that you hadn't noticed.

"I'm only slightly tipsy right now, so the words are just kind of falling out of my mouth like word vomit," Spencer laughs softly. "But I do love you a lot more than I think either of us are currently capable of realizing. Someday, i'll be able to tell you all of that when both of us are awake."

He doesn't know about your insomnia very well--you haven't told him because usually, one of his hands in your hair will have you knocked out within thirty minutes. He does not, you decide, need to know about it now.

You feel his forehead against yours and hum in a manner that makes you sound half asleep, grin coming to your face.

"Spence," you mumble, praying that it sounds as half-awake as you want it to. "Missed you."

"You're laying right next to me," Spencer chuckles. "You've been sleeping. You can't miss a person while you're asleep."

"Dreamt about you," you tiredly retort. "And forehead kisses."

You feel his lips against your forehead a moment later. Once, twice, thrice, and a fourth forehead kiss has you grinning like an idiot.

"That good enough for you?"

"Never," you laugh tiredly. "Never ever enough kisses."

"You're still drunk," Spencer retorts. "And half asleep. You're saying that because of both of those factors."

"It'll still be true when I'm fully awake and sober tomorrow," you retort. "Kisses are like water to me. Never enough."

Spencer chuckles, and you feel his lips, featherlight, trailing down from your forehead to your temple and then to your cheekbone and then your cheek and your nose and your jawline, until finally his lips land against yours.

You melt into the kiss, drunk and tired and perfect. "I love you so, so much," you murmur as you pull away. "Never gonna stop loving you ever."

Spencer chuckles again. "I love you too."

His hand drifts to your hair and naturally, within ten minutes, you're half asleep and getting to a sleep state fast.

The last thing you hear before you drift off, likely with Spencer already thinking you're asleep, is the sound of his voice.

"I am going to marry you so hard someday," he whispers. "And I can't wait."

You fall asleep with a smile, those words being the last ones you heard before sleep overtakes you fully.

First of all THANK YOUU so much honey 🥺 I can't believe how much I've written either I think Trouvaille is like over 400k words 💀

I'm gonna keep it cute and keep it real: I got the most work done when I was at an emotional and physical low (2022- just moved back home, diagnosed with a condition that didn't allow me to eat anything but liquids). Goes without saying but I was post-undergrad and unemployed so I had nothing but time to write!! Trouvaille came together roughly while I was reading old BTS hybrid fics ( such as @jincherie ) and wanting to distract myself from my health.

I didn't actually start posting until I had about 8 chapters of Trouvaille done. After that, the self-imposed monthly deadlines had me racing to finish on time, while taking music production classes and working towards getting my condition under control.

It wasn't until I got on the right medication to eat real food again (this time last year!) that I was able to start enjoying my 20's again YAY! I was excited to have more energy to write, but I also didn't have 14+ hours a day to type like a maniac. Updates have slowed down in consequence, but I still like to maintain the length of the chapters especially now that there are significantly fewer updates per year.

In a nutshell, past circumstance allowed me to write untethered, which was cool but made me feel like The Yellow Wallpaper 💀 You can totally write lengthy chapters at a normal pace, even if you are a student/have a career, just set aside chunks of time when inspiration hits.

I'm not a huge outliner for chapters, I'll spend more time in the beginning of creating the fic doing basic world/character building in a Word doc. I usually make a bulleted list of what I want to happen (roughly) in a chapter and then it's off to the races let's see what happens!! Sometimes updates hit that 20k mark, sometimes I get out everything I planned at 16k. I wouldn't focus too much on length as a requirement; don't force yourself to get to a certain amount of words and stuff your work full of filler (I've been guilty of that!!) I find getting started with a work is all about inspiration from life and various forms of media. Make a mood board, a playlist, make SIMS of your characters if that's what gets you fired up!

i did not Adore any of these comics from the library. i sort of enjoyed Night of the Ghoul, a one-volume TPB by Scott Snyder and Francesco Francavilla. i think ive blogged about this before but every once in a while i'll get a bee in my bonnet to read some horror comics even though i am a giant baby about horror movies.

