Front and back of this Apotheosis of Franklin and Washington and a very nice Lady of the Lake quilt, ca. 1855. 72" x 84" This is an important piece of Americana (via Great Britain). The back is various pieces of The Apotheosis of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. Printed between 1785 and 1800 in Great Britain marking the end of the American Revolution. #Americana #revolutionarywartextile #18thcenturytextiles #georgewashington #benjaminfranklin #apotheosisofbejaminfranklinandgeorgewashington #americanquilt #18thcenturyquilt #folkart #raretextiles @iowacityart (at Iowa City Art & Antiques) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaThjhWs3UA/?utm_medium=tumblr

Perhaps the only time I will show the back of a quilt first! This is an important piece of Americana (via Great Britain). The back is various pieces of The Apotheosis of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. Printed between 1785 and 1800 in Great Britain marking the end of the American Revolution. So many amazing images. George Washington being pulled by leopards is probably my favorite. This rare textile is the backing of a Lady in the Lake (?) quilt from the 1850 - a stunning piece in it own right. It measures 72" x 84". I've not had time to decide what to do with this. Damn! #Americana #revolutionarywartextile #18thcenturytextiles #georgewashington #benjaminfranklin #apotheosisofbejaminfranklinandgeorgewashington #americanquilt #18thcenturyquilt #folkart #raretextiles @iowacityart (at Iowa City Art & Antiques) https://www.instagram.com/p/CaTPaK_sI5z/?utm_medium=tumblr
