Welcome to a new recurring series for the 1UP Pod – Video Game Deathmatch! This time, Andy will be pitting Streets of Rage 4 vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge!
Following Andy’s experiences comparing The Callisto Protocol and Dead Space, Andy is back on terra firma through the cunning escape plan of dying. Now he’s in a crime-infested city, fighting street punks left and right.
As a lifelong fan of the beat ’em up genre, from the late ’80s arcade golden era to the present, Andy can’t wait to get stuck into the intricacies of these two modern revivals of classic games. He just has to deal with the occasional baseball bat-wielding thug. Good thing there’s plenty of food to be found in steel barrels.
Streets of Rage 4 is based on the popular trilogy of Sega MegaDrive tiles, while Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder’s Revenge is a spiritual successor to Konami’s iconic series of arcade releases.
Streets of Rage 4 vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge will take place over five categories: Presentation, Playable Characters, Enemy Types, Gameplay, and ‘Nostalgia vs Reinvention’.
Will he make it to the final boss before he’s done critiquing these two titles? Listen to find out!

My Alien Covenant Headcanons and ‘Canon-Repairs”
!.The people on Paradise were a sort of 'priestly' colony, they were the spiritual caste of the Engineers and thus were completely unprepared for war. David kills the priestly caste off as a way to 'strike the heart' of the Engineer's empire. He does this because he made the mistake of putting Shaw in a cyro-pod unfit for humans, this killed her, thus his genocide of the priestly caste was an act of grief-stricken revenge. They killed the only person who mattered to him, so he killed the planet that mattered the most to them. This was one of of many reasons why he did it, but Shaw was the straw that broke the camel's back. After she died, he kept her corpse for his experiments, hoping to use her to develop an ultimate weapon with which to punish her killers.
2. While alone on the Engineer's ship, he learned of their societal rigidity and arrogance; The Engineers live in castes and allow themselves to be abused by the upper echelons. Their caste system is pseudoreligious, as they believe their leaders to be hand chosen by their diety and that they rule with it's will. Any individual Engineer who expresses himself out of cultural norms ( eg, one must live in their castes, create things a certain way, exc..) is enslaved. The Engineers also believe that it's their diety-given right to create and destroy life as they please. Thus, David deemed them 'worse' than humans, his own oppressors.
3. David also didn't create the xenomorphs as we know them, he made his own breed based on what he studied of the Engineer-produced strains. He hoped to make a faster, deadlier, more efficient variant using Shaw's DNA as a way to '1up the gods'.

