The #MGB has been a staple of club racing for 57 years thanks to it’s low cost of entry, long production life, and truckloads of performance parts. But the rarest MGB racers are the factory cars - prepared by BMC and later British Leyland for entry into Le Mans and other major events. Because the 6-cyl MGC was about to take over as MG’s performance leader, these cars are the last four-cylinder “works” MG sports cars, built primarily for Sebring and the Targa Florio. - The “Herrington MG-B” started life as a regular MGB plucked from the line at Abingdon and sent to BMC’s U.S. HQ in New Jersey. There it was transformed into a practice car for Paddy Hopkirk and Andrew Hedges - scheduled to run the ’67 Sebring 12-hr. The real race car was still being prepared by BMC Competitions. Both drivers knew the B well, as Hopkirk had already piloted several hero drives in MGBs including the class win at LeMans in 1963, and the pair had DNF’d in the ’66 Sebring after their MGB roadster broke a connecting rod. Nevertheless, the familiarization car set them up for a good outing (11th overall) in the real car; known by it’s registration - LWL 591E. - When “LWL” was shipped back to the U.K. it was heavily damaged at the docks, and so a new car was built with the same registration; but now in racing green. It campaigned again at Sebring in March ’68, but by then Hopkirk and Hedges were piloting an MGC. They switched back to “LWL” for the Targa Florio 2 months later, finishing 12th, behind Alfa T33s and Porsche 907s. It also ran the ’69 Sebring race. It was eventually sold and became a club racer. - In the meantime, the old practice car was “gifted” to Herrington Motors, an import shop in Warwick, NY run by privateer Bill Herrington, who transformed the car into the “Herrington MG-B” and continued to race it until entering it in the 1970 Sebring 12-hr, where it had a spectacular crash (everyone walked away). It was mounted above a bar for many years, before the bar burned down. Both cars were eventually reunited and lovingly restored by Ralph Zbarsky, who continues to race them and drive them on the road - they are road registered and legal in their current British Columbia home. The Frontline Developments Abingdon Edition MGB: A British Icon Reborn
This episode from XCar focusses on the Frontline Developments Abingdon Edition MGB, a comprehensively rebuilt MGB offering modern levels of performance and reliability, in a beautiful and quintessentially British roadster package.
The MGB is a sports car that deserves to be held in higher regard than it typically is, it was first offered for sale in 1963 with an advanced unibody monocoque body, a bulletproof four cylinder 1.8 litre engine, and excellent handling by the standards of the era. MG raced them in the Sebring 12 Hours, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, even in the Monte Carlo Rally.
The affordable, humble roadster developed a reputation for being a working class sports car, a blue collar favourite that would eventually sell almost 500,00 units worldwide with most going to the USA.
In the modern age the MGB in both roadster and coupe formats has developed a reputation for being inexpensive, and as a result it’s not as well respected as its peers. I think this is a significant oversight, and any MGB owner will talk your ear off about the fun that can be had behind the wheel of one of these remarkable cars – and how cheap they are to maintain.
MG offered the basic B design with a four cylinder engine initially, it was also offered with a six cylinder in the MGC, and an all-alloy V8 in the MGB GT V8. This V8 version of the MGB is my personal favourite because of the power and sound it offers, but the modern Frontline Developments MGB offers both of these things in a more modern and fuel efficient package.
This XCar episode from the team behind MotorPunk hosted by Darryl Sleath and Rich Duisberg, gives a great look into the Frontline Developments factory in England, and they take you on a ride in one of the company’s modern MGBs.

Delightful photos celebrate 100 years of women in the Met Police
A special service of thanksgiving is being held at Westminster Abbey today to mark 100 years since women were first allowed to join the Metropolitan Police.
Today’s event will echo a similar one on May 17, 1919, which was held to honour fallen police officers from World War One.
It was the first time female police officers wore their uniforms in public.
And a century later, today’s Met police women will stand in replica 1919 uniforms on the Clive Steps in Westminister and pose for the same picture.
Some 2,000 people are set to attend the service today which will include a range of testimonies and readings by women officers of varying ranks and departments, including a recollection of the 1919 service written after it took place by Lilian Wyles, the Met’s first woman in CID.
In 1919 women were never sworn into the force and there were just 21 women patrols.
Policewomen didn’t have the power to make arrests and they were paid less than men.
Cressida Dick became the Met’s first female Commissioner when she was appointed in 2017.
