My brain is FULL of TH fic ideas but I've already got 3 WIP and most of them are just "what if"s with no plot so I'll just post them here I guess and maybe some writing god hears me/ reads them and someone else actually uses them.

Here's Nr. 1:

Frerin did in fact NOT die at Azanulbizar but was transported into our modern world, sometime in the second half of the 19th century.

After some adjusting (industrialization is in full force but it's still not as 'bad' as it would be rn) he builds a life, him being a dwarf meaning that he ages extremely slowly compared to us lowly humans so he has to move after a while and again and again.

He lives in the UK, US, France, Germany, Italy, Finland.....

He fights in both world wars depending on where he lives during that time (WW1 on the German side, WW2 on the UK's), other than that he goes to university and works all kinds of jobs like policeman, fireman, soldier, teacher, carpenter,smith, weaver, factory worker, violinist etc etc etc

Around 1900 he meets this fella J R R Tolkien and befriends him, and after a time finds out that his friend is writing books about middle Earth, not only that, but one about his very own brother. Tolkien apparently is a seer of some kind because it's still almost a century until "The Hobbit" would happen (he does the math).

Frerin helps Tolkien with authenticity for his books, because the dude is smart and found out about Frerin after he corrected his Khuzdul one time too many.

Anyhow, after reading what will happen to his family, he becomes a mite bit obsessed with returning to Middle Earth and having ammased quite some wealth and with the help of some friends in high places starts founding various research projects into things like teleportation, multiverse, magic, alchemy, you name it. He also becomes a member of the Freemasons due to his occult knowledge.

In around 80 years there's almost no progress towards Frerin's goal of returning home, he does still have a research company but only a small group of mostly students works on the multiverse hypothesis, the rest does all kinds of stuff, technology, energy, whatever.

He has for the time being settled somewhere in Scandinavia, is a College Professor for Sociology and Political Science and volunteers as a social worker for troubled children.

He is fostering 2 or 3 children himself (ages 6 - 16) and has two grown up adopted children that still live & work with him (they found out about him), a guy & a lass ( both early twenties).

Somehow (don't ask I don't know) the whole household (meaning Frerin, his two young adult children, the foster children, his south American householder, her tiny dog and their personal Butler (more of a live-in family friend by now, think Niles from "The Nanny")) all get sucked into a portal or whatever end get spit out into Middle Earth.

Not at Ered Luin of course, that would be easy, no, but somewhere extremely inconvenient. The Lone lands, the Brown lands, Moria, something along the lines of "we are so fucked".

So now it is a few years (1-3, or the characters have too much time to become Mary-Sues), before the quest to Erebor, and they have to reach Thorin before then and somehow survive a world filled with orcs (and elves!) while juggling a 6 year old, a tiny & barky dog, a cliché Mamacita, a British butler, and Frerin's realisation that he has gotten much too used to modern convenience.

(my weak ass would probably include some romance between one/more than one of the original characters and the canon characters, I'm a sucker for Fili or Kili x OFC and rare pairings like KilixBifur or ThorinxNori and I want Frerin to date an elf or Bard I think.)

.... Does this sound like something you would read/write? I'd maybe try to write this with someone else, alone I don't dare to. What do y'all think?

So I’m writing a fanfic, and due to the fact that it's a very important set piece I have to adapt, I watched Two Heroes a few weeks ago

And after reading fanfic for a good four years straight (and reading manga chapter summaries and reviews) I was fucking whiplashed by the fact that the moment Bakugo opened his mouth I was reminded why fucking hated him again

Like yeah I'm intimately aware of the fact that his personality is steamed sewage (thanks Kaminari) but good fucking Lord, Izuku didn't even beat him in the villain target practice shit (and that's another thing, I forgot how Horikoshi will literally never let Izuku have a dub over Bakugo-*** even though this is Post-Full Cowel and Stain and realistically should have won)* but he immediately fulfills his role as barky pomeranian and curses his general existence.

Thank God he's barely a factor since Melissa takes up most of his possible screentime (should have been a more important character tbh- they should have imported her to the main storyline)**

There's a reason I turn him into a minor antagonist (emphasis on minor, like a recurring mid-boss) in most fics I outline

*If you didn't know, Izuku got 16 sec on what was basically Break the Targets from Super Smash Bros Melee/Brawl, and Bakugo got 15. Todoroki beating them both is more understandable since he nuked the course and cut the knot to say.

