Van Cleef & Arpels Creates a Coffee-Table Book Worth Coveting
The iconic brand worn by stars including Margot Robbie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Caitríona Balfe has released an artful book that highlights some of the house's most fruitful design years.

For jewelry aficionados, phrases like “Zip necklace” and “mystery-set stones” should instantly evoke thoughts of one heritage-steeped house: Van Cleef & Arpels. These are just two of the iconic design elements from the legendary brand that opened its first boutique on Paris’s Place Vendôme in 1906. Now a new book takes a comprehensive look at its high-wattage designs, created during the years when everyone from Hollywood icons Carole Lombard and Marlene Dietrich to Wallis Simpson, a.k.a. the Duchess of Windsor, ranked high among the house’s most ardent fans and devoted collectors.
The Van Cleef & Arpels Collection (1906-1953) is an impressive coffee-table book that explores the dazzling designs that emerged from the jeweler in the first half of the 20th century. Almost 700 jewelry and watch images are included alongside 200 archival documents, from 1920s timepieces and bracelets infused with Art Deco styling to early advertisements and mid-century jewels that continue to enjoy high-wattage attention to this day. For proof of the latter, look no further than Margot Robbie wearing a version of the house’s iconic Zip necklace to the 2015 Academy Awards, while at the 2022 Oscars, Caitríona Balfe wore a 1957 diamond necklace that highlights Van Cleef & Arpels’ bow and ribbon motifs. And at December’s Fashion Awards in London, Gwyneth Paltrow paired her crimson Valentino gown and feathered coat with ruby and diamond Van Cleef & Arpels jewels from the 1960s.

The 678-page book offers a deep dive into these and other pieces that continue to be sought after, sometimes a full century after their debut. The sapphire and diamond Zip necklace worn by Robbie, for example, takes its cue from a design that got its start in the 1930s, when the ultra-stylish Simpson suggested to then-creative director Renée Puissant the creation of a necklace that both looked and could operate as a zipper might. The technical mastery required for a jewel that could fully function like a zipper took a full 12 years, however, with the first Zip necklace debuting in 1951. (Viewers of the 1930s-set The King’s Speech, which includes actress Eve Best as Simpson, will see that character wearing an all-diamond Van Cleef & Arpels Zip necklace elegantly draped down her back, creating one of the 2010 film’s most stylish — if anachronistic — moments.)

In addition to its celebrated Ballerina clips, jeweled timepieces and other high-wattage designs, the book also pays ample attention to the house’s Mystery Set collection, named for the intricate technique that eliminates the sight of any prongs on the design’s surface. Patented by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1933, mystery-set designs quickly gained popularity among its well-heeled clientele, even as the house’s artisans continued to refine and evolve the technique so it could be employed in pieces that felt more three-dimensional. A 1936 ruby and diamond Fleur brooch, released soon after a second patent was acquired that same year, ultimately was deemed worthy of the book’s cover.

“This brooch was created [in 1936 and] is thus one of the first examples of this groundbreaking development,” explains Nicolas Bos, president and CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels. “As an example of the way in which technical evolutions exert an influence on style, this piece — one of the oldest Mystery Set creations in our possession — perfectly expresses the very essence of this book. It was acquired by the Patrimony department just as we were completing the first volume, so we naturally thought of it for the cover.”
Bos also notes that the book’s compilation has been in the works for five decades, originating in the 1970s and refined over the years as it continued to be deeply researched by the Van Cleef & Arpels Patrimony department, which oversees the house’s heritage and archives. “This patrimonial Collection – today made up of over 2,700 pieces – is representative of Van Cleef & Arpels’ creations in terms of inspirations, materials, and techniques,” Bos says. “It is for that reason that this work takes the form of a catalogue raisonné: the most comprehensive possible compendium of an artist’s work.”