Night of the Ghoul is about how you can't save your dad from PTSD but also about a lost horror film and also about the extremely dad behavior of tracking down every scrap of info about an auteur. there's also a monster.

the subtle art changes from present day to the remains of the film to the non-film flashbacks are well done, imo. the cover screams mignola but the inside pages are really fun pulp nonsense. i love a piece of genre writing that rolls around and delights in being a piece of genre writing.

im doing my level best not to get sucked into tiktok but i DO love watching this lady revive antique nail polish and look for dupes for shades from like the 20s. she found an almost exact dupe for a shade produced during wwii which is crazy insane to me!!!

The Asphalt Jungle (1950, dir. Huston), it's a very painterly heist noir. i even like Sterling Hayden in one of the more prominent roles, even though i think he generally has the appeal of undercooked dough.

much like Fritz Lang's M, it presents the criminal element of the city as its own class with its own reputation and reference systems. it got in some trouble with the censors for having a VERY clearly laid out heist plan and execution. it's also got the babiest Marilyn Monroe in one of her earliest roles

this was such a gloriously messy movie. everyone is such a fucking mess. this woman only known as Doll is heartbreakingly, head over heels in love with Sterling Hayden's character. she's a little flighty and bumbling and silly, but determined! they're constantly orbiting the gravitational weight of her desire for this man and desire for a real life with this man. and that's just one subplot! she has maybe five minutes total screentime! she should have gotten a supporting actress oscar!!! everyone acted their fucking hearts out and it was so much fun to watch!

monument valley is in the netflix games library this month (i don't actually know what their liscencing agreements would even look like, they and the studios they worked with were very tightlipped about that when they were rolling this out three years ago) but i assume it's going to be on the service for a while. i have never played this game, which makes me feel a little bit like a bad gamer. you can tell it's ten years old from some of the color and texture choices, but WOW did literally everyone take inspiration from this game.

this is the platonic ideal of a phone game. i get why everyone went insane about it and there was a brief boom of geometry-based puzzle mobile games. it is MUCH much harder now to get people to pay money to play a game that has a planned endpoint and planned number of levels, so netflix is a good home for it.

i was often frustrated but always delighted. the level below involves making something happening that made me genuinely gasp out loud in glee. well worth the annoyance of downloading the netflix app and scrolling through the poorly labeled and poorly sorted carousel of games.

update on the Phantom Menace fabric: pinked the raw edges and threw it in the laundry again with a very large quantity of vinegar. 50% poly was too high for it to really do anything, which is interesting. it didn’t lessen the seam edge effects either, which is a little annoying bc the seams were so gigantic and that’s a good chunk of fabric to lose. i am going to buy a camp shirt pattern at some point when i have money again but for now it goes in The Box

I had a drawing months back that went kinda viral I guess, and it getting out of my normal sphere of followers meant that I got to observe how folks far outside of my twitter sphere interact with twitter and others. For reference, I am talking about this image:

The context, besides getting to draw my friend Jenny, was that I saw a picture that was of an anime girl that said "lets be in our early 30s together" and I was like "haha, I will make my own version of this." Part of it was also that I think aging is fine, and we need to stop stressing so much over staying young. "Lets be in our mid-thirties together" is not a joke, I sincerely wanted this image to be warm and inviting, to maybe give people hope that there will be friends and people who love you once you get to that age. I never thought I was going to make it to 30, and I just turned 35 this year, and I'm the happiest I've ever been.

Some responses were obviously teens/early 20s people saying they don't want to get that old, which is whatever. When you're that young the dirty thirty sounds so ugly. No one cool is in their 30s! Well, if you ignore the people who make all the things they like. These responses I waved these off.

I saw the typical twitter experience replies of "this doesn't apply to me?" Ok bitch! Go make your own like I did! And show me when you do, I'd love to see it!

There was a handful of people who were saying "retweet to scare a twink" which I felt was kind of rude. Not to me, but to the twinks out there. Aging doesn't make you less of a twink.

Lots of people were sending it to their significant others or saying they hope to find someone to be in their mid-thirties with, which I love. :3 It makes me happy!