20 Lives
First you must beat the game and unlock luigi. Then when you get ready to start a new game dont.Change your face thing on your planet to the new one(luigi). Then start a new game and talk to the toad that gives you the letters to mario from peach. But when you talk to him with luigi he will say that this letter is not for you(luigi) but for mario. And instead of giving you 5 1UPS he will give you twenty. He will do this every time you turn the game back on. Trust me this is good if you are getting stuck and need some extra lives. P.S This works with only luigi and not mario.
Passing The Blue Comic
To beat the the blue comic is a long jump at the end if blue mario is close to the star do the long jump you will go over him and you will win. Anley do this when he is close to the star. I tried it work for me.
Infinite 1-Ups
If you grab any 1-Up Mushroom at the CometObservatory, you can then head into any dome, backout, and arrive back at the Comet Observatorywithout having played any stage. This will makethe 1-Up Mushroom you acquired reappear.
How To Defeat Boos Under Water
When you get a shell under water there is a lightbeaming out of it then shine it on the boos.
Stylish Ground Pound
While in the air do a spin and then instantly after ground pound, it will look like a ballerina version of a ground pound. Theres really no point in doing this except it looks really cool.
How To Beat Bowser
Just make bowser jump on the blue thing and spin when he is about to hit you. Then spin by him and do that 3 or 4 times!
Red Flying Mario
When you get the 5th grand star you’ll unlock two domes. Ones called the garden and ones called the gate. Go through the gate and get on top of the Coliseum. Now talk to Rosalina and a red luma will appear. Talk to it and purple coins will appear. Collect all of them and go back to where you found the red luma. A red star will be there. Collect the red star and go to the garage. A red power-up will be there. Get it and start flying!
How Too Be Ghost Mario
Go to the haunted house and and see a white thing go too it be it and how too go over prees a and shake.
How To Defeat Bugaboom
Galaxy:Honeyhive galaxy mission:third mission big bad Bugaboom. To defeat Bugaboom get on top of him and ground pound. Now turn into Bee Mario and fly onto the honeycomb wall on the tree master your timing. When he gets under you GET OFF AND GROUND POUND! Now repeat but DO NOT ground pound when he turns. AND AVOID BOMBS!
Easy Way To Defeat Fire Dino Piranah
As soon as he is free of his shell, he will begin chasing you. He is always faster than you. The best thing to do is turn around and go around him. He has a one track mind. When he starts running, he can’t do a full 180. If you try to gradually turn around him, he has enough time to react. Just turn around and pass him. Watch which side the tail goes out on, and the next time you hit the tail, it will go out no the other side. If you do this, its a cinch.
How To Beat Fire Dino Piranah
In order to beat the piranah you must first wait until the falame on his tail goes out. Then, continue to do that but remember that he/she runs faster after every time you hit his/her tail. HINT:his/her tail will light on fire faster and faster.
Star In Golden Chomp
When you get the mystery coins in gusty garden, level 3, there will be a rainbow star. Get it then go to the golden chomp; after that a star will come out.
Hidden Star In Beach Bole
Did you know there is a hidden star in beach bole? Grab a sheel go to the pangin that’s running. Go down more and there will be a chest. Hit it with the sheel. A sling pod will appear. Go in it do the rest. And that how you get a secret star.
Flying Ability
Go to the gate talk to lady Rosalina then talk to the red luma then use red star to fly and collect all 100 purple coins. Then after go to the top of the bedroom or the garage and use the red star.
Freezing Opponents (Only Able With 2 Players)
In 2 player mode, you can actually FREEZE opponents! The Star Bit collector simply clicks the “A” button on an opponent or rock or.anything (except bosses)! This will let you be able to hit them while they are freezed and just kill them that way!
Smashing Rocks
In the first level of Good Egg Galxy, complete the level up to the part with the rolling rocks and weird sticky green stuff. You need two players to do this. The Star Bit collector has to press the “A” button when positioned on one rock. This rock will freeze and the next rock will smash into it, causing a lot of Star Bits to come out of them. Do this with every rock until it is cleared. It will be a good way to earn more Star Bits and easier to get the pieces of the Launch Star.
Megaleg
To defeat megaleg, get to the top of him and make the bullet bills smash into the dome with the grand star in it.
The Last Star
After you have Mario and Luigi with 120 stars and defeated Bowser to get the Grand Finale Galaxy go there to collect 100 purple coins and get the last star (the 121 star).
Passing Sea Slide Bonus
To pass the sea slide bonus (Hurry, he hungry), first you need to feed the luma star bits. Then before you go into the cannon, grab the Bee Mario that way you can fly over the holes and not get sucked in to death.
Breaking Into The Battlerock
When you give a luma 40 star bits you get a new plant. You only get 30 sec to blow up all the junk. A faster way is to get a bomb and jump on it. Be careful lose lives.
Extra Lives
Because you start each game with only four lives(after shutting the game off and turning it backon), you might be in need of some extra lives uponrebooting the game. You can usually get five rightoff the bat from Toad (he’ll run around with aletter above his head, symbolizing a letter fromeither Luigi, or more likely Peach). There arefour more strewn around the Observatory that youcan acquire, however: * 1.) On the moving green platform below the core. * 2.) Under the stairs leading to the kitchen. * 3.) Right at the top of the observatory.(Once the Red Star is unlocked) * 4.) Underneath the entrance to the gatewayto the stars. (Once the Red Star is unlocked) * 5.) Next to the StarShroom (in a crate)
Second Player
If you have a second Wii controller, you can havea friend play along with you. While there won’t bea second player on-screen, you will have a secondcursor to use. This means that Coins, Star Bits, and the like can be collected by the secondplayer. There’s also some functionality incontrolling Mario’s jumps.
Super Stomp
If you want to do a specialized stomp with Marioor Luigi, try the following. When you jump, beforeyou press the Z button to do the Ground Pound, spin by shaking the Wii controller. As you arespinning, you can then press the Z button. Theresult? A stronger stomp that will actually trackthe enemy and follow it, kind of like aheat-seeking missile!
Homing Attack!
In order to perform the Homing Attack in Super Mario Galaxy, execute Mario’s SpinAttack while in midair, quickly press Z. Mario will do the Homing Attack on thenearest enemy or target.
1-up
There is a one up on top of the garden center. (need flying star)
How To Defeat Dino Piranah
You hit him with a spin attack on the tail to crack him in egg form and hurt him in regular form. But after the first time you hit him in regular form you better be fast or done for.
1ups On The Start Area
1. In a box in the garage.2. Under the stairs on your way to the kitchen.3. Under the platform with the gate on it. (need the fly star.)4. Along the rotating green path near the terrace.(need the fly star)
Grand Finale Galaxy
Grand Finale Galaxy isn’t really a galaxy. It’s the level in front of the castle where you start the game with Mario. To unlock it, you have to get all 120 stars with Mario, then do it again with Luigi. When you do this, Princess Rosalina will ask you to go to Bowser’s Galaxy Reactor. Say yes, fight Bowser. Then she will bring you back home. It has one star, The Star Festival. You have to collect 100 purple coins. When you get them all, go to Mailtoad and he’ll send a congratulatory message to your Wii Message board. You have just beat the game 100%!NOTE: You have to beat it with both Mario AND Luigi to beat it 100%!
Where To Find 3 1up Mushrooms
There is 3 1up mushrooms. 1 is in the crate in the garage. 1 is under the stair at the kitchen. And 1 is under the library (note you must get on the green thing after it is under it).
Get 5 1up Mushrooms From Peach
Sometimes peach will send a letter with 5 1up mushrooms.
How To Beat Bowser
This is simple. Make him jump on the blue circles it will bust and make lava burn his butt.
Get A Longer Life
When first starting the bee galaxy. Walk backwards and there should be a sign. Just to the right of that should be a little cliff. Jump on that and you will get a boost in life. (*note: may not work on all bee galaxy levels)
Get A1up
Go under the stairs at the kitchen.
Flying Mario Ability
To get the Flying Mario ability go to the Gate, which is located on that flying island. You can get there when you unlock the Garden observatory. First, go to the castle thing on the planet you appear on. Then a scene will appear and then a red Luma will tell you to get all 100 the purple coins. He will let you use the Flying Mario ability. Then, when you get all the coins, you can go to the red Luma which is located on top of the Bedroom observatory. I hope you enjoy flying!
Easier Bigmouth Galaxy
When you enter the area with the two hemispheresof water, there is no need to collect the starpieces to make a boost star. Instead, get near thewall when you surface, then jump out of the waterand perform a wall jump followed immediately by aspin. You should be in the upper hemisphere.
Better Jumps
When jumping, shake the wii remote to stay in the air for better jumps.