Divided into a trio of hefty chapters, the book kicks off with “The Creative Boom (1906 – 1925),” which highlights a variety of Art Deco-influenced designs, several of which were showcased in a 1925 Paris exhibition of decorative and industrial arts. Chapters two and three explore “A Unique Identity (1926 – 1937),” which explores the development of the singular Van Cleef & Arpels aesthetic, and “From Paris to New York (1938 – 1953),” which highlights the house’s expansion into the U.S., including its inclusion in the New York World’s Fair of 1939. A second volume, which covers the years 1954 through 2000, is expected to be released in 2026, Bos adds.

Throughout, the book is lavish in its inclusion of archive images and newly photographed jewels, the latter part of a parallel project to create a comprehensive look at Van Cleef & Arpels’ history through its designs. “We wanted the illustrative record to be exhaustive: optimal picture quality, harmonious visual images, pieces photographed from different angles,” Bos says. “Visually, we have treated this book like the catalogue of an exhibition, in which the jewelry creations and archive material complement one another.”

Ultimately Bos says he believes both this book and its subsequent sister volume will further a key Van Cleef & Arpels goal. “Through these initiatives, we hope to show that jewelry is not an isolated art,” he notes. “It is in constant interaction with other disciplines, which inspire it and which it influences in return. As such, it forms part of the great history of the arts.”

Affordable Diamond Jewelry: How to Get the Most for Your Money
Introduction
When it comes to diamond jewelry, many people believe that high quality always comes with a high price tag. However, with a bit of knowledge and savvy shopping, you can find stunning diamond pieces without breaking the bank. Whether you're in the market for a dazzling ring or looking for cheap gold earrings that add a touch of elegance, this guide will help you get the most for your money when shopping for affordable diamond jewelry.
Understanding the 4 Cs: Your Guide to Value
1. Cut The cut of a diamond plays the most significant role in its brilliance and sparkle. Even on a budget, prioritize a well-cut diamond, as this can make a stone appear more brilliant than it might otherwise. Opting for a “good” or “very good” cut grade can often provide the best balance between quality and cost.
2. Color Diamonds are graded on a color scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown). For those looking for affordability, consider diamonds in the near-colorless range (G-H-I). These diamonds offer great value, as they appear nearly as colorless as more expensive grades but at a fraction of the price.
3. Clarity Clarity refers to the presence of internal or external flaws, known as inclusions and blemishes. While higher clarity grades are more expensive, choosing a diamond with a clarity grade of VS2 (Very Slightly Included) or SI1 (Slightly Included) can offer a beautiful diamond with imperfections that are often invisible to the naked eye.
4. Carat Carat weight measures the size of the diamond. To maximize value, consider diamonds just below popular carat weights (e.g., 0.9 carats instead of 1.0). These slight differences in weight can result in significant savings without a noticeable difference in appearance.
Affordable Options: Lab-Grown Diamonds and Diamond Alternatives
Lab-Grown Diamonds Lab-grown diamonds are chemically identical to natural diamonds but come at a much lower price. These diamonds are an excellent choice for budget-conscious shoppers who want the beauty and durability of a real diamond without the premium cost.
Diamond Alternatives Moissanite, white sapphires, and cubic zirconia are popular diamond alternatives that offer brilliance and sparkle at a fraction of the cost. These stones are perfect for those looking for affordable diamond jewelry that still delivers on style.
Choosing Cheap Gold Earrings with Diamonds
Balancing Budget and Style When shopping for cheap gold earrings, consider pairing smaller diamonds with a simple gold setting. Smaller diamonds can be more affordable, and a classic gold setting will complement the stones beautifully without adding too much to the cost.
Gold Purity The purity of gold is measured in karats, with 24-karat gold being pure gold. However, pure gold is soft and can be easily scratched, making 14-karat or 18-karat gold a more durable and affordable choice for earrings.
Style and Design Opting for minimalist designs, such as stud earrings or small hoops, can help keep costs down while still offering timeless elegance. Consider settings that use pavé or halo designs, which can enhance the appearance of the diamonds without requiring large stones.
Smart Shopping Tips
Shop Around Don’t settle for the first piece you see. Compare prices across multiple retailers, both online and in-store, to find the best deals on affordable diamond jewelry and cheap gold earrings.
Look for Sales and Discounts Many jewelers offer sales during holidays or special promotions throughout the year. Keep an eye out for discounts and clearance sales where you can find high-quality pieces at reduced prices.
Consider Pre-Owned Jewelry Vintage or pre-owned jewelry can offer significant savings. Look for reputable jewelers who certify pre-owned pieces to ensure you’re getting authentic diamonds and gold.
Conclusion
Finding affordable diamond jewelry, including cheap gold earrings, is entirely possible with the right approach. By understanding the 4 Cs, considering lab-grown diamonds or alternatives, and shopping smart, you can find beautiful pieces that suit both your style and budget. Remember, it’s not just about spending less—it's about getting the most value for your money.