**QUIRKLESS INVENTOR COME THE FUCK ON!!!!!! I like Mei-Mei as much as the next guy but dude, missed opportunity- hell they could have been foils.

***Bakugo has literally won all of their fights (except the first which was technically losing the entire game rather than that specific fight so it barely counts) AND All for One has generational beef with him in the newest chapter (he [in]conveniently looks like the Second User who humiliated him with all the stuff he did to oppose him), over Izuku AND All Might the holders of ONE FOR FUCKING ALL THAT ARE DUELING HIM AND TOMURA NOW

Thank fuck I don't have to watch Heroes Rising or World Hero Mission cause he actually IS important in those movies and I would legit follow his Ch 1 advice if I had to watch them

(If you want to know what happens to Bakugo in said fanfic that is currently being written [DAMN YOU EXECUTIVE DYSFUNCTION] basically he gets his finger bitten off when he's five by Maria (the fic’s version of Izuku) who ain't takin his shit and gets expelled from UA after he tries and fails to attack her [AS HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN] and later gets humiliated in several different fights from both heroes and his own villainous allies before getting annihilated and thrown in jail during a way more pressing matter [the training camp going way worse than in canon] as an afterthought)

All of this. It’s odd that Izuku’s not allowed to surpass him in anything. Not grades, not likability, not in combat. Even when Izuku finally gets something Katsuki’s either there to shit on him or surpass him.

i'm also currently recovering from the recent loss of my 16 y/o beagle just last week. had him since i was literally a child and he went with me when i first moved out of my parents house. he was always so noisy and barky, and now he's gone it's the quietness in the house that's so...loud. 😔

My deepest condolences, Anon. Losing a four-legged friend is a unique kind of pain, but it will become more manageable as time passes.

#8. Do you prefer the beginning, middle, or end of a story?

All of it, I suppose? When it comes to writing, I love the sense of accomplishment that comes at the end... but I love the momentum of the middle.... and I love the endless possibilities of the beginning!

#16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? so, 11 lol! some of these are in progress, some of them are outlined, some of them live exclusively in my head for daydreaming.

For honkai magical shenanigans, i keep having a laugh about a scenario where an ancient egyptian amulet turns kaiba into a dog and he's running loose in domino trying to figure out how to undo this, but then... lo and behold... resident dog guy HONDA finds him!! and takes this cranky and barky german shepherd home without realizing that it's kaiba in hapless disguise.

#20. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?

Words would require a more thorough investigation of the google docs, but themes... the will to keep living vs. the self-destructive death drive (my favorite character is Kaiba! my favorite ship is pride!), how emotions contradict each other (love and resentment in equal measure), the subjectivity and specificity of experience (what I feel and understand about this is different from what you feel and understand about this)...

For settings, I like Kaiba's mansion and distant, far-off places, like islands, deserts, other planets, other dimensions, outer space :)

I had to put my dog down today.

We knew it was coming for the a while but it still hurts. She was around 16. She was a rescue so we never knew her exact date of birth.

Her name was Poppy and she was a mix breed with whippet, collie and a little bit of Doberman. Or at least that’s what the vet figured out. There is no Labrador in her despite what everyone thinks. She liked to run around in fast circles.

I want to share some photos and memories with you.

My mum chose her from the shelter because she had big brown eyes and was so quiet but when we brought her home we became known as the house with the barky dog. She was infamous with posties, many newbies being told about her. She didn’t bite. But she loved to bark up at the window as they delivered the post.

Our house is on a corner so the back garden faces one street and the front faces another. The dog would run through the house from the back gate to the front to try and see the people walking past. Children would race her from time to time. Now and then you’d hear someone say Oh Poppy, it’s only us! As they walked by.

She was a nervous dog. Whenever she spent time in the kennels she had to be moved to the quiet area because she would stress too much. She loved the kennels though because she got extra long walks and got to role in mud and dead animals. She would stink for weeks afterwards which meant her nickname became Poopy. A nickname she would always respond too.

She was the nosiest of neighbours watching everyone from the living room window. Obsessed with our neighbours across the street. Anytime one of them opened the front door, her ears would perk. I always wondered what she thought about them.

We didn’t properly train her, she knew a few commands but it was always just the basics. However we did unintentionally train her to tell us when the washing machine or tumble dryer was finished or when a gate had been left open in the garden.