Andy is staying in a secluded cabin in the mountains to witness a stunning meteor shower, which got him thinking about cabin in the woods related horror stories such as Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn and The Quarry – so what a perfect time for him to pit the two against each other in another episode of Video Game Deathmatch!
Until Dawn was released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4 while The Quarry was released in 2022 for the PlayStation 4 and 5, the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Both games share a lot in common but just enough to make it a competitive (and bloody) face-off.
The two games compete in the following categories: Characters, Story, Location, Gameplay, and The Scare Factor. The game with the most W’s will be declared the winner.
While Andy tries to analyse and compare Until Dawn and The Quarry, he has to deal with a masked psychopath who was last seen on these mountains during the last meteor shower, and now Andy is running for his life as the slasher killer butchers his way through the mountains.

Welcome to a most weeby entry in the 1UP Pod, as we take a look at Yoko Taro's acclaimed scifi action RPG, NieR Automata.
Developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix, NieR Automata was a game of many facets. It was either a genre-redefining work of art or an aggressive act of trolling the gamer, depending on who you asked. You can find out where Sasha, Becky, Andy & Chip all landed on this matter over the course of the episode.
The gang discuss their overall thoughts on NieR Automata - from the game design to the world design, to the unique/contentious story structure. The multiple endings are discussed, including an incredible one involving bad fish and how the gang feel about this approach to storytelling.
The game's approach to philosophy is covered extensively, is it nihilistic or is it hopeful? And why do the gang briefly discuss Sephiroth's penis when this isn't even about Final Fantasy VII?

Join our host, Bash, along with Andy & Orange for a new monthly series: Indie Showcase! Taking a look at the indie games that are exciting us the most in the brilliant, innovative, endlessly original world of independent games!
The gang share their favourite indie games of all time, featuring: Disco Elysium, Hades, Papers Please, Journey, Cuphead, Tunic, Celeste, Night in the Woods, and Untitled Goose Game.
Each guest shares the indie games they have been playing over the last month. Bash has been playing and loving her time as cult leader in Cult of the Lamb, and building a new friend in Birth, and they stop to tell anyone getting refunds on indie games under two hours long to go fuck themselves.
Orange has been playing Bramble: The Mountain King, Beacon Pines, and Bash shares that they were a Kickstarter backer for the game – but no one has any idea if their name appears in the credits!
Andy has been receiving a lot of keys from PR companies, so he has been playing the spooky and evocative The Children of Silentown, the hyper-violent Hyperviolent, and the gripping horror (slash) comedy puzzler Killer Frequency.
The gang look ahead to the games they are most excited for in the coming month including Do Not Feed The Monkeys 2099, Planet of Lana, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Fall of Porcupine, Tiny Thor, Scarlet Deer Inn, and Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus.
All the while Andy keeps casually bragging that he is a Steam Deck dickhead now.