The Allure of Blue Sapphire: A Gemstone of Elegance and Mystique
Blue sapphire, a gemstone that has captivated humanity for centuries, stands as a symbol of elegance, power, and mystique. This exquisite gem, with its deep, enchanting hues, is not just a visual delight but also a treasure trove of history and significance. Its allure transcends cultures and eras, making it a timeless favorite in the world of gems.
Historical Significance of Blue Sapphire
The blue sapphire's history is as rich as its color. Historically, this gemstone has been revered by various civilizations. In ancient Greece and Rome, royalty and clergy believed that blue sapphires protected their owners from envy and harm. These stones were considered a divine gift, often associated with celestial powers and wisdom. Medieval kings wore sapphires believing they would protect them from harm and envy.
In Hindu mythology, blue sapphire is associated with the planet Saturn and is known as Neelam. It is believed to bring prosperity, protection, and spiritual enlightenment to those who wear it. The gem's deep blue color is thought to reflect the vastness of the universe, symbolizing the wearer’s connection to the cosmic forces.
The Unique Qualities of Blue Sapphire
What sets the blue sapphire apart from other gemstones is its unique combination of color, clarity, and hardness. The most prized blue sapphires exhibit a rich, velvety blue to violet-blue hue. These colors are the result of trace amounts of titanium and iron within the crystal structure of the corundum mineral.
Blue sapphires are also incredibly durable, ranking 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness, just below diamonds. This makes them an excellent choice for everyday wear, especially in engagement rings and other jewelry pieces that are subject to daily use.
The clarity of a blue sapphire is another significant aspect. While inclusions (internal flaws) are common, the most valuable sapphires are those with minimal inclusions that do not detract from their overall beauty. These inclusions can sometimes create unique patterns, known as "silk," which can enhance the gem's visual appeal.
Blue Sapphire in Modern Jewelry
In contemporary jewelry, blue sapphire continues to be a favorite among designers and wearers alike. Its versatility allows it to be fashioned into various styles, from classic solitaires to intricate vintage-inspired pieces. Blue sapphires are often paired with diamonds to create a stunning contrast, highlighting the depth of the sapphire’s color against the brilliance of the diamonds.
One of the most famous blue sapphire pieces is the engagement ring of Princess Diana, now worn by Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. This iconic ring features a 12-carat oval blue sapphire surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds, set in 18-karat white gold. The ring's timeless elegance and royal association have only heightened the blue sapphire's popularity in engagement rings and fine jewelry.
The Symbolism and Beliefs Surrounding Blue Sapphire
Beyond its physical beauty, blue sapphire carries a wealth of symbolism and beliefs. It is often associated with qualities such as loyalty, wisdom, and nobility. Many believe that wearing a blue sapphire can bring mental clarity, focus, and self-discipline. It is also thought to have protective properties, shielding the wearer from negative energies and enhancing spiritual insight.
In astrology, blue sapphire is considered a powerful stone for those born under the sign of Capricorn. It is believed to balance the effects of Saturn, bringing stability, prosperity, and mental peace to the wearer. However, it is advised to wear this gemstone only after consultation with an experienced astrologer, as its potent energy can have varying effects based on individual horoscopes.
Choosing the Right Blue Sapphire
When selecting a blue sapphire, several factors should be considered to ensure the best quality and value. The gemstone’s color, clarity, cut, and carat weight all play crucial roles in determining its worth.
Color: The most valuable blue sapphires exhibit a deep, vivid blue with a slight violet hue. Stones that are too dark or too light are generally less prized.
Clarity: While inclusions are common, those that affect the stone's transparency or create undesirable patterns can reduce its value. Look for sapphires with minimal inclusions that do not detract from their overall beauty.
Cut: The cut of a blue sapphire can greatly influence its brilliance and overall appearance. Well-cut sapphires will reflect light evenly across the surface, enhancing their color and luster.
Carat Weight: Like all gemstones, larger blue sapphires are rarer and therefore more valuable. However, a balance between size and quality should be considered to find the best stone within your budget.
Conclusion
The blue sapphire remains an enduring symbol of elegance, power, and mystique. Its rich history, unique qualities, and timeless appeal make it a cherished gemstone in various cultures and a favorite in modern jewelry design. Whether chosen for its beauty, symbolism, or believed protective properties, the blue sapphire continues to enchant and captivate those who wear it, standing as a testament to its enduring allure.