The one kind of response which is what I made this post for and I'm so sorry that I've been rambling, that I found weird was the people who will reply to just you. The OP. As if they are replying to everyone in the thread. I'm not talking about in QRTs, just straight in the replies. "Don't forget how tired she looks in this." Brother I drew the picture. I know. And ever since then I feel like, as someone who loves to read the replies on other people's tweets, I notice this a lot more often. Who are they talking to? Is this what people are referring to when they say "Main Character Syndrome?" Or should I be lumping these together with the "why isn't this about my exact personal life situation" people?

My fiancé says I'm thinking about this too hard (I got engaged last month btw), and he's probably right. I can't help but be curious about how other people choose to interact with the internet and images and people on it. And, I guess, am I supposed to reply? How should I feel about these. I guess I have to decide that on my own.

For the record, you are all very normal/understandable when it comes to what you guys tag my stuff with. That you love the girls (same!), that they're very gender (love this), or wow is this [insert fetish](not my intention but that's the internet). I feel like the slime girls get the "gender" comment the most and you are all so right for that. Every time I see people reblog my ocs I think "Thank you for loving [name]."

The Catalyst: Life working in retail and the moment I finally said "fuck it, I'm doing porn."

I've been working in Customer Service off and on since early 2005, only ever being unemployed for short periods of time between job searches. I've worked in various retail establishments, with shipping companies, call centres, door-to-door sales, and even in kitchens & cafes. The only industry I have ever refused to work in has been fast food, and I'm sure those of you who have worked a drive through or two in your lives can understand my reasoning. I began in my first year of high school working at a Dollar Store that was next to an extremely seedy strip club (it eventually burned down and it was discovered that the owner had done it to try and cash in on the insurance). From customers verbally and physically abusing me, to an elderly man jerking his cock in front of me, my first romp in retail was merely a taste of what was to come for the next 20 years.

Some jobs were certainly better than others. I worked at a bookstore and a Halloween shop, both of which would have been fine if not for the politics of the company bleeding into the staff and making us all miserable. Bad management teams, abusive coworkers, bullying and drama akin to that which we experience in High School - it becomes exhausting after awhile. For minimum wage, which doesn't even come close to a living wage, it's just not worth the headaches. I rarely lasted longer than two years with any of my employers. When you're handed a penny raise after working your ass off for an entire year you tend to lose faith in the company that you've been breaking your back (and sanity) for. I promise, there was no lack of trying on my part to escape the clutches of the customer service industry. I have my BA in English, I have a certificate in photography, and I have some training in IT Web design (which proved to be far too much for my little brain to handle) and Audio Engineering. Unfortunately the job market for all of these industries in my part of the world is pretty much non existent. I'm pretty sure a BA in English is worth less than toilet paper even after the great pandemic shortage of 2020. Unfortunately, to make money in this world you gotta do what you gotta do. So to pay off my crippling debt and be able to afford an occasional package of ramen noodles so I don't starve to death, I have to continue working these soul crushing, mindless jobs.

It was in 2016 when I started working in donation rooms at thrift stores and, I will be completely honest with you - I fucking love it. Granted, it has it's downsides. I've sorted through more than a couple bags with mould, human feces, needles, and used sex toys, but the satisfaction of the treasure hunt it's absolutely worth the nasty shit that you sometimes encounter. But once again, the politics of the industry got in the way of finding my work enjoyable and rewarding. Nasty upper management was the downfall of all three thrift locations I've worked at. The first store the CEO shut us down without warning (I also later learned he was a sexual predator and was being sued by some of his employees for harassment, so that was gross). The second location had a violent customer base (we were robbed repeatedly), a bully assistant manager who would scream in your face when HE made a mistake, and a regional manager who loved to throw her staff under the bus.

So that leads us to my third romp in thrift, my absolute favourite job I've ever had, and the devastation brought upon me when everything came crumbling down.

My husband and I came into a little bit of money in 2021 and I decided to take a break from the world of customer service bullshit and return to school (This was my IT and Audio Engineering training). That summer I got a student job at a thrift store where 100% of the proceeds go into helping rescue animals. It was entirely volunteer based other than the management team and the summer students (who were there on a government grant). I had such an enjoyable experience working there as the volunteer coordinator than I returned the following summer, and they were so impressed with me they ended up hiring me on permanently part time to help with their rapidly growing business. At this point, due to some mental health struggles, I am not currently able to work full time hours, and they were more than happy to work around my disability...