She said: ‘One hundred years ago today, on 17 May 1919, Met Police women appeared in public for the first time at a special service at Westminster Abbey held to honour the losses of officers in the first world war.
‘A century on, in 2019, I am delighted that Westminster Abbey will once again host a unique service and welcome on this occasion not just a handful, but thousands of Met police women, who will represent even more of their colleagues.’
A special service of thanksgiving is being held at Westminster Abbey today to mark 100 years since women were first allowed to join the Metropolitan Police. The service will echo a similar event held in 1919 where policewomen wore their uniforms in public for the first time
Metropolitan Police Comimssioner Cressida Dick stands with a vintage police car before going into Westminster Abbey for the special service today
It wasn’t until 1918 that women were allowed to apply to work for the Metropolitan Police. As part of the application requirements, candidates had to be at least 5’4. Pictured are policewomen Eva Christy (on horseback) and Nina Boyle in the 1910s. Ms Boyle was also a journalist and campaigner for women’s suffrage and rights
Campaigns for women to be accepted into the police force began in 1910 when Edith Tancred and Dorothy Peto began insisting on the need for female police officers. Pictured are members of the Women’s Police Force arriving at Buckingham Palace to attend a party for war workers in July 1919
Police Officers Superintendent Sophia Stanley (seated), the first Superintendent of Women Police, and three women police officers (left to right: Elinor J Robertson, served 1919-1922, Charlotte Grace Dixon and Sergeant Violet Butcher), wearing the new Stanley Uniform, introduced in 1919. The tunic was single-breasted with six metal buttons down the front and a snake clasp belt. Black woollen stockings were worn, and boots with a one-inch heel. The helmet was made of cork and hard felt. Although Harrods fitted and made the uniform, the material was coarse and uncomfortable. In 1926 changes were made to make it more comfortable and practical
Scotland Yard’s first female Commissioner, Cressida Dick spearheaded a campaign at the end of last year to encourage more women to join the force and end male domination in senior ranks. The campaign, Strong, is its first recruitment drive targeting women, aiming to tackle the known barriers for women and challenge gender stereotypes
Current figures show that only 27 per cent of officers in Britain’s largest force are women but Commissioner Cressida Dick says she sees no reason why this figure can’t increase to 50 per cent. Pictured is a policewomen taking part in the first female police patrol and giving directions to a car driver in September 1929 in London
Women Police Volunteers was an organisation founded in 1914 by Nina Doyle and Margaret Damer Dawson. One of its volunteers was Edith Smith, who became the first female police officer who was given full power of arrest
By February 1919 some 25 female officers had been hired, including the Met’s first woman in CID – Lilian Wyles. Pictured is a Met policewoman pointing while she gives directions in London to a family of visitors from out of town in the 1920s
Summing up the centenary celebrations, Assistant Commissioner Helen Ball said: ‘We are bonded to the officers of 1919 and all those who have come since by our collective determination, strength and the enduring promise to serve the public. We will always strive to improve and we hope that in another 100 years those who follow us will look back with pride, as we do today.’ One of a series of watercolours of London’s Waterloo Station, during World War Two, by Helen McKie showing a policewoman talking to a Grenadier Guard in 1942
Women who had dependent young children were banned from applying for the force and the Met made it clear that no woman would ever be sworn in as a constable and that they would not get a pension. Pictured is WPC Joyce Green giving a smart hand signal while on patrol in London in the 1950s
Until the 1970s, police forces segregated female officers from the men. They would have separate duties, ranks and occasionally even facilities. Pictured are Met policewomen showing off their new uniforms in 1950
The situation changed in the 1970s with the creation of the Equal Pay Act 1970 and Sex Discrimination Act 1975. By 1973 the Met had integrated all of its female police officers. Pictured is London’s first squad of mobile policewomen posed together in uniform behind a British Motor Corporation MGB sports car at a Metropolitan Police press launch event in the capital on April 6, 1963
Fay Allen was the first non-white policewoman in the Met and served from 1968 to 1972. She was born in Jamaica and qualified as a nurse in Croydon before applying to work as a policewoman. She is reported to have said: ‘On the day I joined I nearly broke a leg trying to run away from reporters. I realised then that I was a history maker. But I didn’t set out to make history, I just wanted a change of direction’
Ms Allen treating a recruit who was injured during treatment. She left the force in 1972 to move back to Jamaica where she joined the police force there until she moved back to England in 2015
