SPHERICAL SHAPE

Depth:

The morning session has been unexpectedly deep. It felt like a ‘power meditation’. Not only did I enter a depth where I was certain that mind’s self generated images didn’t have a hold on me, but also I remained at this depth all through those 14 minutes.

After the session, I felt like I had covered a lot of meditation ground. In reality, I had remained at a fantastic depth of mind uninterruptedly. And for the meditating attention to not have to face a mind generated interruption does feel like a decent depth of concentration.

The nightly session was just as deep as the morning. However, we are now talking about 54 minutes of uninterrupted and image free depths! It is more a case of being free from the hold of imagery rather than it being image free. It is a blessing to have an unlit yet thick Peace occupying your attention for 54 minutes. It is better than being captive audience to imagery even if has a distinct feel of Peace.

Also, I can’t quite say that the nightly session was completely unlit. Right at the beginning of the session, my inner gaze had undergone a shift. My attention seems to love motion. I may have been with the surfaces of my mind for many lives. That’s why when my attention and inner gaze undergoes a shift, it feels like a first.

The novelty factor of my gaze shifting is still strong. Also, for the gaze to shift just enough to find the right focal length from the point between the eye brows feels like a blessing. For a brief moment during last night’s meditation, I witnessed the spiritual eye.

Having had no such experience before, I can’t confirm just yet. Right now, I can only explain the blessed brief moment via Paramahansa Yogananda’s writings. I saw a dimly lit spherical shape against a dark background. I have more experience of the dark background than the spherical shape I witnessed last night.

The dark background is what my mind sullies with imagery, out of habit. The dark background is Peaceful. It is distilled Peace of the unlit type. It is a positive silence. It is not the negative silence one achieves by taking a break from the electronic screen while the mind keeps up its image production.

Movement of mind is not detected in the Peaceful dark spaces in the mind. Thicker the Peace, less imagery detected. Arriving at a thick Peace regularly does lead to a need for further concentration of such Peace. It feels like a natural grown desire, to thicken one’s Peace some more.

Gurudev Paramahansa Yogananda says that Peace is the altar where Bliss makes an appearance. I have conveniently assumed that Bliss, God, Joy and Divinity are synonyms. The assumption provides convenience of meditation operation. He also says that among the rites of passage to higher fields is holding one’s attention on the spiritual eye.

He says that it requires much Peace and stillness of mind to behold the spiritual eye. I beg and pray for such a Peace.