The 1UP Pod gang rise from the grave on an unreasonably warm evening to discuss Telltale’s The Walking Dead.
We talk all about the history of the zombie in video games, leading up to the release of Telltale‘s 2012 Game of the Year winning series. In addition, we share our thoughts on The Walking Dead comic books and TV shows and what drew us to Telltale’s take on the franchise.
We get into the story, the illusion of choice in narrative gaming, and some of the difficult (and not so difficult) decisions we made along the way. We also spend a lot of time talking about the heartbreak synonymous with this series and how it affected us to different degrees.
Other discussion points include our thoughts on the core cast (fuck Ben), our experiences with the later seasons, and Chip’s ill-fated ‘dickhead run’ on Twitch.
Our recommendation for this month is Project Zomboid, available on Early Access on Steam.

A look back at when the 1UP Pod gang picked their GOTY 2021 choices:
We are including any first-time play during the year, offering two honourable mentions and our GOTY 2021 choice. Some surprising choices and some utterly unsurprising ones, a regular day at the 1UP Pod.
Spoiler section: Games discussed include Final Fantasy XIV, NieR Automata, Slay The Spire, Disco Elysium, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Oxenfree, Hades, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, Deathloop, and Forza Horizon 5.
We celebrate the unique fun found in janky, buggy games – and the wonderful surprises to be found within genres that we don’t normally enjoy.
Things get real chaotic at the end of the episode when Bash decides to air some New Year grievances, sending the outro into complete and glorious disarray. You will not hear another game of the year special like this one and that’s the 1UP Pod guarantee!

Andy has inherited a cute, low stakes farm from his now dead grandfather. He grows spinach and tends to the cattle. It's all very cozy. This brings to mind two of the best cute, cozy, low stakes life sims on the market - Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing New Horizons.
While Andy contends with life on a farm, he pits these two comfy classics against each other over the course of five categories: Visual Presentation, Sound & Music, NPCs, Gameplay, and Special Events. The game with the most wins will be declared the winner.
Can Andy keep things running smoothly while contending with automatics sprinklers, pesky crows, and difficult fishing spots - before attending the popular Midnight Jellyfish Festival, where nothing could possib-lye go wrong.

Andy has signed up to join a mysterious fighting tournament. While he prepares to battle his way to glory, he takes the time to compare and contrast two iconic early ’90s fighting games – Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat.
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior was released in 1991 in arcades, released by Capcom. It was later ported to the SNES, Mega Drive, and home computers the following year. Mortal Kombat was released in arcades by Midway, and was later ported for the SNES and Mega Drive and handheld systems.
As he fights for his very survival (and an undetermined prize), he pits these two games against each other in the following categories: Presentation, Characters, Gameplay, Special Moves, and Historical Impact.
Which game will prevail as the ultimate fighting classic? Street Fighter II or Mortal Kombat? Will Andy make it to the finals, or will he die in an embarrassing bloodied heap? Listen and find out!

Welcome to the latest episode of 1UP Pod! This month the gang sit down to celebrate 20 years of Steam.
Join Bash, Andy, Orange, and Ben for a discussion on all things Valve and Steam!
The gang discuss the games they have been playing, including En Garde, Democratic Socialism Simulator, Starfield, Portal 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3!
Bash shares a brief history of Steam, from the early plans for the platform to its incredible growth into gaming’s biggest digital storefront and the best indie games library on the planet.
The opening topic of discussion features favourite (and least favourite) Steam features – and a rundown of everyone’s Steam stats that includes the first and last game bought, the size of everyone’s library and wishlist, and most played games! This includes Bash’s latest FFXIV figures and a very surprising name from Andy, that even he doesn’t understand!
The group share the games they’ve bought on Steam based on critical acclaim or popular consensus, split into the games that lived up to the hype and the ones that let us all down.
The episode culminates in some fun bonus rounds where everyone shares their favourite unhinged Steam reviews and the most deranged game they can find on Steam.

Welcome to the latest episode of 1UP Pod’s new series, Retro Reboot! The show that sees our three hosts discussing two retro games of note and then pitching their modern day reboot! This month’s episode includes the notorious Night Trap, Peter Molyneux’s ambitious god-sim Black & White, and overlooked PS1 adventure game Kingsley’s Adventure!
This episode sees Orange, Andy, and Foxy discuss a lot of memorable games (for good and bad reason) – including 1992’s Road Avenger, 1995’s Yoshi’s Island and Donkey Kong Country 2, 1994’s Night Trap, 2001’s Black & White, and 1999’s Kingsley’s Adventure!
Hear about Andy’s personal gaming masochism as he discusses two kinda bad (ok, very bad) Mega CD titles, and then mounting the difficult task of rebooting Night Trap – considered one of the worst games of all time! Foxy gets nostalgic with his favourite platforming game and an incredibly ambitious god-sim that is sadly no longer available to play, while Orange celebrates another platforming sequel and an overlooked gem from the PS1 era.