If you’re worried about finding something that captures your love, then here are some of the best gifts to gift your future bride.
Diamond tennis bracelet
Diamonds are classy and flashy and make the ideal gift. If you’re looking for something elegant and sophisticated, opt for a glittering 18-karat gold tennis bracelet with round and marquise diamonds that is simply stunning.
You can also choose a solitaire lab grown diamond in Las Vegas, NV that is eco-friendly and quite affordable even at larger carat sizes. These bracelets are highly versatile and perfectly pair with a range of cuts, settings, and styles to suit your needs.

Just like a pre-owned Rolex in Las Vegas, NV, this bracelet is glossy and works well with any outfit. It has a place where you can engrave your initials, dates, a quote, or even a phrase. Your pearl earrings also pair beautifully with diamonds or even rubies and sapphires and can offer you a lovely shine and shimmer along with a pop of color.
In Conclusion
When it comes to choosing pieces always pick durable metals like yellow gold or platinum that will last you for a long time. You can also choose gemstones like diamonds, sapphires, and rubies that are tough and resilient and can easily weather daily wear and tear.

How to Select the Perfect Pair of Gold Earrings for Her?
Gold earrings are not merely jewelry pieces but expressions of style, personality, and timeless elegance. Whether you're shopping for a special occasion or aiming to surprise her with a thoughtful gift, the perfect pair of women's gold earrings can elevate any ensemble and make a lasting impression. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the key factors to consider when selecting the ideal gold earrings for her, ensuring that your choice reflects her unique taste and enhances her beauty.
Understanding Her Style:
The first step in choosing the perfect pair of gold earrings is understanding her style preferences. Take note of the jewelry she currently wears – does she lean towards classic, understated pieces, or does she gravitate towards bold, statement jewelry? Observing her choices in clothing and accessories can provide valuable insights into her aesthetic preferences.
Consider the Occasion:
The occasion for which you select the gold earrings plays a crucial role in the decision-making process. Different events call for different styles of earrings. Opt for sophisticated and classic designs like gold studs or hoops for formal occasions, such as weddings or black-tie events. On the other hand, more casual and everyday events allow for a broader range of choices, including playful dangles or trendy geometric shapes.
Understanding Gold Types:
Gold comes in various types, each with its unique characteristics and properties. The most common types are yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold. Yellow gold is the classic choice, exuding warmth and timeless appeal. White gold, on the other hand, offers a modern and sleek aesthetic, making it a popular choice for contemporary styles. Rose gold, with its pinkish hue, adds a touch of romance and femininity to the mix. Consider her skin tone and preferences when choosing the gold type that suits her best.
Assessing Earring Types:
Gold earrings come in many styles, from studs to hoops, drops to chandeliers. Each earring type complements different face shapes and personal styles. Studs are versatile and suitable for everyday wear, while hoops add a touch of flair and sophistication. Drop earrings and chandeliers are ideal for formal occasions, providing an elegant and captivating look. Assess her lifestyle and the types of earrings she currently owns to make an informed decision about the style that will resonate with her.
