it sucks so much ass that i can’t use any of my paintings for my portfolio because they’re all fanart :( you might say ‘oh jey, why don’t you just paint other things?’ very easy answer to that. i don’t want to :) i paint for myself and i don’t want to have to do things i won’t enjoy for the sake of a portfolio

#i’m essentially auditing a painting class this year (situation is a bit more complicated) but basically i’m learning oils #and i’ll hopefully end up with portfolio pieces from that #but at home i paint my little guys i don’t give a shit if the paintings are ‘useless’#it’s sad that fanart is so not valued as like real art that matters. we’re talking about in art history who gets to define art and its value #and like yeah. why is a shitty oil painting i did with no experience or instruction more ‘real art’#than the very technical acrylic paintings i spend dozens of hours on just because of the content? and also medium and size #16x20 oil vs 4x5 acrylic the oil one will Always be valued higher #moral is art world is confusing and arbitrary and annoying and i want to put my own damn paintings in my portfolio #and that i Hate the notion of ‘useless art’ i think that’s so much bullshit. all art is so so important #<]:)

#help me decide!!!!!#idk if context will help but here we go #the first one is the official poster and i would have to buy it for around $20 and its 18x24 #the second one is an amazing graphic someone made that i wanted to print on walgreens bc theyre having a 60% off for posters #but i would have to print it in 16x20 bc thats the only aspect ratio that fits the size #so its definitely a much cheaper option (i think after the discount its $8?)#but im not sure how i feel abt real figures on a poster :/ and i absolutely love the official poster #in conclusion idk!!! pls help

Pricing paintings I haven't even completed is so funny like yeah I imagine the thing that will end up looking like shit will sell for $1,000

#To be fair to myself I have a hard time pricing my own paintings #Though looking at what I've finished in March and the commission that I'm currently working on...#I think it's reasonable to start pricing at $3/sq.inch (because I primarily use liquitex brand heavy body acrylics)#Which is half of what oil paint users charge per square inch #The 16x20 I started on last night I want to make prints for I think. We'll see how good it looks in the end #(And if color shifting and glow in the dark are viable options for said prints)
