hhhhh wait I think I realised something. The esp32 has a default clock of like 40MHz so the performance numbers I'm getting from my dsl are probably hamstrung by that. You can max it out at 160MHz on the riscv ones (240MHz on the Xtensa ones). but I can't see how to access the CPU clock peripheral from rust. Goddamit I know how to do this in C/++ you just get the peripheral and call configure how do you do it here. Might have to ask the chatroom. esp-rs is very beta software it has documentation holes.
On the plus side if that's the case my performance numbers might be perfect and I won't have to learn how to write an optimizing compiler just yet.

Note
Do you know the write speed of your work laptops hard drive? Because that could be part of the reason it's slower than your personal.
So I can look at write speed in task manager and it fluctuates all the time, but they look like they're fluctuating within the same range. Like it goes 0 kb/s > 70-80 kb/s > 120 - 135 kb/s > 200/300/400 kb/s > 1.4 mb/s and then repeats. Actually my personal laptop seems to hit 600-700 kb/s more often than the work laptop. You may be able to tell from this answer that this means nothing to me cause idk what write speed means LOL
Let me just list my specs lmao
Personal Laptop
Dell Inspiron 14 5410 (i'm never buying dell again i have had nothing but bad experiences in the last 3 years with multiple laptops lol)
Processor: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11370H @ 3.30GHz 3.00 GHz
Installed RAM: 16 GB
OS: Windows 11 Home (had the issue on Win 10 as well, clean installs were performed, did not fix)
Network Adapter: Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz
Wifi protocol: Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)
Link speed: 58/30 Mbps
Network band and network channel: 5 GHz / 44
Work Laptop
Dell Latitude 5320 (dont let this post fool you this laptop sucks too, i know like a dozen people at work including myself who had to have our "brand new" laptops replaced within a year)
Processor: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1185G7 @ 3.00 GHz 1.80 GHz
Installed RAM: 16 GB
OS: Windows 11 Enterprise
Network Adapter: Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz
Wifi protocol: Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)
Link speed: 1560/1560 mbps (this is the only major difference I can see between the two of them? why is it so much higher?)
Network band and network channel: 5 GHz / 44
It also has a much higher signlat strength in general when I look at it.
---
help a girlie out i did environmental science not IT and i've been barely able to play games or be in discord calls for like two years now and it's painful 😭😭😭😭
A note: I do not have an ethernet connection and currently no way to put one in. I understand that wireless connections are inherently slower but it should be THIS slow if our internet package has up to 300 mbps (iirc)? I am in a room far from the router, but as aforementioned, it's pretty slow even by the router and I would assume all devices would struggle if it was Only the distance that was the problem. I had multiple Dell support people stumped with this laptop before and the wifi card was replaced once already.

oh another apple silicon mac thing
the wifi isn't as good as the 3 spatial stream solution in the x86 15"/16" models (and apparently some of the 13" ones), to a degree that's quite noticeable. AX1200 might have only a slightly lower "the number that they put in the marketing materials sometimes" than AC1300, but that's making up for the lack of a third antenna with a bump in "perfect conditions" per-stream throughput that you'll basically never see. (wifi is complicated.)
of course, this likely only matters if you pay for like 300mb/s internet or better and want to take full advantage of it on wifi (haven't tested but the range should be excellent on this), but it does feel bad to have the typical-use performance of a 2021/2023 model be noticeably worse than that of my 2013 model in any way.
I was rather hoping that Apple would go the other way, jam an exorbitant number of antennas all over the place, and launch the first-ever laptop with a 4x4 wifi solution. do a "live" demo during the M2 Pro announcement video and show a speedtest on wifi that hits 3.5 gigabit with 160MHz channels on wifi 6E. why not? but, no, we have your run-of-the-mill 2x2 solution.
I was going to say maybe all of the apple silicon stuff has the wifi solution built into the SoC so it the number of streams can't be customized per-device, but it seems like no; teardowns list a USI 339S00912 package that I think probably still has a Broadcom chip in it?
edit: oh, interesting; from the linked page earlier:
Client MIMO: Almost all battery powered wireless devices are stuck at 2×2 MIMO for wifi, and this seems unlikely to change anytime soon. The extra power requirements of 4×4 MIMO causing reduced run times is just not worth the tradeoff (yet).
I guess that is fair. still though

While the meaning of the suffix "T" in Xiaomi AX3000T remains undisclosed, we speculate that it could signify the remarkable Turbo performance delivered by its cutting-edge WiFi6 technology. The Xiaomi AX3000T router has a maximum bandwidth capacity of 160MHz, allowing for an impressive dual-band concurrent wireless rate of up to 2976Mbps. Specifically, the 5GHz band boasts a remarkable rate of 2402Mbps, while the 2.4GHz band performs at a commendable 574Mbps. Improved Connectivity The AX3000T router comes with an impressive Xtra Range technology and a remarkable "2+1" 5GHz antenna arrangement. This innovative design considerably boosts signal strength, just like having an extra antenna. It successfully addresses problems such as poor 5G signal penetration through walls and eradicates areas with no signal within households. Hardware The AX3000T router is powered by the cutting-edge MediaTek Filogic 820 platform, which boasts a 1.3GHz dual-core A53 processor, ensuring top-notch performance. The powerful hardware allows smooth performance and stable connectivity for up to 128 devices. It is great for households with a lot of technology. Moreover, the router is equipped with 256MB of RAM, which significantly boosts its overall performance. The AX3000T router boasts four high-speed Ethernet ports, with full-gigabit capacity, for seamless dual WAN and LAN port aggregation. This is an essential tool for households that have multiple broadband connections. By combining a dual-gigabit Ethernet-compatible NAS, users are able to create an incredibly fast 2-gigabit private cloud drive. Dual-port aggregation Dual-port aggregation, also known as link aggregation or port trunking, is a technique used in computer networking to combine multiple physical network ports into a single logical port. This allows for increased bandwidth and redundancy. In dual-port aggregation, two network ports are combined to form a single logical port. This logical port appears as a single high-bandwidth connection to the rest of the network. The two physical ports can be connected to different switches or devices, providing redundancy in case one of the connections fails. Dual-port aggregation is commonly used in data centers and enterprise networks where high bandwidth and reliability are required. It allows for increased throughput and load balancing across multiple connections, improving overall network performance. To implement dual-port aggregation, both the network switch and the connected devices must support the IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) or a similar protocol. LACP enables the negotiation and configuration of link aggregation between devices. Overall, dual-port aggregation provides increased bandwidth and redundancy in computer networks, improving performance and reliability. Additional Features The router also offers the mixed Mesh networking feature for Xiaomi/Redmi Wi-Fi 6 routers, which can handle up to 10 devices. It ensures a seamless, millisecond-level transition between devices. Additionally, the AX3000T has built-in security measures, such as automatic interception of unauthorized internet access and app/website access restrictions. NFC quick connect, IPTV network television and multi-platform gaming acceleration are among its other key offerings. OpenWrt Support Yes, most likely. The device is built upon the MediaTek Filogic 820 platform, just like the Banana Pi R3 embedded router. This platform has proven to have excellent Linux compatibility. Therefore, it is highly probable that this device will be able to support OpenWrt. Price and Availability Xiaomi has proudly announced on Weibo that the pre-orders for the AX3000T have commenced in China, with a tempting price tag of 189 yuan ($26). It is now available for purchase on platforms such as Xiaomi Mall, Xiaomi Youpin, JD.com, Tmall, and Pinduoduo. We anticipate that AliExpress will eventually make it available as well.