Matching with Face Shape:
Another important consideration when selecting gold earrings for women is her face shape. Different earring styles can enhance or balance various face shapes. For instance, if she has a round face, elongated earrings like drops or dangles can create the illusion of length. Those with an oval face shape are fortunate, as they can pull off almost any earring style. Angular earrings, such as hoops or geometric designs, can complement a square face, while softer styles, like studs or curves, suit heart-shaped faces.
Gemstone or No Gemstone:
Gemstones to gold earrings can introduce color, texture, and a personalized touch. Consider her favorite gemstones, birthstones, or the colors that dominate her wardrobe when deciding whether to opt for plain gold or embellished earrings. Diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, and pearls are popular choices that add luxury and individuality to the earrings.
Quality Matters:
When it comes to gold jewelry, quality is paramount. Consider factors such as the karat of the gold, with 24 karats being pure gold and lower karats mixed with other metals for durability. While 24-karat gold is soft and easily scratched, 18-karat and 14-karat gold is more durable and suitable for everyday wear. Additionally, check for proper certification and ensure that the earrings meet the necessary standards for quality and authenticity.
Consider Her Comfort:
Comfort is a crucial factor when selecting earrings. Pay attention to the closure mechanism – whether it's a post, hook, or clip-on – and choose a style she finds comfortable wearing for extended periods. Some women prefer lightweight and subtle earrings, while others enjoy the weight and presence of statement pieces. Understanding her comfort preferences ensures that the earrings look good and are enjoyable to wear.
Personalization and Customization:
To make the gift truly special, consider personalized or customized gold earrings. Engraving initials, a particular date, or a meaningful symbol adds a sentimental touch that elevates the earrings from mere accessories to cherished keepsakes. Many jewelers offer customization services, allowing you to create a one-of-a-kind piece that reflects her personality and the uniqueness of your relationship.
Setting a Budget:
Before diving into the world of earrings for women gold, setting a realistic budget is essential. Gold prices can vary based on factors like karat, design intricacy, and the presence of gemstones. Establishing a budget narrows down the options and ensures that you find a beautiful pair of earrings within your financial comfort zone.
Seeking Professional Advice:
If you need more clarification about which gold earrings to choose, seek professional advice from a reputable jeweler. Experienced jewelers can provide insights into the latest trends, help you navigate the vast array of options, and guide you toward the perfect pair that aligns with your style and preferences.
Conclusion:
Selecting the perfect pair of gold earrings for her is thoughtful and meaningful. By considering her style, occasion, gold type, earring style, face shape, gemstone preferences, and comfort, you can narrow down the options to find a pair that not only enhances her beauty but also holds sentimental value. Remember, the attention to detail and the personal touch transforms a pair of gold earrings into a cherished gift that she'll treasure for years to come. So, embark on this journey with care, and let the gilded grace of gold earrings speak volumes about your thoughtfulness and love.

