Why Do We Love...
Shannen Doherty
We continue with this series called "Why Do We Love" in which we share the love for our muses on their birthday, and today is Shannen Doherty's turn!
Tumblr media
[The typical 1990s Shannen/Brenda image. Shannen in 1991 by Mario Casilli]
It was the early 1990s, a Friday evening at our granny's. She was watching the telly, "Beverly Hills 90210", with the Spanish title "Sensación de Vivir" (roughly translated as Feel of Living). There was this beautiful tiny brunette girl called Brenda, who had a twin brother called Brandon, and she was passionate about acting, and she was trying her best to be a good student and a good girl, but sometimes, of course, she did mistakes. And we fell in love with her! Maybe because she was petite like us, or brunette like us, or was a twin like us!
Tumblr media
[The Beverly Hills gang pictured in 1991 by Andrew Semel]
Then we kind of "forget" her and, even we knew when we were teens that she was playing a good modern witch in Charmed, we didn't watch that show (I don't know why, since the subject was very appealing to us. Maybe our parents were watching something else on the telly at the time the show aired?). We were more focused on Drew Barrymore at that time, anyway.
But then, when we were in our late teens or early twenties, through a website I created for some of my favourite actresses, I "reconnected" with Shannen! And then I learnt she had been acting since she was 11, and that she had an amazing rock/grunge fashion sense when she was young!
Tumblr media
[Shannen as Jenny Wilder in "Little House of the Prairie". She was there in the last 2 seasons, 1982 & 1983, and some farewell films from 1983 & 1984]

[Beautiful Shannen in 1992 & 1993]
We also found out that in the 1990s she was hated by many Hollywood men influencers, as she was a very strong and confident woman, she was always voicing her opinion and not everyone agreed, so they labelled her as difficult. She was also followed with the press everywhere all of the time. She made some mistakes and bad decisions, as she is human, but the tabloids were always there annoying her, which fe found very sad, as she was just a young girl who wanted to live from her dream, from her art and from her craft.
Tumblr media
[Shannen as Brenda in Beverly Hills, in the fourth season of the show, her last]
We finally re-watched all the 4 seasons of Beverly Hills in which Shannen was (the so called "Brenda Years"), and although today it looks very sexist (as Brandon can do what he wants and he is the good boy, while his sister Brenda always gets punished for things she does that are not as bad as her brother's), back in the day broke many stereotypes about teenagers and the issues they faced with friends, lovers, sex, alcohol, drugs, racism, sexism, animals rights... it was interesting to see that some things were very dated but some others were still very current subjects.

We also recently watched "Charmed", not only the first 3 seasons starring Shannen, but some others as well. It might have been one of the first TV shows for wide audiences about witches, demons, good/evil and special effects. I personally loved her Prue character, although not always agreed with her. She was the oldest sister and wanted to protect her younger sisters, and kept them together. I also like that they lived together in an old Victorian house in San Francisco. She was at her most beautiful in this TV show, and she also got to direct the last 3 episodes in which she appeared.

[Shannen as the good witch Prue Halliwell in Charmed]
Shannen is also an activist and author, besides being an actress, director and model. She fights for animal rights, she is an animal lover since she was a little girl, and she supports the Sea Shepherd Sea Society. Shannen is a vegetarian and is against animal captivity.
Tumblr media
[Shannen in 2015 for the "World Love For Dolphins Day" rallying against the dolphin's slaughter in Taiji, Japan, with the Sea Shepherd]
Shannen is also a cancer survivor, she suffered a breast cancer in 2015 that went to remission on 2017 but came back on 2020. However, this hasn't stopped her acting or making her voice loud for animals' rights, people's rights (when her house was burned on a fire she sued the insurance company, and many other owners joined her), or actors' rights (recently she posted about how her acting union didn't support her when she was sick and couldn't work).
Tumblr media
[Shannen in 2016 with dogs rescued from the meat factories in South East Asia by the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation, in Los Angeles]
She is very strong and despite all the hate she has received and all the hardships she has endured, Shannen is a warm and lovely woman according to her fans, and she finally is receiving the love and recognition from press and people that she's always deserved. We met her very recently and we are very excited too!! She was very sweet and lovely!
Today, for her 52nd birthday, we wanted to share with all of you, dear followers, how we knew about Shannen and what made us love her.
Here we share:

Hi there! I'm looking to play a couple of my characters in an older verse, but I've been having trouble settling on faces I think might fit for them in their late thirties/early forties. The characters in question currently have the faces of Danielle Campbell (played as a twenty-four year old) and Andrew Garfield (played as a twenty-seven year old), and any suggestions you could offer up for both or even just one at a time would be much appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!
Danielle Campbell:
Bellamy Young (1970)
Shannen Doherty (1971)
Robin Tunney (1972)
Carice van Houten (1976)
Caitriona Balfe (1979)
Maimie McCoy (1980)
Zooey Deschanel (1980)
Antje Traue (1981)
Lauren Cohan (1982)
Emily Blunt (1983)
Andrew Garfield - Andrew is currently 35 so you could use his most recent resources!
Ruben Fleischer (1974) Ashkenazi Jewish / Welsh, Ukrainian or Rusyn (mother, who converted to Judaism)
Ben Foster (1980) Ashkenazi Jewish / English, French, Irish, distant Welsh and Scottish (mother; who may have converted to Judaism)
Jason Schwartzman (1980) Ashkenazi Jewish / Italian.