The latter of those skills was a later in life event as when she was young she was quite the escape artist though a dumb one. She was always my idiot dog. She could have easily squeezed through gaps in our gate or jumped it but no. Only if it were left open would she run. And it would be to give herself a walk or have you chase her. It stressed us out that game, she loved it.

One time when my Grandpa was healthy, he had been looking after her and lost her in the woods. He searched for her for three hours before deciding to return to his house, preparing himself for the difficult phone call to my mum to explain what happened. When he got back to his home however, Poppy was waiting, tail wagging sitting on his doorstep. She’d found her way back and apparently was mighty pleased with herself.

A couple of weeks ago, she had escaped. It wasn’t the manic kind from when she was a puppy, it would seem she really had just tried to give herself a walk. She had even started to make her way back to the garden when she spotted me and bolted. I caught her. She hadn’t been as fast as she used to be.

Poppy loved to catch rabbits. We live near farms and so she’d often catch them on walks. Unpleasant for us but she was always pleased with herself. The farmers liked that though. Helped protect their crops.

She wasn’t just my mum and I’s dog. Whilst she hated dogs, bad experiences and too nervy to socialise, she loved humans. My best friend was there the day we got her and would always be around to help and play with her. One time she spent hours trying to train her to sit. The dog would lie down instead. We couldn’t stop laughing. We know she knew how to sit. I can’t help but think the dog just wanted to annoy her.

My dog has seen me through breakups, lost toys, parental divorces, ill grandparents, exam stress, death etc. She didn’t like crying, would walk away whenever I was sad but once I calmed down she’d always sit by me.

She had seen me through the good times too, weddings, new siblings, friendships etc. She especially liked when I had new friends as it was new people to give her food from the table.

Throughout this whole thing I keep dipping in and out of present and past tense because it’s still weird to me she’s gone.

I love her. And it’s so quiet without her.

I miss her so much.

She was an idiot.

She was my idiot.

A/N: Jack Sloane/Reader. Was tempted to make this into a proper length fic but decided against it in the end! I got this request I think the first time I reblogged a prompt list so I’m sorry it took so long, inspiration took a while to hit. I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for the request! :) 

Jack’s fighting between rage and worry as she waits for the elevator to descend. What was it with NCIS agents and their stupid god damn hero complexes? Couldn’t they just do their jobs without putting themselves in more danger?

Usually, it was Gibbs, but this time it was you and Jack’s heart hadn’t stopped pounding since Tim had told her you were getting patched up in autopsy after refusing to go to the hospital (because of course). She didn’t have time to unpack just why her heart felt like it was in her throat and the idea of you being hurt made her sick to her stomach-

The elevator doors open and Jack strides into autopsy, heels clicking loudly against the floor. You're sitting on an autopsy table looking thoroughly bored as you hold an ice pack to your head and Jimmy stitches up the gash on your arm. Your eyes instantly find hers, and her rage must be winning because your face drops.

“I can explain.”

“You better explain!” Her heart is still pounding, but you’re okay, you’re okay. She feels sick. “You willingly went into a room unarmed with a marine you knew was having a psychotic break!”

“Jack-” You drop the ice pack onto the table revealing the lump on your forehead.

“Don’t Jack me. He had a gun! You could have died.”

“But I didn’t, I’m fine.”

She glares at you and turns to look at Jimmy. “What’s the damage?”

Jimmy smiles patiently, used to the barky attitude when one of the team got injured, “Gunshot just grazed her arm. It required a few stitches and she’s probably going to have a nasty headache, but she’s going to be just fine.”

“See.” You smirk, but your smugness instantly fades when Jack glares at you.

“I’ll give you two a few minutes…” Jimmy says, backing away.

The second the autopsy doors close behind him she whacks you sharply on your shoulder, the uninjured side. “You could have been killed!”

“Oww!” You whine. Her face drops, tears ghosting her eyes as her anger begins to subside.

“Why do you all have to be so reckless?” She sniffles, and your eyes soften as you reach for her hand.

“I’m sorry.”

Her tears finally break free, dripping slowly down her cheeks. You spread your legs, pulling her in closer and Jack wraps her arms around your neck, burying her head into your shoulder. Your hand moves to gently stroke through her hair, and she releases a shaky breath as she grips onto you tighter.

“I really am okay.” You whisper into her hair. Jack pulls back and clicks her tongue as her sad eyes flicker over your face, landing on the bump on your forehead.