Until the new regional manager was hired.

The store closed for renovations and I was brought in to help rebuild and re-brand the store.

Sure. No problem. It's more hours than I'm available for, but I don't mind just for a couple of weeks. It's also more physical work than my body is really equipped for but, just this once, I'll suffer through with a smile on my face.

Then I'm handed a key and I'm told "You're a staff supervisor now". Oh... okay? No one talked to me or asked me if I wanted the promotion, it's more hours than I can handle, and I don't really want the responsibilities that come with a supervisor position because of my disability, but since my old position has been dissolved I guess I'll have to suck it up. At least it comes with a raise, right?

Nope. Still minimum wage. Which is currently sitting about $15 under a livable wage. Also, we won't be training you and just expect you to know how to do the assistant manager's job.

Okay... Gotta do what you gotta do I guess.

You also have to work more shifts than you're available for.

Oh... yeah, okay. That could start to prove difficult as I'm dealing with a depressive episode right now but... sure?

Then suddenly I'm responsible for everything that goes wrong. A volunteer makes a mistake? Blame Billie - even on days she isn't working. The cash or pricing machines break? Billie. Shoes, purses, dresses, and coats priced to low? Blame Billie and make sure she's the only person who prices these things from now on. Need 30 things done at once right this second, tell Billie and don't let her delegate the tasks to anyone else. If she does, yell at her! Have Billie open and close the store for the next two weekends, but don't train her how to do it and expect her not to make any mistakes. Customer has an issue? That's right, it's also somehow Billie's fault! Even when she's at home sleeping!

Blame, blame, blame, blame, blame, blame, blame.

Yeah. This was the breaking point for me.

In July of 2023 I had started up an OnlyFans account to bring in a couple extra dollars. I'll discuss why this was a challenging decision for me in a future post, but originally I was just planning to post some tasteful nudes to earn myself a little spending money. By May of 2024, as all this bullshit had begun happening at work, that mindset had officially gone from a couple tasteful nudes to "Fuck it, I'm quitting retail and making porn." By August I had amassed enough of a following to put in my notice.

I am finished with retail as of October 15th, 2024 and turning to creating adult content full time.

Honestly, this is a terrifying leap of faith as I know content creation can be a fickle beast. Some months will be more lucrative than others, while an inability to keep people invested could have everything all come crashing down on top of me.

But I'm done with working for people who take advantage of me and pay me pennies. I know my value and I'm worth more than what I'm being given. I'm not a number who is easily replaceable, I am a strong capable woman who is in charge of her own destiny.

He is not only getting roles as the supporting character. He literally just wrapped a film where he's the lead. He booked another where he is the lead. He has a career and your moronic views on how he handles it won't change it.

And for comparing kaia's small roles to Austin's. Name a role where it put her in the media as more than model daughter of Cindy Crawford turned actress. Or Austin butler's girlfriend. Name one role she did that got her award buzz. Name one role that landed her an a lister spot? Go head, I'll wait.

Small roles can be significant just as much as they can be insignificant. It depends on the actor/actress, the script, and the impact of the movie. Bike riders, he was listed as the main cast and had a significant impact on the film and story with his character. His absence was felt. His presence was felt. In dune, he was the villain. The one the main cast feared. He had one of the biggest fights in the movie. His actions forced the hand of the main character.

Having an impactful small role is when you make the audience actually grow to feel something for that small role. If that small role is killed off you feel it, you mourn it. If that small role reaches their goal, you celebrate and cheer for them. Name one role of kaia's that impacted you in that way.

You don't want to be Austin's fan anymore cause you feel he's handling his career wrong and wasting his potential then there's the door. Don't let it hit ya where the good lord split ya. No one will miss you and your negative takes. Austin definitely won't. Your opinion has no effect on his career or his teams handling of his career. Just because you have a short attention span and forget actors that aren't constantly shoved down your throat doesn't mean the rest of us/Hollywood do.

