Nobody knows me baby, the way you do

Daniel looks up from his phone as Max walks towards the bed, sleepily rubbing one of his eyes, t-shirt already discarded somewhere.

"Hey," he murmurs, shifting to make more space for him under the duvet, "all done streaming?"

Max hums, plugging in his phone and climbing into bed, immediately curling around Daniel, head in his lap, and closing his eyes. As always, Daniel thinks that with a tail and some purring he'd indistinguishable from his cats.

"Are you okay?" he asks, starting to card his fingers through Max's hair, lips curling up at the way he goes pliant, slightly nuzzling his cheek against Daniel's thigh.

It's not unusual for Max to be this cuddly when tired and in private, but he's usually a little more chatty than this, especially after a stream with his friends.

"Tired," Max grumbles. Then, after a pause, "car is shit."

It makes Daniel chuckle, the Max-ness of it.

"I know, baby."

God knows Max has ranted long enough for Daniel to understand just how shit the rb20 is, even if he's not the one driving it. (Yet). (Hopefully).

There's another long silence, Daniel going back to his phone to give Max time to sort out his thought and say whatever else is on his mind.

"I read your article. About me." Max doesn't open his eyes, but Daniel can see a blush bloom on his cheeks and ears.

It's not what Daniel was expecting, but he still smiles, pleased. He know what he said, and he knows he would say it all over again. A love letter, Blake had huffed, rolling his eyes. Daniel hadn't denied it.

"Did you like it?"

Max's cheek drags against his leg as he nods, before he pushes himself to a sitting position, not enough sleepiness clinging to his eyes to dampen their intensity.

"Thank you, Daniel."

Daniel smiles, understanding all the things Max is not saying, all the things he's thanking him for. He knows this is a love letter too, in a Max way.

A love post-it note, stuck to him with the kiss Max drags him into.

Hi lovely people. We loved the fics posted for Round One and are coming back for Round Two! We've also included our prompt submissions list from Round One at the bottom of this post.

Our new and updated Rules and Guidelines:

There is no minimum or maximum word count requirement.

Fics must be completed when posted to AO3. No WIPs.

This fest is not anonymous. Feel free to post snippets or teasers. (Make sure to tag @1dsoulmatefest )

As this is a One Direction fest, one of the members must be included in the main pairing.

Pairings do not need to be romantic. They can be platonic or simply sexual.

There will be no restriction on the writing of explicit, sensitive, or potentially triggering content, though this must be tagged appropriately.

I’m doing inktober again this year, and thought I’d share the prompts I’ve gathered in case anyone wants some inspo or to do it with me! I just went for fun autumnal ones, feel free to come up with your own themed list like 1D or Larry or whatever you’d like, this is just one option! :)

Round 3: Minor Arcana

For this round of the fest, the theme is Minor Arcana. The Minor Arcana cards in a tarot deck reflect your everyday experiences – the joys, challenges, relationships, and ideas that you encounter frequently. They can reveal the lessons from your past, and guide you to make the best choices for your future. Listening to the Minor Arcana can greatly improve your daily life! These cards can be seen as normal playing cards, but each card has their own meaning. You have four suits, Swords (Spades), Wands (Clubs), Cups (Hearts) and Pentacles (Diamonds). Every suit has 14 cards, 10 numbered cards and 4 court cards, Page, Knight, Queen, and King. 

For your prompt, you will receive a tarot reading from the mods of this fest. Three cards will be pulled for you, all Minor Arcana. This means that you will have three prompts to choose from or, if you’re seeking a fun challenge, combine the meanings for one prompt. This choice will be made by sign up, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick to it. However, if you choose to do “full reading”, so combine the cards, the mods will do a reading based on the three cards for you. As usual, reach out if you have any questions about the prompts rules, or tarot in general. 

As to support writers, we are experimenting with including artists into the fest to provide art for the fic posts. This may include different art media. Writers can request the help of an artist during sign up. Although it’s not a guarantee there will be an artist to help, we are hoping to match anyone with an artist willing to help. You can also contact an artist on your own, a friend or someone who is part of the list on @artistsof1d.

