Be Thankful for God's Word and His Grace
"Gratitude in His Grace: A Thanksgiving Reflection"
As the fall leaves turn golden and Thanksgiving approaches, our thoughts turn to being thankful. There are both good and bad things in this world, but the Bible gives us hope and leads us to a position of gratitude. "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!" (Psalm 107:1). Let's dig deep into God's Word this Thanksgiving to find the deep ways it encourages us to be thankful.
Recognizing God's Righteousness and Singing His Praises
"I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High," says Psalm 7:17.
This verse often comes to mind when I am praying. This verse tells us that we should be thankful because we know how righteous God is. During my work, I remember a time when a family who had lost a loved one found comfort and strength in remembering how good God is all the time. Their story shows how powerful it is to praise God, even when things are bad.
Being Thankful, No Matter What
Our challenge comes from 1 Thessalonians 5:18, which says, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." At times when things are hard, it can be hard to be grateful, but that's when our faith grows. I've seen people who, even when things were hard, held on to gratitude and found peace and meaning beyond their problems. We are encouraged by their stories to find God's kindness in every part of our lives.
Prayer, Supplication, and Thanksgiving
Philippians 4:6 teaches us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." This verse encourages us to live a prayerful and thankful life. Beginning each day with thanksgiving sets the tone for a life tuned into God's presence and support, which is what I try to do every day.
The Peace of Christ and a Thankful Heart
Colossians 3:15 beautifully states, "And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful." This passage from the Bible shows how Christ's peace can change things and make people feel grateful. We are called to be thankful for each other because we are united in Christ. This makes our community and our own faith stronger.
Steadfastness in Prayer and Thanksgiving
"Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving" (Colossians 4:2). This exhortation encourages us to remain vigilant in our prayer life, always infused with a spirit of thanksgiving. In my counseling, I often encourage individuals to maintain a prayer journal, noting not only their petitions but also their thanksgivings as a testament to God's faithfulness.
Strength, Trust, and Thanksgiving in the Lord
Psalm 28:7 says, "The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” This verse reminds us that God is our strength and safety. Trusting in the Lord has been my personal anchor, providing a foundation of joy and gratitude that permeates all aspects of life.
Being Thankful for Everything in your Life
As we think about these Scriptures, let us develop a heart of gratitude that lasts beyond Thanksgiving. May the truths in these verses come to life in our daily lives as acts of kindness, words of support, and never-ending prayer show how thankful we are. Let's promise that this Thanksgiving, we will not only be thankful but also live in a way that shows our appreciation for God's unwavering love and loyalty. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and may God's peace and kindness always be with you. Read the full article

#Universalis (Calendar Philippines)
Sunday 17 December 2023
3rd Sunday of Advent
The Lord is at hand: come, let us adore him.
Year: B(II). Psalm week: 3.
Liturgical Colour: Rose or Violet.
[O Sapientia!]
O Sapiéntia,
quæ ex ore Altíssimi prodísti,
attíngens a fine usque ad finem,
fórtiter suavitérque dispónens ómnia:
veni ad docéndum nos viam prudéntiæ.
“O Wisdom, you come forth from the mouth of the Most High.
You fill the universe and hold all things together in a strong yet gentle manner.
O come to teach us the way of truth.”
As the great feast of Christmas approaches, its light begins to blot out the lights of the individual days, as planets are blotted out when they appear too close to the Sun.
The great “O Antiphons” at Vespers are worth celebrating even if Vespers itself is not part of your daily pattern.
They count down the last seven days before Christmas and tie together seven threads of hope, longing and doctrine which all find their culmination and final union in the moment of the Incarnation.
<Jesus is the Word and Wisdom of God.>
As Isaiah says,
“On him the spirit of the Lord rests,
a spirit of wisdom and insight,
a spirit of counsel and power.”
[Second Reading:]
Pope St Leo the Great (- 461)
Leo was born in Etruria and became Pope in 440.
He was a true shepherd and father of souls.
He constantly strove to keep the faith whole and strenuously defended the unity of the Church.
He repelled the invasions of the barbarians or alleviated their effects, famously persuading Attila the Hun not to march on Rome in 452, and preventing the invading Vandals from massacring the population in 455.
Leo left many doctrinal and spiritual writings behind and a number of them are included in the Office of Readings to this day.
He died in 461.

