aubergine (n.)
"fruit of the eggplant" (Solanum esculentum), 1775, from French aubergine, from Catalan alberginera (showing typical change of al- to au- in French), from Arabic al-badinjan "the eggplant" (source also of Spanish alberengena, 15c.), from Persian badin-gan, from Sanskrit vatigagama, meaning "the plant that cures the wind". The plant, native to Southeast Asia, was unknown to the ancients and introduced to the Mediterranean by the Arabs.

When you want to talk about the AUs, but it would be too spoilery for your liking. :c
On the bright side though, I’m finally well enough to write again. Hoping the temperature continues to drop. I miss the days when summers were 15C at most. The fact they’re 40 now fucking sucks.
But also, if you have five person polycule references, that would be great. Searching on google gives me only three ppl at most, or stuff that isn’t even polycule related. I swear to god google images isn’t what it used to be. I even use a script to remove all the AI art sites, and it’s still questionable.

[ID: Several small, triangular samosas piled on a plate. Their skins are studded with small brown seeds. Two of the samosas are cut open to show their deep brown filling. End ID.]
Samusa / စမူဆာ (Burmese samosas)
Burmese samusa are smaller than Indian samosas, and their fillings tend to have a different spice profile. This recipe for potato samusa features a filling flavored with turmeric and black mustard seed and made richly sweet with the addition of jaggery—a tamarind dipping sauce adds tartness, saltiness, and umami. Leftover samusa are also excellent in samusa thouk—a brightly savory soup commonly made with split chickpeas and tamarind.
Recipe under the cut!
Patreon | Tip jar
Makes 8.
INGREDIENTS:
For the dough:
1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
About 2 Tbsp water
For the filling:
1 1/3 cup minced potato (1 large, 160g)--or boiled and mashed
1/2 small yellow onion, minced (2 Tbsp)
1 large jalapeño, minced (2 Tbsp)
15 mint leaves, minced
2 1/2 tsp turmeric
2 tsp ground Kashmiri chili (mirchi), or to taste*
2-4 tsp jaggery or brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp carom seeds (ajwain), toasted and ground
3/4 tsp brown mustard seeds (rai), toasted and ground
1 tsp cornstarch (optional)**
2 Tbsp neutral oil
*Mirchi consists of dried ground red chili peppers and is different from chili powder, which contains additional spices. If you don't have any, you may use another type of ground red chiil (prik bon, gochugaru, cayenne pepper) or grind dried red chilis yourself in a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
**The cornstarch helps the filling stay compact and non-soggy. I have, however, omitted it before without anything terrible happening.
For the dipping sauce:
2 Tbsp tamarind paste*
1 Tbsp vegan fish sauce (such as Au Lac)**
1 Tbsp soy sauce
1 Tbsp jaggery or brown sugar
1/2" chunk (5g) ginger, grated
2 cloves garlic, grated
3-4 Thai bird's eye chili peppers, minced
*You may also use tamarind pulp, soaked in warm water for about 20 minutes and then mashed into a paste.
**Fish sauce tastes fermented and salty, not necessarily like fish. If you don't have a vegetarian fish sauce imitation on hand, you may use any fermented soybean product (fermented bean curd, doenjang, miso paste, light soy sauce) plus 1/4 tsp of salt.
To fry:
Several cups of a neutral oil
INSTRUCTIONS:
For the dough:
1. If measuring by weight, spoon flour gently into a dry measuring cup and then level off. In a small mixing bowl, add all dough ingredients except water and mix until well-combined.
2. Add water 1/2 Tbsp at a time until a smooth, slightly tacky dough forms. It should not crumble or form lines at the edges when formed into a ball and pressed flat.
3. Allow dough to rest for 20 minutes while you prepare the filling.
For the filling:
1. If using whole spices, toast carom and mustard seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for a few minutes until fragrant. Grind using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.