Patek Philippe Developed Around 13.43 Carat Diamond Could Fetch Up to $2 Million USD at Auction
A one-of-a-kind, bespoke Patek Philippe watches is set to hit the auction block in early October. Heading to the Christies‘ Watches Online: The Dubai Edit, the watch is an exceptional piece that was created by Patek in 1990 for a private client. The watch developed around 13.43 carat portrait-cut diamond as the dial cover which is in place of the traditional sapphire crystal. This watch is expected to be the only watch to feature the portrait-cut diamond, used to enhance and protect the dial.
The watch itself uses the third largest portrait-cut diamond known to ever exist. In 1990, Patek enlisthed famed Genevan case maker Atelier Réunis to design the watch casing around the diamond. The result of the design gives the watch an asymmetric aesthetic as it features an 18-karat white gold case as well as a bespoke Stern Frères dial in blue gold. Jewelry historian Diana Scarisbrick said, “the reflections of the facets illuminate the portrait, the highly polished limpid surface lets the subject shine through with much more brilliance than crystal and also draws the eye towards it. Only the clearest stones could achieve this magical effect.”
The asymmetry continues in the mix of 18-karat white gold baton indexes on the dot hour markers. Compete with an integrated mesh bracelet in white gold, Patek assembled the wrist piece and gave the watch a unique reference number – 3834/1. On the caseback, the number is engraved along with the weight of the diamond. The watch will also come with a digital copy of the certificate of origin which dates back to January 18, 1994 and signed by Philippe Stern, noting that the watch is a “Pièce Unique.” Remy Julia, Christie’s head of watches in the Middle East, India, and Africa said, “It is extremely rare for Patek Philippe to make special orders, even for its most important clients. It follows that the appearance of a bespoke Patek Philippe at auction is an event, and for a bespoke Patek Philippe to be adorned with a portrait diamond, probably the third largest known, is a truly rare sight.”
The Patek Philippe Ref. 3834/1 is available for bidding at Christies’ Watches Online: The Dubai Edition from October 9 to 19.

French 1900 Edwardian Tortoise Parasol Handle in 18kt Yellow Gold Carved Citrine
Edwardian parasol handle made in France. Very beautiful and elegant piece, created in Paris France during the Edwardian and Belle Epoque periods, back in the 1900. This fabulous parasol handle has been designed with French neo-classic patterns in the style of Louis XVI. Crafted by assembling pieces made up in 18 karats yellow gold, carved citrine and amber color faux tortoise. The baton is fitted with a screw to attach to any parasol or cane. The round gold parts on top are made with multiple leaf motifs, bows, tassels and floral clusters, typical from the Belle Epoque period. Gemstones: The top part is mounted, with 1 cylinder cabochon cut of natural translucent citrine quartz of about 120 carats. Birthstone: Citrine, for the month of November. Weight: 66.95 Grams, (42.91 Dwt). Measurements: 248 mm by 20 mm (9.75 x 0.79 Inches). Hallmarks: Both gold parts are stamped with French marks; the head of the eagle for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold and the maker's maitre mark inside a lozange cartouche. Edwardian era, like the Georgian and Victorian eras before it, derives its name from the reign of the English King, Edward VII (1901-1910). Edwardian jewelry is known for representing femininity while incorporating a lot of the color white. Think diamonds, pearls and white metals like platinum and white gold. Diamonds often had an Old Mine or European cut and sapphires were a popular choice for a pop of color. They tended to be made from platinum and diamonds – the more, the merrier – and used fashionable, intricate techniques such as filigree and millegrain. Edwardian rings are works of art and best worn alone or alongside a simple wedding band. Millegraining, a new decorative technique made possible by the use of platinum, is featured often on Edwardian jewelry. Its border of delicate balls and ridges surrounding a gemstone or on the knife sharp edges of a design served to give jewelry a softer, lighter look. Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry pouch. Condition: The overall condition of this piece is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. All parts are secured in the settings. This parasol handle has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.

#bluemonday picture of an Art Nouveau pendant (ca. 1909) by Lluís Masriera i Rosés (Barcelona, 1872-1958).
This exquisite pendant will be shown during the @brafaartfair by @epoquefinejewels.
This is an important pendant depicting a winged maiden with white enamel flowers in her hair, holding a white pearl. She is wearing a long enamel dress with floral engraving and rose cut diamond highlights.
Her wings are decorated with white and pink ‘plique-à-jour’ enamel, on a pavé-set rose cut diamond background framed by calibré-cut sapphires, all mounted in 18 karat gold.
With this beautiful pendant, I think we will survive blue monday without any problems!
BRAFA Art Fair is embracing the Art Nouveau theme this year, and Art Nouveau aficionados are particularly invited!