[First reading]
#Isaiah61:1-2,10-11 ©
He has sent me to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord
The spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for the Lord has anointed me.
He has sent me to bring good news to the poor, to bind up hearts that are broken; to proclaim liberty to captives,
freedom to those in prison; to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord.
‘I exult for joy in the Lord,
my soul rejoices in my God,
for he has clothed me in the garments of salvation,
he has wrapped me in the cloak of integrity,
like a bridegroom wearing his wreath,
like a bride adorned in her jewels.
‘For as the earth makes fresh things grow,
as a garden makes seeds spring up,
so will the Lord make both integrity and praise
spring up in the sight of the nations.’
[Responsorial Psalm]
#Luke1:46-50,53-54 ©
(My soul rejoices in my God.)
My soul glorifies the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God,
my Saviour.
He looks on his servant in her nothingness;
henceforth all ages will call me blessed.
My soul rejoices in my God.
The Almighty works marvels for me.
Holy his name!
His mercy is from age to age,
on those who fear him.
My soul rejoices in my God.
He fills the starving with good things,
sends the rich away empty.
He protects Israel, his servant,
remembering his mercy.
My soul rejoices in my God.
[Second reading]
#1Thessalonians5:16-24 ©
(May you all be kept safe for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ)
Be happy at all times;
pray constantly; and for all things give thanks to God, because this is what God expects you to do in Christ Jesus.
Never try to suppress the Spirit or treat the gift of prophecy with contempt;
think before you do anything –
hold on to what is good and avoid every form of evil.
May the God of peace make you perfect and holy;
and may you all be kept safe and blameless, spirit, soul and body,
for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God has called you and he will not fail you.
[Gospel Acclamation]
#Is61:(Lk4:18)
Alleluia, alleluia!
The spirit of the Lord has been given to me.
He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor.
Alleluia!
[Gospel]
#John1:6-8,19-28 ©
('There stands among you the one coming after me')
A man came, sent by God.
His name was John.
He came as a witness,
as a witness to speak for the light,
so that everyone might believe through him.
He was not the light,
only a witness to speak for the light.
This is how John appeared as a witness.
When the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him,
‘Who are you?’ he not only declared, but he declared quite openly,
‘I am not the Christ.’
‘Well then,’ they asked ‘are you Elijah?’
‘I am not
he said.
‘Are you the Prophet?’
He answered, ‘No.’
So they said to him,
‘Who are you?
We must take back an answer to those who sent us.
What have you to say about yourself?’
So John said,
‘I am,
as Isaiah prophesied:
a voice that cries in the wilderness:
Make a straight way for the Lord.’
Now these men had been sent by the Pharisees, and they put this further question to him,
‘Why are you baptising if you are not the Christ,
and not Elijah, and not the prophet?’
John replied, ‘I baptise with water;
but there stands among you – unknown to you – the one who is coming after me;
and I am not fit to undo his sandal-strap.’
This happened at Bethany, on the far side of the Jordan, where John was baptising.

I Am Grateful For All.
Be Thankful. Be grateful for all that you have. We do not have everything, but we believe it is a beautiful life, It means we are content with what we have, and that is good enough for us to praise God for our lives. When we are happy, joyful, and satisfied with what God has given us. A grateful heart will find it easy to rejoice. The cheerful heart will find joy and contentment. "Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Help A Soul now and share our devotion with them daily. Be A Solution, a guide, a helper, and an encourager to someone out there, you never know how you can touch someone. I Am Grateful For All.
I am Grateful for All. I will praise you, my God and King of kings, and bless your name forever and ever. Psalms 145:1 Your Gratitude is a matter of the equations of your attitudes. Because if everyone knows how to think, given God praise will not be difficult. You cry, weep, shout and get irritated at little things, yet nothing change. Instead of increasing, you are decreasing, because of unappreciated attitude. Let me tell, praising God at all time will terminate every negative emotion, anger, hatred and those little things that irritate you. Praise to God through the terrible condition, will turn things around. God works all things together for our good and advantage. Philippians 4:4, says, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will repeat it: Rejoice!" Rejoice in the Lord, not in men. However, you can rejoice with men and rejoice in God. Sincere Christian attitude will always rejoice, and still give thanks to the Lord, even in pain or gain; poor or rich; having nothing or possessing everything. Rejoice in the Lord. Everything that happened is the result of awe God's love for you. He loves you so much that He is willing to do anything just because of you in Christ. I encourage you to be thankful, give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name; make known his deeds among your families, friends, and neighbors. Always hope in the Lord your God, not in your man or woman. "Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Prayer 1. Lookup your best worship song and sing it now. 2. I am so grateful for your presence. I have been blessed with many wonderful things that I cannot even describe. 3. Lord Jesus Christ almighty! Thank you for being my friend and mentor, Pray about today’s Word as you lead by the Holy Spirit. 4. In the mighty name of Jesus God of wonders and miracle worker visit me with Your UNCOMMON presence in Jesus name. Help A Soul now and share our devotion with them daily.
