The Miser Brothers Songs
youtube
Favorite Christmas Music and Videos #3.
The Miser Brothers Songs are next on my Christmas List. From the loved special, ''The Year Without A Santa Clause,'' comes the bickering siblings, Heat Miser and Snowe Miser, the sons of Mother Nature.
Snow Miser sings of how he loves the snow and ice while Heat Miser sings of heat and boiling temperatures.

1974 Marvel UK ad for the Marvel Treasury Special: Giant Superhero Holiday Grab-Bag. One of two titles that came out under the Marvel Treasury Special header. It was more common to see over-sized titles like this released as a Marvel Treasury Edition.

The second part of our movie night double feature! This next movie may seem like an odd choice, but to me it’s in theme of transitioning from Halloween to Christmas. Next up is Black Christmas (1974). This movie is a classic slasher film that set the premise for a lot of later films like Halloween and When a Stranger Calls. You really feel anxious waiting for what’s coming next, not to mention the ending genuinely surprised me. To me it still holds up, and it a nice way to mix up your movie night with a different genre of film. Give it a try if you want.

ULTIMATE SUPERGIRL READING GUIDE
Tumblr media
since i've been asked a few times in the past for various reading guides for kara, i thought i'd compile them all into one post for the sake of convenience!
this guide has reading orders for supergirl comics in PRE-CRISIS (1959-1985), POST-CRISIS (2004-2011), NEW 52 (2011-2016), REBIRTH (2016-2021), and INFINITE FRONTIER (2021-present).
if you have any questions at all don't be afraid to shoot me an ask!
for each section bolded comics are required, italicized comics are recommended, and everything else is optional!

Have you or a loved one been plagued by horny visions of Anton Chigurh from the hit 2007 Coen Brothers film No Country For Old Men based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy???
Well buckle up for ANTON FRIDAYS, where I’ll be posting 1 to 3 reader x Anton fics every Friday for the rest of the year!
(There will be 31 fics in total! I can’t keep up with kinktober because work is insane for me this time of year and I have not had a proper rest in 2 months, so I decided to do my own thing!)
Each fic will either include a gender-neutral reader (i.e. reader can be read as any gender, no pronouns or specific genitalia descriptors are used), or will include 2 chapters both with gender neutral pronouns, with one geared towards an AFAB reader and one for an AMAB reader.
Each month will have a bit of a theme, as well!
For October, I decided to mash my love of horror movies and NCFOM together to do a lot of horror-adjacent fics, so gear up for some AUs featuring slasher Anton, vampire Anton, phone stalker Anton, and more, as well as general macabre-themed fics.
For November, the leaves are changing so we’re doing some switching – this month’s fics will have Anton taking on a more submissive position!
And for December, is it getting a bit cold in here? Or is it just Anton being Anton? This month will be focused on...well, Anton being a bit mean, for lack of a better word.
(NOTE: Titles and release order are subject to change!)
Here's the prompt list below the cut! I'll be updating the list with links as I post them to my AO3.

Andy Williams with his family for one of his Christmas specials. Your local PBS station may air one each year. A treat!
Williams recorded eight Christmas albums & his TV specials were regular staples of the holidays until 1974 and intermittently from 1982 into the 1990s.

I'm really embracing the golden age of seventies and eighties Canadian horror at the moment. Canadian horror movies possess their own idiosyncratic atmosphere, and as a Canadian expat of a certain age, they flood me with nostalgia. (Luckily, the 24-hour “horror station” NYX UK here schedules a lot of them). Obviously, I love the genuinely great disturbing David Cronenberg films of the era like Shivers (1975), Rabid (1977) and The Brood (1979), but also the less reputable, often endearingly schlockier genre fare as well like Cannibal Girls (1973), perennial holiday favourite Black Christmas (1974), Cries in the Night (1980) (aka Funeral Home) and Curtains (1983). Anytime they cut to a scene set in scrubby countryside in desolate winter, I turn to Pal and say, “This looks like where I come from!” Recently watched: Cathy’s Curse (tagline: “I sent mommy to the madhouse. I scared the butler to death. I threw nanny out the window. Now three of us are left. Daddy, dolly and me … me … ME!"). Filmed in the vicinity of Montreal, Quebec, this inadvertently hilarious no-budget 1977 hybrid of The Exorcist (1973) and The Bad Seed (1956) boasts wildly kitsch bargain basement special effects, a cursed doll (is it meant to resemble Marlene Dietrich?) and a cornucopia of gruesome 1970s clothes and décor. And there are two genuinely astonishing performances: fragile wife and mother Vivian is recuperating from a miscarriage and nervous breakdown. The way actress Beverly Murray attacks Vivian’s paranoid mood swings anticipates Mink Stole’s tantrums as Peggy Gravel in John Waters’ Desperate Living (1977). And behold the eccentric acting choices of Mary Morter as the bespectacled psychic medium. Watch Cathy’s Curse here.