HEY!!!! HI! finally. If you've checked the Heat (1995) (Al Pacino and Robert De Niro Go on a Date: The Movie) tag on AO3 in the past year you've probably checked out Hotel Vast Horizon (Michael Mann Could Never: The Fic). Welp here it is on paper.

The common thread in the typeset was always the ocean (and shit, I said the o-word. did you know there are like 20 references to water, seas and storms in HVH, and yet never once "ocean" is said?). The other thread was the Bitstream Cooper typeface, which is round and curvy and so pleasing on the eye. Isn't it? Also Arial (underrated), because I needed it for the sequencing to show that Michael Mann is a loser. I'm kidding. Or am I? But this brings me to another major thing: the sequencing. (The common denominator between movies and books: the sequence.) That can only be apprehended on the full PDF/book, and it's really something that did not really exist (in so much depths) in the previous typesets.

As to what the sequencing is saying, or what the hell this intro is about (no I did not have a stroke when I did it), I will not say much if only that it is about the vocabulary, the image, the movie, the things that go beyond fate, a little bit Neil vs Vincent and a lot the reason vs the heart. More things shall remain unexplained because I feel they would be better experienced than laid out here.

If you'd still like to know what's actually going on in this thing don't hesitate to send in an ask lol.

More details on the technical matters + a visualization at the bottom, because there is work involved and my micro typography is so clean it could give Neil McCauley a boner.

help where do i even begin? I learnt how to use FontForge to create a new typeface specifically for that symbol at the beginning of the paragraphs in order to implement it in InDesign (see fig.1 below), I changed the Arial's @ in FontForge too (fig.2) to have it fit with the underline in @ rocket88, what the hell.

2. I also drew 11 (I think) illustrations for the intro (yes, those knots......), but that wasn't as complicated as I thought it would be. I do deeply curse InDesign's "Print Booklet" function for how much it hates images though.

3. I would like you to meet my InDesign characters styles (fig.3) as they simply are impeccable and the best you will ever see, I could not have been more professional if you had paid me 5 grand for this. The hyphens! The dashes! The custom small caps!

4. To get even further in the micro typography. It is, in most, most cases, much too time-consuming to properly kern (=modulate the space between your characters and/or words) your text for how little the average eye will get out of it, and/or your average graphic designer is certainly not getting paid enough to actually do it properly. I, on the other hand, am insane and unemployed, therefore yes, I kerned this shit. Micro typo is actually the sculpture of the white spaces of your page. When done thoroughly it does mean checking every characters with your own eyeballs.

So in english, since this typeset is in english, the rules are no spaces for punctuation. Right? and not right ? It makes for a pretty tight block. I do argue too tight - although of course you'll also have times where you want tight. (And this is all within the 5% of the time where kerning matters.) That might not sound too bad until you get to em-dashes, this '—' thing. Which is a literally useless punctuation mark that is so hysterically long it'll leave an unnatural horizontal void in your text and draw all attention to it—you know, instead of the text itself. Useless, because it can always be replaced by commas, colon, semicolon, or parentheses. So you'll have the tightest group of punctuation marks humping each other?!"— then a dash literally the size of a whole ass m that looks nothing like the rest. ridiculous. absurd.

Anyway the point is I said bye-bye to this aberration and used hyphens stretched at 260% (lmao. it works so well?). And sometimes 230%. Sometimes with a space after, sometimes not - if not the same meaning then why the same treatment (fig6)? I wondered at this point if I wasn't going too far (lol) but this is the point of micro typo, so, whatever. See fig7 for more kerning stuff.

I have far less things to say about this part than the last even though I must have spent twice as much time on it, but I just wanted to say that I manually set the text rag on all 69 pages, it looks nice, I love tetris, AND!!!! the greatest thing about the whole fucking book (fig8): the text starts on the top line of the first column, and ends, on p.91, on the LAST line of the column, at the very bottom of the page, and IT IS NOT. BY. CHANCE!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

hello! ive binged your blog this past week and have been so invested and impressed with how professionally everything has been done. I particularly liked the snippets of your 'process' you've hinted at in other asks. I havent been around since the beginning so i wanted to ask what inspired you to undertake such a large project! or, rather, did you expect it to be as big as it became? each generation has 70+ daily posts, their portrait headshots, family portraits... i love it! were you trying to build an audience when you started out? was it a covid project that you had time to build a huge queue for? i think ill be starting my own narrative simblr here soon and i'd love to hear your thoughts or advice about your journey with it, if any.