My heart is bleeding. This whole situation wasn't supposed to go this way. I wish it turned another direction. But it didn't. And it's painful.

Forgive me for being basic( I’m not really sorry though because this is still one of my favourites)

I'm in love with you and all these little things

"Come back here."

Max rolls his eyes, but he still turns around, walking back towards the bathroom sink, leaning a hip against it. The air is still heavy with steam from their shower, the mirror fogged up, and he wants to go out and get dressed, but he never says no to Daniel. Especially when he's still half naked, only wearing a pair of what Max is pretty sure were originally his boxers, curls heavy with water.

"Don't look at me like that," Daniel scolds him, not a single trace of real reproach in his voice, waving the moisturizer at him. "I am just trying to make sure you don't get up all wrinkly and old like me."

It's Max's turn to scowl, hands wrapping around Daniel's waist to drag him closer.

"Excuse me, I think I am going to grow old anyway," he says, leaning forward to kiss Daniel's cheek, then again the wrinkles by his eyes that don't disappear anymore, not even when he's not smiling. "And wrinkly old men are hot."

Daniel's eyes, which had slipped closed, open again as he huffs out a laugh, his free hand coming up to slap at Max's naked chest.

"Yeah, you'd say that!"

Max only smiles at him, letting him step back just the littlest bit.

"Put that stuff on my face and hurry up," he says, fully expecting the smirk Daniel throws at him, rushing to interrupt him before he can make a joke. "Don't say it."

Daniel mimes closing his mouth with a lock, before finally opening the tub and picking up a small dollop of cream. His fingers are careful on Max's skin, light and soft, tracing patterns that only Daniel can see, and Max lets himself close his eyes, fully relax into hands he fully trusts.

"You are hot, you know that yeah? Very beautiful," he murmurs, feeling Daniel falter for a second.

"I am also not 25 anymore, Maxy."

"Well, I'm not either," Max shoots back, unwilling to let Daniel talk himself down about this. About anything.

"No, you're not."

Daniel's fingers disappear for a moment, but before Max can open his eyes, his hands are back to cup his cheeks, Daniel's lips on his.

Their clammy skin stick together, Max's softer body against Daniel's leaner one. Max's fingers dip just the slightest bit under the band of Daniel's underwear, grazing along his back, before moving around to his hips, wider than they used to be a few years ago.

"Perfect," he says, right against Daniel's lips, before deepening the kiss to stop Daniel from arguing.

If he could, he would steal all of Daniel's insecurities with a kiss, just like he can steal his words, but he will settle for denying them over and over. And it will never be an hardship, to remind him how much he loves everything about him.

General

• This fest is not anonymous. Feel free to post snippets or teasers. (Make sure to tag @1dfilmfest)

• As this is a One Direction fest, one of the members must be included in the main pairing. Pairings do not need to be romantic. They can be platonic or simply sexual.

• All AUs are allowed such as Omegaverse, Mpreg, girl direction, etc, as long as the fic/artwork is inspired by a film.

• Fics and Artwork must be inspired by their film prompt. If in doubt, please ask the Mods if your idea fits.

• This is an 18+ fest

• Please alert the mods as soon as you’re having problems or need to drop out.

• Those signed up can request a secondary film prompt once sign ups close.

• You can sign up as an artist and writer if you like but will need to fill out both sign up forms.

• Prompts are first come first serve (even if you sign up as both artist and writer and choose the same film it is not guaranteed!)

• Collabs between artist and writers are a choice you commit to at sign up (if you happen to choose the same as the opposite creator)

Writers

Artists

• NSFW artwork is allowed. (It will be partially censored on tumblr and added to a AO3 master art post, 1 chapter per artist, uncensored.)

• You may use AI art to inspire your work but please do not use it in your final piece.

• Accepted forms of submitted art include: any type of traditional or digital art, videos, drawings, paintings, manips, GIFs, podfic, and moodboards. Please note that if you are creating moodboards, we require that you do a minimum of three.