It’s Fine Press Friday!
In the spirit of Christmas’s arrival in three days, we present a small Christmas-themed book entitled An Alphabet of Christmas Words, published in 1966. The book is a dictionary of holiday terms, with corresponding illustrations. Entries were selected and edited from the Oxford English Dictionary by American writer Helen McKelvey Oakley (1906-2003), who explains that her “interest [in this project] lies in seeing how The Dictionary treats [each term].” The accompanying illustrations are by Ursula Suess (b. 1924), a graphic designer, calligrapher, and artist. Everything I Found from House Of Leaves Appendix B: "Bits"
Going through this book has been a nightmare I never want to wake up from. At the point where we read Appendix B during Holloway's (his name sounds so much like hallway) rampage, I read the appendices as embedded, and I've made some interesting discoveries about the lines included in Appendix B no one's pointed out, including historical and architectural knowledge. Disclaimer, I'm no expert, just a girl who loves this book.
I will go in order by date. Some of these will be obvious, others not so much.
Jan 18, 1955
"Art with a capital A" could refer to Arthur D Simmons, an army special forces colonel that trained recruits at an air force base during the time period, and likely could've trained Zampamó.
Aug 29, 1960
Joseph Kittinger, Command Pilot, set the world record for highest skydive from a service plane at that time.
Apr 29, 1975
Operation Frequent Wind was a mass evacuation via airlift in Saigon, Vietnam, signaled over radio to begin by the song White Christmas. From April 29th to April 30th. STOP is telegram formatting.
Mar 18, 1989
M.A could reference Military Assistance Command Vietnam, usually MACV, a joint army, navy, and airforce service in Vietnam.
Oct 11, 1990
Günter Nitschke is an author on East Asian architecture. See author bio here. Norberg-Schulz is an architect who wrote architectural theory and is also quoted at the start of chapter six. Glas is a book by French Philosopher Jacques Derrida, which MZD once worked on a documentary about. 1974 is year of original publication. John P Leavey Junior and Richard Rand are English translators of the book. Z seems upset he cannot get the original French edition.

According to the House of Leaves forum this translates to "What are you watching?" "Nothing, sir.". Thread includes speculation on what this could mean. Thank you sutrix.

Parlipomena means "things omitted from a work and added as a supplement".

The Seven Lamps of Architecture is an essay by John Ruskin, listing demands for architecture to be considered "good", many of which fit thematically with House of Leaves.
Sacrifice: Architecture should be done to please God.
Truth: Refers to honesty (in book in reference to materials and structure).
Power: "Buildings should be thought of in terms of their massing and reach towards the sublimity of nature by the action of the human mind upon them and the organization of physical effort in constructing buildings."
Beauty: Aspiration towards God
Life: "Buildings should be made by human hands."
Memory: "Buildings should respect the culture from which they have developed"
Obedience: Pre-existing English architectural values should be followed.
The lamps have a clear connection to the House, but lamp number seven is fascinating in context with colonialism and the war Z was fighting in when he wrote this.
Dec 18, 1996
James D Redwood is a Vietnam vet who wrote Love Beneath the Napalm, stories about the war and it's after effects. Z probably had contact with him during the war.
Interesting stuff. As for any other mysteries in Bits, I have no idea. Hopefully this can be of help to someone getting through HOL.