The Engagement Ring of Princess Diana
Princess Diana's Engagement Ring, which is sometimes dubbed the "Commoner's Sapphire" was created in 1981 as the engagement ring of Princess Diana to Prince Charles, and was later used by her son, William, for his then-fiancé Kate. The set is 14 diamonds set around a 12-karat Blue Oval Sapphire in a 18-karat white gold set. It was inspired by a brooch once belonging to Queen Victoria, but was also featured in Girrard's jewelry collection, making it available for anyone to purchase.
Prince Harry originally selected the Ring as a memento after the 1997 death of his mother, but eventually swapped it for William's memento, as he wanted the ring to "one day be sat on the throne of England."

Welcome to my new series, Fiancé Fridays, where I will be reporting on the engagement stories of different royal couples.
This week, I am starting with one of the most famous and storied engagements – that of Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
Lady Diana Spencer first met her future husband, Prince Charles, in 1977 while Charles dated her eldest sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale. Their journey together didn’t begin until 1980, however. He began seriously courting Diana and eventually proposed on February 3, 1981 in Balmoral. They reportedly only met 12 times before their engagement. Diana accepted immediately but they chose to keep their engagement short for several weeks.
Diana chose her own engagement ring, a 12-carat oval blue sapphire set in 18-karat white gold surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds. The ring was created by then-crown jeweler Garrard. It was a unique choice – at the time the ring was in Garrard’s jewelry collection and available for anyone in the general public to purchase. At the time, the ring was valued at £30,000.
Diana and Charles publicly announced their engagement on February 21, 1981, involving a press photo call and a nationally televised interview. It was Diana’s entrance into a very public life she would lead until her death. The television special was based around video tape interviews made by Diana's speech coach, Peter Settelen, in the early 1990s. Marital conflict between the couple can be seen during this interview – when asked if they were in love, Diana responded “of course” whereas Charles responded “Whatever ‘in love’ means”, much to Diana’s chagrin.
The Earl of Snowden photographed the couple for the February 1981 issue of Vogue to commemorate the engagement.
Following their announcement, Diana left her job as a kindergarten assistant teacher and moved in to Clarence House, where the Queen Mother was living. Soon after, she relocated to Buckingham Palace where she remained until her wedding to Prince Charles, on July 29 1981.

Jackson Hole High School sweethearts and jewelers Jeter and Jan Case have a lot to celebrate this Christmas: they have owned J.C. Jewelers for more than 30 years. After growing up in Jackson Hole, Jeter and Jan started a custom jewelry store that eventually became located in one of the town’s iconic log cabins.
After putting their two boys through college the couple is fully invested in their business and they love working together. Jan manages the store and is a certified gemologist appraiser while Jeter designs and creates amazing pieces of wearable art. In addition to being handcrafted at their studio, the jewelry is designed to hold up to daily lifestyles and last for generations.
Custom Engagement Rings
The pure custom designs that are created in the JC Jewelers studio can range not only from engagement and fine jewelry but also to work outside the conventional pieces of custom jewelry.
18-Karat Rose Gold with a One-of-a-kind 7- Carat Blue Topaz
At one point a client commissioned Jeter to create a platinum and diamond Cinderella ring and she was blown away when it was presented in a glass slipper. On other occasions a client asked Jeter to build a custom wall mount for an Olympic torch while another requested a working bear trap pendant with a diamond. “Custom jewelry is very personal and rewarding to the clients as well as Jeter when he is able to take their ideas for a piece and make them tangible,” says Jan Case.
4.5-carat Sapphire with Baguette Diamonds
One of the most popular collections of work that they began making when they first started JC Jewelers is the Teton Collection. It is a series of mountain peak jewelry fashioned after the Teton mountain range that is unique to Jackson Hole. From pendants to earrings, gold to silver, a Teton Collection piece makes Christmas, a birthday or other event special for someone who wants to wear the Tetons wherever they go.