You wince as her fingers lightly ghost over the bump. “Sorry,” She quickly removes her hand, and goes to step backwards but you tighten your hold on her to keep her close.

“It’s okay.”

Jack forces a smile and pulls out of your grip, “You should go home. I’m sure Stevie’s worried about you.”

And there it was. The topic Jack liked to avoid, your girlfriend. She’d only met the other woman a few times and she was so kind, but every encounter felt like a knife to the heart. You deserved to be happy though, and Jack would never do anything to jeopardize that, no matter what her own feelings might be.

You awkwardly chuckle, “Stevie would probably be disappointed the bullet didn’t hit me somewhere more serious. We broke up a few weeks ago.”

“Y/N... I’m so sorry.” Jack steps forward, she wants to reach out but decides it’s probably best not to. Why Stevie would ever end the chance of being with you she had no idea.

“It’s okay. She didn’t…” You clear your throat, eyes flicking away momentarily, “I ended things. It was my decision.”

“Oh,” She’s surprised. You two seemed so happy.

You clear your throat again, “Yeah. She was amazing, but she just wasn’t the person for me, you know. I love her but just not in the way I should have and she deserved someone to love her just as much as I-“ Your mouth clicks shut and you groan, running a hand over your face.

Jack’s brows skyrocket, “There’s someone else?”

You look anywhere but at her, “Yeah.”

She finds herself moving closer, back to standing between your legs. Her breath stuck in her lungs. “Who?”

Your eyes fall to her lips. Jack’s heart is beating so fast she’s surprised you can’t hear it. “Umm.” You start, eyes flicking back to hers. “The thing is I don’t know if they feel the same way.”

“They’re a fool if they don’t.” She says in a whisper. You’re watching her so closely, obviously searching for something.

“Jack…” You swallow, shaking your head.

“Y/N…” Her heart was still hammering.

You reach out, delicately brushing her cheek with your fingers. Her eyes fall close and she leans into the contact. “It’s you. It was you the whole time. From the moment you walked into my life three years ago, it’s always been you.”

Jack smiles and opens her eyes. Her hand grips your leg, rubbing soft patterns into it as she steps even closer. She sighs as her free hand moves to play with the ends of your hair, “I’m so happy to hear you say that because I really don’t know what I would have done if you’d said someone else’s name. I love you Y/N.”

You gasp, tears filling your eyes. It’s Jack's turn to softly stroke your cheek, as she wipes away one of your tears. “I love you Y/N.” She repeats and then ever so slowly guides you closer to meet her in a gentle kiss.

“But I swear to god, if you ever go into the field unarmed again, I’ll kill you myself.”

You break into laughter, dropping your head to Jack’s shoulder. And she feels all her anger, pain, and worry melt away as she holds onto you.

A little one from family of amphiptere named Barky, a daytime group.

These dragons feed on tree bark and foliage, and they have an appropriate color, which stands out only by a slight overflow on the scales and wings. At night they are “hug" the branches, settling down for the night.

At home, it is best to keep a diet under control and in no case forget about feeding, otherwise you will have a couple of extra holes in the door or you will have to buy new indoor plants.

4 + 4 at 16 weeks

Savannah is 16 weeks now, so it’s time to do another 4 + 4, where I list four things that Savannah does that I like, and four things that I would like my dog to learn / improve on. Here is the tag with all instalments (this is the second) in chronological order.

Four things my dog does that I like: 

1. In an update to the last instalment, where one of my four improvement points was getting Savannah to sleep longer in the morning... SHE SLEEPS LONGER! So long as we don’t make mistakes in our evening routine, she now usually wakes at around 7:15. A delightful improvement.

2. She’s very good with handling exercises: looking at ears, teeth, paws, manhandling her a little etc. The vet also loved how calm and well-behaved she was when she got her 12-week shots and it just made me really proud. 

3. Her Drop It is very very good and keeps improving. Of course there are things that are really valuable to her (goddamn chicken bones that people leave lying around on the street!) that she’s not willing to give up, but she totally understands the principle of the command and when she has a less valuable item (a feather, a piece of paper) and I say Drop It, she often instantly just lets her mouth fall open and spits it out. Let’s just hope she doesn’t game the system and starts picking things up deliberately to exchange them for treats!

4. This isn’t a Thing She Does but she’s just so soft and pretty. I can’t wait to see how she turns out as an adult, as well. Sometimes when we’re out and the wind blows her fur back from her face, it makes her look more adult and it’s like her future face is staring up at me. I think she’s going to be so beautiful when she’s done being puppy-cute.