2. Heat 2 Tbsp of a neutral oil on medium in a skillet. Add onion and fry for a few minutes until translucent.
3. Add ground spices (carom seeds, mustard seeds, turmeric, chili) and allow to bloom in the oil for 30 seconds.
4. Add jalapeño and fry for a minute or two.
5. Add minced potato and salt and fry on low until tender. If potatoes are still not tender and seem dry, add a teaspoon of water and cover to steam until they are soft. (If you are using mashed potato, just add it to the pan.)
6. Add mint and jaggery and cook, stirring constantly, until jaggery dissolves. Set aside and stir in cornstarch.
For the dipping sauce:
1. In a small bowl, whisk all ingredients together.
To assemble:
1. Divide your dough into four equal sections (each of mine weighed about 24 grams)--each of these will make four samusa. Divide the filling into eight equal portions. Take one ball and cover the dough that you are not working with.
2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the ball of dough into a circle about 6" (15cm) in width, or about as large as you can make it--the dough should be translucent in places. You can do this by rolling out from the center to the edge, then rotating the rolling pin and repeating the motion, until you have gone all the way around the circle.
The carom seeds may form small holes around themselves as you roll out the dough--this is normal and these will close again as you shape the samusa.
3. Using a sharp knife, cut the dough circle in half. Set one half aside and cover it to avoid drying out. Place one portion of filling in the center of your piece of dough. Optionally, wet the edges of the dough to make sealing easier.

4. Fold one of the triangular sides of your piece of dough (in my pictures, this is the one at the top) over the filling. Repeat on the other side, overlapping the first piece of dough slightly, to cover the filling and create a triangular point on the bottom edge (on the left, in my picture). Press to seal.

5. Fold the still-open edge back over the samusa to seal in the filling completely and create a triangular shape.

If you are inexperienced with rolling out dough, you may not be able to get the dough thin enough to fold over a whole portion of filling--if so, just reduce the amount of filling in each samusa. If you're not confident that your samusa are fully sealed, you may (instead of deep-frying) pan-fry them in 1/2" (1 cm) of neutral oil, turning once, until both sides are golden brown.
To fry:
1. Fill a small pot with a few inches of oil and heat it to 350 °F (175 °C). A piece of bread dropped into the oil should slowly begin to form bubbles--if it browns and floats immediately, your oil is too hot.
2. Using a slotted spoon, gently lower samusa into the oil. Depending on the size of your pot, you may need to do this in batches--try not to cover more than half of the surface area of the oil, to avoid temperature fluctuations.
3. Fry, flipping occasionally, until golden brown on all sides. Set aside on a wire cooling rack or a paper-towel-lined plate.
4. Optionally, to produce very crispy samusa, fry them again at 370 °F (188 °C). If you want to save some of the samusa to eat later, fry them once and freeze; immediately before serving, fry again.
Serve immediately with dipping sauce. Leftover samusa are sometimes eaten with samusa soup.

Parlons Vacances ! (2/4)
L'HIVER.

Just added chapter 125 to the marching band AU. This is the third chapter of part 15. Sunday Night and Monday Morning.
Chapter 1 (from the beginning) - https://archiveofourown.org/works/29409834/chapters/72250422
Chapter 125 (just added; part 15C) - https://archiveofourown.org/works/29409834/chapters/83949505
Title: And I’m in the bleachers
Chapters: 125/?
Words: 506,155 (so far)
Summary: Victor Salazar is finishing his freshman year of high school in Graham, TX when his dad gets a new job that forces the family to move to the small town of Ephrata, PA. Thrilled with the idea of a fresh start and maybe the chance to finally figure himself out, Victor is excited; his younger sister, Pilar, a little less so. Both Salazar siblings join the high school marching band upon arrival and this is the story of the hijinks and drama that unfold thereafter.
In the words of a dear friend: It might just be Victor being an idiot and Benji being more of an idiot but what’s new?
Notes: This story will come to you in 25 parts; however each part will account for multiple chapters, so it’s going to be a lot more than 25 total chapters, but there are 25 main sections of the story. The relocation from Atlanta to PA is because this is now set in my hometown, because I have no clue how HS marching band works in GA. I decided to eliminate a few characters (most notably Adrian and Simon). The move occurs at the beginning of June 2019 instead of January 2020. The first part of the story will loosely follow the plot of Love, Victor Season 1, but definitely not exactly. This may or may not be the slowest burn to ever exist.