Ms Peto joined the National Union of Women Workers in 1914 and organised voluntary female patrols. She became the first female Superintendent at the Metropolitan Police and served between 1930 and 1946. Pictured are policewomen in London posing in their new uniforms in 1967
There are currently 8,000 women in the Metropolitan Police, compared with a whopping 22,000 men. The Met’s aim is to have an even ratio. Pictured are WPCs Dilys Puddephatt and Marie Leemans in 1967
After the First World War Britain was plunged into economic dire straits and needed to make public expenditure cuts. Because the Commissioner didn’t view duties being done by female police officers as ‘proper work’, they were the first to go. Pictured are twin WPCs Susan and Sally Potts in Croydon, 1977
However, by 1923, some 50 female officers were re-sworn, this time with full powers of arrest. By the time the Second World War started in 1939 over 100 policewomen had been sworn in. Pictured are Met policewomen during a break in duties near the Libyan Embassy in St James’s Square during the 11-day seige after WPC Yvonne Fletcher was fatally shot while on duty during a protest demo against Colonel Gadaffi in 1984
Compared with other large cities in the UK, London had far more female police officers than most, with 14 in Glasgow, 13 in Birmingham and six in Manchester. Pictured are three Met policewomen who received public order training in February 1986. Left to right: Fiona Roberts, 26, Jan Rodgers, 25 and Tracy Wilcock, 25
Three female British police officers march during the Metropolitan Police Service’s 175th Anniversary service on June 4, 2004 in London, England
Scotland Yard’s first female Commissioner, Cressida Dick, said of today’s service: ‘I am delighted that Westminster Abbey will once again host a unique service and welcome on this occasion not just a handful, but thousands of Met police women, who will represent even more of their colleagues. As one of London’s foremost iconic, and historic locations, the Abbey is a most fitting setting for us to pay tribute to those brave pioneers from the past and reflect upon their achievements as well as highlight those of our present workforce – 8,000 women from a huge diversity of backgrounds doing influential and important roles at every rank and in every department’
Ms Dick added: ‘We will share with our guests today, an atmosphere of excitement and pride and we will look to the future with hope that many more will join us to write the next chapter of the Met’s remarkable history’. Pictured is an armed policewoman patrolling while Tony Blair opened the Fashion Retail Academy in London in October 2006
Pictured are two policewomen showing the difference between modern day uniform (left, 2009) and the first uniform policewomen wore (right, 1919)
STILL A ‘LONG WAY TO GO’ FOR GENDER EQUALITY, SAYS MET CHIEF
Metropolitan Police boss Cressida Dick has paid tribute to the first women police officers in the force but acknowledges they still have a ‘long way to go’ to achieve gender equality.
Current figures show that only 27% of officers in Britain’s largest force are women.
The commissioner became the first woman to hold the most senior post in British policing in 2017.
On how the profession has changed for women, Ms Dick said: ‘It’s changed hugely, I’ve been a police officer since 1983 and there are so many more women.’
‘In the last 15 years, every single role has genuinely been open to women. Specialisms, ranks, we’ve got women doing anything and everything.
‘When I joined, it tended to be one on this team, one on that team, and certain things weren’t open to women at all.
Scotland Yard’s first female Commissioner, Cressida Dick, paid tribute to the first women police officers in the force but acknowledges they still have a ‘long way to go’ to achieve gender equality
‘I loved it then and I love it now but it is utterly different.’
Asked about if she considers herself a role model, Ms Dick said: ‘If people do look at somebody like me and think, “well, if she can do it, I can do it, I feel a bit different and she looks a bit different, so I might have a go” – that’s brilliant, that’s great.’
Ms Dick spearheaded a campaign at the end of last year to encourage more women to join the force and end male domination in senior ranks.
The campaign, Strong, is its first recruitment drive targeting women, aiming to tackle the known barriers for women and challenge gender stereotypes.
‘Already about a third of the Met is women but I think it could be much more and in particular amongst police officers, it’s only 27 per cent at the moment. I don’t understand why, in the future, it wouldn’t be 50 per cent,’ she said.
‘We’ve got a long way to go, we’re working really hard to inspire women to join us in a variety of different ways.
‘But also to make the workplace an even better place for men and women to be.’
She said, ‘We’ve got a long way to go, we’re working really hard to inspire women to join us in a variety of different ways,’ during a thanksgiving ceremony today to commemorate 100 years of women in the Metropolitan Police

Documentary: The History of the MGB
Documentary: The History of the MGB #mg #mgb #classiccar #vintagecar #car #cars #auto
This documentary about the history of the MGB, and to a lesser extent the history of MG as a whole, covers the development of one of the most famous sports cars in the world.