Four things I would like my dog to learn / improve on: 

1. Unfortunately while the early mornings have improved, she now won’t go to bed at night. We think it’s due to teething, that she’s just uncomfortable and therefore unable to settle, but it’s pretty frustrating, especially because (in true sheltie fashion) she gets super barky about it. Hopefully it will just get better over time - we know she’s got it in her because she used to be much calmer around bedtime!

2. Longer time between potty breaks during the day. We know she can do 8-9 hours during the night, which is great. During the day she occasionally does a 3-hour stretch now, but often still needs to go out every 1.5-2 hours. I’ve been informed that this isn’t unusual for smaller breeds, but I’m really ready for her to build up some duration. I’m worried that she’s now started teething and therefore will take a step back in potty training, rather than forward - but we’ll see. Of course I know she’ll get there eventually!

3. I want to teach her Roll Over, just for fun. It’s a tricky one for her to learn because she doesn’t love lying on her side at the moment, and I want to challenge her a little without making her uncomfortable or forcing it. So I’ve been working on this 1-2 tries at a time, in training sessions surrounded by stuff she already knows and likes to do. I might find she just doesn’t want to learn this trick at all (or not until she’s bigger), and in that case I’ll leave it alone.

4. She’s got the beginnings of a Watch Me command (making eye contact) and I want to improve/generalize it further. 

If anyone else also wants to do a 4 + 4 for their dog, I’d love to read it!!

Yeah he's funny but he also needs to be good

I’m not gonna write an essay on the Yandle v Cats front office issue but a lot of people (non-Cats fans on Twitter especially) are getting indignant on his behalf and it’s a bit frustrating from the perspective of a fan who’s been watching him play since he got to the team.

Like read this tweet, I’ll get back to it (shout out to my discord group for pointing it out since I don’t listen to Elliotte Friedman’s podcast)

Keith Yandle is (like many athletes) good at what he does but a truer statement would be - Keith Yandle is as good as the teammates he’s surrounded by, the plays that compliment his strengths, and the effort he puts in.

I’m not going into the changes in front office/coaches but in re: Yands, the acquisition of Bob and the departure of Daddy and Hoffman really exposed his weakness.

As the PP QB, Yandle is money for a goal. But when it comes to five on five and defending his own end (because you know, he’s a defenseman) he is inconsistent bordering on irresponsible.

So if you had been going to Cats home games from 2014-15 onward, you probably would see me in the 300s, and ever since we got Yands (16-17) you’d hear a faint “fucking Yandle” every time he’d miss a pass, turn over the puck, fail to finish (or even start) a check, or skate lackadaisically. And let’s be frank, unless you’re there watching it, following his movements specifically, a lot of this does not make it on stat sheets. (Clarification: watching the games on tv you also miss some of this because the camera follows the puck and the announcers are cowards who don’t critique the players)

So circle back to the tweet. If I can see it as a fan, bet money his teammates can see it too and it must be frustrating. Especially on the Cats, considering the core (R.I.P. Troch, enjoy the Canes) has been at this for a while and in spite of the changes around them, they always prided themselves in their effort. They weren’t always good but they tried their best. Barky is a beast and Huby/Troch/Ekblad followed where he led. And for a time Yands did too. He became so integral that the A’s expanded from 2 to 4. Huby, Troch, Ekky, and Yands split it, two A’s at home, two A’s on the road.

But the 19-20 season, Qs changes, and Bobs playing style really laid bare the incompatibilities.

Qs high expectations of his D corp didn’t help. Yand's lackluster performance in the bubble didn’t help. The new GM who knew what kind of D Bob needs to succeed didn’t help.

But in spite of this, they went to bat for him to get him in the game. Why? Because they're loyal and know what he's capable of, because he’s core, and a leader, and you (aka Barky) don't give up on that. Yands always has been a leader (legit think he would’ve been captain had he stayed in Arizona and if OEL wasn’t so good) and I think that’s why he was hurt when he was called out.

But I watched him play on Sunday (of course the tv didn’t stay on him enough to see the full picture) and while he made some mistakes (turnovers and a penalty that lead to a goal), this is the hardest I’ve seen him skate in a while (and I’ve been watching since 2016).

Really hope he keeps it up, I wanna keep yelling “Fucking Yandle”, it’s really cathartic.