Hello and thank you for such a lovely message, it's so nice to receive feedback on the quality of my Decades Challenge because I do put so much effort in behind the scenes thanks to my agonising perfectionism!

As a project it has grown beyond what I thought it would be, to a point that I had to reign it back in in early-2022 because I couldn't keep up. I'll put more detail under the cut ✨

The Langstons started as a covid project in 2020. I was an unemployed student with a lot of time on my hands. I'd done legacies before and was pretty good at getting close to the end so that was the 'project', to do the Decades Challenge. And while looking for inspiration like cc and builds etc I found simblr and discovered people were posting their Decades Challenges here with narrative attached. By this stage I'd already played a fair bit into my Langston family (they had 4 kids by that point) so I decided to start posting my sims as well, which pushed me to put a bit more effort in with shots, story, editing etc because I had imposter syndrome. I didn't intend for there to be much narrative or story, and I think that's pretty obvious when reviewing the 1890s Langstons, but it started to grow as I was posting because I wanted to give my sim characters justifications for their life paths I was sending them on... and it all kind of took off from there, as a Decades Challenge story.

Covid over 2020 and 2021 in my country forced us into hard lockdowns, and over those 2 years I had heaps of spare time for home-based hobbies - so I just kept pushing myself to keep going with my Decades Challenge for something to do. I got really into creating storylines and costuming and wanting to do the project 'justice' because of how much effort was going in and how many generations I needed to cover to finish it. Then I stared doing lookbooks, creating portraits and character pages, and then making cc (which was a fun side project).

I wanted to build an audience at the start because I wanted to gauge whether anyone was as interested in my sims as I was in others', and when I stared getting feedback and responses to my posts it was very validating and flattering, so that spurred me to keep up. I never dreamed it would get the audience it has now! It's nice being told that something you are making is good. IRL at the time, I was pretty miserable - I graduated my Masters without a job, I was trying to conceive and failing, I was lonely due to covid and lost some of the best years of my 20s - but simblr made me happy and was a distraction from those hard things and so I really poured effort into the thing that brought me happiness.

2022 and 2023 forced me to pull back from my Decades Challenge project due to pregnancy and becomming a parent. It felt very natural to drop it at the time, but since finding my groove with parenting and my new life I still want to finish this project because it's been nearly 4(!) years of effort and I'd hate to leave it so close to the end. So that's why I'm still here - in a reduced capacity to what I was in 2020 and 2021 at my peak - trying to get it done. I don't post lookbooks or do cc anymore, because I just don't have the time anymore. But everyone is so encouraging, I have made some nice friends here and I'm constantly in awe of and inspired by the sims, content and stories others are creating. There is so much more potential for historical gameplay in the years since I started my Decades Challenge - farming! horses! infants! - and I hope that my project has inspired others to have a go! That's the best legacy I could hope to leave...

This month has been incredibly rough. I was forced to pay $1000 towards something. I'm not even allowed to talk about the involved issue from the past that I just don't want to deal with anymore. As Kabbu's birthday rolls around, the internet turns pink, and people talk about "love" and "romance" and other things like that. Very ironic, considering the man is aroace, but in accordance with the season, we have assembled some very viable bachelors to... date, probably. Dating profiles below the cut, but you can choose from cliff notes if you want, we guess, this is just so the post isn't ABSURDLY long.

Bau (short for Bauplan) - They/any - Dune Cricket - 18-21 (varies based on fic, generally tied to Vi's age) - Bi/pan

When it comes to a date, you can't do better than Bau! Though dune crickets are normally more than a bit antisocial (and cannibalistic), Bau is an exception! Terminally friendly, great at parties, and unendingly loyal - they'll do anything for a friend, and if you can get friendly with them, they'll be more than happy to date if you ever pop the question! If you want level-headed, Jask is your bug! A bandit medic with years of expence under his belt, Jask is well experienced with taking care even the most dangerous of bugs - his boss, for example.