The MGB was a little unusual when it was first released in 1963, unibody cars were still relatively uncommon with many manufacturers still using body-on-frame construction.
If anything the MGB unibody was over-engineered and…

Sudesh Rocharam Anti-Fraud Of GTI Spares Lenasia
The Time Now provides G T Autospares full information. The MGB, the epitome of the basic British sports activities automotive, has attracted a huge following all through the world because of its down-to-earth mix of unpolluted appears, affordable performance, good practicality and respectable road manners. True to MG tradition, it captured the hearts of lovers from the beginning, in 1962. SUDESH PREMCHAND ROCHARAM went on to turn into the all-time best promoting British sports activities car, its appeal broadening with the arrival of the fixed-roof GT model in 1965, the six-cylinder MGC in 1967, and the MGB GT V8 in 1973.
Backyard Tractor Spares is the most important online spares dealer, with hundreds of components in inventory. We’ve a step-by-step course of to find your actual elements, in the fastest doable time. Alfa Romeo GT vehicles were produced exclusively within the coupe body. In 2003, the company developed a convertible idea based on the Alfa Romeo GT, which was launched solely in 2011.
Coming as a refreshing change of pace, the 2018 Ford Mustang eliminates the V6 trim completely, whereas the engines of the opposite three trims run stronger out of the showroom because of improved charging and design, scorching the pavement with +30 ft-lbs of torque for the two.3L Eco Boost, +25 HP and +20 ft-lbs for the 5.0L GT, and staying the identical for the GT350. The entrance finish redesign incorporates customary LED lighting for a modern incarnation of a classic icon. Add a private component with eye-catching wheels to hoods and hood scoops, reducing springs for a tough-charging stance plus superior handling, and much more.
Ever since our opening week of commerce again in 1967, the devoted crew right here at Mini Sport have maintained the same ‘excessive-high quality merchandise, on the right costs’ ethos that makes up the DNA of our enterprise. Top-of-the-line points about this particular little automobile that we love is its means to supply value-efficient worth to their house owners - something that we are decided to mirror in the elements and spares that we retail.
In 1961 brothers Dennis Adams and Peter Adams started working with Marcos and introduced a number of modifications to the unique design. The Marcos Luton Gullwing and the Spyder were launched in November 1961. This design was again reworked, changing into the Marcos Fastback GT, which was displayed at the London Racing Automotive Show in 1963. The chassis was fabricated from laminated three mm thin sheets of marine plywood, giving the cars a powerful monocoque and low weight (the GT was internationally homologated with 475 kg), so they performed effectively in sportscar competitors. Most early Marcos fashions competed in nationwide and worldwide occasions.

11 Amazing Cars from the 2018 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance
AMELIA ISLAND, Florida — The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance has established itself as the premiere East Coast concours in recent years, and miraculously avoids much of the pretension and rarified atmosphere of other high-end collector car events.
This year, as last year, the show was scheduled for Sunday but was moved forward to Saturday on threats of rain later in the weekend. Entrants seemed better prepared this year, meaning virtually all show vehicles were ready on time and attendees were able to enjoy a spectacular field of cars and great weather.
Here are 11 of our favorite cars from the 2018 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.
1963 Ferrari 250/275P The winner of the Best in Show Concours d’Sport award, this Ferrari race car was built to compete in the World Prototype Championship in 1963. Originally fitted with a mid-mounted 3.0-liter V-12, this car was a factory racer and the overall winner at the ’63 ADAC Nurburgring 1000 Kilometer race with John Surtees and Willy Mairesse driving, then won the 1964 12 Hours of Sebring outright, then fitted with an uprated 3.3-liter V-12 for the new racing season. Ferrari importer Luigi Chinetti would then campaign the car under his North American Racing Team (N.A.R.T), which was the basis for the class this car was entered in.
1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 “Daytona shooting brake”
Said to be the 805th 365 GTB/4 built, this Daytona was modified in-period on commission from Luigi Chinetti Jr., son of the well-known U.S. importer. Built by Panther Westwinds in Surrey, England, the Daytona was given wagon-like coachwork but remained a two-door vehicle, this style often referred to as a “shooting brake” in England. The rear cargo area has gullwing-style glass that gives access to the space, instead of the traditional tailgate.