Ecco alcune dichiarazioni in merito:
Shannen Doherty vita privata

2. pretty in pink (1986) – andie (molly ringwald) is an outcast at her chicago high school, hanging out either with her older boss (annie potts), who owns the record store where she works, or her quirky classmate duckie (jon cryer), who has a crush on her. 7. the outsiders (1983) – a teen gang in rural oklahoma, the greasers are perpetually at odds with the socials, a rival group. when greasers ponyboy (c. thomas howell) and johnny (ralph macchio) get into a brawl that ends in the death of a social member, the boys are forced to go into hiding. soon ponyboy and johnny, along with the intense dallas (matt dillon) and their other greaser buddies, must contend with the consequences of their violent lives. while some greasers try to achieve redemption, others meet tragic ends.
8. the breakfast club (1985) – five high school students from different walks of life endure a saturday detention under a power-hungry principal (paul gleason). the disparate group includes rebel john (judd nelson), princess claire (molly ringwald), outcast allison (ally sheedy), brainy brian (anthony michael hall) and andrew (emilio estevez), the jock. each has a chance to tell his or her story, making the others see them a little differently – and when the day ends, they question whether school will ever be the same.
9. running on empty (1988) – arthur pope (judd hirsch) and his wife, annie (christine lahti), are fugitives, perpetually on the run from federal authorities due to their antiwar activity during the 1960s. the couple moves around the country with their two sons – young harry (jonas abry) and his older teenage brother, danny (river phoenix). on the verge of adulthood, danny longs to set out on his own and live a more stable life, but he knows this could mean permanent separation from his family.
10. the lost boys (1987) – teenage brothers michael (jason patric) and sam (corey haim) move with their mother (dianne wiest) to a small town in northern california. while the younger sam meets a pair of kindred spirits in geeky comic-book nerds edward (corey feldman) and alan (jamison newlander), the angst-ridden michael soon falls for star (jami gertz) – who turns out to be in thrall to david (kiefer sutherland), leader of a local gang of vampires. sam and his new friends must save michael and star from the undead.

A.K.... Retrouvez cet article sur Public

After production ended on the long-running "Little House on the Prairie" series, three made-for-TV movies helped wrap up the series. The first of these, "Look Back to Yesterday," depicts Albert's heroic battle with an ultimately fatal illness. Albert interviews at the University of Minnesota, where he plans to study medicine. Albert (unbeknownst to anyone else) suffers from unexplained nosebleeds and is always tired. His family later finds out about the nosebleeds, and a physician from Mankato informs Charles the symptoms point to a deadly form of leukemia, and that Albert has a short time to live. Albert adamantly states his wishes to live out what may be his final days in Walnut Grove; he falls in love with childhood friend Michelle Pierson (who also plans to attend the University of Minnesota to study education) and spends many of his hours with his beloved sister, Laura. Laura, however, is in denial that her brother will soon die, and wants her equally-beloved brother to rest. Albert gives an emotional speech about living each day to the fullest to his one-time classmates, who are organizing their annual trip to the Keepsake tree (which sits atop a steep incline and contains items donated by the alumnus of Walnut Grove School). Meanwhile, Walnut Grove has fallen on hard times because of a dispute between the farmers, who want to sell their crops, and the railroad. Charles helps organize an effort where the farmers work as sharecroppers, to help put an end to the dispute. The farmers are initially against the idea (only John Carter, Dr. Baker, Mr. Edwards and Nels Olesen are for Charles' idea at first), until Albert passionately tells of how he always admired the spirit of cooperation of Walnut Grove's farmers. Meanwhile, Jason Carter has a case of puppy love, and announces his intention to sneak a kiss from fellow classmate Amy Bryant.
Shannen played the role of Jenny Wilder.
TV film aired on December 12, 1983.

In the second sequel of the popular TV series, during preparations for a Christmas baby, Laura and Almanzo are forced to go looking for Rose Wilder who was kidnapped by a woman who recently lost her child. While looking for Rose, Laura, Almanzo and Mr Edwards meet a young lonely orphan boy looking for a home, who ends up living with that woman. Also, Jason Carter wishes to give his mother a happy Christmas.
Shannen plays the role of Jenny Wilder.
TV film aired on December 17, 1984. This movie forms part of the unofficial final season 10 trilogy. Accordingly, this should ideally be watched in its originally intended middle story position, due to the nature of the explosive season 10 finale. Although this was the second sequel telefilm produced, it was actually the last "Little House" story to air on NBC in December, 1984 (it had been kept on the NBC shelf for a year).

In the series finale, the town of Walnut Grove is revealed to have been built on land owned by a railroad tycoon. The citizens deal with the loss of their town and lifestyles, and some must decide how best to respond to this explosive event.
Shannen plays the role of Jenny Wilder.
TV film originally aired on February 6, 1984. This was the third of three "Little House" telemovie sequels, and the last story to be filmed, but not the last to be broadcast (it debuted during February 1984, while the film made before it, "Little House: Bless All the Dear Children", aired ten months later, in December of that same year).

In July 1984 New World announced they would make a film inspired by the 1983 Cyndi Lauper's hit song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun". The company bought the rights to the song and title from songwriter Robert Hazard's publishing company but Lauper said she did not want to appear in the film and refused to allow her version to be used. The filmmakers were not allowed to use the alternations that Lauper made to the song, including adding several lyrics.
A cover of the song by unknowns Deborah Galli, Tami Holbrook, and Meredith Marshall is featured. The most popular song from the soundtrack is "(Come On) Shout", performed by session singer, Alex Brown. The song and the accompanying music video brought Alex some momentary fame during the time of the movie's release.
