"You're still here," Kurogane comments, as he steps into their shared rooms, trying hard for casualness and probably missing by a mile. It's annoying. It's frustrating. He used to be so damn good at pretending he doesn't give a shit.

The mage turns his head away from the breathtaking view outside their window, and tilts his head in question. "Where else would I be?" He says it like he hadn't tripped in his haste to leave earlier, a weak excuse about remembering to speak to the princess falling from his lips.

Kurogane closes the door quietly behind him; makes his way to their little liquor cabinet. "Three to five worlds away, maybe, was what I made a wager on."

That makes Fai turn to face him fully, a frown replacing the serene look that had been gracing his features not a minute ago. "Kuro-sama," he says, and even with all his walls up, even as upset as he is, Kurogane still can pick up the confusion edging into hurt in his voice. "What are you talking about? Why would I- Why would you even think I-"

"You ran away earlier." Kurogane says it bluntly, because he doesn't think he can say it anyway else without sounding desperate.

Fai blinks, and something in him… deflates. It takes him a minute (long, excruciating… unending, Kurogane feels like) before he sighs and says, eyes downcast, "I was startled."

"By some grey hair?"

"By what it means. It'll be another couple more centuries at least, before mine even start to show, Kurorin. You have to understand that seeing yours, even as few as they are, shocked me more than I ever expected."

And okay, maybe Kurogane should have thought of that, of the fact that Fai is older than him, will live longer than him. He, too, would have probably freaked out, had their roles been reversed. "You thought about the day you're going to lose me."

Fai nods. "I did. It terrified me."

"I see." And he does. He still remembers the bone-deep chill of terror when he nearly lost the mage.

He steps away from the cabinet, sans liquor, and wraps his husband in his arms, tucks Fai's blonde head under his chin. "There's still a long way before I croak, you idiot," he says against Fai's hairline. "Don't go killing me off just yet."

Fai nods, and it's… enough, for now.

16/12/2022-Lakeside and home part 2 of 2: Landscape 

I cherished the spectacular and captivating scenes of lingering frost on grass and bramble bush and icy lakes with pleasurable wavy patterns on the ice at Lakeside again at lunch time, looking sensational in the sunlight. There were nice colourful patterns too on beach lake from stones presumably skimmed on the ice. It was another epic and stunning winter walk lately. I enjoyed seeing brown leaves and catkins on the walk too, with the tree out the back shown in the first picture in this photoset with its autumn leaves getting on now and some green still. I enjoyed a beautiful sunset at home tonight. I took the rest of the pictures in this photoset of views on the walk. I hope you all have a nice weekend.