1963 Chevrolet Corvette convertible
The original owner of this Aztec Gold, fuel-injected Corvette convertible was a Pan American pilot who saw an identical car being used in a Pan Am advertisement. Infatuated, he bought the exact same car from a California dealership and kept it the remainder of his working career, giving it to his son when he was too old to drive it. The current owner later bought it from the son, primarily because it reminded him of an identical car that was known to be among the quickest cars on the street in his native ‘60s Brooklyn, New York.
1984 Chevrolet Corvette GTP
Originally built and raced by Hendrick Motorsports (where the car still lives), this mid-engined “Corvette” is a purpose-built, tube-frame racer designed to compete in period IMSA races while developing GM’s period 90-degree V-6 engine. The car debuted in the 1985 season, competing in eight events and taking four pole positions and a win at Road Atlanta, the first ever IMSA win for a Corvette. The car is especially interesting as we look forward to a new mid-engine Corvette road car.
1976 Porsche 935/76
This car, chassis 935-001 is one of the most famous Porsche 911 race cars ever built. A Porsche factory team car, it raced and won the ’76 6-hours of Watkins Glen race driven by works drivers, Rolf Stommelen and Manfred Schurti. This car ushered in the era of high-powered, turbocharged Porsche race cars, its 3.0-liter flat-six engine producing 510 horsepower. The car is currently owned by Jerry Seinfeld and won an award for best restoration at Amelia Island this year.
1985 Lancia Delta S4
Anyone familiar with Group B rally racing will instantly recognize this Martini-themed Lancia works racer. The S4 was an evolution of the brand’s rally-dominating Delta Integrale, taken to the next level thanks to the wild regulations of the Group B class. With all-wheel drive and a both turbocharged and supercharged 1.8-liter twin-cam Lampredi-designed engine, the result was 500 horsepower and five race victories before the class was disbanded for safety concerns in 1986. Lancia built 200 street (or “stradale) versions to homologate this rally rocket.
1967 MGC-GTS
One of just two factory-built lightweight MGC race cars, this car (known as “Mable”) was campaigned from 1967 to 1969. It was painted British Racing Green for its first race at the ’67 Targa Florio and originally ran with 2.0-liter MGB four-cylinder engine. Later, it received a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder Austin engine as fitted to the new MGC cars and won first in class at the ’68 12 Hours of Sebring.
1964 Alpine M64 Le Mans Prototype
By the 1960s, Alpine was the factory racing arm of Renault and this car, an M64, competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, winning its class. It also won the Index of Thermal Efficiency in the same year, completing 2,436 miles during the race at an average speed of 101 mph and an average efficiency of 21 mpg. Pretty impressive! It later won its class at the 12 Hours of Reims in 1964 and later became a test bed for the new M65 before being stashed away for nearly five decades. This was the 1-liter, four-cylinder racer’s first appearance since then.
1994 Penske-Mercedes PC-23
This PC-23, chassis number 4, was used primarily as a test car for the then-new Mercedes 500i engine, which was designed, developed, and manufactured in just half a year to win the Indy 500. This chassis was the first to receive the 1024-hp development engine and it was tested extensively by Emerson Fittipaldi and Al Unser Jr., the latter of which would go on to win the race. The victory gave Mercedes-Benz its first win at the Indy 500 since 1915, but the celebration was short lived as the engine was banned from competition soon after.
1968 Jeep Wrangler
This custom Jeep hunting vehicle is a replica of those famously used by the Kleberg family and friends on the King Ranch in Texas for hunting quail. Famous guests using the vehicles included Bing Crosby and Trader Vic’s founder Victor Bergeron. Among the custom touches include leather-lined hunting rifle holsters mounted on each front fender and elevated rear seating.
1968 Shelby Lonestar
This GT-40-based sports car had a mid-mounted Ford V-8 engine and was designed to be a more modern version of the Cobra sports and race car—a replacement for the Cobra 427, if you will. Internally called the Cobra III, Shelby had already sold rights to the Cobra name and planned to introduce the car as the Shelby Lonestar as an homage to his home state of Texas. Ultimately the project was scrapped, helped along by more aggressive new safety regulations that hit the late ‘60s U.S. automotive industry. What might have been?

Documentary: The History of the MGB
Documentary: The History of the MGB
Tumblr media
This documentary about the history of the MGB, and to a lesser extent the history of MG as a whole, covers the development of one of the most famous sports cars in the world.
The MGB was a little unusual when it was first released in 1963, unibody cars were still relatively uncommon with many manufacturers still using body-on-frame construction.
If anything the MGB unibody was over-engineered and…