Lundi 1 juin 2020 : Psaume 91(90),1-2.14-15ab.15c-16.

Apartment AU 3
To spite the knowledge that he could catch Keith by elevator every day, Lance continued to take the stairs. Keith was way too hot to risk their relationship getting all awkward with him making an ass of himself for three minutes every day with no shots at redemption until the next silent elevator ride. He’d rather see him less often and in larger doses, Lance just had to figure out the right way to like… ask him to spend time together.
Also, he only got to the basketball court like two days a week and he really did feel better if he took the stairs everywhere as an extra effort to keep in shape. Not that he bothered when he actually did get to play, because he wasn’t a complete masochist and playing with Hunk and the guys always wore him down to shreds. Pidge played dirty as hell, yo.
So catch him on the elevator on the way home, still in his basketball shorts and a sweaty gross tank top when he stepped into the lobby to see Keith already waiting for the elevator. And once again, Keith wasn’t facing him yet, so he got to just… stop and admire the sight of Keith’s round little butt in short shorts for a moment before greeting him.
“Oh hey,” Keith said, eyes drawing up and down Lance’s body when he saw him as they stepped inside the elevator. “You uh. Don’t look like you just got home from work.”
“No,” Lance agreed, smiling his most charming smile in hopes that it would detract from how potentially gross he was right now. “I play basketball with my friends a couple times a week, keeps us all busy.”
Keith didn’t seem grossed out at any rate, unless it was the opposite and the reason he kept darting little glances at Lance’s bare arms and licking his lips was out of disgust which seemed… Unlikely. It seemed more likely that this was actually good for Lance…
Neither of them managed to say anything before the elevator once again dinged, third floor doors opening and Lance giving up on thinking of something witty to say with a little sigh.
And then Keith stepped out, and Lance stepped out, and both of them took the same turn to the left. And kept walking down the same hallway. And just as Lance was starting to think what a funny coincidence that was, both of them stopped at their doors at pretty much the exact same time.
Keith looked at Lance’s door, 13C. Lance looked at Keith’s door, 15C. They were literally right next to each other, doors only standing four feet apart.
“Okay,” Keith said with a smile, keys jangling as he unlocked his door. “I’ve lived here three years. If anyone is stalking anyone, it’s officially you.”
“I’ll put that on the court record,” Lance said back, dazed.
Keith laughed, disappearing into his door with a click.
Welp. There was no avoiding running into him now. At least Lance knew where to find him to ask for a date.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of a pair of cruciate ligaments (the other being the posterior cruciate ligament) in the human knee. The two ligaments are also called "cruciform" ligaments, as they are arranged in a crossed formation. In the quadruped stifle joint (analogous to the knee), based on its anatomical position, it is also referred to as the cranial cruciate ligament.[1] The term cruciate translates to cross. This name is fitting because the ACL crosses the posterior cruciate ligament to form an “X”. It is composed of strong, fibrous material and assists in controlling excessive motion. This is done by limiting mobility of the joint. The anterior cruciate ligament is one of the four main ligaments of the knee, providing 85% of the restraining force to anterior tibial displacement at 30 and 90° of knee flexion.[2] The ACL is the most injured ligament of the four located in the knee. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anterior_cruciate_ligament

Meniscus is used to refer to the cartilage of the knee, either to the lateral or medial meniscus. Meniscus (anatomy)
A meniscus is a crescent-shaped fibrocartilaginous anatomical structure that, in contrast to an articular disc, only partly divides a joint cavity.[1] In humans they are present in the knee, wrist, acromioclavicular, sternoclavicular, and temporomandibular joints;[2] in other animals they may be present in other joints.
Generally, the term "meniscus" is used to refer to the cartilage of the knee, either to the lateral or medial meniscus. Both are cartilaginous tissues that provide structural integrity to the knee when it undergoes tension and torsion. The menisci are also known as "semi-lunar" cartilages, referring to their half-moon, crescent shape.
The term "meniscus" is from the Ancient Greek word μηνίσκος (meniskos), meaning "crescent". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meniscus_(anatomy)
