#18Visions' "Obsession" album randomly jumped on my player today at the gym. It's weird when music feels like a time machine, immersing you so deep in the past and drowning you in distant memories. 10 years ago this month I signed my first contract with this band, and we had so much excitement for the future. However, I got so lost in my anger and insecurities that I eventually burned all our dreams down. Eighteen Visions sign to Rise Records and Release Video for "Oath"

Eighteen Visions are back and they signed to Rise Records with a newly formed lineup and some brutal production. Joining James, Keith, and Trevor, is one of our favorites in all of hardcore, Josh James of Stick To Your Guns and Formerly of Evergreen Terrace and Casey Jones. He to me signals the seriousness of the rest of the band. Josh tends to be brought in and gives an element that always seems to be what that band is missing.

I am stoked to hear the rest of the record and am down as fuck with this new video for "Oath". 18V and crew enlisted Mick Kenney to produce the record and one of the songs "Live Again" has been confirmed to be written about their friend and a member of 18 Visions Mick Morris who passed away from a heart condition in 2013. The money is definitely still on the table baby and I think Mick would love this new tune. Check out the video below.

My Father, A Dark Shadow In My Subconscious

It becomes necessary to give contextual information when a dream is as personal as this one. I don’t like my dad. He is a deadbeat. I contribute most/any of the emotional problems I experience to him and the relationship I watched him have with my mother. I haven’t spoken to him in a few years, but I think about him often. I envision the relationship that I wished we would have had in day dreams every few days or so. It is something that weighs on me from time to time.

I dreamt last night of the day I spent with my brother, Simon. We had brunch with my mom and went thrifting for frames. Instead of my Simon in the dream it was my father.* The most bizarre and troubling part of the dream was the inner conflict that I was experiencing. The inner conflict being that my father hadn’t seen any of the work that I had done within the past few years and that I planned to show him for some reason that I cannot recollect. I remember standing in my room during the dream staring at the oriental rug and thinking about how betrayed I’d always felt by him. I thought about all the things I had done to keep him out of my life and that nothing had changed and that things like that typically don’t ever change. I cried a little, and went to the bathroom. I sat in the bathroom and wondered how he had gotten in my house. I wondered how he had weaseled his way back into my life. Nothing made sense and everything was so incredibly frustrating. He was always very manipulative in that way. It terrified me, not in the way that had me waking up covered in sweat, but terrified in the way that I never thought anyone would get into my house, dreams, or life without my permission. And so I never showed him the art and the dream ended in a sort of haze.

*This is an interesting parallel and switch, because I have always seen my brother as more of a father figure than I ever saw my dad. While at brunch we made a couple jokes about how much we didn’t like our dad’s, then later in the evening during dinner we also spoke about how we wished someone like Nicholas Cage from the movie Joe would have been there for us as a father figure.
